Everything is lecture. He's real laid back and easy going back not to be taken advantage of. Show up, participate and take notes and it's an easy A. Miss a bunch of class and you're in trouble! He never answered my emails not returned phones calls - that's my only issue.
He answered my emails very fast, so i dont know about the not answering emails. But he only had a midterm and final and 4 reading assignments in our class so i am worried about my grade. but he is a very nice guy and if you take his notes you will pass!
I took him for History 2111 and had a great time. There is no required text book for his classes. He assigns reading assignments where you read a few chapters out of a book and have to write a few reviews. All in all, if you show up everyday the class will be a breeze. I recommend a laptop, he is very detailed in his explaination of the material.
True his class is all lecture, but he is a great speaker. Makes class interesting and never gets off topic. Very easy to understand and one actually learns. History has always been my weak subject, but I thoroughly enjoyed his class. He is a great professor.

The Best History Professor! You will be doing a lot of reading. All test are short answer! All you need to do to study. Easy A if you learn the material!
Great proffesor..easy class. One of my favorite proffesors in school
Super easy class. Follow his outlines and add what he says in class. Tests are easy. They have short answer, long answer, and one essay answer. As long as you study the outline you should be fine. He is easy to listen to and his voice doesn't make you zone out.
if you attend class regularly and follow his outline you should get a good grade, but not promise for an A. You have to keep track of your grade because he always lost your assignment.
Great professor! One of the best I've had at GGC. He lectures every class, but he is not boring unlike most who just lecture. Take notes (he always gives you a helpful outline) and attend regularly... if you want to slack, then don't take him. I really hope I can take a higher level history class with him some day. A+ Professor :)
His lecture is very easy to understand and very helpful professor. Very good.
he doesnt believe in midterms or finals, he gives a total of like 3 tests with short, long, and essay questions, but you get to pick 3 out of 6 or 10 out of 20 to answer and you can answer more and he takes whats right. his outlines help and he doesnt use a text book so study the outline. hes super chill and on the 2 papers is very helpful.
Tests are easy as long as you attend class and follow the outline he gives. No mid terms or finals. Very informative and answers any questions you have.
Dr. Cook is awesome! Even though he lectures, he is absolutely hilarious! We had three tests, only one of which waas somewhat cumulative. He takes attendance, but I don't believe it affects your grade. He is very helpful and there were only 5 or 6 assignments the whole semester (he lets you know the due dates plenty in advance).
I love him! He made such a boring subject so interesting. Tests are easy if you study the outline he tells you to print out and of course pay attention in class.
I love Mr. Cook. he is an awesome professor and he makes things fun!
I hate, hate any subject that is related to history! but Mr. Cook made it easy and interesting for me! I love Mr. Cook! he is so laid back and cool! you get the grade that you work for. He helps you but only if you help yourself too. His test are pretty easy if you study the guidelines and you have to read articles and respond to his free responses
Loved this class!
He was a awesome teacher made a easy A
Absolutely loved Professor Cook for two semesters, and I feel privileged to have gained so much from him. He is very organized, always helpful, uses lots of visuals, makes jokes, and walks around a lot. All that will keep you alert and interested, instead of become bored during lecture. One of GGC?s best; I can?t say enough good things about him!
Dr. Cook is awesome. I had him for the summer session and he was amazing. You really don't ever use your textbooks unless you choose to, and tests are pretty easy ( follow the outline). Overall great! Plenty of reading assignments, but 1 page free response. Not a hard grader and really funny!
Loved Professor Cook, He walks alot and makes plenty of jokes, Keeping you very alert. He makes it interesting, I like him,
Dr Cook is awesome! His tests are pretty hard but he will help you whenever you need it! Awesome guy
History is not my strong subject at all. However, I managed to make an A in his class. I did not study at all and the lowest grade that I got on any of his tests was a 94. If you show up to class, take notes and pay close attention, there is no way that you can't get an A. His test material comes completely from lectures. I didnt open the book once
Dr. Cook is absolutely amazing! He is so kind and very knowledgeable. He is very easy to understand and he is actually a joy to listen to. He really knows what he is talking about and talks so casually that you almost feel like you are having a conversation rather then a lecture. AMAZING TEACHER!!! HIGH RECOMMEND! I wish I could take another class!
Cook was amazing. I got an A in the class without difficulty. If you take notes in class and study them, you will make A's on the tests. Everything is straight from the notes. We had three mini papers and a term paper but none were difficult. Pay attention & put in a little bit of effort and you will make an A!
pretty easy A, a couple small essays, a couple tests, no final. he goes over everything you need to know on the tests in class
Dr. Cook is a good professor. His lectures were very engaging and kept the class entertained. We had three tests and no final. We had three mini essays over assigned reading and one big essay.
Great guy. By far, one of the best survey classes I have taken. Readings were much, but well worth it since they were interesting. Recommend him for anyone who desires a better background in U.S. History. Tests are multiple choice and essay, so attendance is a must. Also, no cumulative final - just a five page essay. Not bad! Great guy, work hard!
Literally the most interesting teacher I have had. I am not that smart but I understood his class and was interested. I recommend his class to everyone
Dr. Cook has a lecture style of teaching. He is very thorough and in depth about the subject at hand. I found the tests to be a little channeling, but if you pay attention and read the book you should do just fine. I thoroughly enjoyed his class and would recommend him.
Dr. Cook is amazing! He is passionate and knows what he is talking about. He's funny and witty, and he knows a bunch of cool history facts. He is Strictly lecture, and says you need the book, but I got an A without it. Just GO TO CLASS and you'll be fine. 90% of the tests are from lecture
Professor Cook was hilarious and super helpful throughout the semester. You definitely need to keep up with the readings and follow what the timelines are. But if you pay attention, his class is really easy. The fact that his lectures are hilarious help in you wanting to go to class.
Professor Cook always have great lectures for each chapter in the book. I would recommend following his reading assignments from the syllabus and read before going into class. He always respond within the time frame if you have questions. 5 short response essays, 3 are mandatory, 3 tests, and one 5 page essay as a final, and 2 or 3 short quizzes.
I used to not like History , in fact I hated it until I took his class. You have to work to get a A. You earn an A in his class. I didn't mind having a B in his class because I had a good time in his class , and I learned a lot about history. He talks a lot so you have to filter what he will put on his tests.
This professor is learned in his subject and does not hesitate to give you a blast through the past in terms of history, or prove you wrong. He really makes it interesting. The only drawback is the amount of time it takes to get feedback on assignments. Another thing is the fact that grades are based on reading. SO READ! and guaranteed you'll pass.
He is a great teacher. Though he seems to digress at times, going into a certain topic in depth. One must take notes if they are bad in history. There was several reading papers but one only needed to do so many. So if you're busy you can skip. Problem: the readings get longer with each passing one. He is worth taking. I will try to get him for2112
He is a really good teacher. While our class was dull and does not talk, he kept the room alive, and could talk for hours. He would have random dry humor puns that would perk the room up a bit. Very simple class. 3 tests that have questions word for word from 3 different quizzes per test. 3 response papers from readings, and 1 long essay.
I would not advise anyone to take him. He is dry and boring. History shouldn't be boring. What he talks about in class is never what is on the test. We had no quizzes, just lectures and then the tests. Handed in papers in Sept that were not graded until finals. His grades seemed random and his syllabus was wrong over and over. Papers were very easy
Dr. Cook is a great professor. You have online quizzes and three tests that are verbatim what are on the quizzes. One final essay that takes place of the final exam and one 5-6 minute presentation. He's very informative and easy to talk to.
Took Prof. Cook twice, both for history. He is an amazing teacher. I would deff recommend him to anyone who loves/hates history. He's hilarious and makes jokes to keep the class alert. I've taken him in a morning class as well as an evening class. Never a dull moment. Test are straight forward and come from the online quizzes he assigns. TAKE HIM!
Dr. Cook is such a great professor, and I'm usually the one dreading history courses. It helped that he was funny, but the way he lectured actually kept me interested. There's a good bit of writing, but the prompts are generally interesting and fun to discuss. I plan on trying to get him for another history class somewhere down the road.
Great Professor! There was a few writings and gave a few challenges while writing them but it was not difficult. It rather made it fun. All quizzes were online and test came straight from quizzes. Word for word. Very easy class and would recommend to anyone.
This class is really easy, the only way to fail is if you miss more than 3 days. I don't use the textbook because we get to study the quizzes for the exam which is the same questions on both. There's 3 test essays,4 response essays,1 finals essay, instead of a final exam, and 1 presentation on desired topic. The class is easy and amazing!recommended!
Amazing, energetic, hilarious, knowledgeable, friendly. He is lecture heavy, but every lecture is worth the time because they are fun and informative. He often connects the present with the past to help you understand. Tests are easy & they come from the online quizzes (word to word). Textbook is not required, but it helps you study. Don't skip.
Prof. Cook is an amazing professor! I have always hated history, but his class is by far my favorite! He is very funny and sarcastic which keeps your attention, and he lectures in in a way that is very easy to understand. There are usually 4 online quizzes before each test and the test is straight from quizzes. Easy A.
This professor is saving my GPA! 3 test (comes from quizzes literally). You do have to write 4 response papers, but their not challenging instead entertaining and fun to write. He grades very lenient! Also, the sooner you present your presentation, He won't deducte that much points compare to the people who present late in the semester. Take him!!
I wish he could be my professor for all my classes
Awesome Class, I cant wait to take Hist 2112
Great Professor. He cared a lot about his students. Grades test essays way too hard. He grades for grammar, which shocked me. Takes a lot of points off if you misspell something or leave a comma out. Weird writing assignments, we had one where you had to do 10 words per sentence. It made the assignment harder than it needed to be. Quizzes online.
Had Dr. Cook over the summer. Fast pace but only because we had 6 weeks to cover stuff. Most work was online, and came out of the textbook and lectures. Follow his instructions or you lose points.
Professor Cook is really reasonable! He doesnt pile on work but he does expect you to be there for his lectures, and give your best efforts on his assignments. Make sure you take in what he says because there are not many words on his powerpoints.
Quizzes online, very easy, check quizlet. The tests are the same as the quizzes. He will assign readings, they are long, difficult and no clear grading criteria on these. Do your best and you'll probably pass. The class is not difficult, just long and boring. Slideshows have no words, he just talks... forever.
Great professor!
Lectures are long his PowerPoints consists of just pictures which I honestly hated but you dont really need to take notes since the quizzes are online and can be found on online. Tests cover exactly what was on the online quizzes 4 writing assignments And writing response in every test and on long final essay and a presentation
He's really funny and nice. As long as you pay attention to your work outside of class (his grading is mainly from quizzes online and a few typed assignments) Then you will get an easy A. Be organized and study for the tests. They're literally word for word.
Great Professor! take him
Super easy class. There's a couple straightfoward written assignments, one presentation, and no final. The tests are the exact same as the quizzes and he provides the answers to the quizzes, and the quizzes are also taken online. (He posts the answers on Friday so wait till then to do the quizzes and you'll pass)
The class is very straightforward. His lectures are interesting and funny. There are 3 exams that are based on the quizzes (word by word). Each exam comes with a take home essay portion (super easy). There are also 4 writing assignments. You only have to do 3. They are based on LONG readings so make sure you dont do them last minute.
He's a very good teacher. The class is set up so you go over powerpoints in class but the powerpoints only have pictures so we only take notes on what he is saying. There are 3 tests where the questions all come from the online quizzes. He is very easy going and makes the class as enjoyable as history can be
Great teacher overall!!!!
He lectures everyday however his tests are copy and paste from his online quizzes. His online quizzes (about 4 per unit) are copy and paste from quiz-lets. Aka you know whats coming. You have to do a SUPER short essay with each unit and one at the end of the semester. Super nice guy and a good sense of humor. Would DEFINITELY recommend.
He's a funny guy. and his tests are based on his quizzes but he dosent specifically what questions to study.. his test are on 4 quizzes so you have to study like 90 questions and there are only 25 questions on the exam...... I just wish he was more specific. but he's a cool guy . he made us write a lot
Extremely funny. Easy. I didn't fancy his class because it's so easy, so I didn't apply myself. I got a B. 3 writing assignments and final is an essay. 3 tests based off quizzes, all on quizlet. Lectures are alright, no powerpoint notes, just pictures. All grades are letter grades in gradebook which I didn't like
Professor Cook is a very good professor. His test is very easy. My only complaint with his class is that I wish he did a review before the test because the lectures are hard to remember. You have to write a lot of essays in this class but he is an easy grader. Overall he's a good professor.
VERY RUDE!
He is a very passionate and caring teacher. The only thing is disliked about the class was the article reviews. Each unit we have to read an article given and summarize it into a 1-2 page paper. The quizzes match the test and he posts the answers for the quizzes to study. You dont really have to attend to pass. Not a bad class.
easy history prof, he gives all tests based off the quiz you just have to read the textbook to have enough information for the essay part of the test if you don't pay attention to the lectures
Easy history class. Unit quizzes on D2l which are the same questions he puts on the tests (use quizlet) . 3 short papers. 1 presentation. The only thing that I didn't like was he lectured with pictures on the powerpoint its hard to keep up with notes, so to do good on the essay portion of the test i highly recommend reading the textbook
His class is very easy. There are a few D2L quizzes for every unit. Quiz answers can be found on Quizlet for almost all the questions. The multiple-choice section of the test is just the quiz questions (which he posts the answers to after they are due). Gives you the essay prompt for the test beforehand also. Very easy A.
Professor Cook Jr was good overall. He gave good information but his voice was super monotone so it was hard to stay awake. I would recommend him test and quiz wise because his quizzes are online and come from quizlet. The test questions are pulled DIRECTLY from the quizzes so you really just need to study the quizzes. Take his class!
Funny, smart, but tough. Felt like I got robbed after putting in some of the best work I can do. Grading criteria was not accurate and it really screwed me over on the early assignments. I lost my 4.0 GPA taking this class so I wont be taking Professor Cook twice.
CLASS WILL MESS YOUR GPA UP BADLY
The best professor I had at GGC, and I am not even interested in history, or, at least, I wasnt before. He has a great sense of humor and makes lectures interesting and easy to comprehend, not to mention that he is always willing to help outside of class. Very organized with his material, clear grading criteria and an easy A if you do the work.
The BEST professor I have ever taken in my life! I would recommend Dr. Cook to anybody. Lectures are not boring and he has a good sense of humor. Very little homework. Class is easy if you pay attention to lectures and take a few notes. I personally did not use the textbook for the course and got a 98%. Keep that in mind!!!
He is very passionate about his teaching, and he is a very generous and funny person. BE AWARE of your attendance or else it will mess up your GPA badly. He doesn't give much homework. MAKE SURE to show up to class, READ all his materials, and WATCH all the videos (He kept track of all of that to give your attendance grade).
Professor Cook is a chill and nice guy. Make sure you go on his web page because there's an attendance grade. The quizzes are super easy and the test are 2 easy writing responses for each unit. The only thing I didn't like were the reading responses in each unit. He also will responded to your emails if you have any questions.
Best professor ever! If I could retake the class I would. His personality makes lectures interesting and you will find yourself laughing a lot. However, attendance is mandatory but if you tell him prior he will excuse. Participation matters, he wants you to interact. Tests are easy.
Great professor but horrible teaching mechanics. Super funny and extremely chill. Test are mild difficulty besides written portions.
Caring and laidback professor. The class was lecture based but never boring. He always made great jokes to make the content more relatable. 2 simple quizzes and 3 exams, no final exam. 3 discussion assignments are due throughout the semester with a book for $30. You will also have to present once. Easy A class, would recommend it!
Great professor, explains everything clearly is always looking for people to ask questions. Really tough grader, a lot of writing (get ready to write essays). Tests are heavy, study well
Dr. Cook is a great guy, lextures are entertaining and his dry humor is funny. Lots of papers but what else can you expect from a 3000 level class. Take notes and keep up with readings and tyou should pass easy. He always offers his help
I don't recommend this class if you're a visual learner. His teaching style is basically Cornell notes. he speaks and you write. if not use outline for each unit it helps. 3 test and about 3 paper. you get to pick when you turn it in. class wasn't hard it just wasn't my strong suit to hear and write. miss class you miss info that he uses on quiz
Overall this isn't a bad professor. He gives you everything you need too be successful throughout this course. I took this course online and you have to complete writing response (pick 1 out of the 2 for each section). discussion post , 1 big project, no final , and about 3 test with 2 parts( 1st part is multiple choice, 2nd part is written).
His class is manageable, but the way he grades is ridiculous. The feedback he gives on writing assignments aren't helpful at all, and are borderline just rude -- he made jokes about my writing. It wasn't constructive criticism at all! Just unprofessional and made me unmotivated with his rhetorical comments! Super unprofessional and not encouraging.
Who hurt you
Mr. Cook is a great teacher. Hes super engaging, I love his teaching style because as soon as you get to class he has all the notes up for the day. His class is defined by his lectures and notes, I think his class was easy and fun. I think attendance is important because he will take off points. He grades grammar on open response assignments.
I took the class online and it was pretty managable, he gives all informatiom needed in the course and if you do the work correctly you'll receive a good grade. As far as questions he'll respond as promptly as possible. Studying is definetly needed for tests and writing responces he gives especially projects.
really funny good teacher class was easy just need to study for tests, lecture heavy too
Professor Cook was amazing! He's very sweet and understanding and puts so much emotion into his lectures. He does yap a lot and gets off track at times but after you get a hang of how he teaches it's super easy. He's awkwardly funny and obviously loves what he teaches. Def 10/10 recommend!
Such an amazing professor, super helpful, insightful lectures. Participation matters and he is overall a great person! Take this class if you can!!
Easy class but Professor Cook's class is very lecture heavy. If you don't know how to take notes from listening by ear, then you WILL fall behind in this class if you don't get the lecture notes. His online resources are lacking so if you miss a day you have to ask around for the notes. Just pay attention and Cook makes the class go by quickly.
