AVOID HIM. His practice exams are (word for word) like his tests except there WILL BE some questions that you must know from studying on your own. Study the practice exams and you'll pass. If you want an A, then you need to learn concepts on your own. His lectures are boring and consist of examples and NOT actual material. Cannot explain anything.
All he does is read off the slides all class long. Sitting & listening someone talk in a monotone voice for an hour and 15 minutes is a snore. His exams feature the same questions on the practice test, but somehow I still manage to get bad grades on them. None of the answers make sense at all. His first year teaching and not good at it.
One of the best professors in ASU, his assignments are good and easy to score 100%. If you want to pass your exam, just take his study guide seriously.
Avoid at all costs. Extremely boring class, no excitement. He never answers a direct question, he's very unsure it seems like. Yes study guide is word for word like the exam EXCEPT he will switch one word around on the test to trick you. His average tests as a class are usually in the low 70's. Horrible class
Although Professor Cox is knowledgeable about Economics, his lectures are very boring and he has confusing examples. Despite the overall boring lectures, the exams weren't too difficult. If you study the study guides, and understand the basic concepts (read the textbook or his lectures), you will do fine. Homework is a 100% (gives you answers)
Had him for Business Statistics, his lectures are boring and his examples are extremely confusing. I read the chapters before hand but every time I went to lecture, he completely confused me. The textbook alone is a better teacher. For exams he doesn't allow any calculators even though its a statistics class!!!! AVOID HIM.
It's a super easy class. If you do the study guide before each exam and have a general understanding of the material it's an easy A. He's very knowledgeable about the subject and give very informative lectures.
This was his first year and so I didn't know much going in. Each class is him reading from slides in a monotone voice and only skims the surface of what he expects you to know. Be ready to teach yourself the topics and memorize the study guide. Avoid if you can.
Short and simple, I will quote Dr Cox after he gave up explaining a question that was raised up in class to him regarding his homework "If I took this class myself". Also calculators are not allowed in exams. Apart from that, he's an ok guy.
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. Explains nothing and doesnt let you use calculators IN STATS?? Horrible. DO NOT TAKE
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. Professor Cox has no clue what he is doing. Does example questions wrong, and asks the students for help. Completely delusional. Going to the class makes things more confusing than they already are. Does not let us use calculators, unlike other statistic classes.
I have a 4.0 GPA and haven't gotten a B in a class since jr. high. And this class was incredibly difficult. I will most likely end up with a B- He does not know his own examples, hardly ever answered student questions but instead just says "it's tricky". His lectures are confusing and don't follow any helpful structure. Avoid at all costs.
Nice guy, I will say that. However, this professor doesn't let you use a calculator on his tests, and is extremely vague in his instructions with homework. He includes questions on the study guides that we have never seen on the homework, and doesn't do any sort of comprehensive review for the exams.
Avoid this class at all costs with Cox. His lectures are long and boring and you'll never get your questions answered. He always answers everything with "Well, I don't know." He has 0 ability to explain what you're supposed to be doing and why, he just assumes you know everything he know. Also, no calculators on the exams; 50% avg test grade.
The professor is a nice guy but lectures are boring due to his tone. He reads off powerpoint the whole time as well. Tests are not easy but also not too difficult. The final is cumulative and the professor didn't give us a study guide nor did we review. I would recommend taking a different teacher.
If you want to just get a easy A and credit just take this class. However if you want to learn somethings really useful I do not encourage you take this class. Cox literally know no thing about teaching, he may be knowledgeable his lecture does not make any sense.
For a business stats class, I would not recommend. He is not aware of the content he is teaching and does not answer questions. His most common response is "I don't know" BIGGEST ISSUE OF ALL: NO CALCULATORS ON EXAMS. Homework and in class work, he expects you to use a calculator. He isn't allowing us to work to our full potential.
Just the worst, his name says it all. His study guides have the wrong answers on the key and he definitely doesn't know the right answers. Tests reflect the study guide somewhat well but get ready to teach yourself the entire course on your own time because you're not going to learn anything helpful from him in his lectures.
The class was super easy if you actually attend lectures, which the majority of the students don't. The study guides are very helpful for the tests, many of the questions from the study guide end up on the actual exam. Homework is easy and you can check answers in order to get 100%.
His lectures are very boring and its impossible to sit through and listen to. His tests are basically copied from the study guides so do those and you'll be fine but be careful because he likes to trick you.
There is 3 course exams(this accounts for 50% of grade, he drops the lowest of the three) and a comp final(worth 35% of your grade). The other 15 is from the one homework assignment a week which is EASY and doesn't take much time. He doesn't take attendance. Test's are as tough as the subject matter. No suprises, in fact VERY similar to practice.
Definitely AVOIDE this pro, teach nothing, never answer questions understandably, and very tough exams!!! No extra credit, no calculator during exams!! WORST I've ever had!!!
This is the first time Cox has taught in 10 years. Needless to say, the semester was pretty much a guinea pig experiment. He's a very passive teacher (a simple yes-no response will not happen). However, he is helpful if you ask for help. I went to every lecture, but the classes just ended up confusing me. Avoid, if possible.
Richard Cox is the worst professor I have ever had. No calculators allowed on the exams, the homework will not prepare you for the exam, his class will not prepare you for the exam. His lectures are disorganized and you're better off watching youtube videos. He curves based on the highest score which is ironic for a stats class. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
I don't really know why everyone on here is hating on Cox. He isn't the most interesting when it comes to teaching but this isn't really that difficult of a class. Exams practically mirror the practice tests, save for a few answers. You definitely need to show up to class to understand the topics. If you do that, it's an easy A.
Cox is not an interesting professor, but he definitely isn't the worst either. He gives the answers to the homework and exams are almost the same as practice tests. Of course it's on you to actually study and know the concepts and by staying on top of this, it's an easy A, as mentioned in another post.
Dr. Cox is a little rusty because he's coming back to teaching from working at a bank. He understands the material, but he has a hard time putting it into the simplest words. If you try to explain a concept the same way he did, he would argue with it. The lectures can get a little long as a result. I recommend finding a different teacher for now.
I took Professor Cox in the fall 2014 semester. He is an absolute idiot. He rambles and repeats himself way too often. If you are not good at taking tests DO NOT take this class. He is incredibly inconsiderate as well. I do not suggest this class for anyone. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Although Professor Cox's lectures may be long and a little boring, the material is not difficult to understand. Homeworks are easy and tests are almost identical to the practice tests. Overall not too difficult.
Do not take this class. He is monotone and literally reads powerpoint slides to you. Class is a waste of time. Homework does not reflect what lectures OR test questions. You can't use a calculator OR formula sheet for any test. Final is also cumulative (again, no calculator or formula sheet - have to memorize about 40 formulas).
Pretty straight forward and made it easy for people who have no knowledge of business (like myself) to understand economics. Tests are easy if you take advantage of the study guide.
He's a good guy, honestly. He cares about upholding the integrity of the traditional classroom. He reminded me a lot of middle school teachers-- always trying to keep the class under control. Once you get over that, you'll see that Cox is a good professor. Yes, his lectures are long, slow and dull, but if you can focus, it's not bad, and is clear
Richard Cox is not very clear and hard to follow his classes are so boring and it feels like it takes hours to get through his homework.
Very very boring lectures. Gets off topic constantly, doesn't respond to emails or offers to go to office hours. Rude. Doesn't care. He shouldn't be a professor at ASU. Period.
Cox was by far one of the worst professors I have ever had in my 3 years at ASU. His class is unclear and sometimes laughs at students when asking questions. He assumes we know the material and gets frustrated when we don't understand. Take it with another professor.
Cox does not care if you do well in his class or not. As WPC students we all have scientific calculators for MAT 210 and 211 which are prerequisites for this class yet he expects us to use a $10 calculator that we would use in middle school. All of the homework is based on excel but then we have to know different equations for the test.
He is absolutely worthless. No ti-84 allowed in a Stat class. He is just incredibly awful at teaching, 0 ability to explain the materials, rush through steps. Ended up I have to hire myself a tutor and barely getting a B in this class. avoid this useless crap.
not help at all, DO NOT take his class if you want higher than C
While you actually need to pay attention and learn the material to pass this class, as long as you memorize the study guides and read over the homework, it's an easy A. Final is optional. Also, Dr. Cox is such a bro and just a funny dude in his the little quips he writes for homework assignments. Very confusing in his teachings, but still cool.
You have to practically beg for help from him and when you do get some its extremely vague
I don't want to say much but here are the result of last 2 exams of the class. (Half of the class failed) Exam 2:The mean and median were both 65%. Exam 3: average was 61% and the median was 62% If you want to fail or bring your GPA down, you are welcome to take him.
Richard has a bad rep, but he is a good guy. The easiest way to succeed in this course is to take notes directly off of the powerpoint slide on Blackboard. Don't really listen to his lectures, he comes off a little shy. If you directly ask him a question or email, he will help you out as long as your making sense. Its stats, and its easy.
Passing this class is comparable but not limited to: 1) Building the great pyramid of giza on your own 2) Reading the dictionary cover to cover in less than a day 3) Traversing the Grand Canyon mid-July with only a liter of water to sustain yourself 4) Deciphering the Harappan language (look it up) 5) Going 162-0 in a regular MLB season
Here's my attempt at an unbiased rating. The class is not as impossible as people make it seem on here. The people who say it is impossible, did not put enough honest effort in. The class requires a lot of effort. If you are willing to try, this class is not hard at all. Figure out how he works. Do well on homework's and quizzes, study groups help!
Avoid at all costs. There are 3 tests and a final, and of those three tests the median and mean score where always in the low 60% range, meaning half the class, even towards the end of the semester, failed the tests. His lectures where unclear & he was constantly corrected by students and contradicted himself.
Stats is hard enough without this guy. Prof Cox was hideous! He watched the class average drop tremendously and didn't even attempt to fix it. He asked me my opinion of why this was happening (because I went to him for extra help) and he didn't think there was any serious problem so he didn't fix it. The practice tests don't help you study at all.
Dr Cox struggles to answer questions clearly. He often repeats "I wish I had another way to teach it." His tests are straightforward from the class and homework assignments. Weekly hw and quizzes must be self-taught. Study groups help. I dreaded the class, but passed well with a B because of his grading method.
AVOID! last 2 exams average scores were 60%, didn't even bother to curve. Material is difficult and his way of teaching doesn't help. Just avoid.
This class, like any class you would take in college, requires studying and hard work to pass. The good news is if you take good notes, do all the homework, and study this class will be an easy 'A'. The practice exams are really helpful and he gives extra credit opportunities almost every class. Calculators are allowed on exams.
not an easy class. Thankfully the first half of the class was a review of things I learned in math 211. You have to show up and follow along w/ lectures to understand anything. 2 attempts on HW but I HATE that we can't see the questions we got wrong. How am I supposed to know which ones to rework? Defeats the purpose of having 2 attempts..
The class isn't as bad as many on here make it sound. You have once a week homework assignments with 4 tests. The homework assignments are manageable and actually help you learn if you know the material. The tests are very similar to the homework. Even gives very very small bonus points for attending certain classes randomly through the semester.
I LOVE RICHARD!! So our original professor got sick on the third day of class and was replaced by Cox. He is so freakin cute! 12 homework assignments, 3 tests, final optional. Go to class and do the homework, and youll get an A. He's so funny and adorable and cute like a puppy!!!! Did i mention hes cute!!! I wish I could take him again!
Richard Cox is a BAD professor. He doesnt know how to teach statistics and is not a nice guy. The class is relatively easy, but his instruction actually makes the content more difficult. I stopped going to class and I actually saw my grade IMPROVE. Thats how bad this professor is. Just take Brian Goegan instead.
Irritatingly long and terribly boring lectures. I didn't learn anything from his teaching and the powerpoints he uses carry no real information. You're pretty much on your own for this class.
I read the older reviews before taking the class and was nervous, but Cox must read his reviews because he fixed most of the negative aspects that were written about him. He let us use our graphing calculators, did his best to explain topics, and over-all is just a nice guy who really loves statistics. Isn't super easy but study and get an A
This class was incredibly boring and the worst one I took all semester. This professor does not help with homework questions at all, basically you are on your own. Tests are fairly easy, I guess on half an exam and got an 80%. He drops your lowest score so the final is optional. He does use Poll Everywhere and assigns outside readings.
He drops the lowest grade, and he gives enough materials for review. He gives formula sheet on exam. He tries to make class easier. Use poll everywhere to count attendance. Very nice teacher! Recommend!
Cox is a nice guy who really tries to make sure everyone understands the material, this can make lectures seem long though when students need to repeatedly see the problems written out. But statistics can get difficult, especially towards the end. He also drops your lowest test score so you don't have to take the final. Homework is due every week.
Gave out homework each week but showing up to class helps a lot. Tests aren't too bad if you do the study packets. Very boring class though.
Went to class 4 times total excluding test days. Class is so dry that the prof gives your extra credit just for showing up. Chances to make up tests and hw.
As long as you do the homework, you will be fine. He gives you everything you need and more to be successful on the tests: multiple review sessions, study guides, previous exams.
There are homework assignments almost every week that are sometimes vague and confusing. They are much harder than the tests. Lectures are very boring, but not mandatory. However, I did go for the extra credit polls and it was the difference between an A and a B in the class. I learned mostly from helpful SI sessions and class powerpoints provided.
Attendance not mandatory but polleverywhere extra credit questions given every class so those help your grade at the end of the semester. Homework can be irrelevant and exams are very easy. He posts exam reviews and previous exams to study off of so study those and you will get an A on the exams. Didn't open textbook once.
A really good professor! Do not believe his overall rating. It is evident, he may have been a poor professor before, but he has changed his ways. Stats is not an easy subject, so you are most likely not going to like the material, do not blame it on the professor! He is genuine, clear, and he understands the material. His lectures can be dual...
This class was way harder than it had to be, weekly hw assignments were OKAY, tests are OKAY, but very detailed. I am extremely good at math and his teaching style was just a tad boring, hard to follow, hard to remember, which made it hard to go to class and to truly learn the material. It was an OKAY class.
Although this is his first time teaching 410 (which is Applied Regression) he makes no effort to be flexible or correct issues with the material. Homework is all SAS, the review is regression (no SAS) for dummies and the test is extremely challenging. There is no correlation between what is skimmed over in class and the highly detailed tests. Avoid
I hate doing this, but he might be the worst professor at ASU. Stats is an easy subject and this man somehow manages to make it one of the tougher classes you'll take. I hate it when people say that they have a bad teacher because that usually just means the student doesn't put forth an effort. However, is a a really really bad teacher. good luck
The class is 4 tests (lowest score dropped), homework on Fridays, and an opportunity to earn 1 extra credit point every lecture. The lectures are unhelpful as he gets into a lot of material that is not that useful for exam questions. Professor Cox is a bit awkward and frequently snaps at students who talk during his lectures.
This class is so easy. The practice exams make up literally 90% of the exams with different numbers. He also drops the lowest exam and also replaces a mixed exam with the final exam. Learn how to do everything on your calculator and do the practice exams and you could easily get 100% on all the exams. He also has a make up hw assignment.
This class is so easy. The practice exams make up literally 90% of the exams with different numbers. He also drops the lowest exam and also replaces a missed exam with the final exam. Learn how to do everything on your calculator and do the practice exams and you could easily get 100% on all the exams. He also has a make up hw assignment.
worst class ever never do it
Professor Cox is not a good professor, but if you take the time to pay attention to the material and do the practice exams this class is a breeze. The practice exams are exactly like the ones you will see and the homework is manageable. Lectures are super dry, but you get extra credit for attending.
Lectures are completely useless, however Cox gives numerous bonus points so attendance is definitely recommended. While he is not a good teacher, there are plenty of opportunities to earn a passing grade with practice exams that are almost identical to real exams and your lowest test score dropped. Not an easy class, but it's doable.
Cox is an awful professor. He took a picture of some kid who forgot his ID because the guy was whispering in class... His lectures are pointless, besides the bonus points. The practice exams are just like the exams in class, so do those. The final was way harder than the practice final. Nobody I know did good in this class. I would not take him
Everything you need to know is in his slides and on the practice exams that are his old exams from past semesters. He does extra credit every class, and it adds up if you regularly attend. Easy class if you learn how to use your calculator. Homework due every week, with a makeup hw that replaces your lowest, drops lowest exam. Do not talk in class!
Although the professor was not my favorite, I think overall the class was doable. It was difficult, but if you had friends to do the homework with, went a couple of SI sessions, and reviewed the practice tests and got the in class extra credit, you could easily get a B.
I didn't think this class was that bad. Lectures were mad boring; he flips out at people for talking. However, he gives you old exams to practice with. The new exams are basically the same problems but with different numbers. You honestly don't really need to know the material very well. Just know how to solve the practice exams.
While I had difficulty understanding the material in class due to the fact that he is boring & confusing, he provides a lot of materials to succeed. He gives opportunities to bolster your grade, including points just for going to class. While you may have some difficult times, you can do well as long as you take advantage of the materials
Professor Cox's lecture maybe hard sometimes to keep up with because of the materials and his lecturing styles. Final exam is optional so work hard if you do not want to take it. Extra credit if you come and do the poll. There are old exams posted so use them for the current exams. Homeworks are tricky so be careful. Lectures are posted
Cox is very bland and his lectures are so boring, BUT he gives extra credit every time you go to class. He also provides previous tests that are helpful for studying. The HW is difficult and time consuming.
Professor Cox wasn't that bad. He provides previous exams which gives you an idea of what the actual exam will look like. Go to class, because he gives extra credit via poll everywhere. Don't talk while he's talking or you will lose points. Drops your lowest exam and final is optional. You'll do fine if you put in the time.
Okay Dr. Cox is not that bad. Lectures are dry but his practice exams and exam reviews extremely helpful. He posts keys to his homework and practice exams that are similar to the tests If you actually talk to him he's one of the most caring professors and willing to help if you seek it out. Class was not the easiest but he was awilling to help.
Cox's lectures provide literally no factual information about statistics whatsoever. I've been working with students through his class for two years, and they walk out of his lectures knowing nothing whatsoever. His homework includes Excel and concepts not even taught in class, and the same with his exams. It's a wonder he hasn't been fired.
Half of the homework assignments (which by the way haven't been changed in 2+ years) involve using Excel for calculations, when you obviously don't have that for the exams. His first test this semester being completely online, where he said to study old tests, had questions that were not in his lectures or PowerPoints. He does not know how to teach
I learn more about statistics in the hour I spend with a tutor (that I pay for) each week than 3 hours with Cox. If any supervising faculty would sit in and compare his lectures to his tests, it'd be clear. This class makes truly shows that W.P. Carey cares more about people passing than learning. Statistics is the most important part of business.
Lectures are nearly unbearable but you need to go if you want to get the participation points. Tests are difficult but if you do the practice tests and go to the tutoring you will do fine. Homework can take awhile to do.
Cox uses the same questions from old exams just different numbers. Many problems can be solved easily if you own a graphing calculator (alllowed on exams) Gives extra credit via polleverywhere, just make sure your answer is correct (aka look at the people around you). This adds 20+ points to your overall grade. Weekly homework which isn't terrible
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. His tests do not reflect the practice material he gives you. His final is impossible. You have to write test answers exactly in to the thousandth decimal place or the question is marked wrong. And he doesn't round. Take anyone but Cox for stats and save yourself.
Homework was super hard, lectures barely scratched the surface compared to the homework. Tests were easy if the practice exam was studied and homeworks. Would not recommend if you don't like reading the textbook for major support.
Prof Cox seems to forget that coding doesn't come naturally to everyone, esp. when taught off a dim projector. He made the course unnecessarily difficult by giving only half the codes in his powerpoints, so prepare to spend hours searching through SAS forums. And don't ask frivolous questions/suggestions, he will patronize you & get defensive.
Took this class over the summer, it was BRUTAL. He takes attendance every day, & material is covered at a breakneck pace so don't skip class. I didn't buy the textbook, it's expensive & not required. There's an insane amount of HW, it was especially hard since I didn't understand a lot of what we covered in class. Exams are cumulative, he drops one
His lectures are horrible. Not a good teacher at all. Kahoots every class, so plan on attending every class.
His lectures are ridiculously boring. His jokes are also terrible but he thinks they are so funny. In the lectures, he overexplaines everything and make it more confusing. Do not take this teacher unless you wanna fail stats.
I've read some of the review on here before take 410, but only his class fits my schedule. Turns out he is the most caring professor I've ever take with. SAS might be tough at the beginning, if you really care about going to his office hours, he is a really really nice and humble guy, and of course helpful with questions. Would love to take him ag.
While the coursework wasn't too difficult, I ended up teaching myself most of the concepts out of class in order to receive the grade I did. The professor is dry and explains things in statistics-language rather than helping students understand the basic concepts. For an introductory statistics class, less technical language is necessary.
Book is optional. Extra-credit is provided in-class. Homework is divided into two parts with the second part being optional if you got a 75% or higher on the first. He allows one homework-remake and one of the four tests to be dropped, making the final optional. Tests required knowing the application of material. Lecture notes are provided online.
Overall a very dry professor. Lectures are long and half the time not worth it. Main reason to go is for the Kahoot points that boost your grade. Tests are somewhat difficult, but just do the practice exam and study past exams and you'll be fine.
Test are out of 25, miss 3 questions you have a B. Not the most entertaining teacher to most, but I liked him. Easy B, you have to work for an A. Cox deserves at least a 3.1 rating. Great class, Would have gotten an A had I taken the time to study. Started hw 20 minutes before due most nights and only ever took a practice quiz once.
Professor Cox, although a bit dry, was a really nice and helpful man if you spoke to him one on one. The content was definitely tough, but that's stats from anyone. His tests were very straightforward and reflective of the past exams that he uploads. He offers extra credit points, as well.
Cox deserves a better rating. ECN410 was a hard class but he tried to help you understand the material as much as possible. The homework can be hard at times but all the codes are provided for. Also, be sure to go to class so you can get quiz points! I would have most likely gotten a B+ or A- if I had attended every class for attendance/quiz pts.
Does not respect students. Does not explain concepts clearly. Does not give enough time to complete problems in class. Cuts students off when they ask questions. Dont take from him.
Dr. Cox's class is very lecture heavy but that's what you get with a stats class. While his lectures can be long, he tries to come up with interesting examples and does extra credit Kahoots every class. It is obvious that he cares about his students and is always willing to re explain a concept over and over if needed. Would definitely recommend.
Worst professor ever, homework is completely different than what you do in class. Everything is lecture heavy and he sucks at it, plus he punished people who talk!!! Don't take him unless you want to torture yourself.
Awful at teaching concepts. Be prepared to ask your classmates for help because he is not great. Very dry and boring class, not too hard if you study but still a painful class to take. Excel assignments are annoying.
I've emailed him about my concerns about the course, and his response didn't take anything I said into consideration. The HW is like a test (one submission/one chance to do the problem) We have Excel assignments, but he doesn't go over excel enough in class so you're basically on your own. He just seems like he could care less about his students.
DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. I have never once used it. The lectures are extremely boring and dry but it is worth going for the kahoot extra credit. There is one hw assignment every week and you get one attempt. There are 4 test which includes the final and 3 excel assessments. I do not recommend him at all. The class is painful but an A is doable.
Dr. Cox really doesn't deserve that low of a rating, the homework and excel assignments are a challenge but helped with the exams and were useful outside of class. The lectures can be boring at times, but I wouldn't skip them because of extra credit points. If you are struggling go to the SI sessions or the ECN tutoring center.
Dr. Cox's class is not hard if you can put in a few hours a week to teach yourself the material. There are homework assignments due every week which include questions that were not covered in class most times. What I disliked most about the course is that the tests did not match his practice ones at all. He would provide multiple practic
Basically taught myself how to do a lot of the material. Only went to 1 of the 2 classes a week after I was halfway through the semester because I did better by teaching myself. Use all of the practice material because sometimes he uses those same questions but different numbers so its free points. But taught us basic examples & tested on hard ones
I enjoyed Cox's class. I'm retaking ECN221 with him and I honestly prefer him over my previous prof. Stats is hard for most people; I struggled a lot. It requires effort on your end to do well and you have so many resources you can use (SI, practice hw/exams, etc.). Whether you like him or not, you can pass if you put in the work.
Went to every class and still had to teach myself the material. He's rude to students who ask questions, wastes time in class teaching nonessential items yet fails to cover material on homework and tests. His tests are ridiculously confusing and irrelevant compared to what he teaches. His complete lack of competency make him a horrible professor.
Cox is the toughest prof I've had. His lectures are very unclear and hard to pay attention to. Tests and homeworks are very tough. An A is only a 91% and he offers extra credit so it can be done.
one of the worst teachers i've had. even though he is a really nice guy I didnt actually learn anything from him from any of his lectures because he rants about random things. Went to all the review sessions for the test, felt like I understood the material very well and then went to take the test and ended up getting bad grades.
Professor Cox is very passionate about statistics but does not realize that not everyone is. His lectures are very boring and it is hard to pay attention the whole class. Be ready for a lot of homework that he only gives you one attempt for so I recommend doing it and comparing answers with friends before turning it in.
Cox honestly isnt as bad as everyone makes him out to be. Statistics is definitely a tough course if you aren't a fan of working with numbers. I will say his lectures are boring and hard to pay attention to, but he truly wants his students to pass. Make sure to do all the practice homework and tests since you only get one shot at everything.
Professor Cox is alright. Do not get the textbook! Use the lecture notes. I was having a hard time in this class, but the tutoring center helped me out! Do not talk during class, he is not afraid to call you out. The practice exams will help you out and gives out extra credit.
Cox was not an effective teacher but he seemed to want his students to succeed. His practice tests are extremely similar to the test, His homeworks and excel assessments are difficult but can be done at the tutoring centers. GO TO SI sessions, the people there will break down the material and make it much easier to understand.
Cox is a nice guy, but a terrible professor. He seems to have this impression that everyone loves statistics and understands it as well as he does. This is probably why his lectures are brutal and extremely boring. You're going to end up having to teach yourself the material because he does not do a good job during lectures.
Hardest class I have taken so far in college. Lectures are long and boring and doesn't explain stuff very well. Definitely go to office hours or tutoring if you hope to get a good grade. 3 excel assessments (easy) , weekly homework (tough), and 4 exams (3 and then a final). Drops lowest total score of HW, excel, or 3 exams. Final optional.
His bad reviews are not warranted. Those must be from kids who are lazy and want everything handed to them. I got a 98% in the class and you can too. Go to every class, do the hw with tutors, and do the practice exams before each exam. These mirror the test questions just with different numbers. This class was way easier than math 210 or 211.
I took his class which is ECN410 in summer, I think Dr Cox deserve a better ranking. His class is very useful to students, he is trying to let his student understand the lectures. Class and homework are not hard, just ask your questions to him in his office, he is very kind. The example homework and exams are very useful for real exams.
hardest class I've taken thus far in my academic career. Not the nicest guy. If you aren't super well-educated on how to use a TI calculator or excel, you will not pass this class.
This professor is the most dull, engaging man you will ever come across. He tries to sound elaborate and intelligent but rather just confuses the entire class. His lectures have no meaning and he has no emotion. He thinks the entire class loves this material and is horrible at teaching it. Do not take Cox, online would be an easier route.
This guy is a complete square. His lectures are by far the most boring and least engaging out of any class I have taken at ASU. He is completely not understanding about personal issues and offering extensions, quite frankly, he could care less about you. The class itself is somewhat difficult as well which makes it even more frustrating. BOO Cox
1 of the worst profs I've had at ASU. He explains things way more complex than need be. SI's are very helpful and even admit that Cox is terrible. He makes his own homework and doesn't review it afterward. I felt confident going into every exam, and never got anything higher than a 75%. BEWARE COX TOOK 15 PTS FROM ME FOR TALKING IN CLASS!!!!
By far the worst class I have taken at ASU. His lectures are awfully boring, and he even does his own examples incorrectly at least once a class. The tests questions are often based on the very specific examples that he does incorrectly during lectures. This class should not be hard but his poor teaching makes it that way. Stay away if you can
I guess anyone can get a teaching degree if this guy has one. I have never seen a prof. care less for his students than him. In class, he replaces normal words with words out of a thesaurus to give the illusion he is smart, even though the students have to correct his mistakes. ASU needs to do something about this joke of a professor.
PSA: This teacher is absolutely terrible. 1 If you dont show up to class youre screwed. 2 even if you show up to class theres new information on exams. Most dull human being I have ever met. Tries to be funny and make it interesting but just utterly fails. I do not recommend this teacher at ASU. 2 excel assignments, 4 tests, hw every week.
Mr. Cox means well, but he is simply not cut out for teaching. The most boring prof I've ever had and just not a great educator in general. I've never written a review of a professor, but it felt not to warn people of this class. Although the class is very doable, do not take Cox if you have the option.
This is honestly the worst class I have ever had the displeasure of being in. I studied a TON for the tests, but he decides to test us on questions he skimmed over in lecture a month before the exam. When I'm driving to school for this class, I don't buckle my seat belt because I'd rather fly face first through my windshield than attend his class.
I'd rather be blindsided by an NFL linebacker than take this guy's class again. The absolute worst professor at ASU hands down.
I didn't even understand what he was saying in his lectures, didn't seem like a statistic class what so ever. Seems like he doesn't even fully understand what he's teaching. Got offended that people did well on the first exam (instead of proud), so he made every exam after 10x more challenging.
Get ready to teach yourself all of the content because this teacher is a joke. Class averages were 60 on exams and he only gave a 1.5% curve. I would study so much for these exams and was lucky if I managed an 80. Course content does not much up with tests. For the love of christ don't take this professor. Only went to class for the extra credit.
Took MAT211 in the summer and rolled right into this class in the fall, which definitely helped with getting an A the first exam. 2nd and 3rd exam's class average were in the high 60s. The exams had some scenarios that were completely different from the examples we were given in class. Uses big words that the average student wouldn't understand.
Hes the type of teacher that will give you 2 review tests to study off of from previous semesters and than the test has 0 material that transfers over from the review tests. He confuses himself in class, and doesn't curve any tests when the average is a 60%. It seems as if he thinks setting his students up for failure is somehow helping students.
He is the teacher that times every homework assignments. He gives practice problems but doesn't give the answers so you don't know if its right. He's flat out just not a good teacher, hes confusing and contradicting all the time. He gets problems wrong in class so nobody knows whats going on.
This was possibly the worst thing I have ever done. The class did well on test 1 and after he was mad, so then he made sure the class average was 60-65% on the next two test. This class is a living hell. I would rather get hit by a freight train then retake this class.
I had previously taken stats in high school I didnt need to go to class or study to get a decent grade. However, as someone that understood the material, he was awful at teaching it. His teaching and grading philosophies are also terrible. And he purposefully made the tests harder just to see the class average go down. I felt bad for everyone else.
In complete honesty, this man is not that bad of a professor. He knows the material is boring and difficult, so he tries to do as many in-class examples as possible. If you want to succeed in this class do the following: go to class, study, and ask questions. Stats isn't the most exciting topic, so the class is boring. However, he tries his best.
Good person in general, but very poor teacher. Make sure you sign up for the Kahoot and do them all. Don't buy the book, rented it and sent it back still wrapped in the box. He does not teach out of it. Offers previous semesters exams as study guides, but DONT expect them to be what your tests like unless you like a D for a grade.
In complete honesty, all the reviews on here are very harsh. I can say that as someone who did not try at all throughout the semester and put in all my effort at the very last minute. The homework is all busy work but is a solid portion of your grade. Mr. Cox is very respectable and knows the material but you better be ready to copy word for word.
In fact, if you pay enough attention to Dr. Cox's class, you will find this class is really easy. Almost every kinds of questions that appear on the exam, you can find the solution on the lecture. You need to know what kind of question need to use which function on your calculator.
Terribly boring and consistently confuses himself during lectures. Do not recommend.
Terrible teacher. I had to completely teach all the content to my self. I personally have never had such a bad teacher before. He's a good person and knows statistics, but has no idea how to communicate his knowledge to his students. And his lazy, he basically teaches a math course through PowerPoint.
I took this stats class in fall RIGHT after taking MAT211 over summer so I thought the math concepts would still be fresh and I would do fine. BIG nope lol. Cox makes literally no sense when he speaks. So much Cengage homework too! Only passed because SI sessions and tutoring center, and I'm usually such a good student!! :( Avoid at all costs!! :(
Just take the class at a different campus. A terrible professor who does not know what he is doing plenty of times and makes class very, very boring. There is 3 hours of homework due every Saturday with plenty of questions in it that he did not go over class. LUCKILY he posts a study guide for tests that does help, but that's all.
I don't recommend taking this class with this professor. His lectures are so dry and boring that I honestly stopped going to class altogether - which is kind of bad because you do in-class Kahoots to hopefully get some extra credit if you're lucky. Homework is around 50 questions a week, and practice exams are NOT like the real exams.
This professor stinks!I took him last semester for ECN 211 and he wasnt terrible but its like he tried to be worse. He gives you ALOT homework weekly and expects you to understand each thing to a full extent witout realy teaching it in an understandable way! His study guides are 15% of the test (nothing) and he doesnt listen to students needs
A lot of people said they hated him when I asked around, I honestly dont know why. I found his lectures to be a bit useless since I actually read the textbook and I believe thats why I got such a good grade. Others were struggling pretty badly so its not easy for everyone but I read the book before the lecture and wrote notes as I read.
He teaches off of a PowerPoint and does it very poorly. He claims that we will never use a ti-84 calculator in the real world so he does not teach us the shortcuts that can be performed with such. Honestly, he is a nice guy but a very bad professor. God's speed to anyone that takes this as you're gonna need friends in here to pass the class.
He teaches stats off powerpoint, his examples suck, he is the worst stats professor. He seems like a nice person, but has no idea how to teach a math class. I would do the homework and go back to his powerpoints for help, but what he wrote on them NEVER corresponded to the homework. Don't take this class unless you know how to teach yourself.
This class was poorly structured. There is no feedback on weekly assignments (MindTap). Lectures consist of Professor Cox reading the slides back to you and working examples before students comprehend the material. The weekly assignments do a poor job of preparing students for exams, but the exam review does come from the same pool as the exams.
Do not take him, homework heavy, always required different rounding, he never explained contents well
the class is very hard, but you can succeed if you put the work in. he is very hard to listen to because it is so boring
Listen to everyone else's review and do not take him. He gives excel homework and makes a second portion of the test on excel to take which contributes to 25% over your overall grade along with a written. Taught myself everything and homework is due on Saturdays which is unrealistic. Usually I am too lazy to leave reviews but he is so bad I had to.
He teaches a big lecture, but if you make time to go to his office hours he'll remember your name and really help out. Yes, sometimes his questions are hard, but he teaches well (if you can stay awake during class- math is just. agh) and he always supplies extra material if you want to study. Idk why he has so many bad ratings
WORST PROFESSOR EVER taken in my lifetime. Seems he is trying to learn with the class bc he never knew how to do any of it. Endless homework, tests are impossible, and then the million kahoot questions in the last minute of class. Kahoot, tests, and homework all seemed to be completely different. TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU HATE YOURSELF!! Boring guy.
Got my first ever C in this ridiculous class. All of the homework you do teaches you how to do math through excel, but then you are expected to do the same problems by hand on exams. Had to teach myself how to do it on a TI84, when he could have easily done that in his lectures. Glad I passed but had a handful a friends who had to drop or failed.
He is so confusing. I have not been this lost in a class in my entire college experience, he teaches as if we were all Econ majors, giving way too much unnecessary information. I wish he would just get to the point.
This professor isn't as bad as everyone is making him out to be. While this class is difficult you can get a good grade if you pay attention, reach out for help, and take time to study outside of class. There's weekly HW with three attempts and 4 exams (final is optional). He offers extra credit through Kahoot. Super nice and always willing to help
Although attendance isn't required, I would not recommend missing too many of his lectures as the tests are difficult and there is an Excel portion of every test that only he administers. Very impersonal and not willing to accommodate anybody unless in the most extreme situations.
Business statistics is a tough subject, and this teacher does not make it any easier to understand. The SI leaders teach the subject better than him, and that's how I passed the class. When covid hit and the SI sessions weren't held in person, I went from an A+ to a B-. He doesn't have an effective teaching method, and I couldn't learn from him.
Had to take him twice. Got a D and then finally an A, but it was mainly the SI leader who helped me. Cox lectures are dry/boring and confusing. Kahoots in class every day that is "extra credit" but ends up counting toward your grade. If you want to struggle this is the class to take.
Prof isn't the best but if you work REALLY HARD you'll pass! Stats is already a tough subject & his lectures didn't help! Advice: Start HW ahead of time(25 Q's & 3 tries) take the practice exams 3-5 days prior to exam(count towards grade & help), go to class for Kahoot extra credit & go to SI SESSIONS!! Do well & you don't need to take the final
Richard Cox has extensive experience in statistics. Statistics is a lot of practice. You need to know the theory behind probability and how questions can be worded to throw you off. Seriously, do the homework like 2x minimum. I worked really hard and still received a B.
Lectures kinda boring but fully online class is very well thought out. Not super easy but he's always willing to answer questions. Class is easier than I thought compared to all the bad reviews here.
I took him for a summer session and every 3 days we were expected to complete 40 HW questions. We also had to complete 5-7 play posit assignments every 3 days and those were around 10-20 minutes per video which you were not allowed to skip. He also gave our final one day after our 3rd exam, so we had no time to study. Terrible teacher, avoid!!!
I took this class online and it wasn't too hard at all. For the exams you get to use Excel sheets that have both the formulas and preset functions that make it very easy to understand. Professor Cox did twice weekly Zoom meetings as well that cleared up any issue I had. Maybe he's different for in person classes but he was great for this course.
I read the reviews before I signed up. I was kind of dreading taking this course. I signed up for Chegg to help me through this course; it helped me through most of the HW. My suggestion to get a good grade on the exams. Study the practice HW, HW, study exam & zoom. I usually took a good 12 hours to study before an exam. My scores were 97,88,94.
Look elsewhere for help. The business tutoring center is the only reason I passed. Overall I feel the class was poorly structured. I would ask the professor to solve the homework questions in class and he would get stuck and couldnt do it. The home work was not written by the professor. And the exams were different types of problems than the HW.
He provides all the information needed along with extra resources to help with the homework, which allows 5 attempts per question. He is very helpful with answering questions and he explains step by step instructions thoroughly in his lectures. His reviews for the exams are very identical to the actual exams which is very helpful.
One of the easiest classes I have ever taken. He gives you a formula sheet and all you have to do is use Excel to plug things in. He's helpful in the discussion board, tests are exactly like the lectures and homework, he provides practice hw and tests, and does zoom review sessions. I didn't even need to read the book. I studied MAYBE 2-3hrs/week.
Although I had a hard time in this class, I was helped by the extra lectures Prof. Cox did in preparation for all the tests. He is a patient teacher and responded quickly to questions asked on the Discussion board. He was helpful to dumb it down for us who needed it without making us feel that way. Highly recommend this teacher!
The prof is not a bad guy but I don't like how his class is set up. I like his grading system, for example, he drops the 2 lowest homework and lowest exam. Lectures are dry. The homework goes over a lot of (simple) math problems but the exams focus a lot more on cause and effect so don't rely on the homework or review too much. Know your stuff.
His lectures are very monotone and seem to drag on. However he is very knowledgeable and if you can make it through the lecture without falling asleep, you will definitely learn. I believe this is a challenging subject to teach, but he seems to do a good job of it.
I enrolled in his course in the 2020 summer semester. There are 4 exams in his iCourse but can drop the lowest. If you take notes and do the practice exam before the exams, you will get an easy A in his course. Very good professor. I also want to enroll in his ENG306 course in the future.
Dr. Cox does a good job going over most of the class. Too bad, the class isn't built only by him and there are other profs giving lectures. some are very hard to understand. I like that excel is used a lot and you are given a formula sheet for the exams. downside is, you cant use your own note sheet. so if theywrite it diff, good luck. Good Proff.
Dr. Cox was a great teacher, some of the modules covered by the other teachers were harder to follow, but he even offers some of his own videos to assist. Great/prompt feedback, lowest 2 quiz scores are dropped and lowest exam is dropped. Overall good course, definitely need to study and follow along to succeed as it's a fast paced online course.
He has 4 exam, lowest score is dropped. He gives practice exams for each which is very helpful and he goes over each practice exam the weekend before its due. These are very benefical to attend and if you can he does record and sends out to the class. As long as you do the homework and do practice exams you should do good in the class.
Yes, the guy is boring and the lectures are dry. But aside from that, this is about as easy a Stats class as you could possibly take. He walks you step-by-step through each exam. Even if the questions are worded slightly different on the actual exam, you should pass easily if you pay attention and do the practice problems.
Maybe COVID is to blame for this rating but he was very lecture heavy did go through the homework with you but practice packets for the exams were never the same as the exam. So study everything.
Overall it was all right I had to try very hard to get an a but its possible!
Some professors aren't great, but are open to feedback and willing to improve. Richard Cox is not that kind of professor. He makes the material more difficult than it is. He uses a textbook that gives answers that differ from the quizzes and responds "I disagree with the textbook on that." All suggestions are met with "You just need to study more."
Not very fun or interactive for online. Textbook and lectures contain different information and do not compliment each other. Lowest exam/quiz/assgn dropped. Just okay.
Dr. Cox is one of my favorite professors. His lectures are easy to understand. Statistic is hard and it is not his fault, he is willing to help if you ask questions. Put extra work and you will easily get an A. This was much easier class than I expected.
Prof Cox's lectures were very helpful as the textbook is dense and includes more information than you are tested on. Guest lecturers not as helpful and required me to look for answers elsewhere. Stats isn't easy, but I found the professor to be helpful, engaged, and very reasonable. Review sessions for exams very comprehensive.
I have nothing against this professor but he was not helpful when I asked for help. Homework 3 tries worth 20% drops the lowest 2, Exams 75% total of 4 drops one with lowest score, Module Quizzes worth 5% drops the lowest 2. I was close to passing but the issue is that the practice exams not all questions we go over in class or homework be aware!
As an econ major, I had to choose between 4 different econ electives. Dr. Cox is by far the best choice for ECN306. He may be a little boring but the class is easy! 4 exams, lowest dropped, lowest 2 homeworks dropped. TAKE THE PRACTICE EXAM MULTIPLE TIMES, all the exam questions come from the practice ones. It was worth the drive to West campus.
He was a nice guy, but the dude did not know how to run a class. The lectures were extremely boring and confusing. The only way to learn anything is by watching the videos on canvas. Everyone did bad I think the average test score was like a D.
Lots of lectures!!! Professor Cox gives a decent lecture! He's thorough and explains things well. He often uses lectures made by other people that are not helpful at all however. In some of the hardest modules it is not actually him teaching the lectures, but some guy who is absolutely awful at explaining anything and just goes through the motions.
Honestly I have stopped coming to class after realizing that the lectures were not a substitute for the text, however the text was a substitute for the lectures. Very monotoned voices makes you want to go to sleep. The times I do go to class I legitimately wonder how he even qualified to teach at ASU.
Take this class if you want to spend hours on R forums to learn stuff he never taught you. He barely goes over the material but expects you to know it at an advanced level. His wording and grammar is horrible noone can understand him on questions. He also is unresponsive to feedback from students and is uncaring
not helpful at all. will seen zone you if you say something he doesnt agree with when asking for help.
Run from this professor. For the group project, he will grade you as a competition with other classmate's projects rather than how well your group does. only one group can get an A+ on it out of all the students. not sure how this is even allowed
RUN!!! I took this class as an elective after completing ECN 425 and somehow the more advanced class was easier. Cox hardly teaches anything, writes confusing and inconsistent exam questions, and refuses to help students because he "isn't a tutor." We had 2+ hours of homework due every day including weekends and the final is graded on class rank.
I have NEVER had a WORSE professor. Complex and wordy exam questions, final project where only ONE group can get 100, & SURFACE-LEVEL lectures. Refuses to provide help when you ask and when he does, he never directly answers your question. He often tells you to refer to the syllabus, videos (which don't help), or to just look at the question more.
Gives riddles as explanations, not helpful
Terrible teaching
Tells you to 'read the syllabus' when you need help
Terrible professor who goes out of his way to make you fail. Consistently have the wrong answers on homework and quizzes while giving vague response when students ask for help.
Makes lots of errors in his slides and questions and answer keys pls run from him
Find god
Only professor who made a project where only 1 group can get a 100% until there was enough complaints for him to change it. Expects you to know everything off of lecture videos while also passing over important details or not explaining how any of the R code works.
Just bad in every aspect of teaching and grading
A group of us complained to the department that the group project was unfair and submitted course evals. since then, he has retaliated in his attitude towards us. he only responds about once a day now to discussions questions and emails and has been even more unhelpful. he plans to fail us all
convinced this man gets a high off bullying his students
This is a difficult class, but if you follow along with the lectures and take good notes you can get an A. Professor Cox was very responsive and listened to student needs and concerns. He was really willing to adapt to class needs as best he could. Don't take this class if you can't put in the work. It'll eat up a lot of time.
fake news at the guy below. No one has an A in this class except maybe one student who was an outlier on the exams.
Worst class ever. Tests and quizzes can get very confusing because Dr Cox doesn't use commas and makes mistakes constantly. we have had at least one error fixed per homework. He gets mad if you ask for help, and will target students he doesn't like. Also, you can tell that Dr Cox wrote some 5 star reviews for himself because he never uses commas.
when the department head talked to him on changing the rubric for the group project, he made a sneaky second option that was impossible. we have to score higher than him to get credit and he has the real data and we dont. he also has industry experience and teach the class, no way undergrads do better than him. he just hates us and wants us to fail
This class is supposed to be for ppl new to R/coding; however, when explaining, he quickly skims over each line of code and doesn't explain WHY or HOW he used it. Practice exams and hws dont help in preparing for the exam and the project is given on short notice with 0 help. Lectures are hard to sit through and understand. Absolutely do not take.
Absolutely terrible professor. Offers very little help if needed, stopped responding towards the end of the class to students and the material that is so called taught has nothing to do with the exams. RUN RUN RUN
I am surprised this person is even allowed to teach an upper level statistics class considering his averages for ecn221 and ecn212. horrible confusing lectures and an unfair project.
Scam class.Cox is a terrible teacher This course should not exists as a summer class for I feel like much more time is needed to really grasp the information.Hw/ quizzes will take you 2-4 hours min everyday.Exams are very tough nothing like what was covered in hw and quizzes or practice exams. Ruined social life till course is over. RUN FOREST RUN!
Let me just say, the is the worst class I have ever taken with an even worse teacher. He is so rude, doesn't answer questions, and strives to confuse his students. I cant even come to explain how horrible Mr.Cox was as a teacher. Considering his rating I'm shocked he is still allowed to teach this course. This isn't an econ class its coding.
Nice, responds to questions daily. But he definitely overestimates how much undergraduate students understand statistics, coding, and analytics concepts, i.e. it comes intuitively to him from experience and forgets econometrics is like a foreign language to regular econ students. Be warned. Exams are very difficult.
This is a message to all the people thinking about taking a class with this professor. He doesn't know to respond to questions and doesn't help students at all. The worst Econ professor to take at West. (He also does not specialize in stats, but he is the only person teaching the class in-person)
Lets students fill one 3x5 notecard with whatever you want for each exam, though he wasnt the best at explaining things, not much needed to be explained. the pp from the lecture is enough to study and pass. Extra credit for class: attendance and kahoot participation. Will drop the lowest exam (4 total) and 2 home works. Curved if scores were bad.
Exams are almost exactly like practice exams, and you get full pages of paper for the exam. Homework can take forever, but you get multiple attempts. His teaching isn't great and his explanations leave a lot to be desired, but if you look over the slides posted you can figure it out.
not my favorite professor, he does kahoot for every class which is kinda annoying. he's too sensitive and acts like we're still in middle school. definitely choose another professor if you can
ECN221 was not a good class. Lectures are very boring but attendance is not mandatory. I would try taking this class online instead. If you want a perfect grade with this professor you will need to teach yourself some stuff anyways.
He wasn't the greatest professor and his classes were really boring, but it is doable if you put the effort in. Tests make up a majority of your grade and he gives extra credit if you participate in the kahoots.
Dr. Cox is a great professor. He's extremely active on discussion boards, gives good live review sessions, and has great lectures. I would recommend having a good understanding of the basics of R prior to taking this class. If you put in the work, you won't regret taking this class. It is the last class in my degree and by far the most rewarding.
This is my 3rd degree. Deans list last two semseters. Took the class in 6 weeks during summer and I am dropping on the last day. I averaged a high B on HW and Quizzes but failed all the exams. Coding/Programming intensive. Tests are only 10 questions where 2 questions have 15 parts each and worth 70% where part A is needed for parts B-L RUN AWAY!!
Worst professor/teacher I have ever had in my life. Relies on cengage and is a bad teacher
Probably one of the worst professors when measuring what a professor should actually do: teach. Cox uses pre-recorded lectures from other people and grades as if the very survival of the world depends on him failing as many students as possible. Every online Econ major will take this class, and every sane Econ major will realize how terrible he is.
Fire this man lol
His lectures are so boring and there are times in which the class feels awkward when he teaches. Relies too much on the slides (btw the slides in Canvas aren't up to date) the study guides for exams don't help either. The homework is much harder than the quiz, which should be the way around. He does know Econ but he isn't built to be a teacher.
don't take this class. The homeworks are difficult; textbook nor the lecture helps. His tests are very difficult and he drops one exam, however, you need to study more outside of class as he is not helpful at all. When lecturing he randomly gets distracted and the class is very boring and difficult to pay attention.
Very difficult class and you will have to put in the effort to do good. Allowed to bring notes to the exam and the practice exams are close to the actual exam. Just keep taking them until you do consistently good and you will pass the exam with no problem. Daily in-class quizzes and homework can be hard. Drops the lowest grades for all categories.
trash
Can't talk about content in class
Cox seems like a very nice man and he's very communicative with the students however the course has been designed for most of us to fail or drop out, at one point the average on an exam was a 59% and he curved it by 4% so the majority still wasn't passing. Homework takes average grade on attempts instead of best,he offers a formula sheet on exams.
Professor stated that he does not recommend having a job while taking this class. Very hard accelerated online course. Syllabus recommends 24 hours of studying per week. If you fall behind it happens quick. Homework is understanable with notes but lots of hw and quiz. Tests are closed notes, so be sure to know the information prior to the test.
Cox is a nice person but the class itself was extremely difficult, he rounded my grade which was very nice of him, extremely heavily weighted exams, the homework was difficult and took average grades not highest. No extra credit, barely rounded actual exams. The professor was active on discussion boards but most of the class barely passed.
He is a pretty decent professor. He does care about his students, and wants to learn as best you can with as much help as he can give you. He relies heavily on Kahoot to teach his lectures with questions in-between (counts as in class quizzes). Lecture can be a bit boring, and he is a bit socially awkward, so participating can really help him out.
Professor Cox is very accessible and communicative, but the class is extremely challenging. Expect heavy exams, difficult homework, and a steep learning curve, especially with the statistical and coding components. Utilize study aids like unstuckstudy ai to stay on top of the material. Worth taking if you're up for the rigorous workload.
Whichever course this man instructs is a total definition of accurate self-studying.
Class was extremely hard, 3 exams and a massive group project, homework and quizzes took the averages of your grade attempts. No textbook but the coding aspect of the class does get difficult. Closed note honor lock exams, the teacher is a really nice man but he doesn't believe in curving or extra credit and answers your questions vaguely.
He will drop your 2 lowest hw + one lowest quiz + one lowest exam grade. Lecture heavy, but if you understand it, you barely need to read the textbook. Definitely rely on the textbook if you're confused because later concepts will build upon each other. Does Kahoots to check for understanding (counts as a grade), so attendance is very important!
Everyday, he let us do kahoot, the kahoot is crazy with unclear question, even we know the answer, he swab the answer place or position every time to make us lose point if we already know the answer and we trying to press fast to earn the points( the more slow u click the right answer, the less point u get)
Worst professor, this program is already hard and confusing tough to understand adding more, this guy teaching is crazy, every day we have to get in the class to do the Kahoot. Even we know the answer for the next question He set the randomize change the answer order so we can't spam click the answer fast and made us wrong, lose point for that ques
Just horrible at teaching and was wrong more times than right which made it confusing. Did better on the tests when I didn't pay attention to him and taught myself how to do it. Kahoots were awful. Would ask Q before teaching it so we get it wrong. Passive aggression when told he was wrong. Knows excel but can't use calculator or do formula by hand
Mr Cox, a bad teacher, had a terrible experience because he didn't explain things well. Tests are important, he is lecture-heavy, he fr puts me to sleep. After his class, I was diagnosed with clinical depression. I would rather watch paint dry. Save your grade, dont take this class you will wanna end it all.

Lectures made no sense and barely helped. NEVER AGAIN
Grades KAHOOT FOR 12%!!! Lecture slides are different from canvas slides he provides, doesn't give credit for absences, even for family issues or personal problems. Exams are 60%, made extremely hard purposefully. He said "Exams scores get worse as the year goes on." That's not a flex, it means you aren't teaching well. Avoid him.
He is a good overall professor; in-class quizzes every day that count for only 5% of grade (attendance matters). He is very engaging with the material and cares about his student's success. If you are struggling, make sure to go to his office hours. Exams are a majority of your grade, however doing practice tests will make exams easy.
A nice guy who genuinely cares about his students; however, his lectures are extremely boring, and the exams, which account for 60% of the grade. As others have stated, he boasts that the exams become more difficult and students perform worse on them as the course progresses, likely because the practice tests don't adequately prepare you.
ASU doesn't seem to have good econ professors, but tbh Cox isn't that bad. The homework and quizzes are online and fairly simple. My #1 rec is to take notes before you get to class so you can answer the Kahoots better. I got an A- so it's not one of those classes where the professor is so horrible you'll fail. It's just fine.
