Weird/funny/entertaining... Great class!
funny, a bit weird, but very helpful and personable
funny prof, mult choice quizzes, interesting lectures
Very funny, but if you don't want to do a long term paper I would suggest another teacher.
He's a cool guy. He's very understanding. If you need help, he's there. If you study for his quizzes/tests, then you'll be fine. The only downside is his 12 page term paper!!!
he's a really good and entertaining teacher. though i didn't get a good grade he's wonderful!
Very nice man!!I loved taking his class. I hope that one day I can take another class of his.Hes a great teacher. He makes it fun with the things that he says, very funny man.Tests are straight forward, not too hard, you learn a lot and have fun.
Great class to start your day. Never boring. Uses lots of visuals. Multiple choice test. Need to take good notes to do well. Is open for topic on 12 page term paper. GREAT PROFESOR!!!! funny guy too.
He's a cool cat. Funny, enthusiastic and animated (hands just never stop moving!). Assignments are not hard, and gives a reasonable ammount of time for all assignments. DO IT!
He's great...he makes it interesting even though there is a lot to cover! He has a goofy sense of humor that keeps you interested! I'd definately reccomend him!
He's really, really, really awesome! Best class I've had in college so far! His teaching style is perfect, he's funny, smart, and just great. Can't say enough good stuff about this guy--TAKE HIS CLASS!
Prof. Craig is an awesome teacher, who really makes classes not boring. My only gripe is that there is a long term paper, but other than that he is great. I would highly reccomend him to anyone.
Looks like Jack Black. Class is super entertaining. I got a B in the class cause its not an easy A but its a fun class and I would still recomend it for sure.
CRAIG IS AWESOME! He's one of the most energetic and interesting professors in the department, and a great guy to talk to as well. This class entails a long research paper, but Craig is always available to help. Definitely someone worth getting to know.
Although his assignments are hard (think 12-page essays), he is a very good teacher and is the professor that I've learned the most from. His tests make you study but the topics are actually very interesting and his movie clips on the board are really entertaining. Take his class!
Loved this guy. Awesome teacher...smart, experienced and helpful. oh yeah, VERY funny.
Tried a little to hard to be funny and sound young but other than that a great teacher. He covered a lot of material but it didn't feel unbearable. The term paper was a little difficuly but he was willing to talk to people about it.
This guy is rad. He is up on current events and explains topics very well. He makes you want to learn!
Best teacher and class I ever took. A real champ! Take his class, you will love it.
Probably thebest professor I took in the JMC department. Very smart, funny, friendly, helpful. His class is incredibly interesting and, though not too difficult, at least you have to work a little bit. The other JMC profs I took were too damn easy. I highly recommend Prof Craig!!
Craig totally knows what he is talking about and knows how to find all the little things in your article while also providing useful info. If you actually want to learn something about journalism take him and not all the other pitiful teachers in this dept who allow other lame students to turn in term papers instead of teaching them how to write articles
i loved this class. it's not easy, you really have to study and take good notes. he has a 12 page term paper due, but as long as you follow the instructions, you should get a good grade on it. he was a great insructor, i hope to take more classes from him in the future.
I loved this professor and loved the material. 12-15 research paper, but start early and do your research and you'll be fine. Drops your lowest quiz grade. Funny guy, interesting lectures and tries to help you out. Take him! You'll be glad you did!
Very good at teaching. Very clear, and really helps you understand what is being taught. If you show up to class and listen to his interesting lectures you should not have a problem passing
this guy is awesome. the class is challenging, to a certain extent. He made the class interesting so that when you come out of the class, you have valuable knowledge. we had a long term paper, so dont wait until the last minute.
This guy is the best in the journalism dept, not only will he teach you how to write, but you will become a better writer after taking his classes. He's always available for help and is willing to reach out to his students. Everyone should take him!

Very helpful. Exams are not that hard if you study and take notes in class. In-class quizzes really easy and are extra-credit. All in all, a first-time professor who wishes success on all his students and will help them every way he can. Very Passionate about his work. I only wish there were more like him!
Cool teacher, easy, helpful and it would give you a lot of extra credit!!!! 3 exams, homework every week around 10 quizes that sometimes turn into extra credit.
go to class because there are constant quizzes that take from the text book and also lectures. i got a c on the term paper, 12-15 pages, and i usually get a's and b's on essays. BUT i got As on both the midterm and final, so i ended up with an a-. he is interesting and explains cool things having to do with mass communication
Criag is a pretty nice guy who is better than most at describing concepts. Go to class because there are a number of group quizzes but like his exams, their reasonable. Go to his office hours is your remotely confused, he's really good 1 on 1. Definitely one of the best even if it was his first time teaching.
A new guy but brings to class lots of experience from the industry. Very understanding. Wants to see you succeed and does everything he can to help u pass. Will accept late HW until end of semester. Exams are easy and curved. approx 10 quizzes that are like free points. he'll turn some hw and quizzes to extra credit pts. Should def take him!
He is a VERY nice guy. I enjoyed sitting back and listening to his lectures. He gives 4 quizes which are simple if you listen in class and browse the text. Don't try to do the final paper last minute. This wasn't one of those classes i dreaded going to.
HELPFUL, AND MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO PASS
Absolutely fabulous! He made the information presented in class so interesting. If you paced yourself on the reading and listened in class quizzes were easy. Really cares about helping people and gets along with students. Extremely sincere and a professor I hope to have again.
Seems to really enjoy teaching. Overall fairly easy if you do the work. Wants students to succeed. Relies a little too heavily on Power Pt. Recommended.
If you no idea about phys 51..take him...he knows how to teach you the stuff....so far he is one of the good teachers i have had for physics....U also need to put some effort in order to get good grade.
He's very clear and enthusiastic. His powerpoint slides (available online) are a great reference for concepts, and he goes through good example problems on the board. He curves exams very generously, but if you pay attention in class & do the homework, you won't need the curve. If I had time for more physics classes, I'd definitely take 52 from him
Great teacher! I learned so much. This was a great class as an entryway to the Graduate Program. Craig is such an easy going teacher that makes everything more interesting. He is very knowledgeable of modern media and can easily relate to all his students. I'm going to take all of his classes!
He does not teach much in this class. He assigns group projects, and most of class time is spent working on those. He is happy to help if any problems occur. I learned a lot through hands on experience, but little from him.
If u come 2 class & read the book u shld be fine. Don't try 2 over-analyze. When you're writing the report, give your opinion as much as possible & do the bare minimum- no prof wants to read an in-depth, gazillion page paper. I didn't like the class but that's because he didn't expect much from students & wasn't very helpful when I asked 4 advice.
he's awesome! Interesting topics and lectures, he makes a lot of jokes and he's very funny! Attendance is important because the quizzes include details about what he said in class, but they are not hard at all. The term paper should be about 15 pages long, he can help you but he maybe doesn't have time to answer clearly to all the mails.
Craig is a nice guy, but his teaching methods are whack. He constantly goes off on a random tangent all the time. He has 4 quizzes and drops the lowest grade. Midterm is a nightmare. If your answers are not what he's expects, he'll grade you down A LOT. I'm actually thinking about dropping out of this class. Take this class at your own discretion
Prof. Craig is a nice guy. The quizzes, midterm, and final are moderately easy if you study and read the book. He grades the term project pretty hard, so make sure you follow the directions exactly. Classes are interesting if you like the area of mass media and he makes it fun. Make sure you show up for class cause his lectures are on the tests.
Don't bother buying the textbook.Get on his good side by pretending to be interested in his long-winded stories, which take up most of class time.I learned absolutely nothing from this man.Cross your fingers and hope that you get semi-responsible group members.Don't bother going above and beyond. You'll get the same grade as if you do the minimum.
I loved professor Craig! he is very interesting and has a passion for journalism. he seems over qualified for this position. There is one very long term paper but it is interesting and not hard to pull off a good grade. I got an A in the class and was very inspired by him. he makes this class fun!
What a great teacher. He makes lecture interesting and fun. Also, attending lecture is important because it's a big percent of the grade. He remembers when you show up and participate. Overall, its a good class!
Professor Craig is a really nice guy. Very approachable if you need help. Take good notes on lectures and videos and the quizzes and tests will be easy to pass. Follow the directions very carefully for the term paper.
This class is generally feared the most amongst the Physics series. This guy doesn't make it very scary. His tests dont have any surprises and he makes you understand concepts. Nothing really bad about him, id recommend him
Prof. Craig is great with informative and engaging lectures. Make sure to take good notes and read the book because the midterm and final require "fill in the blank" answers. Show up everyday so you get your points for participation and you will succeed in this class!
He is a very intelligent professor with informative lectures. Tests and quizzes are a mixture of both in-class material and textbook readings, so it is beneficial to attend class. There is also a daunting ten page term paper that will require an adequate amount of research. He is a great professor, but his lectures can be boring and repetitive.
Prof. Craig is great with giving energetic, engaging lectures and in my opinion has a great sense of humor. He's extremely helpful if you go to his office hours but his tests are pretty comprehensive and the 10-12 page term paper can be stressful. Definitely need to go to class since what he goes over is always on the exams
Good teacher. TIPS!: most of the questions on his exams are based on what he lectured in class! so take good notes & go to class. the book is just for reference and to get more background knowledge. He does assign a 12 page paper! so do it early do not wait the last minute like i did, easy grader and does curve grade scale for exams.
Great teacher, very energetic and funny. Quizzes aren't so bad, just pay attention in lectures and you'll be fine. Also theres is 10pg research paper but just don't procrastinate and you'll be fine.
He is a cool professor. Quizzes are very easy. Midterm and Term papers are NO JOKE. I was extremely confused by the term paper and will not be surprised if it greatly drops my grade. Class would be great if the term paper was not included.
Teacher is really cool, he makes this class interesting, this semester attendance was required as quiz material was mostly from lecture, only very little was from the book. Do the term paper accurately and you will receive an A
His lectures were so good I would go even when I was dead hung over. Great professor. Go to class everyday and you'll pass. Don't buy the book cause you won't ever use it. There is a 8-10 page report but it's not deathly difficult. I strongly recommend him.
He's a really greta professor! He likes to engage with the students so there are always class discussions but it makes class interesting. He tells you to buy the books but i literally haven't opened one of them one time, so don't do it! but it is important that you go to class, he'll notice if your gone. & all the quizes/tests are online its great!
He cares more for this class than mcom 72, which is great. Attendance is not mandatory, but he will notice if you are gone! He knows everybody by name. This is a great class! They are online and in-class and he is tricky about his questions. Midterm and final are in the same format. Don't buy the books. Paper is important, do your investigating!!!!
Worse professor I've had at SJSU. He only gives one major assignment which is a term paper which he gives no help in and expects to be written at a journalist level. Don't take his class
Great teacher. Don't skip lectures. Generally, he knows who comes and who doesn't - he's a tiny bit more favorable to those who always go to lecture. I started the term paper 2 days before it was due and got an A in it - follow the instructions carefully. pick out your sources a bit earlier though.
Textbook was more of a jumping point for class lectures. Make sure to attend class, as he places more of the lecture material in the 4 quizzes (Top 3 count), midterm, and final. Very generous curve; an 85% is an A-, while an 87% is an A. You also have a Term paper (don't procrastinate on it). Overall, Craig is entertaining and one of the best.
The class was pretty laid back for the most part. Class discussions were very interesting and engaging. He always seemed to have an interesting story to tell us... Midterm and Finals were easy, as long as you showed up to class every day. If he's available to teach this course, then take him!
He is a tough grader when it comes to the paper and tests. Very nitpicky. Tests consists of multiple choice, fill in the blank and short answer. The paper was super tedious (8 pages) and he barely talked about it until right before it was due. 4 quizzes (only top 3 scores count). Gives points for participation, so attendance is mandatory.
Theres not enough characters here to praise Prof. Craig enough. He's one of the few professors that cares about his students and will do what he can to help you pass, as long as you make the effort (obviously). Great, great guy and is highly recommended. The stories he tells are so vivid, its storytelling at its finest. Take him, sit back, enjoy.
I'd have to say Professor Craig is one of my favorite teachers this semester. He is very entertaining in lecture and I would recommend actually going to class. Lectures are extremely important because all of his quizzes and tests are based primarily off of in class material. He has very few assignments (4 quizzes, 1 Midterm, 1 Final, 1 Term-paper).
Even though there might be a lot of content to talk about, he makes the lectures interesting by linking it to real-life situations during class. Also, be in his class everyday since there might be some important details that would benefit you (what to expect on the quizzes).
If every professor at SJSU could be just like Richard, all students would have beaming smiles on their faces. Easily one of the best professors I've had. He knows what he's talking about, is a fair grader, and is very good at communicating what he expects from his students. He's also funny, which made attending a 9am class more bearable.
He gives a lot of what is on tests and quizzes in lectures in class, so just go cuz reading the book sucks. Not much to get graded on, 4 quizzes (drops the lowest one), 2 midterms, 1 final, 1 8-10 page paper. Would really recommend seeing him about your paper, it could really help the score you get. Effort/ attendance is required to do well.
He makes the lectures very interesting and incorporates it with what we are exposed from mass media. If you are planning to take this class, ALWAYS GO TO ALL OF HIS CLASSES. There are things that you want to know since he might put some of lectures from class on the quizzes or giving out IMPORTANT details about the TERM PAPER.
Prof. Craig is a chill professor. The only assignments you'll have are: term paper + midterm + final. I highly recommend you read the entire textbook, it's well written and up to date, which is rad. Follow directions, show up to class, pay attention -- and you'll pass. :-)
There's no homework. Your entire grade is based on quizzes, one midterm, a huge paper, and the final. Craig thinks he is hilarious and knows exactly what the class is thinking.
Richard Craig is one of those professors where he treats his lower division class as an upper division or core class. The class consists of him only lecturing with no support from slides or handouts. I highly suggest not taking him if you heavily rely on homework, powerpoint slides, and handouts. Your grade depends on 4 quizzes, one paper, 2 tests.
Completely lecture style, so if you don't learn the best with that style you may struggle in this course. Your grade is composed of 1 Midterm, 1 8-10 page Term Paper, Quizzes (4 but drops your lowest quiz grade), and the Final. He doesn't use canvas so you may feel in the dark about your grade, but he posts all class material on his website.
He is probably the best professor at SJSU. The class was super chill. That said, he does make you work for your grade. Make sure you read and show up to class because quizzes/midterm/final are based off them. DO NOT PROCASTINATE ON THE MIDTERM PAPER
Almost everything based off of lecture, no slides. He does make lecture super interesting and is super funny. No homework. Take the midterm paper seriously and start ASAP. Go to class and your set for the quizzes.
Dr. Craig is easily one of the best professors I have ever taken a class with. He really cares about the subjects he teaches and he wants all his students to succeed. He is honestly a sweetheart. No homework, 4 quizzes (lowest quiz grade dropped), 2 midterms, a paper, and the final. Take notes and you will do well on all the quizzes and tests.
Prof Craig is a pretty understanding dude when it comes to writing. He gives really good feedback so pay attention to that and you're good
Craig is a decent professor but he relies heavily on his own knowledge. Not really lectured based you just do what he feels. Another negative is he doesn't post your grades to canvas until the end of the semester so its hard for you to know your grade percentage when he never utilizes canvas. My thing is why have us on Canvas but never use it?
super chill guy, class is easy, quizzes are easy as long as you go to class. he says you need the book but I passed with an A without it just by attending class. lecture heavy but they're honestly entertaining. email him during the semester for grade checks if you're worried about it because he doesn't post on canvas!
He's a solid professor don't get me wrong, the class isnt super hard. Personally I just think the class is sometimes hard to keep up with because its only lectures from slides that he literally posts online so class definitely gets extremely boring. He claims his book is mandatory but youll be fine without it. He also doesn't use canvas.
Craig is super chill and his lectures are interesting. Quizzes are easy as long as you read the book and been to the majority of the lectures.
Prof was a pretty chill guy. Classes are just mostly lectures with occasional in-class exercises. Quizzes are relatively easy as long as you look into your notes. If you take his course you won't be relying on Canvas that much because the professor has his own website with many class resources you can look into.
I LOVE HIMMM !!! HE SO NICEEEE AND HE KEEPS THE CLASS FUN AND HE JUST NOT A RUDE only take away is not be able to see ur grade other than that he is the besttt
For JOUR133 it was a straightforward editing class. Craig is a passionate guy with a lot of experience, but it's very old-school newspaper print-based. Interesting assignments, get ready to participate in activities during class. Extra brownie points from him if you're in the Spartan Daily.
Good teacher. Attendance isnt mandatory, but you can probably just look at the slides he posted on his website. Quizzes and tests isnt too hard, just study up on the slides and im sure you will do just fine. He will tell you to buy a book, but it wasnt used 80% of the time and the rental costed me 40$.
