BORING. explains nothing. expects you to know everything. he talks about his problems throughout the whole lecture and not the material, yet your still responsible for the info. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Dr. Curcio is very helpful and explains material well. He also gives a lot of bonus points.
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. Good professor visiting from Kent State. VERY flexible, more interested in hands on learning than exams. Grade is based on 4 projects. You are required to take a cumulative exam if you miss more than one class. Class normally let out early and he gave good guidelines for the projects.
Teacher is very flexible, first semester here, so he was kind of lost sometimes, but overall a good teacher. Don't buy the textbook, all you need is the study guide.
Very fair teacher-truly cares that you learn. Always available for help in office or after class. Lets out early EVERY class. Subject matter is not hard-explains the material in detail..if the class still doesn't get it..he'll go over it again. Attendance is a MUST if you don't want to take the final-you can only miss one class. Don't buy the book!
really nice guy..felt kinda bad for him b/c he's new and didnt really know much about the school or how we go about things here..but is very helpful, easy easy class, no book needed only note taking guide, and gives lots of extra credit on tests
Great Professor, very helpful. I´ve learned a lot through group projects. I didn´t have to take the midterm and the final because I did good on projects!! Awesome professor, awesome person, definately recommend!!!
Don't buy the book. I never even open it since the time i bought it. He don't teach much from the book. The class itself is very easy. Just need a little time for the group project. And the stocktrak thing is very helpful if you enjoy investing. you don't need to take any exam if you come to class. Yup not even final exam.
Very easy professor, but you can still learn a lot. Deviates a good deal from the initial syllabus but you'll be glad that he did. Great class.
VERY easy prof. Attendance is required. Not a very exciting prof. Lots of group projects and presentations.
Attendance is required with quizzes that the answers are given to, but can be made up thru extra credit points. Has built in bonus questions on both tests and quizzes. Easy A.
What can I say...go to class, find a solid group, sit there and learn a lot of good information on the market. Not much else to describe Curcio's class besides him being probably the nicest professor at UCF.
Curcio is the man! His class is super easy, all you have to do is go to class and he will show you how to do the projects (and tell you what to look at for the tests). Even though the class is easy you really learn a lot if you take the time to try and understand what the projects are teaching you.
Easiest finance class I've ever had. Your grade is pretty much just projects. The tests are pretty hard but they're only worth 10% so don't sweat them. He was very helpful with directions for the projects and gave lots of extra credit on the group mutual fund project. If you have to take this class, take it with him !
Is a successful investor that gives insights about markets and teaches fundamentals. Solid guy who sets you up to succeed.
Amazing professor who knows how to keep information clear for tests and understands that students have more than one class to study for. He knows his real estate quite well and will give help any way he can to help you succeed.
This class is so easy. I didn't go to class at all after the second test and still got an A. You don't need the book either. Just print out the end of chapter solutions and the ppt slides and review them for the quizzes. Half of the questions on the quiz are from the end of chapter solutions, and half the test is from the quiz.Project is super easy
this is the worst professor I have ever had in four years, his class reminds me of a cartoon depicting a diploma mill, curcio is a fraud of a teacher - this class is way too easy, if you are a good student take a different class
easy class, but hes a ****. had an 89.8% and he didnt round it up. hes a complete joke dont bother going to class just study the end of chapter questions and youll do fine
Very knowledgeable professor. He is up to date on everything that is happening in the markets. He spends about the first 30 min just updating on what is going on currently. Tests are a little hard. But he gives you detailed outlines. Take him if you want to learn about the markets!
Very informative. He knows his stuff. Class is a waste of time. Tests are ok. StockTrack is easy just get it done and he will give you all points available. There is extra credit. Overall good class.
Dr. Curcio is the best! He knows what is going on, and he is there to help you 100%. He even gave me the number to his home phone so that he could help me before the final! I have never had a professor go the extra mile! So nice and he explains things very well! Definitely take him!
Took him for financial markets and real estate fundamentals. He is very fair. Get to know him, he is really nice. He gives lectures that are slow and boring, but he is really nice and a fair grader. You will get a B if you hardly work. You will get an A if you do all your work which doesnt require too much. Great teacher.
the guy is easy but his methodology is genius (learn by doin) you will learn the easy way(the best way)will not make your life a living hell or waste your time over stupid things. A MOST TAKE!!!!
My favorite teacher at UCF, by far! Almost impossible not to get an A, just review his notes the night before. HUGE curve & extra credit offered. Also great for Real Estate Fundamentals. He is very nice & interesting, always willing to help.
Dont get fooled by those comments. I did n I regreted. If u are someone that wants to learn, I do not think Curcio is the right one. 3 tests 10 chapters each. Does not lecture after the book but test u in what is on the book. A little silly stock assignment that I think is pointless. He does give a curve as long as u write 3 papers. Run.
I agree with the guy that said Curcio is a fraud. He is. Is is pointless going to class. He talks about what is going on on the market and stuffs, but that is it. Does not teach the concepts, theory, graphs. U will have to teach yourself. Good luck memorizing 10 chapters for each test. It is not a typo. TEN CHAPTERS per test.Onty thress tests. RUN
do not take him! he does not teach you anything! wayyy to many chapters on one test! i am an A student and got a C on my first test.! like others said run!
well,10 chapters per test is not bad,cuz he gives handouts so you dont need a book.tests are hard but you can get a c.he goes over current situation on market so you can learn about it that is the point.i am not fin.major and i am not saying this class is easy but you can pass it.he gives extra credits that are 6% of your total grade.WHO does that?
Are you kidding me? No more that 6 chapters on an exam. Where does this 10 stuff come from? Lots of extra credit. I got 105% 100% 90% and 100% on the exams without really studying. The Stock Trak projects were an easy 100%. He did a great job tying it all together. I recommend highly.
Read the book. DO the extra credit 6 extra credit grade points cannot be taken for granted! He's a good nice guy. He'll grade you on completion of StockTrak papers basically easy credit.
Easy class. Don't need to go. Formulas are on the exam. Book helps, but study the notes he gives u and you should be fine. A lot of extra credit. Stock trak is an easy assignment
Easy class, but it would be easier if he actually taught you something. Don't ever go to class, you won't learn anything about the tests. He gives you test reviews, which is all I study along with reading the book. 3 tests with 10 chapters on each one kinda sucks, but he gives a lot of EC. Stock Trak assignment is easy.
Don't buy the book. Study the provided lecture outlines. If you're interested in current events attend class. If not just study the notes and write the 3 extra credit papers for a 6% bonus on your OVERALL grade. Really nice guy, but doesn't teach. I received a 99% in the class. I would say 1/3 of the class receives an A.
Decent class. Was not sure exactly what to study at the beginning since in class he talks about recent news mostly. Study guides are provided which are helpful for exams. A lot of extra credit provided. After initially thinking I would fail the class, I managed to get over a 100.
The exams are extremely hard!13 chapters per exam. I have a 3.4 GPA and this class ruined it. Another garbage class from the UCF college of Business! Advice; switch schools!
Not alot of work. projects are fun and easy as long as you do them. only 2 tests, so there is alot of info to learn, but he gives you a good curve. tests are semi difficult, but i still got an A with very little studying. lectures can be boring.
Only 2 exams with many chapters each. That was the worse part of the class. He knows this industry and it is interesting the hear his opinions. The class is not that difficult as long as you do the assignments and extra credits.
Easy A! He def knows a lot! Book not needed. His Stocktrak is so much fun. If you study his study guides, youre guaranteed an A on exams. He basically tells you whats gonna be on the exam. The class just summarizes everything youve learnt before. So if you are good at finance, you wont have any problems with this professor. Def recommend him!
Very knowledgable and helpful. 2 Projects: very easy, as long as you follow the rubric you will get 100 on both. Tests are not hard but they are on a lot of material. Class is really boring and he's very monotnous (sp?) but he gives good useful current event information. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!
This class is very easy if you pay attention and go to class. As long as you study the powerpoints and the questions in the back of each chapter in the book, you are sure to get an A
Very knowledgeable and approachable. His notes are the focus of his exams so you DON'T need the book - although it is very well written. Familiarize yourself with the powerpoint notes and the terms and formulas in them and you'll get an A. If you need extra help, Curcio makes you feel welcomed. Great prof!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! Doesn't talk about anything that is on the exam. Unless you like taking 2 exams that consist of half of the book for each one I'd advice you to runnnn just like the other posts say. Take the other professor offering this class.
As long as you follow the lectures, do the study guides, and pay attention, you will do just fine.
Talks about current events then reads directly off of the slides. Finishes the lectures for the ENTIRE semester before you even take the 2nd exam (by the time you go to the 2nd exam, it's already been a month since you learned the material and learned 10 more chapters since) Then you have nothing scheduled for a month until you have your final.
Good professor, knows a lot about current events. It is an interesting course easy B with a little effort you can get an A. Lectures are not to fun but you learn a lot. Recommended
Great professor. Class is a little boring since he talks about current events but he knows his stuff. Two projects, if you complete them and follow the instructions you're almost guaranteed a 100% on both. His powerpoints outline the test material but you'll need to read the book to do well. 12-15 extra points on each test! Take this professor!
curcio is the man! best professor ive had at ucf. the other teacher (ann whyte) is terrible. he gives real examples which make it interesting and extra credit and bonus points so its hard not to do well in his class
Ok, if your looking to kill your GPA and all while learning nothing than take this class. Yes, the professor is intelligent. The way he set up the class and that crazy syllabus, just made things more confusing, its as if he could careless if you passed or failed. If you do take this class, be prepared to basically teach yourself.
Clearly understands Financial Markets well, but his method of teaching is rather boring, and he doesn't give much tips for exams. His strict grading scale is a little annoying. But he says he offers a lot of extra credit, which he does. Extra credit on exams, you pretty much have to read the book. His exams are easy to pass, but challenging to ace.
This class is pretty boring - the prof just reads off the PPTs & talks about himself. I never went to lectures; I just read the book, looked at the lecture+ example PPTs, & did those problems a few times. Easy class if you somewhat understand finance & are good at learning on your own. I got an A with the extra credit & StockTrak to boost my grade
Do not take this guy as an elective for REE, all the good ratings come from FIN.. The Quiz and Exams are horrible and he absolutely teaches nothing. You teach yourself. He seems like a nice guy but.. when you get to his quiz and exams.. you will see..
Dr. Curcio is a great professor, unfortunately the material is extremely dry. Like "read one sentence and you're day dreaming already" dry. Pretty easy A if you attend class and study a few hours before the exams. Gives 6 full percentage points of extra credit PLUS each exam and quiz has between 5-15 extra credit points.
Sat through the first class and knew that I would never learn anything from the lectures and never went again. DON'T buy book, first half super easy if you've taken Personal Finance already. Very detailed material, know PPTs before tests. Stocktrak easy if you follow directions. Curves each test by about 10 pts. Failed the final and still got a B.
Easy Class def take this prof! curves each exam 10+ points & gives extra credit assignments. I only went to the 1st class and to drop off assignments. Study guides are long but he fills half of it for you & it is everything you need for the test. I used the book so I say buy it! if you have to take a finance class but hate finance take him!
Curves the tests, gives 8 points overall ex credit. Getting an A is no problem in this class. Tests are a little difficult I got around 80s for them but with the projects and extra credit I got an A. Great teacher and really knows what he's talking about. You learn a lot about current events as well. I took both his REE and FIN classes.
Quite possibly one of the best professors at UCF. He gives out 7% of extra credit and his tests are extremely fair. The stocktrak assignment was very interesting and actually helps you understand the market. His powerpoints are very detailed and getting an A should be no problem. Take this class, it's good for your GPA.
Doctor Curcio is a very fair man. He gave out 7 points of extra credit in the semester and his PowerPoints are all you need to get an A in the class, so don't buy the book. He responds quickly to e-mails and always explains things with crystal clear precision. His passion for unmatched by any professor. If you need financial markets, take Curcio!
Richard Curcio truly cares about his students. His final was one week long. How many other professors would do that for their students? His lectures are extremely clear and everything can be found in his PowerPoints Do the extra credit and you'll cruise to victory!
Very boring teacher. His lectures are the worst even though they are only an hour and a half. Would not recommend.
Just go over his powerpoint and will get A in his exams.
yes its true, the lectures are incredibly boring. the first half of the class he spends talking about current events, and normally i will be the first to say i can't stand that but i learned more from him talking about current events than i learned from watching the news which i also never do. Got an A all because i studied the powerpoints
He's a great professor, I've taken two of his classes. He's very knowledgeable, I learned a lot from him. Study his PowerPoints and you'll do fine. I definitely recommend him!
Dr. Curcio was very knowledgeable and clear in his lectures. He posted very helpful PowerPoint slides of every lecture in case you couldn't make it to class. He was very fair in grading and always offered to stay after class to help if you needed it. He gave clear and fair opportunities for extra credit and provided great insight.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Gives many opportunities so succeed which is rare nowadays! Attendance NOT mandatory! 3 exams, 3 extra credit paper essays, & stocktrak (individual) project! Follow power points and practice problems!
Great Professor and very knowledgeable! Easy course and easy A Recommended professor.
Very interesting, helpful, beneficial, and so understanding and encouraging! You should take this course with him. Awesome experience and fun. Exams are tend to be on the easy side. A*****+
Dr. Curcio is a smart guy when it comes to Real Estate! Quizzes come directly from the EOC Solutions and sometimes the PPT Slides. Exam Qs come directly from your old Quizzes. There were Extra Credit Pts on each Exam. Book not required. Stocktrak assignment which was simple and insightful. 6% on top of your Final grade for writing papers. Got an A!
Curcio is a cool guy. Very smart and knowledgeable. Gives up to 6% extra credit for writing papers on real estate articles. I had to take this class for core hours, didn't put much effort in and ended with just under an A (89). Doesn't give plus or minus grades, which is normally nice, but kind of screwed me. Would take again.
Very nice guy, he gives extra credit which can add up to 6% of your final grade so DO IT. The class is fairly easy as long as you read the book and study the slides at least a couple times before the exams and quizzes. He responds to emails very fast and really wants to help you succeed and enjoy learning.
Had him for Debt and Money. It's an easy class, he gives TONS of extra credit. There are a few projects that can be time consuming, but not difficult. He is a boring lecturer, so I stopped going and still got an A. Also very political in class, but knowledgeable. Fair grader, and cares about students.
I've taken him for 2 classes already and got an A in both. I'm probably the laziest student so believe me when I say he is the easiest professor for these classes. I never went to class, only to hand in 2 projects, which he grades very easy. Read the powerpoints before the test and you're fine. He usually gives like 6 questions free on the tests
AWFUL! I picked this class because of my core shortage and the good reviews. I feel like its a joke when people say it's an easy A. Class material is DRY, hard to retain, and the quizzes/tests require you to self teach yourself from the powerpoint/textbook. Test/Quiz questions are vague. This class messed up my GPA, I'm barely passing with a C.
HE GIVES OUT EXAMPLES IN CLASS AND EXPLAINS CONCEPT WELL
Dr. Curcio is one of the coolest Professors, at UCF. If your a great student and want to go in depth/learn, hes probably forgotten more about finance then others will ever learn. Very approachable and easy to speak to. If your a busy or lazy student, provides extra credit. My only gripe is his lectures show some minor right political bias
Pretty easy class, either go to class or read you don't need to do both. I studied 2 hours before the exams got a 97 in the class. Lectures can get boring but they are pertinent if you wanna work in finance related field. Gives up to 6% of the class grade as extra credit, do it or not should easily get an A
I took Professor Curcio for both capital markets and debt & money, He was the best teacher. The exams are okay as long as you study the power points and practice computational. His test are graded with extra points that boost your percentage up. He does have projects but they are good if you plan to invest in the stock market in the future.
Best professor for debt and money. Extra credit makes it very easy to get an A.
I don't know how this professor got such high ratings. Literally the worst class I've ever taken. 2 people I know have switched majors because of this class. I went to every lecture and all he does is read straight from the powerpoint, more like skimmed most of the powerpoint. Projects are annoying and he doesn't give specific detail. The worst!
FIN 4243, gives you enough extra credit to get an A without even coming to class, builds 12-15 extra credit points into every single exam. First stock trak project can be hard but every project after that is simple. He Also gives up to 40 extra credit points on projects and 3 extra credit papers, very lenient on due dates as well. Worth it.
Professor Curcio wants all of his students to succeed. He gives ample extra credit and the projects he gives are pretty cool. He tries to his best to prepare you for the real world. He's really cool as a person and all of the things he has accomplished is awesome. His lectures can be a bit dry though but worth it to hear about the stories.
I took professor curio for FIN 4243 in the summer and enjoyed his class. The summer class consisted of 2 exams, and 3 fairly easy projects. He offers loads of extra credit (6% for doing 3 short papers) and extra credit on 2 of the 3 projects. His lectures can be boring at times, but he is a great professor non the less.
I am so confused by the rest of these reviews. This class is my HARDEST class by far and I do not even need it. For lectures, he reads exactly from the PowerPoint, no explaining, no context. Even with studying the PP's and attending all the lectures I fail the tests. The test questions are extremely more in depth than the content he gives us.
Curcio is fantastic! This class is a cakewalk due to the amount of extra credit he gives out. Easily a whole letter grade worth of extra credit, maybe even two. He wants you to succeed and learn and all that jazz. His lectures are quite dry, but attendance isn't mandatory so you can just bow out of those and still get an A. Seriously, great guy.
Professor Curcio is the most laid back Professor in the College of Business. If you fail his class, its literally your own fault. He is very kind and understanding. He works with students, even though he doesnt give many assignments. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about Finance. Hes your best bet.
Only 3 homework assignments and the rest of the grade was 3 exams. He gives 6 whole points of extra credit which boost your grade by a whole letter. Don't bother going to class because all he will do is read off his powerpoints that he already has posted. Would take if you're a lazy person and don't care about learning anything lol.
This class is 3 exams all based on lecture powerpoints. There is one project split into two assignments both of which are interesting and not too bad to complete. No homework. Tons of extra credit opportunities (each exam has 15 bonus points built into it). Great professor.
relies too much on powerpoint slides and makes class hard to relate
The most ridiculous professor ever, this is a boring class and he literaly read from powerpoint slides word by word without explaining it. Test and Quizzes are taken in test center, and the questions are much harder than the content he gave us.
If you're looking to get an easy A, take Professor Curcio, just don't expect to learn anything. At the beginning of the semester he cancelled our in-person classes indefinitely and we didn't meet a single time. Don't expect to see any lectures either, he just posts Powerpoint slides and tells you to "read the book".
Professor does not teach. Period. It is nearly impossible to score higher than a D on tests and quizzes which are extremely hard for no reason.
Took the class in 6 weeks over summer. You're able to do well without learning a whole lot, you know what that means. Gave plenty of extra credit, very helpful. StockTrak can be a bit overwhelming at first, but just use his powerpoints as a guide and you'll get it.
I don't know why I have to pay for the course while I have to teach myself the entire time. He doesn't teach and just read off of some sildes.
Professor Curcio is very caring and wants all his students to pass! His tests are based off his powerpoint so I will say textbooks are not required bc the PP summarizes the textbook already. Test was decent! As long as you put in the effort and time it is most definitely doable. He also gives a lot of EC!
Took his class over the summer and had a B the whole time until the final. You do teach yourself as his voiceover slides are a joke about 1 voiceover slide per 50 slides. I did really bad on the final and dropped my grade to a D. I asked if I could do anything as I needed this class to graduate in fall and he said no. So don't accept any help
Took this class online over the summer. Not a hard class but you have to read a lot! His voiceover PowerPoints are the worst, he reads them word for word. If it's not an online class I don't recommend taking him. If its online then do it! Class is not difficult at all. He's just not a good professor.
A very kind professor! Lectures are a bit mundane, but he explains everything in layman's terms. No hw/quizzes. Just 3 exams and 2 "projects". Projects are easy, exams can be tricky. Be aware exams creep up on u, theres a lot of info so dont study last minute. Offers extra credit. Math on exam is exactly like math on powerpoints, just diff numbers.
Long PowerPoints, do not need to take notes of every single slide. Textbook was not necessary. If you enjoy learning on your own and reading off of PowerPoint slides then you can probably get by without attending class.
He has his PowerPoint for each chapter posted and goes over them during class time and studying those PowerPoints alone will get you an A. His grading system isn't totally easy to understand and canvas doesn't give you a number so you have to calculate yourself based on the syllabus to see where you are in the course. Quizzes help prepare for exams
Enjoyable class, professor makes it very clear what to expect. Very long PowerPoints for each module, class is not needed much.
Professor just reads off the PowerPoint in class so you don't have to be there. The slides cover everything on the exam and show work that is exactly the same on the exam. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT, they are a nice boost, and he does two parts of a project which is not hard, DO NOT DO at the last second. Not a stressful class and I would take it again.
Great teacher, inspired me to start investing more. Also very well rounded and has great advice, professors like this are what colleges should consist of. He actually cares about the content and is very knowledgeable about it as well. Great professor and great person!
The best. Both FIN4243 and FIN4504 in the summer are easy. Grades consist of two tests and two projects. You can't fail if you follow instructions, but don't wait to study because it is a lot of material. Tests have 16% built in extra credit EACH, plus you can earn 4% more writing papers if you really need to. Class attendance not needed.
If you're good at memorizing 150 PowerPoint slides then this class is for you. This class is solely based off quizzes/exams and pulls SPECIFIC information from LONG PowerPoints. Class is not needed, as he just reads off the PowerPoint slides. If you need to take an elective class... I recommend not this one. Constantly studying just to barely pass.
Your grade will depend on quizzes and exams, since that is all you are graded on. The quizzes will give you a guide for what is on the exams. He just gives long powerpoints and zero guidance on how to study for exams. You have to use outside resources to help you study.
You can tell that he is trying his best but his lectures are boring and hard to pay attention to so I stopped going to class and read the textbook instead. There's no homework so your grade is only based on quizzes and tests. He does add extra points to the quizzes and tests, which helps a lot. He is very responsive to emails.
Textbook is mandatory, must read everything. If you read the book, then go through his powerpoints and do all of the study guide material youll do fine on the exam. This course took the most of my time out of all my courses this semester and i still got a 88%. His classes are just him going over the powerpoint, kind of useless.
Enjoyed the class overall. PowerPoints are informative, but can get dry. Unstuck ai was a great supplement for study prep alongside the textbook. Exams are manageable if you stay on top of the material. Not a bad class to take.
Pretty easy class as long as you study. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I would recommend going the week before an exam.
This class was easy and manageable. Learned a lot and enjoyed taking it. His powerpoints are long but informative and has pretty much everything you need to pass his quizzes and exams. Attendance isn't mandatory but gives good real life examples of the material. Gives a lot of extra credit. Great and caring professor with a lot of knowledge.
This class was difficult but is manageable if you read his powerpoints. Most of the information on his ppts are on his exams. There's only 3 exams and a project but he offers extra credit. Very knowledgeable professor and gives great advice. Class isn't mandatory.
I loved professor Curcio! He is very knowledgeable and kind. Most classes he would read off the PowerPoint, but it was always good to go before exams to review and ask questions. I truly enjoyed this class because there was no busy work. Just two projects and exams. If you study you will do well. Also, he gives out tons of extra credit!
He is the best professor here at UCF. Although his lectures are long, he finds ways to make what he is teaching tie back to current events. He starts each class with an overview of whats going on in the stock market which is honestly one of my favorite parts of the class. He is EXTREMELY knowledgeable and is great to talk to. 1000/10 professor!!
