This is not an easy class, but Dr. Dalbey is a very accomplished teacher.

All the time talks about Japan and smart Japanese students. He is a very dry person with little patience! The LAR and other papers are time consuming and he will not properly compensate you with a good grade regardless of you efforts!

Keep your LARs and use them for future reference. Pay particular attention to the prof's comments on your LAR. I know it seems like it is a drag - but you will not be sorry! Keep your Gregg Reference Manuel - this is a valuable resource. Practice!

Absolutely the most horrible teacher I have ever had. Boring, obsessed with himself and all of his accomplishments Grades on a 4.0 Scale for everything, and never gives above a 2.0(C-) for any assignment. If you want fail, take this class! =(
Just finished my 200 question final. Absolutely the worst teacher ive ever had. Let the guy retire you got to be kidding me. This class is useless. Don't take this professor. Crash another course its not worth it.
Since when is 2.0 a C-? Whoever wrote that (below) should read the SDSU Catelog and Dr. Dalbey's sylabus. Both sources say the 2.0 is a C not a C-.
Despite what everyone says, he is a good teacher, but very hard grader. Take him if you want to learn, otherwise go elsewhere. Just follow his notes to a T and pay attention. There are 4 minor assignments, multi choice final and 1 large group project.

Should be an easy class...but isn't with his grading. Long Analytical Report Project is extremely stressful for low grade anyway.
you think you did GREAT on your work. get it back. BAM! U GOT a 1.5 or a 2. what a hard grader! work your bum off just to get a 2. what the heck is that? and that LAR. just forget about working hard on it. the best youll get is a C.
By far the worst prof. at state. No matter how hard you try and how much you ask for help you he will still give you horrible grades. As far as the LAR at the end of class, don't even try, everyone gets a C no matter what.
dalbey is the worst teacher i've ever had!!! i'm a dean's list student and worked my butt off in this class only to squeak by with a B-. working hard doesn't pay off in his class and his examples are from 1975...he should just fully retire.

Why a 4.0 student has a C in this class baffles me. It's a class about resumes and memos ... come on, not rocket science. He tries to grade hard to make his dumb ass feel better. PLEASE RETIRE, DALBEY!!! You need to be reported to a teaching board.

Although Dalbey isn't a great teacher, he's probably ur best shot at a good grade in 290. Ridiculously hard to get an A in the class tho. The LAR is impossible to get a good grade on. Highest grade i've seen is a 3, but most get 2s.Then there's the 200 question final. Also, repeats himself a lot.
Very hard class. Hard grader no matter how hard you work on the assignments don't expect more than a C. All teams get a C on the LAR. Final was hard, 27 pages long, 200+ multiple choice questions,hard to study for. Tip: make sure your formatt for every assignment is perfect and no mispelled words.
Not only was the class extremely boring, but even when you DID pay attention, it never paid off. Every assignment will end in a horrible grade no matter how hard you try. The only thing this class did was lower my GPA and prevent me from getting into my major!
Bases your essay grade on the dumbest stuff like line spacing. I would really call his class a writing course and not even a grammar course. You just learned how to space a business essay, which is boring and pointless.
A senile old man who should have retired years ago lectures are him rambling on about himself and his so called acomplishments our class even got the pleasure of details from his hernia operation, he also mispronounces everything and repeats himself for emphasis at random points

This professor is a very nice man. He is difficult to understand in class and appears to be "cold", but it you talk to him in his office he is always very respectul, pays attention to what you say, and is friendly. The class though, is somewhat boring and slow and quite repetitive. I got a C+, and gettin a B or A, is is quite hard. GOOD TEACHER

I took his class in the summer and got a B. The class is really boring but most classes are! You have to get your grammar skills down in order to do well; he will point out the most minor mistakes. But that's what makes this class good for you - you will write better! Pay close attention to detail. Don't take him if english is your 2nd language.
He grades on a scale of 4 for everything! He can be nice but then he can turn on you and be an old grump. There's a major project called Long Analytical Report that demands a lot of time if you want to get a good grade, but every group in my class got a 2 (out of 4), except one group got a 1 (out of 4). if u like Cs, that's what u'll prolly get.
Worst teacher ever...highest grade in class C+, lowest grade in class C-/D+...same effort put forth. 80% of grade is a group project and the best group project EVER was a 2.7 out of 4 or a C+. He is incredibly boring and I learned nothing from the class, it just hurt my GPA

Old and senile. He is so old that he came out of retirement to teach. Very hard grader. Class consists of 4 short papers, one long paper with a group (LAR), and 200 MC Final. I believe he likes the sound of his own voice. Most of the class you spend working on a Long Analytical Report.

horrible teacher. cant hear very well. one minded and doesnt think outside of his box. doesnt understand others logic even though they are usually correct. everything has to be his way so dont try to do anything away from how oddly he thinks. you must have patience to handle him. gets mad at mistakes even tho he makes them ALL the time!

I agree with everyone else...this class is painful to sit through.. he shows you slides but tells you not to take notes... he loves to talk about himself and everything he's done... he lives in rio de janiro, he used to teach in japan, he wrote a paper on nazisim... whats a LAR? I dont know.. all i learned is Richard Dalbey's Life.
This class was the worst class I've taken at San Diego State University. He grades extremely hard on your written assignments. Either take another teachers or don't take the class at State at all. The class extremely difficult to sit through.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had in my 15 years of going to school. All he ever does in class is show overheads which don't teach anything. He has favorites and those are the only people that will pass. He is a harsh grader and he is really rude. He is completely useless as a teacher. Avoid his class at all costs!
He is a very cultured man...maybe too much. Strange since of humor-long final and group report. only a few basic writing assignments-but VERY HARD grader. If you ask questions and have him look over your stuff, you will do fine. Every detail counts-.,!?, grammar,spelling, etc are vital!!!!

the final will kill you. but somehow i got a B in the class. if you get him, make sure you go to his office hours so then he knows you... i think thats how i passed. take all assignments to his office hours before you hand them in, he corrects it and then you fix it then you pass the class. oh and the LAR sucks, but if he likes you, you will be ok.
I graduated from SDSU over 10 years ago. I felt that I had to mention how terrible this professor was in order to help others avoid his arrogance & inconsistent grading. If at all possible, take the course with a different professor. On the first day I knew I was in trouble based on the way he spoke to students & by the way he glorified himself.

First of all, DO NOT buy the text book OR the reference manual. Everything he says/tests on is out of his 2 course readers. You probably won't get good grades on the assignments. He grades based on his standards, not the real world. His way or the highway. Class isn't horrible, it's just boring stuff.
like the last review said, his way or the C way. he grades on a scale of 1 to 4, so he finds 2 average. the LAR is a pain and must be PERFECT or you will get a bad grade. nothing gets by him and you have to keep consistency. hes extremely conceited and will tell the same story many times. pronounces words peculiarly too
I believe that if you went to class and office hour that you will be fine in the course. He was a hard instructor but i learned a lot from this individual that heavily applies to the business world. If you want to get an easy grade go take Kennedy's 290 class, but if you want to actually learn applicable business techniques take this course.

He's not impossible but he really is a pain. Like 40% of your grade is small writing assignments. They sound easy but he is reaaally picky. 30% is this group 30 page report. It's not as bad as it sounds but he grades them really tough so make sure yours is perfect, and pick a good topic. The final is 30%, 200 questions, and it's just ridiculous.
Hands down best teacher at SDSU. He kills it 24/7.

PLEASE, avoid taking this class with him if possible. Prof. Dalbey is not a horrible guy, but the way he structures his class and grades assignments are ridiculous. This is the only class I did not receive an A in this semester. The final is horrendous, there are 200 questions and half of the material is not even covered in class!

Everything is graded REALLY harshly. When you ask him questions (office hours/class hours) he makes you feel like the dumbest person on the planet. Extremely difficult to even get a B. Resume, cover letter, thank you letter, time extension letter, and a 200 questions final. Good luck with this old man. You will definitely need it.
He will knock you out points for everything! commas, dates, signature, making up titles. Only 4 to 5 assignments, that are supposed to be easy, he grades hard on them. 200 questions final exam! good luck!
Horrible teacher. Avoid at all cost. He will make you feel stupid whenever you come to his office hours. No quiz, his assignments are worth 14% each. His grading is hard and he is a very detailed, every single things count in the assignment. His class is boring and useless. 200 questions on the final was hard. AVOID.
