Great guy, good instructor, lost a lot of us in the epsilon-delta theory
First time I haven't been lost in a math class. An excellent teacher, especially for anyone who struggles with basic algebra.
Mr. Davis is a wonderful math teacher. I have NEVER understood algebra or gotten higher than a 2.0 in a math class. I finished his algebra 60 with a 3.4!!!! He is very helpful and makes it easy to understand. I would recomend him to anyone!
Knows his stuff, interesting and often hilarious lectures, involves the class in what he's teaching, very helpful and approachable outside of class.
he goes too fast, so be careful, very difficult exams and quizzes, and tough grader
Richard's ability to teach math has changed my life forever! Prior to taking the course I had no understanding of math, but I was able to complete the course with a 4.0! Thanks Richard.
This class was not too hard. Homework is not a requirement as it is not collected, but it would be hard to pass the class without doing it. It was just nice because you could skip the easy hw problems and not be penalized. Mr. Davis was nice and offered help after class.
An awesome teacher with great personality. Tests were not meant to be really hard, so even if you arent completely clear on the subject you can do well. He grows garlic and wears a really nice pair of jeans often. Definately worth the cost of tuition.
Mr. Davis really knows his stuff and for some reason, thinks math is exciting. He is tough, but fair, and I learned a lot.
Mr. Davis is one of the best teachers i've had in school. He explains everything very well, and makes sure you understand it. His test's aren't bad, they're made for 50 minutes but he gives you the whole class period 1 hour 20 min, to take them. If you c
Easy class, great teacher, got a 4.0 never doing any homework and skipping one day a week. :)
funny man, that ex-garlic farmer. but in all seriousness, if you just keep up and ask questions, its not so bad.
awsome teacher, i enjoyed his class very much, very helpful, his grades are very fair, and he will always take the time to make sure you understand the material he goes over. tests and quizes are all on the homework, so make sure you do it....
Very cool guy. He's pretty paranoid about GPS systems in your cell phone, which is fun. Great teacher, shows multiple ways of doing things, gets really into problems. Makes sure everyone is clear on whats going on (if they participate at least).
If your having problems in his class, go and see him. He likes and grades students that go to his office and talk to him better. Any Math 90 class is hard so it's kinda hard to rate, but at least he doesn't talk in monotone. This is a hard class and we had a quiz every week, though we didn't have to turn in homework. Work hard and you'll do fine!
His teaching style was clear. His anecdotes made math more fun. All around, an awsome teacher.
Best math teacher i have ever had! His quizes are everythings we've discussed in class and he makes everything very clear. He also drops your 2 lowest quiz scores because he's a teacher that actually wants you to get a good grade! he tells you what the homework is on blackboard so if u can't attend, its easy to still be on schedule. loved him!
I had him for 151, and 152. One of the best instructors on campus, I've even decided to become a math major because of him. He's not concerned about asking the impossibly hard questions on a test, rather he'll ask questions that genuinely determine your understanding. He's freaking hilarious to boot. Going to his office guarantees a better grade.
Awesome Teacher. He actually wants you to get a good grade, and helps you achieve that. He drops your 2 lowest quiz scores, and has 2 midterms and a final, if a midterm is lower than the final, he will replace your score with the higher one.
Great instructor for the lower level math classes. Word around campus is that he isn't too great when it comes to pre-calc and higher. He is clear with his expectations and a great instructor.
Very good teacher if you want to get your foot back into the math world. He really wants his students to pass! I call him Mr. Belding (U know...Saved By The Bell)!!! I would recommend to anyone who hates math and have struggled in the past!!! Do your homework, and you'll do great!!!
Good instructor, do really well on the weekly quizzes and you should be ok.
Sorry, messed up the rating on last one, should be 4,4,4,2; Not 2,2,2,4. This should balance it.
This is my very favorite teacher ever! I HATED math before his classes, and now I absolutely love it! It's fun, like a puzzle! He has great methods for helping students retain information about the "rules". I can still hear him in my head when I sit down to take a test. He uses humor and light sarcasm to bring life to math. I absolutely LOVE him!
Gives very easy tests and an easy final exam. Likes graphing and algebra questions a lot. A pretty good instructor.
not a good teacher for calculus series. ok for pre-calc and lower level math. he doesn't know any of the material. I have no idea how he is a teacher, he always reads the book in class as his lectures which i could do at home too and if a student asks him hmwork question he wouldn't know how to do he'll be like i'll tell you tomorrow.
If you want learn from someone who wants you to succeed, then this is the place for you.
Awesome math teacher. Made me love that much more. If you ask questions he breaks it down for you. Gives partial credit. Gives alot of hw but they benefit you. Got great test results thanks to his teaching. Thanks Richard.
He is always willing to help!!!
The BEST math teacher EVER! I hated math before this class, now I love it. He made it super easy to understand. A great teacher for someone who thinks they aren't good at math. He doesn't collect homework but still do it, it makes a difference. I would take all my math classes from him if I could.
I HATED math before I had him as a teacher! He makes it easy and truly cares about his students. His tests are pretty easy and he doesn't count the 3 tests you do worst on! He explains nicely and is truly a good teacher.
Really helpful and generous
worst teacher ever! doesn't take his time to explain, always seem like he's rushing.
Had Mr. Davis for Math 60 and registered for 90 next quarter! Can't wait to be back in his class. GREAT teacher! Helpful, funny, and pretty darn honest and patient. Highly recommend him to students who need a teacher that explains things clearly.
Math 060, Davis is able to communicate to his students in a releavent way. He allows time for questions and gives full respect. Treats everyone dignity and respect. Davis is a fair grader and gives you partial credit for showing your work. Can explain mathmatics in everyday language so it is easy to understand.
Great teacher. Probably one of the best this school has.
Took precalc with him and am now enrolled in Calculus with him. A really fair teacher but at the same time you can't pass if you don't do the homework. Lets you know what to study for when it comes to quizzes and exams. Best math teacher I've had all my life! (Also started doing youtube videos to teach content: REALLY USEFUL)
best teacher i've had
Greatest math teacher i have ever had. Very clear in his explanations and what he expects. He is available during office hours to help, and if you do all the homework you should do well on his tests and quizzes. He is very fair
Mr. Davis is awesome! I never liked math until his class. Always available office hours and will spend his own time to tutor students. Makes You Tube videos of his lectures to help students. Also, does not assign expensive textbooks like some profs - book costs around $8.00 and HW is not graded. Tests are easy, too. Great teacher who cares!
Really nice man, never gets mad, even when stupid questions are asked. He made me enjoy and understand math. He's very helpful and is well organized in his class teachings. He genualy wants you to pass.
best math teacher at edcc hands down.
He is boring
Overall, he wants you to pass. He gives partial credit on absolutely everything. He makes youtube videos, but they didn't really help me :/ he's really friendly and facilitates a study club, as well. Biggest issue I've had with this class is that he doesn't assign you specific problems for the homework; he just gives you 1-100odd, etc.
He can be very helpful for upcoming quizzes. But when it comes to the exams, he tends to screw you over. The level of questions in the exams are on a whole other level than from the homework and quizzes. And sometimes, he gives exam questions that are irrelevant to what we learn in class. You learn stuff in his class, but get bad grades.
Very helpful and caring teacher. He personally cares about your grade and is extremely encouraging. Goes out of his way to help you and is very clear. Also, he has a great sense of humor and makes learning fun. One of the best teachers I've ever had.
Good teacher. He likes to speed up but he is in schedule. Test are not that hard. He doesn't grade over homework, only tests and quizzes. His class can be a "easy A" class if your good/okay with math.
as an international student, I think his explanations are unclear. he talks really fast and the materials he explained are just..blurry. however he makes up by creating youtube videos which are VERY helpful. quizzes are pretty easy and straightforward, exams are not really bad either. I like his grading policy - lots of second chances. recommended!
He is a great teacher. In class he explains things very fast, but he has videos from his youtube channel which cover main points of the lessons he teaches in class. He also has study group everyday. Quizzes aren't hard, most problems are already mentioned in class and his videos, and he will drop your 2 lowest quizzes scores. Tests are also okay.
all his lectures are available on youtube, the quizzes are very hard. class is boring
Mr. Davis is a super nice guy. He has a real passion for math and for his students. He has really high expectations and doesn't tone anything down. He moves very quickly which makes it essential to refer to the textbook and work through the problems.
Great teacher. Has youtube videos for main lesson points he teaches in class, his quizzes and tests are straightforward. He has an incredible commitment to his students. Knows what he's talking about, has out of class study groups, nice, drops 2 lowest quiz scores.
He's the bomb.com. Super passionate about what he teaches. Super helpful. Super nice. He's a good guy. The class isnt exactly 'easy', but with hard work anybody can pass this class.
Mr Davis is honestly one of the best math professors I've ever had. In the first two weeks you'll think he teaches fast. But no, you get used to his teaching style and it's not fast at all. You have to put in the time to succeed in math. Review his youtube videos before and after class. I like that he uses the text book and doesn't use webassign!
Mr. Davis is an AMAZING teacher. He is someone who does what he does because he loves teaching. I HIGHLY RECOMMMEND HIM IF YOU STRUGGLE WITH MATH. Before his class, math was beyond me. Now I feel more than prepared for the next level. The only thing I don't like is that he doesn't teach all levels of math. I really wish he did!!
Great teacher, willing to help students individually outside of class. Started the quarter off really bad with a failing quiz average and exam scores but I put in the effort and was able to get an A out of the class. For the first two chapters, watch his vids, they are extremely helpful. For the exams, go over ALL his previous exams.
Very fun teacher, and extremely passionate about helping his students. However the way the class is setup, only the tests count towards your grade which makes it very hard to pass this class. He expects you to spend 2-3 hours studying a night to get a decent grade. I don't know many people who actually have that amount of time to pass ONE class
Very friendly! Will give you partial credit if you show your work and our on the right track! I was nervous to take MATH since it was not my strongest subject, BUT I GOT 4.0 winter 2013!!! I cant wait to take pre-calculus with him in the fall 2014. He has great study groups.
He is a great teacher for the class and he is even helpful after you are done taking his class. I had him for precalc 1 and 2. He was helping me with my math until i was done with all my calc series. Extremely helpful and nice, not easy teacher for sure tho. Don't expect an easy A but you will learn a lot!
Mr. Davis is the BEST math teacher ever. He is very clear in his lectures, but you have to participatedo some homework to get a good grade. He is really invested in helping the students pass. Also very helpful-he even has his own youtube channel with videos for every chapter to help students better understand the material. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Mr. Davis is the GREATEST math teacher ever. He is very clear in his lectures, but you have to participatedo the homework to get a good grade. He is really invested in helping the students pass. Also very helpful- he even has his own youtube channel with videos for every chapter to help students better understand the material. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Davis is the best. he keeps it simple. he wont complicate it with a bunch of online homework and unnecessary group projects. if you do what he says and put the time in you will pass with a good grade forsure
Mr. Davis is by far one of my favorite teachers. He expects you to do the homework and watch his videos, (which are great). He offers study labs which are one on one class periods, you can attend no matter what math class you're in. Do ALL the hand outs and HW (not graded) as needed, and you'll get an easy A. Not a genius, but a great teacher.
HE IS THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! I think studying handout is more helpful for testsexams than studying homework. He explains a bit fast, but if you ask some questions, he would answers clearly. Go to study groups. Watch his video.
Richard was a fantastic professor and helped me out so much! Pre-calc is not an easy subject but he cares enough about his student's success that he will help you through it. He'll even drop little hints for a quiz if you are smart enough to catch it. I definitely recommend him to everyone!!
He cares about his students. However the class is hard he tries to teach the material so students can learn how it works and so it stays in their head. He always gives out old tests as study material so students know what to expect. Make sure to study and do all the homework, go to study groups and you should be ok
Mr. Davis was so good! He is really easygoing and helpful, and explains things really clearly, and is also really helpful when you are stuck on something. He assigned homework, but it was not mandatory to do it. But definitely do the homework, it is essential to passing! I highly recommend this teacher, he is the best!
I really liked him. His explanations are so great and easy to understand. I got 4.0 with less effort compare to other professors, because he teaches really well. Although my friends hate him and complain about him, i really liked him. I would take his class at math 153.
I took precal 1 & 2 with him, and hes really nice. He moves pretty fast in class, and sometimes I get a little confused. But by watching his videos on each section, youll do fine. He does have quizzes every week, but he always gives out handouts for each chapter, which is really helpful. Hes an overall great teacher.
He is one of my favorite teacher. Although a lot of people failed Math 151 (60%), he came up with extra credit assignments and made final replaceable to least scored test. He is a great teacher to be around. You will enjoy this class if you have good understanding. Doing homework is important, he has Youtube page for lectures,he does not use canvas
A little scattered but overall a really great teacher!
He is a very good teacher, but I don't recommend take his class if you don't have a good self-study skill. I don't understand his class at all when he talks in class. So do my friends. Therefore, we always study after class together by ourselves. he gives a handout before quiz. my score is 92, my friend's is 99. Therefore, we don't recommend if not
I took Davis for Precal 1 & 2, and he's a great teacher, who is very reasonable, and cares about his classes. As long as you have the time to work hard and do the homework, you'll do just fine. He always gives out practice tests for the two exams and the final, and he's made you tube videos with examples for almost every section of the book.
I took Davis for 97, 141 and 142. He's an awesome teacher and doesn't grade you on homework. This is really helpful because you get to study on your own pace. He gives lots of worksheets that prepare you for your quizzes and he is a very caring professor. His lectures are pretty fast-paced but he won't mind you asking him to repeat something.
I would say he is the hardest math teacher at edcc, even though he is a smart teacher at math, he always likes to give a tricky question and he expect the student to solve it. he had a bad class location and his technique of teaching is not good. he explanation doesn't match his videos, the handout before the quiz is so hard so not helpful.
Don't take him unless you are independent and have an easy time processing things yourself. His lectures are irrelevant and his tests are really hard. Only 3 (out of 37) students are getting A's in his class. And 9 are failing. Prepare for failure if you take his class.
Davis is incredibly kind, but his class is seriously exhausting! Don't take him if you're looking for an easy A, can't handle people who stutter, or do bad on tests. Since homework isn't graded, it's easy to fall behind, but if you're able to manage your time well, then go for it. It's probably best to save yourself the stress&go with someone else.
Davis is a nice guy, but this class is extremely hard. The class average is 69% and 20 people are failing. This class takes a lot of work and your only grade are tests and quizzes. If you are extremely good at self-studying and perform well on tests and quizzes, then take him. If you think you are bad at these things, just take my advice and don't.
Great teacher. Love his Algebra skills and gives good feedback. Offers extra office hours and helps students work on problems. Participation is not mandatory, but helps if you do. Orthodox in style but can learn a lot if you keep up with the homework. Loved the ability to work on the white board with fellow students learning and solving problems.
Very nice guy he was hosting the study group for all math students 4 days a week 6 times a week. lectures very fast. pro does a lot of proofs and shows how to derive things so you can think on your feet. con he expects you to think on your feet on every exam. he only graded quizzes and exams no homework points but tons of homework still.
Prof Davis is a great teacher- he goes above and beyond to give students resources and his own time to help them pass. If you do the homework and keep up this class can be a breeze. Fall behind and it can be a nightmare
Extraordinarily kind. Great lectures and no homework. Highly suggest you do the homework and come to his study groups to succeed though. Other than that, it'll be short and sweet.
Pretty much have to learn things on your own, plan on dedicating at least several hours to studying at home a week. Attend study groups and do the homework! He doesnt collect anything and you are only graded by quizzes and exams.
Math142 is hard, lots people failed his class while many got 90+. He is tough grader but reasonable he doesnt check your homeworks but if you dont do them chances for you to pass this hard 142 math is slim. He explains very fast hard to understand you gotta invest time to study at home no extra credits, just he drops 2 out of 8 lowest quizzes.
Davis is a hard grader and only grade on test and quizzes. He does not give out 0.5 points and take off full points on his test and quizzes. Hes careless. Doesnt bother to ask if we need clarification and made sure students understand the concept throughly. Plan on investing time outside of class. Likewise he post grade through an excel sheet.
The class goes through the material really fast, but Mr. Davis gives plenty of opportunities to keep up (he has almost daily study halls). Another thing of notice is that he DOESN'T USE THE COMPUTER FOR HOMEWORK. All assignments are either straight from the textbook or his own handouts. This is really helpful to students who are more hands-on.
Mr. Davis is good. I had him for both 141 and 142. He goes a bit fast but he makes himself accessible outside of class if you get confused. However, I had to selfteach myself. Quizzes and Tests revolve around the HW and no textbook purchase was necessary for this quarter because we used WAMAP. He is caring and kind but sometimes doesn't email back.
Professor Davis was a mixed bag. He gave great feedback and help on discussion boards and was accessible via office hours or emails. His weekly REQUIRED Zoom lectures though were a joke. He sped through the material ridiculously fast and with zero clarification. Only take his class if you're comfortable teaching yourself the material.
I took his Math151 and Math 152 class and it was awesome. I always had enough time to do the homework and weekly quizzes. There are lot of quizzes and 3 major exam but if you do homework, that will be easy. I encourage you to join zooms to easier to understand the lesson, but you could learn it by yourself through class notes that he posted.
Excellent class for a "wake up call" to college. Most of the studying is on your own with the videos provided. No hand holding and making sure you pass. Mr. Davis was ALWAYS available outside of class with office hours, and made sure that he could help you in any way possible, just so long as you asked him. It was a tough class, but I recommend it.
Took Math151,152 last year. Easy class, everything is planned ahead, always have times to finish homework and quizzes. Final and midterm contains a lot of questions from homework and previous quizzes. Really want to take his Math153,254 if he has.
Provides a free online textbook, uses wamap for everything, easy to follow.
Took it as an online class because of covid, but quizzes and exams are doable since he mostly took the questions from the worksheets. Just do all the tasks in WAMAP, and you should be fine. His lectures are kinda difficult to understand because he explains so fast, so I find the YT videos he linked in the WAMAP course easier to follow.
