Extremely fair prof, what you put in is what you get. He not a screw job like other profs in that no matter how hard you try your only going to get a certain mark. I really enjoyed this course, and he made the material very interesting. He related all concepts to real life situations which really helps to understand the material. The material learned in his class is quiet practical and useful. In terms of the teaching method I really liked his Power-Points. For the exam I found that he gave very good notes. Professor Deklerk has a lot of industry experience in his field of internal auditing. The lectures are all about experiences and he makes the funny too! However, if you want to do well, do the readings focus on the key concepts and use that as a primary aspect to doing well in this class, on the plus side he tells you EXACTLY what to study for :)

He IS THE BEST accounting profs i had in my 4 years at ryerson. Had both 621 & 821 with him. You need to go to his class and learn by listening to him. this professor is knowledgeable and puts a lot of work into being the great professor that he is. he is extremely fair and is there for his students. material that may have been dull is always very bearable and often times in my opinion actually made interesting .he scans the class at the end of each day which one time got me my sony charger back.

Says a lot of random stuff in class, such as about his past experience as a professional in the internal audit world. However, that's because the textbook itself is very boring and poorly written. He will repeat the important stuff to you and make sure you understand what he is saying though. Assignments and exams were very fair.

Richard Deklerk is a phenomenal professor. He actually brings real life experience to the classroom. He adds great value both inside and outside the classroom. He's the only professor in Accounting that actually has a personality. Another thing worth noting is that he is genuinely interested in teaching and practicing Internal Auditing.

Richard is an energetic and enthusiastic professor who takes material that can easily be mind-numbing and turns it into real world, applicable lessons that all students can learn from and appreciate. Take his class, work hard and you will be better off for it.

Very good prof. He tells you exactly what the short answer questions will be on the midterm and final and the assignments are easy as well. He makes the class fun and interesting by adding jokes and funny stories and he usually ends the class early.

The only prof I could truly say that I loved. He has years of first hand experience as an internal auditor. He tells lots of funny stories in class. He loves ice cream! Assignments are very straightforward. If you read the book and do the mc questions in the back, you are set for both the midterm and final. No tricks or pitfalls.

This professor took a very dry subject and dry textbook, and made it interesting. Used real life examples from his past experience, which was helpful. Also used jokes, which made the class more interesting and easier to pay attention. He is very approachable and helpful when needed. I highly recommend taking him.

He's funny and kept the lectures interesting. Always ending early is a bonus too. Talks about wife and kids a lot and sometimes repeats examples. Gives midterm and final exam questions the week before so you're able to prep for them but he wants really specific answers so it's hard to get perfect. Would love to take ACC821 with him if he teaches it

He's hilarious, love his little stories he tells the class, does get a little off topic but what the heck! You need something entertaining when you're sitting for 3 hours long learning about boring numbers and calculations. Probably the best accounting teacher in the school.

He's very helpful, easy to talk to, will gladly explain the content to you, and cares about his students (wants you to pass). There are iClicker quizzes in class everyday.

Go to class for the iclicker marks. He helps you out on these quizzes and makes class interesting. He's funny and talks about his own life and personal experiences. Makes ACC100 fun.

Richard is one of the best accounting profs I've had so far! He's super hilarious and makes accounting fun and engaging. He gives out assignments almost weekly. The midterm was a bit tough. He'll give you hints about what to expect on the midterm and final so show up to every class! He's very approachable so don't be afraid to ask him questions.

Richard is such an amazing prof! He easily makes 3 hour accounting lecture bearable, especially night classes. He is pretty straight forward with his midterms and assignments, and gives you all the material you need to succeed in his class.

Deklerk is a beauty when it comes to Auditing. In such courses, where a lot of theoretical concepts drown you, Rich makes it manageable. He doesnt bombard students with a lot of work but emphasizes on making the concepts clear. Show up in his class, do the assigned homework problems and this course should get you a B+.

Deklerk is an amazing professor, but he's not the professor for everyone. He cares a lot for his students, but his jokes might get in the way for some people who just wanna learn. Take him if you want a bit of entertainment or if you've learned accounting already.

Richard is a really good Professor and was one of the best Prof's in the accounting department at Ryerson. Make sure you enroll in his classes for accounting as he genuinely cares for his students and wants you to succeed. I really enjoyed having him teach the course as he always tried to add a little bit of flavour to this VERY DRY course.

He talks about his wife and family a lot and because of the way the course is set up now he doesn't really teach much, its more of going over the inclass questions but if you don't understand it he explains it very well. Hes a pretty good prof, his jokes get kind of old cuz he tells similar jokes a lot but he tries to make it interesting

Mr. Deklerk is a very kind man and will help you in absolutely any way he can to ensure that you pass this class. He goes "over and above" his obligations as a teacher. Additionally, he provides many excellent examples of his career experiences in Auditing and Accounting to illustrate Auditing theory. I highly recommend him.

Compared to ACC 100, Richard seemed to decline in quality. While he manages to tell you what to study on the exam, the final exam has many topics that aren't even mentioned to know READ CAREFULLY. The lectures are completely pointless as he went so fast I couldn't keep up. Although he does care to help students, very particular about missed marks.

I have Richard this summer and he is the only professor I would have taken, except for maybe Grech. ACC110 is a tough course, but he makes it better. Please teach higher level accounting courses!

Deklerk was pretty upbeat and enthusiastic during lectures, helped me stay awake in class. Reads off the slides really quick but only highlighted the most important info for exams. Gave me a second chance after I missed my mid-term, so I got plenty of respect for the man. Highly reccommend to anyone who values good feedback.

If you have to take ACC100 make sure you take it with him. The only prof who wants his students to pass and do well, he wants to pass u. It is not an easy course you have to put in effort for this course. Richard will help you give marks wherever he can. DO THE PRACTICE REVIEW FOR MID TERM AND FINAL it is the SAME FORMAT of the mid term and final.

He's a really funny and enthusiastic guy! Tends to crack jokes a lot (especially about his own weight haha), and talks about his personally funny stories as well. For this course, no matter which prof you get, you write the same midterm, final, and quizzes. So it doesn't really make a difference.. His teaching method is average

He is a very good choice since he explains the material well and make it very entertaining by making lots of jokes. Since each professor writes their own midterms, he will give a bunch of hints and make it very similar to what you learn in class. But beware of the final exam, he only writes one question so it will be more difficult.

Accounting in general is very boring. Richard takes a boring class and makes it exciting and interesting. For CACC110 I could not recommend a better professor to take the class with. Make sure to show up to the class right before the exam and he will give hints on what to expect.

Richard is a funny professor however, he seems to talk about his family and personal life more than teaching the course. Due to the iclicker tests attendance is mandatory but his classes seem to go by fast. He was an absolutely hilarious and nice guy, however, I had to teach myself the course and go to all the study groups to get a good mark.

Great prof, He really lets you clearly know whats going to be on exams, and the quizzes each class worth 10% is practically a free 10% with him, You will understand why when you take him. Even through high school, I had a lot of difficulty with accounting, coming into this class I was really nervous. Richard made the course material easier to learn and understand, the textbook/ practice questions were also incredibly helpful. Hands down the best prof I have even seen in Ryerson. Honestly he's a very down to earth professor, I really really really hope he teaches HTA602 finance in next semester. Can't wait to enrol again in one of his classes. The course starts off as a refresh of ACC100 accounting but then gets into the HTM accounting, this prof is amazing n funny

It wasn't necessarily that Richard was a hard prof, it was more a hard class to teach. He does his best to brighten up the class with his stories and it is clear that he genuinely is a fair, respectable, and caring prof.

He'll tell you exactly what you need to know for your first two tests, however, he can't help much with the final since he doesn't make it. Overall, I studied the day before for both his tests, 2-3 days for the final and got an A. He knows BM kids aren't going to be accountants so he does not make the course hard BUT practice for the final!

His classes were greatly informative; I enjoyed how lively and hilarious his classes were (especially at 8 am!). I really appreciated his humor and he's a really kind guy. If you take him, you'll for sure have a memorable semester.

I'll be honest and say I did not learn much from attending the lectures. I read the PPTs by own for the midterms and finals and did pretty well. He helps quite a bit by telling you what will be on the midterms/finals. However, despite being a Finance course, little math was done. We got good grades but I'm not sure how much it helped our long term.

Ive taken Richard for Acc100, Acc406 and Fin300. By far my fav prof at Ryerson! Fin300 was super hard but Rich made it worthwhile. Bless this man!!

Richard is probably the best ACC100 prof out there. He cares about his students passing and is quick with his lectures. If you read the online textbook he puts up before class it makes the lecture 10x easier. If you don't read the textbook he basically goes over it in class. Always show up to class cause there are iclicker quizzes (easy marks).

During tough periods in the semester he cut a 3 hour lecture into 1 hour while providing us with all the content needed.

Richard is the go-to for ACC100. You will not regret taking his class at all. ACC100 is a difficult course in general and he tries his best to make it as "fun" and as "tolerable" as he could. Attendance is only mandatory for the iclickers which are easy marks. 30 mins and you can cut he doesn't care. He is super funny and down to earth. His practice questions will help you a lot to do well in the course. Hope I get more chances to take courses with him.

About as close as you are going to get to having Rodney Dangerfield as your accounting professor. Most of the class is going to consist of wacky stories told in a 60's like fashion with some accounting peppered in. I have not had him as a professor for long but from his reputation and what I've seen so far, I would highly recommend Rodney Deklerk.

ACC100 is a difficult course but rich makes it bearable. attendance is mandatory because of iclicker quizzes but that goes for all ACC100 classes. Richard explains things perfecltly by tossing jokes and family stories in his classes to break up the dense topic of ACC.

Richard make a dull accounting class bearable. Keeps me interested. Hope he teaches future courses.

Richard is the best professor I've ever had!!! As long as you come to class having read the material before hand you'll definitely benefit from the lecture. He makes an accounting class extremely entertaining and really cares about his students! He's always available and responds quickly. He wants everyone to do well and helps with the iclickers :)

I took managerial accounting with Professor Deklerk and it was the most informative class I have taken at Ryerson. He is always willing to give advice during office hours so do not be afraid to email him as he respond very quickly. He makes a lot of jokes and you can tell that he has a lot of experience as an accountant.

If you can stay on top of your work, I recommend this professor. He's quite hilarious and makes the class go by very fast. However, if you thrive on actually doing work and in class practices , this professor is not for you! If you are in his class, do not underestimate Test 2 and the Final exam, as it is way harder than Test 1. Good luck!

Such a funny and kind professor who truly want you to do well in his class. Go to each of his lectures because he goes through all the material in 2 hours max, as well as gives a full breakdown on the tests and final exam. His two tests are very easy and straightforward. If you study for the final with his breakdown, you are bound to do well.

Take him. He was good at teaching and better than ALL the other profs! He actually cares. Yes, he talks about other things but it's a good way to stop stressing and then get back to learning. Work for your mark, show up to class and you the midterm and final will be fine. If he sees you make an effort, he will too.

I found ACC406 tougher than any other course. Thank you Richard for your help.

I thought ACC406 was suppose to be easier than ACC100. Not! Richard always had time to answer my practice questions and provide guidance. Thanks Richard!

Richard is the G.O.A.T

Best prof I ever had at Ryerson. He does go off on tangents but they're funny, and sometimes he does go through the slides a little fast but if you ask a question he'll always stop and explain for anyone who needs it, or will offer extra help after class. Runs through the whole test/exam beforehand so you should go to the class before a test.

He marks pretty tough on open-book exams but closed booked he marks very generously. Not sure how he's able to tell stories 8 in the morning that have nothing to do with the course but its okay.

Richard is definitely a one of a kind professor at Ryerson given his interesting stories that he shares at every lecture. I definitely learned a lot about his family over the semester. He marked the open book mid-term quite tough so be prepared, do NOT think open booked means you will easily do well. Overall professor Deklerk was good.

The prof is great but I'll be honest. Didn't really go to class. Ever. Go through the textbook and practice, practice, practice! I suck at math so much but if you put in the work you'll be fine! I started studying a week before the midterm, practiced for a full week using the textbook and going over an old exam and got a 85% on the midterm.

I won't have passed the class, if it wasn't for Prof Deklerk. When covid 19 started he was accessible via telephone office hours. He helped me prepared for the online exam by directed me to questions from the textbook to practice.

Richard Deklerk is one of the real gems in the ryerson accounting department. He keeps seminars light and fun which is very much appreciated. Perhaps one of his best qualities is that he teaches you only the most important concepts and leaves out the fluff. If you follow Richard's guidance you will do well!

This prof helped me so much and actually seemed to care that I understood the material. His class was a bit tough but worked out pretty well in the end.

Richard is one of the nicest profs at Ryerson teaching accounting. He is patient when answering questions from students. He is quite generous in sparing participation marks and genuinely wants you to get all of the marks when you do the in-class activities if you show up. I managed to do well in his class and would definitely recommend him!

Honestly I attended 2 lectures the entire semester and was able to pass with an A. The content/work is very easy and he doesn't pile on a million assignments like other professors. Definitely recommend for GMS200 as it's an easy A and there's really no need to even study for the exams.

a great prof overall. he doesnt give a lot work like the other profs do. hes super accessible outside of class and is really respectful. he marks decent and midterm and final was multiple choice. glo bus is a big part of ur grade so make sure your group is good. really wants us to do well

I'm a UofGH student and I had him for Managerial Accounting... Richard is a professor who genuinely cares about his students' success. He is very accessible outside class and is always willing to go over any questions you have. The only minor issue is that he talks fast and sometimes skims through content. Still would take his class again though.

Really kind and caring prof. He's straightforward and there's no need to attend the lectures. I did pretty well on both the midterm and final without studying. He marks really easy too. He shows support to his students and wants us all to excel.

I don't get the other reviews. Richard isn't a bad prof, he's good and I'm doing well in his class. I don't attend every lecture - I just watch the videos provided and fill out the student copy of the notes and do practice questions. You don't have to attend his lectures if you're bothered by his discussion/internet.

Hilarious prof. Wish he did stand up. I despise accounting but thanks to Deklerk's lectures I looked forward to class and actually paid attention. His lectures are short but he manages to cover everything.

I think a lot of issues arise from students thinking the lectures are the only part when they're supplementary to the textbook. This is an ACC-100 issue, not a Richard issue. Richard is half teaching and half stand-up, so if you have no sense of humour and contempt for enthusiasm take Lior. Otherwise enjoy the standup!

Rich is the best! He is funny and genuinely cares about his students. He will try his best to help you with any question and is just such a nice human. You will learn from him and considering accounting is quite a difficult course, having Deklerk will be the difference of passing or really struggling. I respect him greatly and would recommend 100%!

He keeps the class fun. ACC100 is pretty much a self teach course anyway as the textbook is more the enough to clearly understand the concepts. Sometimes he would go on tangents about funny life stories, but it's what kept the class awake. He is always available if you need extra help with the course or just general questions.

This is my second time having Richard and he's a great prof. His lectures aren't mandatory and I still managed to get decent grades with minimal effort. He really cares about his students and wants them to do well.

Richard is a great prof and always makes the class fun, we usually leave early which is an added bonus. Only thing that sucks is that if youre in SAF the way valuations are graded is completely different from the way they are graded in traditional SAF courses but Richard does a good job balancing the course. Too much reliance on group work sadly

Richard tells it like it is. Give realistic answers and doesn't add fluff to each lecture! I wish other profs would be as concise. He is not for everyone but I want more courses from him. I heard he will some accounting course next semester.

One of the best professors I ever had at TMU. He made a concept like Accounting fun and provided real-life examples which helped me understand multiple complex concepts. He cracked a lot of jokes which kept the lectures fun and interactive. Honestly, I would highly recommend him and would definitely take any courses he's teaching in the future.

This professor is fair, in my personal opinion. His teaching may go off-topic, but he keeps the class engaging with stories from his past and tries to relate them to the course content. He marks relatively hard for the group assignment appendix but gives good feedback. The feedback is handy for the other assignments and can help boost your grade.

Great prof. Extremely engaging teacher who is actually fun instead of a monotone teacher. Straight forward teaching, assignments, and exams. I just didn't like the group work since it's worst a significant amount of your mark, however, barely any members participated in my group which sort of ruined my mark. Overall, just pray for a good group.

Amazing prof! 10/10 would take again. Don't hesitate to take his class since this man is hilarious and creates a great environment! The course content was very interactive and the marking scheme was fair with no bias. The minor issue is he rarely gives 100%, but he won't fail you. You will still pass with 80+% very easily as long as you do the work

For GMS, the course itself doesnt even require much of a professor.Go to his lectures if you feel like you need to ask something or meet with your group mates for the project. Richard is a very funny dude who has alot of life experience that he loves sharing. He might occasionally say controversial things, but he always has good intentions.

Take this prof over any other prof for BUS 800!!!! super heavy course and richard made it so easy and manageable. Goes off topic for sure but might be the only class in my entire undergrad where the entire class was actually paying attention and off their phones. 10/10 wish I had him for other classes.

Absolute goat! I took this course a while back, but he was the only prof that was considerate when I was not feeling well to accept assignments late. He also makes his midterms and assignments really easy, with globus its self study but he helps, the final its application of theories which the department makes. But, he is honestly an amazing prof.

Love this prof. 10/10 recommend. Took him for GMS 690 this class was so fun and he accommodated us throughout everything.

Professor Deklerk is a pretty good professor. He has lots of real-world examples because he worked in so many different companies. He has more designations than any other person I have met. I had him on Monday mornings at 8 am and the only reason that I came was because of the stories. He talks a bit too much about non-course related content tho.

He's waffling about anything other than the course content 90% of the time but it's okay bc the course itself is pretty easy. Very chill guy.

The course is mostly common knowledge so not a lot of teaching is done/necessary. He reads through the slide deck extremely fast (about an hour and a half) and there's a 75% chance he's talking about his family, dogs, and/or chocolate. Having enough discipline to re-learn the concepts yourself is definitely handy if you're taking his course.

He's super funny and keeps the lectures short, which makes them so enjoyable. He also posts the slides in advance, so it's easy to follow along and prepare. Plus, he's a pretty easy marker, which definitely helps. Overall, I would take his class again for sure!

nice and funny prof! the course is a lot of work but is fairly simple. large weekly projects, so get ready to put in effort. he talks alot about his personal life and makes weird and sometimes inappropriate comments about himself, his wife, and students. the course is unorganized, with random quizzes thrown in that aren't even worth anything

This course was one of my first at TMU, and I can confidently say that I will be looking for him as a professor in the future. Great lectures and always gives relatable examples for key concepts. Make sure you do Glo-bus. He is extremely fast to give marks back as well. Everything is back within 3 days, including final exam marks!! TAKE THIS PROF!!

He was a good professor. His lectures were engaging, and he often shared stories about his family. He also had a great sense of humour, which made the class enjoyable. The lectures usually ended early, which was nice, and the assignments were easy to complete. The exams were easy and based on the information provided in the slides.

Very good prof. Funny and cares for students. The course itself is very content heavy but he explains concepts in a way that's easy to understand. The course is homework heavy if you want a good mark since it's all practice but that's out of the profs control. He made it easy to use the formulas and he told us which formulas were actually useful.
