EEEKK!! I took that class for psychology purposes, and I felt like i was in General Biology!! God, that class with him was a bore, and he doesn't talk lound enough, tests are not fun!
Dr.Deyo is a GOOD LECTURER !! Although I must say his classes are rather difficult and he can get a bit confusing with his info when he lectures. However his website does include VERY USEFUL study aids...that should help BIG TIME for the exams.....

This was intro to psychology but we learned NO PSYCHOLOGY AT ALL. He's horrible, doesn't teach the topic, and the CD book is a peice of crap
He's too smart for his own good. But he was helpful for my research.

one of the smartest people i know. knows his subjects and knows how to explain the topics to us laypersons. i get bored during most of the lectures, though...the web page is a savior

Very interesting lectures, but the tests are a moderately difficult. Kind of hard, but a good class. The cd is nice and the in-class projects are fun.
Without a doubt, one of the best profs ive had.If ur not prepared to work hard,be challenged & dedicated, dont bother taking his class.A brilliant & effective teacher, unique character,a charismatic mentor, with dry humour.Who said success came easily.
Those who dont recog & appre his stds & expectations are nearsighted, lack motivation & expect things to come easy.Dr Deyo is like a gold mine - seek & ask & u shall receive. If u dont put in the effort,ur losing out alot (not just academically).
a very good teacher. very smart. the class is not easy though, be ready to work, and learn a lot when you take any of his classes. good class though.
He is by far the smartest teacher I have ever had, but his class can get kind of boring. If you read the chapters and take good notes, you will be good to go. I would recommend him highly.
Yeah you have to pay attention, but if you're taking a psych course that generally means you're interested in the topic...so no problems there. But he does crack some jokes and knows his stuff really well. He is a really good prof!
Lets just say that a C is an A in his gen. psych. class

He is very intelligent and you learn a lot, however the tests are a little hard. You get to drop your lowest test score so that helps. But if you are really interested in psych take him, he knows a lot!!
pretty boring, takes his job way too seriously
Deyo is a very imitating teacher at first, but after awhile once you get used to him, you find he’s a pretty nice guy and likes to make some jokes occasionally. Not a bad class, he’s a really smart guy and he knows what he is talking about so listen to hi
Excellent prof. in a gen-ed mega-section. Probably even better in elective courses. Dr. Deyo is a neuro-psychiatrist, so his sections have more appeal to science majors.

I really enjoyed this class. The lectures were interesting and I did not have to put much effort into the class to get an A. Recommended!
Excellent Teacher, he cares about his students. Class can be hard at times, but thats to let students reach their potentials.
Very hot-tempered, and seemed thoroughly annoyed with having to teach this particular class. Also had a hard time dumbing down to his student's level.
He is very arrogent and tells you he is smarter then you. Gives you homework not suited for your gen ed class. He makes me hate school
I think he is a very poor teacher. He doesn't teach to the general level. He does not explain things clear enough and moves on before anyone understands. He makes this class very frusterating and unclear and I hate it!!
Very confusing Jumps from one thing to another. Can easily get lost in that class. Not what I expected at all. The book is on a cd too which is crappy. I wouldn't recommend this class by Deyo to my worst enemy!!!
Class is not fun at all. Deyo is to into his experiments to teach the basics.
Every one is way to harsh on him. He is probally one of the smartest professors every. I think alot of people are intimidated by him, but hes a good teacher and a really nice person. He'll always answer your questions. And if your into the smart geeky type, he hot too.
I have deyo for both gen psych, and psych stats. He is a very good prof. Yes, he can be intimidating, but dont be scared. Assignments can seem like you have a lot to do but once you actually do them they aren't that bad. Go in during office hours, he is very helpful.
He's extremely smart & VERY helpful. His tests can be really easy if you study for them and take the practice quiz on the CD you have for a book.I highly recommend taking this class with him if you REALLY want 2 learn something about psychology. His experience and knowledge in this field is amazing.
An excellent professor! I would recommend him to anyone taking this course. His lectures are clear and informative. It takes a while to get used to his teaching style, and it is important to actually attend his classes, but you will learn a lot from the class. I always looked forward to it.
I think he is horrible!! Who are all of those famous psychology guys that everyone else knows?? Cause I dont know them!!! He NEVER talks about them!!! He is to wrapped up into all his experiements that he doesn't teach the fundimentals. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone!!!
Deyo is great. His lectures are very clear and also interesting. You need to attend class and pay attention to notes to do well on the exams however he is an enjoyable professor who gets straight to the point. The only negative is his limited office hours.
Deyo is an amazing teacher. He is very intelligent and knows exactly what he is talking about. You will know exactly what is on the tests by taking the practice exam on the CD. I look forward to class because the lectures are so interesting! If you don't like him, its just b/c you didn't study at all
can you say boooorrrrring! i fell asleep almost everyday. he's a smart guy with alot to tell the class. isn't too hard.
Honestly I didn't like him, and still don't. The first day of class he came in all cocky bragging about how great he is and telling us that most people were going to drop out and those that stay in were more than likely were going to fail. Thats not the way to start the school year.
Really easy to get an A if you don't skip class. There's a lot of info givin during class, but it's very interesting. He drops your lowest test - which can mean no final. His text book is a CD he wrote which is only $25.
Deyo's a great guy. He's really nice and very helpful. I'd recommend taking his class. He is very clear on your assignments and there are only like three. Study the practice exams and you will do great in the class. He is an intelligent guy too.
Deyo is very smart, and he knows his stuff. His lectures can be long at times, but his tests are exactly the same questions from the practice quizzes on your Cd-Rom. It's and easy A if you pay attention and do your work. I highly recommend him!
He knows his stuff and I like how he actually has us learn the physiological aspect of psych, not just random psychologists. Pay attention, do your work and DO THE STUDY GUIDE ON THE TEXTBOOK CD! its pretty easy and I suggest you to get to know your neurotransmitters.
He is the biggest jerk I have ever had as a teacher. He has no respect for his students he is just wrapped up in his own business. He's very smart, but he can't teach. Don't take any of his classes.
Excellent prof. He lectures on exactly what you need to know for the class. GO TO CLASS! Likes essay questions with precise, detailed answers. Know the basics well and a few specifics very well. Textbooks are helpful to his lectures. Usually has too much going on and is hard to get a hold of.
Prof. Deyo seems really hard at first but he actually is not. He lays out everything that you need to know on his cd and you don't have to worry about reading through a ton of material that you will never need. He is straight to the point. Likes teaching more in depth classes then gen psych.
BEST PROF. EVER HAD! Lectures are VERY intensive and interesting. Attendance IS a must to learn BUT worth it! Exams are pretty easy: take study guides on CD (that's right, NO BOOK!) and you'll know 85% of questions on the exams. My favorite class: HIGHLY recommend him!
hes really smart, but sometimes over my head. his writing is scribbles and is hard to read, notes are very unorganized but your book is on CD and has chapter study guides which are nice. the tests get easier as the semester goes on. decent teacher, i heard miene is better...
Very intresting teacher.. first two test were a lil hard but not bad after that.. you must show up to class everyday.. and during the first few months.. read lectures before class and do the questions it asks.. u will get extra credit
very easy course.i even missed class alot. just do the study guides. he will tell you not to do them over and over, but i did anyways and you'll find they are on the test. some questions are changed, so i advise you to know your stuff, but it's so easy. and he's so interesting. i learned a lot.
Awesome class. The study guide is the test with a few questions added. The first test I didn't do the study guide..but then after that it was easy. I skipped class quite often and still managed to get an A because he drops a test at the end. Very easy take as a gen. ed. or a pre-requisite. He is very smart and will teach you a lot.
DEYO WAS THE BEST PROFESSOR I EVER HAD! his book is on CD which rocks because its only the stuff we need to know and not a lot of useless reading. He is very helpful and cares a lot about the students. Very good teacher try to take him!!
He's an excellent teacher, but would rather do research. He's a busy man and commits to MUCH more than he can handle. 05-06 he's gone on sabbatical to write a Brain & Behavior textbook. To get him to get anything done (other than normal classwork) you
he is a hard prof, but he is very smart and very interesting- and willing to help if you go and talk to him!
Most arrogant teacher I've ever had---has no time to be "bothered" with student needs--watch out!!!
Deyo is a decent instructor, but places way too much emphasis on research methods. This should be taught in higher level psych classes vs. entry level psychology. He is very willing to help students who are willing to try to do well, but is very busy. The class is tough for an entry level class. If you are willing to work you will learn alot.
Awesome class, awsome professor. It's a really interesting class.
Explains in detail, however his writing is a little messy at times.
He is very smart. I thought the class was really interesting. His tests are EASY if you go over the study guide and online tests he gives you. Im not good at taking tests, and got A's on his tests. Take him.
He focuses a lot on the physiology. However, he likes to make up facts...ex: esbestos doesn't give you cancer it is esb. mixed w/ the polio vacine that gives you cancer...total bs.. So it is hard to know if you should remember what he says or blow it off b/c it is total cr@p. Overall really easy class, he is quite arrogant as well
Deyo is decent. The class is more based on how the brain works then how people think and what affects that etc. It has a lot more science than I expected, so if you're good at science, take him. Also, he is very arrogant and not really willing to help students because he is a very busy man.
This man is an absolute genius! I really enjoyed his class. He was interesting and materials were taught that I would actuall need to know someday...not just names of psychologists and dates! You have to take your own notes, but the study guides contain a lot of questions that are on the test. Plus, cd textbook that's only $30!
He doesn't teach what he is suppose too. He goes into the physiology of the brain and not what the class suppose to teach.
He's a really good professor. The class covers a lot more a&p of the brain than most gen. psych classes do. He CAN come off as arrogant, but it's really not not in a bad way, and that's just b/c he really knows what he's doing. He's actually a pretty funny guy. If go in during office hours, he's REALLY helpful! I STRONGLY recommend taking Dr. Deyo.
The class is very interesting, but taught at an advanced level, not entry level. The class is very tough so make sure you study and take advantage of the practice tests. The instructor knows his stuff. Like I said it is interesting, but very tough to get the grade so make sure you don't slack or you will fail the class.
He's a VERY interesting teacher. He knows what he's talking about and is very passionate about it and it shows. His class is not easy however and EVERY test question comes from lecture - not from his textbook (which is simply a background on the material he covers in class)... attendance is ABSOLUTELY mandatory. Very interesting though - highly rec
Professor Deyo is so versatile in his discussions. He knows what he is talking about. Although, he is very particular with paperwork, I still say what he trying to do is very much helpful amongst the students. As long as you pay attention to his lecture and participate, you will pretty much get easy A's. His exam is pretty much straightforward.
Dr. Deyo is the COOLEST prof! he makes everything REALLY interesting and his tests are VERY straight forward, he tells you exactly what to look for. hes very fair and seems to actually care abt his students! if you try at all, you will do well! TAKE HIM!
Just go to class and listen to what he says. He does pretty much all the assignments for you! Also, his tests are based off the study guides. Really easy as long as you go and listen! Class ave on tests are bad because people are on computer during class messing around! He give extra credit too, which really helps!!
do NOT take PSYCH210 with him if you want to learn about the way people think, why we act the way we do, etc. All we talked about was different diseases & their treatments & the physiology of the brain. If I wanted to learn that, I would've taken A&P. Speaks VERY softly, terrible handwriting. An ok prof, just didn't cover what he should have.
Overall, this class is quite difficult. Deyo speaks very quietly and writes very sloppy, so it is sometimes hard to take notes. A lot of the concepts he teaches are hard. There is a lot of anatomy of the brain and other things I found quite boring. He basically does the assigments for you. there is really no out of class work.
This class was interesting, and I thought he was an okay professor throughout. He didn't explain things very well however, and I didn't fully understand many of the concepts he presented in class. During our final project, my partner and I tried asking him questions and he blew us off like we were dumb. I doubt I'd take him again.
I attended all classes and I tried to understand what he was saying. He likes it when people ask questions and answer his questions. Make sure you read the chapters and do the practice exams. I thought for sure I would fail, and I pulled off a C.
he is one of the smartest people i have ever met. The things you learn in his class are very interesting and deal with a lot of things you wouldnt normally learn in gen psych class. Some things are a little too in depth and tests are Hard. I would attend class regularly. And do the study guides because some of the questions are on the test.
Very smat guy, he knows his stuff! The content can be difficult, especially the brain BUT if you study your notes and use the study tools on the CD/book you should be ok. Also, GO TO CLASS! Lectures make up most tests, which are tough. Assignments are super easy, really bring up grades. Deyo is a nice guy who will help you, don't be intimidated!
Loved this class. Very Intelligent man, kind of intimidating at first. Tests are hard, but he drops your lowest one.i would recommend going every day. Very interesting class. Deals a lot with the brain, so if thats not your thing, dont take this class.
He knows what hes talking about really well. notes are hard to take in class because his handwriting is poor. tests are pretty hard. do well on the assignments and do the bonus quizzes offered. attendance is pretty mandatory because he explains the material much clearer than the book. i enjoyed him as a teacher though.
Learning. I had him for Brain and Behavior too. Deyo is a real genius! His classes aren't easy but in 4 years he's the only one I ever learned anything from that didn't come straight out of the textbook. Everything else in college was a waste of my time.
The tests are super hard, I studied for hours and still did horrible. I would not recommend Deyo if you are taking this for a general. Hiis tests are impossible,I studied for hours and still did horrible. study the study guides some questions come right of there. I dont recommend him, I got a C and was not happy.
TAKE HIM! Best prof ive had. Writing on the board is a bit hard to read but he is happy to repeat and make sure you understand. VERY helpful and makes the class sooo interesting! if you can..get him as a teacher!!
I LOVE prof. Deyo, he is one of the best professors!at WSU If you care about learning you will love him because he teaches you SO much and he really knows what he's talking about. I don't know why anyone thinks this class is hard. He gives extra credit (I have over 100%) and what to study is right in the book. He also drops your low test score!
No, this class is not a breeze, but it is one worth taking. Deyo is a genius and Winona is lucky to have him. The class is a little challenging but you should do well because it is so interesting. do yourself a favor and take any class Deyo teaches!
Dr. Deyo is a great teacher. If you are remotely interested in Psych you should take him. Probably the smartest guy at that university. Drops your low test, gives extra credit, and tests are the same as practice tests. KNOWS what hes talking about and is a very interesting guy.
Had him for General and Neuroscience. Awesome prof- one of best I've had. Very smart guy!! Can be intimidating because he doesn't like people to waste his time, but he is very helpful if you show interest and participate!! Must go to lecture!!
The dude is legit but he is such hard grader. He gave one of my buddies a -1 out of 50 on one of his papers haha. Listen (sometimes hes confusing) and study.
Awesome professor. Really fun and intelligent. Hates talking during class when you're not supposed to. Sit close the front, it's hard to hear him and read his handwritting on the board when you are in the back. I would recommend the first 2 rows
I learned so much from him. He keeps everything to the point. There are questions on his exam that are the same word-by-word that appear on the study guides!! His tests will not surprise you when you do the study guides. The final is the easiest of all his tests.
Deyo is an awesome professor! He will yell at students and kick them out if they are being disrespectful. Have to attend class to understand the material. Drops the lowest test which helps ALOT. Need to study alot but the material is really interesting! Not an easy class but learn alot, you can get a good grade if you study and LISTEN/take notes!
Brain and Behavior. GREAT class... and Deyo is super interesting! He always teaches you the most interesting parts of everything and knows how to keep your attention. Attendance is 100% mandatory. Topics are a little more intense than most classes this level are, so make sure to study and definitely stay attention in class!!
Very concise, explains well, occasional humor, willing to help outside of class. Somewhat strict but expectations not unreasonable.
Prof. Deyo is an amazing professor. He is passionate about the material and really knows what he is talking about. He genuinely cares about students and is very willing to help. He is tough though and you are expected to work hard and attend class. You will learn a lot. Take him if you have the opportunity!
good teacher. average teaching style. if your having trouble go in because he is really helpful and believes all students have the ability to get an A in the class. Rumors are that he doesnt like teaching intro to psych cuz he is too good for teaching an intro course...
Deyo is a difficult teacher and flies through material, but if you go to class (essential) and pay attention it's pretty easy to get a good grade. Assignments boost your grade and he offers like 20 extra credit points, so if you don't do so hot on tests you'll be fine. He also lets you drop your lowest test. He makes his own CD book- kinda weird.
If you don't talk to others in class or spend the whole class online, you will get an A in this class. Deyo knows his stuff and he's a great guy, very straight forward. An A is very attainable if you take the practice exams and pay attention in class.
very technical. Its hard to learn when he flys through material. Sit close to the board...his handwriting is small even if you sit up front. MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE IS OFF OR ON SILENT. (he flips out if it goes off)!! I felt like this class was not an intro class, but an advanced class. has an online CD book that he made which runs about $33. Average.
i loved this class, it was probably the most interesting class ive ever taken. Deyo is VERY knowledgeable about the material, honestly i dont know why he's teaching at winona. He is also VERY helpful during office hours. Take this class, cant recommend highly enough. (but make sure your cell is off, he gets scary! lol)
He is a smart guy, but his version of a psych class is difficult. It is more about brain disorders than psychology. It almost felt like a medical class. He uses an e-book that he wrote himself. For me, the tests were difficult because he wrote the notes so fast and sloppy (still uses a chalkboard). Good guy, but too difficult a course for me.
Great Prof. Read the book, go to class, take the practice exams and this class will be a breeze. Have your phone off or he will flip. Tests are straight forward with the information he gives you. Listen take good notes and this class will be very easy. Very interesting. Best class ever!
This is by far the worst class I've taken at WSU. Deyo expects way too much for a 150 class. He flies through the material & when you go to him for extra help he acts like it's an imposition to help out his students. He is very intelligent and he knows it. He might be a better professor in an upper level class but I wouldn't recommend for an Intro.
hard for an intro class. he expects way too much. Very inapproachable to ask questions. He is very smart, and he shows it. he said the last test (final) would be the easiest one (was optional) and thats why i took it, to get my grade up. But it was really hard even though i studied. i would take with someone else.
The most intelligent person I have ever met! Extremely interesting and makes you want to listen!! Loved him!!
every topic we went over made me have greasy, bubbly farts. I was to busy focusing on my gases too much to pay attention every day. I read the whole book tho, which got me an A.
I had Deyo for Stats, and while he is a good teacher and you'll learn something he has some personality issues. If you don't show up to class don't expect respect from, and don't even try to email him because he might flame you and tell you to drop the class. Other than that, the course work and tests weren't too bad except for the final.
Deyo ROCKS!!! He is way too smart to be teaching intro psych classes. The class is pretty easy, but you CAN NOT miss class. He uses his own textbook, which is awesome because the chapters are not long at all and then you know exactly the information he wants you to know. He keeps it interesting. An A is for sure possible.
He is very very smart and so he expects a lot from the students. His tests are alright if you study your butt off...it would probably help if you didn't procrastinate! If you have questions just go to him during his office hours and he will tell you exactly what you want to know which was very helpful! Attend all of the classes and take notes!
Dr. Deyo is a very intelligent man. Anything he says, he usually has a legitimate source to back it up. His teaching is pretty accelerated. You must understand the book, and go to his class every time to get an A in this class. His class setting is very professional, and not much fun at all. You also get to drop your lowest test,
Deyo is really intelligent. His lectures are actually interesting. Use the study guides in the book and study! It's not difficult to get an A. Don't miss his class or email him ever. He doesn't accept sickness as an excuse to miss class.
I would reccomend this teacher to anyone! He was awesome and always willing to help! The class taught me a lot and I would love to take him again for any psych class!
I love Professor Deyo. He is very smart, passionate, and good at what he does, however, he does not rub it in your face like most of the professors do here. He is always available on the side for extra help, and it is just a great class. I have/will continue suggesting him to people who need psychology classes. He's great.
Very interesting classes but he talks too fast & doesn't care about his students. I was in the hospital for a failing liver & he told me I could fail or drop the class because he wasn't going to let me make anything up or help me in any way.
Prof. Deyo is probably one of the smartest professors you'll ever meet. He provides great backstories and useful information. Make sure you read and take notes and you'll do fine on the tests. If you do well on the first three tests and assignments you won't have to do anything for the last month of classes or take the final.
This class is impossible. There are only 4 assignments to get your grade up followed by the hardest tests known to man. He is really smart and knows what he's talking about and you can learn a lot, but if you're looking for a good grade avoid this class.
Deyo is an amazing prof! He's so smart, but he wants you to understand rather then just shoving it all in your face. Class attendance is a MUST. Be prepared to work hard for the grade you want. Not an easy class, but definitely worth taking if you're willing to work hard.
He is a very smart teacher and taught me a lot. As long as you go to class and read to material you should be fine. A lot people on here said he doesn't like to help students but he helped me and was very nice about it.
He is a very intelligent man, but impossible to learn from. He talks very fast and quiet. To do good on his tests you need to memorize every word he says. He also has a temper. Before class a few kids were talking and before class even started he swore at us and kicked us all out. This was the day of our only assignment, so no one got points.
His class is easy if you listen, read the e-book and take notes during lecture. He has high expectations; don't dare to take out your phone or talk while he is, he will explode. However, his lectures are interesting and his tests aren't horrible. I learned a lot and I really enjoyed his class.
I'm really confused about some of the negative reviews. Deyo is great! This is one of the few courses I've taken at WSU that I've truly learned A LOT from. He also gives many extra credit opportunities so, at the end, if you are doing well, you won't even have to do the last assign.! He always keeps the class interested. I highly recommend him.
was a really great class! would definitely recommend to take! He is SO smart and really knows what he is talking about. DO NOT talk when he's talking, he will freak! but tests were pretty easy, read the e-book and take notes in class and you'll do fine. And he's more than willing to answer questions. Learned a lot in the class, really enjoyed it!
He is amazingly smart. His lectures are full of a stuff he knows off hand. Tests arent bad, plus there's assignments and EC to help. He is sort of anal/strict, but it didn't bother me because a lot of college students are lazy so he has motives. I never went to his office so I don't know how he is one on one. If you want to learn alot, take him.
I had Dr. Deyo for Brain& Behavior. LOVED this class! Deyo gives you a textbook he made (very well made). Just LISTEN to what Deyo tells you (i.e. do what he tells you when to do it! Do the practice test material B4 YOUR TESTS!) Also, READ the chapter before he lectures on it (he likes it if you can contribute to the discussions).
Smartest professor at Winona State. Very helpful in and out of the classroom.
Prof. Deyo not only knows his material but he can keep a 2 hour class going without it getting dull or dragging. He was nothing but kind to me when I asked questions or talked to him outside of class but I never chatted in class which you can probably gather he hates. Take him and learn a lot.
Deyo is an outstanding professor. Class is mandatory and I actually looked forward to attending is lecture. Tests are challenging, but as long as you take good notes in class and study you will do great!
So far my favourite teacher here at Winona. At first I thought he would be horrible because he sent out this email at the beginning of the year saying class was mandatory and he would ignore any emails or phone calls from students even if they needed help (he expects you to do business in person) but in the end I was so happy I took him. Easy A :)
Professor Deyo is by far my favorite professor at Winona State. I didn't think this at first because he was so strick on his rules. But, he did a super good job at teaching letures and was always open to answering questions and meeting with students. Although not being able to contact him via email was hard it was worth meeting with him in person.
Deyo is one of the smartest teachers ever, maybe even too smart! His classes are some of the best I've taken. Go to class and read the book and you'll be fine. Great teacher!
Deyo is an incredibly intelligent man who is always willing to help. I thoroughly enjoyed having psychology with him and looked forward to his class. Hour and twenty minute lectures with extra credit opportunities. Attendance is mandatory but honestly enjoyable. READ THE CORRESPONDING CHAPTER PRIOR TO ATTENDING CLASS. Cannot stress this enough.
This professor is awesome! He is extremely smart and very helpful. He seems intimidating, but he is really cool. He made the book for this class and the activities and practice quizzes within the book are very helpful. Read the book, do the practice activities, and listen to him and you will do great! Probably the best professor on campus!
Dont do it, he's a smart man with a temper and you will only pass if you remember exactly everything he says! not very clear on what to study. His book does not help.
Deyo is phenomenal. He is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. His class is beyond interesting and so applicable to life. He offers substantial extra credit and allows you to drop an exam. Exams are online. Read the chapter before class, take excellent notes, study in advance for tests. A's is definitely achievable.
Deyo is insanely smart. He knows what he is talking about and makes it understandable. The tests are sort of Hard but not terrible. Sometimes he goes through information very fast and it is hard to keep up but overall a great professor.
My favorite professor so far. Stays on topic, engages students, has a good sense of humor, and encourages participation. I would definitely recommend his classes. He will not waste your time in class.
Deyo is a great professor. He is so intelligent and you actually learn something from this class. He has strict guidelines and class is mandatory, but he gives a lot of extra credit oppurtunities. I definitely recommend taking him!
Deyo is a good professor but he expects you to learn quickly and a lot of information. I took this class as a gen ed and wish I would've taken something easier because this is much harder than I expected. If you have knowledge of information you may do better.
By far the smartest man on campus. He is such a great teacher and is willing to help you with anything and everything. I've never heard a person complain about his class. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
Literally the smartest guy I've ever met. I had his class for an hour and 20 mins and enjoyed every minute of it. The class is so interesting that its intensity is worth it.
One of my favorite professors on campus. He has a pasion for what he teaches and he will always help you if you ask. Tests can be a little difficult but as long as you study, you should do fine. Pay attention in class, attend S2I sessions, and ask questions. By far my favorite class this semester.
Deyo does not care about his students' success nor is he helpful. Does not read student e-mails or talk before or after class. You must meet him during a 1 hour period in his office. His book is ridiculous and not helpful. He knows what he is suppose to teach but teaches it horribly. I do NOT recommend this professor at all.
By far my favorite teacher at WSU. Clearly passionate about psychology. Uses great examples. Textbook is on a cd and is cheep, very easy, helpful to use. All information for the course is on cd. If you go to class and take notes and read the short reading before the test then you will get an A. I learned a lot! Also don't use cellphone in class
The best class I have taken. Dr. Deyo is crazy helpful. His lectures are so interesting and he always has great explanations of everything!
Deyo is my favorite professor by far. He is willing to help if you take the time to go and talk with him. He is crazy passionate about what he teaches and you can tell by his brilliant lectures.
Dr. Deyo is really fantastic at making a lecture interesting and of value to you as an individual in this class. He takes the (I think) boring topic of history and really turns it into something you can learn from while making decisions for your own future career. He is also very helpful during office hours if you have any questions or need help!
Professor Deyo is Awesome! He goes into great detail on the material in his book, and book has study guide for possible test questions to understand the material better and know what to expect come test time. Always willing to help and talk to after class and during his office hours! TAKE HIM!
one of the smartest guys on campus. Really knows his stuff and is passionate about it. He is older but also has a sense of humor. Made class interesting and as long as you pay attention class is easy. Drops the lowest test score so final is optional. 4 test with 3 assignments. Book is 10 dollars because he wrote it.
At first a I hated him but then he grew on me. He's extremely intelligent and he's great to listen to. I would take him again in a heartbeat. He drops the lowest test score, so if you do well you don't have to take the final. Strongly recommend. If you want to do well on the tests, come to class. The textbook is life.
Deyo is one of my favorite professors of all time. He really knows psychology and puts on a very interesting lecture. If you listen to him, you'll realize how smart he is. Also cracks some pretty funny jokes a few times every lecture. Tests are very doable if you read his book (yes he wrote his own book), and final exam is easy. Highly rec'd.
Deyo is very intimidating at first, and it's true that he doesn't put up with crap, so just be respectful, do the readings, ask questions when you have them, and take advantage of the practice quizzes and flashcards in the textbook and you should get an A. He's extremely intelligent and he's an incredible teacher with great lectures.
Deyo is by far my favorite professor on campus. He's super intelligent and know what he's talking about. He connects lectures to real life and gives tons of examples to go off of. Read the textbook and do the flash cards and multiple choice questions and you'll get an A. If you miss class you'll miss a ton of information because he goes over a lot.
Deyo comes off as a tough guy but after the first week he mellows quite a bit. You must attend class regularly to pass. Tests are often written hard so you will have to spend quite a lot of time studying the material if you want to get a good grade.
Dont mess around. Also, leave your cell phones at home or in your dorm cause you'll get kicked out if it goes off. Also, do not offer the people that you sit by in class a piece of gum mid-lecture because you will also get kicked out of class for "distracting the class".
I sincerely believe Dr. Deyo is one of the smartest professors at this university. He is extremely knowledgeable about psychology and explains the topics with the utmost clarity. I would absolutely recommend.
His class is really challenging, but if you study prior class you will be just fine.
Deyo is a great Professor who gives tons of extra credit, his lectures are incredible and teach you everything you need to know. He is extremely knowledgeable and helpful to you. He can be intimidating but if you just talk to him he is super nice and helpful.
Second-favorite professor I had this semester. Very good at explaining concepts and manages to keep lectures interesting. Lets you drop your lowest test score so if you keep up with the content you don't even have to take the final! Would recommend for anyone who has to take General Psych.
Read the chapters, attend s2i and listen during class and you'll do fine. Use an online book which has study guides that are extremely helpful. Most of the test questions come straight from that. You also drop your lowest test score. Deyo knows what he's talking about! I would take him again!
Definitely a smart guy, really loves the material and offered great lectures. Also has a good sense of humor. Tries to put out this gruff demeanor, but actually he was quite kind and really seems to enjoy students. Do the reading, pay attention in lecture; you will get an A if you work. The graded projects were really fun too.
By far my favorite professor on campus. His classes are challenging so do not expect to slide by, however, he is a great instructor and will do whatever he can to help you understand the material as long as you put in the work. If you're looking to learn a lot, take his classes!
Hes the smartest person I've ever met period. Tests are very hard, make sure you read the text before class otherwise you won't know whats going on
Dr. Deyo by far is one of my favorite psychology professors. He is so smart and is willing to help you out. If taking neuroscience be warned it is a heavy load class and he does not believe in power points for this class so if you miss class you are out of luck so do not miss. You have about 5 papers in that class, a lab and a atlas plus 4 exams.
Okay, the tests are EXTREMELY hard, like unnecessarily hard. He is rude and strict. Gives too much information for an Into class.
Exams are very, very, difficult! He tries to say that the last two exams are the easiest but they definitely are not! Would NOT recommend.
Deyo is probably the worst professor I have ever had, his teaching style is all over the place. He will write a few words on the board, there are no notes, study guides, or anything. The online textbook we use, he wrote himself. He is way too intelligent for a intro class. I would highly recommend avoiding him as a psych professors at all costs.
He is the smartest person I've ever met! Extremely passionate about what he teaches. His tests are pretty hard but if you go to s2i (study sessions with his assistant) you'll do just fine! I loved this class and learned so much! For sure one of my favorite profs. Plus he's really funny!! I for sure recommend this class!
Richard Deyo is awesome. After every class period you leave the room mind blown at what you've just learned. He is so smart and very serious about wanting his students to actually learn the material. This is not a class that you can be lazy in but he does let you drop your lowest test score and his study sessions are wildly helpful.
Dr. Deyo is a great choice to take. He explains things in great detail. The textbook for psy210 is super short, but very useful. He goes in more depth in class, so don't skip. His teaching style actually makes you want to show up to class and hear what he has to say for the day. Dr. Deyo is a great professor, highly recommend him to everyone!!
He is easily the best Psychology instructor at Winona State. He expects a lot from his students, so if you're not willing to work than don't bother taking his class. He taught at medical schools and he's actually passionate about what he teaches so of course he'll sound like he knows a lot - it's because he does! He is truly phenomenal!
Really interesting class, it's clear he knows his stuff and is passionate about it, and he offers a lot of opportunities. I want to say the class/material was difficult, but his grading/tests were rather easy. I felt the material went over my head numerous times in class, but I somehow finished with over 100% so idk. Definitely recommend!
He does an amazing job at keeping your attention and relating the materials to your own life. His class was simply too hard for me. I had never taken a psychology class before even in high school. He couldn't seem to dumb down the information enough for me to understand. Just make sure to tutor or go to study groups if you take a class with him.
Professor Deyo takes notes on the chalkboard during class and only repeats himself once. So in my opinion if you miss something he says or didn't get everything written down before he erased it, it is very hard to understand.
Deyo is the best professor that I have ever had. I have taken 3 of his classes and have never regretted it. He knows his stuff and he cares for his students (even if he seems flustered and busy). BEST PROF
This was a very difficult class, if you have a hard time hearing soft spoken people he is not for you. He also uses the chalk board for notes and NEVER repeats himself. Go to S2I if you can. Make sure you are staying on top of studying well in advance before the exams because they're hard. Need to read the textbook before the start of each unit.
Dr. Deyo is by far one of the greatest psychology professors I have ha . I have had the privilege to be able to take almost every class he has taught. He expects a lot out of his students so work hard. He may seemed rushed and flustered at times but you have to remember he is a busy guy. I would recommend taking any of Professor. Deyo's classes.
Deyo made you work for your grade, but it was worth it. I learned more in that psych class than any previously taken. He is soft spoken to the point where I had to sit in the front. Make sure you attend class every day to not fall behind. Also, USE THE TEXTBOOK PRACTICE FLASHCARDS. The test is almost identical to the flashcards/quiz questions.
Deyo is absolutely wonderful. He is loaded with information, so be ready to write at 70mph. Even if you miss something you can always go back to him, ask and he will be more than willing to help. Don't skip class! Just don't do it. This is a great class if you like the science side of psychology, such as neuroanatomy and clinical lab trials.
Absolute jerk. Would not recommend. Since he is so "smart," he acts like he is better than you.
Be respectful and kind to him and he will to you. He can be your best friend or your worst nightmare, depending on how much you put forward. He has very little assignments and gives a lot of extra credit, but you need to WORK to do well on the exams. Very lecture heavy but he's really passionate and heavily acclaimed about the field.
Dr. Deyo is an amazing professor for Intro to Psych ( I have not taken any of his other classes, but I would like to!). As long as you use the study resources (flash cards and multiple choice) given in the text book and show up to classes/ S2I it is not difficult to achieve a good grade!
Professor Deyo is one of my favorite professors at Winona State. He really knows what he is teaching, and I have never learned more in one class. Attendance is necessary since he lectures. He incorporates videos along with following an online text book. Tests are hard, but this class is SO worth it. I will be taking more classes with him.
Dr. Deyo is probably the smartest guy you will meet. He's not only super smart, but he can communicate his knowledge really well and make it easy for a small-minded child like me to understand what he is saying. You do need to put in a little bit of work to get a good grade, but overall it's manageable and Deyo will help you to be successful.
Professor Deyo has done years of research for psychology and has a passion for it. His lectures are packed full of interesting information. Go to every class and do the extra credit once he allows it. It helped me go from a B to an A. Make sure to read the chapters when he assigns then, they arent long and help you understand what he talks about.
Strict but fair. Very reputable; he knows a lot of people and has done extensive research in pharmacology, psychology, and neuroscience. He's even written his own textbook. Do not piss him off; you do not want to get on his bad side (Keep your phone OFF always and in your backpack), ESPECIALLY if you have plans for graduate school. Brilliant guy.
LOVE THIS CLASS! Lectures are always very interesting and keep you awake! The extra credit points can change your grade a lot. Instead of getting a B on my first exam, one extra credit thing I did boosted me up to an A! The first test is the hardest so do not let that discourage you! He even lets you drop your lowest exam grade! GO TO S2I!
He is passionate about what he teaches. He sometimes moves fast but he is willing to go back and clarify things if you ask.
Dr. Deyo's teaching ability is good. He is very knowledgeable and can teach well. However, in my 4 years at WSU, I have never met a more heartless professor. Dr. Deyo seems to feed off of making others feel inferior. I never been more insulted and humiliated by the way Dr. Deyo has treated me, and have filed a formal complaint against him. AVOID!
Smart guy but has a very short temper. His Intro to Psych class is more of an Anatomy of the Brain class. He gets angry easily and yelled at students multiple times in front of the class, and once cancelled class early after getting too angry to teach over something very minor. I learned a lot in this class, but do not recommend due to his temper.
There is a ton of extra credit and he lets you drop your lowest exam!! My friends psych profs seem easier test wise but it doesn't even matter because you get so much ec.
Go to class because attendance matters. Don't use your phone, you'll get kicked out. Can be hard, but just read the book and go to s2i.
Very knowledgeable and direct. Drop exam and E.C. available. Will not respond to emails-- talk to him after class or during office hours. Turn OFF your phone before walking in the door. He will kick you out if it makes a peep. Don't be that person-- you're paying to be there and so are others.
He is a very smart guy and actually knows what he is talking about which is awesome, but he'll get mad for small things and kick you out of class (or even the whole entire class). He is also a pretty quiet talker so if you can't hear that well, maybe sit towards the front of the room.
Brain and Behavior (Now called Intro to Neuroscience) with Dr. Deyo was the best class I took this semester! Dr. Deyo is caring and is not a hard grader; he really tries to make sure everyone does well and gets A's, or at least B's. He knows a lot about psychology and neuroscience, and shares a lot of information since he is so passionate about it!
The class is very interesting! Dr. Deyo is very knowledgeable and wants the students to succeed to the best of their abilities. Show up to class and take good notes.
He is one of the most knowledgeable professors I've ever had! He is very picky about students messing around in his class so no side chatter and texting otherwise he might kick you or the entire class out. Lots of extra credit! It was super easy to get an A but you can't skip this class!
He is extremely knowledgeable but also patient if you don't know what's going on.
Deyo is an amazing teacher and really wants you to understand his lessons. He really does make you work for it though so be prepared to study quite often, and read and take notes!
I really enjoyed his class. I had him for intro to psychological science & had S2i which was very helpful. His lectures are very interesting but they get extremely confusing & sometimes I felt super lost. Dr. Deyo hates cell phones & any distractions while he is lecturing. Lots of extra credit and is a great professor overall. Would take again.
Dr. Deyo is one of the most knowledgeable professors I have ever had. His tests are kinda hard but he gives you study guides and review quizzes to prepare. He also gives out so much extra credit so take advantage of it. Also side note, if you can't hear very well sit near the front as he speaks super quietly.
Dr. Deyo is one of the best professors I have had at WSU. He is extremely knowledgable about the subject matter and genuinely wants to see his students succeed. He can be intimidating at first but he is very caring and kind. It's hard not to really respect him-- which is great because it will make you want to work harder in his classes.
Deyo is literally amazing. He made every single lecture so interesting to listen to. It is very important to come to class. He also gave over 50 points of extra credit.
I never found the class to be super difficult. I got high Cs/ low Bs on all of the tests but he gave so much extra credit and in class assignments that I was able to get an A. Lectures are always interesting, make sure you sit in the front for he tends to mumble a little bit.
Tests/projects are somewhat hard, but he drops lowest score of four tests. There is LOTS of extra-credit offered. It's not hard to get an A in this class, but to truly understand the material takes a bit of work. The textbook is straightforward, but read the chapter BEFORE lecture. While quiet, Deyo cares a lot and will help you if you ask.
His lectures are so interesting and I loved attending his class! My favorite prof so far! He gives out so much extra credit that allowed me to get As on all of my exams. Go to class, take notes, read the chapter (they are not long at all) and you will pass easily. Highly suggest Deyo!
attendance isn't mandatory but I would recommend not skipping because you will end up missing a lot. He lectures the whole time and there is a lot of information. you should read the chapters before he lectures about them in class because you will be confused if you don't. tests weren't too hard but there are questions he only mentioned in class
Dr. Deyo seems to be a nice person, but a strict teacher. His lectures are mandatory because all material on the tests comes from his lectures. Beware, the material on the tests do not always match with what he talked about so you have to do deeper studying outside of class.
Dr. Deyo was an okay professor. His lectures were so boring and it was hard to pay attention. A lot of his material was about the anatomy of the brain rather than Psychology. If you skip class it would be detrimental to your test score. However, he gives out a lot of extra credit.
Dont take this professor, if you ever have to quarantine hell tell you to drop the class. Hes rude.
I took his 303 and 210. He uses a lot of examples to help you connect with the material. His exams are pretty straightforward as long as you attend class. Take notes and review them a few times you should do well. He was super helpful when I had COVID and worked with me to get exams made-up. He's a bit strict, but he's super nice& genuinely cares.
Deyo gives COUNTLESS extra credit options both outside of exams and on exams. You must go to class, lectures are the basis of the information on exams. No cumulative final exam, just unit exams. Super easy class if you do the extra credit and pay attention to lectures.
I had Professor Deyo for OR and he was amazing! He makes great connections and had great lectures! He is also great at communicating outside of class!
This was just an orientation class, so nothing too special or anything. I just though Dr. Deyo is such an interesting and kind guy that I had to give him a good rating. I can see how he might be a difficult grader or prof in other courses, but he really just wants to see students succeed. He cares about people, and you can tell! Overall he's great!
This professor knows what he is talking about and the way he explains things is easy to understand.
Deyo is the BEST professor at WSU. He's extremely passionate about what he teaches and has plenty of personal stories that relate to what you learn in class. There are LOTS of easy extra credit opportunities. Take good notes during lectures and you will get an A on his exams. Take every class you can with Deyo, you won't regret it!
Deyo is seriously awesome. I was incredibly scared to take neuroscience, but he made it so easy to understand. His lectures are very engaging, and really made me think through the content. The only things in the grade book are the few labs and 3 exams, but he offers so much extra credit! Show up to class, pay attention, and you'll get an A!
I took 308 and 309 with Deyo. It was interesting and helped drill APA style into my brain, however the work load was insane. We had several huge labs, assignments, debates, and create our own thesis to write and present in front of the class with little instruction. He was very helpful if you asked him questions about anything which helped a lot.
Literally the best class i've ever taken at Winona State, plus you don't have to buy a textbook because he wrote the textbook :)
I have never been more grateful for a teacher in my entire college career. He does give difficult assignments, but you learn so much them that is more then worth the work you have to put in to complete them. I would not be going to graduate school if it were not for him.
I took neuroscience with Dr. Deyo and I personally thought he was great. The class is hard, but it's neuroscience, it is going to be hard. You MUST go to lectures in order to do well. If you pay attention in class and do the review/study guides he posts, you will do just fine on the exams. Plus, he offers quite a bit of extra-credit. Great prof!
Dr. Deyo is a very passionate professor, you can tell he cares deeply about his work and it shows in class. His classes are very difficult and you will need to study outside of class but he will make things interesting.
Deyo's class can be challenging, but with a mix of lecture attendance, textbook reading, and using unstuck study ai for study prep, you can excel. His tests focus on in-class material, so don't skip lectures. Overall, a rewarding learning experience.
Coolest guy I've ever met. One of my favorite professors, a pity he doesn't teach more classes. Rewarding lectures. You will not fail as long as you try. And maybe try again. Tons of extra credit.
Deyo is the best professor I have ever had. I was terrified to take neuroscience but Deyo made every concept easy to understand and I looked forward to lecture. Projects were so helpful in understanding the material and he was very accessible outside of class. He answered every question thoroughly and made sure everyone understood before moving on.
Genuinely wants his students to succeed. Has his own “textbook” for free. Will not respond to emails which I understand for questions about concepts, but it's a bit inconvenient if something unexpected happens on a lab day and you can't talk to him. He made some offensive jokes around the topics of mental health that didn't sit right with me.
Had him for OR, really funny guy who shows students how to prepare for college if you're a first year. Theres only three assignments, do a 1:1 meeting with him, go to 1 psych club meeting, and make a career plan. Very easy and only met like 5 times the whole semester. I would take him again.
I loved this class. He is genuinely a great professor and cares about his students' success. He offers lots of opportunities for extra credit. Exams are tough but if you show up to lecture and take the time to study you will do good! He makes lecture fun and memorable. I would definitely take a class with him again!
Deyo is the Best PSY professor I've met. He is funny like a professor should be, takes serious things seriously, and is capable of breaking down even the most complex topics to a caveman. He does emphasize the neurology/physiology side of PSY much more than others and will grill you if you say/do bs, but lock in, and he's got you all day. 10/10
