Richard Dickson was a very easy english teacher. He assigns simple papers, and only grades the final draft after telling you how to change your paper. It was an easy grade if you followed his expectations, which he clearly explains in class. Overall an easy grade if you show up.

Dr. Dickson keeps the class interesting. He seems to genuinely care about the students and is passionate about his subject. It's not an easy class as there is there is a lot of work, but it is one of the better ones.

Rarher good, it is challenging to attend class when it is at seven in the morning.

Dickson was rather hard. I thought this course was challenging but ended up getting a overall good grade. He wants an academic writer, if you can't write good and want an easy A don't take him. Ps i hate watching him lecture! Hes so boring, he puts me to sleep all the time

He was a nice guy, good sense of humor, but not the easiest in the world. Class was managable, but got kind of hard when we got to the poetry section. Be prepared to write lots of essays and make sure to attend most classes.

He is a good guy, very helpful. A lot of writting though, but there are no tests at all, only essay's every week. He is working very hard to make a great writters from us. He is looking at the sentence structure and using active verbs. I would suggest you to come to class every time. In general it was a hard class for me. Good luck to all you ;-)

Dr. ****son is GREAT! He is very helpful and easy going. His lectures were clear, though advanced composition structure and technique can be a little hard to sit through. But listen closely enough and he slips in humorous remarks here and there. He's serious about creating better writers. No tests; all essays w/ as many rewrites as needed.

Dr ****son is a great teacher and amazing person. I loved going to his classes even though he only has pretty early ones. He will help you how ever he can and really seems to care about his students. His essays arent the easiest topics but if you do the reading and work at your writing you will do good. The book is no required i got through the sem

****son's class is not easy. That said, he is an excellent teacher and REALLY knows what he's talking about. He is very demanding on his essays and expects a lot out of you. But if you really work at it you will learn a LOT, and he will always see you if you have a problem, and he wants you to do good. he demands a lot but he's a great teacher.

I had this professor for ENC 1101 and 1102, my writing has improved significantly. His class is easy going, his essays are clear and he lets you rewrite them and turn them in a couple of time so that your essay improves. He is the best English teacher I have ever had!

I took him for tech communications. He is passionate about writing,therefore makes you write, A LOT. However, he gives you many opportunities to revise your paper, with feedback from him, and resubmit them. Hes also prompt w/answering emails and very helpful! If you get to know him, he's sooo cool! Ask him about England and he'll become ur pal! :)

He's the Segueway-guy you see all over campus. He's really nice and extremely helpful. Everytime I have a question he actually seems interested in answering and the subject in general. He's not easy but you learn a lot.

If you are willing to put some work into what you do, then this class is probably for you. It's not something you can just throw together and expect a good grade. I couldn't stand him at first, but now I like him more. If you see him during office hours he will give you LOTS of help.

There are 3 projects/presentations that are very time consuming but if you work hard you will get a goodgrade. Best professor in SFC. He is extremely helpful, and class is not boring at all. the papers and exams are easy. TAKE HIM. HE IS THE BEST PROF!!

This is the MOST USEFUL class I have taken at SFC. Just finished my A.A. and glad I took Prof. ****son's class before I finished. There is a lot of writing involved but it is all very relevant and extremely important. He is approachable and gives plenty of chances to fix errors and better your work. I've recommended this class to all of my friends!

Why am I the first to grade Mr. ****son? He's AWESOME!!! Very funny and energetic guy. SUPER EASY A! Gives very clear assignments and gives you plenty of class time to complete them. Accepts late work and is an honest but easy grader. Assignments are all very fun and useful throughout the remainder of school and life. Highly Recommend.

I love Mr. Dickson's class! He is really passionate about english & he wants everyone in his class to succeed. However, if you don't put effort into your essays he will fail you. He wants you to learn from your essays & clearly research them. He didn't require a final for the class & felt our learning came from our writing. I will take his ENC1102!

Really easy teacher if you can write. But doesn't allow the use of the word "is" so it's kind of a pain. Allows you to turn in late work with barely any penalty and before turning in your final paper, he proof reads a rough draft, which helps you get an even better grade. Very, very easy teacher.

Fairly easy class if you don't mind doing several oral presentations and a group project. He doesn't really teach, is just there to answer your questions. He hands out the assignments and tells you to work on them in class.

AMAZING! He doesn't really teach, so he goes over the projects you have and any questions. He only gives papers & projects, no exams. But he's really awesome about helping and checking your stuff before the deadline. He also likes when you network with fellow classmates! Totally recommend!!!!!!!!!

Good teacher. He doesn't assign a lot of work, and the papers he does assign he explains very well. You get out of class early a lot. Highly recommended.

Professor Dickson is a fabulous teacher. He is funny and enthusiastic; it's clear he loves his subject. Although you are expected to write a lot, it IS an English class. He's very helpful, though and will never make you feel silly for asking questions. In fact, he encourages it! I HIGHLY recommend taking him for this class.

Great professor, really wants to see you develop as a writer. Cracks himself up all the time. The essays (which there are quite a few of) do count for a majority of the grade but he lets you revise almost all of them! I really enjoyed this class and I recommend it to future students!!!!

ENC1101 was easy and went by quick. ENC1102 was harder and went by really slow. There are a lot of papers and he does expect you to revise them perfectly. The class takes a lot of time and work. Attendance is mandatory. I'm not sure that I would recommend the class to someone who has poor writing skills or a hard time understanding poems/stories.

Excellent professor. If you plan on ever getting a job, take him for Technical Writing. He makes the assignments relevant while giving you great, constructive feedback. His grading is not easy for papers, but there is only one exam-the final. If you want to learn to write effectively, TAKE HIM!

Mr. Dickson is GREAT! Don't get me wrong, his class is extremely challenging but if you go to class and pay attention it's not too bad. I learned A TON! The class is pure writing. 5 essays and depending on how he does it a few in class essays. He gives you the ability to re-write everything but it's still tough. Overall great teacher!!

LOVE this man, so nice. He is so passionate about poetry and the essays we read. He makes you work for your grade, but it worth it. I have learned a lot. You can always ask questions and he really likes it when you participate in class. He is very into following MLA exactly like the handbook. Definitely I recommend him if you like English.

Dr. Dickson is a very good instructor, although he would crucify me for "is" being my first verb. He is always available to help tweak work and very clear on what he expects from you. I appreciate him holding us to a very high standard and I feel prepared for his next course. I highly recommend him for anyone seeking to improve their writing

Dr. Dickson seriously knows what he is teaching and has a great passion to share his knowledge. All he wants is for you to think and do your work. He is always willing to clarify anything you don't understand and welcomes your opinion. An excellent teacher!

Fantastic teacher, he is authentic and genuinely cares about his students and wants them to learn. Learning is often experientially, writing, getting feedback and critique and correcting it. The point is that you get "it", by the end of term. Very available through office hours, a stickler for details and timing on the oral presentations. GREAT!

I was affraid to take this class because I feared all the writing that I would have to do. But, I made an A in his class. Yes, I had to write papers all the time, but it was so interesting. He really makes everything so enjoyable to learn. I would take another class with him in a minute, if he taught a different class. Really nice man.

Nice guy. Grat mind. As long as you follow his directions and make the corrections on your essays as he says, you should pass with minimun a B. 4 essays and 2 quizzes for the entire semester. and you get 3-4 weeks to write each essay. TAKE HIM!

He is SO boring, but you get out of class early sometimes. I missed a few classes with no penalty because he's really understanding. You only get 5 essays, 2 in class essays and no final for the whole semester. TAKE HIM. He's really easy and nice

Class was tough. Would only recommend if you're pretty good writer since that's all you do. Attendance is mandatory, 2 exams and a final. Majority of grade is from written papers. Two count double. THIS IS NOT A CLASS TO TAKE IF YOU'RE PAPERS ARE SUB-PAR. He grades sorta harsh so be ready for the red pen. Class was interesting and mildly difficult.

You will write like 10 essay but I Think that's all enc1102. His class is not that hard but it does take a lot of time. Dicson cares about his students but does not let anyone just get a B. If you want to learn take him if you want an easy B pass.

If you want to challenge yourself to become a better writer and a more well rounded person then definitely take him. He's a difficult grader, and gives out a lot of work and essays. But this class has been very rewarding and unless you really hate a challenge, you won't regret taking him.

This class was amazing, as long as you come to class you should. He really made me see and understand symbolism and creative writing. You do write quite a few essays but they are real simple, sweet and short. Besides if you don't know what to put in your essays he encourages using sparknotes,shoomp etc to brainstorm ideas.

Pretty laid back class sessions; often no one will even say anything to "start" the class, we just go to work writing so its reliant on you to do your work on time and show up. Got a few big papers, one or two oral presentations, not bad at all. No quizzes or tests except the final; just writing assignments. Interesting and helpful guy too.

Great teacher. Challenges you as a writer and only does so because he wants to see you excel. I really enjoyed taking him. Although sometimes he can be a push over, don' take advantage of him. He really is a great professor and person overall.

Although you do not need the English book, you'll need to use the Bedford Handbook. It's a great book, and you'll need to utilize it for years to come throughout college. Personally, I enjoy this little red jewel. Professor D's classes are fun. Talk about enjoying ever class period. He makes it fun because he mouth never spews useless banter.

Professor Dickson has a strong interest in seeing the English language used properly. Do not turn in papers without proofreading them, and use the office hours. You can learn a lot of important skills in this class. While this class isn't difficult, do not take an A for granted. You might find that you get a lot out of it if you apply yourself.

Dr. Dickson was by far my favorite professor. I dislike lit and reading alot but he made it fun and interesting. His passion was so inspiring and you can really see it. He really cares about his students and is always welcoming open discussion. You should for sure take him. Not alot of reading, just 3 big papers.

He's an exceptional professor; very clear and helpful. He gives basic instructions for assignments & lets students be independent with their work. If you ever have questions or want help, go to him during his office hours - he gives helpful feedback. My writing has definitely improved since taking his class.

He's not too bad. He likes to ramble and has a lot of knowledge. As long as you sow up for class, READ THE MATERIAL, and try you'll pass.

Tough class, but he's incredibly helpful if you ask for help. Didn't give much writing instruction in class. We spent a lot of class time watching climate change and advertising videos. Uses a tougher grade point scale -- 92-100 is A, so 91 is B, etc.

After multiple classes, I can sincerely say he's one of the best professors I've had. He's very kind, helpful, patient, good with feedback and clear about what he's looking for if you take the time to listen. He knows what he's talking about and is inspiring. Just do your best, put in the effort and don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it.

by far the best teacher to take right out of high school. He really strengthened my writing abilities! Some of his first lectures I was lost but he is extremely patient when it comes to extra help. He will set up a time around YOUR schedule to help you with papers and even for other classes! You will live by the book!

Seriously, he is THE most amazing professor. I 've always loved to read, but did NOT like poetry. I'm not sure how, but he's converted me! He is so passionate about the material, you just can't help yourself but love it, too. If you struggle, simply meet him during his ample office hours-He offers kind, constructive, specific advice-He's AMAZING!

by far one of my favorite professors. once you peer edit your paper, he will give you your paper back with corrections he has made and you can turn it in again for a better grade. not at all hard. very helpful and will help improve your writing. definitely take his class

At the beginning of the semester he grades very harshly to "scare" the students. If you follow his directions and examples carefully you will do well in the class. He posts an example for every assignment. You definitely have to put in the work for this class but he was a pleasure to have as a teacher and I would definitely take him again.

Loved this class. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the subject matter, and he is equally interested in the subject matter. There is a lot of reading, but everything is engaging. If you have an issue with a paper or the class in general, he is EXTREMELY helpful if you speak to him during office hours. He will help you become a better writer.

Professor D is a kind and knowledgeable man. Unfortunately, he does not lecture or teach anything. Going to class seems pointless since he doesn't teach anything but he will fail you if you miss. He really loves English and is willing to help if you ask. Additionally, he does not post any grades or attendance on canvas. Take with caution.

This teacher was pretty laid back but don't get on his bad side. There was five essay which you wrote a rough draft and then a revised version. This class was a pretty easy class if you do the assignments.

An absolutely amazing guy, he has so much passion for what he does, I want to sob every time I leave class. There's not a lot of teachers like him anymore. He's such a kind and pure soul and SO woke for an old white southern guy. I want to sit on a porch in rocking chairs sipping sweet tea with him while he tells me stories from his past.

Loved this professor. Hes there to make sure you learn and leave with a new skill of researching and proper MLA format. I plan to take him for as many classes possible!

He gives good feedback on papers

He's a relatable professor who knows how to make lectures interesting and funny. The papers and assignments all have clear rubrics so its hard to get a bad grade on them. Would definitely take again, a super chill and great prof.

His assignments are generally easy for the most part, however, he is very critical of even the slightest mistakes. He puts his heart into his work and will do his best to help you out of class. Follow proper format and you'll be fine.

Dr. Richard was very nice! He was personable and cares for his students. Do not be afraid to go to his office and ask him to look at your papers! He will give you helpful hints to make your paper A worthy. Overall I enjoyed this class & this professor!

Professor Dicson is one of the few professors who is truly passionate about what he does and what he's teaching. He loves student engagement and really values the opinions of his students. His lectures are really insightful to the why and how texts were written and really tries to make oftentimes heady texts as accessible as possible.

He is the best description of a "real gem." He is funny and makes the class interesting. He is a somewhat tough grader (takes points off for things like spacing and punctuation), but he has very clear rubrics and follows them, plus he gives opportunities for extra credit. Many papers, but they're short so is not an issue. Would take him again.
