Good lecturer, his tests were hard but thats typical of all the instructors for this particular class.

I really enjoyed his class and the way he taught. He kept my attention the whole hour and twenty minutes I was in there.

Arrogant prick. He is a completely unhelpful, bitter old man who I am surprised can fit through the door - his head is so swelled with his own delusions of self-importance. Condescending and, frankly, mean. Steer clear.
I had him last year. i dropped him. He is full of himself and said I should quit business because women should stay at home. He doesn't teach well. i was getting an F, I took another professor and got an A. What does that tell you?! Don't take this professor. He's out to wreck you and illiminate his competition.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! Test questions extremely difficult... homework, lectures and reading does NOT prepare you for his impossible tests. He isn't interested in teaching accounting, only proving he is smarter than you are. Don't believe me? You'll see!!!!
He's an okay teacher, You can take the class one of two ways, show up and take good notes (and not bother reading) or read the book and don't bother with the class. Doing both is a waste of time, other than the random quizes. But the test was pretty strange, it's graded on a curve though, so no big. Take another prof if you can, but he's okay.
This teacher is great, I don't know what these guys are talking about. You do have to acutally read and study, WOW imagine that, but if you do you will get an A. He fully explains everything that he expects you to learn. If you highlite the parts he reads in class, study them, and know their meaning you will do well. Easy & interesting class.
The lectures are excellent, he has a lot of enthusiasm for the subject. The two required papers aren't too hard. It's the quizzes and exams that are extremely vague and difficult. The average score was a D on the first exam, but he grades on a curve, so that helps.
Never really answers questions...goes around and around and around and you end up more confused after asking a question than before you asked it.
Dunie is hard as it gets man. Foundations of business will rock your world. He himself is an alright teacher and a good guy, but his tests are impossible. Just be happy if you don't have to retake this class. If you can do Pass/Fail, go for it, you'll enjoy it much more
Great Teacher Not an easy grade unless you work for it
Basically, he's really full of himself. He thinks he's the be all end all. He does usually do a decent job of explaining the readings. Until you take the test and get screwed. He does grade on a curve, so it helps a bit. The papers suck. The dialogue paper is really pointless. Avoid him if you can. You'll wish you did.
DUNIE ROCKS MY WORLD
Anyone complaining about Dunie is just lazy. If you pay attention during class it really is not that hard! He explains everything and it's very clear what he expects of you. I liked the class and I don't even plan on being a business major.
Dunie is great at giving the students plenty of examples and study questions so that they can be prepared. He does challenge you, but it is never going to be out of a person's capability to do well if they actually do the the assignments and study questions. Most teachers don't give people reviews and Dunie does. If you do them, you'll do well
I really enjoyed the class. It was extremely tough if you're looking for an easy A. This is more of a philosophy course. I went to every class and put about 90% into the class, every class is VERY VERY important. I lost one class of notes and I'm sure it gave me the A-. Dunie talks a lot of politics. Know the readings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought he was a good guy. I think that the edge to his class is to attend and take good notes. He goes over the readings pretty thoroughly so if you pay attention you will have no problem with the study guides. :)
I had Dunie for Bus 1010 and thought he was a great professor, so was looking forward to taking his accounting class. HUGE MISTAKE! Pretty much just reads straight from the power point slides. Exams were extremely difficult.
I took this class to get credits out of the way, and I surprisingly enjoyed this class. Dunie is an interesting man. He's definitely not the easiest teacher, but if you go to class, somewhat pay attention, take notes, and do your homework (like you're suppose to anyways) you should do fine.
I went into this class dreading it but came out loving it. He knows his stuff and teaches the topic extremely well. PAY ATTENTION in class, it will help you immensely on his tests.
I thought he was an excellent, intelligent, charismatic, and funny teacher. My advice would be to make sure you come to every class, pay attention, and take notes. It was helpful to me to read the text, but many people did well only coming to class. Also, as long as you understand all of the concepts in his reviews, you will do fine on the tests.
Dunie is a very fun professor and does a swell job at keeping the class interesting. As long as you attend class and do the readings on occasion, it is a fairly easy class to get a good grade in. He gives several "pop quizzes" but always gives huge hints when they will be.
Rick puts a lot into his lectures and also expects a lot out of his students. He is fair and very willing to help students get A's. He is one of the most enjoyable lecturers I've ever listened to.
Horrible professor. Do NOT take his class!
I'm not the best at accounting in the first place, but this class was horrible! He just goes over problems in class but the tests have completely different problems. The homework assignment was long and only worth 16 points. This class is BAD!
Dunie is so boring it almost kills you. His tests are very hard and don't cover anything on the practive exams. Attendence is not mandatory thank god. Try to take the class from someone else
Dunie is an Idiot. He doesn't understand the authors he tests on (Ex: He claimed "moochers" from Atlas Shrugged, were corperate executives (Wesley Moocher was on the Federal payrol). He test you on his false interpretations of the readings and his test are abstract and rediculous. I had a 3.82 GPA before this class, it was my only B- ever incollege
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.. Exams are extremely long and difficult
Highly recommend NOT taking classes from him. Dunie takes pride in being "enlightened" and will use the whole class time and then some to convince you he is so. His exams were boring and tedious and often contradicted class discussion. Although attendance isn't mandatory it affects your grade because he likes POP Quizzes.
Far, far better than Marci, the other teacher of this class. He provides everything you need to do well, you just have to do ALL of it (read, homework, lectures, study guides). Very practical take on learning accounting, useful lectures.
He means well, but he doesn't really adjust his teaching style to how the students do. He announces on the first day of class that he will not change his tests. His class average on tests is in the 60s, but he wont do a thing about it because "of those 2 students that will get As". I'm just saying read the book, do all the example problems, and stu
If you come to class a pay attention, you're fine. He's fairly interesting but can be boring at times. not the best professor but not the worst. As far as arrogance, yes, maybe to some degree. Tests are fairly difficult.
To be honest I am studying for the final now and am realizing how much more I should have done during the semester. As far as PRf. Dunie goes, I didn't feel he did a very good job explaining the concepts and acctng for me is one the few courses that the text needs to be explained or it is hard to pick up.
This professor is great. The topics he covers are not the most interesting, but if you go to class you should do fine. Dunie makes it clear that he is always available to help, which he was from my experience. His classes are interactive, which is rare for a general ed course.
Dunie is great professor and a funny guy, His lectures are made a little less painful because he is animated and nice. This is an extremely difficult class but if you have to take it, take it with Dunie.
Lectures are decent and it feels like we learn material. Texts are out of this world difficult and nothing like what we talked about in class. However there is a curve which saves your life. Very few get A's, very Few fail.
Dunie is ignorant and biased. Lectures are boring and generally miss the mark of the text, while quizzes/exams are subjective nonsense. That this class is a prerequisite for any upper division programs is idiotic. Dunie takes forever to grade anything and writes atrocious test/quiz questions. Avoid this class. Take it from Sandomir.
Dunie is solid! If you really want to learn the material this is the guy that could teach it to you. If you want an easy A, try another teacher. He will take the time to help ANY of his students. Yes it's hard, but it's the hard that makes it great. If if was easy everyone would do it.
Disappointed in this class. Came to class virtually every period, and felt it was a waste of time. Uses examples from the book, and talks down to students frequently in my opinion. If I could help it, I would not take another class from him in the future.
Prof. Dunie is decent. Lectures are not as bad as everyone says it is. Actually enjoyed his class. Has a study guide that helps with tests and quizes. If you attend class and study the slides and study guide it's an easy class. The 2 papers aren't too bad. Either study the slides or read the text. Put your time in and its an easy A.
He was very clear about what would be covered and he tested on assigned readings. If you listen to the lectures and take notes, you'll generally understand what he is expecting you to pick up from the reading. I read maybe 10% of texts and got a B-
Professor Dunie is a really nice guy. He doesn't give you a great idea about what will be on the test or the quizzes and they are somewhat subjective.
Richard Dunie is an outstanding professor. Very concise material, and not very informative of what will be on the quiz. But, the review he posts on Canvas is very helpful to study as long as you understand the material in class. LOTS OF READING.
Professor Dunie is a great teacher! His class was the first class I took after being out of school for almost 10 years and it was perfect for helping me get back into the student mentality. His course will teach you how to think, not how to memorize test questions and answers. I highly recommend Dunie for anybody who is willing to put forth effort.
Seriously the worst business teacher I have had. Dunie thinks he knows all about the business world, but I honestly feel like I am more knowelageble than him. He uses useless stories and schemes out of the textbook, and the tests are ridiculously hard. He babbles on in class and thinks that his way is always politically correct. Don't take this
Dunie is a nice guy, but the class is not what I expected. It should be called "Philosophy of Business." There is a lot of reading that supposedly applied to business. The class was interesting but pretty difficult. There were two papers, one midterm, and three quizzes. I wouldn't recommend it if you are not a business major.
If you want to get a good grade you need to listen to his lectures 'cause his tests & quizzes are based on what he tells you the book means. I bought notes from a girl in this class, she was the only reason I got an A. He keeps you the whole class period which sucks if you take it from 6-9. He was interesting at first but became hard to listen to.
Dunie is a great professor. He focuses on the main ideas of the readings, so make sure you actually understand them instead of just memorizing details. The tests are hard, but he'll go over them with you if you ask. If you don't understand a reading, ask lots of questions, because they will all be on the tests and quizzes.
Dunie was an awesome professor for this class! If you do the readings and show up you are sure to get a good grade. A lot of people think this class is hard, but Dunie breaks it into bite size pieces that are easy to understand. I highly recommend him!
Arrogant. He never lets any of his students have the last word. There were many times were students had such creative ideas that went a long with the readings but he would just shut them down and say, "that's not was Aristotle meant by that" He knows his stuff, but teachers the class as an English professor would.
He is a smart guy and knows what he is talking about, but it seems with this class that what the readings mean can vary greatly depending on the person. Class isnt mandatory but you really need to go if you want to do well on the tests. As long as you go to class and take good notes, you should do fine in the class but it is not an easy class.
I recommend recording his lectures or taking extensive notes and not just using his slides. Great teacher but can get off topic easily. His material isn't hard with lengthy notes. A tip would be to study the comparisons between authors. Understanding concepts from authors is the easy part but remembering which author said what is the hard part.
He is an alright teacher. If you go to class and take very good notes, you should be good. His tests are fairly difficult. It seems like this class is completely dependent on how the teacher interprets the text and the readings are rarely straight forward.
I recommend sitting in the front since he always knows the names of those in the front. If you can, record his lectures and listen to them before the test since it is difficult to get everything onto notes. His test was very hard but he curved the grade. Make sure you know the names and comparisons of authors, not just what they said. flashcards!
This class is not easy and requires a lot of reading, however if you go to class and pay attention in his lectures you will do fine without the readings. Dunie is willing to help a lot, and as long as you talk in advance, flexible in taking quizzes at a different day. Not an easy class, but as long as you pay attention you will do fine.
I usually like this kind of class but this one felt like a waste of time. The professor's tangents are irrelevant and lengthy. His quizzes and tests are ridiculously detailed and are often based upon his personal interpretation of the materials. I would recommend Sandomir instead; his classes seem much more interesting and involved.
If you take notes in class and follow his study guide you will pass the class. The LECTURES are TOO LONG, but they are thought provoking and intellectually stimulating 80% of the time. He's a smart guy and I found the gradinghomeworkquizzes etc. to be completely FAIR and WELL ORGANIZED.
I took the honors version on Business Foundations from him and it was pretty easy. Participation is mandatory, but I'm pretty shy and didn't talk much and ended up with a good grade. There were two papers and a final, which was essay format but a take home. There are readings every class period, so make sure you buy the book.
Professor Dunie was an excellent professor who was passionate about his subject. If you come to class, listen, and do the readings, you will do well in this class.
Great Professor!! I loved going to every lecture. His lectures were very fun to listen to. He knows the subject really well. Seems like he knows the book inside out! Books are a must. You think you know the subject until you take the exams. He is an extremely harsh grader. Regardless this was a very fun class!
Lots of readings, but if you pay attention in class you will not have a problem. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you don't go to class you've got to be super smart to understand the readings on your on. This class is not easy but Dunie does an amazing job at teaching it. Recommended.
3 hour night class, cold classroom, and nothing but his voice made this class really hard to attend. He clearly has great things to say, but very hard to teach the content .
Really good professor. I honestly didn't read much in this class, if you go to the lectures you can pass the class. He explains basically everything that is on the exams and is interesting. You need to study but if you listen to him and put in some effort you can get an A. Iv noticed a lot of people say he is a hard grader- I must disagree.
Dr. Dunie is great! If you come to class, you'll do well on the quizzes. There's a lot of reading involved, but all the readings have powerpoint on Canvas to summarize the material. If he doesn't mention something in class, it's not going to be on the test. I really enjoyed his teaching style as he gives everyone a chance to participate.
The average is a B- .. not an A- , the tests are not proportional to his lectures. The few people who did well bought quizes from previous students. Expect quizes (most of grade) to be 75% complete curveballs, questions with ambiguous or multiple answers. This antiquated pedagogy is the reason UoU Bus Grads are worth so little on the market today.
Professor Dunie knows what he's talking about. The entire grade is based on 5 quizzes, 2 papers, and 2 exams. If you're present and pay attention you shouldn't have trouble with them. He's very good at applying the principles being taught to present day examples.
Professor Dunie is a nice guy but his Honors version of Foundations of Business Thought needs a lot of work. He completely re-arranges the course so it doesn't line up with the book (possibly because he doesn't like one of the authors). We spend the class making the same point over and over from one of the readings. I wouldn't take his class again.
Richard was super easy. If you go to class, you will most definitely pass. The quizzes are easy, but again, dependent on your attendance. I didn't purchase a textbook and ended up with an A in the class. It was an extremely interesting class.
Dunie is a great professor, he really knows his stuff. The class was a bit of a curveball, but if you go you'll pass. I bought the book, but I didn't really need it. Almost everything on the tests and quizzes he will go over in class. Boring subject matter, but he kept it interesting.
Professor Dunie's class is hard but worth it. He has a HUGE curve. For the end of class, an 85% was an A- and 90% was an A. He gives great, engaging lectures. He knows what he is talking about. 2 tests. 2 papers. 5 quizzes. Drops 1. Go to class, otherwise you will be lost. I didn't read the book and got an A-. Highly recommend him. Great teacher.
Participation, one term paper, and the final are all that go into your grade with no extra credit work possible. He did do a good job of getting everybody to participate, which is required to pass the class (not just being there, but actually speaking) but he doesn't make it easy. If the overall class grades are low, he'll grade on a curve.
Compared to the other 1051 classes, Dunie is a breeze. However, as a standalone class, it was really difficult. Participation makes up half your grade, so be prepared to talk. There's one paper and a take-home final, both of which aren't too bad. All in all, he makes you compete against the other students for your grade, which is unfair and stupid.
The readings are confusing but the study questions & slides help. The quizzes suck; he has answers that sound right but aren't the MOST right. Quizzes are more to see who's coming than to help learn. The papers' prompts are unclear and even when whole class is lost, refuses to acknowledge that it might be his fault, and grades the same way.
This class is very interesting and his lectures are brilliant. Dunie is a really great guy. Whenever I needed help I would go to his office and he was very supportive. However, his quizzes and tests are extremely difficult. I would study for HOURS and still get a bad grade on the quizzes. I suggest going to class and taking A LOT of notes.
He's pretty funny and you can learn a lot from him. He can get on rants but it's clear he cares about what he is doing.
good lectures, for how boring the topic is. most of the grade is tests and quizes, which he givews you answers flat out toward the end of the semester as a way of saying thank you for showing up. easy class if you do the reading. if not it can get really hard really quickly
I found the class interesting and he was a generally a funny interesting lecturer. Sometimes topics got boring, but overall he was fun to listen to, and I enjoy 90% of his lectures. Just make sure you take good notes because they will really help you for the exam. Also read the required readings, the class will make more sense.
Richard Dunie was my favorite professor of the semester! He made me want to come to class because his lectures were always very interesting. Take good notes and you will be fine. His tests and quizzes are hard but he drops the lowest quiz score and curves the exams. You don't really have to do all the reading, you discuss everything in class anyway
There are a couple of readings due each class period. Some of them are really long, but if you go to class and pay attention he will tell you the parts that you need to know. I rarely did the readings, but I took good notes in class. He gives 7 pop quizzes (so you go to class), 2 papers, 1 midterm and 1 final.
Professor Dunie was one of the worst professors I have ever encountered. Every time I reached out to him for some help he gave me responses that made me feel as though I was annoying. I did not enjoy this class simply because of him. The material is tough as it is, so to add a rude professor on top of that is a mixture for failure.
Dunie is a smart person but a bad teacher. You don't learn anything that really applies to modern day business. He has a Bachelors degree in English Literature and he teachers business as if its a english class. No real business applications taught here.
Professor Dunie gives great lectures. Most people don't understand that the sole purpose of this class is to teach you critical thinking skills which are absolutely essential in business. Come to class with an open mind. My issue was with Dunie personally. He can be very arrogant and reneged on an agreement he made with me on the final.
This class could've been really interesting with a different professor. Whenever I would email Professor Dunie for help, he would act as if I was annoying. I never felt like he prepared us for exams and I constantly left class more confused than I was when I arrived. I am considering retaking this course with a different professor.
Took this class Fall 2014 semester, I'm graduating this semester and I can tell you, without a doubt, that this is hardest exam I have taken. This class is absolutely trash, foundations of business? HA!! More like philosophy of business. Didn't like this professor, didn't prepare you for exams at all, so good luck.
This professor spews inaccurate facts, even though he bashes the "fake news." He needs to understand that we all have Google and can Google facts, if I had to do it over again, I would raise my hand and correct him. Didn't understand his grading curve, never knew my grade until the end of course. Would Never take from this professor again.
Possibly my favorite lecturer I've ever had. Had no desire to take this class and it was one of my favorite classes I've ever had. Loved showing up to class. Had to study for my grade, but enjoyed studying the material.
Dunie makes his lectures correlate with the text well, and helps you understand what you should be looking out for in the text for his tests. If you skip class, it makes it ten times harder to do well on the midterm and finals (both multiple choice and essay). If you show up to class and listen for key points, it will help you a lot.
LOVED his class. Gave great thought-provoking lectures!
