Pretty difficult exams; think you know what you're getting in the class? Guess again! (Take Philpot)
The class average for the first test was a 45. This was after we had an extra week to study. The tests are impossible, and although you think you did well, you probably didn't. Dont waste your time.
Unbelievable tests, he tests on info he does not cover nor completely understand. Waste of time going to class, he tells the same story over and over again, don't bother studying for tests...it dosn't help.
Hard and boring. Tells same friggin story over n over. Getting a decent grade is similar to mission impossible. AVOID---Take Amy Frank.
Marketing anyone????.... and all that Jazz. Wow this guy is rough.
I cannot believe this guy, he makes the stuff harder than it really is. Avoid him, he will frustrate you all semester. He does curve though, you will need it, trust me.
Exams are extremely difficult!!!!
Exams are impossible. Buying a book is a waiste because nothing comes from the book. Listen, dont make the mistake I made. drop this class and take it with someone else. His lectures are also very very boring.
He teaches sumthin and tests u on sumthin else reading the book is a waste of time and gettin a good grade is really hard and its mere impossible.
It was the worst. I struggled to get a C. You ask him for some clarification and he directs you to the web to his examples that make no sense. You have no idea where he gets his information from and God help you wheb you take his test!
You think you know what to study, but you don't get tested on it... SHHHUURRRR is a frequent word used, you all know what i'm talking about. Avoid him at all costs!
Stay away! So many people told me to drop him, but I didn't. I wish I had. Taking notes is pointless and confusing. His slides are crap. If you go to him for help, he'll just respond with some trivial answer. Exams are hard as****.
Good luck...your going to need it
This should sum it up: I am a Finance Major with a GPA of 3.27 lowest grade in 4 years at GMU a C in Marketing 301! GOOD LUCK!
This guy doesn't even know what's on his own tests! He's horrible with computers, and hasn't even posted grades after 2+ weeks since finals ended! Unrealistically difficult material which is not found in books or notes.
After taking his class, one thing I can say for sure, he has an excellent knowledge about marketing and business BUT when it comes to teaching, he is awful. In simple words, his class will be a great challenge for you - if you are still willing to take it
No No No No. Run away and never look back. He told us that he's never given out an A in his class, that should tell you something.
whatever u do dont take him.if there are no other classes but his available wait till next semester, this guy has no teaching ability whatsoever. tests are incredibly hard and he doesnt explain how to do the case study which is 1/4 of the grade.someone should report this guy make him quit teaching.
Ok here's my story, I have a GPA of 3.75 and the only C I got in Mason was in his class. It was a class from hell...
Took him 5 years ago and still irritated with his bad attitude, lack of respect for students and inability to teach anything. Made a decent subject miserable. Not only was it presented in a dry, unclear manner but his exams were trivial and also ruined my GPA. This guy is still there?!!!
This guy is unbelievable. He doesnt take into consideration who his students are. Claims he has studied and worked in the field of marketing for over 30 years and tests his classes like they have also. His test were rediculous and so were his lectures and notes. Avoid at all costs!!!!!
Don't go to class. You'll learn so much more if you just read the book. His lectures will confuse the hell out of you. He doesn't test on lecture material, so don't worry. His test questions go in exact order of the chapters. Get out if you can...I got a C. Surprisingly, he won't fail you.
Okay, this class should be easy, but not with this guy. I just took a test, after studying all weekend, and got an F. It's the first F I have ever gotten and I only have 8 classes left to take before I graduate!
Tests are rediculous. Class is a slumber party. Curves like crazy so it is really not that bad.
DROP, if you have already registered. Doesnt teach anything, Tests are hard (curves though). Do not take this class if you want to save yourself a semester long headache of whether you will pass with a C or end up with a D.
OH my GOD...I am still in a shock. After taking final, I was just praying to pass the class. I can't believe it that I got "B" in his class. His class was horrible and lectures were awful. But he gives huge curves and also dropped the lowest exam. Anyhow, I would still say that don't take his class.
Professor Entrikin curves like crazy. I pulled off a C----I don't know how, but thank God!
if u r planning to take this teacher, then u defnitely asking for trouble and bad grade, it doesn't matter how hard u work. mktg suppose to be common sense but this professor makes it so hard and horroble. his review are soooooooo not helpful. good luck if u don't have any other option. cause u need it.
TERRIBLE. I regret having taken his class. Lectures were boring, hard to follow. Exams were very, very hard. I'm an honor student - I studied and attended all the classes. I still got a C. Screwed my GPA.
Holy heck, DON'T TAKE THIS PROF! He is terrible, possibly the worst I've ever had. He doesn't know how to teach and for a class that should be easy, many struggle to pass! His exams have nothing to do with anything he teaches. Do yourself a favor, DON'T TAKE THIS PROF!!!
Terrible professor. He told us he didn't expect anyone to get an A on his exams without a curve. I asked how to study, he said 40% lecture and 60% book. He won't announce that study tip, you have to ask...I don't believe he wants students to succeed. I managed a B.
Exams were as if you were to have 30 years of experience. Good thing he curved like crazy. He had to, otherwise nobody would pass.
HORRIBLE teacher! His exams are extremely hard. His lectures/notes are completely pointless. I failed EVERY exam with a curve. I got a C in his class! He knows that over half the class did bad so guess he can't fail everyone. Do not take this professor! I was warned before but I didn't listen.
He doesn't seem to grasp the fact that the class was supposed to be an INTRODUCTION to marketing. His notes were NOT helpful, his website was CONFUSING and NOT up-to-date. What was on the tests was NOT what was discussed during his lectures. This was just a HORRIBLE experience.
Dropped in 2 classes...friends stuck around, got C's barely thanks to curve - bad experience
You have to take a lot of notes in his class. A lot of his exams are of his notes. He will go over and answer any questions before exams! He is an easy grader. He doesn't make marketing the most fun, but makes it fairly easy!
DROP IT FAST! I just took the first exam, which was after the drop period, and got a 55% with the curve. I am a dean's list student, and spent 7+ hours studying for the exam. He is a good teacher, but his exam questions are pulled out of thin air. More than half the questions on the test were never taught, or in the supplemental material. Drop!
This guy isn't so bad. He's very knowledgeable in the field of marketing. The class is very hard, though. Here's a suggestion: print out all of the online notes (big pain since they're all separate docs), bring them to class, and write down the prof's explanations. Study those notes for the exam and you should be able to pull a B. Worked for me.
He's a nice man and willing to answer questions, but the class IS difficult and requires a lot of studying. Print ALL notes prior to class, bring them, and take additional notes. Look over those notes at least three times a week. Do well on the first exam and case study and you should do fine. He is not organized, so organize your notes.
DROP IT LIKE IT IS HOT! I got a B for the class, although mathematically I was supposed to get a C. Good luck trying to study for his tests because he does not use the book.If you want an A, you will have to record his lectures, take notes,in addition to memorizing the practice test."Thats the name of the game, dont kid yourself, its BIG BUSINESS!"
I never missed a class. Studied for all of his exams. Read the book. Exams are rediculous and have nothing to do with what he goes over in class or what you read in the book. I read all of his negative comments before I took this class and took it anyway. Bad mistake. Worst grade I've gotten in 4 years. This guy will kill your GPA!
I pride myself on how good my memory is, but it is COMPLETELY INEFFECTIVE when the material on the tests was never introduced. What I see in my notes are just a bunch of terms that were never defined or explained. This is precisely why teachers with PhD's should be required to have some background in Education, not just their course of study.
I have never had a teacher as sorry as this one! Extremely difficult, thinks everyone is as knowledgable as him. The only way to do well in his class is if your his twin brother. I am a "B" student, the letter B does not exist in this class. His sample exams he posts online has NOTHING to do with the real exam he gives you.
bad bad bad. Save yourself the stress and dont't take ANY classes with him. Like others on here I read the comments and thought I'd be fine; but BIG MISTAKE, please heed the warnings!
Man, I have never had a class this difficult. I attended just about every class, took good notes, read the book , and still had no clue on the exams. He treats this class as if everyone in there are marketing majors. About the only good thing is he curves his exams...and if not for the curves I wouldnt have gotten a "C" in this class.
WOW! Just took the Final Exam and its as he pulled the questions from thin air!! He told us to study a practice exam (none of the exam questions were related)..... we had a review session last week (none of the exam questions were related).... I read through some of the chapters (none of the exam questions were related). DO NOT TAKE!
The guy is one of the most boring guys to listen to. He talkes to himself during lectures. Ex) There is a high turnover in this industry (as a matter of fact most do), many people like them (I know I do). AHHH!!!
Wow this guy might as well not teach class or have a book or practice exams since the actual exams he gives have nothing to do with any of these things NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER take his class i have never studied so hard for D save yourself.
I wasn't 1 of those who'd believe in others' preferences bout a prof. 'til I took him. I thought all I had to do was goin' 2 class, took notes,... then I'd be fine. NO! It wasn't truth w/ him. I should of dropped this class when I 1st saw his syllabus schedule, it's typed in horrible word skill. He's unorganized w/ bad memories. DONT TAKE HIM!
NEVER EVER EVER EVER TAKE THIS CLASS! I WENT TO EVERY SINGLE LECTURE, EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY! HIS LECTURES HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BOOK, OR THE EXAMS. HE PULLS TOPICS OUT OF THIN AIR AND EXPECTS TO KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. HE DOESNT EXPLAIN ANYTHING!!! HIS PRACTICE EXAMS AND SG'S HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE EXAM YOU REALLY TAKE.
No seriously. Listen to the comments. Someone needs to petition this guy out of his privledge to teach us. Nothing you are taught from the professor, read from the book, or study from the practice exams is on the test...We, the experienced, know the wrath of Dr. Entrikin and warn you not to take his class
Honestly, I read everyone's comments and thought wow, what am I getting into. The professor is not easy, but you are in college!! Go to class, take excellent notes, read the book before lecture, and study from his terms list. It's not an easy class, but you can absolutley get an A or B. Just really take good lecture notes.
Prof. Entrikin is an absolutely helpful, understanding teacher at GMU! He goes through all the material that you need for the EXAM. Study your NOTES and you'll pass with at least a B!!! Don't bother reading the book, read the powerpoint. Ask questions when you don't understand!
The class really isn't that bad. I enjoyed his lecture style. Make sure you read the book, but definitely don't depend solely on the material in it. Make sure you read the ppt presentations, go over the sample exams, and most importantly take VERY good notes. The majority of the exam questions come from his lecture.
He is a very nice guy and very responsive to emails. The lectures are long and the only way to pass one of his exams is to take good notes, read the book, and read his practice exams. Th exams come mostly from his lectures. STAY AWAKE!
Add 1 more voice to the chorus. He's not bad guy and the lectures are adequate, there is just no correlation between what he teaches you and what he tests for. If you plan on doing well you better have a photographic memory folks.
GMU has a serious problem on its hands here. I am a straight A student & I've never experienced this level of failure. His exams would best be used as a research project--the only person in the class who could possibly know the material on the exams is the professor himself. Open book/open note tests wouldn't even help Smart man - can't teach!
This professor is useless. Him quitting would make the school of management a better place. The exams are painful to say the least, as he expects you to know word for word everything he covers in class plus much much more! Do not take this class with him. It would be a waste of your time!
If you want to barely pass MKT301 without buying a book and going to the class, THIS IS IT. About 90% of class will fail no matter what and he will curve at the end anyway to change F's to C's. Just do the project in a good group, and be lucky for exams. He doesn't test you for knowledge but tests you for how well you can guess in the exams.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!! his lectures are alright but they have NOTHING to do with the tests!! I cant imagine anyone got a good grade on any exam. The questions on there are seriously out of the blue. I dont know why they just dont fire him and hire someone who wants to help students and not just make them feel stupid. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WORST TEACHER EVER. NEVER EVER TAKE HIM. NO HELP AND NOT UNDERSTANDING AT ALL.
Oh man, he is a terrible professor. His exams are so hard and he doesn't go by the book. So much of what's on the exam is his "own" stuff. The worst teacher I've ever had.
Horrible professor! He gathers his "material" from so many different sources (almost all of which is not available either online or in the expensive textbook) and then tests you on stuff he didn't even teach you. Worst professor I've EVER had. He'll ruin your GPA. AVOID HIM!!!
This class is ridiculous. How can students be expected to pay attention and take good notes when they are put up on a tiny overhead projector from the 1980s; they are impossible to read unless you are on the second row and they are highly unorganized. This professor needs to learn some new teaching techniques.
This guy is the worst professor I have ever had. He gave us the wrong time for the final so I had to make it up with a different class. His notes make no sense. His tests are not covered by the book or the notes so it is virtually impossible to pass. Overall, this is the worst class ever.
Wow, I've never gotten anything lower than an A- before, and I got a C in this class. I am not joking. MKT 301 with this guy beats SOM 301.
I feel my only recourse is to contact Provost Peter Stearns with my complaints. I don't feel it is fair to have my GPA ruined because they have failed to pay attention to student comments for years about this professor's inadequacy.
I do not know how this guy is still teaching. Studying lecture notes or the text won't help you on the tests. Expect to get F's and he will curve them to C's. Such a waste of time. Hope I don't have to deal with him in the future.
Worst professor don't take his class.
you will regret through out the whole semester...DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Taking notes, paying full attention to his lecture...nothing will help u much.EVERYBODY SUFFERS IN HIS CLASS...and thats the truth.
You basically have to teach yourself in this class... he just doesnt know how to teach. there are two papers and three exams, he curved the first exam, the second is part in-class and part take-home but the take-home part is poorly written and makes little sense. just take another class!
if you want to hear a guy ramble on about nothing then take his class. He does have a wealth of knowledge but his head is stuck so far up his you know what, he doesnt even teach; he just talks and talks and talks. His test are very hard and its almost impossible to study for them. I think he is one of those teachers that just gives everone a C.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. Had him for 301 and got stuck with him for 332. Feels like he uses the same exams for 332 for the 301 level. Lives in the past, isn't up to date on how marketing is done today. Uses overheads from the early 90's. Don't think he's ever read the textbooks he is supposed to use. Exam questions come from nowhere. He needs to quit.
People need to quit complaining...if you are not lazy and actually study his class is not that hard! The exams are challenging, but he curves! First test he curved 20% points, second test he curved 12% points!
This professor doesnt lecture about anything that will be on the exam...I just stop going to class and just studied the textbook (gives you the best chance at doing well on the exams without being confused with useless information) He does curve but thats because so many people fail the tests - Avoid this class!
Definitely an easy A if you at least half of a functional brain. I never went to class and as a matter of fact never even bought the textbook. YOU DA MAN ENTRIKIN!
Class was ok. Teacher-student communication is non existent. Tried numerous times to contact professor by phone/email, and contacted dept to inquire about why I received and incomplete grade (I completed all course work). Never received a response and am now going to have to retake class
Nice guy, but tests are a little confusing. Some of his answers directly contradicted the text.
OH MY GOD I WISH I HAD READ THIS SITE FIRST!! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!! I am regretting it so much. He just thows a bunch of meaningless jargon up on the board while talking about something else. None of it is in the book either, which i had to pay $130 for. Useless professor and a total total total waste of my time. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!!
pretty terrible and boring class....he puts up old fashioned projector notes and its not organized well at all...one good thing he does(beside curve) is the class before the exam hell go over everything on the exam so just come to class that day and try to write as much as possible, impossible to take notes otherwise...avoid at all costs!
This is not an easy class because of the instructor's teaching style. The biggest problem is that you just don't knw where his exams questions are coming from...you have to read his notes and d book to get a decent grade. I don't think he can be avoided because it seems like he is the only one that teaches this class. Just do your best n u'll b ok
He is not good at all. His lectures make no sense and he goes through so quickly and then his tests are hard! Do not take him
He's really nice and very helpful.
