too hardcore for a required class. expects you to know everything. lots of work.
gives a bunch of projects- get the practice exams that are on reserve!!!
Very Knowledgeable, Fair tests, interesting class, Very Fair Professor
Check out his belt and pink socks. You def have to know waaay too much!
Nice guy and very knowledgeable. Tests are OK. Gives some projects.

Very knowledgable about topic, pay attention and you should do fine.
way too earthy for me...and tough grader too!
Great prof. Not for the lazy. Very clear and helpful.
Nice guy but really a unfair with tests must know trivial info
BORING, RANDOM INFO, TESTS ON TRIVIAL STUFF
NOT boring; learn a lot of important, relevant stuff; makes you think; expects you to participate - you can't coast and do well; test questions mostly on important stuff, NOT trivia; take LOTS of notes - exams mostly from lecture; interesting, fair prof

Nice knowledgeable teacher
One of best courses I've taken. Prof is excellent - interesting examples in lecture, makes you think.
Good prof, learned a lot, but is this guy Mr. Granola or what?
horrible man, he is not easy and he needs to retire, he tests on random information
good teacher. knows his stuff. class gets a little boring. tough on grammar
This guy loves the environment but his tests are hard even though he puts a test on reserve and then uses some of those questions....Looks like the father from family ties...
Great teacher to have first year. Really sensitive to the transition of becoming a college student. Knows his stuff and always open to discussion. Lectures are a little boring but he's a great teacher and a great guy.
Extremely hard course to recieve a good grade. Teaches it as if it were everyone's major. Know his stuff, but expects a LOT out of you and many of the assignments are useless and time consuming. Tests are difficult and not a very fair grader.
pretty good teacher but expects alot for a course many people just take as CORE 101. lots of assignments and tests require some extensive studying. kinda tough to get an A
Learned a lot from this guy - helped us to think. Not for the lazy (com, psych beware - no easy A). Tests are straight from lecture - be there, take lots of notes, talk up and you'll score.
AWFUL!!!!!
OMG!!! Worst Teacher I have ever had after 4 years. Treats his 101 class like a 400 level class. Dont bother to take him if you are not a hardcore tree hugger!!!!
had him sophomore year, old tests on reseve were clutch, appreiciates questions, really not difficult concepts at all. chair of the dept. so he keeps it interesting. take him
He's a great teacher, very clear. Tests are tough, but study and you'll do good. Tests are straight from lectures, no homework and no midterm. Take him don't listen to these people.
Doesn't count absences. Tests are right from lecture. Very understanding, but tests are hard. Average work load. Spells everything out for you.
Nice man, somewhat of a tree hugger, expects a lot from his students b/c he is the head of the dept.He doesn't take attndnce but if you miss class you miss a lot.Washington Watch Journals every so often are the only hw.Make sure you get the tests on resrve.
interesting topics but tests are hard!!!!!
ummm.. yea.. i dont think he understands that most ppl are taking this class because its CORE, we DONT want to be there. tests are ridiculously hard, he NEVER shuts up for half a second with the notes. Looks exactly like the dad from family ties tho.
ultimate tree hugger! loves squirrels. don't show too much interest or he will recruit u as his apprentice lol. test=hard, they have nit picky stuff from the videos and lectures, but study and youll do good.
hard tests.. interesting material.. would recommedn if you are thinkin about a possible env science major because he knows his stuff and is the head of the dept. not as bad as other professors i heard about
Great guy. Interesting class. Brings environmental science, policy, sociology, and politics under one roof. Take the class...everyday is like Earth Day.
Very knowledgable and will help when you need it
Great guy? OK guy at best. Quite strange..Made most of the class feel uneasy. Some people do really well some people dont. Depends on how easy Science comes to you. An easy B
Horrible teacher... the worst I've ever had. Some of things I heard about him saying to other students is just flat out rude. If you don't do well on his tests you are screwed, because he won't do anything to try to help you out. I feel like he wants people to do badly, he needs to get over himself.
Definitly one of the worst professor/teacher i've had in my entire career as a student. Very rude, not helpful with anything. Thought that everything he said and thought was right, everything else was wrong. Would NEVER recommend one of his classes to anyone
Seminar was one of the best courses I've taken in Environmental Science & Policy. Students brought in most of the material for class after first three weeks. Format was discussions and presentations, so we learned mostly from each other's work. Feldman kept the standards high, and always had important comments to fill in on what we missed.
Feldman loves trees. In fact, he has a belt made out of petrified wood. He also likes to take his class on fieldtrips around Marist in order to study leaves. He loves his organic food and Alison.
Pay attention in class, take plenty of notes and you will do fine as long as you study the sample exams. He knows his stuff and tries to take his trehugging love for the environment into the classroom every session. Overall, good guy with interesting material.
Very tough grader and includes minor details on tests. Must pay attention in class! Don't take if you have no interest in the environment
Professor Feldman is unfortunately pretty rude. I entered the class with high hopes and a positive attitude. Now I actually dread going to class. Feldman makes his students feel incapable and basically dumb. The material is interesting and relevant, but his ego hardly fits through the doorway and hinders students' learning.
I would not recommend taking any of his classes!! He is not the best teacher and is quite rude!
I read that he was rude before I took the course, but couldn't get into another profs section. Dont know what their talkin about, he was cool with us. Turned out to be a real good course. Easy A too. Do the reading, talk in class, do the assignments and review the sample exams. Even told us the final exam essay topics.
This class seemed easy at first but I learned how difficult of a grader he was. It is an intro class and I felt that he held us all to a higher standard. Mostly classes were lectures of the exact same thing we read in the textbook which he wrote. very redundant and gave very little opportunity to participate in discussion, but then lost points.
This guy is rediculous. First paper I got back was an F due to non credible source. I mean c'mon, an F? really? Anywho this guy can't teach. If you listen to his lectures he reads the powerpoints and just rearticulates his words. I thought I would never rate a professor, but i dont want anyone to have to suffer from this guys incompetence.
He's a very nice guy, and the content is pretty interesting, but he can be a difficult grader. You definitely need to keep up with your work and participate in class to do well. Overall, I would recommend the course.
Horrible.
this guy hated me from the first day i met him and it was so obvious, the whole class knew. NO personality, does not appreciate humor beyond a PG level. workload was ridiculous and much of it served absolutely no academic purpose. Unless you are a bio/ensc major, dont bother taking him, you're just going to drop the class anyway
I took this class in high school, passed the AP exam, but due to my major, had to retake the class. Anyway, went in there knowing more than average student. Grades really hard. Told me content was great for work, but took off a letter grade for using MLA format, not his own. If you study and read and talk, you'll do fine. Just review your work.
this is an elective class...the workload during finals week outweighs all my other classes combined, does not clarify on how assignments are graded and makes the class uneasy. Has a reputation with the faculty that ive talked to for being "out there" and insensitive to other agendas aside from his own
This class is physically painful to sit through unless you are a science major. He's very redundant. He made us keep a tree journal. He takes this class so seriously.
You guys are so mean! Dr. Feldman cares so much about his students, what he teaches and the environment. I learn so much in his courses - he's one of the best profs in Science.
Very hard grader, but knows the material and is very good at explaining everything. Tests can be easy if you study. He is a grammar freak so make sure your papers are perfect before handing them in...
If you are looking to fulfill your science credits take this class. It is really easy all you have to do is participate and pick a topic that you are interested and it's an easy A. The project can take some time so don't save it for the last minute.
Dr. Feldman is a wonderful professor. He truly cares about his students and what he teaches. He explains the material clearly and is easy to talk to if you need help. I've noticed that many comments are from intro level classes and aren't true of Dr. Feldman's character as a bio major I've found that he is one of the best bio teachers at Marist.
First of all, Professor Feldman is a really nice guy who encourages his students to participate and do well. He usually showed power points every class which was kinda boring. His tests were a different story...unreasonably hard as well as his grading. I mean common this is a core class, just get ready for an stupid amount of studying.
Dr. Feldman is a great professor! He makes environmental fun, and he really inspires you to do your part and help out in the world. Very interesting course. Do participate a lot, and make sure you are aware of some environmental news to share in class: he'll be impressed if you share! His tests are easy if you read his textbook and take good notes.
Feldman is the man, I don't know why anyone would give him bad reviews. He is very passionate about what he does and really inspires students to do their role to help the environment. A few days before each test he emails you a practice exam that is almost identical to the real exam. All in all, take this class with Dr. Feldman.
Unlike any other class I've taken ever, mostly outdoors, learning from a master naturalist. He is passionate and knowledgable about plants, trees, bugs, you name it, and wants to pass it on to you. Some great fieldtrips. Lot's of work to do on your own but its worth it and fun. Nice guy who shares his experiences.
Dr. Feldman is a very nice professor. He lectures through power points, (he emails them to you also) and sometimes it can get a little dry. His exams are fair, very similar to the review sheets he gives. The textbook is really cheap and helpful if you read the assigned readings. He also assigns news journals which are tedious sometimes.
If you do the study guides you will be fine on the tests. Every single essay question on the tests are the exact same ones on the study guide. Yes, the lectures can get boring but Feldman is very passionate about what he teaches so he makes it more interesting. His grading on writing assignments can be tough but you just need to put in some effort.
Do not take his class, he will look for things to take points off for your essay questions on exams and news journals because he is a stickler on grammar. His lectures are almost unbearable and the worst part about the class is that the only grades are on exams and two news journals, if you do bad on those you'll fail. Which a lot of people do.
All he does is read off powerpoints that he sends you and the sample exams are exactly the same as the tests. Somehow no one does well on the actual tests though, very dry class in general, too. However, he's a super nice guy and obviously loves what he teaches
Worth taking Environmental Science as a Gen Ed Science instead of Bio. Tests are the same as the practice test he gives you. Only thing you have to worry about is the essays on the test cause he's a stickler for grammar and wording. Lectures are long but he's passionate which makes it less boring! Participation is big too. Seriously take his class!
The only grades are on exams and two news journals. No extra credit. Lecture heavy along with power point to follow along during class.
After reading some comments from other raters wasn't sure if I would like this course, but it just kept getting more interesting every week. I learned so much that is relevant to what's happening with our world and how to do my part. He works a lot of videos and pictures into his power points so they stay interesting. Changed my views on stuff.
Best ever course in my 3 years at Marist. I wish there was another course like it. Learned so much during each field trip and even on my own. We had fun each week at different field sites. It was nice being out there with Dr. Feldman getting to know him and also getting to know what he wanted us to focus on at each place. Fair grading.
Wish I'd taken this sooner since I would have changed my major to environmental - really changed my thinking.
Dr. Feldman is an amazing professor. He very dedicated and driven. He is very passionate about environmental issues. Do not take this class "just as a core", it deserves more respect than that. Go to class, listen to the lecture and you will not only do well in class but, learn valuable information.
Should be a required course. Everyone needs to know this stuff. Passionate teacher. Great use of photos and videos.
Feldman and Grinnell are a great pair in the classroom. Feldman explained the science in interesting ways that were clear and related it to what we read. Helped me to appreciate the readings a lot more and appreciate the environment more, too. Doing the field journal really opened my eyes to the world of nature.
The only 8 am class I was excited to get to. Field trips were amazing and convinced me I picked the right major. Learned a lot each time while also enjoying it. Feldman gave us lots of information about each place and what we were looking at. Nice man. Sometimes is was other experts that we met who also taught us; most were real good too
I'm not interested in science, however, Feldman's passion made me enjoy the class and my grade reflected it. Very important information for our generation and he makes it relatable. I learned far more than I expected to. He makes the tests very fair, just show up, pay attention, and use the practice tests. He wants you to succeed & help the Earth:)
This teacher is amazing, he really breaks the topics down to simple and common understanding. If you pay attention in class and do the practice tests then this class will be a piece of cake. I found this class to be one of my favorites so far in college, and got me more interested into the environment than I already was. take him!!
There are only a couple assignments each semester, which is good because its less work but its bad because they count more. The tests are fair because he gives you practice tests with the exact essay questions. Also, the stuff we learned was pretty cool!
Feldman's class was difficult at first because he cares about participation a lot, but it ended up being one of my favorite classes at Marist so far. There's barely any homework and only 3 tests per semester and he even drops the lowest grade. He's very passionate about what he teachers, so the lectures are always interesting.
It is my second time as his student. He is an amazing professor, but he is also a tough grader. I had him for residential and I loved, his lecture is fun, easy to memorize. However, for this course I think he is kind of intimidating, and I am shy, so it wasnt a good combination. Even if my grade is not that good, I learned a lot with him
He definitely cares about his work. We went to the Fern Tor trail across campus & I have never seen someone so interested literally everything. He would stop every two feet to look at & deeply explain a leaf, bug, or acorn. He relies heavily on participation so you have to raise your hand a lot. It is also very lecture heavy so be ready to sleep.
Going out into the field was possibly the highlight of my semester. You get very close with the people in your class as the course work is easier conquered with peers. The flower quizzes were not hard as they are open notes. The tree quizzes were difficult so learn the latin names early and you should be fine.
Professor Feldman is very kind and wants you to succeed. Hes here to help and offers solid feedback. The field journals are not something you can slack off on - theyre big parts of your grade and need lots of time. Hes open to dialogue about your grade and helped me with mine at the end of the year.
I had Feldman for FYS on environmental stewardship. He was kind & accommodating, especially amidst the pandemic. He took feedback on due dates & moved them if we needed more time. Homework was 3 exploratory responses, 5 quizzes, textbook readings, 2 field journals, a research paper & presentation. Final is 2 essays. Not too hard, but do the work!
He's a nice guy and cares about his work, but this class was tough for an FYS. He's a very strict grader when it comes to papers and projects, definitely don't slack off on any big assignments. He was also lenient about changing due dates when needed, but I felt that my work was never good enough for him. Textbook was barely used and expensive.
Lots of my peers did not like Professor Feldman. I personally really enjoyed this course and Feldman. My biggest tip is to read all of his instructions thoroughly and do any workshops he gives you. He likes to see that you paid attention to what he assigns.
Dr. Feldman is extremely smart. He knows every aspect of the environment. For first year seminar, this course was extremely difficult and science heavy. He is a very particular grader, however, he is willing to work with you and provide feedback when struggling. He listens to students and will change due dates when asked. Great with emails.
Professor Feldman is such a caring professor and wants you to succeed. In our Class he did whatever what was possible in order for us to be outdoors and enjoy the outdoors which was fun. But he is a very touch grader and is very picky on what he wants for assignments. He is not strict with extensions and giving you make up dates. Overall not easy.
Feldman is the single greatest teacher/professor I have ever had. He knew all of our names by the end of the first class, and this kind of attitude was kept for the entirety of the class. Assignments are very difficult, especially lab reports. He wants you to do well, and using office hours will do wonders.
Professor Feldman's classes may be on the harder side, but he truly does care for his students. He is so passionate about what he teaches and is very established and intelligent. His feedback makes sense and is helpful. I love him and if you don't mind the work, he is a professor you really should take. It's worth it.
Feldman is a wonderful professor. He is so passionate about what he teaches. I will say however if you are going to take his classes, he grades very harshly and expects a lot from you. There are also some students who don't get along with him as well, just because he has stricter standards. Not the easiest FYS but a great professor overall.
Feldman is an extremely tough grader but in person he is so nice and genuinely enjoys connecting and learning about each and every one of his students
Feldman is passionate about what he teaches which is great. He gives good lectures and is very nice. However he gives a lot of homework and your assignments often become unclear. He has a bit of an ego problem in my opinion which got to be annoying. Overall I liked him.
Great guy and you can tell he cares so much about the environment but taking this as a 6:30 to 9, is very lecture heavy, the textbook is his own book, grading criteria is not explained, very difficult to follow along and understand the material. More of memorization or actually being very interested in the topics.
If Mr Rogers got a doctorate in environmental science. There are multiple in-class activities and videos you'll watch to break up the lectures. The essays and journals are easy if you use the criteria on the syllabus and reference said in-class activities. He's brilliant and highly knowledgeable in so many fields. Totally take this class.
I have to admit that this professor is a good person, but he is not a good educator. We have a 20-question quiz in almost every unit. And it is very challenging, even for the open-book exam; I can't find any helpful information in the notes because the teacher always adds bizarre questions in the quiz that have nothing to do with the class content.
Dr. Feldman clearly cares so much about his students and the material he teaches. The way he delivers lectures with obvious enthusiasm makes it easy to stay engaged and focused, even when the class is long. He listens to students' requests with how class time is used and will allow notes to be used on quizzes if the class wants/needs it. 10/10.
Tough grader and lots of work but definitely worth it
Nice guy, passionate about the environment. However, every assignment is a paper and grading can be brutal. DON'T take unless you are an env science major or you are seriously passionate about the environment.
This was a Honors FYS class that I had no other option of taking and he a very harsh grader. he failed everyone in the class on rough draft paper. Feldman seemed to go very off the course description and i felt as though i was in an enviro 300 class. he had us share our political views the first day of class which was very uncomfortable.
Great guy overall and really cares about the environment. Lots of hands on experience in nature. Cares a ton about his students and you definitely will improve as a writer.
I love Feldman. He is so passionate and genuinely cares about his students. He is a tough grader but as long as you meet with him youll be fine.
He is a very nice guy, but an extremely rough grader. He does not tell you when there is an assignment, he just expects you to read the syllabus the entire semester and have the work ready by when it says. He also is very specific, but since he expects people to go off of the syllabus, he will not explain the requirements for each assignment.
such a caring professor. he is a harsh grader and does not mention when things are due, he just expects everyone to have the work done when the date is on the syllabus. often would have to ask alot of questions to get clarity on assignments and due dates. he took us on fun field trips and was easy going with due dates.
Feldman is a knowledgeable professor who cares deeply about the environment. While his classes are challenging with lots of writing, using Unstuckstudy and the free textbook can really help. Worth taking if you're passionate about the subject.
Feldman is a very enthusiastic teacher. He really focuses on building connections with his students. A lot of his activities are really fun and worthwhile. There is a good amount of homework/reading, and he is a tough grader. I would take him again, great guy.
