One of the best teachers on campus
Really good teacher, he can be a prick with his comments, but very easy going and a great teacher. He does like to run late.....EVERYDAY!!
Great teacher, gets to know his students. He makes class very interesting. Easy grader, but makes up his lessons as he goes. Takes test questions word-for-word from the textbook. I would definitly take another class with him.
Richard makes class fun even if he is an Auburn Fan.
A cool guy, talks to his students about other things than math. The problem though is that he is not always clear when teaching the material. Expects you to know all math terms. I do highly recomend him, but go to class and pay close attention.
if you do the homework the test are easy. he gives out practice tests and has review sessions before the test. really easy class and hes a good professor i recommend him.
This course is very easy. He gives practice exams one week before the tests, and usually goes over all the questions on the practice exams in the review sessions. If you carefully go over the practice exams, it's probably to get 100s. Homework is easy, too. He likes talking about football.
if you want to do well in this course, go to office hours. its an easy course for "math minds" but others beware. he's very friendly and uses fantasy football for 80% of examples. DO THE PRACTICE TESTS. seriously.
ok so he never really knows what hes talking about. Homework is soo anoying, its all on cource compass. I did not learn a single thing from coming to class, you only learn from doing the hw and practice tests. You need to sutdy to do well, and he thinks hes funny.
Ok, so if you know how to study, not rely on the teacher and are smart enough to be in college, you should be able to pretty well in his class. He's not the clearest teacher, but if you just go over the chapters on your own and keep up with the HW, you will get an A. He's a nice guy, especially if you go and talk to him and aren't an ****.
Well lets start off with the fact that this guy, would rather talk about "fantasy" football rather than what he's suppose to be teaching. He's unclear and has no clue on what he's talking about half the time. This professor certainly is not someone to want to have as your math teacher but maybe a high school gym teacher.
goes over material way to quick. attempts to teach 4 chapters in an hr. and 20 min lecture. constantly veers off topic usually with fantasy football or other irrelevant topics. already doesnt give enough examples but chooses to teach calc. methods to solving out problems for stats. worst teacher ive had!
Yes he tries to teach 4 chapters in 80 minutes but he does not take attendance, tests are fairly easy, and 30%of your grade is online homework... he is the chillest guy, easy to talk to and he is very understanding. take his class!
Goes over material a little to fast, but is always willing to help at the end of class. Very friendly and always positive. Tests are quite easy.
doesnt give full credit for homework because his computer wont allow im to grade it. didnt help me at all told me to talk to him at the end of the semester. worst teacher ever, material is dry
Stats is already hard and Ferro doesn't make it easier. All he talks about is fantasy football and he rushes through everything. The notes are over complicated and the Aplia is ridiculous. Just one homework was out of over 100. Don't buy the textbook, the chapters are on aplia.
You teach yourself because class is his special time for fantasy football and politics. I'm retaking the class this summer.
Even the class is boring, GO TO CLASS!!! Do the practice exam and you'll be good! He is not the best professor but he is the easiest. You don't have to take the final if ur first 3 exam+Aplia have an average of 90+. All hw is due on the reading day. He will replace the lowest exam grade with the final If you have to take the final
He is a really nice guy, but not a great teacher. He goes off on rants very frequently, his slides are really confusing, and he inadequately explains the material. I went to his office hours a few times for extra help, and he was not very helpful. Great guy, but he is just not cut out to be a teacher.
He loves to hear himself speak. Doesn't do much other than read off the projector screen. Always talks about sports...Key to passing this miserable class is doing the practice tests.
He does not know how to explain the material effectively. He assumes we understand what he is talking about, but we don't. If I ask him to explain something again, he says it the same way. He is not helpful in office hours either. Do not take this class with him.
Throughout highschool math had never been my thing but I worked for it and I got a decent grade. He however does not give any guidance during his office hours and during class expects people to already know what he's talking about, which we don't otherwise we wouldn't be taking this class. I'm taking it over again next semester.
Goes over questions and uses the guess and check method to see what the answer will be. When you ask for help, he says "It's in the textbook." Terrible professor and doesn't care enough to make sure the students understand the material.
i dont find going to his class useful at all! he just reads whatever is on the powerpoint. and the powerpoint is uploaded on aplia.
HW is on Aplia and 30% of your grade. Every assignment is due all at once at the end of the year. 3 tests and final throughout the year. If final is higher than lowest test he drops the test and replaces with the final. Very very unhelpful if you have a question outside of class. I would recommend not taking a class with him if you could.
mad easy
The only reason i would say Ferro is not the worst teacher is because his 3 tests and final are all from the practice tests he gives on Aplia. Attendance is not mandatory but even if you do go you will learn about fantasy football instead of Stats the whole time.
Straight A student in HS and managed to get a D+ in this class. Because he's useless, talks only about spongebob and fantasy football and if he does talk about stats... it has nothing to do with anything you'll ever see on a test or homework. Would have gotten a 4.0 without this class. Someone fire him already!!
you should take his class if you want to learn about fantasy football. attendance not mandatory everything is on aplia. taking his class is like like teaching yourself statistics
Straight A Student Review: You must come to him if you want help. He's more than willing to meet with students. First 2/3 of the class are relatively easy if you do your work and read the book and complete your homework on time, but the last third is difficult. Great professor, but go to his office hours and do everything on time. not easy not hard
Horrible. Save your time. Talks about football and never goes in depth to explain. Your math skills will actually depreciate.
Mr. Ferro was a great instructor if you are willing to put in the effort! More than willing and committed to offer extra help to help you understand the material.
The class average was in the low 70's when mine was practically 100. If you do your work, study the practice tests, use Chegg for help for the homework problems, you will pass with flying colors. Tests are 23 questions (omit 3). No quizzes. 30% homework, 45% first 3 tests, 25% final. Oh, and get ready for endless discussions about fantasy football.
All he spoke about was fantasy football and other topics irrelevant to his class material. Doesn't make his own slides, doesn't grade his own tests, barely teaches math. Do yourself a favor and avoid his class.
if you're taking this class, take it with someone else. you will NOT learn a thing. he barely teaches (spends most of this time making jokes or talking football), but puts up powerpoint slides so you can study from there, gives hw all due on test days (3 tests, 1 final). honestly, take a professor who might be harder but actually gonna teach you.
My class average was failing all semester. Horrible teacher
Rich Ferro is one of the best professors you can get. His tests are EASY. He is a really nice person. He will help you if you need it. Do not be afraid of him. He is there to help you. Would recommend taking any class you can with him! He is the best!
It seems that he puts minimal effort into his teaching. All of his lectures are from text provided power points. 70% of the lecture he's off topic chatting about football. He can be so rude and condescending too. Stay away!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! I'm a fairly good student. I'm a bio major with a 3.5 GPA and I'd never recommend him. He reads through his slides and is oblivious as to whether or not the students comprehend. He speaks very badly and extremely condescending towards his students. However if your stuck taking classes his class ALWAYS do his practice tests!
Everyone loves complaining about this class, but RF isn't too bad of a teacher. The class is ridiculously easy if you show up and use Chegg for the homework problems. 60-70% of the practice test questions show up on the exam and if you get a 95% test and homework average you don't have to take the final (which was AWESOME for me at least).
I had Rich for two classes. One of the best professors I have had. His tests are very easy and a very easy grader. Rich's lectures get you to understand the material. If you don't understand go see him in office hours. I was there everyday to ask questions. He was willing to help. If you have a 93% or higher average you don't have to take the final
Awesome teacher. Wants his students to pass the course
Statistics was a very tough class for me and he was not very helpful in explaining things. You'll think you understand what he's talking about while you're in class but when you try and do the assignments at home... You don't know anything. He's not clear.
Terrible. Seriously, avoid him at al costs. He makes inappropriate jokes and is very condescending toward students. He expects you to learn without teaching. Talks about fantasy football more than stats. He reads right off the slides and doesn't pay attention to whether his students actually understand. Avoid this teacher.
An okay professor. Better in a classroom setting and very comfortable with students. Can get boring. I went to the math help center a lot to get clarity on the subject and help with the online homeworks and quizes.
His lectures can be confusing at times but during office hours he is way more helpful. He does not try to trick you on tests and gives you a clear understanding of what you need to study in order to do well. He is a joker so if you like boring teachers he is not for you. Overall a really good professor, if you grasp concepts fast you'll do good.
Ferro overall was a terrible teacher. I started off the semester doing well in HW, quizzes, and tests; however as the course began to get harder, the grades got lower. He reads off the slides and does not explain the topics with examples that are useful. He teaches as if we know everything about Statistics, not realizing many of us do not.
Ferro is such a nice guy, very friendly and funny. Amazing person. However as a teacher, he just plain SUCKS. Always talking about fantasy football and spongebob, reads off slides, goes very fast, and honestly doesn't really teach or do practice problems. You're basically teaching yourself. Love him, but do not recommend him AT ALL. Hard class
Ferro is FAST in class so you have to make sure you really pay attention during lectures. Definitely recommend going to office hours he's much more helpful there
DO THE WORK
Hes nice but do not take him for stats. His homeworks and quizes are ridiculous. Theres 11 homeworks and 11 quizes and theyre every week. His lectures are ridiculous. You dont understand anything. You have to learn on your own. Spend most of my time on this class than all others combined. Do not take.
this class is okay, its kind of rough to be honest. he goes really fast through the slides and expects you to just know the material, if you want some real attention, sit in the front & his teaching style isn't really good for a class of that size.
If you do not go to class, you will not pass. His lectures feel like forever. Moves through material relatively quickly so you need to be paying attention the whole time. He is not very clear during lectures so if you want to pass either sit in the front or go to office hours.
His lectures are a bit hard to follow as he goes fast. Will have both Webassign homework and times quizzes. Not too hard. Most helpful to go to office hours. He is always willing to help and will clarify anything you need clarified. Office hours are crucial to passing.
He was super helpful. He puts the lectures online ahead of time along with practice exams and formula sheets. The homework and quizzes are online and aren't too bad. Definitely go to office hours. He will give back points on tests if you ask. Study for tests because there isn't a curve, but if you have a 92, you don't have to take the final.
A knowledgeable and very helpful professor, who cares about his students success. Do go for office hours, and make sure to do all the homework and quizzes in advance. Take time to study for the tests, do not leave till last minute. All in all, a great class.
You have to do the work to pass. Homeworks are a free 100 if you do them. His tests are pretty easy, especially the final if you do the review problems. Not the greatest teacher, but the review class before the exams are very helpful as he tells you what you need to know. Clickers are required, should be easy points
Richard is a nice guy and cares about his students but his teaching is just awful. He speeds through the material on his slides without explaining in detail. He also assumes you know the basics which isn't fair in a 100 level class and sets students up for failure for the rest of the course. The class is lots of work and needs a lot of study time.
Ferro is a great man but not that great of a teacher. He is super helpful when you go to office hours & will explain material clearer when one on one rather than in the lecture hall. His lectures go very quick but he posts his slides online. Allows formula sheets for tests and also posts practice exams online which have the same questions as tests
Ferro would make a better friend than a teacher. He is very smart when it comes to stats, he just doesn't know how to teach it. He's a really funny guy but just teaches way too fast. I wouldn't recommend him.
When I began this course I shared the opinion of many of the other reviews that RF did not clearly explain the material, rushed through lectures, did not answer questions, and continuously went on about fantasy football. In the end, RF devotes a lot of time to review and will tell you all of the formulas you need to ace the tests.
kinda sloppy with teaching and his exams are worth a lot. he doesn't really review- or teach- in a way that I can follow along but in the end i did just fine. hes really knowledgeable outside of stats and thats evident. i found him hilarious. never looked at the textbook whole course. just try a little bit and youll do fine.
If you don't understand what is going on during class, he is super helpful during office hours. He's beyond chill, I missed a few homework's throughout the semester and he gave me extensions every time. Yeah the tests can be hard, but if you do the practice tests then you will be fine, he puts a lot of those questions right on the test.
Not the best at teaching during class, and most of the kids have no idea what's going on. He's much better explaining things during his office hours and helps you out with the homework and quizzes. He might seem tough at first, but he's a really funny guy and a pretty good professor if you put in the work.
I liked him. He applied the material to life situations. He talked about football a lot. Every once in a while he would give us a one question iClickr Quiz. Homework was online, and he normally went over it if people had problems. Tests were fair, I didn't even have to take the final. Really funny guy!
At first I was skeptical or his ability just based on how he presents himself and how he will sometimes write stuff down wrong and take a minute to fix it.. But this Prof has turned out to be a real gem. He really knows what he is talking about and enjoys teaching it. He is also extremely accessible and personable. Down to earth and teaches well.
He is great!
This professor is very hard to learn from, not once in class does he actually teach stats and he is always off topic. He sends 30 minutes each lecture writing what he said the class before on the board but not explanation. HE DOES NO PRACTICE PROBLEMS!!! There is a lot of work you need to teach yourself. Good luck to all of you
Dr. Ferro is a funny guy. He comes to class and talks about fantasy football. He does go off on tangents but he is a smart guy. He shows you what will be on the test the class before the test. He makes jokes and interacts with the students (as long as you sit in the front). If you can't manage at least a B, then it's on you.
terrible teacher. Does not go in depth with ANYTHING and leaves you out to dry. do not recommend this teacher at all. writes formulas on the board and that's it. no people skills, can not talk to the man either. terrible teacher and overall bad oerson.
terrible teacher. Does not go in depth with ANYTHING and leaves you out to dry. do not recommend this teacher at all. writes formulas on the board and that's it. no people skills, can not talk to the man either. terrible teacher and overall bad person.
Ferro's stats class is really easy. All you do is Chegg the homeworks, get the answers and he doesnt even take attendance so you dont need to go to class. Also if you get a 94+ avg on the first 3 tests and all the quizzes and homeworks you are exempt from the final. Just go to his "before test reviews" and make a good study sheet and its an easy A
Go way too fast during lectures and acts like everyone already knows what he is supposed to be teaching. Homework and quiz do every week or so the are online and hard and are most of your grade. There is only a few exams but they are very hard need to study a lot.
He uses webassign not blackboard and for tests he does review sessions for like 3 hours and they are helpful because he goes over mostly everything that is going to be on the test. You also get to use a formula sheet and a calculator on the test. He goes through his lessons really fast and its hard to capture the concept
Ferro is not for everyone, but I really liked him. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, if you want to do well I suggest going. He does go through lessons relatively quickly, but he always asks if there are any questions on the hw, and if there is he goes over how to do it.
He goes off topic a lot. His lectures are very boring because he goes SO fast its hard to pay attention. 1 Hw and 1 quiz/ week, get a chegg helps. Practice tests are way harder than the actual test. If you do not understand something he will do a review in class or even do the hw in class. Go to his office hours and test review you will get an A.
Professor Ferro is the best professor I had this semester. He takes time during class to go over the homework and online quizzes in case you didnt get it. He has limited time to teach everything, so you should going over the slides while doing homework. He also goes over a lot of the test questions beforehand as well.
He teaches too fast, gives confusing notes, and never stays on topic. I stopped going to his class entirely, taught all of the material to myself, and earned an A as well as an exemption to the final. Had I stuck with his horrendous teaching method I would have been completely lost. DO NOT take his class unless you want to teach yourself.
don't take this professor . he's so boring and reads directly from the lecture expecting you to know what's going on.
WORST EVER DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He goes way too fast, makes you feel like an idiot for asking questions, he can't even control his class.. I had to yell at them & HIM because they were yelling over each other in discussion. He is the absolute worst. There's many things I want to say about him, but he'd cry if I roasted him again.
I'm absolutely terrible at math, and I hadn't taken it in 5 years prior to taking Elementary Statistics. He's always available to explain things after and during class, and he makes sure everyone on the brink of failing ends with a passing grade, even though he doesn't round test scores. He's also VERY accommodating and of outside issues
He can't explain math
The worst professor ive ever had. Doesnt give clear explanations and expects you to know everything beforehand. Im not bad at math and have taken higher levels of math before but his class was difficult to comprehend. Its as if he starts in the middle of a lesson every class. do not take.
He does an exemption for the final if you have a 94. I was less than .5 points away and he refused to exempt me. Also, he also took days to respond to any of the class' emails if he responded at all. He's very condescending and answers questions in a way that is almost rude, but you can self-teach the course content. I barely showed up to class.
He doesn't answer emails in a timely manner, nor really "teaches" in class. He will give a formula but will not do any practice questions with it, and won't explain when to use it either. I used khan academy a lot for help understanding the concepts. The one positive is that he gave practice exams out with his question bank.
Professor Ferro is truly TERRIBLE! He gets annoyed if you ask any questions about the material and just gets off-topic too often. The way he teaches makes it extremely hard to follow along. I suggest you pair this class with A+ tutoring because he alone can't teach you. Beware of having a TI-84 calculator because he hates them for some reason.
Ferro is rarely on time with grading, he shows up to class and reads off the slides. The work he puts on the board is messy and hard to follow so invest in Chegg. He scheduled 1 review for the final but didn't include in the email where it would be held. He tries to be funny but fails to understand what comedy is or how to use it appropriately.
His tests are easy and I guess he is a funny guy, but his accessibility is horrible outside of class ,and he never responds to emails, for the final review he didnt even show up, the way he teaches makes it impossible to understand what is going on, but you can get a good grade still in this class because the tests are easy.
go to the review sessions before the tests and you'll pass with an A. he's the best professor I've ever had in UAlbany so far, he's a great person and he's so funny with his jokes. i would definitely take this class again with him and I definitely recommend him.
Notes are not clear. He doesn't 'teach' and goes too fast. Gets annoyed by questions. However, tests aren't that bad. He tells you exactly what's going to be on it. But however, his teaching style is not ideal.
If you don't get an A in this class, that's honestly crazy (unless you don't care and just want to be lazy, then that's fine). He literally goes over the exact questions before the test the day/class before, and you can bring an index card for simple formulas. For this class, you have to be able to count to 10 without using your fingers.
Prof. Ferro doesn't answer emails and makes students feel student when they have a question. Homeworks and quizzes were nothing like the actually exam. He lectures 100mph and the presentations don't help with the test. Would never take his class ever again
Richard's alright, his lectures are monotone, and he reads off the slides. He's not flexible with taking tests early if there are conflicts. The class is basic and a review of high school stats. Watch the lectures and take the tests. He gives you two attempts per question on the test. There was an extra $120 fee to access the assignments and tests.
I think because it is online, and he doesn't realize it, he is skipping over every learning point of the class. He literally sums up what the problem and hardly shows how he got his solution. He talks at a million MPH and his recorded lectures are an absolute mess. I actually feel terrible writing this, because he is a nice guy who cares.
Professor Ferro is honestly one of the nicest professors Ive had. He is always available for help during office hours 3 times a week and will give you excellent feedback to help you get an A. If you complete the homework and quizzes with genuine time and effort the tests will be a breeze and you will easily get an A in the class.
Dr. Ferro is honestly such a nice guy! I went to office hours almost once a week to ask questions about the hw/quiz and he was so helpful and would walk me through whatever I needed help with. His lectures aren't the best but if you pay attention, ask questions and genuinely take your time on hw/quizzes you will do really well!
Prof. Ferro's lectures are a waste of time, he goes too fast and goes off on topics with no connection to what he's teaching. You pay for the textbook so its more useful to learn from that. He likes to pick on students and does not answer his email.
Easily the worst professor I've ever had. He absolutely sucks. He doesn't teach ANYTHING. He skips problems he doesn't like- even when the students are having difficulty with them- just because he doesn't like the question. He talks way too fast, mumbles, stumbles over his words, and gives ZERO short cuts on long/difficult problems.
Professor Ferro basically used the textbook to teach the whole course. Easy A if you do the homework on time and get good text score grades. Easy workload, one of my lighter classes for the spring semester.
I didnt attend any lectures and still received an A. Theres a hw and quiz due every Friday and the quiz is literally the hw so dont worry. Everything can be found online! If youre stuck on a question join his office hours, he will help and give you the answer.
Dude cant teach for his life DONT bother coming to class its a waste of time
He's skips pass alot of explanation and is quick to temper.
I understand that teaching math in a lecture hall is not ideal; however, this man is not the best at teaching. His powerpoint are hard to read with all the speech bubbles that pop up and I barely understand what he is doing. During office hours, he just gives you the answer and doesn't help you to understand.
DO NOT take this class unless you are prepared to teach yourself or pay for a tutor. This professor is awful and just expects you to understand things and if you don't it doesn't matter because the whole class is probably as lost as you are. He lectures the whole time and you don't learn a thing. Worst math class I have ever taken.
This man gets way too much hate. I honestly don't know how people are doing bad in this class. We are given an index card for every test and we literally get 4 on the final. Tests are made up of vocab, t/f, and short answers and he literally tells us how to do the short answers before we take the test. Weekly hw and quizzes which are easy.
Honestly while he is not the best teacher, he makes getting a good grade insanely easy. Gives you the exact layout of each test the class before, allows you a notecard to write stuff down for the test, the homework and quizzes online are very easy and free points. Only downside is his writing is not legible. Overall, definitely take this class
We had 1 quiz & 1 hw a week on mindtap. The assignments are both lengthy, can't do it in an hour or two. I got a 90 average on all my quizzes & a 94 average on all my hw. I'm a bad test taker & got a 46 average on my exams. I cant believe out of the 25+ hw & 25+ tests I failed the class with a 55(D-). The class average is a 59. FERRO DOESNT CARE!
Practice tests don't match the actual test besides a small section, homework, and quizzes online are very time-consuming and you will have to teach yourself as he is fast pace. The good thing is he allows a flashcard on the test.
The Professor loves to teach class in a very fast paced way that really just makes it hard to keep up with the content. He won't teach you how to find the actual answer w/o doing the work but instead use the tools that webassign offers. (i.e. SALT). If you ask questions that seem obvious to him then he will make you look like you're not learning..
Arguably the worst teacher I have had in my entire college career. He goes through an 80 slide powerpoint in about 15 minutes. I am sorry but you should reconsider your profession.
This professor just isn't good. His slides have around 60-80 pages and he goes through them in minutes. He is super unclear and expects everyone to know what to do based off highschool knowledge. My only advice to you is to avoid this class at all costs! Even when students are confused and do poorly on exams, he will not curve.
Goes through lectures at mach speed and gets pissed off when his students says he doesn't understand what's going on because of it. The homework is extremely useless because literally none of it is on the test. The only good thing about this class is you know exactly what's on the test cuz he goes over it.
I would not recommend him at all. It kind of feels like sometimes he doesn't really care if the whole class is failing, he will not do anything to help improve your grade. My class had an average of 62 and he does not allow extra credit or curve grades. His test are very difficult and not easy to pass. Pro: he is always available for office hours.
Literally all you need to receive an 85+ in this class is show up to the review classes before each test. His reviews mimic the tests. Take good notes during the review class and if you have any questions, he's willing to meet during office hours. Be respectful to him and show him that you care about the class and he will be willing to help.
