Hard Grader, and did not learn anything

He's a difficult teacher but he is very interesting and funny. If you show that you put effort and time into the essays it's not difficult to get a B.

You have to do the work and actually try on your essays but if you try you can get a decent grade. Just dont be lazy

He is a really cool guy...but don't be fooled...you are going to write a lot of papers in his class. He grades quite hard as well.

this guy is wierd. half the time assignments have no direction. loves grammar. prepare to write a ton of papers. if you go to office hours he will cut you slack and give you a better grade, but be prepared he is wierd and unclear. get a different prof

Interesting teaching style. Class is not easy because the instruction is very general. If you like a very strange sense of humor take this class. If not I would avoid at all costs.

This man absolutey loves the "Keys for Writers" book. Make sure you pick up a copy or else your grade will be done for. Though he often lacks clarity, he's a really nice guy if you get to know him. Go to his office hours!

I you're looking for a good history class you might like this course. But if you're thinking you're signing up for RWS, forget it. He doesn't know how to teach it.

he grades like a nazi, be prepared to write way too many essays on dense topics. While everyone else is writing an essay about their summer vacation, finn makes you compare the communist manifesto to hannah arendt and totalitarian govts. Good LUck, you'll need it

Finn can be rather awkwards at times, but he does know what he is talking about. Nice guy, boring class.

He can be ridiculous at times but if you can put up with his antics and do the work you'll get an easy A. He constantly talks about history, the war on terror, and politics in general so if that's not your thing you probably wouldn't want to take his class.

Class was boring. Most of the texts were hard to understand and he is not much help. Isn't clear on grading or what he wants on essays. No midterm, in class essay final.

English class or War in the Middle East Class? It was very hard to tell sometimes. Finn is one of the hardest graders I have had so far. Participate in class, go to office hours, get on his good side, and you will get an A on everything. Otherwise, be prepared for a lot of C's or D's on normally A quality work. Too risky, I dont recommend taking.

Talks about Iraq A LOT and not really about writing. I liked the homework sharings, it helped me fix my papers. if you can take this class with someone else, do it, too bad they don't give you a choice!

does not use blackboard. grades on 3 or so essays. i failed all the quizes, got a D on the first essay, C on the 2nd essay, and i have no clue what i got on the 3rd, but i got a B- in the class. pretty surprised. i guess he liked me because i helped with discussions. cool guy. talks about the war and only the war, but better than other english stuf

I had to write more essays in this class than anyone else I knew in RWS. If you go into office hours he'll grade easier. He thinks he is teaching a history class.

He is a nice guy, and can be funny (in a cheesy way), but the class was just really boring. The reading material and essays were ok but I don't think I learned how to write better, though. Maybe it's my own doing, I don't know. Just another GE class you'd have to go through.

Most of the people who leave comments are upset about teaching so they leave more negative statements. He isnt the greatest teacher, but its RWS 200, you should already know how to write an essay. No homework and a few essays that he grades fairly. He used to correct the WPA and knows what he is talking about. Yeah its almost like history, but W/E

Prof Finn is very approachable and understanding. He encourages group discussion and is truly interested in what his students have to say. He is frequently caught saying, "That's a good point!" When it comes to the assignments/papers, if he thinks a student can do a better job by re-writing a paper he will suggest you do it.

He focuses strictly on the war. He is really quite eccentric and the papers are graded strangely. I would recommend a different teacher. If you do have him, add to discussions.

i was forced to take this class which sucked so i was pissed. the class itself was boring as hell but the guy is realy funny which helped. he is unclear about points in the class. he acts like its all good but is a tuff grader so watch out. all in all glad i had him but still hate the class.

GO TO CLASS ITS MANDATORY, EVEN THOUGH HE IS BORING AND ITS A WASTE OF TIME. DO THE 6 OR 7 ESSAYS (750 WORDS) AND GET THEM REVISED AND YOULL BE FINE I THOUGH I WAS GOING TO FAIL BUT GOT A (C+) AND WAS REALLY CLOSE TO A (B-). HE IS NOT THAT BAD TRIES TO BE FUNNY BUT IS NOT AND IS CONFUSING A LOT OF THE TIME. DONT GIVE UP ON THE CLASS.

HORRIBLE!! He is very unclear in what he wants. He asks for a series of short essays and makes you cut them down to a page. He tells you to revise them, but never really gives you much feedback on how to do so. AVOID!!!

Professor Finn is a very politically motivated teacher. He likes to use current and contriversal issues as his platform for "critical thinking" excersises and timed writing. He likes to use group analysis to help build the writing process, which can be bad if your group could care less. The bottom line is don't take this class unless you are a comp
