Great Guy!
Best first year prof I had.
Excellent physics prof.

Best Prof on the go
He's the nicest prof ever, funny too.
lectures are really clear, logical; funny guy
I was not his student but he was so willing to help me out anyway so many times
He's a Great Teacher, so willing to help you, and a very funny guy :)
Excellent Prof
Nice guy. Very funny. Great Professor!
Usually helpful, marks fairly. The course is terrible but that's not his fault.
Great Prof, knows his stuff. relates physics to day to day knowledge. Always helpful.
Funny, encourages students to do well
awesome is all that has to be said ..his class's are interesting
Physics is not by subject but this instructor makes the course great! He is really smart but can come down to the level of his students, and make the material seem much easier then it is. He has a great sense of humor and great notes!!!
He's ooookay but not amazing. He doesn't prepare you well for the exams, or maybe it's just that the text sux.
Good teaching, excellent outlook at overall subject. Bring physics into everyday examples and useful knowledge. Could give better final and exam study guides.

Gives very good lectures and is very helpful in the Lab. What out for the final however!
He is a great and caring teacher....During our first lab he went around and took everyone's picture so he could remember all his students faces....tests are not bad if u study
Excellent Prof! He helped me out alot, and made everything seem so much simpler than I thought it was. Does anyone else think that he looks like Lucas on Days of our Lives??
Amazing. Really involved in his classes and makes a real effort to keep his classes fun and interesting. Best MUN prof I'm come across so far
He is awesomely involved in his class. To demonstrate projectiles he juggled... nice!!
If he makes me want to go to physics class he has to be good... Really wants you to do well. I bombed my quiz, yet there were enough part marks for little things that he found to get a pass. And *shamefully shakes head* he does kinda look like Lucas...
wicked prof. AND he can write backwards. I enjoy his random, irrelevant stories, as well as his juggling, movies, and frisbees.
he is a really great professor, i love him, he has great notes and tests, but he could improve his hand writting though!! haha
Great prof, but throws frisbees, tells irelevant stories that trail off into nonsence (very funny as it confuses even himslef), but mostly teaches great, if at first first test is easy, wait for the second...
gr8 explanations
Goulding for life yo, he's good all around, and is a laugh....wants his students to do well
Best prof. I've had at University. Period.
Bets prof ever!! Know what hes talking about, very helpful, and funny!! I highly reccomend
Great fun to listen to, keeps things interesting, wants everyone to do well, great to look at!
Rick tries to make classes interesting by telling stories and bringing in toys that relate to the topics being lectured. He cares about his students and how they do, and tries to make the tests as fair as possible. He is a good marker too !! Great guy !!
awesome teacher, I would recommend him to anyone taking physics. Very helpul explanations and lots of problems given on projector.
Excellent, excellent prof!!! good notes and examples. Explains the topics in a very clear manner. Makes Physics interesting!!
haha EXCELLENT PROF!! wait till he gets that arobie out and hits it with you with it lol. even takes a picture of every individual person to take home and memorize... or something like that...
An EXCELLENT professor. Very well-spoken, challenges students, but is also quite helpful. Makes a point to know all students, and is generally warm-hearted and funny.
Awesome prof. Can't wait for Physics 1021
Amazing
GET THIS PROF IF POSSIBLE!!! Dr. Goulding is by far one of the best profs I've ever come across. Very helpful and understandable. Makes physics fun.
AWESOME!
Pretty good prof...nice guy and good notes GET IN HIS CLASS!!
very good professor! i had him for 1020 and 1021. get him if at all possible he's great. he actually makes physics fun and interesting. but watch out for his finals!!
Good notes but his tests and exams can be tough!
Great prof. 4 years later and he still gives me a smile!
Great guy!Very helpful and bright. Some questions on his exams are tricky, but they are also interesting as well.
Great professor, clear and interesting.
Dr Goulding is an amazing prof. Get in his class!! Even if you dont like physics you'll want to go.
He is wicked prof! Really fun and easy to understand. His tests and exams are reasonably easy.
The Best!
crazy good prof. Very clear and gives very good examples. Keeps you entertained in class too.
Best prof ever!
Excellent proff! Best ever! Actually makes you like physis, and want to go to class! Definlty get in his class if possible, he's great!

Brilliant prof, great notes, funny guy. Definetly recommended!
best prof ever,
Good guy, a little eccentric, but good prof
He's an excellent professor. One of the best I've had. I'm not a math person in the least but physics was my favorite course this semester. Lectures are crucial to attend and his optional tutortials are excellent. He's a very helpful man who obvisouly cares about how well his students do.
the best prof you could ever imagine having! cares about his students, answers emails, teaches everything you need to know, and is really funny too. he's crazy, i guantee you'll absolutely love him!! take his course if possible
Needs to give more explanations...more detailed...but still a very good prof
this course no longer exsists, but it was great while it lasted. hes a great prof, very easy to talk to and joke with. helpful, knows his stuf, likes to make physics jokes. :)
Awesome professor. If you HAVE to take physics and aren't good at it, definitely get Rick.
Excellent Prof! He gives really good notes. He knows his physics very well and teaches it well. His lectures are very "interesting", as he usually gives demonstrations and tells jokes. GET IN HIS CLASS.
Fantastic professor. Makes physics interesting with his nerdy physics jokes. He has a lot of fun in the class, but still gets the work done. Flexible on assignments if you speak with him. Has a passion for physics and comes through in a positive way.
He's a great guy. Hilarious and very approachable. Took his class a couple of semesters ago. I'm really not fond of physics but he made it bearable to learn (along with good and caring lab demontrators). He has something special bout him, and is a sweet guy.
Just plain awful.
really coll teacher
He may be exciting and friendly but when it gets down to it the examples he gives are pretty useless when you get to doing your assignments.
He seems to truly care how his students do in the course, great for first-time physics students like myself. He also seems to have a genuine passion for his subject. Sometimes the in-class examples don't reflect what's on the assignments or tests.
Very good professor. Tests can be tricky but as long as you work hard you should be able to get an A or B. He makes class very entertaining. Easily the best first year physics professor.
Awesome prof! Hilarious, used good examples to help you understand, and all around great guy:-) If you can get in his class, DO IT!
sees himself as funny his examples suck and not really that helpful
Comprehends that most of us have never done Physics, and so teaches without the complexity that profs use.
Rick is a pretty good teacher. He keeps class fun and tells stories. He goes through examples inclass, but the tests are alot harder than questions on CAPA and what are done inclass. Really cares about students. Overall great guy!
Goulding's lectures are pretty solid but if you don't understand everything right away you can forget about getting any help whatsoever from him outside of class. Also, he doesn't seem to have much respect for anyone else's time other than his own.
this prof has excellent lectures but he does not cover alot of material on assignments, only for the book I would have gotten zero's on the capa's. He is an excellent marker however.
Good teacher, get in his class, and he'll get you through physics 1020/1021. Makes an effort to get to know his students, still says "hi" to me when I see him on campus even though he doesn't really know me ;)
AWESOME PROF. Really helpful and a nice guy in person. Always ready to help students and really cares about how students perform. However, you will have to work in his class - do the capas, do well in your labs and study hard for your finals. He'll pay you back at the end of the year ;)
Rick explains things very well, and his tests are fair and the marking is fair. His examples aren't always related to the CAPA, but he's always more than willing to help you out if you need it !! I would definately recommend him!!
He is an awesome proff,he made me like physics.I recommend him to everyone.I did PHYS 1020 with Shorlin and I got 74 and then I did PHYS 1021 with Goulding and I got 87, so that says alot about the guy. Hes amazing, besides hes the one that writes the finals so it is wise to take his classes because every now and then he throws major hints.
You are making a mistake if you do Physics and don't get Goulding!!! He is a great prof, recognizes people for their hard work and extra effort. If you don't understand something he is anxious to help, and does not belittle you because you don't get it. He is very lenient, laidback, and funny. Go Goulding!
Excellent first year physics prof. Makes a effort to get to know his students. very helpful when need be.
He makes the class interesting and gives good examples. He is also really funny.
I dropped the course. Nothing to do with Goulding, just I found Physics wasn't really for me. I kind of feel bad for dropping his class though. He is really amazing - funny, helpful and overall a good guy. If you're the type who enjoys Physics, definitly get into his class.
He is a very nice guy, who loves to tell jokes and make class as fun as possible(considering it is physics). I found some of his examples were too simplified to do much of the capa assignments, but he was always there to answer questions.
Goulding is an amazing prof. Honestly, if you've never taken physics before you have to get Rick as a prof. He's funny, nice, and gives amazing notes. : )
This man is an AMAZING prof. He ADORES physics so he loves teaching it, and he does an awesome job! He is one of the profs at MUN who are truly meant to be profs. He cares about his students too and wants you to do good. He is also extremely funny! Definitely make sure you get Dr. Goulding if you take physics!!
Rick is an excellent prof! He is really funny and even though i don't enjoy physics i enjoyed going to his class. He do truly care about how well you do and is always there to help. I agree that his examples are way easy compared to capas. But overall definitly get Rick for a prof!
Great guy. Makes the material understandable. Study and do CAPAs and you'll be fine.
Like everyone else said, Goulding is a great prof. He's also very welcoming if you go see him in his office. My physics skills improved A LOT while I was taking his course.
He is a nice guy and is very funny, but I find his notes are not at all helpful for capas and tests. He wastes too much time with real world examples that have nothing to do with the school work. Hes a nice person, but he just needs to teach better material, the stuff he teaches is too easy compared to the assigned work!
Rick is a great professor! He likes what he teaches, and it makes you like it too. He's extremely friendly and helpful, and actually cares if you pass or fail the course. He also has pretty cool (and sometimes funny) pictures up on WebCT. I would definitely recommend him!!! :-)
A very energetic teacher. Obviously enjoys what he does. He had good notes and made lectures fairly itneresting. I would recommend him. :)
He's hilarious, text book isn't used a lot in class but it'd be a good idea to reference it for examples. But overall he's a deadly teacher.
Goulding is alright. He certainly enjoys what he does and he brings that to his lectures. However, I found that his notes were never clear and at times did not relate to the CAPA assignments. Not my favorite prof.
Awesome prof! Cares a lot about his students, and is willing to help you in any way that he can! He does make pretty tricky tests though ... but often gives good Christmas Gifts :) (ie bonus marks if the average is low). Do the work and he makes physics very fun and interesting!
Apparently he is better than other profs but he does fall behind easily and a lot!! He rambles on about useless examples that do nor help. He acts as though everyone has done Physics in high school and travels through everything fairly quickly. Overall I would recommend this prof because he is the better of a few evils.
Not really understanding why this guy has such good ratings... he's TERRIBLE at teaching physics. Mostly he just tells stories trying to make physics "simple" but honestly his tests are 10000% harder than the material he teaches. If you have him, I would recommend doing every example in the text possible, and going to the help center.
Ppl that don't do good in this course are those that don't even know where the help center is!Rick is great.but u have to practice examples from the book, and do all the Capa's and put alot of work into this course.Rick only gives u the concepts and u have to apply them.i have to say tho,he does give tricky exams.
Great professor. Really cares about his students, and is extremely helpful. He wants to get to know each and everyone he teaches. Went to his office one time and he knew my name, and we had a nice convorsation about the course. Tests were a bit more difficult, but he did give bonus marks or take adjust marks as "gifts". Highly recomended!
Very smart. CAPA's can be very very hard and he doesn't really help that much.
Excellent professor. I never took physics in high school and university was my first time doing physics, and although i did struggle with the courses (1020/1021) I managed to get high 70's in both courses. Rick is a wonderful prof but he can be a bit on the rude side.
makes class interesting with references to running shoes and juggling
He is a very good teacher, but can slso be very rude. He doesnt explain everything very good but when he does he is very good at it. Tends to get off track A LOT!!!! thus making some sections of the course rushed
excellent professor! loves teaching physics. i never took physics before but he makes everything clear. grading is really fair. easy to get high 70s in his course. he is a really funny professor and always has a reference. get this prof and you wont regret it!
Fantastic. VERY good teacher as well an entertaining. i will go out of my way to get him again for my next physics course.
Rick Goulding is a pretty good prof. You lean early on that you need to "Draw a Picture" to be able to solve various problems. Plus he tells funny stories with some of his examples and even does sound effects for various senarios.
Great prof, cramps stuff into my head at a rapid pace. Listening to this guy really cuts down on my study time.
He tries his best to make his class interesting, his notes are great. The questions in the CAPA assignments are somehow unrelated to tests and exams, CAPA is just a practice. You will get a good grade provided that you have taken physics before.
AMAZING prof! Tells you what you need to know!. Listen to him and you will do really good in the course. I find physics really boring, but he made it interesting with his examples and the way he taught the lecture!
Hes pretty funny. Remembers everyone in class too, and takes your piture at the beginning at the semester. He tries his best to make everyone understand. Really good if you haven't don't physics before. He is really enthousiastic about physics too.
Hilarious.
Amazing teacher, I had never taken physics before and he really did a great job and making the material understandable. He's really funny and uses lots of real examples, if you have the opportunity to have him as a prof, TAKE IT!
This guy is awsome. So funny, and know's how to make people understand the material. He is a great help in the labs and outside class. RECOMMENDED for everyone!
Totally tubular. This guy clearly wants everyone to succeed, and there is definitely no trouble in doing that with him. He makes it seem as if we are all just friends talking about physics. And really, maybe we are. Reccommended highly.
Excellent first year physics prof. I highly reccomend that you pick Goulding, whether you have physics experience from high school or not.
If you've never taken Physics before this is the prof you want. He creates a great lecture learning atmosphere, and is never to wise to crack a few hilarious jokes.
Tests and exam are kind of tricky. He shows you useful tips in class but you need to read the textbook (ideally before material is covered in class) to do well.
I found him very interesting to listen to. Physics is pretty hard for me, but he made me understand it fairly well. Great teacher!
Very Helpful and easy to listen to. Makes it interesting
Great prof! He explains things well and is very approachable. By the end of the class he will know your name and all of his other student's names. He tries really hard. He'd be a great prof for someone just learning physics and is good for those with past experience in it. Take his classes!
Really nice, friendly and makes class interesting. 1020 was a lot drier but I think it was just the material. I actually thought 1021 was really interesting and physics is definitely not an interest of mine. He is really funny and tried to show as much interesting stuff as possible. Overall really great prof.
Rick Goulding is very passionate about Physics. Before taking this course with him,I thought Physics was boring, but his excellent teaching skills really got me interested in it! I enjoyed every minute of his class! In my opinion, he is also an easy marker.
Had him for 1020/1021. Great prof. One of those very smart guys who can actually teach students with little prior knowledge. See him after every test and get 3-5% more marks.
My favourite prof of first year! He is the most clear and precise man. He is extremely helpful and for the most part he even attends labs to help students out!Would highly recommend him. You dont even need the textbook.
Best Physics Prof at Mun. He makes the class interesting and fun, and brings physics to the real world. Funny guy, fairly easy marker, and makes class enjoyable. DEFIANTLY RECOMMEND!!!!!
He's a great teacher :D if you want to have a fun class choose the one he is teaching! Very easy to understand and learn new things with him :) Keep up with the loncapa and you should do great!
I highly recommend Rick, especially if you have no background in physics. He is very helpful &a fairly easy marker. If you are struggling meet with him, he will do his best to help you do your best! Class is not mandatory but definitely helpful. Oh and do the loncapas, they?re free marks and a great way to study!
Easy to understand, good teacher. Tests are long, but fair. Very friendly.
I took Physics 1020 and 1021 with Rick back in 2005. I had no interest in physics and was only taking the course to meet a requirement for entrance into pharmacy. Rick was such a good prof that he sparked my interest in physics and I am now a civil engineer! I cannot speak highly enough about this man! Thanks for the inspiration Rick!!!
Awesome prof!! Definitely recommend him to anyone that wants to do well. He wants everyone to do good in the course, although his tests are difficult he wants you to get the best grade possible and on our last midterm he even dropped a question for us to increase our mark! Loved him.
Good prof! He's funny, but good at explaining things. He forces people to do things like loncapa books which seem annoying during the course but are super helpful in the end.
Really funny and made the class very interesting. Definitely one of the best profs at MUN!
A huge help and a really funny guy. If you've done physics in high school you'll ace this class!
Dr. Goulding is AWESOME. Hands down, if you can take his class do it. He is friendly, helpful, and has a passion for physics. He makes and effort to know your name which is nice. He stresses on the importance of the Loncapa assignments which only benefit you in the end so do them. Great class great teacher.
He's an alright prof and tries his hardest for you to do well, and definitely does his part but as a student who did high school physics, I found his teaching methods to be a little confusing. Overall he's alright. Do the work and you will succeed.
He is very helpful and makes learning physics very easy. I took this course as my science requirement for an arts degree and in the end it made me switch to a full blown physics major. I would recommend this prof to anyone. Material was very straightforward and all the exams were fair. Very good prof
I had a good knowledge of physics in high school, and this course is the exact same concepts. Rick is interesting to listen to, and good about deadlines. The constant CAPA assignments suck though, and his tests are absolutely BRUTAL. Be prepared to study for this course more than any other, or you will have a hard time with this course.
Dr. Goulding is fairly used to teaching first-year introductory Physics. While he doesn't mind answering questions, he can come off as a bit abrupt or blunt at times. That said, he's always a fairly involved professor, occasionally extending assignment deadlines and such to help his class out. Overall a fairly good professor.
I got an A in the course, but it was brutal. Goulding is an angry man, I think it's because he's just so fed up with teaching first year physics courses. Not very approachable and will often make you feel stupid. He doesn't like you coming up to him and saying "How do I do this question?" without trying, and refuses to help. Tests are BRUTAL.
Goulding was a great prof! He really tried to get to know all of his students, even in such with such a large number in his class. He really explained the course material well and wanted all of his students to do good! I would HIGHLY recommend Goulding for any other physics courses!
Dr. Goulding earned his place as Undergraduate Physics program coordinator by being a down-to-earth, reasonable and humorous first-year physics professor. Best man on campus in my opinion.
Rick really cares. He wants you to do well. He's been teaching for a while and he knows what works. He tries to make physics as interesting and relatable as possible. He gives lots of practise and lots of ways to earn marks, other than tests. Tests were fair. Perfect fit for an introductory physics course.
Great professor! Would take again!
Engaging teacher, not very approachable
Rick was a great prof - very nice and approachable. He really talked and got to know his students (especially in the labs). He gives long and hard tests though. Math comes very naturally to me but I struggled each test just to finish it. Assignments are easy and most answers can be found online. Ended up with A. Much better than the other phys prof
Very good lectures and very funny. Tough course for first time physics students but he makes it manageable. Make sure to go to all classes and keep on top of the work.
goulding is a very funny guy and keeps things interesting. although he goes over things very quickly, he is there for his students when he needs it. if i had to do physics again i would take him
Rick is such a nice guy, I think it's impossible not to enjoy his geekiness. He makes everyone laugh every lecture while he's demonstrating concepts. He is there for his students, and the assignments ( while long) help prepare for his fair tests. Don't expect an easy A if you've never done physics but if you put in a bit of work you will rewarded
Good professor with clear teaching abilities and ability to add some comedy to the lectures.
Awesome Prof! Super helpful and kept lectures interesting. Go to class for the QR sheets you get easy completion marks for those! Make sure you get your MP book Signed off b/c its worth marks to show your work! His tests are a little hard so you need to do practice problems to get good and quick. Fantastic prof! Does lots of examples!
Rick Goulding is absolutely hilarious. His vibrant personality makes lectures very interesting. His notes aren't very good although he does post them online. If you haven't done physics before then I definitely wouldn't choose him because the course is difficult and he doesn't explain concepts well. Midterms are very difficult and unfair.
Lectures, labs and exams are all in a fast pace. He is a coach to teach you how to study. I did poor in high school but got 96 in this class ALL BECAUSE I DID ALL THE HARD WORKS HE ASSIGNED. I'm glad I took this class in the first year. He really let me know why I didn't do well in physics before. Now I'm even gonna transfer to a physics program!
a bit of a scatterbrain but he's pretty funny in class, tests and and assignments are hard. gives bonus assignments online. didn't even use the textbook
Professor Goulding is a great guy. He really makes the effort to try and get to know all of his students. Physics can be a very difficult subject if you have a confusing teacher, but this was certainly not the case with Rick. He gives plenty of examples and his instruction is clear. If you ever needed extra help, Rick's door is always open.
Goulding is hilarious! I loved going to his class, he always made his lectures engaging. His tests are tough and very long for 50 minutes, but the final can replace a midterm mark. The weekly assignments are outrageously long and on average took about 10 hours to complete, the help centre saved my life. Overall a great prof, would recommend!
Rick is one of the best profs I have ever had. He has so much energy, and he's very positive and caring. I started out in 1020 wondering how I'd even pass, but got an 89%. Now I'm declaring as a Physics/Applied Math major. I couldn't have done it without him. He gets to know EVERYONE, and does so much to help his students. Lectures are fun too!
I would not take this prof again. On several occasions I've emailed him and he hasn't answered, and when I brought it up in person, he refused to answer my questions. Very long online assignments that take forever to do. Gives in class questions that count as participation marks. Tests are very long and hard to finish on time.
Tests are very long and sometimes challenging, I didn't have time to check over my answers or fix mistakes. Can make lectures fun by showing videos and demonstrations but to get a participation mark you have to hand in sheets which means you have to go to class. The course is still challenging if you've done physics before and tests are not easy.
Great physics prof. Best if you read the notes ahead of class. Gives in class questions which count towards grade. Nice man and funny, lectures are fast-paced but detailed.
Have never done physics before in my life and Richard honestly made it much easier to understand. Easy to get ahold of and is always there if you need to talk to him or ask questions! He really likes to get to know his students! overall best prof, just a hard course (has nothing to do with him) gives many examples in class, and tests were fair :)
Rick is chill when you're on his good side. He's very unapproachable anytime whether in or out of class. He knows what he's talking about when it comes it physics but he isn't very good at teaching. He brought his mom in to our last lecture. Taking a different prof next semester.
He can be sassy sometimes , I though he had prejudice against me ,but no he can be rough sometimes when you go to his office hours , one of the best prof I have had. Don't get the wrong idea he is really nice and caring .
Goulding is a good prof. Prepares you well for the course and gets first years into the groove of university. He is hilarious and gives good lectures, and posts the lectures online.
Goulding is great, very approachable and a funny guy. He made learning physics a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. He posts all his notes online, but his assignments are ridiculously long.
A great prof for this course. Does lots of examples so if you follow along with him you'll be fine. Very funny, tells small jokes and stories to keep you entertained. Overall a great guy.
Great prof. Pay attention to the specifics. Makes lectures fun and interesting. Will know your name by the end of the semester !
rick is a tough grader, did well in physics in high school but not doing as exceptional in his class, gives good notes and has good lectures but definitely not my favourite prof
Rick is a tough grader and expects a lot from his students. There is a lot of work to his courses but he is a nice guy and makes lectures fun. Hes a prof there for a love of teaching and he genuinely cares for the success of his students. He will curve tests and help you succeed if you try.
Great prof, will help you as much as he possibly can!
My favourite prof by far this semester. He is so caring of all of his students even though he has a lot of them, and takes the time to get to know you. He is very fair about marking and will help boost marks if you go to see him. He makes lectures interesting. Overall, he's an excellent prof and I can't wait to take his class again next semester.
Dr. Goulding is a nice guy, but very unorganized in his teaching. His notes were handwritten and very messy/hard to understand. The online assignments would be 30+ questions long and would take most people upwards of 8 hours to complete. Tests were nothing like what we learned in class. Overall, would never recommend.
Plenty of demonstrations in the lecture hall. Assignments are time consuming but are amazing prep for tests. He makes sure people understand the material and is willing to replace a bad quiz mark if the rest are good. Best prof I had in my first year and I looked forward to his lectures. Makes you collect tests from his office to discuss marks.
Rick is really funny in class and lectures are interesting. I took the course in high school so didn't find midterms difficult. However assignments were very long, difficult and frequent, but a great grade booster! Sometimes when I approached him outside of class he came off a bit cold, but it may have been an off day because he's awesome in class!
Amazing prof. Go to class and do your assignment and you will do great. He is always accessible to students if help is needed.
There are a lot of assignments in the class but he is great for giving easy marks with his QR sheets and Mastering Physics assignment book. He is very funny and engaging in his lectures.
He is really good and super hilarious in his lectures. There are lots of opportunities to get some extra marks like QR sheets, Assignments and even take home problems. The only negative thing I would say is that he can tend to write super tiny and kinda messy, like his solutions are hard to follow and are just a mess.
Rick is a great guy that really cares about his students. His tests are fair (but long - beware of time) and he helps you prepare for them. He posts everything online, including tons of practice material. He is always around if you need him, and makes an effort to talk to students. His classes are fun and easy to follow. He made me love physics!
Few examples done in lectures, goes very fast, unorganized notes
Amazing professor! Makes lectures interesting but does fly through material! Posts notes on D2L and gives good feedback to homework. If extra time is needed on Mastering Physics he will give a few more days. But tests are very difficult and extremely long. Is very understanding and wants all students to excel. Overall great experience.
Dude is awesome. Lectures are a bit dry (it's physics so what can you do?) but he makes them as interesting as he can with demonstrations and videos. Posts his completed notes online but they're hard to follow if you didn't pay attention in class. Tests are very fair and he's always eager to help. Would recommend to anybody!
Rick is a good guy. He means well but does very few examples in class. Assignments are very long and tests are very lengthy and a lot of the substance on midterms is much more advanced than the examples done in class and in the textbook. I would probably not choose Rick again.
Richard is a nice and funny guy however I would not recommend him for physics 1020. His exams are difficult and so long that you have no chance of getting them finished. He posts practice on d2l however they never compare to the questions he puts on his midterms. I came out of high school physics with 90+ and barely passed his first test. Avoid.
He's a great guy and means well but there is so much homework in the weekly assignments and his lectures are very hard to follow. When reviewing his notes, his workings are very messy and unorganized. Exams tend to have harder questions on them compared to what is covered in class.
Richard is a great guy who means well, however his lectures are very hard to follow and too many weekly assignments that are 3+ hours long. It's a lot of work, especially for a student with zero background in physics. It was a tough class, and his tests were much harder than questions done in class. They were very long, and impossible to finish.
Really good prof for a first year student, does anything he can to help you get through the course.
Rick was a good prof overall. This was the first time ive ever done physics so I expected it to be difficult, and it was. He definitely makes his students work for a good mark. but, if you go to class, do the homework questions and put in the study time you will do fine. His assignments and midterms were hard but he wants students to succeed.
Great prof, really tries to help you, you just have to be willing to go and ask for help. If you put in the time and effort, you will be rewarded, he notices (extra credit)! He always is willing to meet out of class. GO TO CLASS. it's not mandatory but how else would you understand the material? Book isn't required but super helpful nonetheless!
Will make little mistakes (such as dropping symbols, multiplying twice or change numbers in middle of examples) and cannot correct right away because lectures are asynchronous, making it hard to follow along. Extra credit on some Mastering assignments but tests are WAY TOO LONG. Says 2 questions when in reality its more like 4. Really caring though
He provides students with so many opportunities to obtain easy marks and make up in areas where they could have done better (like on a midterm). I was able to set up meetings to ask questions and get demonstrations of practice problems that I was having difficulty with. Very caring prof and makes the material easy to follow.
Really nice guy but lectures are messy making it hard to follow. He does extra credit mastering assignments which are nice to help your mark but other assignments have to be done his way or you will lose marks.
Dr Goulding was very accommodating during the online semester and even dropped some sections to take off some stress. His lectures were straightforward, there were lots of easy marks to get, and hes just a really caring guy. One of our tests was tough and long but the others were good. I didnt open the textbook once.
Dr. Goulding does his job; however his methods of solving problems are sometimes confusing. If you did physics in high school you should be okay. I found that I often had to solve problems using methods I learned in high school because I didn't always understand his.
Got a 75 in Dr Goulding's class in Fall 2020. BC this course was online(2020) there were a lot of components. DO THE ASSIGNMENTS,LABS AND PARTICIPATION WORK!!! When offline, this is worth 45%. Study hard for tests/Final and you should be fine. Dr Goulding does what's best for the student, especially if you work hard. 68% in '18 and 75% in '20
He made many mistakes in his notes (for ex. Calculation errors) and Im not sure who made the exams but they were difficult. He is a nice person with great intentions. He wanted us all to succeed.
He was the kindest teacher I had. He acknowledges physics is a difficult subject, so he's happy as long as you put in an honest effort. I found his lectures a bit all over the place - he tends to go off on tangents. Lots of work in the course, and the assignments take a long time to get through, but he is always willing to help.
Dr Goulding is one of the most caring profs I have had and he truly makes physics fun. It is easy to see that he is passionate about his job and the success of his students. It is necessary to stay on top of lectures and projects because there is a lot of material. He is extremely flexible when it comes to due dates/test dates. 110% recommend Dr G!
Richard is a really nice guy and you can tell he cares a lot about his students. This was my first physics course and it was difficult but if you put in the work you will succeed. However, he made so many mistakes in his lectures/tests it was annoying. The tests are hard but he gave us lots of options to boost our mark (takes our 2 highest tests)
Super nice prof. Very very comprehensive and willing to accommodate all the time. Very straightforward. Lectures arent too long, fair assignments and will give extra credit at the end of semester. Test are fairly easy, sometimes there are tricky questions but overall easy A. Very chill, very accessible.
Dr. Goulding is such a caring professor! He is a bit disorganized at times, but he really wants students to succeed, so he goes out of his way to give opportunities to earn marks. My recommendation with Dr. Goulding is to take advantage of the many chances to ask questions and earn marks (e.g., extra credit assignments). Dr. Goulding is a gem!
Super kind prof. Physics is tough to begin with so a great prof definitely helps, exams werent on d2l though they were done by uploaded questions that we would have to work out on paper and submit, kind of weird.
assigns insane amount of homework and assignments. very hard tests. He changes due dates after their due. Releases lectures and quizzes late and does not allow makeup post-lecture quizzes when missed due to the fact that he posted them late. He released 4 assignments and a project during the last week of classes when the exam is one week away.
Super down to earth guy. Always super helpful when you ask. Very fair in assessments and assignments but always provides compensation when needed. If you get the chance, this is the physics prof you want.
Best prof ever! Really wants you to succeed, and offers TONS of assignments to help boost your grade, take every physics course with him if you can!
Genuinely cares about his students, and wants you to do well. Super kind man. Lectures were good as he dove deep into examples to ensure understanding. Replaced midterm marks with that section of the final exam if you performed better, which was huge for me and got me from a C to an A. Would 100% recommend.
Horrible prof. Would not recommend taking this piece of work unless you absolutely have to. Terrible experience - wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
One of the best experiences I've had with a prof at mun. Truly wants to see students succeed. Assigned many things to be completed outside of class, but that is what kept me on top of everything, and it helped me in the long run. Very personable guy, and boosted you up even when you failed, or celebrated success with you, even small ones. Loved him
Nice prof
