Possibly the most intelligent person I know. VERY friendly and willing to help.
Very unopen to discussion on any topic. Easy tests, final grade unfair.
He has his opinion, and you have yours- thats his overall attitude.
Smart and personable, uses great analogies. Really tries to get to know you.
he has his own opinion and you have yours, time goes very slow in class
easy class....gives test ahead of time...TAKE THE CLASS best philo class ull get
Beware: trekkie teacher!! yet somehow made it kinda interesting, easy tests...
Very willing to help you out. Interesting lectures. Teaches well. Take class!
You get exams ahead of time. Don't have to do reading, just go to class. nice
Great educator, easy exams, & inspiring lectures. Lazy about his duties, though.
boring! easy class once you figure him out
study guide=test, BUT study guide is VERY hard...lectures are good time for naps
study guide=tests, difficult tests, do not take
NO NO NO NO
By far the worst teacher ever...tests very unclear and lectures boooooring:(
Difficult stuff, need to be on top of things; Helpful w/ personal issues
knows his stuff, lectures can be boring, dont have to do readings, good teacher
worst class I have ever, I repeat EVER taken, needs to beam himself back to Aust
don't have to go to class if read, test in advance, grades paper easy, nice/bori
Outstanding! Needed help w/class, he was always available. Good prof.
first of all you cant understand him cuz of his horrible accent
The material is not that difficult, but he makes it seem as though it is
worst class EVER, everyone slept thru it,Tests IMPOSSIBLE, barely passed
DROP THIS CLASS! DO THE WORK AND STILL GET A C. WILL KILL YOUR GPA.
Boring, unclear, multiple choice philosphy exams? come on
Ahhhhh...yeah do yourself a favor and don't take this class you will regret it
Nice guy, sexy accent - But 30 Q'S on exams screwed me over. Lowest smstr grade
if you're looking for a easy & clear phil class, then DON'T TAKE THIS ONE!!!
gives tests in advance but they are tricky, excellent teacher and sexy accent
Gives out study guide online, curves like hell, no need to do readings

Study guide are the exams Don't have to go to class if u do study guide/readings
He teaches a class called time travel... need i say more?
It's easy if you don't think too much. Australian accents are the best!
Good A mate!Put another shrimp on the barbie! He'll help you at his office.
No matter what you do you will fail. Although he is nice and helpful
Interesting and Informative, Pay attention and you will do fine.
His voice is the only thing enjoyable when he opens his mouth
u'll either get it or u won't but if u go to class u'll get a C min
interesting class, makes you think but worth it! I had fun with the class
great course, not for stupids.
dont know why but he cranks my chain
this guy is a complete ****, if u want more than a C good luck
you will fail this class no matter how much you study. he's an awesome guy and very helpful, but you'll still fail. cool accent.
PLEASE, Listen up: DO NOT take this class, no matter what you do you will Not PASS!
i have an A b/c i read the book. He can be confusing but if you stick to the book, you'll be fine
easy class.. just read the book.. if you don't get at least a B+ you need help.
easy class, gets harder as it goes so just pay attention and try
summer session was tough, but a great teacher and very smart. u will spend many hours studying hard to pass.
Tough for some people. If you go to class and do the homework, you'll do fine.
It's a hard class but if you try he's willing to help. It's best to give him specific questions during the classes because he just goes over examples rather than directly teaching. With logic, playing w/ problems is the only way to learn it though.
Hot Australian accent!! Very interesting professor, I loved the class!!
This guy is a real piece of work. Tests have a ridiculous format that seems to beg for you to fail. If your just looking for an easy requirement, keep looking.
OK class. Either read the book and dont go to class, or go to class and dont read the book. Great PHIL prof...if you have any problems go to office hours, very helpful. Tests arent easy, some studying needed.
Don't start skipping class unless you're absolutely sure you can teach yourself this stuff. It gets kinda sticky. Cute prof :)
So incredibly good
Hard class, even harder exams but good professor. Got to go to class and read the books to pass.
Really good teacher, but it is such a far out topic that is sometimes hard to understand. Insanely difficult multiple choice. You'll never have been happier to see a short answer question. Nice accent =)
Very hard class - gives out exam questions but you still wont do well. Def. not an easy A. Go to every class - he tests you on what he says and thinks sometimes!
Exams are veryyyy hard. Be prepared to do a lot of rereading and studying. You know this class is hard because he gives you all the exams before you have to take them. Very hard topics to grasp, but interesting.
So incredibly hard. Tests are RIDICULOUS! Topics COULD be interesting if we could debate in class instead of hearing what he thought. Class was a joke. This is definately not an easy group req.
Don't take this unless you enjoy philosophy. Tests SUCK...they are multiple-multiple choice...eeek.
GREAT prof, interesting class, must go to class and read for a good grade, 3 exams-15 multiple choice and 2 short answer questions, exams given ahead of time, go to office hours the day before exam, this is the only way you can get a good grade on exams!
cool Australian accent
Great Professor / Very Knowledgable. EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TOPIC. Take Logic first!!! Very helpful to students who try. If you need help ask.
Great teacher, knows and loves his material, and knows how to make it interesting. Keeps things going at a very fast pace though, and tends to make jokes that go way over the heads of most. The exams are mostly multiple choice, but he knows how to make them hard. Easy to talk to and very helpful.
Really great teacher, knows his stuff, really fun, easy finals and midterms, helps you out a lot, very interesting
An alright teacher. Sometimes a bit boring, but he knows his stuff.
Gives exam study guide the day before, with all questions, do that go to class and participate and you should be fine. The concepts are complicated but he makes them quite easy to understand. And is willing to help. requires work but not a hard class
Dr. Hanley greatly increased my interest in the subject matter
Material is difficult but the 'study guides' before the tests literally are the tests. Good teacher, explains well and is an interesting guy.
Great Professor! He is very interseting and fair. He provides a very helpful study guide before each exam!
This is my second class with Hanley, the concepts are hard, but the way he explains things makes them easy to understand. He gives study guides for every test, but you need to actually do the reading and the work. If you pay attention, go to class and participate, you should do well in the class
the most accomodating professor i've ever had. hes such a nice guy. he gives a study guide before each test, but going to class doesn't really help. the best strategy is to form a study group and divide it up. the tests are pretty hard...i mean its mc, he gives you the entire test a week beforehand, and still the best anyone got was a 35 out of 40.
great prof, loved the class... very interesting, and hanley definitely knows his stuff! go to class and do most of the readings and you will be fine. tests are hard, but doable. def. increased my interest in the subject matter!
Make sure you meet with him outside of lecture to review before exams and you should have no problem getting an A. I took many of his courses when I was an undergrad and only wished I had taken more.
Very hard class-but worth it-you learn a ton!
Very fun class. His class is by far the easiest class i have taken at UD. He is nice willing to work with ya and gives 35% of your grade based on easy online discussions, you really have to try to do bad in his class in order to get anything less then a B. Easy A and yet tou still learn alot. Recommend to everyone.
honors intro. the guy is extremely liberal to the point of frightening, even though i am liberal myself. think hard drugs are not bad though football is immoral? wtf? most painful part of course is putting up with his ideas. is a learning experience though. tests are difficult multiple choice, but easy to get an least a B in the class
The class itself is actually intresting, but the exams are killer. Multiple choice, but all of the answers per question could be write (A and B could be right, or B and D, etc) he is a nice guy, go to class, skim the readings. Gives you study guides in which the tests come directly from ahead of time.
Yet another of the UD philosophy department's hacks who thinks he is smarter than he actually is. What else could you expect though?
This had to be one of my favorite professors so far at UD. He was challenging and the material compelled me to think in new ways. If you want to take a class with him (and you definitely should) be prepared to read most of the material and go to class!! Alot of people didn't go to class and you miss out on alot. Also, attend study sessions!
Lectures interesting. Exam Q's taken from tedious (unless done with others) study guides; multiple choice are intended to be difficult and tricky, but free-response not bad, though prof prefers his own wording (irony: HATES plagiarism). HW Q's & paper are tough & require much research & thorough reading, but some leniency in grading & lateness.
Very liberal guy, fun accent, interesting class, and slightly crazy professor. If nothing else, this class will teach you to debate a point. To death. Twice. But, hey, that's Philosophy. Do the study guide test questions with a group first, and you'll be fine. Pulled out an A because five heads are better than one for studying.
Nice guy, liberal, interesting ideas. The class itself is really interesting but if you're looking for an easy Group A this is probably not it. Tests are kind of hard--definitely require reading the assigned text and you'll never be happier to see a free response question. Unless you're into philosophy, you'll probably find it tedious and not fun
It was a hard course to tackle but well worth it. He's always around to help, and his constant cheeky-ness adds a flare to the course. The books are manditory since you always need to read something from them. He gives you the test Q's plus some a day in advance, but the don't think it's easy. Study sessions are what got me through the semsester.
Great guy, easy to talk to, and if you show a willingness to think for yourself instead of just spitting out rhetoric, he will help you with ANYTHING. If you are open minded you will get an A in this class. If you don't get an A you must not be as open minded as you think!
Just another extremely liberal philosophy teacher, acting like he is more intelligent than he really is. My critique isn't because I dislike liberal professors, I actually enjoy most of my CJ professors. He posts in his online discussions, ONLY when he wants to put in his liberal two cents. Cool accent. Cool to learn about moral problems.
When I first started this class, I hated it. But Hanley is pretty darn hilarious so he makes the material somewhat bearable. Let me tell you though, prepare to WORK HARD in this class. The exams are multiple multiple choice. He gives you the actual exams before test day and most of the class still failed. What's that tell you? Take with precaution.
This class was really hard, but he gives you the exams prior to taking them, so that they are passable, and he's very understanding if you have any problems. He is also a very good teacher.
Exams are impossible. Unless you want to devote your entire life to this class you will probably fail all the exams. Fun lectures at times, but not helpful at all. If you want a decent grade you will have to work and read non-stop. Hanley is a good guy, but DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!!!
this class was HARD! i never read any of the books, but you actually have to if you want to pass! he gives you the exams in advance, but that does NOT mean that it is easy beacause its NOT. ITS IMPOSSIBLE. i worked with other people and still did bad even witht he curve. honestly do NOT take this class unless you REALLY have an interest for philoso
Difficult class. You definitely have to read every single thing he assigns. hes a really nice guy. nice australian accent, but his classes are boring and tests are near impossible. good luck with hanley.
This was my favorite class, but you have to work hard. If you do the readings and go to class, its not that bad, but it requires a lot of time. The stuff is interesting and Hanley is a really nice guy and is always willing to help. You get the test before hand, just make sure you get the right answers. Take the class, but be prepared to work!
Great teacher! You'll grow to love his humor, and yes, you'll have to do work but it's worth it. I pulled off an A- and in the beginning thought i'd fail.
Philosophy of South Park was the best decision I ever made. We wacthed an entire episode of south park every class then discusses the philosophical aspects of it. Mainly read his writings.
Very nice guy. The lectures are so boring. The class starts off really fun and easy, then after the first exam, it gets awful. You have to work so hard and read EVERYTHING. Some of the later on chapters get better. But overall, the class is impossible. He gives the exam question a week before the exam and still over half of the class fails.
I really cannot recommend him highly enough. He explains things clearly, whether they're moral arguments or technical metaphysical concepts. He gives you 30% of your grade from arguing with classmates on the online discussion section. He's accessible during office hours, and he's fun to talk to. Take his class, and get to know him well.
He's an alright professor. Really nice guy. But pretty boring lectures. Do the readings and go over the test questions with friends and him during office hours and you'll be fine.
Hanley is a really nice guy! The class is semi-interesting, but you lose interest in the readings and you lose motivation to go to class after the 1st or 2nd exam. You get the exams ahead of time but they're still VERY hard-my suggestion is to form a study group with people in your class. My friends and I did and we're getting a's and b's.
just drop it. he lectures pretty good but waste of time i am a computer engineering dont need this bs in my life.
Attend the classes. Even though classes aren't mandatory and he really doesn't care.... you miss out on his interpretations and his viewpoints (which is kind of important for some essay questions on tests). Interesting class but definitely hard work. Make friends! Work in groups for the exams!!!
If you intend on getting an easy A, this isn't the class! You have to work really hard but if you do the discussions and go to him for help he will factor that into your grade. I barely passed exams but still made a B for completing discussions. He also gives extra credit opps. He has a better late than never outlook. Good teacher but alot of work!
PHIL125 is philosophy in popular culture: South Park. Don't be mistaken- it's a legitimate class. To be honest, I can't think of a better prof for this class. He's logical, easy to understand, and pretty good-natured. It's a fun class, at least compared with my other classes. And you watch a lot of South Park. Highly recommend this professor.
DON'T DO IT. TRUST ME. REALLY, DON'T
The teacher & the class are both awesome, I don't know what you people are talking about. First of all, he literally gives you an exact copy of the test a week in advance, all you have to do is determine and then memorize the answers. Second, he is really cool and the subject is very interesting. Easy A. TAKE THIS CLASS, it was the best choice
Take advantage of the study sessions and the practice exams because they are the same as the tests, and I realized that a little late in the game. Make sure you read because it's so hard to catch up if you don't. Try to go to class even though you'll lose motivation to show up pretty quickly. Listen to his points of view- they show up on tests.
Hanley's an animated, funny lecturer and a good mentor. I've taken five of his classes and enjoyed each one. He's unusual among philosophy profs in that you ALWAYS know what his position on an issue is. Pay attention to that, because it'll help you on tests. If you're a good student, he'll try to turn you into a philosophy major. It worked on me.
If you want an A this is not the class at all!!!! Exams are multiple multiple choice, lots of reading, lots of work for just an elective. If you do take this class it is interesting and definitely go to the review sessions they give you the answers to the exams!!! i didn't know this until the last exam!
Hanley is a brilliant professor but the class itself is really hard - the tests take a lot of time to prepare and the readings are difficult to understand but overall it is an enlightening course. I am even taking him again in the spring for metaphysics, my favorite.
Really interesting class. Very cool guy. It's definitely mind-bending at times, but he's a lenient grader and will curve around test time. Don't worry about the length of web assignments as long as they get the gist of it. My first one was 3 sentences, got a 3/3. Next one was a few paragraphs, got a 3/3. Definitely recommend.
Had him for my honors colloquia; the Art of Interpretation. Just...what? I was constantly confused about what was going on. Cool guy, but maybe too cool. Very opinionated, which kept it interesting. Not much work, which was nice. Very very easy grader. Just do the work, and you'll get As. Hanley's just such a laid back guy.
Entertaining to say the least! Loved sharing my opinion without boundaries in class. Workload isn't too heavy. Figure out his opinions before writing papers so you can make sure you're agreeing with him. Learned that the hard way. Otherwise fun and interesting experience. If you have him, ask him about the concept of the phrase willy-nilly. Do it!
Hanley is one of my favorite professors at UD and I've only taken him for one semester. You have to do a lot of reading, but it's all really interesting. He explains everything very well, but the material isn't super easy, so if you're not into philosophy then don't take the class. We watched South Park in class.
Awesome teacher, great class. Tests are mostly short answer but not overly difficult. Only assignments are short paragraphs about the lecture topic.
Hanley is a really cool dude. He wore some cool outfits and he is really laid back. He missed the first day of classes and cursed a lot in a funny way. He cares that his students do well. I got a c in his logic course and it probably was one of the hardest courses I've ever taken but Hanley helped a lot. Wouldn't reccomend logic but would Hanley
Probably the hardest class I've yet taken. However Prof. Hanley is extraordinarily helpful. Text can be confusing but his lectures will make you understand. Listen to him when he says "Logic is all practice!" He's accommodating when students need help with hw or need to take exams at different times. Offers extra credit. One of the best professors.
This guy stinks. He speaks in his lectures like he is talking to people who have studied philosophy their whole life. He gives you essay prompts that are confusing and doesn't attempt to explain. And he is not willing to help, I asked for office hours and showed up and he wasn't even there. I had a pretty negative experience, would not recommend
I've taken 2 classes with Professor Hanley so far and I plan to take another. It's philosophy so of course the material can be somewhat hard to comprehend but he usually does a good job explaining the material. Hanley can be a little hard to reach but he does care about his students. I know because he helped me during a crisis an saved my gpa.
Since I was in the freshman honors colloquium class, Hanley made sure his teaching was not overboard. He repeated himself so that students would be able to understand the material. Complex thinking, but worth it if you try. Would recommend his trip to the Supreme Court and definitely go to office hours or email him for help.
Logic is not an easy course. That said, Hanley did a good job presenting the material. However, there is only so much that a professor can do for this type of class. Logic is all about practice and if you practice from day one, you will do well. Approach this course as you would a challenging math course.
The course is not easy, but it is definitely interesting and he gives the actual questions that will be on exams in advance. A few short papers. You watch lots of South Park and the topics are relevant. Really a good teacher. It is way outside of my major, but I'm glad I took it. Don't take it if profanity offends you.
Dr. Hanley is very quirky and funny (i.e. he rides a bicycle everywhere). There are 3 "textbooks" he switches between, and he loves talking about Peter Singer, a PHIL prof. at Princeton. Downside? He's extremely left wing and regards conservative opinions as "wrong." As a Republican student, I clashed with him a lot and my grade suffered for it.
Best class I've ever taken. His lectures really make you think and are always engaging. He gives three tests and a paper. For each test, he gives you a study guide which is the exact test you will get. It is pretty hard to find all the answers because they are vague but making study groups absolutely helps. Would definitely take again.
I didn't have this professor for a hard class but he's just a mean person. When having discussions or debates he shuts down anyone who doesn't share his opinions. He acts like his passive agressive behavior is a joke by laughing after he screams and/or roasts someone's beliefs when he obviously is serious. Hated listening to him speak.
I really enjoyed his class. I had him for logic and will be taking another one of his classes. He's funny. I like math so I found logic very fun. He's pretty liberal and goes on political rants. I enjoy listening to the rants, coming from a very conservative family myself (I like hearing both sides), but I can see why others might not.
Kind of a joke of a class. It's remarkably easy to get a good grade, you just have to conform to his ideals and opinions, and he will give you a good grade. He spends the whole class attempting to make you take up his own view point on a topic that nobody even understands to begin with. Avoid.
He is a amazing guy omg I just love him! It maight not be wrong to say those study Philosophy usually act and think differently but his differences are adorable. Criticizing politians and making jokes of hot topics he is just being amazingly insightful. Logic is not easy but he made it possible. Homework and tests were fair and he curved everytime.
I took this class expecting a regular intro class, but he centered it on the philosophy of science fiction. I thought it would be terrible because im not a scifi person, but we watched the Matrix, discussed body switching, and read Watchmen and I absolutely loved it. Really made you think about stuff in a new way. 10/10 would recommend.
Interesting class and professor helps to deliver it in an understandable way, covers most topics important to philosophy. I felt like I had learned the basics of the language of philosophy through his class; just be weary of exams, start studying early, reading to try and find the answers to the study guide the night before is nearly impossible.
This dude rambles and is far left
If you're looking for an easy A do not take his class. He is a great professor and really cares about the subjects he's teaching, but the study guides are impossible to study for and the exams are insanely difficult. The entire class failed the first couple exams and he was forced to curve. Otherwise, great guy.
Hanley is a great professor, he's v passionate about phil & he definitely knows what he's talking about. def isnt an easy class. Show up as much as possible bc the lectures are the biggest help (IF U PAY ATTENTION). The 1st exam i got a 43% , the 2nd i got a 92% , so it takes a little to get the hang of, & he gives u study guide before every test!!
Prof. Hanley was an amazing Professor. He is a philosopher himself, with very interesting ideas and just a genuine dude. Cool accent, so listening to him speak made things super interesting. Grading was fine, he has no strict format as long as you get close to the word count he asks. About 4 short papers and 3 long, all increasing a bit each time.
Professor Hanley is extremely smart and knows what he is talking about. It was always very interesting to hear his opinions and stories. I never spoke in class but I showed up every class and passed. He is not afraid to talk about controversial topics. So, if you cannot handle someone disagreeing with you then I wouldn't take his class :)))
Prof Hanley is seriously funny and knows his stuff, but the class itself was really hard. Some of the lectures tend to focus on recent topics like politics and stuff, but I would definitely read the textbook if you wanna pass exams. Since exams were open-note there weren't any study guides or sessions held. Also graded on participation.
Definitely the strangest class I've taken, but in a good way. Philosophy in South Park was a fun time for me because I love both South Park and Philosophy, but professor Hanley certainly made it better. Funny guy, well experienced, and the work load wasn't too bad, especially considering I took this as a Winter class.
Professor Hanley is the best. His whole class is just him talking, and it can get boring sometimes, but is so much better if you participate and argue with him. He curves the exams, and is really relaxed with grading. An overall down to earth guy who cares. If you have the chance, you should take him.
One of the worst professors I have had. He is a respected professor but he just shares his views and finds a "philosophical" way to invalidate those who do not agree with him. Grading criteria is unclear, and he makes you read A LOT. He has made some gross and questionable comments in class. Overall, would NEVER take a course with him again.
I never looked forward to attending this class. He made it clear how much he believes Conservative Christians are completely nuts and holding back society with homophobic beliefs. Very offensive and rambled the whole class projecting his beliefs onto his students with no sources to back up his own "facts".
I love this man! He's hilarious, very knowledgeable about what he's teaching, and loves a good conversation about what's going on in the world. About 3 open book exams, a final essay along with smaller essays that really help your grade. He curves exams since some questions have AT LEAST one answer which can be hard but I 100% recommend his class!
Hanley is interesting to listen to, but never stops talking. His lectures are essentially him talking at the class for 50 minutes where he sometimes asks the class to participate. There's 5 small (about 400-500 words) writing assignments and 3 longer essays, but he grades relatively easily as long as you argue your point well.
Very interesting professor and the class was on the "End of the World". I would definitely recommend for a fascinating discussion topic and if you want to learn more about philosophy as well.
Nice guy personally but very egotistical. Spends most of class rambling instead of letting students speak. Claims to be a philosopher despite not saying anything remotely new or interesting. Makes class analyze his unnecessarily long papers so students can hear him talk. Can't end class on time, usually 5-10 minutes after period ends.
Very nice guy but the tests are super tricky. You can take them with other people as a group but even then, the questions are so specific. I did end up doing well but if you read the textbook very closely, you can do good
One of my favorite Professors, do the work and it is an easy A
He was horrible. Talks about whatever he wants and tests have nothing to do with lectures. If you want a good grade in this class get ready to clock 12+ hours before every exam. Super liberal.
Professor is more concerned with deconstructing opposing views rather than creating a space for a philosophical dialogue/learning experience. Lectures feel like literal lectures more than anything else, being told some philosopher's belief and then being told how they're wrong. Assignments are easy, but this is not a good Philosophy course.
Professor Hanley cannot teach. He simply relies on his own feelings and experiences and tests our knowledge based on what he thinks. If anyone even thinks of opposing his argument, he shuts them down. He blocks students from completing the end of year course evaluation because he knows people will have negative remarks.
He will talk for the majority of class, going on tangents not infrequently and typically losing me by the 30 minute mark of a 50 minute class. I did get an A since the exams were based on readings, but the lectures were more confusing than insightful. This was my first philosophy class which could impact my perception but I felt it was universal
Attendance isn't mandatory but if you skip two classes in a row, you'll be pretty behind. All assignments are out of the textbook and don't take long. Hanley is hilarious, but the other reviews are right about him bringing politics into the classroom. This is a very math-like course, but it's super useful.
great professor, funny + cares about his students. the class is difficult on its own, but he tries his best to make it easier. he genuinely does want you to succeed. assignments are graded based on effort + competition and he gives all test questions beforehand. would only recommend if you're genuinely interested and are willing to put in the work.
Professor Hanley was by far one of the few professors who keeps you engaged in the topics he's teaching. Workload is not a lot at all just discussion posts you need to participate in and give people feedback but it's not a lot of writing at all. I had to take his class for a breadth course and was an easy course to take
The actual subject matter of logic can be very difficult to understand but Hanley did a great job of simplifying it. He is funny and it's clear that he genuinely cares about the topic. I would definitely suggest taking logic with him especially if you plan on going into law or taking the LSAT.
Prof Hanley keeps the class engaging with his wit and expertise. The workload is manageable - just some discussion posts. Textbook is useful, and using Unstuck AI alongside it makes exam prep a breeze. Solid class overall.
Hanley is intense, but once you get used to his sense of humour and style the class is super chill. Participate in discussion in class and put in effort and it's easy. The readings aren't that bad, scan the chapter before lecture and take deeper notes for the tests. He's very casual but he cares about and respects the students. 11/10
only writing this to tell you to only take this class if you're interested in math or law school. it's basically a finite math class but it's useful for LSAT prep too. i took it for my computational requirement, and dropped it for cisc instead within the first week and am very happy i did so bc i was not interested in finite math and found it hard
not an easy A unless u really understand logic. if u go to class and spend time practicing the content it's do-able. all this course takes is effort tbh. he really does care about how his students are doing and homework isn't bad. look up predicate/monadic logic translations/proofs, this is the majority of the course. exams are easier than HW
Hanley is very chill and I do enjoy his lectures sometimes. However, if you do not agree with his opinions he doesn's accept your answer, this causes many to feel as there is no point in participating. I wish the class was more connected since he just lectures most of the time. The tests are very difficult. Overall, the class is not too bad.
He's very passionate about philosophy and it's clear in lecture, but the exams are strangely tough for me, as someone who is not good at philosophy keep in mind, but the questions are worded difficultly to understand for a beginner course. He also makes a lot of things very political, and while I agree with some things, I don't think it'snecessary.
if you don't have an interest in Philosophy and want to take this class as a breadth, don't. only grades he has is are in class writing assignments, attendance, discussions, and the exams. if you do bad on one, it drops your grade A LOT
Unless you have a serious interest in philosophy, don't take this course. The tests are incredibly difficult and can bring your grade down tremendously. Also, he makes most topics in the course very political, which I didn't care much about personally, but some people didn't like it. I did not like this course and found it challenging and boring
DO NOT TAKE HIM. this class is insane. he doesnt know how to teach, you dont understand what hes talking about half the time, and the exams are horrid. idk why this class has exams because he is the worst and strictest grader. please please please, im trying to save your gpa, do not take his class. he also asks about his opinion on the exams. what!
