Very fast paced class, too fast. We did nothing the last week of semester except work in groups on the final review that I can do on my own time. Harris is a good instructor however the only thing worth credit in the class are exams and quizzes and maybe he will give you an entire much needed FOUR POINTS for completing the review.

Rick is such a great professor. Honestly, he is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is very good at motivating his students and he really cares about them. He's a fun guy to talk with, too. I recommend visiting him during his office hours and using the MRC as aids while taking this class. However, this is a difficult class, so work hard.

He's not a professor that I would take again. He tries to teach, but he's not very good at it. He has a very odd sense of humor, and it makes the classroom very akward. Everything that I have learned is through the book, which is much easier to understand than he is. I wouldn't take this professor as your first choice

Terrible. Trig isn't that hard if you can figure out what is going on, but this professor makes that very difficult with bad lectures. He isn't very nice, and he has miserably fails at making jokes, that come off offensive and brash. He gives almost no homework, and this class is test heavy. USE THE BOOK because it teaches you better than he does!

Rick is more of a nice guy than a great teacher. I can understand his morals, but he can grade very harshly. My biggest issue with him is that he teaches his class as if everyone were math majors, not knowing that math is not everyone's strong suit. Overall funny and nice guy, but not as accessible as some of the other math professors.

Solid Professor. Overall, he did an excellent job in teaching the class. Attendance isn't technically mandatory, but if you want a good grade it is. Fair grader, if you slack off your grade will suffer, but it doesn't require an excessive amount of work to get a good grade. Interesting explanation of the Associate Property.

Ignoring my grade, taking his class taught me what was expected at college as it was my first semester. To do well, you need to read the textbooks and do the homework. Though homework is not graded, I still recommend you do it or else you will be lost. He wants the best for his students so he pushes you hard, but it's worth it in the end.

You really need to do the homework to good for the quizzes. There is no review for the quizzes. Also things you learn in the notes sometimes won't be on the quiz or exam. He is a very chill teacher. Do not slack off or you will not pass or have to take a W.

A nice person (he tells excellent stories about his life and experiences as a JCCC student), but his grading style is comprised of quiz and exam grades, which was a shock since I came here from Intermediate Algebra. There is lots of homework for every single section. Would not take this class again.

He was a nice professor, but not a good teacher and he means business. He goes through units way too fast and only shows 2-3 problems for each unit. He skips steps, making it very difficult to understand what you're learning. He gives you lots of homework and only grades quizzes and tests and nothing else.

All the graded assignments were compiled of only tests and quizzes. The class itself was very fast-paced, this was very bothersome because he would also spend time telling stories about his past. Fun stories, yes but then he would skip over example problems and give you a "you should know this." Good guy but with inefficient teaching methods.

Harris is a great professor. you can tell he really loves what he does and he does truly care about his students, but if you're in one of his classes for an easy A you should find a different professor. he grades you to prep you for your next math course. Overall my favorite professor I've had while at JCCC and is very helpful in office hours.

Everyone says hard professors help you learn more in the longrun but that wasn't the case with him, he tells you his stories about his unrealistic study habits and expects the class to follow suit. Not my type of professor. He flies through notes that are printed off with very few examples. To be 100% honest, I wouldn't recommend taking his class.

SUM 2022: Rick left a lasting impression. I improved my math skills, but his expectations were harsh. Out of 28 students, only 6 made it to the end, with some failing, including me. Despite studying 4-7 hours daily, it wasn't enough. Harris pushed hard, but unreasonably hard. Though beneficial, Rick was overwhelming and unrealistic in the classroom

Rick is the best maths professor I've ever had the pleasure of studying under. In his class, you will be forced to become a good student. He won't coddle you, so don't expect an easy grade. He's fun to joke around with and is very personable. Grades are often submitted the day after tests/quizzes, as he wants to lead by example for the class.

I took Richard Harris for 4 semesters in my college career so far. The first 2 times were for college algebra. I took him for college algebra through calculus, and before his class I never thought I would make it to a math class past college algebra. The best professor I've ever had, and when I dropped his calculus class, I got a very sweet email.

Prof. Harris was great just know that your gonna have to put in the work to do well. Slacking isn't an option you will fall behind. In Calc 1 grades are based on tests and quizzes hw is collected at random. For my class it was collected once and only gives you a point back on quizzes. Great teacher, tough but fair.
