He is great.. I learned a lot
No Comments
He is a little too fun... you are left to learn the material on your own when the final exam rolls around! Be prepared for lots of reading and two weeks of HELL during the Law Game!
I am a female and I never even thought about any of those things being said about flirting... Anyway, I got an okay grade and I thought he was a great teacher. He is one of the few who truly cares about all students and loves to teach.
One of the best professors at NYU. He really makes class fun and you look forward to going to his class every day. I think the best thing about his class is the fact that everyone in his classes end up knowing each other, becoming friends, etc.

Professor Hendler is incredible... VERY easy to connect to... he's totallt genuine despite his apparent over-mushiness! Sweet guy!
He's an awesome guy!
This professor is by far one of the most challenging. He does not flirt, but knows how to be humorous. He does not brag about his achievements, but rather, brags about how happy he is and hopes that others will find that same hapiness out of life. He's more about just class, he knows that we are not only students, but human beings as well.
Rich is a great guy. His class is not for the faint hearted but you get to learn alot in his class and it's extremely enjoyable and challenging. By far one of the best professors in Stern!
He's a wealth of information if you really care about what your learning and you take the time to ask him. Student line up to ask him questions after class and he's always attentive to them. He catered the class to what we wanted to know and it was a completely stress free environment!
I was skeptical at first, but I really like Prof. Hendler and think his teaching style makes this awful material much easier to learn. I really enjoy his class (and I HATE law).
Hendler's kind of amazing. He's one of those teachers who "focus on the learning outside of the classroom." So he gives you the tools- you sort of interpret the material and figure stuff out. Lots of reading... but it's actually good stuff. he genuinely loves his students, and takes interest in our personal lives. All around great guy. Will miss.
Rich is quite unlike any other professor you will ever have at NYU. He teaches his students to seek passion in life, and is devoted to making lasting relationships. He sponsors networking, relationship builders for his student at local restaurants out of his own pocket. Class is fun, I look forward to it, it's of an hour and 15 min of entertainment
Hendler does not have a conventional teaching style. If you are looking for a strictly outlined class with all assignments and lectures standardized, this is not the class for you. A lot of reading and research is done on your own time because there is no book and an unclear syllabus. However,I learned a lot and it was in an enjoyable enviornment
He was the best professor I've had at Stern and one of the few professors in years that kept me interested for the entire class every week.
The class structure provided students with room for creativity, relaxation, and fun. Rich emphasizes the importance of networking and friendship in the business world, which is really appreciated. I loved this class!
The best professor I have ever had for my whole college career. Unlike other professors he treats students with understanding and respect and knows how to make a class interesting. Amazing person and professor, highly recommended.
Difficult but fair.
Rich is hands down the best professor I have ever had. Having said that, however, if you are looking for a structured class with a fool-proof calendar so that you can read ahead of class, do not sign up for Entertainment Law. In my honest opinion, I do not believe that is the best way to learn anyways; Rich's class is entertaining and insightful.
LOVED his class! It's not supper structured BUT he emphasizes actually learning rather then just spitting out information for a test. I really enjoyed the class and I'm looking forward to taking business law in the fall!
Great professor, very knowledgeably and helpful, and a amazingly fun class. The exams are not easy, but I would highly recommend, and you really do learn a lot.
Hendler is the man. He's a great teacher - makes the material crystal clear. Also a great motivator. Loves what he does and it shows.
Coolest guy i no.. got to know him personally and really gets close with his students if he sees a spark of interest in them.. Chill guy once on his good side and the most down to earth professor out there
His class isn't easy, but neither is law. You WILL learn a lot by the end, and despite the work, you'll have fun too. He's about as understanding, magnetic, and genuine as they come. Yes, his style is unstructured, but it's not that hard to keep up thanks to how fun he makes the material. People walk out of this class calling it the best in Stern.
One of the best and only professors I've encountered that is genuinely concerned about his students' well-being in and out of class. Rich's teaching style is engaging, and his personality is addictive- his class will become one that you will look forward to and one you wont want to miss. I urge even those without interest in law to take his class.
Seriously the best professor I have ever had. Makes the whole class a family. No joke. Difficult course but you won't regret taking him :)
Richard Hendler is the best teacher professor at NYU.
Amazing! Made me want to go to Law school! He's a kind, caring, understanding professor, and wants to make sure you have fun and learn something. The work is tough but he knows that college is tough too, so as long as you're honest about your stress level, he'll always be willing to cut you a break. He really respects honesty and hard work.
Great professor and very interesting class, but there is A LOT of work - it's all worth it though. Not difficult to get a good grade.
Rich is a fantastic professor. He goes out of his way to make the class interesting, and has a ton of both legal and teaching experience to draw on. His final is tough, and he asks for your full attention on a lot of assignments, but if you want to be anywhere in the entertainment industry, his class is worth taking for sure.
Pf. Hendler is the best professor I've taken at NYU. I learned a ton and had a blast in the process. He really tries to make the class the best you've ever had. I'm taking him for LBS now and it's even better than ELaw because we have class twice a week. I highly recommended his classes.
As a person, I think he's great and very inspirational at that. But as a professor, I found his teaching methods to be unclear. It's never straightforward; he tries anecdotes that don't work. I'm all for a good time but he uses the exams as a way for you to learn (just google-ing everything like mad) which makes no sense to me.
Rich is by far the best and most caring professor I've ever had at NYU. His ELAW class is engaging, challenging and fun. Rich is dedicated and available at almost all hours, cares about students and loves teaching. His class follows the syllabus (read it and the cases) but allows flexibility based on students' questions and comments. You'll learn!
Don't graduate without taken Rich as a professor. This class is amazing, i never wanted to miss class, and you will learn so much. One of my favorite classes and professors. He encourages you to speak in class and sometimes he cold calls on students. So be prepared by reading the cases and announcements.
Hendler is incredibly smart, sharp, and passionate. Class is based on mini trials and is open discussion. His class will make you smarter, and a better thinker and speaker. Also you'll make lots of new friends. If you put in the effort, you'll do well. Hendler is generous with his time and will help you in any way possible. Great guy and class!
One of the best professors at NYU, someone who truly cares about teaching and ALL his students
Wonderful class, wonderful guy. This man genuinely cares about his students.
Rich is the nicest, most caring, and most supportive teacher I've ever had. Not just in my college career, but in my entire life!! He has completely given me a new sense of hope in teachers which I never would've had before I took his class. This is a man I plan on staying in touch with LONG after this class is over.
Didn't provide any feedback or engage independent thought from his students. Rich is a nice guy, but that's about it.
Best teacher at NYU, so much passion and care. Classes are always engaging and thought provoking and Rich brings out the best in you. He cares about the person behind the student and works with you to become brighter and to find your passion. Rich will always make time for you for anything you need including feedback. You must take this course.
Hendler and all of his classes are amazing. He is one of the best professors/teachers I've ever. He’s well prepared; his class discussions are current & interesting; and he tries to get the entire class involved. Regarding feedback, he gives plenty during one on one time. Before you graduate, take any class with Rich. You will be thrilled you did.
Incredibly warm and caring professor that I will remember for a long time. His class is very clear and he repeats the main ideas many times. A fair amount of work but you learn a lot and he lets you work in groups. My only regret is that I took this course senior year and didn't have a chance to take any of his other classes!
Awesome and an extremely caring professor; he knows his stuff and he is very open to questions and makes class incredibly interesting with videos, discussions, videos, simulated trials, and cases. Honestly, he is terrific professor and person and the best professor I have ever had anywhere.
Absolutely the best professor at NYU!! He's extremely caring, understanding, and smart and his lectures are entertaining and interesting. They are more like a conversation. I always look forward to class and I have never met a teacher who cares so much for his students, in and out of class. Lastly, I learned so much for and made new friends.
By far the best professor I have ever had! Excellent class, excellent lecturer, and excellent person. Really knows a lot about the subject and presents the material well. More amazing he cares so much for students and supports you in and out of class. Only downside for some is there's a lot of readings and work. Well worth it in my opinion.
Hendler's an amazing professor who cares about his students. Course material is very relevant to many aspects of life. He's very intense, though; wouldn't recommend his class if you're not comfortable being put on the spot for no reason. Lots of case readings and group work. Enjoyed the class but wish I'd taken it when I had a less hectic schedule.
Learned more in Rich's class than I have in any other. His expectations are high; class material is very relevant, current and interesting. You must put the time in. Although it's a two credit class, you will learn more than most four credit classes but don't expect a light load. His teaching style is amazing and he is more than an amazing person.
Amazing class! One of the best professors. Rich loves to teach and it shows. He brings unbelievable energy and passion to law with his engaging discussions. Rich constantly inspires through his lectures and personal anecdotes. The amount of deliverables are not for the faint of heart. Put in the effort, you will learn a lot about law and yourself.
As a Tisch student who grew up in a family of attorneys, this class is ridiculous. This Stern class in particular did not offer the information I was looking for - considering it's called Entertainment Law, I expected to learn about drafting contracts and optioning, not case law and judicial opinions. Tisch BEMT classes are more practical by far.
Fantastic teacher! Engaging and fun. Hhe brought entertainment law to life, and helped us to understand how law works in the entertainment sectr. Not only is he a great professor, but he also is one of the most caring persons I have ever met. You must take this course. It's a wrap.
Rich is the best professor at NYU. I'm going to be honest, this class is absolutely a challenge, but I have never enjoyed a class so much at NYU. You don't mind the work because he is so supportive and is there to help you whenever you need. He loves getting to know his students, and his stories are amazing.
A legend and iconic. He is by far the best professor I have ever had in life. He knows all of the material and his lectures are amazing and fun. He develops a community, is very approachable, and creates a very safe place to learn (no fear about making mistakes; in fact he refers to those as pre-successes. Many deliverables/readings, worth it tho.
Rich is really the best professor I have ever met. He is so kind and devoted to his students. Love him! There were many readings but the course was inspirational and interesting. Because of this course, I know that law can also be an interesting thing. The lecture was full of happiness. I enjoyed a lot.
Alright, so I know NYU says this class is 2 credits but don't believe them, its more like 6. You will have a ton of hw if you take this class, specifically group projects. DONT take if you have a lot on you plate. The actual class also isnt great for actually learning about the law. Rich is really cool though, very caring, and is funny. 3/5.
Hands down and by far the best class and professor at NYU. Rich is smart, engaging, funny, and understanding, and he managed to the get the most out of me. There is a lot of work, but all of it is very interesting. I cannot express how much I disagree with the other student in my class. I learned so much from him about entertainment law and life!
Rich is a must-take for anyone with an interest in law or entertainment. Rich is a spectacular professor and an even better human being, His classes are very interesting and relevant. His workload is heavy, so manage your time. In the end, it as so worthwhile as I learned more than I could ever imagine and I found my passion by taking this class.
One of the best at NYU! Rich is awesome, intelligent, laid back, funny, and helped me understand many facets of entertainment law. No doubt he knows his stuff very well and will make sure his students do too, inside and outside of class. Terrific feedback on assignments. There is a lot of reading and writing but it helps you understand the material
Hands down most awesome professor that NYU has to offer. Very inspirational person and very knowledgeable about the subject. Great storyteller, he helps always, and makes you excited for class; Genuinely cares for you, your well-being, and your future. Heavy workload; very real work . Class becomes your 2nd family and is life changing.
Definitely take any of Rich's classes if you get the chance. One of the best classes I've taken at NYUStern. He is not only a great prof but he is also a ridiculously amazing person. Highly, highly recommend Rich. He changed my life. If you keep up with the projects, most are group ones, and readings (many but manageable), you'll be more than fine.
Just took class; fantastic prof, really cares and his stories have a purpose - they help you learn. Great at keeping my interest and so helpful outside of class. Connects concepts to real and new legal cases. Rich cares about students and his lectures. He's knowledgeable, dedicated and so positive. Take Rich's class; best prof I've had yet.
Rich is the best prof Ive ever had at NYU. Hes literally the reason why I decided to stay at NYU and not transfer out. Hes so inspirational and has changed the way I look at my acedemic career. However, there is a lot of work involved in the class so dont take the class if you already have a lot. But hes a fair grader. I recommend this class.
Richard Hendler is funny, caring, nice, and smart. Prof Hendler is intense, purposely assings more homework than you can handle, and a little crazy. Very imporatant to understand the difference between the person and the Professor. In many other classes they are the same. In his classes, they are not.
Rich is an unbelievable professor and person. He is inspiring and loving and cares like no other. The load can be daunting for some but we are at NYU to learn and work hard. And I am proud to say I definitely did both. Rich is the BEST. Take his class and you'll leave a better person and student. Ask anyone, except the writer below.
Rich is the best and most caring professor I have ever had. Wish the class was twice a week. He is a sensational professor and person. He uses up to date cases and scenarios that add to the readings. His ability to make the class and law fun and break down legal principles into an understandable framework made this the best class I took at NYU.
Loved his law classes, and love the professor and the man. He is INCREDIBLE! ELAW and E&L were great classes that covered an in depth look into laws affecting the entertainment and entrepreneurial space. The delivarable and games are so worth it. I am a smarter and more adaptable person because of Rich. I would take any of his classes again!
E-Law changed my life forever. Rich's class made me fall in love with law and figured out my career. His lectures and style are exceptional. He's a great storyteller and he makes class fun to learn. He's always approachable and willing to help. If he is not the best professor at NYU, then I don't know who is. Take his class!
Rich lights up the classroom, NYU, and the world.
Great
Rich is hands down the best professor at Stern. He enjoys what he does and is very passionate, understanding and supportive. Rich is always available and gives you excellent feedback on assignments. I have learned more from his class and him than I thought possible. Seriously, take elaw and seek his help in anything and everything.
One of the most sincere and warm-hearted persons I have ever met. Rich is great in front of the class. He's totally engaging, wonderful and fun, and he is all of this and more in person. His lectures are clear and every class makes you love the material as much as he does. (I don't want to be a lawyer.) Hendler is a rock star!
Most fulfilling professor I have ever had. His approach and class are such refreshing approaches to the standard approach to teaching. Rich is unbelievably caring, gives solid feedback, is a very fair grader, and he is the best even with a heavy work load. I give him an A+.
I joined a class with Rich after reading all the rave reviews. All I can say is, no one was exaggerating. It has been a true blessing to meet him, as he is a brilliant BRILLIANT professor who cares about and inspires every single student he works with. He enlivened law in a way I would never have thought possible. No superlative could be sufficient
Rich is the best professor at NYU. However, his final exam is very difficult. Everything besides homework is allowed in groups and his class isn't a simple lecture. It's an experience. I didn't get an A but I am so glad I got to know this professor. I learned how to make contracts and to really talk to other people. He's so loving. Take him!
Rich is great! He is very caring and inspirational. You will learn a lot of good information about Entertainment Law and also about life as well. Quite a bit of reading and work for a two credit class, but well worth it!
I love this class. Everything is clear, the atmosphere is qreat. The workload is heavy but manageable. I learned a lot about entertainment law and about me. We're encouraged to ask questions, foster new friendships outside of class, and develop as a student/person. Prof's feedback was excellent. I highly recommend Rich's class to everyone!
I really wanted to love this class, but it was a bit of a let down. The professor doesn't so much lecture as share personal anecdotes and you won't learn more than what the average person already knows about law. I'm pre-law and I can say there are much better classes for BEMT at Tisch or CAS for media.
Rich is awesome and incredibly caring!! Over the weekend before the break, he spent hours with me talking about class material and my life. Amazing, right! He is equally awesome in front of the class. Totally engaging, wonderful, fun, and clear lectures. I can't wait to take his other classes.
Rich is by far one of the best professors in the world. He is inspirational, genuinely cares about everyone, and is very willing to meet outside of class to discuss anything (reserve his coffee chats early). He is dedicated to teaching and you will learn so much. Awesome class.
Rich is a great human and a caring and excellent teacher of so many things. Rich is the best prof and his class is one of the best at NYU. He is super-engaging and makes learning law very enjoyable. You will learn lots more than just the law. The way he talks about life makes everyone in the room feel loved. Truly an experience!
Hendler is an amazing person and one of my favorite professors. He definitely cares about students' academic, professional and wellbeing. I learned a lot of new material and new skills, grew as a student and enjoyed every class. I wish the class was 4 credits. Rich provides quality feedback and is very approachable and inspirational. Def take it.
Law through the Lens of Film is a broad overview of law so you'll learn alot. Since it's not law school, it won't be too specific. Rich is lenient with the grading if you do the work, if you don't, bad things happen. The class is mostly discussion/trials. I honestly enjoyed it. The hw is movies and law memos, not bad, and enjoyable if you care. :)
A great teacher and person. A very kind prof who really takes you through how to think about law in the business world. Rich is a special person and his class was a special experience. There is no one else like him or nothing else like his class.
Rich is the most caring professor at NYU. He really makes a space where he has everyone treat each other like family as interpersonal relationships are important in life. E-Law readings may be difficult in the beginning, but they get so much easier each time. I promise. P.S. Meet with him outside of class! He's also a great friend to have.
Rich is a very nice man, yes. However, I felt that my time was often wasted in his E-law class. We only met once a week for an hour and fifteen minutes, yet consistently the only time we spent discussing homework or entertainment law terms/language were the last 15 minutes of class. You're going to have to teach yourself in this course.
Learned a lot of material. Very entertaining and educational class. Rich was terrific in front of the class or by zoom. Totally engaging, wonderful, fun and clear lectures. He and his teaching are awesome. Classes were the highlight of my tough semester. He is simply a great person. Wish there were manymore profs like him. One of the best at NYU!
Rich is the best professor I have had the pleasure of taking! He truly wants his students to perform well and succeed. His lectures are entertaining, engaging, and fruitful for many aspects of life. His teaching style and warm heart will leave you wanting to take every class he offers. The Law/StartUp Game will teach you a lot and is loads of fun!!
Rich's Entertainment Law course is one of the best classes at NYU. His lectures are well-thought-out, educational, and amusing! He makes sure you will laugh, learn, and form lifelong friendships with your classmates. You will also become very comfortable with reading cases quickly. No matter your major / career goal, this is a must-take class!!!
Rich is an incredibly caring and kind person, but his teaching style isn't for everyone. I oftentimes felt lost in his class, and while I enjoyed hearing his stories, I oftentimes didn't quite see how they connected to the law concepts we were supposedly learning. Grading criteria really isn't clear and the workload is more like a 4 credit class.
Rich is the greatest professor on planet earth. He makes NYU and the world a better place. Great teacher, incredibly passionate and attentive, extremely caring. Love his lectures. Work is moderate to heavy, two/ three group projects, readings are manageable, and final exam (can be done in groups). Do the work and you will learn. A must class!
During this semester of Zoom, Rich made himself accessible at nearly any hour of the day to help my team and me. He invests so much of his time in us. Amazing how much he cares! Super entertaining lectures. Assignments can be a lot for some so start them early. Rich is great guy, fantastic teacher, and a great resource for anyone. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
rich is so nice and kind and honestly my fav prof in NYU. He is caring to all students in and outside the class, gives a lot of advice on life and law-related career path (and 5$ Starbucks gift card lol) His lecture is fun and inspirational. tough grader but you learn
Absolutely recommend!!! He actually cares about each individual student and is willing to help regardless of your level of understanding in his class. He's willing to make career connections for you as well. Attendance is required and the workload is fair. Definitely take any of his classes. Such a great professor. Thanks Rich!
THE BEST PROFESSOR AT NYU HANDS DOWN. Rich is honestly such a genuine human being who actually cares about the people he interacts with. I highly recommend his class and getting to know him as a person. He is there for his students and doesn't try to make the class a stressful environment. Love him to pieces!!!
He's a nice guy and is always there for his students. He is very respectable. His grading toward the end of the course was a little unclear. If you make plans with him, show up and double check and confirm, otherwise he will get mad.
I absolutely love Hendler and his hilarious stories. He is a well respected professor at Stern and is always available to chat with his students even when class is not in session. He is very fair and you can tell that he loves to teach, which motivated me to try hard in his class.
Rich is an excellent professor and great person to be around as well. His lectures are very gripping, seamlessly humoring students with life stories while also tying them into the material masterfully. Excellent professor that makes sure you feel good understanding the material and as a person as well. Very understanding and friendly. Best prof!
Rich has been a standout professor in my college experience. I've never met a professor who is so proactive in reaching out to and caring for his students. He has an ability to make you interested in anything he's saying. I took the class solely because it was a requirement, but left the class with a genuine interest in the topic.
This professor is the single best professor you will ever have at NYU. Professionally, Rich possesses a uniquely powerful ability to engage you in Law, a conventionally boring subject, through stories. I seldom pay attention in school, here, I never missed a beat. Personally, he is an inspiring mentor, a wise guide, and a true friend.
The toughest professor I've had at NYU. However, he deserves to be respected. A great man who knows his stuff really well.
Prof Hendler is a great teacher who explains concepts in a fun way and makes every class interesting. He tells stories and uses examples of cases that are really engaging. However, the feedback on grades is a little unclear and you don't really know how you do until the very end of the class. Though he is accessible in and out of class for help.
Rich is a great professor who really wants to see his students succeed. He's a tough grader, so meeting with hime outside of class is invaluable to understanding what he is expecting to see for assignments. This class is really fun as long as you choose your group members wisely. Keep in mind it's more like 4 credits than 2 credits.
Entrep. Law in Practice was definitely intense. (Make sure you have someone who's super part time/multiple members part time or the workload will crush you near the end). The law game ranges from drafting contracts to writing motions/pleadings. Rich as usual is intelligent, caring, and inspirational. He makes you work for that A. Love him.
Rich is a phenomenal professor - one of the best I've had at NYU. He cares so much about his students and clearly values each individual and their effort. Feedback on assignments and grading criteria was always clear, and Rich took extra time to discuss any questions or comments that we had. Workload is not light, but the class is so worth it.
Rich is such a caring and fantastic professor! He is knowledgeable about the law and is able to express the information clearly. There is a lot of work, but Rich was super easy to contact if I had any questions, and I felt that all of the assignments were actually relevant and worthwhile. Truly someone who wants to get to know his students better.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Whether you're planning on law school or not, this is a really interesting class and Rich was an amazing professor. He always provides helpful feedback on assignments and genuinely wants students to do well. If you have a chance to take ELaw, you should!
Rich is awesome, but the class definitely requires effort. Not a light workload and could be challenging but you get the most out of it if you participate anyway so overall it's a great class. Rich is always easy to reach and helpful, he cares a lot about his students.
I love Rich. Ask anyone who's taken his classes and they'll tell you the same, for good reason. He's so caring and kind with his students to the point where it inspired me. He just has such warm energy. Entertainment Law is two credits but the workload is pretty heavy, but nothing unmanageable. He gives lots of pointers. One of the best profs here.
ELaw is definitely tough but so worth it. I never plan to be a lawyer, and never thought I would take a law class, but I'm so glad I did. He is the funniest guy ever, with so many good stories to tell!
This class is a fan favorite for a reason. I wish it was a little more structured but I still felt I learned a lot. Rich wants to build connections with all his students which is really special. Grades wise it's a lot of group projects and briefs. So stimulating assignments but not too many. The course objectives were clearly stated too.
The kindest, most joyful, honest and caring professor I've ever had so far. Full of knowledge and wisdom. Rich made law very interesting and is encouraging towards students and understanding. Grading criteria and expectations are clear. He is everything I've ever wanted in a professor. Rich has bern the most impactful prof in my college career.
Course was awesome and informative, and I received the best life advice. Very fun and engaging professor who knows his stuff and uses interesting ways, in class activities and stories to teach the material. Enthusiastic about the topics and life and very willing to help students. Rich is a fantastic person and professor. Highly recommend!
Rich is an incredible professor, and I've learned a lot under his guidance. Elaw has been an engaging class and a great experience overall, as Rich makes the class a comfortable space to learn. While the class is demanding for 2 credits, if you have the time and want a fun but challenging course about law, I definitely recommend taking this one.
He's entertaining and "cool" at first since he has no slides and just tells stories each class. Then it's annoying knowing other LBS classes learn useful content that'll help them in the business world and we just get performative stories about how he changes students' lives. I wish I took a diff prof and actually learned something concrete in LBS.
Rich is awesome - the class has a solid work load, but his comments on the briefs and papers are super clear and help you know how to improve for the next assignment. Classes are engaging, and he's genuine and really cares about his students and how they perform. He's very reachable and great with arranging meetings with students for questions!
Professor Hendler (Rich) is AMAZING! He is a fantastic prof and storyteller. A lot of work but definitely worth it. I learned about law and myself working with my group. The LawGame was definitely the best experience at NYU. Rich is so enthusiastic about what he teaches and always willing to help. Rich, the course, and my new friends are awesome.
I like Rich as a person, but as a professor, he's hard to follow. He encourages class connections, and I appreciate that, especially in Stern courses. However, he has no slides, class notes, etc. and tells stories rather than actually lecture. There is a significant amount of coursework, and thankfully you can do it in groups.
He is such a good person but like for a 2 credit class he gives so much work. He doesn't teach and grades harshly. Don't take this class unless you wanna get HELLA work for little payoff.
Among the very best professors at NYU. Classes are engaging and Rich has plenty of insight into the topics. His stories are a very pleasant way to learn the material. I found all the deliverables enjoyable opportunities to learn and he is available at all hours to answer questions or for advice. The class is challenging but definitely worthwhile.
Among the best educators I've ever encountered. Rich speaks well about every topic that is discussed and is very engaging. This class was by far the best class experience at NYU. Overall, he is very easy to talk to and it is so obvious he cares about everything and everyone. Grading is honest! Work hard! Don't BS! Learned a lot! Loved it!
The best professor I've had at NYU, and that's not "puffery." He truly cares about all his students, and his classes are always engaging, and filled with relatable, real-life stories. This class, my second with Rich, was another incredible course. I learned a vast amount of valuable information. Hands down, he's the perfect professor for anyone!
THE GOAT! Rich is one of the most amazing instructors I've ever had. From telling amazing stories in class to offering unique perspectives on life itself, Rich stops at nothing to foster an amazing community in his class. I plan to take just about every other course he offers. He is amazing!
The best professor I have ever had throughout all my education.
Rich is an amazing professor. His classes are very engaging and are something to look forward to every week. He is always happy to help in any way that he can outside of class, and he goes above and beyond. I would definitely take any other courses that he teaches!
Rich's ELAW class is engaging and challenging, but worth the effort. While the workload can be heavy, his interactive teaching style and relatable stories make it an enjoyable learning experience. Unstuck study was a game-changer for my study prep - highly recommend!
Rich was, in my opinion, overall lackluster. Frequently got sidetracked and most of class time was spent on him rambling. I would recommend taking another LBS prof if you want to actually learn something.
Rich genuinely tries to build relationships with every one of his students, and fosters a caring community within the classroom. As a practicing attorney, Rich prefers to draw upon his own experiences to teach fundamental concepts. Classes can be lecture-y but overall a great experience if you buy into Rich's style of teaching. Highly recommend it.
Rich is not only an amazing professor, but a caring mentor and an adult the students need. He is always willing to make time for the students for anything, and is very responsive to any kind of questions the students may have regarding the course. I consider myself lucky to have met Rich throughout my time at Stern.
Yes he is nice, but don't take this class. His grading is hard and inconsistent. The assignments aren't helpful in learning the material yet time consuming. In class we would spend the whole time talking about anything but the course material. I didn't learn. I am an extremely dedicated student yet feel it was merely impossible to get an A.
He's an exceptional professor, engaging, entertaining, and incredibly knowledgeable. This course and the professor have been a highlight of my four years at NYU. Every class was enjoyable, and the effort put into the work was absolutely worth it. My advice to future students: ask questions about assignments — it's a great way to earn higher scores.
GOAT! Clear, informative, and fun lectures; always available for help; one of the best humans you will ever meet; holds the benchmark at a respectful high level. It was an honor to be in his class.
He is the best professor for LBS. It was an amazing class and I'm smarter and better because of Rich. So grateful I had the opportunity to be in his class. I've never had a professor who does more for their students. It's truly surprising how much effort he puts in, with unique sessions and opportunities both in and outside the classroom.
Rich... I have so many good things to say about this professor. Ultimately, he will be one of the best professors you take at NYU - if you have the opportunity to take his course. I highly recommend that you take this opportunity, as taking his class was transformational for me and many others. He is a truly caring and exceptional person.
He's a tweaker, I can't lie, but he's a super fun professor who cares if you get the content. If you can deal with his "bits" and understand the meaning of why he does it, you'll do well in his class. If you ask for help in your life, he'll buy you dinner to talk about it. 10/10 would geek in his class again.
Professor is well-liked by many of his students across different classes, likely due to his friendly/peer-like approach. However, I believe that it is negative to blur teacher/student relations – it obvious in class and a bit uncomfortable to witness at times. The class itself: a good intro to law, weekly stories, no slides, very fair grading/hw.
Rich is one of the best professors that you can take at Stern!! He cares tremendously about the well being of his students. He is very accessible to talk about class, career advice, or just life in general. Although he does not use lecture slides, his use of story telling provides a better outstanding of the topics learned in the class.
Rich is the BEST professor at Stern! His teaching style, the use of telling stories, allows for us to have a real world grasp of the concepts taught in this class. The stories help a lot when writing the legal papers. Rich also cares immensely about his students!! If you ever have a problem you can always talk to him, he gives the best advise!
Unc is the goat
I will forever remember Professor Rich and his class. Rich creates such a friendly and interactive learning environment where I not only learn about law, but also about life. He built community both with him and with my fellow peers. I left the class knowing everyone's name and speaking to all 25 students at least once throughout the semester!
Goated professor. My favorite class I've taken throughout university. If you want a "sage on the stage" class where the professor sits and reads slides at you while you memorize definitions and drill content - Rich isn't the professor for you. Much more of a collaborative approach and you need you get out what you put into the class.
E&L is the first class that genuinely feels like i'm having a conversation with an old friend (coming from someone in Gallatin). He is very talented in his delivery in that you will be engrossed in the class and he has a great personality! Very caring professor and truly wants his students to succeed. Sad I can't take more classes with him (senior)
definitely would describe him as "quirky". his classes aren't your typical lecture style, he encourages participation and WILL call on a random person if he wants to. I really liked his option of opting out of the final in exchange for a B/B+ in the class
He is a great professor. His lectures are genuinely interesting, and he encourages participation. He is a very helpful and reachable professor. But his classes are demanding and require you to actually read and do the work. Make sure you do the required readings!! His assignments were helpful and relevant. I gained a lot from his class.
