He is one of the nicest, most caring and genuinely interested advisors ever. He constantly goes out of his way to help his students, anyone who says otherwise doesnt know him at all.

He was always helpful in and out of class, you just have to get to know him.

Great professor. I'm a poli sci major and he's the best one in the department. He gives clear notes in class and the test come straight from the notes. Plus, he's a conversative, so if you tell him you love Bush, he loves you back.

Himelfarb is awesome. Why should he or any other professor cut anyone slack? This is college. If you hand in crap, your grade will be crappy. You get what you deserve with Himelfarb. It's not his fault some people can't write a decent paper

Unquestionably one of the best professors at Hofstra. You will learn so much about government and politics; however, you must show up, pay attention and take notes that will serve as a refresher prior to exam time. One of my all-time fave profs/courses.

Great teacher, easy class if you have all the notes and study them, his test are all based on the notes. The only hard thing was his term paper, but he doesn't grade them too harshly. Besides, he is funny and you don't need to read the text book at all.

Wonderful Professor, he is a Republican but is open minded to people with Democratic viewpoints. Just show up, take notes, and study from the notes and you will do fine. I hated politics and knew very little of it, but I learned a great deal from him and actually started to like politics.

Professor Himelfarb is great. His class is not easy, but you learn a lot, and he is as entertaining as a stand up comic. I can never concentrate in class, but he keeps you focused on what he's teaching you. Highly recommended.

Ok so heres the deal. Yes you learn alot, yes he is biased, but yes he does present both sides of the coin rather fairly. The problem is a 10 essay question midterm (you must answer all 10) and a 10 essay question final is slightly psycho. Even if we had to answer 5 of 10 it would still be nuts.

all his classes just read the notes. NOTHING IN THE BOOKS WILL BE ON TESTES. THAT IS FOR EVERY CLASS

I REALLY enjoyed this class. I learned so much. Yes the mid-term and final are 10 SHORT essay questions but they are not too bad if you pay attention! I got over a 90 on the mid-term. He is too conservative for me..but, that is easy to deal with.

The best professor I've had at Hofstra. Entertaining, intelligent and just a nice guy. Not an impossible grader, but expects you to actually pay attention in class and read. I know that's hard for most Hofstra students. Take him.

Professor Himelfarb is AWESOME! He never gives any homework except for keeping up with the readings which aren't even really necessary if you show up to class and take notes. Only one research paper due towards the end of the semester and a midterm and a final. Take his class-he's the BEST!!

Himelfarb is a good professor and knows the topic very well. U only have a mid-term, final, and 1 paper all semester. He is very conservative, but likes to hear things from the other side. I would recomend him, but you have to take good notes and study for his test, because his test are based on his notes.

Prof. Himelfarb is a conservative & is slightly abrasive at times, however, he is definitely worth listening to. When you don’t hear the flip side of an argument you miss out. He brings appropriate balance to the liberalism commonly seen on campus. His class is worth taking for any student, & you will be better for it at the end of the semester.

But then knowing this class is going to be a joke compared to the rigors of AP where I got a 3,I never participate but that’s where he takes advantage of everything because he always comes in the class and starts looking at us with an awkward face and makes remarks

Himelfarb is awesomeee - he might be a little bit biased (to say the least)..however he is def one of the most interesting and knowledgable professors on campus. He is always willing to help you in any way he can.

My second class with Himelfarb... He's great! He's a very smart man and you actually learn something in this class if you listen, take notes and study for the midterm and final. Yes, he's a Republican, but I think his classes are very fair. He's not an ideologue. He calls out either side when he thinks they're wrong. I plan on taking him again soon

Very good class and professor. As long as you take good notes and study them, you should do well. If your of the liberal persuasion, he does have a very strong conservative leaning. Other than that, the class is preety simple and easy.

He is very helpful with the assignments he gives. Always available during office hours. TAKE NOTES IN CLASS AND DO NOT LEAVE THE CLASSROOM LEST YOU MISS SOME INFORMATION. He's rather funny and enthusiastic.

Professor Himelfarb is by far my most favorite professor here at Hofstra. I got an A in this class.. He doesn't take attendance, but YOU NEED TO GO and take good notes and you'll do wonderful. I took this class because it fit my schedule, no other reason, and since I'm graduating, I was the oldest person in the class, but I have to tell you, Prof. HImelfarb shot to the top of my list of best professors I've taken. He is awesome; def. take every class you can with him!!!!

Himelfarb is the man. for poli-sci 1, there's only two test and a paper. all of your tests are on the class notes and reading is only if you feel like reading it. don't buy the book if you plan on going to every class because you HAVE to go to his classes to do well. very funny and interesting. Professor Himelfarb my be the most conservative professor you'll ever have and if you take his class you better know who the chief justice and how many members of the house there are but other than those small things hes a great professor and would recommend him, as long as you do your work you'll get a good grade.

Himelfarb is... interesting? Very conservative and doesn't hide it. You learn a lot, but you can't tell if what you're learning is being swayed in that conservative direction. Clearly doesn't like Clinton or Obama, and he's a Bush supporter through and through, so that tells you a lot right there. Also a tough grader.

Himelfarb is great. Must attend class to do well on the final & midterm. Questions come from class notes & things happening in real life. He often would start class chatting about the primaries and that would last a good 20 minutes, but it kept the class talking. Definately take him if you can! Best teacher I've had at Hofstra yet!

Himelfarb likes to talk. I never opened my book because he lectured every class. You HAVE to go to class or else you will not do well. Two exams and a big paper that he grades pretty hard. He was actually really funny and I believe that he really wants to get to know each of his students. If you don't mind the loads of notes, then take him for sure

Himelfarb is very conservative and one sided in his teaching. And although he encourages you to share your point of view, he will shoot you down if your opinion doesn't fit with him, so be careful with what you say. However, as a person he is very friendly and helpful, and tends to make class fun with a few jokes here and there.

Great teacher, loves his subject matter and reflects his life experience and lessons in his teachings. He may be conservative but even if you are at the opposite side of the spectrum this causes you to challenge his arguments in class. Always open to liberal thought will never make fun of your belief unless you are too radical.

Class was difficult. Only 3 grades. Paper, Midterm, Final. Paper is graded very harshly. Nice guy but very conservative. Do not try to argue with him. Midterm isn't terrible but need to review everything. If you dislike politics do not take him.

I love my class with Professor "Himelfarbulous!" He is extremely Conservative, but he's not a mindless Liberal-hater. He's very intelligent and funny, and although he rants quite a bit, it's entertaining. I would take another class with him in a heartbeat.

He really tries to keep the lectures interesting and makes jokes and compares the material to real life. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. Didn't need to open it once. Tests are purely from notes on lectures which are pretty clear.

I've taken a couple classes with prof Himelfarb and I've enjoyed them all. Do I agree with his politics? Hardly ever. But it forces you to examine your own beliefs much more deeply and come up with reasons why you believe x, y or z. As a poli sci major I've found that incredibly valuable. He is extremely conservative and will try to impose his views on you. The overall class isn't hard, but he is a big pill to try and swallow at 930 in the morning. He is very opinionated; therefor, he doesn't take opposite view points very well. I am not a fan of his, but his class wasn't unbearable or painful.

Diehard conservative, will constantly remind you of it. Don't argue with him too much, it just takes up time & makes him hate you. I wrote a paper basically against all the opinions he preaches, and he still gave me a good grade. Fair grader, intelligent, funny at times. Over exaggerates current events. Yes, everyone knows Himelfarb is an adamant conservative but he knows it and recognizes other ideologies. Go to class, pay attention, and work hard and you will do fine. His exams come directly out of class and are relatively easy compared to other polisci classes at Hofstra.

Easy class except for 1 research paper that he grades harshly. Gives extra credit. Tests are all based on his lectures. Very conservative but it's bearable most of the time. Easy to listen to he makes a dry subject very interesting and has a great sense of humor. If you give him respect, he gives it right back.

Prof. Himelfarb likes to discuss his personal ideas in class but remains a good professor. I have had no bad experiences with his grading system and I think his lectures are very good. He is not boring and expects classroom discussion. Above average but not great professor.

This professor is my favorite at Hofstra. Always willing to talk to you outside of class to even just discuss current politics. His midterm was not too bad as long as you study the note and the paper he assigned was straight forward. He is conservative but wont tell you you're wrong if you're liberal. He is clear and organized when teaching. He's easily approachable and teaches a lot during discussions. I didn't know anything before this class, but he is an awesome teacher. i would study for his tests.... they're straight forward from CLASS NOTES so attendance isn't mandatory but it matters. I don't think I could have passed w/o being there.

Himelfarb definitely knows his stuff. He makes some pretty funny jokes, too. He does his best to keep the class entertained, but his concise, organized teaching style can be difficult sometimes. Attendance is not mandatory, but class notes are absolutely.

Himelfarb is an AMAZING professor. He is extraordinarily kind, helpful, and knowledgeable about American politics. The exams come straight from the notes--you don't even have to read the textbooks! He doesn't take attendance, but there is ALWAYS a correlation between attendance and your overall grade in any class. Work hard and you will be fine.

This is an underrated professor. He tells some pretty funny jokes whenever he gets the opportunity. There is no doubt this guys knows what he is talking about. The tests are straight from the notes, so you have to go to class. He is a tough grader on the paper, but he curves tests. Overall, a good guy...I would take him again.

GO TO OFFICE HOURS AND HE WILL LOVE YOU!! Although he repeats himself a lot, make sure you take great notes. If you do not miss a class, and take good notes, you won't need the textbook and especially won't have to worry about passing. I got an A- with a B on the paper, two 90+ on the tests, and one 68. One test grade can bring you down. STUDY!!!!!

I took this class as a distribution class thinking it was going to be terrible. However, I learned a lot, he was extremely helpful, and actually enjoyed going to the class. To me, he was very funny and we constantly engaged over his love and my hatred for Fox news. He definitely has opinions, but loves to debate. If you have to PSC, take his class.

Dr. Himelfarb was one of the most straight-forward professors I've ever dealt with. His class was clearly laid out: deadlines, assignments, expectations. You did the work, turned it in, and you were graded on the quality of your efforts. Not sure what this class would be like in person but the online was thorough and a pleasure to participate in

Oh, Professor Himelfarb. I've taken 3 classes with this man. He's a lot of fun, especially if you lean right. Although he loves to debate those who do not (and all of his arguments are based on facts). He's clear cut in his teaching and grading policy. A little harsh grader when it comes to the term paper(s), so you will have to work for it.

I loved this guy. We also shared political views for the most part, so that helped. He's very hilarious and sarcastic which is a nice feature. The main thing that I would recommend is that it is necessary to study. I did an awful job on the final because it really was just a tough week and a lack of time management. Not on him, one bit. Take him.

Most of the time, even if he presents both sides of the story, you'll notice he'll make the side he doesn't agree with sound kind of stupid. so if you get easily offended - be warned! However, you will learn a lot from him. He engages really well with students but he can be very critical as a conservative

Thought he was terrible when I took his class. Then I graduated, came out of my shell, actually learned about human behavior in the field, WORKED, saw what excessive regulation does to citizens, and found out what separates successful people from the envious. Now, I wish I could take Himelfarb again and tell him how right he was.

Took Professor Himelfarb twice. Love him! He's a conservative and makes that clear from Day 1, however, he strongly encourages hearing from students who disagree with him unlike most other political science professors. For the midterm and final, make sure you read the power points! If there's a list, memorize it! That will be the essay question.

I absolutely loved Professor Himelfarb's class!! He is an amazing professor, but his political views are on the right. He is always willing to hear other points of view and debate is encouraged in his class, but if you don't like having your political views being challenged don't take his class.

If you are actually interested in learning more about political science and youre not lazy than the class won't be that hard. And this guy is disturbingly intelligent (at a fault sometimes and can be a little cocky but always allows students to challenge him) so its worth the ride. Im taking him again next semester

I took this class online for the January session so it was extremely condesnsed. Homework almost every day which was to be expected but if you're good at time management, it's a really good way to knock out some credits. Prof H gives really good feedback and grades fairly. I never met him in person but he seemed nice through email.

He's very opinionated about his political views & often has short arguments with students in class over them. He's a decent professor, but very hardheaded

Professor Himelfarb is a great teacher. You will learn a lot about politics and our political system with him. He is always open for discussions and often argues with viewpoints to challenge you to support your claims. Would definitely recommend taking his class.

If you study the powerpoints and take notes on them in class and on what he talks about you will do EXCELLENT. The paper is a little tricky to get started on but he is more than happy to help! Himelfarb has exactly the opposite political alignment of me, making it a very interesting class. However, he is very open to hearing other POVs and told me he enjoyed having me in class specifically because I challenged his views. It's always important to be open to understanding the other side, even if you don't agree. Class itself was easy!

He doesn't take attendance but you should go. He is really fair and overall a great professor. Don't be afraid to share your opinions even if they are different than his, I firmly disagree with him on just about everything but he encouraged participation and has respect for other perspectives. your grade is 3 tests, a paper and participation.

Not bad for an online class. Admittedly I had heard some bad things but I didnt see any of them online. He was super generous with grading, textbook was not really needed, always gave feedback and even things to read if youre passionate. Might have dropped my grade a little for conflicting opinions but I was also very lazy and deserved that.
