Great easy class if you dont' take it at 8am

Funny guy. goes off on tangents about kids and Cougar football. Book not neeeded, well maybee a little. Easy to get by with a B as long as you go to class and pay attention. Makes class interesting. Cool Guy

Great, great, great professor. Took both GenEd 110 and 111 from him. Makes history intresting and you want to come to class. Essay test are pretty easy and many times he tells you what ones will be on the test. If only all professors should be this good

gives you the test a week b4. Just attend the review day AND BRING A RECORDER cause he talks about the test questions LONGER than the questions that aren't on the test. I've had him 2 semesters and got 2 "A"'s.

Very good teacher... always throwing in anecdotes about his family. Talks really fast, doesn't write anything down, but anything you miss is probably in the book. He gives out a study guide well in advance, and lets the class vote off certain IDs/essays

I had him for 111 and 110, damn easy, as well as interesting. He talks about his life, which is great, the first minutes of class. He tells you the main points to his tests. Just listen and you win! He even gives extra credit if you show up before breaks!

The lectures are so incredibly boring I stopped going to class altogether about halfway into the semester. No one can make this subject material interesting. I still got an A though so the class is easy. Just don't get a **** TA that grades ridiculously.

Take this teacher if you want to learn. He is hands down the best teacher I have ever had. He incorporates all aspects of life into lessons that make it interesting. If anyone votes bad for this guy, its because they got a****ty TA.

Good professor! Provides a lot of information in a quick manner, but it's really interesting and he's a good speaker. Class is fairly easy, but I suggest you go as often as possible, most of the test material is from lecture. I will take 111 from him.

The class overall was easy and interesting. To study for tests, USE THE STUDY GUIDE and prewrite all the answers using your book and a little from the notes(notes lacking in content) for information. Also I loved the stories about his family, very funny and reminds me he is a real person!

Wasn't sure what to think of him at first. Soon became evident that he is a great professor and really likable. Easier class, but fair. Tells lots of great stories making him easy to relate too.

He makes class interesting. The tests are easy as long as you attend class regularly and pay attention. PS he has the most funny stories

Hines is a freakin' stud. His class was easy and he's very funny. He made us laugh out loud at least once a day. His stories about his daily life are classic more often then not. I would definately do everything you can to get into one of his gen ed classes.

Easiest and most fun class I took this semester. He is hilarious. Guaranteed he makes you laugh at least once every time in class. Take him if you want at least a B.

Hines is very interesting and makes going to his lectures enjoyable. Tests are ok as long as you attend lectures, and completely do the study guides. Sometimes he is very unclear during lecture, and has a tendancy to switch topics spontaneously, but it's not so bad. Awesome professor overall!

Hines is an awesome professor. Probably one of the best history professor's I've ever had. It's great having him and thanks to him I've taken an interest in history and it has become my major. Hines's is hilarious and his classes are something that every student should try and take.

Hines is the man! I strongly recommend that if you have the choice, you take this guy. It will give you a completely different outlook on history.

I've had him for both 110 and 111. His teaching style is basic lecturing, but it can be hard to take notes from because he just talks and doesn't really outline anything. He's great though, and pretty damn funny. I'd recommend him to everyone.

A very good teacher who keeps class interesting by telling everything like a story. He always gets the attention of the class by telling a funny story about his family. There aren't many assignments, the grading is extremely easy, and if you have a 95% or better you are exempt from the final exam.

Great class, even better professor. His teaching style is awesome, and I've learned more from his lectures than in ANY other class. Take both 110 and 111 from him if you can! Hint: go to the review sessions before exams... VERY helpful!

HE IS GREAT! Three exams and you get to cross a bunch of stuff off of the study guide.If you show up when no one else does he gives between 5-10 points extra credit. He is awsome and I would not take anyone else for this class.

He's a really fun teacher! I had a good time learned a fair amount. His tests are takehome and we had to write one paper. Pretty easy class with a fun teacher I recommend this class.

Hines is a great lecturer and is very knowledgable is this subject. I would have to say that the easiness of this class totally depends on the TA. My (not so smart) friend took this class with a different TA and he got easy As on tests. I wasn't so lucky and got a harder grading TA.

if you go to class and take good notes the tests will be a piece of cake. you get to hear some nice family stories too

What do I got to say that hasnt been said? His lectures are on boring ass issues and somehow I couldnt wait to hear him tell it, cause he actually made history interesting. If only all teachers could teach like that.

Dr. Hines rocks my socks off. It's not that I don't like history, but it wasn't really my strongest suit in high school. Despite this fact, Dr. Hines tells crazy stories about his family and life and ties it into the class and he's still really cool and interesting about it. Be lucky to take him for Gened.

as long as you go to the class before a test youll know the answers! he tells you what to say!!!!! i love this class, loved hearing about his son getting sick in the car over the weekend

So...I love coming to class b/c half of it is spend just talking about his family and the police logs. Hes raelly down to earth and loves what hes teaching. he also has a wealth of knowledge, but he has alot of students. So I would take the time to get to know him, and you'll be better off. His ass. are long, so start early. He talks alot, so have good note taking skills. Shoing up will get you on the plus side, but its not neccessary to pass. Tho his classes arent boring, so you'll be interested.

A great teacher. Bumped me up to an A from an A- because i needed to get re-instated to school. :)

the guys stories are worth listening too and he has a pretty cool way to teaching. I haven't had a test yet but if its anything like his teaching style it'll be fine.

Completely awesome teacher; his lectures are hilarious, as are his pre-lectures about his family goings-on. He knows his stuff like none other, and its practically impossible not to pay attention. Exams can be difficult, however; if you don't study, don't expect a good grade. But if you have an A by end of semester, you don't have take the final!

TAKE THIS GUY'S CLASS! He's full of random stories and usually spends the first 20 minutes of class talking about his family. Best of all, he knows a TON about the subject and makes it super interesting! You've gotta take GenEd andyou might as well enjoy the class, so take it from this guy! He's awesome.

Hines is one of my favorite teachers I have taken at this university. I went to every class not cuase its suggested but because it was interesting everyday. Most of all he's real, and i like that about him. I don't know if he is stil teaching but i search for classes to take just from him. As long as you go to class and study you'll do just fine.

Most enjoyable class to be in because of not only his random stories but his knowledge of the subject, in short Hines makes the subject fun and it is actually one class I am disappointed to miss.

Too much to say! This guy is a work of art. He even has a fan club. He begins every lecture w/ stand up comedy!! The tests are a breeze if you liseten and study, preexam papers are graded fairly and i didnt have to take the final bc/ i got above a 94%. Be glad that you have a great teacher like Hines and dont take him for granted.

Overall, Dr.Hines is a great professor. He is hard to follow in class, however, when it comes time for tests his tests are easy and by reading the text book you can find almost everything you need to know. Dr. Hines loves his kids and will share many stories about his kids. He has a good sense of humor too.

I don't know what's going on in every class, because he doesn't use ppt or notes, but I still get an A, and I don't have to take final. The exams are easy if you read the textbook, and a nice TA helps.

Take this class. I went to class three times during the semester to pick up the assignment for the TAKE HOME EXAMS and I got an A in the class. You have to be able to write well in order to pull that off. Really cool teacher and I did learn a lot through the readings that I did on my own. Def Recommend.

Dr. Hines is wonderful! I enjoyed his lectures, as well as Dr. Frank Hill's because of the humor and the passion that they put with their lectures. He loves his sons, who seem fascinating, and hates his ex-wives. History is like a big story to him, and make sure you go to class! Take notes and ask questions! Answer his in-class questions! Study!

I never liked history before I took his class. He's very funny and keeps you entertained. It was one of the only classes I have ever looked foward to going to.

Love the class and especially love the stories about his kids! Anyone who doesn't like the stories is just jealous they dont have kids to tell cool stories about!

OK some people say that you didn't have to go to class in order to do well, BUT I went to class and some of my friends didn't and they didn't get as good of a grade on some things as I did. Hines is AMAZING!!!! I honestly loved loved loved going to class! I am so glad I had him and anyone else who does is lucky! Wonderful professor!

Ok hines is a baller first of all i loved him. And he may not be the best teacher the world has ever seen but he's entertaing and BY FAR the best Gened teacher you can take at WSU. Whatever you do Dont take Sellen!

I ended up taking three classes from this guy. He is an easy grader and relatively interesting lecturer. Definitely best in the department at least for low level classes.

He knows his stuff. Awesome lectures. Pretty funny. I had a great TA who was super helpful. Take good notes in class and you won't have to touch the book.

Interesting lectures, tends to let class out early. The books isn't really necessary, attendance either, but you won't do good on exams. Gives plenty of info prior to exams, which makes them rather easy.

He was really cool, and liked to tell stories about his kids everyday before class which was always good. He relates with students well and the tests were super easy and exactly what he says they are. I would go just because i enjoyed him. I recommend more than any other Gen Ed teacher.

Hines made life a lot easier for me. He will tell you anything you need to know and then some. He is always happy to help. Also, Dr. Hines will always be lenient when it comes to missing something - trust me, I know. He can be a bit boring at times but he is all in all a great professor.

Dr. Hines is a great professor because he is very understanding and really knows his material. If he offered other classes I would take it from him.

This is a great guy. Knows his stuff and is really funny. Only time you really use the book is to study for exams. which are perty easy. all easy format but all you have to do is identify with the 5w and historical significance and 1 essay and youll ace it. a couple other essays but are not bad.

Best teacher I've had so far, very down to Earth and great to be in class. Tests are composed of essays and pre-exam papers, in which you can be very vague and still get a high A. Makes things clear and doesnt deal with technical jargon even with the depth of the topics. Class itself is pretty easy. Voted best teacher for a reason, take him.

Very passionate about the subject matter, will interject with random facts and the like. Usually begins the lesson with a ridiculous story about his family. Easy test matter but grade is mostly dependent on TA. Take his class, you won't regret it.

Great teacher! Passionate about history. I'm not a history person, but I find his class interesting. The class is lecture based. His tests are easy-there are 3 of them in total which require memorizing terms and writing a brief essay on one of 4 previously assigned prompts. Also doesn't require students take final exam if you have an A in the class

he is the best prof i have ever had. his class is fun. Exams aren't that hard, we had two exams and the final is take home, and if you get an A in the class before the final you don't have to take the final. he is helpful ;). highly recommended

I sometimes forgot I took this class because it was so easy. Tests are simple but easy to learn from, he reviews all the answers beforehand so just take notes and you'll be fine. Don't buy the book, its a waste. Lectures are a little monotonous but never last the full time. Plus he always starts the day with a story about his kids which is cute :)

He was a great Professor.

Very easy class with little work, so you grade depends on a few papers and tests. The exams and papers are cake, he gives you the answers the class before the test. Your grade can really slip from one poor paper, so spend a good amount of time on them.

Hines is a great professor who really knows what he is teaching. Few tests, and papers, but that is all your grade is based off of. Very helpful and entertaining to listen to-just take notes.

Mr. Hines really is the best history teacher at WSU. He made learning fun and interesting. Most classes would open with a story about his 3 sons. Tests were easy because he gave you a study guide and we got to vote off questions we didn't like before the test. There are a couple papers which were graded easy. Tons of extra credit, about 6% worth.

Professor Hines really knows his stuff. The lectures were always interesting which made going to class easier than others. And the man has a sense of humor.

He really loves history and you can tell! He really knows the subject and he makes it interesting. We barely had any homework, the exams were essay based so as long as you came to class and took notes you could ace the exams.

Professor Hines was a very interesting professor, probably my favorite thus far. He makes the lectures interesting, telling anecdotes and such to liven up the class. You might even see him around Pullman at Safeway of Walmart. Good teacher, glad I got to take a class with him.

I didn't use the book much, but it helps on the final paper and if you don't go to class you can read the book (but you should GO TO CLASS). He's great!

BOSS STATUS

Attended this class in 2013. He makes the content easy to understand and very interesting-I found myself wanting to know more! Book use is quite minimal and if you attend and truly pay attention to the lectures getting the grade will come natural because you probably actually learned something while you were there!!

Dr. Hines was an exceptional teacher. He pushed me to look beyond and challenged me on my assumptions. He was also able to shed light on a whole areas of history that I overlooked. He was also available for questions and gave great advice.
