rick is a cool teacher. he actually takes the time to help you if you need it. he explains everything to you step by step in order for you to understand. he has a great sense of humor which makes the class really fun.
great teacher! tried to clearly explain all math concepts, and made them easy to understand. pretty funny guy, made calculus bearable.
Almost did not pass due to a very small margin of error. We worked out the issue though, just had to talk to him. Very good teacher who is always willing to explain things clearly and is a great person in general.
Rick is so cool, he allows you to call him by his first name. He's not the usual stuffy type teachers, he's wacky too which makes him funny at times.
Rick is the best teacher i've ever had. He is funny, helpful and makes class interesting. very good at the subject and although calc is a hard subject he makes it much easier.
Quirky. Hyper in the mornings, but a good teacher. keeps most of us awake, anyway.
he's a really good teacher and explain well. he makes the class interesting and makes it easy to learn...even for someone like me who hates math
he goes really fast and is not that helpful his tests are really hard and confusing he is a nice guy but not a good teacher believe me i took him and wasted my time hearing him talk.
Somewhat fast pace. He helps you understand the problems. Really easy to get along with, and he prefers the class to call him Rick.
he is the hardest teacher i ever took he grades the tests really hard, tests extremely difficult no matter wat u have on ur index card. If u don't have a C average on the tests hw don't count for anything, so basicly theres no point of doing it. Quizes too do not count if u don't have a C average on tests so the class grade is only on ur tests.
Somewhat of a hard teacher but very helpful and nice. Does a lot of group quzzies and you get to use note cards on his test.
he's a good guy, if you need help he will be there, but be prepared to do lots of work. if your looking for a free ticket this teacher is not your man. if your looking for a teacher that will keep you thinking this teacher is the one you want.
Hard teacher...doesn't curve and is really unhelpful...confuses u more..i don't recommend him at alllllllllllll...if u take him ur putting ur self at risk....he is horrible!!:(
Good teacher. He likes the students to call him Rick. He's available at the office hours if you need help, but also likes students to ask questions in class. He'll explain things until you get them, just keep asking questions if you're unsure. Funny and energetic, he made trig interesting.
hes a kool guy very helpful
Rick is a good math teacher. He encourages you to ask questions and to see him for office hours where he can help you out more, and I recommend you take the opportunity to do so.
He's a great teacher! Very clear and helpful if your confused!!!

if u want an A in his class...goodluck
Rick is a GREAT math teacher. He is an expert (which is what you want). He is very clear and has good analogies and examples. He is a good EXPLAINER. Cares about his students. It is fair to say that anyone who bad mouths Rick is certainly confused in the head.
He's tough! But gave us TONS of extra credit for going to the MESA center to get tutored if we needed extra help. even gave us 10 points extra credit to talk to Tiffany, the lady who works at MESA. just say hello and talk! He gives a lot of group quizzes that become take home if you don't finish. He's REALLY enthusiastic about math!
Rick is an awesome professor who is passionate about math. He is available for help when you are in desperate need. Trigonometry is a difficult subject to understand, but he tries his best to make you understand the concept. Just attend class everyday and do the work, and if you still don't know what's up then ask for help.
Great teacher! He will help you in any way he can. Easy to understand math when you take him. I recommend him for students who is really bad of understanding math.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. HE IS A HARD TEACHER. HE WON'T HELP YOU IF YOU'RE FAILING. HE WILL TELL YOU TO DO BETTER BE NOT TELL YOU HOW! I WASTED MY TIME IN HIS CLASS!
Rick is one of, if not the most caring and helpful teacher I have ever had...He is genuinely in it for the students and I appreciated his concern for the well-being of his students and their success. I would recommend him to anyone!!!
Cool Beans!!
I LOVE THIS GUY !
Such a nerd of a teacher. Dude is really, and I mean REALLY into his math. He's funny & gives u a list of all the HW for the semester. class coulda been funner if the students were more active. I recommend u take this class (and any class for that matter)with a friend cus ppl (the students) are so boring when it comes to math!
70-79=c,80-89=B, 90+=A. pretty standard grading system, no curve, BUT he will will give you points where he can. quizzes are take home, tests every 3-4 weeks. Very HELPFUL, make any honest effort, and you will pass.
Rick is AWESOME! the hot pepper is JUST for him. He knows what it's about ;) He loves to teach and is almost always available to help after class. H.W. is 10 points and you can do late assign. for half credit. His tests are SUPER hard! =/ Do all h.w. and come to class regularly. Ask for help when you need it and you'll do fine.
i don't thik you have to take his class if you think you need to base. whatever you will study hard your grad will be done. and he love take out unite just becase. i don't recamendet to anyone. in one word the worse teacher i ever seen.i was late one day 5 min and he mark me as late. i left the classe early one time and he marke my as absent
Rick is the MAN! I was terrified of returning to math, but he helped me fall in love with it. He will help anyone, anytime. Totally devoted and really wants you to get an A. Take him!!
This teacher isnt that much helpful.....class is extremely hard for a lower math class....tests are much harder then homework and quizes given...not recommended....
Exams are pretty hard. Assigns homework every night. Do hw because they are easy points and he only grades on completion. Math is my worst subject but he's gives great help if you ask for it. If you slack off and don't ask for help, drop the class because he won't reach out to you himself. Show him your serious, and he'll help tons!
Rick is a very nice guy. But when he knows if you are struggling, whether you talk to him about it or not, he doesn't help you at all. He would tell you to retake the class, His exams are way too hard and too much to finish within an hour. In the end, 9 out of 10 people dropped out. I wouldn't recommend him if math isn't your strong subject.
Good teacher, really goes out of his way to help out students. Work isnt hard but it isnt easy either. Lets you redo all online quizzes and homework
Hes AWESOMEEEE!he'll explain everything until it's crystal clear! He'll do as much as he can to help you pass his class b/c trig itself can get pretty confusing. Txtbook & mymathlab is mandatory. u can redo all MML hw&quizzes to boost up your grades&he'll tell u which test to study on finals.Email [email protected] for cheap txtbook!
he talks like a fourteen year old nerd trapped in a grown man's body. Doesn't know how to teach and will occasionally give out poorly written quizzes. If you have any other options, take them. Take only as last resort like I did.
Rick is a really nice guy.. but he isn't extremely easy.. You HAVE to go to class everyday or he takes off points.. and you HAVE to turn in all homework or you wont get points for it, but he will let you correct it and turn it back in though. late = half points. tests are pretty hard but all open book/notes.
My first semester at Skyline I took this beginner's math class and almost freaked out. As an older student with math anxiety (basically I have an aversion to numbers)I wasn't catching on as quickly as everyone else. Rick was extremely helpful. Use his office hours and make study groups this will help immensely. Do the work and don't fall behind.
He's nice but that won't help cause I took this teacher twice and I had to end up dropping it. I did ALL my hw and NEVER missed class and I didn't pass. I don't recommend taking him.
Rick loves teaching math. Very helpful. Good Class.
Good class - gives time to retake tests and/or redo paper as many times you want. But he tend to be critical on miner mistakes.
Awesome guy, great class, couldnt ask for a better teacher
Great Teacher! Very helpful and makes jokes every now and then.
Seriously, Rick is the man! He and Ms. Daisy are probably going to be your best bets in getting through the math courses. He really explains things through, but you have to be able to pick up fairly fast at his pace. He's really cool and gives you enough chances to keep your grade up.
I have taken his 811,110,&120.He is incredibly clear,&really helpful- if you ask. Its math so the subject is hard- if you're failing rick's class its your own fault, you're just not putting in enough time, or asking for help.He is the only teacher that has ever made math clear to me,and I was always stoned in class. SO THANKFUL FOR RICK- TAKE HIM
not helpful at all, i basically have to teach myself, book sucks for the class. if u dont speak up you wont be helped because he only goes over problems people ask instead of all the problems.
Professor Hough, teaches class my last professor we had to complain before he started teaching anything. If I'm confused about something I can go office hours. Most of the kids in this class don't speak up either not until they are in group. A close mouth does not get feed. Oh! the book does suck because the department picked it not Professor.
Well for starters this guy is awesome, makes the class fun with his sense of humor. Very helpful if you ask, not a mind a reader so beware that if you don't ask for help he will answer your question.Hands online homework through Wileyplus which absolute piece of crap software but thats totally not his fault.Only wish is he'd give study guides
Awesome math teacher, he loves the subject and explains it clearly and fun, his class is wide awake and not boring at all! he wants you to ask a lot of questions because he wants you to learn what you don't get. no textbook required, he values attendance and gives online homework. Definitely would retake him.
Ricks class is pretty straight forward! You must come to class do all your work, and really out in the effort. If math is not your thing and you want a class to skate through than do not take this class. If your a student who hates easy teachers and loves the challenge that math has to offer than yes take this class..
took his stats class this passed summer... he told us like three days prior, that he hasnt taught the subject in over 10 years.. you can imagine how fearful i was.. hes a nice guy, but he let us down as a stats teacher.. he was definitely cruel for adding new material one day before the final... do not take him for stats.. its a death trap
Hough is a nice and funny guy. He is super laid-back with work. He loves when people asks questions, so ask away! You don't necessary have to be in class everyday because he posts all the lesson plans on web access. With homework, you can always change your grade until you get a 100% on it.
Rick is hilarious, helpful and really pushes resources your way so you can pass but it's up to you if you want to use it. He's very active on webaccess and posts up daily lesson plans for you to print before class. Honestly for most students it's hard for them to understand the concepts but it's different for me because I get it easily.
He does have the tendency to assign a bunch of projects (mainly Kahn Academy) that don't work and have nothing to do with the course. Besides that, however, he is a very good teacher; he explains things pretty well and gives fair tests.
Hard teacher,, missed too many class days. too many homework assignments and tests,,, TOO much work for an 811 class.
Super nice teacher. I've taken him several times.
he's ok as a math professor. he just talk a lot about what you need to do in order to become successful in college. he barely talks about math and always off topic when doing a lecture in math class and rather talk bout what you need to do in life after college rather than teach us math stuff and help us learn about the concepts of math.
You have to be proactive if you want to succeed in his class! Ask, ask, ask and he will be as helpful as can be. Be responsible and work on homework at your on pace but efficiently. He really made me love math after many years of full hate! So be there, ask and make use of group work and have fun! :)
Honestly, attendance is pointless. You can receive a B and not go to class. Just turn in your assignments on time along with getting an A on all of it. He is a hard grader & when you begin to fail, it is extremely hard to bring up. If you try to bring up your grade with attendance, its not going to help at all. So just ace all of your assignments.
Professor Hough is such a very nice and funny guy. He helps a lot anytime, he loves his students to ask him questions. His tests are not hard but you have to study to pass. He's really a good professor. Recommended
He will help you as much as he can before the xam to make sure you pass the class.
Rick is a good guy and a good teacher. If you stay on top of your homework and do well on your tests then I'm pretty sure you will be fine. He gives out extra credit things called like equate and then he has other projects too that can easily help your grade too. The class is hella easy if you know basic math.
hes a great teacher, you can tell he cares about his students and wants them to pass. He is always ready to help. Homework is online and not due til the end of the semester. If you come to class and are engaged this will be easy A. However, if you are constantly skipping you are going to struggle, i guarantee it.
AMAZING TEACHER! I had him for 2 different classes and loved them both. He emphasizes active participation, and a growth mindset to learn math, but really if you are not inherently a math person he will take the time you need to help you understand. Use his office hours, he is always open to help. Few teachers have this passion to help you succeed.
He is a great guy and very enthusiastic and all, but I feel like he isn't teaching and that we, the students, have to learn on our own and it's tough to do that. He talks a lot about things that don't relate to the problem or math but gives support still. BUT he really needs to start spending class time to actually teach us how to do trig.
He is really nice, but he barely even gives lectures/teaches the class. We have to learn on our own basically. It's really hard..
He is helpful when you ask
was very unhelpful,. unorganized. doesnt want to help 1 on 1 during office hours. sometimes we would ask questions and he wouldnt know the answer. makes you learn from peers or on your own.
Ricky Is Very Cool And Energetic
Waaay too much group work. He doesn't spend enough time explaining the material, he just makes us figure it out on our own in groups. When we ask for help, he tells us to ask another student. Group work can be helpful, but this was too much and I dropped the class because i wasn't learning anything. He's a nice guy but I did not like the class.
A lot of homework and as others have said prefers you learn from classmates.
Heavy on group work - in groups everyday, not everyone's best learning method. He moves very fast with the subject and it's easy to get lost and behind.
Doesn't teach well at all. Prefers you learn and work in groups and moves extremely fast. You can tell he's trying to be cool and fit in. Group/individual projects incoming for this class.
Ricky Hough is tough!
He's very energetic and eager to help his students the best way he can during class, office hours, and the workshops he sets up for students to come in and catch up on homework. Favorable to group work, projects, and participation.
Took him in Fall 2017, hes all about group projects and helping studetwith difficulties
Professor Hough is approachable, fair and kind but his lectures wont give you everything you need to pass Statistics. The Lock material is amazing. Do the practice questions and video tutorials, show up everyday and you will do well. Statistics is difficult without putting in the study time.
TERRIBLE, HE TALKS TOO MUCH ABOUT UNNECESSARY TOPICS WHICH MAKES IT EASY TO GET LOST IN HIS CLASS. HIS TIME MANAGEMENT SUCKS. HE DOESN'T FOLLOW THE SCHEDULE, WE'RE SUPPOSED TO GET A 10 MINUTE BREAK BETWEEN HIS CLASSES BUT WE DON'T GET THAT. HE CONTINUES TO LECTURE EVEN AFTER HIS CLASS NOT THINKING ABOUT HIS STUDENTS SCHEDULE. SOME PEOPLE HAVE WORK
Rick was the best instructor I have ever had at Skyline College. I read some of the previous reviews on him and I am absolutely disgusted with what people have said about him. He's helpful, always there for you when you need him, and wants EVERYONE TO PASS. Question everything, see him during his office hours, and you will pass no problem!
In all honesty, Rick has been the best instructor I've EVER had. The work is challenging but you just have to meet him halfway. He's very vocal about the help he offers. I don't know how people can speak negative about someone who genuinely cares? Just show up, participate, and ask for help. Rather then expect the teacher just hand you an "A".
i think he's got the wrong idea by dividing the percentages up for grading so much because this detracts from actual interest in learning; a problem common in education today. You'll find yourself spending hours taking notes and journaling. ALWAYS make sure to double check your work in this class. Eventually it'll become unforgiving.
Rich is very caring, be ready to do group work and be paying attention or you will fall behind because eveything matters in the beginning of the semester to do your own project within the class that you may present at the end of the semester. his hw is quite heavy but he is always there to help, take advantage of those office hours major help.
Rick knows how to TEACH! Rick closely pays attention to each and every student in class and will patiently explain you a theory until you get it. You just do every homework and go to his office hours, you'll 100% succeed in his class. Rick is lenient about late policy too. He just wants you to actually learn without worrying about grades!
