Keeps u awake, although the material is tough. Its intresting and he's fun..
he is awesome
Did a great job explaining the material. He was able to make the class fun, even though the information was not very easy to understand
He is very organized and does a good job teaching! the material itself is hard, so you must put a lot of work into this class. but hubbard does a very good job teaching the class.
Great teacher....but u must study
Dr Hubbard is an awesome organic teacher. he makes class very interesting. i enjoyed being in his class, infact use to look forward for the class. i would miss his teaching next semester for 2212, as he is not teachin. i would recommend DR Hubbard 100%, not only he is a good teacher, but very helpful too.
Extremely EASY!!! I crammed the night before for every test and got a 100 on the first test, 97 on the second test, 90 on the third test, and 94 on the fourth test. Final was extremely easy too. Never went to class. My friends hated me.
This class was EXTREMELY hard! going to classes and taking notes everytime were NOT enough!! u have to keep up with the class by reading the text and doing hw problems everyday!!! like me, most people didnt do that, and the class average for last two tests was like 50 something.. However, the teacher was very nice and easy to talk to..
It's organic chemistry...it's not easy and you have to devote your life to studying. Of all the chem professors, Dr. Hubbard is the most down to earth and will do his best to help you. He offers study sessions and tutor reccomendations. GET A TUTOR IF YOU CAN!!!
Hubbard is the best teacher for this class. He is always willing to help during his office hours. Take mock exams if offered and get a copy of Organic Chemistry as a Second Language even though its not required. Get a tutor if you have trouble before the first test. READ AHEAD! Getting an A is possible if you are willing to put in a TON of tim
Great teacher! Makes hard organic class a bit less stressful. Explains concepts well. Good notes given on webct...just pay attention in class, minimum note taking necessary.
hard class, good teacher
He's fair.
Hubbard is amazing! Best teacher I've ever had, hands down! If you read the chapter, follow his notes and do the end of chapter problems, you'll do very well in his class.
I had Dr. Hubbard for both 2211 and 2212, and I loved the class. Organic isn't a breeze (contrary to what that person above said. If there was an eyerolling smiley, I'd use it here.) You have to be willing to study a lot to earn an A...and people sometimes like to take it out on their professor when they get a mediocre/poor grade. Notice that Hubba
Dr. Hubbard was a great teacher. OCHEM is a difficult subject but he did a lot to make it easier. He also likes to make jokes, sometimes corny but makes lecture a little more light hearted. Tests were very fair but you definitely need to spend time with the book and working on the homework problems.
This is a hard class, but Dr. Hubbard is the best teacher of it. His pace, organization, and attitude make the material very easy to understand. You need to read the text and do the practice probs too to make an A. He is also funny, which helps to keep lecture light. He prepares you for the exam better than the other profs. Buy the modeling kit.
Hubbard is the best o chem teacher at this school. His notes are very organized, and he clearly explains the material. He knows who works hard. If you cry to him about your grade and he knows you have not put in 100 percent then he doesnt care at all. Work hard and the class won't be that bad.
He is very good in teaching and explaining the material. If you are going to taking o chem u must take him! the tests aren't too hard u just have to practice and study a lot for this class. O chem is known to be a hard class, but if you need help go to Hubbard even if you aren't in his class in his office hrs. He knows how to make you understand.
Great professor! Helpful and well-spoken. He entertains a lot of questions from the class, though, which slow lecture down, but besides that, he's great!
Easy professor as long as you read through the notes and at least look over the problems he assigns. Tests are really straightforward. Class does require memorization, but other than that it's not bad.
Amazing Teacher. He cares about his students and would rather you understand the material than care too much about grades.
ive heard that hes an amazing teacher and how easy he is. But i dont think thats particularly true. There are already enough information in the book but he adds a whole lot more to it. I know hes not trying to make class hard but still, it was ridiculous. his tests are too long for an hour and half. They're not the easiest but they're just "ok"
Dr. Hubbard was a dream come true. He is by far the best teacher in the Chemistry department. Go to the office hours, it really helps.
His lectures are okay and he explains things well. The tests are a little too long, but the questions are fair (get a hold of old tests!) He isn't as available as I wish he was (that might be because it's summer), and if there's a review session that day, there's no office hours. Overall, an average/good prof.
Dr. Hubbard is the best chem teacher at UGA. It is a very difficult subject, but he is willing to help you if you want it. I went to his office hours regularly and that made it easier to learn the subject. He is sooooooooo awesome. Go to class everday to help you better understand the subject. Just study daily and yu'll do great!!!!!!!!!
Hard class. Hubbard is a good teacher. Explains things well. Test can be tricky. Go to class and study.
Hubbard is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is extremely organized, clear, and gives very fair tests. The tests aren't easy, but they are easier than the other professors. It's very possible to get an A with him.
OChem is difficult, no matter how you look at it. Hubbard makes it difficult, but I don't blame him. He is probably the best OChem prof at UGA, but even though that is true, STUDY ALL THE TIME. The only way to do good under Hubbard is to at least do some book problems every night. No joke. If you don't, your test grades will get lower and lower.
O-Chem is the hardest class at UGA by far, and Hubbard doesnt do much to help. He makes the tests hard as hell and wont really care if the average test grade was sub-50. Trust me it happened twice this semester.
This is a very hard class but the professor is just so nice. The first test is easy as well as the second test. However the third test needs you to learn the line reactions backwords and forwards. The fourth test is what i thought to be tricky. Hubbard is just a good guy and he is a good professor. He is pretty funny in his own way as well.
Hubbard is the teacher you want for organic 1 and probably 2. Hubbard is very clear however his tests are a challenge. Twice the avg was below a 60 and Hubbard did seem concerned. Practice problems are key at least a week of studying is needed for the exams.participation with clicker questions. An A is possible in 2211 with Hubbard. w/ hard work
Great Professor!! Devoted to the class and his students. His lectures are very clear and easy to understand. You just have to put a lot of effort in the class in order to do well in the class. I highly recommend this class, you wont regret it!
he is a great professor! organic chemistry is hard but he is always there to help you out. He is a funny guy as well, definitely take ochem with this professor.
I took the first and second organic chemistries with Dr. Hubbard, and WOW, he was the "dream come true" everyone made him out to be. I had to work hard, but you will come to learn that every test is incredibly fair and straightfoward, as far as o chem goes. The people that **** about Hubbard just didn't work hard or couldn't cut it, I can promise.
I took Hubbard for ochem 1 and he was an amazing professor. Ochem is hard but he made it easier because he is so good at explaning things. Get some old tests and you should be fine! Don't expect that you can just get an A without studying though, it's still a hard class.
SUCH a GREAT professor! Makes chemistry seem easier! You still have to study, obviously. He is great because you can come after class and ask him things and he'll explain things really well. He also has office hrs and will help you out if you seek him out. He's hot too btw!
Dr. Hubbard is awesome! He isn't trying to trick you. Work the problems in the back of the book & you'll be fine. It helps to have old tests b/c these give you a good idea of the types of questions he'll ask.
DO NOT take this class over the summer with hubbard. Tests are nothing like the hw or what is taught in class.
He's good at teaching, but that's about it; the class is so boring that I struggle to stay awake. He makes the subject seem more boring than it is; just read the textbook and do the chapter problems. He's helpful during his office hours, but he seems mildly annoyed that students actually come to his office hours. He's not enthusiastic at all.
Because he is awesome and funny, I was able to easily understand the concepts and stay awake for the entire summer morning class. He's the best ochem 1 & 2 professor at UGA. He is organized and make things much easier to understand. If you read the book, do the problems, and read his notes, then you will do fine in the class.
Dr. Hubbard is the best ochem 1 and 2 teacher at UGA. He's funny, knows his stuff, and makes the tests very fair. You know your stuff, you do well. For ochem 1 study the book and do the questions in the back. For ochem 2 just do the mechanisms over and over again. For both, get lots of old tests. I made As in both classes, its doable.
The Chem dept just changed the topics and the order in which they're taught for Organic I, so old tests are basically of no help. Hubbard is very organized and was great in office hours. I felt the class moved really fast and it's hard no matter who you take. The test averages are usually in the 50's so don't be alarmed. Do the book problems!!!!
Great Teacher. Extremely helpful. Teaches with a purpose. If you are taking ochem with someone else at uga, you are missing out/making a mistake. Hard subject so if you dont study, of course you arent going to do well.
No reason why you can't get an A in this class if you study every night and do the book problems.
Good teacher, very helpful and understanding, but the material and tests are just VERY difficult. Be prepared to study AT LEAST 3 hours every day for this course if you want to do well. Do every single book problem, go to office hours, etc. Class averages on our tests: 42%, 58%, 54%, 48%. If you want a A/B, you'll have to put in 900% effort.
Great teacher, difficult subject. Get cozy with the book, and the grade will follow.
Overrated. In O. Chem at UGA, you have to teach yourself! Hire a tutor and you'll be ok no matter who you take. Its impossible to get into his office hours... too many people in the class. You'll wait for days.
Hard class but Hubbard makes it doable. He uses the same format for all his tests, so if you can figure the patterns out you can basically guess what kind of problems will be on the next. Study his notes that he posts and do the practice problems and you will be fine.
Hubbard's alright. I think he's probably one of the better ochem professors at UGA. He's pretty helpful but can be a jerk sometimes. His lectures can get quite boring though. The book will always be your best teacher for any ochem professor you take. Hubbard is just good in that his tests are challenging but reasonable (unlike some other teachers).
Hubbard is terrible. I don't know where these other people have been, but having class averages consistently be in the 50s is not okay. He is not consistent and always makes the tests harder than anything you could have possibly seen before. Take this class at another university. DO NOT take it here.
An incredibly knowledgeable teacher in his field! Explains everything very clearly and makes the hard class tolerable! Office hours are very helpful, encouraging, and informative! He is very understanding and is willing to help anyone better learn the material!
Decent teacher but test averages always in the 50's which was not okay. Ended up having to drop the class. But if you have to take Ochem, he's the best option.
Best teacher in the chemistry department. If you want a fair ochem teacher take Hubbard. He moves at a very reasonable pace and never crams information. His tests are tough but not tricky. Wish I took ochem 1 with him since he explains everything well. Keep in mind that if you aren't well prepared for an exam you are going to lose.
Ochem is a hard class. You can do well if you put in the effort. Office hours are very helpful.
OChem is hard but Dr. Hubbard is by far the best teacher. If you attend lecture, do the reading, and do the homework you will get an A or a B. The class is curved so it's really not that bad. Just put in the work and you'll do great.
I love Dr. Hubbard so much! I can't believe I said that but its true. Out of all the professors in the Chemistry department that teaches ochem he is patient with his students and has a calm demeanor! Now ochem is a tough subject, but if you take it with Dr. Hubbard it won't be that bad! Just make sure to stayed prayed up in this class! Good Luck!
Dr. Hubbard is OK. I honestly didn't think he was that AMAZING. His lectures were really confusing sometimes, but I guess that's O- Chem for ya. He has a really gentle voice, which is always nice. He'll call you out if you try to leave early or go to sleep. Also, he's pretty easy on the eyes.
OChem at UGA is a soul-sucking experience. Dr. Hubbard got me through it. I took him after having dropped the class a semester before and he easily explained the topics I had trouble with. The tests are killer and I would recommend looking up old ones but Hubbard is the best teacher for Ochem.
He's a really good teacher and actually cares about his students. I really learned a lot from him and he definitely made me enjoy OChem!
Dr. Hubbard is the best ochem professor I've had. His lectures are always clear with a touch of dry humor and he's always available for questions and help. His tests are slightly harder but very reasonable and follows exactly what he goes over in class. He also puts around 10 bonus points on each test.
Dr. Hubbard is the best option for OChem at UGA... but it will still be one of the most difficult classes you take. Everyone always says OCHEM is the toughest class ever, but with Hubbard it will be manageable. Makes lecture enjoyable because he interacts with the class jokingly sometimes. Overall, I would highly recommend
Ochem is always going to be extremely difficult, but he definitely makes it manageable. He's very clear in lecture and provides many study sessions in which he stays for as long as needed to answer any questions. He tries to make the material more interesting and easier to understand, but just know that the class is still very difficult.
Dr. Hubbard is a great lecturer, which is super important for Ochem. He explains things clearly.
Ochem is one of those subjects that is difficult. It all depends on what professor you get, it's sad but true. If I had any other professor other than Dr. Hubbard, I would have already withdrawn without a fighting chance of passing. It's hard folks- buy note cards & colored pens and start learning material early, READ THE BOOK AND DO PROBLEMS!!!
Very difficult material, but definitely the best ochem professor. Try to get him!
Great at explaining!
This class is super hard, no matter what prof you get. However try to get Dr. Hubbard for Ochem, but he's not "amazing" just the better prof for ochem. Get Science Guyz and do the book problems. He doesn't do many clickers at all until the last few classes. His lectures are fast but he has a nice voice and is pretty cute so there is a plus side?
Dr. Hubbard is a great lecturer and good at explaining things during class. There are times where he has been quite blunt during his office hours though.
Dr. Hubbard is fantastic. This class was the hardest thing I have worked for in my entire life, but he makes it enjoyable and rewarding. His tests are, for the most part, very fair. He does not sugarcoat anything. You have to study every night to succeed. Glad I had him! Definitely made me a better student.
If you don't read the textbook before you class you will be very lost. He goes through material quickly and his notes are very messy and disorganized so when you look back at them you can hardly understand them. If you don't keep up with the readings you'll have to teach yourself. He does very few clicker questions at the end of the semester.
Just get over yourself and read the textbook. No one likes ochem but the sooner you put in the effort and realize that's all it takes the better. Def take Hubbard cause he knows what he's doing
Dr. Hubbard was my saving grace for this course. I dropped this course the first time I took it and when I took it with him I got an A. He explains everything clearly and makes sure his students know whats going on. You HAVE to read and do practice problem or you won't do well. Also don't have a phone in class or you will get called out for it.
I came into this class dreading it, but it turned out to be much easier than I had expected. Reading before class will help understand lectures, and using Science Guyz to prepare for tests really helped. He explains the concepts very well and it's evident that he knows what he's talking about. Take him if you can!
Everyone says he lectures clearly, but I just don't see it. He often launches into a topic without saying what it is, which is especially confusing when learning reactions. The exams are much harder than Jackson's, and he will stop class to yell at students for having a phone on their desk. He starts the clicker questions 1 minute before class ends
Professor Hubbard does not check his emails often or something because he doesnt email back at all.
Dr. Hubbard is a nice guy, but after taking this class in the summer with a lot of other students, it's hard to get really any one on one time with him even in office hours. He also goes through material pretty quickly. If you can, prep beforehand the class starts and read ahead before lectures (something I didn't do).
Dr. Hubbard is a great guy and very knowledgable in respect to the information in ochem II. This course is very challenging but as long as you go to class, pay attention, do the assigned practice problems, and study often (instead of cramming last second), then you will do well.
Ochem is never fun. The tests at UGA are much more difficult than at many other schools, so that's just something you have to deal with. I don't think going to class helps much because he often moves on before I can finish writing. Anytime i've gone to office hours he treats me like i'm a little kid/stupid so i choose not to go anymore.
hes the best option for orgo profs at UGA so Ive taken him for ochem 1 and 2. I end up having to teach myself all the material because its a lot during one class period and is obviously difficult. He makes the exams, so i do recommend him, however, the tests are hard and the class is boring. He doesnt treat students with respect imo.
Ochem sucks, there is no way around that. I was never a huge Hubbard fan just because of my experience with him in office hours (tends to be kind of rude). However, I was a point away from earning a B, and although he said he doesn't bump your grade at the end of the semester, I asked and he did give me the B, so that was nice of him.
Take him. O chem isn't great no matter who you take but he makes the tests. I would recommend getting Science Guyz to help guide you along with the chapters. If I do science guyz before a chapter, then class makes sense. If I don't, I have no idea what's going on. It's not as impossible as everyone makes it out to be. Just study to pass the tests.
OChem is hard as it is, but Hubbard is the best professor for this class at UGA. his lectures are well organized and you do not need to read to understand what is going on in class. His tests are straightforward but you have to put in the work to do well. Would take him again!
Dr. Hubbard is an amazing professor. Ochem is going to be a tough class no matter what but he explains the material very well in class. He is also very approachable if you need to ask a question for clarification. Took it in the summer and highly recommend.
He was a pretty good lecturer but he didnt allow computers to be open in class and this was a bit irritating. He rarely does clicker questions so you dont need to come to class everyday. Get old tests and it makes getting an A wayyyy easier.
Great class, make sure you stay up on the material and start marking flash cards right away! Sit in the front and ask questions, it'll help you learn the material better. No homework but you must do practice problems and study every night after class. Good luck!
It's still Ochem, but he makes it a LOT more bearable. Hubbard is one of the best professors I've ever had at UGA. This class is depended upon 4 tests and random clicker questions. You can also drop your lowest test grade. The final is tough, but if your keep up it shouldn't cause you any trouble. TAKE HIM!!!
I took OCHEM 1 at GGC, which Hubbard thinks I'm gonna fail his class bc he thinks GGC sucks. He even refuses to help me when I need help. He even recommends me to drop this class at the beginning of the semester. Guess what, I got all A s on my exams, and get a solid A in this class. Just practice reactions, you ll be fine.
O chem lab is a lot of work for being 1 credit hour. Good TAs help. Make sure you understand how to do ChemDraw!
The best ochem prof no cap. literally this is my second time taking it and my grades have doubled! love him.
he is the best ochem professor, thats all.
He's very nice during office hours and acts like he gives a cap, but underneath all that he's definitely a closeted masochist. I studied for the final and got A's on all the other tests, but I still feel like I barely hit the 50 mark. even during a pandemic putting this much pressure on students is just cruel and unnecessary.
Professor Hubbard is an amazing person. He is a very easy teacher who is very clear in what he expects from his students. Classroom environment is always very focused in discussion and you definitely do not wanna miss class. He does not assign too much work either but you definitely will need to read the textbook. Definitely take him if you can!!!
If you ever want a straight answer, do not ask Hubbard. He is incapable of answering a question without a 5 minute monologue, at the end of which you still will not have an answer.
Dr. Hubbard is not a very understanding person. He made the lab final unnecessarily difficult. That was the only thing that kept me and many others from getting an A.
Richard Hubbard has made this course extremely difficult by putting materials that was not covered in a short period of class on the exams. He always went over time and judge participation grades based on few clickers questions. I, personally, had a very difficult time to stay in connection with the class and answer the questions.
OChem 2 is not as hard as people say. The exams are based on textbook material. However, as a person, Dr. Hubbard is very disrespectful with his students. He goes over the time limit during class and would assign turning point questions after class is technically over. He also does not respond to emails, which is troubling during a pandemic.
Ochem is a hard class and regardless of the professor you have to work for an A. I never opened the textbook for ochem 2. I memorized Hubbard's slides and did the practice test assignments. People complain about Hubbard but in my opinion He gave all of the necessary information to make an A if you put enough work into it.
Lab final is ridiculously hard, especially during a pandemic when students were only allowed to attend half of the labs at most. Also the new format of it being online offers no chance for partial credit and they really don't care that students are at a disadvantage bc of covid. Find old lab finals if you want any chance of passing.
If youre like me and want good communication, dont take him. I think Ive emailed him 6 times this semester, he responded to one of them (one whole sentence). He treats students like we are bothering him to be in his class, as if his class is his weekly performance, not a lecture for paying students. o chem is tough no matter who you take at UGA
Ochem 2 is a hard class, but Hubbard is a solid choice. He gives practice assignments before every test that are extremely helpful in preparation for each test. He mainly goes over notes during class, which I did not find the most helpful, but he is more than willing to answer questions and help.
Science guyz was my real teacher. Hubbard skimmed the surface, but it's on you to teach yourself. He didn't answer even 1 email all semester, was disrespectful to students, and habitually took participation questions after class had ended. He served more as a class organizer than a teacher. Ochem 2 is hard regardless, but he didn't make it easier.
If youre taking Ochem 2, choose Dr. Hubbard. He explains the material very well in class. Yes, the majority of the studying and comprehension will be on you outside the classroom.
Hubbard is a nice guy. Organic Chem is a hard class, there's really no way around it, just do the best you can and get out asap. Hubbard is super caring, has copious amounts of office hours that you can sit in on and listen. He very much lays out what needs to be done. There's extra credit, it WILL help. Tests get easier after withdraw deadline FYI
Chem 2211 is VERY hard, but if you have to take the class, Hubbard is the way to go. He cares a lot about his students and will answer any questions you have. Just be prepared to study.
I thought lab was difficult. The final is stupid hard. Need to know lab manual by heart to make a good grade. My TA was also a tough grader and nitpicky on labs making the class extra difficult.
Definitely a good person, but his lectures are so un-engaging. My chem2211 class focused far more on practice questions in class. I could count the number of practice questions he did on my two hands. For me, this teaching style does not work. Be prepared to do a lot of practice outside; requires a lot of self discipline, tests are very detailed.
Compared to ochem 1, there were practically no practice problems in class. This left you needing to assess your abilities on your own time. Read the textbook, do the practice problems, and get an outside tutoring service. Tests were difficult, but offered a lot of partial credit.
hubbard teaches like he's just going through the motions. lectures aren't engaging and don't prepare you for the exams. the textbook is important. prepare for exams well ahead of time and use jackson's yt video keys.
Dr. Hubbard is a great teacher. He is very kind, funny, and he cares about his students. Ochem is difficult, no matter the teacher. Dr. Hubbard allowed me to enjoy Ochem. His tests are difficult, but fair. Buy Science Guyz, and read the textbook. Do practice problems constantly. The class is 90% tests; however, all Ochem classes at UGA are.
Given ochem is hard, but he doesn't connect dots when he teaches. He is only helpful if you attend office hours. Gokal was the only one who posted helpful notes and practice problems. Tips for success: buy science guyz or read the chapter ahead of the lecture and practice textbook problems after. 4 exams and a final are given, lowest exam dropped.
dr hubbard is okay... gokal is the best but she's leaving. only saving grace is scienceguyz... if u don't buy it, you'll fail lol. DO THE TEXTBOOK QUESTIONS and FIND OLD EXAMS. he takes questions straight from old exams bc hes so busy with the lab. he is funny and very smart but isn't the best teacher.. the class is hard no matter what but SG saves
Dr. Hubbard was very reliable for O Chem Lab. My TA was super behind on giving back our experiment grades that I emailed him and he got it all sorted out and was lenient on us because of that which shows he is very understanding. While he does have his flaws, he at least keeps his students at 1st priority and listens to any issues we have.
Hubbard is super nice, but lectures are boring and disorganized. he and gokal were uncoordinated and we were left not knowing where material ended 2 days exams. textbook is helpful for the beginning, but not rly for lectures in the final units. your grade is pretty much just the exams and final other than like 1% extra credit and 4% attendance.
1)Read the syllabus. 2)Do the suggested textbook questions from the syllabus and get REALLY familiar with them. 3)Read the textbook or use Science Guys to fill any knowledge gaps. I guarantee you can be a B or higher if you follow these steps and self-study. I got an A+ myself. All OCHEM professors are borderline useless and are nothing but NPCs..
Dr.Hubbard is a rly nice person and obviously knows his stuff. Lectures weren't helpful for me personally. I learned more on my own. This class takes self-discipline, you have to read and do problems on your own time. I got an ok grade w/o science guyz, so its possible to do well w/o it. Definitely could've done better if i always did textbook q's
Not much homework except textbook problems. Lectures are full of content so be ready to take a lot of notes. Exams are during nighttime blocks (8-9:30). Would highly recommend scienceguyz for this course
Comes across as overbearing and condescending. Monotone voice and robotic personality make the lectures more boring than they have to be. I'm not really sure how he has 4 stars here. He does an ok job of presenting the content in an organized way though, and no mandatory homework.
Unless you have to, do NOT take this class over the summer (doable but an insane workload every week). Dr. Hubbard is not a very good teacher but is, unfortunately, the best option for OChem. He's very nice and willing to help, but he's not good at explaining content to someone learning it for the first time. Buy the ScienceGuyz mock exams (~$15).
Dr. Hubbard is the best OCHEM professor. He is extremely knowledgeable about chemistry! He is always very open to answering any questions and he is a very genuine person. Of course, OCHEM is very hard no matter the professor and you will have to spend several hours learning the material on your own time, but Dr. Hubbard is definitely the way to go!
Do not take Hubbard for ochem 1. I went to class every single day and did not retain one bit of information he taught me. If you have him I 100% recommend science guyz, I got an A in the class just because of that. He barely did any problems in class and was very condescending when people asked questions.
Was a very nice person, but I think that his lecturing is just boring and hard to listen to. He follows the textbook exactly during his lectures and on the test, even pulling some questions straight from the EOC. I think that his class is very doable but you have to be willing to put in a lot of time outside of class.
Hubbard's lectures are just an unorganized summary of the textbook. You're better off not going to class and just reading the textbook, but you have to go because he takes attendance and asks attendance questions every day. The only reason I did well was because I saved up for Science Guyz.
Goes very fast but so do all o chem professors, def a nice guy. We had to attend 80% of classes for participation points.
Ochem will be hard no matter who you take it with, but in my opinion, Hubbard doesn't make it any easier at all. He is a really nice and understanding person, but his lectures are honestly terrible, and he doesn't post the notes until days later. When Gokal taught our class for a couple of days, I learned so much more.
he answers a lot of his own questions himself in class. he'll be like "what is the hybridization of X? ...we'd say C right?" while a lot of the class doesn't know. also always only does clicker questions (which r for accuracy) in the very last unit. at least he's hot.
Dr. Hubbard is a great professor. There are 4 tests (1 gets dropped) and a final. I got 1 point of extra credit towards my final grade for completing the course evaluation. Advice: I outlined the chapter during the week. One week before the test, I would do the end of chapter problems to study for the test. It it a hard class but doable.
Class is brutal, but that's just ochem at uga, the whole thing is graded by 4 exams, one of which gets dropped. You'll need sciguyz to pass or get anything resembling a good grade. As long as you stay religious with the sciguyz prep and study in advance, exams are doable. Hubbard's lectures are not enough to pass the class.
At first, things were flowing well with the OCHEM I lab. The lab videos are very helpful! At the end of the semester, things got a bit rocky. The lab final took 3 weeks to be released. I emailed him multiple times with no response. Not very accommodating.
This class was extremely time consuming and constantly requires you to work. He does a good job at introducing topics, but doesn't go too into detail. Not a lot of practice problems in class. Very few participation questions, but gives little time to answer them. Scienceguyz and textbook questions is the only way I was able to pass.
If you chose to take Ochem 1 at UGA I highly recommend Dr.Hubbard. He does practice problems that help, answers any questions you have, and doesn't bother, knowing that I had to ask so many. Ochem is already a hard course to take, and it requires ALOT of studying so take him for sure!
Hubbard is the best ochem professor and uses lots of examples in class. I took it in the summer and we only had the 4 exam grades and attendance so it was very difficult. He curved in the very end and never told us(caused many breakdowns b4 finals) but overall is a great guy. I read the entire textbook and paid close attention in class though.
This class is hard. There is no way around that, but Hubbard does a good job of explaining the material. His tests can be challenging, but if you do practice problems, you will be good. Try to find the commonality in the reactions. He is no doubt the best choice of the ochem professors. Only complain is that he can be absent from office hours.
Hubbard is great at laying out notes in a clear manner but I relied heavily on ScienceGuyz for a better explanation. It's a hard class and is more heavily focused on mechanisms than Ochem 1. Be prepared to dedicate a substantial amount of time to learning the material if you want to do well.
dr. hubbard is a sweet man and i recommend getting to know him. with that being said, ochem 2 is VERY hard. save money on science guyz by taking notes on the textbook and doing all the problems. lots of extra credit. extremely difficult tests but that isnt his fault.. it's just a hard subject. best choice for orgo 2 imo just because he is so nice.
He's a nice man, but this class SUCKS. It is WAY harder than ochem1. He doesn't respond to any emails, he sometimes will ghost you at office hours, and the exams will be some of the hardest you will have to take in undergrad. If you can't take this class at UNG, mentally prepare yourself to dedicate around 15-20 hours a week to this class minimum.
Hubbard was a great choice for ochem 1! He was caring and his tests are written, but offer a lot of partial credit and bonus questions. He gives a lot of practice problems in class, but I also got science guys to get more explanation/ tutoring!
Professor Hubbard as a person, is so unbelievably kind. Though as most of us know, the UGA chem department is awful in general. I got SG, and learned the entire course from them. His tests are mostly free response, with little to no MC. In my opinion, having to draw out everything is worse than taking all MC tests, but to each their own.
While ochem is a hard class itself, Dr. Hubbard was an amazing prof and the best in the chem department! I had horribles experiences with both gen chems but his method of teaching made ochem very approachable. I personally like the free response type questions more due to partial credit. He is very caring and such a nice guy. TAKE HIM!!
He is literally the sweetest guy ever, sometimes the lectures got a little overwhelming but science guys is your best bet. His tests are fair, but mostly free response. I think I would prefer to have MC rather than have to draw everything. We started clickers literally in the last few weeks of class though...
he runs ochem lab so he's really the only choice but lord it's rough haha. your experience is mostly dependent on your ta. USE THE PRE LAB VIDEOS! the nature of the class is difficult but my major complaint is that the pre and post labs take FOREVER. at least 5-10 hours weekly. the final is super hard and the review material he gives doesn't help.
Dr. Hubbard was one of my favorite professors I have ever had. Attendance was mandatory, but I did not care because I always found the material highly interesting. He makes OCHEM easy!!
Dr. Hubbard is very nice and knowledgeable, but the way this class is graded is ridiculous. It is only 4 tests and a final with maybe one or two homework assignments. His tests are fair but content-heavy, so get ready to study. His notes are also slightly disorganized and not posted until after the lecture, so make sure you take good notes.
95% graded by exams + final. 4 exams with 1 drop. Exams are mostly free response but I think that was the best way to test OChem, the other classes with MC did not do well. The final was ROUGH, and NOT the ACS. Clickers sucked but he gave me full credit despite missing half of them. Overall probably your best choice. GET SCIENCE GUYZ.
Took him in the summer (only option), and was very impressed! Ochem is obviously tough, but he did his best to make sure we understood what was going on. Over summer, there are only 3 tests and a final WITH NO DROP! BE CAUTIOUS. Honestly though, just get science guyz. It's worth it.
He's a really nice guy but he is VERY lazy. He does not do recitations so your grade is based on the exams. He also did like 5 in class problems throughout the semester and only did them when there was one minute left in class so there was no point. He does not answer emails but sometimes he can be accommodating. Get ready to watch him draw for 1hr
Ochem with Professor Hubbard is tough, but manageable if you stay on top of the course material. The tests are content-heavy but fair. Utilize resources like Unstuck ai, the textbook, and practice problems to succeed.
OChem is the hardest class I have ever taken. Dr Hubbard specifically is no help at all. I suddenly got really sick (nauseous) one day before lab, so I emailed him. I never heard back from him (this was weeks ago and I still haven't received an email back). Hes also never in his office. If you have to miss lab AT ALL you are basically screwed.
He is not accessible outside of class and makes his exams so hard. In class participation occurs rarely and randomly so if you end up missing the one or two days he does a squarecap you're cooked for in class participation. I'm taking Llewelyn now for ochem 2 and my experience is so much better
Dr. Hubbard's teaching style did not help me, he just drew mechanisms on the board and didn't explain them. I emailed him several times and NEVER got a response. He also didn't start taking attendance until right before thanksgiving break so we're stressed about the grades for that, he's a nice person but not a good professor, take Llewelyn.
I've never spoken to such a disrespectful, weird professor at UGA. He has one office hour a week and can't even do his job. Doesn't respond to emails.
He is known for not replying to emails; it's nothing personal. He's a great man who likes to crack jokes and genuinely cares for his students. Everyone takes the same tests, and every professor has some cons. He's also department head, so I think he's a great person to have in your corner. I loved him for both ochem 1 and 2.
Lectures do not help at all. He goes over mechanisms but not why it works a certain way. Online notes are just the mechanisms that he writes. Just buy scienceguyz and work on that in class. Show up to class in the last 1/4 of the semester because that is when he starts doing squarecap questions.
He knows his stuff but does not respond to emails and will often cancel office hours. His lecture notes are unorganized and the speed at which he lectures is too fast to keep up. He never reviews old material, so if you're confused on a concept, it will only get more difficult. Probably the best option out of the ochem 2 professors, unfortunately.
Horrible. Attendance optional until after the 3rd test though so I'd take him again anyway.
This class is annoying enough to take as is, but at the very least it used to have free lab instructions and data sheet. Dr. Hubbard was short on cash and made it must purchase now, on something that used to be free for years and had no reason to require purchase.
As soon as I saw his lectures were him scrolling through microsoft one note i knew it was over.
(Chem Lab), Dr Hubbard is one of the most unreachable professors in the University. I emailed him months in advance regarding a situation, to no response. In addition, I emailed his boss and she told him to email me back, to which he still has not done. I have visited him in person as well. He never checks his email, and is unreachable.
He was solid and everyone liked him. ochem is hard but if you put in effort and pay attention in class its not bad. do work throughout the semester, not just before tests. I sucked at gen chem but got an a on every test in ochem.
Okay I actually really liked him. I mostly used science guys to study for exams but he was pretty chill in class and I always did well on exams. Good choice for Organic Chemistry! Will be taking again for ochem 2.
unironically the worst professor I have ever had. Doesn't post the notes until 2 days before an exam. For the first test, two days before the exam he admitted he taught a concept completely wrong and had to reteach us. The 4th exam, he didn't post the recitation until 24hrs before the exam. The notes are horrible, they just drawings w/ no info.
Hubbard is entirely unreachable. I had a medical emergency that left me unable to properly take an exam. SCO emailed him, I emailed him (with another professor copied, who responded and apologized for his inability to help with the lab), I called him (left a voicemail), and had a written note delivered to his office. No response.
The amount of work you have to do for a one credit ochem lab is insane. Additionally, they now make you pay for the lab manual when previously they posted everything on elc.
Dr. Hubbard was okay, I mostly learned content through scienceguyz. Hate that he does not answer emails. If I had to take again, I'd probably choose a different professor who was more engaging. Lectures were very hard to pay attention to.
For ochem, he was fine. Not a good lecturer, notes are hard to read, doesn't explain things well. However, he is a nice guy and for the chem department, there is probably worse, I just have to teach myself
Dr. Hubbard is a great professor for ochem. The class is very hard and the tests are standardized, but he is great at explaining difficult concepts and preparing you for the exams.
Dr Hubbard does a good job at lecturing in class, he explains all of the concepts very well. However the notes are a mess, they're not something you will be able to refer to after class. definitely invest in science guyz
Hubbard as a professor is great. He does plenty of great examples that are exam style. You can't expect to learn everything 100% in class for OCHEM. I highly recommend reading the textbook chapters before and learning a bit outside. Science Guys is great, but isn't needed. Put in the effort and you'll be fine! The class truly isn't that hard!
I enjoyed & learned from his lectures but I know many people didn't. He's a little disorganized & jumps around a lot, but he gives some cool extra information/fun facts & is occasionally pretty funny. His posted notes don't teach much, you have to attend lectures, listen to him, & write down most of what he says. We didn't do SquareCap til April
The class is just kinda hard, but Hubbard did a good job of explaining concepts. His notes are mostly just examples, so you have to lock in during class to understand. If you need anything from him you have to go and ask at the end of class, he will never respond to your email. I didn't have scienceguyz and it was fine. good luck soldiers
He is a great professor. He explains concepts well and is well spoken and knowledgeable. He is accommodating and wants you to succeed. Took him over the summer. Would recommend! I used Science Guyz as well.
Dr. Hubbard is a good professor, this class is just designed to be extremely difficult. He is super nice and helpful, if you are able to find him outside class... He doesn't take attendance until the last week or so which hurts your grade really bad if you miss class. His lectures are good though!
He is so slow, doesn't understand students, most definitely on tenure or at least acts like it because he is honestly so so lost no matter what. Uploaded prelabs weeks after we completed the lab, didn't teach TAs, removed teaching slides. Worst man of all time
Honestly, the professor you have in the chem department really doesn't matter but Dr. Hubbard is a very caring instructor and genuinely wants students to do well, which cant be said for all of the chem profs. I use ScienceGuyz to get through the class but he is the most approachable of the instructors IMO (if you can find him lol).
Wow, the OChem Lab Department is in SHAMBLES. Tell me why we can't use AI but AI is used to grade our assignments insufficiently. AI SHOULDNT GRADE, THATS YOUR JOBS!! And the fact that due dates are extended AFTER the original due date is insanity. Also no lab manual and the pdfs are outdated, listing chemicals we never even touched this semester.
I'm sure hes a great person, but never let this man direct another lab again. The format is awful, trading simple lab notebooks for gradescope quizzes, that seem to not have a rubric that waa taught. The final lab exam material was poorly taught and was impossible to score highly without outside (paid) tutoring.
Lab is a joke. Most TA's are useless. It's now November and only one pre-lab has been graded. Pre/post-labs are posted days or weeks after experiments are completed. Videos/lab manuals/lectures never match up. Ochem lab department needs some serious, serious reform.
Dr. Hubbard is a great prof and is accessible outside of class. He is monotonous in his teaching style but I found it effective. It is hard to rate a teacher when the class covers difficult content. Otherwise, he is a great guy, does lots of examples, and gives plenty of practice. Attendance isn't mandatory but, there are clicker questions.
Worst lab I have ever taken. The post and pre labs were never posted on time and the deadline would be extended AFTER the deadline had passed. Also, nothing has been graded and the items that have been graded have been graded hard. Never let him direct a lab again, he is AWFUL. I would rather have Daphne Norton again and thats saying something.
Dr. Hubbard has 0 idea how to organize anything, facilitate anything, etc. Walked into lab one day and didn't have a procedure given to us until an hour into the lab. Fire him immediately, he is a leech off the department. Check his resume because there is no way he didn't lie about his credentials.
Dr. Hubbard is the only lab coordinator for non-honors/majors/advanced organic chemistry. He is a nice guy but he is completely inaccessible over email. You have to go to his office during his office hours. Just want to let future students know in case they run into any problems during the semester.
Grades are due in a week but I have 3 labs graded... idk his personal life so I don't wanna judge too much. Doesn't respond to emails at all and don't get me started on when assignments were posted...
Frustratingly inaccessible, never responded to emails. Posted pre labs days to a week AFTER the lab, post labs even later. Had three grades posted up until a few days before the end of finals, despite having 2 assignments due per week, and all the grades are messed up, had to submit over 10 regrade requests.
The course was extremely poorly run: labs didn't match recent lectures, worksheet expectations were vague, and assignments were posted weeks late. Grading was painfully slow. Dr. Hubbard was nearly unreachable and had minimal office hours. The lab final was much harder than anything covered in class. He's the only option, so good luck.🫡
Didn't get any type of response or anything from him EVER. Assignments posted late every week. Even after grades are due, I don't have all my grades but I have a B in the class?? Idk his personal life but he needs a direct assistant or a replacement
