Rick,is the best stats prof you could have. Willing to help students exceed in his class. He will help you succeed if your willing to. plus he makes stats funny and he is cute to. Take stats with him if you get the chance. Attend class, go to office hours and review sessions. One awesome prof.
Very normal! not a crazy, mean, senile teacher like most of the other stats professors. Easy to relate to.
He is SO GOOD!! If you are worried about taking stats take it with Rick because he is extremely helpful, his lecture notes are to the point, and he will help you if you have questions. You can have a cheat sheet for the tests. He is really reasonable and funny! Take him for stats and no other teacher!!
Probably the best professor at IU - I wish he taught more useful classes. Explains everything clear, straightforward exams. Does everything to make sure everyone understands the material. Just show up and pay attention and you're set. Weekly homework, only a couple questions. No stupid projects like other stats professors.
If you can take one of Rick's classes, do! He found the perfect balance between informative, interesting, and humorous!
He keeps class interesting and informative. Does all that he can to help you understand something. Humorous, informative, and overall great professor! Just pay attention and you're golden!
I absolutely loved this class. He made is so interesting and made we want to attend class. He did not take attendance and his class was recorded everyday, however I found myself in class every single day. He was a cool guy and an outstanding teacher!
Awesome teacher, a lot of fun, always making jokes to lighten the mood, very good teacher, knows what he's talking about and has fun teaching (which makes class more interesting)
Rick is great, he understands that it is an intro level class and does everything he can to help the students (anonymous feedback, recording lectures etc). He truly cares about his students and effectively lecture! Tests are straight forward and simple.
Rick is the best instructor I have had at IU. I looked forward to going to his class because he is funny and made the class interesting. I recommend Rick, if you are unsure about taking his class, DO! You won't regret it and you'll learn a lot.
Rick is a great prof. He's very friendly and approachable. His lectures are interesting, funny, and relevant to the tests. I really enjoyed going to class, even though it's not mandatory. The class isn't too tough either. It's very straight forward and only tests count toward your final grade.
Probably the best instructor here at IU. I was very fortunate and had him for 2 classes this semester (COLL-C 105 and PSY-P 102). He's very intelligent and great to talk to. His tests are very fair and he is welcome to any and all feedback. Great guy and I look forward to having two more classes with him next semester!
Great professor. Not the easiest psychology class, especially for an intro to psych. Grade is based on three exams and a cumulative final.
Nice guy, cracks some jokes during class that ensured me staying awake at 9AM. The class was fairly easy. The readings were scattered and at times unnecessary, and the material was explained very well in class. It had the feel of an introductory class for a long time until I began studying for the final and realized how much I'd actually learned!
Not the easiest class, but Rick is a good guy.
Great guy. His lectures were informative and very fun, didn't want to skip class. Tests were about 85% lecture and 15% book, lecture complimented the book. Tests seemed very fair to me, but I actually studied. He's the reason I've decided to be a psychology major.
Rick is an awesome guy. Vain but awesome :) Strict in some respects but very receptive to students' concerns and needs. One of the best IU professors. There is only one way to take statistics at IU...with Rick.
This is a pass/fail class, and there's not a lot of work. You have to use a clicker. You have to go to like ten classes and do like seven of the assignments posted. Easy easy easy.
Rick is very helpful and knows what he's talking about. I rarely attended the lectures, but when I did I took good notes. Going to the labs on Friday isn't required exactly but his assistant does help you with the pleos and Starlogo labs. Rick also helps during his office hrs. There is a midterm and a final exam
For a required course he was very clear and listened to students concerns.
Easiest class I have ever taken at IU. Rick is very engaging and makes a not so interesting class very intereting.
Very clear teaching style. Very straightforward and entertaining. However, he has an irrational affinity for cats.
He was the BEST professor I have had at IU. He is INCREDIBLY knowledgeable, helpful and enthusiastic about teaching cognitive psychology (any course for that matter). No textbook; bring your knowledge hungry self and be blown away! I would most definitely recommend him to everyone! Not to mention, he reminds you of Harry Potter on a daily basis!
Rick is hands down the best professor at IU. He is an awesome individual and he makes you WANT to go to class every morning, even if it is a 9AM. Tests are very fair and they reflect what was taught. He explains the material very well and makes sure that all his students have a solid grasp and if not, he welcomes questions.
Best professor I will ever have at IU, 100%. Extremely knowledgeable about his field and wants students to be successful. Tests/exams are straight-forward with no tricks; could be a stand-up comedian if he didn't teach. If you can take a psych course with Rick Hullinger, you should do it.
Rick has a wide knowledge base and is very competent! If he can't answer your question he goes out and finds the answer. Lectures were very entertaining and informative, tests are cake if you go to class or watch the lectures on echo. Witty, engaging, and unique; highly recommended!
Excellent instructor. Very helpful and passionate about his field
Great guy, teaches incredibly effectively and utilizes tech like powerpoint and records lectures that he uploads for online access, very helpful, funny, completely open to criticism and change of class to better suit students, best professor at IU
Funny and Personable
AWESOME! Keeps things interesting and tries to keep everyone engaged. I tell all psych majors to get him for Cognitive so that they don't want to die every time they go to class. Class notes are almost always online. Seriously just a fun, down-to-earth, caring guy who happens to be an amazing professor. If you have the chance, get in his classes!
Very lucid teaching styles. Made the students interested in psychology. He is one of the sole reasons I am a psych major. Best teacher at IU.
Rick is very good at what he does. He lets you check your homework at office hours.. so there's never a reason you shouldn't get 100% on all HW assignments. He is very good at explaining things and he definitely made stats as interesting as he possibly could. I look forward to taking more of his courses.
He is an awesome professor. He really loves what he is teaching. Makes the info really easy to learn.
Really awesome professor! He answers any questions during office hours and will personally walk you through homework problems or any other question you have.
While his classes are super easy, you will get nothing from them. He has an average mind. Rick is more interested in Pop-Culture than Science. What's more, he is unbelievably anal regarding test responses. If his desired response is not written word-for-word, it will be marked incorrect; even if you have demonstrated a firm grasp of the concept.
He is excellent at explaining statistics in a way that is interesting and easy to understand. He really cares about how students are learning in the course and has anonymous feedback and polls to get students input about the class. Exams are not too bad, and he is understanding when a test was too long or the average was a little low.
Probably one of the best professors I've ever had. Extremely funny and helpful. Very understanding when any kind of issue arises. Tests are challenging but fair. His office hours are very helpful, so use them if you're struggling! He lets you check your homework answers with him.
Awesome Professor! Really enjoys the material he is teaching and always finds a way to make it interesting. Very funny and engaging. Take a class with him if you can :)
Best professor I've ever had, period. Always manages to make class super interesting, and his lectures are almost like stand-up comedy routines. He even taught us how to survive in a Saw-esque death trap. You go, Rick. You may have just saved our lives.
Such a great professor. I can't wait to have him for another class, I would recommend him to anyone who asks. He is strict with his guidelines and due dates for this class, but if you get them done then it is super easy. he makes a routine class seem very interesting
I love his lectures, his tests aren't super tough. He's super funny and keeps class very interesting. I would defiantly recommend any class he teaches!
He can be kind of rude sometimes but the class was extremely easy and clear cut.
Great guy and even better teacher. Explains everything thoroughly. I wasn't even supposed to take his class, signed up on accident and he made me want to stay! Very funny guy and makes class interesting. Definitely recommend him!
by far the best professorteacher I have ever had, period. He made intro to psychology way more interesting than I could have ever imagined, and my friends in other P101 classes find it hard to believe that I could actually look forward to going to my introduction to psychology class. Always gives information in a funny yet clear way. 1010 overall
Rick is awesome! It's no secret that stats can be a pretty boring topic, but he found a way to make class super enjoyable. He made the entire class laugh during every single lecture. He is super helpful and open to questions, both during lecture and office hours. Online textbook is necessary for homework assignments.
Rick is one of the best professors I have had! He explains everything very clearly and his lectures are easy to follow. He can also be quite entertaining which definitely helps in a class like statistics. Take a course with him if you can!
Rick is very enthusiastic about psychology and clearly has a lot of teaching experiences. Lectures are funny and to the point. You have to take online prelecture quizzes, but don't waste time reading the textbook. It's insanely long and only constitutes 10-15% of the test material. Go to lecture instead. Uses anonymous feedback all semester.
The best thing about Rick is that he really wants you to understand the material. If you take stats in the math department, your assignments will be much different than Rick's. He often asks you to explain a process or calculation like you were talking to a child or your grandmother, to really ensure you understand why you're doing what you do.
The class is recorded and put online. I only went to the first 3 lectures, and then only showed up for the test. He often goes off topic and I rather skip through that part online. Also he is somewhat condescending towards his students and tends to talk about himself multiple times per lecture. You can pass the class by not going to any lectures.
He was friendly, open, helpful, and intelligent. Possibly one of the best professors I've had yet.
Hilarious and super fun to look at. Keeps his lectures interesting, but I found the tests to be pretty difficult.
I took his Brains and Minds, Robots and Machines course to fulfill a science credit and it was one of the most enjoyable classes I've ever been in. I never missed class because the lectures were incredibly fascinating. The labs could be hard at times, but if you worked hard at them and got help then you would be fine. I can't recommend it enough.
He's hilarious, lectures were fun (how he managed to make stats fun is still a mystery) I hate mathnot my best subject but he is so helpful, knows how to explain things clearly. Go to office hours--seriously, he'll check your answers. I wish he taught more things because he was the bestfavorite professor of my college career.
Rick is totally awesome! Hands-down the best teacher I've ever had. I took psych 101 with him in Fall 2014 and I absolutely loved it--I was actually super sad when I had to miss any lectures. His tests & assignments are very straight-forward and he is happy to explain any material if you ask. Send him cat videos through anon feedback.
One of the best professors I've had throughout my three years at IU so far, right next to Irene. If you take P335 with another professor, expect to hate the content and possibly not even do well in the class. He records his lectures, and attendance is not mandatory, but attend class if you want the quizzes and final to be a breeze. You'll love him!
Minds and Machines was a great class with Rick! Hardest part was lab section and trying to learn basic coding. He also had anonymous feedback so anytime you were unhappy with something you could send it to him anonymously and then he would read it in class and everyone got a chance to weigh in.
P211 can be dreaded by some, but this class was actually really enjoyable and Rick is a very approachable and funny teacher. Have him again this semester for Stats and really excited! Take this class with him if you can!
I took P211 with him, and although I pretty much already knew all the material he covered, I was still intrigued to pay attention to his lectures. Super nice guy, would take a different class with him in a heartbeat.
By far best teacher I've had at IU so far. What a nice guy
I hate math with a burning passion, but I had to take statistics through the psych department. I went in with a less than excited attitude but Rick definitely helped change that! The classes were actually interesting and Rick is hilarious. I went to office hours weekly and got A's on my homework.
Rick is awesome! Loved attending his lectures. So clear and organized. Can miss 3 lectures (they are only once a week) and still get full points for participation for final grade.
I thought he was great! I love the way he explains things so that I can really understand. Professor Hullinger is very clear and patient. If you pay attention and ask questions, you'll be fine. We had no text book.
Richard is a very well-liked professor :D
Rick is one of my favorite professors. I had him for both P211 and K300 and I passed both classes with an A (easily). He makes the material super easy to understand and really encourages questions and comments. He is also hilarious!! Even though attendance isn't necessary, I go because he honestly just brightens up my day.
Rick is the best prof I have had in college so far. He always makes sure students understand the content before moving on, but has no problem going back to discuss it. The lecture of P211 was at 9 am on Mondays, but I didn't have a problem getting up to go to Rick's class. Great prof for a mandatory psych class
Professor Hullinger is one of my favorite professors. He makes class enjoyable and engaging. He's hilarious and actually cares about his students. I would highly recommend a course with him!
Love this guy, makes class interesting, no pressure to go to class (8 skips allowed), easy course material
Rick was awesome, he was great to talk to if you needed help and always gave good feedback. He does make you read a lot but it isn't too terrible.
The papers are not easy and are graded by A.I.'s instead. While Richard may be an okay professor, my AI was very poor at describing the things we needed to do and there was lots of ambiguity to what we were supposed to be doing. Richard is only 15% of this class, the A.I is the other portion. Don't procrastinate. Ask questions.
Rick is by far the best professor I have ever had. Shows up to every lecture fully prepared, & is there to help you succeed. He is extremely accessible outside of class & will answer your emails within the hour. I took 2 classes by Rick this semester & do not regret it. Makes terrible classes like stats & methods of experiments a LOT better.
Great Professor. Class is pretty easy if you keep up, nothing goes deeper than a 101 level. AI's grading varies so find one with good reviews, one of them grade way tougher and this well very much effect your grade. Tests are way easier than you think, you'll probably over study for them.
Great professor & class. Loved the way it was structured. One in class group assignment and one homework assignment per week. Tests have two parts: 1. in-class, concept-heavy 2. take-home, problem-solving. Allowed 5 free absences and participation is only 5% of grade and lectures are recorded. So going to class isn't that important.
Great prof and super easy to ask for help with him. His tests can be challenging, but if you work, you will do fine. The lab section is annoying and not to helpful imo.
Lectures are unhelpful but you need to go for the attendance credit. This class boils down to your AI and their standards for the four papers which are the majority of your grade.
Rick was a really great lecturer! I really enjoyed going to his lectures! The only thing is he legit only lectures, the AIs go through actual assignments and grade all of the essays. So I really enjoyed him (and my AI) but you dont have a choice in lecturers for this class, but hes great
Rick is incredible, truly one of the top two teachers I have ever had in my entire life. I didn't think I would enjoy statistics, but he makes the subject fun and interesting and the funny examples he uses makes them easy to remember. Tests can be tough, but it is easy to meet with him in office hours where he will make sure you are prepared.
I had Rick for K300 and I could not recommend him enough! He is patient with the students and will explain anything you're still confused about over and over if it is needed, without making you feel dumb for not understanding and without being annoyed by the confusion. He is also super entertaining and funny! His lectures always brighten my day! :)
Rick is super fun and makes stats interesting, I'm definitely glad I had him as my prof! Among other things, he is really good about improving himself and accepting feedback. He has an anonymous feedback form where you can ask him a question or voice a concern anonymously and he addresses the feedback directly in lecture. I wish more profs did this
Such a fun guy that clearly cares about student understanding. Easily the best professor at IU. Lots of nerdy jokes. If you ever have the chance to take a class with him, be sure to!!
Easily one of my top 3 professors of all time. Rick made this class comical & entertaining for something that, going into, I suspected would be very boring and monotonous. His exams are fairly difficult and require that you pay attention to lectures and in labs, but all course expectations are fair. Attendance via TopHat are easy points.
Rick is the best lecturer I've ever had. He's easily my favorite professor at IU and as a senior, I've tested out a lot of them! I truly felt like if you listened in class (which is easy because hes a great lecturer) you don't need to put in much study time outside of class except for a quick refresher before tests. He's a really good guy.
not even a real stats class, only concerned with the semantics of it, you will learn absolutely nothing so go take another class instead of having to memorize phrasing just to get a good grade, AIs are not helpful at all and will let you screw up the first exam instead of telling you what to change before
Rick is approachable and truly wants his students to succeed. You'll have to put in the work and attend lectures obviously, but he provides you with all the tools and information you need to do well on labs and tests. No surprises!! He's very energetic and funny, so it's pretty easy to stay awake even if the lecture is boring.
Dr. Hullinger is an excellent, engaging lecturer. This class is a lot of reading of scientific papers, but this just comes with the territory. He is very personable, which makes him more approachable when you need help with assignments.
Professor Hullinger is hands down the best lecturer I've had so far. He truly cares about the wellbeing of his students and you can tell that he's passionate about the subject matter being taught. He provides clear feedback and is a speedy grader. Additionally, he has a great sense of humor and a very positive vibe. I can't recommend him enough!
TAKE STATS WITH RICK. Listen: rick is an amazing professor. I hate stats but he made it 10x more enjoyable and bearable. He's funny and makes his lectures more enjoyable and he's super accessible through his office hours or emails. Super kind and understanding and willing to help you through the course. I'm telling you, take stats with rick!!!!
Cannot recommend him enough. The best professor I have had so far (sophomore). He wants you to succeed and do the best you can do. Highly recommend him.
I can not recommend to take stats with Rick enough. He is the best professor I've ever had and makes class enjoyable. He's so funny and down to earth and you can tell he really loves stats and wants all of his students to do well. His class is setup perfectly to make sure you are actually learning but not overwhelmed with work.
Rick is absolutely hilarious. He's very personable and accessible (feels more like a friendly mentor than a daunting professor). He tends to get super excited during his lectures and get off track. Sometimes I can't tell if what he's talking about is actually supposed to be taken down as notes or not. But he's incredibly enthusiastic/ great vibe!
Stats can be intimidating, but Rick breaks it down well. In the hybrid course lectures were online, and we met once a week to apply what we learned. Test material is very clear, and Rick is available to provide extra help. He is passionate about statistics and includes corny jokes throughout lectures in attempt to entertain students...and himself.
Rick is a fantastic professor! While I didn't love the content of the class, he managed to keep my interest because of his lecture style. He's very engaging, interesting, and funny. I loved having class with him and would 100% take a class with him again.
Professor Hullinger engages with his students in a critical way while remaining respectful and engaged with their needs. Overall, I disliked the content of the course he taught, but Professor Hullinger more than made up for it. My only complaint is that there were many small assignments, which were sometimes difficult to keep track of.
Literally awesome. So understanding and good hearted too!
Rick is a cut above your typical professor. Passionate about his field, makes an otherwise difficult concept accessible to anyone willing to do what is asked of them. P-value is the probability of obtaining test results at least as extreme as the result actually observed, under the assumption that the null hypothesis is correct. Ratings don't lie.
Such a nice, fun and engaging professor and is always willing to help you out. wants to see you do well! highly recommend!
This professor is great. His lectures are both fun and interesting. It is also very clear what he expects and is extremely fair in terms of grading
The ratings don't lie. Rick makes a usually hard class palatable and understandable. He's funny, clear, and such a kind man. He encourages communication when you need help and makes sure you know what you're doing every step of the way. He reiterates that his stats course is NOT a math class, and he means it. I cannot recommend Rick enough.
man is best Professor in IU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i never rate professors here , but this is a must . if u dont take stats with him , im sorry for u .i am very very sorry for u
Greatest of all time! Do not take statistics with anyone else. His lectures were great and he emphasizes understanding the concepts/applications rather than brute force memorizing random formulas/math. He was very helpful and is super chill if you talk with him.
He is so genuinely kind. He truly cares! This class was pretty easy but still challenged your thoughts on things like articles, truths of science, etc. I would recommend :))
rick was a super funny professor but I think the class was just a lot of work than I was prepared for as a first semester freshman - and this class made me switch majors!
I highly recommend this class and especially the professor! Lectures were engaging even on days when I didn't find the subject matter as exciting. The workload was not overwhelming, but it is heavily group project based. Overall, I cannot recommend this professor enough, he is so helpful and gives great feedback!
