Mr. Johnson ROCKS! BUSN101 is kind of an abnormal class, but Mr. Johnson makes it enjoyable and is very funny and relateable and tells lots of stories about his family. There are absolutely NO tests in this class, so the quizzes and assignments matter a lot
Business 101 or Freshman Business Initiative is a pretty useless class. He gives quizzes at the beginning off the semester, but he doesn't tell you what you need to study. There's a group project that is a major portion of the grade. The lectures are on learning styles & personality types. This class does not give a good foundation for business.
Rough outline of Mr. Johnson's FBI: 1) "Frameworks" for thinking, decision-making, group work, leadership, etc. Difficult quizzes over them. __ 2) MBTI and personal strengths. __ 3) Advice on general businessy and school things from peer leaders. __ 4) A few reflection papers. __ 5) A long group project. ___ Course isn't as helpful as said in NSC.
They push this course at you during the NSC but it really wasn't that amazing. The best part was meeting a lot of people from Mays. Quizzes once a week for first month or so but he doesn't talk about the subject until after you take the quiz. Huge group project that lasted 1 12 months with 4 hr presentation. No final though!
Quizzes at the beginning are tough. Lots of extra credit opportunities and he's willing to bump your grade up if he sees you put in effort. Big project at the end that is time consuming but not difficult. Much of the grade comes from "small group" where your group of about 10 students meets with your peer leader weekly. More social than work.
I didn't like BUSN 101 - it felt like a huge waste of time and I was annoyed because they pushed it so much at the NSC. Lectures can be interesting but it's usually just talking about arbitrary frameworks and business models ... nothing super useful. Group project was okay; I loved my group! Easy A but don't take this class if you don't want to.
The business school really pushes students to take this class at the new student conference. This class teaches you about yourself and working in a group. Two things that a majority of people already know how to do. This course is actually a huge waste of time in my opinion along with many others I have talked to.
The group project is IMPORTANT. Before you start, try to apply the frameworks he gives you. That is what he really wants you to get out of the project It isn't about your project as much as it is about how your group came together and worked as a team, but try not to drop the ball on the project if you want an A. You will get out what you put in.
Johnson is a big fan of frameworks; so be sure to learn them! There is a semester long project that consumes all your time, so be prepared for that. He is not very organized and will post assignments at the last minute. If there is a quiz he will let you know the class before. There are no exams and your final is a presentation of your project.
He is very big on understanding the frameworks. Doesn't cover the material on quizzes in class, thats up to you. Most of your grade will be a group project that involve a presentation at the end and you do not choose your group members.
Mr. Johnson is a good professor and the material in this class is not too hard. The lectures are kinda long and pretty off topic, but for the most part they are entertaining. The group project is the biggest grade in the class and you get assigned random group members. Attendance is rarely taken, but is pretty much mandatory to pass the class.
Huge waste of time, his lectures are random rants about absolutely nothing, he does not grade anything in a timely manner, and he did not follow his syllabus as far as points and assignments go. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. if you feel the need to take this class, take the other professor. but i would suggest not taking the class at all.
There is a big group project that takes up the whole semester that you have to do with little guidance. His lectures are frustrating because they has nothing to do with the class, they are really just his points of view on life, but you are forced to attend all classes or your grade will be affected.
Professor Johnson really cares for his students and is a very respectable man. His class (FBI) was my favorite class this semester because he made it bearable to sit through an hour and fifteen minute class. If you really apply what he teaches, it can be a very beneficial class for your time in and out of college.
Johnson personally is a very sweet person that really cares for his students. However, the class itself was a huge waste of time. It is not as fun of a class as they made it out to be, nor is it as important. Lots of quizzes, long lectures, no exams, and one huge group project that took all semester. Didn't grade according to the syllabus either.
Mr. Johnson's class was a favorite this semester. Though not structured, we did learn a lot of valuable knowledge that we can apply to the rest of our lives. This class was also a great way to meet friends as we meet in small groups every week. Overall his class was an interesting and motivating class that really helped my transition into college.
Johnson's class was actually one of my favorite to go to this semester. He's a really genuine professor and cares about his students. I am sad that I didn't get to know him better as a professor so I'm taking another class he teaches this next semester. Teaches you a new way to think and look at things in life. Definitely would recommend.
Johnson himself is a really cool guy. I didn't mind his lectures, but I thought they were pointless at times. You get split up into small groups that you're with all semester. We took a few hard quizzes but if you study you'll be fine. And then majority of your grade is a group project that takes all semester. Its rare to not end up with an A
Small Group with 2 peer leaders has been my most influencial and best class of college so far, you meet with about 15 people and 2 peer leaders once a week
He's clearly a nice guy who sincerely wants to help his students out, but I just didn't feel I really got much out of his class. His lectures have no clear running theme (and nothing to do with work assigned, for the most part) and students are left in the dark as to what he expects, which is made worse by really slow grading.
Great guy, always gets the point across, this class was mainly to transition students into college life so he was more like a mentor to about 240 students and he did very well, always calling on people and picking and really getting people involved.
He seems like a nice guy, but I didn't feel the class had any real point. The lectures seemed random, contrived, and unrelated to our actual work--and the work we were assigned wasn't well-defined. You'll probably get an A, but you'll have to do a lot of pointless busy work for it. Part of the reason I switched majors.
Johnson is a great professor but the class itself felt completely pointless. Everything was group work and nothing was actually educational. He was a good lecturer and a very nice man, but I left class always feeling like there was no reason to have been there in the first place.
Mr. Johnson, so far, is my favorite teacher I've had! He always tries to make his lectures funny and interesting and most of the time they are. The class is pretty easy it's basically a giant group project but it's not hard at all you just have to do your work! I honestly had so much fun with this class, HIGHLY recommend. Offers retakes on quizzes!
Johnson is a nice guy but the class itself didn't seem relevant. He would talk about things that had nothing to do with the classwork. On Mondays we would be in small groups where we did a group project (not hard but A LOT of work) & on Wednesdays we went to large lecture and wore pink... overall the class wasn't hard, just a lot of busy work.
Loved Johnson's class! There isnt a whole lot of valuable info, but it lets you explore the business school and meet some good friends for later on. Easy A, just take it
You are assigned a group at the beginning of the semester, so make sure you are nice to them and try to establish connections. There are a lot of group "deliverables" that are due, but you can make an A on these grades if you put in any effort. Peer leaders grade everything but your quizzes and final presentation. Johnson's lectures are boring.
Johnson is a very caring man who is always looking for people to participate during his lecture. I would recommend this class to incoming students, to allow them to become accustomed to Mays and the different majors. The group project was very time consuming, but teaches you a lot about working as a team.
I would recommend this class. Professor Johnson is very nice and it's a good way to get integrated into Mays. The best part is meeting other freshman and the small group sessions. The group project is pretty easy, but the quizzes can be difficult. I think that all freshman should take this class. You'll meet people and learn more about your major.
You shouldn't take FBI for business knowledge, you should for the lessons it teaches you that can be applied to other classes and meeting people. His quizzes are hard at first and get easier, and sometimes lecture feels pointless (although it's never completely boring). The group project is meant to be a learning experience but you do have to try.
Super easy way for freshman to start their GPA, he lectures heavy and can be boring at times but it's worth it, and most of the times he's worth listening to!
The NSC hypes this class too much. This class was very good in informing me about Mays and letting me meet other business majors. There is one group project and it requires a lot of work. They are very unorganized and the lectures are not that fun either. If you are a business major, I wouldn't take this class unless you really want to.
Only one lecture per week that never really tied in to anything but they were good lectures filled with life lessons. NOT business. The small groups on mondays and lectures on Wednesday were like two separate classes. Semester long group project. Good prof and good class to take for business majors and to meet new people
I took this class to met people in the business major, which i did, so I was happy about that, but this is not a business class. There are a lot of life lessons, but really no business aspect at all. The group project is long and never ending and a little pointless. But almost everyone ends up with a 'A', so there is that i guess...
Richard is the man. Awesome class
Professor Johnson is an amazing lecturer. During his class, he often relates the material to personal stories involving his family. He is an amazing story teller and seems to be a great person outside of school. I definitely recommend getting to know him - he'll appreciate the effort.
obvious that he cares about the material and the students. Business 101 felt more like a class on how to be an overall better person, not just a crash course in business. you learn a lot about individual and group psychology, and it's generally interesting. His class structure is fresh and unique, and goes a long way for understanding the material
I thoroughly enjoyed FBI with Richard Johnson. He is a very smart man and it shows in his lectures. I pay attention to him because I want to hear what he is talking about, not just to do well. You learn a lot of life lessons in his class which is really cool.
Johnson is a very interesting dude and I like him a lot, but Im not a fan of this class. It is much harder to get an A than you would think. Also, theres these very hard quizzes every week where you only get the topic and you research it yourself. Overall, I like Johnson, but do not like this class. I wish I took a different elective
Good guy, hard quizzes but its pretty easy to get an A, just as long as you try your best on the group project and participate in small lecture.
So here's the deal with BUSN101, it is ridiculously hyped up at NSC. They make it seem like this class is essential for a business degree when frankly its just not. Johnson is a great prof, but his lectures are all about frameworks of mind and life lessons. Quizzes every week, big group project that is worth a lot, and a few small papers.
LOVED having Johnson. He's funny, engaging, and motivated me to analyze how I think and do things. The lectures don't feel like lessons, but rather discussions. A semester long project and frameworks are basically the class. Those helped me learn and develop skills based around working with others, which is basically what business majors do.
While BUSN101 is a really hyped up class and kind of pointless (wouldn't recommend taking it), Professor Johnson is awesome. He's a really nice guy who loves what he does, and it shows. You get graded on a few tough quizzes, some reflections, and a big group project that takes the entire semester but isn't tough. Definitely would take Johnson again
There's basically 3 parts to this class. The lecture, small group, and project team. There's a big group project throughout the whole year and the final is a presentation. Perfect class to help adjust to college and Mays business school. Study for the quizzes with matrixes. His lectures are amazing and I loved everything I learned. Easy A
A lot of people dislike FBI because its kinda pointless, but it's an easy A class thats nice to kinda slack off in. Some people love their small group lead by peer leaders but most will not. You will play useless icebreakers so get used to that. You also will do a big group project throughout the semester and present it at the end.
BUSN101 is not as bad as everyone makes it seem. It's a class that's definitely meant to be confusing as far as content of your project group deliverables (which is the annoying part). People complain about it not relating to business but i think it really emphasizes personal development which is still very important. It's also an easy A so why not
The class is a breeze and an easy A as long as you turn in the assignments (which are SUPER easy). Also go to class because your Peer Leaders might take points off if you do not have an excuse. TAKE THE CLASS IF YOU ARE A BUSINESS MAJOR!! The class allows you to meet people who you will be having future classes with. FRESHMAN - take the class!!
The first part of the class is difficult because we took quizzes each Monday of large lecture. The second part of the class wasn't hard because the assignments are easy A's as long as you turn them in on time. Attendance shouldn't have been mandatory but our peer leaders took attendance.
Professor Johnson's class was kind of confusing for a business class. It was more about frameworks you would use in life and less of what I expected business-wise. He does keep class very interesting though and tells a lot of personal stories. You are put in small groups with peer leaders who do most of your grading so you either get lucky or don't
This class has 2 parts: lecture with Johnson and then a semester long group project evaluating a business. Group work heavy and lots of quizzes. No final! Johnson tells great stories during lecture. A good basic intro to business class. Shows you all the resources you have at Mays and great way to meet both your peers and upperclassmen.
Prof Johnson is really a hit or miss some people love him and others don't really understand him. This class Is an easy A, but it is a very pointless class. Doesn't help you learn about any of the business majors. You learn how to work in a group, present, and meet new people from Mays.
While this class was super easy it was also extremely time consuming and at times stressful. Lectures and stories told by the professor were interesting but had little to do with information that would be on the tough weekly quizzes. Semester long group project however was an extreme grade booster!
Really easy class but you do not really learn anything from it. The quizzes are difficult if you do not know the material. Most of the semester is focused on the group presentation. Lots of preparation for a 20 min. presentation with 10 min of questions. Lots of unnecessary stress that comes along with this class.
This lecture is the most pointless class. You have like 6 quizzes in the lecture part then basically every other grade comes from small group. The lectures are boring and seem disorganized and I don't think I learned anything from them. That being said small group can be fun, the project is a practical group project, and it's an easy A.
LOVED FBI! The class inspired me to become an FBI peer leader myself and heavily increased my confidence in my presentation skills. As long as you show up and show effort, you are guaranteed to get an A! Professor Johnson's lectures were more focused on life skills rather than business skills but I really learned a lot and enjoyed them.
This class was an easy A, but at the beginning they make it to where you will be failing until the end of the semester. So it stresses everyone out. The lectures are pointless and the work is weird. Unless you just want to learn about frameworks, I wouldn't take it.
This class was wayyyyy over hyped at the NSC, but it was still a solid choice for an elective. I really like Johnson and did take away a lot from his class, but at times it seemed kind of pointless. Show up to class and get to know your pier leaders, and you will make an A.
This class isn't as great as they tell you at the NSC, but I'd still recommend it because it's still a good way to meet people/start networking within Wehner. Johnson's lectures seem pointless sometimes, but if you show up and put in minimal effort it's almost impossible to not get an A. Study for the quizzes, though.
Some people I have talked to did not like the class. I also did not like the class, but very much enjoyed the professor. I loved sitting through the lectures because I just found them interesting. There were a lot of quizzes and retakes, but the big thing is the main project and the small components for that project. Overall, easy A if good group
Johnson is a good professor but sometimes I didn't understand how the lectures in the big class related to what we were talking in small group. He has a lot of quizzes over the frameworks that the class is based on so if you don't go to class, you will not pass.
Prof Johnson is a very nice guy who cares a lot about his students. Nothing even remotely business related is taught in the class, and besides the weekly quizes there is no point to ever go to class. Its almost a garuanteed A but I wouldn't take it unless you have to, your time could be spend better doing something else.
Just show up to class, pay attention, and work.
His lectures are completely pointless, and have nothing to do with business. The first six weeks there is a weekly quiz, but after that there are none. Attending his lectures becomes pointless after the quizzes are done. The small group part of this class is super beneficial, but that is led by business student mentors! Business clothes required.
This class is essentially pointless, but it's an easy A so it's a good GPA booster. He's a nice and funny guy but I personally didn't really get anything from the lectures. Mainly a way to make friends in Mays because we're put into small groups for a project. You'll need business professional clothes for final presentations!
BUSN 101 was definitely not my favorite class because I felt like it was a waste of time, but Johnson is a great guy and talks about his personal life a lot. He's interesting to listen to and a very good man!
This class felt like a huge waste of time most of the time. Johnson talked about his personal life so much that it just felt like an opportunity to hear himself speak. The few gems of knowledge included some of the frameworks and articles from the quizzes. Super easy class but if you get tough peer leaders it will be frustrating. Easy A
This is one of those classes that is hard to see the significance of the material until you are no longer in the class. It's a good way to get to know other business majors. You will need business professional clothing. Do not let the large lecture quizzes freak you out(lots of helpful videos out there explaining concepts)! Overall easy & fun class
This class is not for everyone. If you are looking for an easy A, to make some friends in the small group that you will be put in to or want to dive into frameworks like Bloom's Taxonomy and Perry's Stages of Cognitive Development, this is the class for you. If not then I would advise against taking it.
I think Johnson is a great prof, but the class itself is not that great. It's a very easy A,s but I thought I was going to learn about business and I didn't at all. The class a good way to meet people though which I why I would still recommend it to all freshman business majors! Johnson also has some great stories!
Please don't listen to the Mays people at your NSC who try to force you to take this class- all it gives you is an elective credit, so it's not mandatory at all. Johnson's lectures felt a bit pointless to me at times, but he's a cool guy, and I had awesome peer leaders. This class allowed me to make an easy A and meet some other freshmen at Mays.
Johnson is a really special professor and provides freshman with structural tips that if taken can really help you get through your first semester. This class is an easy A but it's worth it to listen to what he has to say. Honestly, this class is more dependent on the quality of your peer leaders than Johnson.
Professor Johnson's class has an interesting layout with one day of small group and one day of lecture, but I thoroughly enjoyed his lectures. He is a nice guy and just wants to send you on your way of life with good advice. The class itself is a good starting point for Business majors.
His lectures are life applicable sometimes but they are often not that entertaining. There was a quiz basically every single large lecture day until towards the end of the semester. You don't have to pay attention in class really cause it doesn't help you on the quiz at all. Just show up.
This class was definitely hyped up way too much at my NSC. This class was a huge time waster in my perspective, and often came into conflict with other things I needed to do such as math reviews because it was so late in the day. I don't think I got anything out of this class... but it was an easy A.
Love Johnson he's great. Honestly, I have no reason to complain at all the class was an easy A with no strings attached. The only thing to note about BUSN 101 is that it won't help your understanding of all the different majors as they claim and Johnson's lectures sometimes to connect to the material well, but it isn't a big deal just an FYI.
FBI is a great class to take as a Freshman at Mays. You have 2 classes a week, one is a lecture with Prof. Johnson and the other is in your small group where you work on a semester long project in groups of 5. During lecture, you have a class almost every week about a leadership quality or a business fundamental.
FBI is a great class to take freshman year! You have class two times a week; one is lecture where you usually take a quiz, and the other is with a small group that you are assigned. In that small group you prepare a big presentation with a group that you present at the end of the semester. Easy A and a pretty fun class!
Honestly, he rambles about random unnecessary stories a lot, so it seems like a complete waste of time some days. However, the frameworks (goleman's leadership styles, tuckman's stages of group development, etc.) he teaches in class are so helpful and I know I will use them in the real world! All based on final presentation which is quite stressful
Was not a huge fan of the class, but did not hate it either. Prof Johnson is really nice but class seems unnecessary at times. Half the class is done by 'peer leaders' some of whom are much harder than others.
There are quizzes just about every week. The quizzes are over frameworks he assigned us to study. The quizzes aren't that hard. The lectures aren't that useful but he does tell good life lessons and funny stories. The whole class revolves around a project team you are assigned to. You have to create your own business then present about it. Easy A
Really great professor, class revolves around a project you do all semester. The project was GREAT, had a fantastic small group. Johnson talks about frameworks and has quizzes over them every week, which is the worst part of the class.
I really enjoyed this class! Large lectures could be really boring, but quizzes were not too difficult. I loved my peer leaders and small group so going to class on those days didn't seem like a chore. What you get out of the class comes down to your peer leaders, but it's a fairly easy class with no tests that helps a freshman ease in college.
Professor Johnson is really engaging and energetic which helps you stay interested in what he's saying. He does, however, sometimes go really off topic and talks about his personal life a little too much.
Johnson was very rude when I went to talk to him during his office hours and made me feel dumb. I would NOT recommend this class to anyone because you dont actually learn about the business school or what they have to offer. People say its an easy, but they have changed the course in the past few years and its not.
WARNING INCOMING FRESHMAN. Mays pushes this class on you and it is not helpful and unnecessarily high maintenance. By taking it all you receive is a general elective credit and a head ache. Johnson is a genuinely sweet guy but his lectures and input are not worth the stress of the project. Do not waste your time and money.
I was told this course will boost my gpa. I did the work! A crap ton of work! And only barely scrape by with an A! Your group project is the crutch of your grade, and we were all screwed so bad they had to give us extra credit and curve the final grade. ScrewedWe put so much work into our project only to be given a 72 bc it wasnt pretty enough.
You'll be told to take this class, think twice before you do. Johnson seems like a genuinely good guy, but this "easy A" isn't as easy as they say. The end of year project was made much harder, graded harder, and then took over 2 weeks for the grades to come out!! It's TBD if any of this was useful, but right now I wish I took something else.
amusing man. this class doesn't take too much effort and its a great way to make friends. monday is a large lecture class and wednesday is a class of about 20 students. there are weekly projects but none of them are too difficult or time consuming to do. freshman business majors take this class!!!!
Literally the most random class ever. Pros: Met a lot of the freshman in Mays Cons: Spent the whole semester learning material that could have been covered within 3 weeks. Not really a GPA booster for the amount of work you have to put in, honestly don't waste your money by having to pay for this class.
Johnson was an amazing introduction to Mays Business School! I loved going to his class to hear his personal stories that were always funny and connected to the days lesson. Multiple times where he let us out early which is always nice and a few times class was canceled. 5 quizzes that seem easy but you should prepare by reading and you'll be fine.
His lectures were always so interesting and the quizzes were a little tricky, but the small groups were fun. My peer leaders were amazing and easy graders. My favorite part of going to my small group was listening to everyone's highs and lows. I loved this class! But if you do get stuck with tough peer leaders, good luck!
Professor Johnson is a great choice for BUSN 403. He makes lectures enjoyable and he loves to create a fun and jovial atmosphere for the classroom. This class is not hard. You can either get out what you put in and learn how to write properly or blow it off and get nothing out of it. This is your choice.
I really liked Johnson, but the quizzes can be really hard and are based off his lectures. All of your work is pretty much graded by peer leaders who grade hard even for busy work. Some peer leaders can be really mean and say rude comments so prepare yourself. Also he posts assignments/quizzes Monday and only gives you till the next day to finish
This class requires you to be engaged. If you miss a lecture you'll be lost on the quizzes. Speaking of, the quizzes are pretty hard unless you KNOW YOUR STUFF. He's a really nice guy, cracks jokes in class and overall one of the best professors i've had here at tamu.
Johnson Teaches Well But Be Prepared For Some Weeks To Be Hard; Group Heavy and 2 Minor Group Presentations, 1 Major One; Depends On Which Peer Leaders (Some Nicer Than Others); Quizzes Can Be Difficult (Even If You Study); Gets Easier As Class Goes But Attend Office Hours (It Helps); Class Is Enjoyable And Necessary To Get Good Quiz Grades! NotBad
The first lectures are interesting, he introduces new mindsets to think with throughout college, and he is pretty funny. However, after a few weeks, the lectures become pointless, the quizzes are... different, and just isn't very organized. We also weren't given information on the final exam until 11/29, and the syllabus didn't state a date for it.
Johnson had absolutely no idea what he was doing for the majority of the semester. The syllabus changed about three times with no warning, and he never knows how to answer class questions. He gives hard quizzes with made up facts (such as a Steve Jobs quote that does not exist), and I don't know anyone who has an A. Way harder than it should be.
Mr. Johnson seems like a nice guy, but his busn 101 class was utterly pointless to me. The class is "required" for all freshman at Mays. Try to avoid if possible. It is an easy A but the class is a lot of busy work and quite frankly a waste of time. Nothing wrong with the professor, just not a fan of the class itself.
Johnson is a very interesting dude and I like him a lot, but Im not a fan of this class. It is much harder to get an A than you would think. Also, theres these very hard quizzes every week where you only get the topic and you research it yourself.
This class offers valuable presentation experience and good insight into the business world and life in general. I thought the FYE stuff was pointless but that's out of their hands. Grades are very hard because quizzes and the final presentation are worth most of the grade. In the end they give lots of credit to push students into the A.
Johnson leads large lecture, with all BUSN101 students so you will not see him as much as your peer leaders in small lecture. However, his lectures are actually entertaining and he does his best to prepare students for their future in Mays. This class in general is kinda useless but it's a very easy A and I met some good friends in small lecture!
This class is not an "easy A." I spent a lot of more time than expected on this class, lots of busy work. The weekly quizzes are hard and you cannot study for them. Large lectures are long and quite pointless. I had a more enjoyable experience in the small group portion of the class. You meet a lot of new people and the group projects are not bad.
Large lectures with Johnson himself then weekly quizzes based on the lectures. Make sure you pay attention in class as a lot of the quizzes are based off a couple of things he said. Small group class with your section heavy with projects to present but graded by TAs that were not very difficult. Might seem like easy class but I had to work for my A
This class was pushed so much, but the only thing that it really helped with was presenting skills. The lectures had no point to them at all so they were really a waste of time. Also, the quizzes were super hard and specific for no reason. Do not take this class if it is not required for you because I learned practically nothing about business.
You will learn almost nothing useful in this class, yet despite this the quizzes are still incredibly hard... Get out of taking if you can
Johnson was an amazing professor. He really cares about his students and through the semester he gives wisdom to help you succeed not only in the class but through life. I learned more about doing life right than anything else!
This class was group project-heavy. A lot of assignments were busy work. Professor was amazing but the class layout itself could use some help. Easy A but be prepared for weekly projects, assignments, quizzes, & presentations. No exams except the final. If this class is offered with other professors stick with Johnson he's your best bet.
He really loves what he does and is very kind! Sometimes his lectures are pretty random though
Overall he is a decent teacher. His lectures go off on random spirals that have little to do with the subject. He tells stories that he manages to tie into what we are learning but doesn't ever go over the actual content. He usually runs out of time because he talks about random things so often. He is a good choice and great person just a meh teach
Easy class but you dont learn much. Overall he is a fun dude and cares about what hes teaching. Small groups are fun.
Johnson is a really fun teacher and his lectures can be fun but he doesn't really teach a lot of content. They made this class a lot more difficult than it used to be. He didn't prepare us at all for our midterm and he gives few instructions. Seems to be a fun guy but the class can be difficult at times for no reason.
Johnson is a solid professor but would go off on random tangents. Didn't prepare us well enough for the midterm and claimed that it was easy, but most people got C's or failed. Don't get me wrong, he is a really cool guy, but I didn't learn as much as I think I should have.
Johnson is a nice guy and is super knowledgeable about business but this class was just super unorganized. Most of this is because theyre trying to restructure the class, so overall its unorganized. I think hes definitely a good option! He uses stories to explain the concepts which I know works well for some people and not for others!
Really cool guy, makes going to class fun, but I really didn't learn much. This may not seem like a problem except for the fact there is a midterm and final. Most people got a 70 or failed because of not being taught the content. Seemed to be a prob w all the profs so I'm still glad I took him over another. Attendance is mandatory for small group!
Johnson's a great professor and involves the class a lot. His lectures are a bit hard to sit through because he talks about a lot of things, but course material wise, the class isn't too bad. As long as you're staying on top of your assignments, the class is an easy A. Yes, the midterm was kind of bad (but he curves on exams). 5/10 difficulty.
This class is a very nice introductory course to students at TAMU. The lectures are simple and entertaining, and overall the course is not difficult. The midterm was more challenging than it seems it would be, but the main part of the course is group projects with a small group. Take notes, study, and do well on your group project for an easy A.
Johnson is a great professor. He does go on tangents, but always finds a way to tie those tangents into the course concepts in ways so unexpected that they're hard to forget. They changed the format of busn101 this semester, so the tests were difficult, but that isn't his fault. Big on critical thinking but in a very encouraging way!
Johnson is a fun guy and cares about his students. He goes off on tangents that are supposed to be connected back to business topics but the connections aren't really made. Midterm and final are very hard because nothing is really learned.
He goes off topic and you will learn nothing in his lectures. The day before the midterm/final he will just name topics that he didnt go over all semester and expect you to know them for the tests. This class was a so called GPA booster. Definitely not if you have Johnson.
Johnson was a great professor! This class is by no means challenging, but there are only 2 exams. It is important to show up to class and take good notes, and make sure to do all assignments and communicate with your project group. Your grade may also depend on your Friday small group peer leaders. Overall fun class and low stress!
Johnson is a great professor! This class is lecture-heavy, his teaching is very storytelling-like, might be hard to follow along for some. This class does have a textbook, he offers a free online version. Weekly test (google is helpful), group projects, 2 exams. NOT A DIFFICULT CLASS AT ALL. Overall very nice guy, wants all his students to pass.
When taking this class I was promised it would be an easy A. However if you have Professor Johnson be prepared for none of the lectures to match up with what is going to be on the test. And then when the class average is a C he will lecture his students about how unintellectual they are for doing bad and that his tests are very easy.
Professor Johnson is one of the most interactive and charismatic teachers I've ever had. He made class fun to be a part of. His only slight was getting information off in advance before things are due, but if you got buddies around they'll probably know and help you. Besides that though, Johnson is a great guy and someone with sound advice to help.
The bulk of your grade is reliant on one project, a midterm, and final exam. Prof. Johnson does a terrible job preparing students for these two tests. Attendance is kept, but lectures are utterly useless. Johnson does not properly teach the material, or at least in a way that translates to the kind of questions he puts on exams.
MAN IS DOPE NGL, his lectures are interesting and the tests are really easy. Class is a breeze and if you have a brain you should get an A
The class is easy, but Johnson does not prepare students very well for midterm and final. Class was mostly lectures and group projects. His lectures are interesting but he frequently gets off topic. I learned about life and his kids, but can't say I learned as much about business as I hoped to. Compare notes with friends with other professors!
Highly recommend Johnson! I think he's a hilarious professor that enjoys teaching his students things that are useful in life. Sticks quite loosely to course material and doesn't necessarily prepare well for tests; however, tests are quite easy and there are only 2 of them. Develops critical thinking skills. Thinks differently.
Johnson is a good professor for BUSN 101. He gets off-topic quite a few times when teaching. He's definitely more of a life lessons teacher rather than a content teacher. All the work is pretty easy, however, there are group presentations that you have to do and those can be a little stressful. Overall, a great class, and an easygoing professor.
Johnson is a GREAT professor. He focuses on teaching some pretty helpful/important lessons that have stuck with me. This class is pretty easy. The midterm and final are both easy as long as you study for them(he reviews in class). Another piece of advice- prepare for your presentations and practice them over and over.
He talks about things that are not related to the lesson but have a "meaning". If that isn't your style of learning don't take this class. Most of the grading was done by people you never have contact with and/or peer mentors. Be able to work in a group setting.
Professor Johnson was easily my favorite professor so far at A&M, he is very funny and engaging, his lectures were the only ones that I actually looked forward to. You have small group once a week led by TAs, lots of group projects that are easy and I made some good friends through them. Midterm and final are easy A's if you study, TAKE HIS CLASS!!
Professor Johnson has to be one of the best professors! He goes beyond the classroom content and teaches stuff that is actually practical and pretty useful (something which I loved the most). The weekly quizzes, group projects, and exams (midterm and final) are easy A's if you put in the effort. I strongly recommend taking him for BUSN 101.
Great professor and loves to make this class meaningful. Really enjoyed his lectures. The small group stuff upset me because I was stuck with the same awful group for projects for the whole semester. There are a lot of easy assignments, and the tests are easy so long as you review the vocab a little bit.
this class is so easy. just show up and do the projects and you will get an A in the class. Johnson is not a hard professor, but his grading is slightly inconsistent. He is slightly unorganized, but again, if you show up to class you will be just fine.
This was my favorite class of my freshman year. I love that his lectures go beyond the classroom and into real life skills. He makes a class that should be boring very interesting. I loved my small group and my peer leaders were amazing. Tests are pretty straight forward, mainly just vocab. Very light workload, just about one assignment a week.
Johnson is a great professor! Monday and Wednesday are big lectures & attendance is only mandatory in the beginning. On Fridays, you are in a smaller group with peer leaders and put into groups they make for your group presentations. The presentations are easy, tests are straight forward, and any writing is not hard. Not lots of time spent weekly.
Great professor
Richard Johnson is a very fun professor, his classes are very enjoyable however, his lecture style is not for everyone. It's never straight forward and the useful information can feel like you're trying to find a needle in the haystack in his tangents and stories. But, I like the guy and luckily this class was pretty easy. Study for tests though.
He is super interesting and a good guy, but does tend to ramble about his life and random things. I think I learned more about his daughter's volleyball team than actual business this semester. Overall he's a good professor and tells you exactly what you need to study for the midterm and exams.
This guy was the most unorganized professor ever. Anyone who says they liked him is lying. He never answers emails, and lectures are just about his kids, and I never learned one thing in his class. I wish I had a different professor. He just barely gave us any material to study for finals. Has not helped with learning anything about business.
D1 yapper, almost fell asleep every single class. Easy A but going to class is so pointless, attendance should not be mandatory.
His lectures are useless and boring. He doesn't respond to emails and he posted the materials for the final the night before. Tests are harder than you think but the class itself isn't hard. Overall, didn't learn much, recommend taking another professor for this course.
I didn't expect to learn everything about business. But this professor goes on tangents abt irrelevant topics that had nothing to do with the class. Not very accessible & don't bother emailing him because he won't respond. The tests aren't as easy as you expect. The people that graded the papers are kinda tough too. Wish I took someone diff.
Prof. Johnson talks more about his personal life than about business. It was never clear what to take notes on. Posted the lectures night before the final (that should tell you a lot). Said there wouldn't be too much vocabulary on the midterm and guess what half the midterm was about... Attendance required. Take good notes and share with others!
SCMT300: Professor Johnson would express his disappointment quite a few times at our exam averages. His intention was to motivate us to work harder, but honestly those exams were super easy and the homework were manageable. I really enjoyed his lectures and I could tell he genuinely cares for all of us.
101 is a class where you can get an A and not get anything out of the class and this happened for me (not his fault, i just don't want to be a business major) RJ cares about his students. goes on a lot of tangents. attendance is mandatory and participation is important, pay attention and you'll learn a lot.
Professor Johnson is awesome! He cares a lot about his students learning information that will help them in life, not just on an exam. His lectures are engaging, but kind of all over the place. For those who take great notes, it's hard to follow along, but Johnson is always willing to meet with students to help them succeed. I loved his as a prof!
This course was pretty easy overall but it was hard studying for the midterm and final because we weren't really taught based on what was on the tests. RJ is a cool professor but didn't teach the material very well. Told a lot of personal stories over business material. The group projects were chill and attendance is a grade so show up!
Entertaining lectures with a TA taught session on Fridays.
Not many class assignments, but you learn a lot of useful stuff for writing in a business setting. Really easy class as long as you complete the few assignments. The exams were super easy as long as you paid attention. Mr. Johnson is a really cool person to get to know and is has a lot of professional and life advice. Amazing person.
Johnson was awesome. He truly cares about his students and their well being, and wants you to understand the material. I would take him again and again if he taught other classes on my degree plan. TAKE HIM!!
Professor Johnson is great! I highly recommend taking him. He teaches a lot through personal stories and things that engage the class instead of standard lectures reading off of slides. He really prepares you for public speaking, writing, and interviews in the business world. I would definitely take him again.
RJ is a chill prof who cares about his students, but his lectures can be all over the place. Attendance is mandatory, so stay engaged and take good notes. I found resources like Unstuck AI helpful for study prep alongside the textbook.
Best prof I have ever had (bar is very low), but I love his lectures and I got super lucky with my small group for this class. I genuinely look forward to this class. 2 exams for the semester combined with weekly assignments. Overall I enjoyed this class and would recommend Johnson to any incoming freshman!
TAKE HIM!!!!! Johnson is the best professor I've had so far, he's going to be very hard to beat. His lectures were very entertaining and it's easy to stay engaged. Johnson is very intelligent and knows what he's talking about. Your peer leaders take attendance every class. Every assignment is required no matter what professor you have and 2 exams.
This was probably the easiest class ever! R.J. was personable, sweet, and fun! Theres only occasional hw like critical thinking essays or group projects but no exams besides midterm and final. He gave us a quizlet for midterm that was like exactly the exam, and gave us exactly what to review for the final, so such an easy A! Def recommend him 100%!
RJ is nice and funny, loves to go on tangents during class. No tests or quizzes, just occasional homework and mostly done through your Peer Leaders. The essays are graded pretty intensely, so don't slack off on those. Class is very easy, just turn things in.
I really enjoyed his Business 101 class. Great professor! He clearly loves what he does, and he really cares for his students. A great class that I learned so much in. I will miss it!
RJ is a great professor. He uses personal stories to teach, this helps keep you engaged. Lectures are way better than other profs. Super easy class very little hw. This class has peer leaders and some group projects (they are easy just take feedback from peer leaders). Overall pretty easy class and good gpa booster.
Awesome professor, very cool and engages with students alot. The material is easy, just BE PREPARED for the two exams. While the exam guides seem easy, the tests can be more difficult than you would think. That is why I got a B, lol. Great professor, just be prepared for sneaky tough exams.
If you have the option to take another prof do it. Johnson will not answer emails and will not unlock assignments until 2 days before their due. Mon & Wed you will be in a lecture hall w Johnson and then Fri small group with peer leaders for presentations. Johnson uses stories to show what he is attempting to teach. The 2 tests are quizlet based.
RJ is such an amazing professor to have especially as a freshman. He genuinely cares about his students and his lectures are very easy to understand and he gives great examples to help his students understand the content. There is a lot of work but it is not very hard and a handful of presentations in small group. Overall great at his job.
Johnson is a great lecturer and shares many personal stories to connect the material. The two tests weren't hard and are Quizlet-based. Make sure you and your small group practice the presentation, and you will do fine. He truly cares about his students, and I wish I had gotten to know him better.
The class was not difficult and relied on participation during class. Attendance is not technically mandatory, but most assignments happen during class. He made the class engaging and entertaining.
Be prepared to hear him talk nonstop during class but most information is good. Genuinely wants you to succeed at Mays and gives good tips. Exams weren't hard because what you need to know was explicitly stated. Most tedious thing might have been Peerceptive but overall can't avoid this class as a business major.
TAKE FOR BUSN 101! RJ cares about his students and wants them to succeed! The things you learn in his class are applicable in everyday life. Peerceptiv can be difficult and tests have trick questions but overall very doable.
3 lectures total discussed the class material. Talked more about his daughter's church volleyball league. I kept my notes so I know. However, super great guy who really cares. Super involved, very caring, really wants you to do well. Really likable. His lectures, while often irrelevant, contained loads of excellent general purpose advice. Great guy
Johnson is a great professor! A lot of the grades are very easy 100's you just need to make sure you do them. The tests were almost entirely memorization and very little critical thinking. Johnson tells you what will be on the tests so pay attention. Perceptive can sometimes bring your grade down so be thorough in your work.
His class is a good freshman class because it's engaging and fun, but certainly not hard. Johnson sometimes rambles in lectures, but he's funny so no one seems to mind! He's a good guy and the test are very easy. You'll learn a lot about Critical Thinking and that's the major bulk of the class I felt like.
Loved him, he was so kind and very easy to talk to. He may seem intimidating at first, but once you speak to him once you'll realize he's so kind. Grades came in very slow but that was not much of an issue.
If you're torn between who to take for BUSN 101, just take Johnson. He is the best one, great guy and entertaining classes.
Mr. Johnson is such a cool professor, you can tell how much he cares about his students. His lectures don't focus so much on the course work, but teach important valuable life lessons. Critical thinking is a huge part of the course that requires some time, but everything else is relatively easy. Introduce yourself to him, he's a great connection!
RJ is an awesome professor with a highly engaging class - would highly recommended for freshman who need to take Business 101!
Overall, he seems like a really nice professor but often show that he only care about certain student. Never read his emails, not even once. Lecture was only about himself and his family. Be careful about Turnitin flagging for plagiarism. Would HIGHLY recommend switch to different professor if you get him.
RJ is a very engaging teacher who makes his lectures insightful. He has a lot to say and explains a lot of the concepts in the course through stories. He's a very nice and easy to talk to as well.
Professor Johnson made the class very fun as he told stories, interacted with the class, and took genuine care to know his students and invest in them. He was a very well-spoken professor who made it fun to come to class and learn. He was also kind of an easy grader. I would definitely take him again.
Professor Johnson has definitely set a high bar for business professors at A&M. His lectures are engaging, and if you pay attention, you'll gain valuable business insights along with practical life lessons. The exams are fairly vocabulary-heavy, so staying engaged in class and using solid Quizlets will set you up for success.
Professor Johnson's class is so, so interesting! He tells a lot of stories, and his lectures feel like a podcast. The assignments are graded a bit tough, so you really have to give 100%, but I've heard and agree that he is the best BUSN 101 professor.
I really enjoyed his class, he seemed like he genuinely cared about his students and how we were going to do in the class. It is set up with a lecture on Monday, Wednesday. Small group on Friday, which also encourages building relationships with people in your class, which definitely was a part of why this class was my favorite of the semester.
