I can now relate to the Hawaiians in Pearl Harbor, as this guy kamikaze'd my GPA. He babbles aimlessly about one thing, and tests you on other material. It's like being a labrat and running a maze.

He is a cool PERSON and all but not a cool teacher. His lectures & notes are never ending. Seems organized but really isn't. test questions are very tricky also. all he does is talk talk and then talk some more. I am completely turned off by socilogy now. I suggest taking the class with someone else

Reading the book = easy tests. Talking to him about the essays prior to tests = acing essay portion. Nothing outside book & notes integrated into the tests. Of course, it's boring because it is LECTURE the whole time, but discussions get interesting. He's very helpful and really cool.

I love Mr. Kamei and his class! True, it is a lot of notes and it can be a lot to take in, but he is passionate about his subject and cares a lot. I learned a lot in this class and he is one of my favorite teachers ever!!!!!!!!!!

I dont know why everyone says the tests are tricky, they are prettey straight forward and he gives you the study guide in advance. A lot of lecture notes, but discussions are interesting. He's a cool guy and associates with the kids.

He's a very funny and energic teacher. He's my favorite!!! There's 3 tests and 1 research paper. Tests aren't difficult if you pay attention to the lectures. I do recommend.

I took this class and the first time I got a D. But the truth is he is not hard, you just have to do the work. He is very clear and helpful. I repeated the class, and actually went to class, took notes, and read the book, and I got an A in the class. Love the class.

He is very passionate about teaching and makes you want to expand your knowledge on different events around the world...he is always more than willing to help...wants to have great relationships with his students..and makes the subject extremely interesting...you must read and study to be effective.

Kamei is one of the few really great professors at GCC. All you have to do is show up, listen, take notes from the board, READ the book, and allow time to answer the essay questions before the test. If you go to his office hours for help you will defintely get the A.Hated Soc before but this class made it super interesting!!

take a pillow, a blanket, and maybe tissue paper so you could wipe off ur drool. that's literally how boring his class really is. you will fall asleep. that's a sure thing. you have to read the book, which by the way is more boring. 3 tests and a final and a stupid paper. you have to do a lot of memorization.

Kamei is a great teacher, very passionate. Most of your grade in this class depends on whether you do the readings and go to his lectures b/c tests are directly on the material covered in class or readings. Tests are pretty straight forward, multiple choice questions and a couple essay questions as well. Interesting class and teacher overall.

MR.Kamei is one of the greatest teachers i have ever had. He is also the easiest. i hardly read the book and i got an A. All you have to do is see the vocab because all his M.C. are about the vocab and his essays are easy too. He gives them to u before and u just memorize and write it down on the test paper. He LOVES this subject. He adds personal experience and humor when teaching. He is very organized and yes, his tests reflect this. You need to show up to lecture EVERYDAY and READ!!! Read the notes and the text book and you will be fine. His tests are not extremely hard, but you are going to have to do some work. Mr kamei is a really cool guy. he is one of the best teachers Ive ever had, his energy is incredeible, he is not an easy A teacher, but you should be able do good on the testes if you read each chapter carefully, try to be active in his class, he really likes that. recommend him if you are good in memorizing stuff.

Richard is one of the most interesting and knowledgable teachers in the school. He is extremely nice, always willing to give you a break if it's a good excuse, and he never lets you down.

One of the greatest teachers in GCC, he doesnt have the superiority complex, he looks like a student, and he treats everyone equally. his teaching methods are superb, just follow his lectures and take notes then study those. I never read the book for test and still got a B. This Class is very fun, and recommended to everyone.

VErry good professor and has no bias. THe class overrall is very challenging. Although he explains very well, the tests can be very detailed. Overall there are 4 tests including the final. 35 multiple choice ?s and 2-3 essay ?s that he gives a study guide for prior to the test. This teacher made the class the easiest. I took him in the spring and got a B. I was so happy especially because I had read every chapter and took notes every day in class. He told me that if I wanted a B I would have to read each chapter again that was on the final. So I did and got an A on the final=]

I'm not really into sociology, but Kamei is a good professor. He is funny, very energetic, and helpful. He is totally on the Left when it comes to politics. there is alot of note taking but you don't really have to read.

I loved his lectures, he made it so sociology seemed common sense to the class. You would leave class thinking about what he said and you would start looking at the world around you differently. Wow the discussions in this class are definitely beyond interesting! And even though you really do have to attend class, take notes, and read the text to do well you wont regret it cuz its worth it in the end! Kamei is beyond hilarious and has a way of connecting sociology to everything, so that its easy to understand! Take this class! Trust me!

This professor is the reason as to why my major is now Sociology. I love attending his class and never try to miss it because you learn sociology in a different way. After taking Richard's classes twice, I have to say he's a great guy. He is very eccentric and extremely intelligent. He opened my eyes to a lot of new political subjects and got me interested in current events. As long as you attend his lectures, take good notes, and study for the tests, you'll do well in the class. He's a fairly easy essay grader

Good teacher. I was in a class of at least 100, yet I learned alot. He was not so old fashioned, he used recent and current problems, and it was a good class. He's a cool teacher too, not boring, and he talks like a normal person, not someone who tries to act super smart or super dumb. Good class overall, I would recommend.

first of all the grade: its easy to get an A. you haave to study a**** load and memorize**** but the thing is you knoe exactly whats guna be on the test. itss all the notes and he gives u the essay test questions a week before the test. what more do you want. and Also hes a really cool guy he respects EVERYONE you wont be bored

He is probably one of the best Soc teacher at GCC. He's interesting, most of his lectures we can relate to our life. In class, the discussions can get everyone involved because they are interested in the subject. Wish we would have more time per class to talk about a lot of the issues that are VERY controversial.

Mr. Kamei is such an awesome professor , WOW! I mean it when I say he ALWAYS helps out his students. Some teachers at GCC don't even learn their students names, but Mr. Kamei, even a year and a half after taking his class still knows my name. I took this class for the summer. It was extremely hard! His class was worth 500 points & 400 were tests, which were hard! This class is the hardest ive ever studied for. NO EXTRA CREDIT AT ALL! :( goodluck!

Great professor. If you memorize all of his notes and answers for study guide, you will get an A. There is a 8-page term paper which is not bad compare to Eng class essay. Once understand the concept and big picture, it should be an easy class. Prof Kamei helps a lot to do well in the class.

I got an A in this class. I read all the chapters that were assigned and he is nice enough in giving the essay questions prior to the test (so take advantage in preparing for them). Take good notes on his lecture also and then you should do fine. He is also very helpful. We also did a research paper in this class on any social problem you choose.

It is a class that you must study for. I had him for winter but he is an awesome prof. Loves the subject and goes to great lengths to help u. There is 1 xtra credit, 3 exams, 1 final, 1 paper but A is possible! I enjoyed the class a lot but that's because I'm a soc major. 7 am & I was a chatter box. I wish I got an A, but it is what it is. You have to study there is no cutting corners. He gets off topic but he's a really cool professor & he is very helpful if you ask for a helping hand.

The hardest class I have ever taken, yet one of the most informative. Grade is based on 4 tests and a project so you MUST work your butt off to get that A. If you want that A, don't miss a lecture and read the textbook! If you don't understand material, he's available during office hours so he is a great help! Great person, class, and professor!

Attendance is mandatory because 90% of the exams are based on his notes. The book supplements and clarifies his notes. My best advice- use flash cards. This class is pure memorization. If you want that A, take clear and precise notes of the powerpoint, scan the book, and make flash cards of key terms. All in all, I would recommend him.

Very chill and nice professor! The class consists of 4 exams and a term paper, however this class is very hard to get an A. Pretty easy to get a B or C. Make sure you read the book, and study through his notes. If you need help, just ask he is willing to help you with anything!

He loves his job, the material, and his students. He does make you work for your A and you will want to ace each of his test if you want an A in the class. Go to class everyday. Take good notes. Read your book. Study ahead, I would study a chapter before he lectured on said chapter and that made his class 100000x easier.

I absolutely adore Professor Kamei. His lectures are interesting and he is hilarious. He is always willing to help and talk if you need. He helped me a lot outside of his class as well (recommendations, etc). I recommend him to everyone who is taking a sociology class (even if that means at 7:30 am!).

Professor Kamei is a prime example of someone who is impeccable at what he does. His passion to teach sociology can be felt from day one. Tests are average if you study. Definitely a class that you will remember.

He is definitely not the easiest out there, but his class will certainly be one of the most memorable. Took his class in summer school, he is very entertaining so you won't fall asleep. Tests were not too bad. Multiple choice and mini essay questions. Essay Questions can be hard sometimes. Tells you a list of questions he may ask study all to get a good grade. He has a couple writing assignments which are not hard at all. Overall fun charismatic guy

When I took his class over the summer the bookstore made a mistake and did not order books so we had to use e-books and since I absolutely hate ebooks I did not bother opening it up. With that being said, you do not need to read the book to get an A. I would know cause I did it. Just make sure you understand the concepts and how everything works!

Even taking a 7am with him was worth it because he's so full of energy and enthusiasm. His tests are just short essay questions and multiple choice, but they're time consuming to study for. You're definitely going to have to take notes, read, and study for this class, but he's always happy to help and there is NO excuse for failing. He's awesome!

He's an amazing professor! I was really into his class. Had us use an e-book, but didn't even crack it open to read the chapters. Study his notes and answer every essay question that he gives on the study guide and you'll be fine. Four test, each have about 3-4 essay questions. Two papers, he does mark down for grammar. However, I Def. recommend

Kamei is a rare breed of professors. He is like being taught by an uncle. Many of us SOC majors who are taught by him go on to UCB, UCLA, Stanford, and Yale. Because of his methods of teaching, he has prepared many of us to go onto the next level. He has the ability to inspire others, give hilarious lectures, and can break down theory perfectly.

One of the best professors I've had at GCC! Liked him so much for Soc 101 that I took him again for Soc 102. He genuinely cares for his students and wants you to succeed. Tests aren't too hard- they are multiple choice and short essay questions. Reading the book really helps!

Prof. Kamei is a non-conventional educator. He teaches with his heart, humor and intelligence. Most of his students can relate to the way he teaches because he is so real. He is passionate when he teaches and engages students to the extent that we always run out of time. He is truly an awesome teacher. I could write more but characters limited!

Prof. Kamei's lectures are very interesting and funny. I can honestly say that he's a tough grader. No extra credits, or dropping a grade. He uses a free textbook to save students some money. He's very strict when it comes to grammar so I recommend to do his assignments ahead of time and have someone proofread it.

The reading helps, but he will go over EVERYTHING you need to know for exams in class during lecture. DON'T MISS CLASS. Take aggressive notes of literally every power point. He will tell you what concepts will be on the test, so TAKE NOTES DANG IT. He's hilarious and passionate and a pleasure to learn from.

I took this class over winter. You must show up to class and take notes on his lectures. It's helpful to skim the book as well. He also provides a study guide for the essay questions that may be on the test. If you study, an "A" is doable.

His tests are all multiple choice and paragraph essay questions, but he gives you the questions before the tests so you have time to prepare. He often give hints on what will be on the test. As long as you go to class, take notes and pay attention you will be fine. Studying in necessary, but not on an extreme level if you pay attention and keepup.

He's really nice and energetic. He also gives extra credit and the textbook is online for free. Study and attend class and you will pass. His lectures are very important.

I took Prof. Kamei for SOC101 and 102, really enjoyed his class. His lectures provide most of the info you will need for tests, but you should also read the book. He is always willing to help. You do need to study a bit for the tests but he provides a study guide for the written questions. Multiple choice wording is a little confusing at times!

I've never had a professor care so much about my academic success. He believes in his students and wants to see them do well and provides students with extra credit. His tests are great and is very generous with points when grading the essay portion.

I'm taking the summer class and we just had our first test and it was really easy... if you've been doing what you're supposed to. Read the book after being taught a chapter, pay attention in class, review and plan your writing portion from the study guide and this should be an ez A. 1 hr dedicated to this class everyday, that's all it takes...

Very kind professor. You will have to put the work in his class and ensure you get the good grade. there are 4 exams, 1 essay and its no cumulative. Test have about 30-35 questions and 3-4 essays questions 100 pts each test. Total pts in class is 525, meaning ever 52.5 pts down is loss of a grade. He responds to emails and is amazing.

I really really love this professor! Its not exactly an easy A, i studied hard and got a B but his class was amazing. I wish i was a socio major just to take more classes with him.

This professor is a great professor. He takes up so much time out of his day for his class and you will always get a response by him. He speaks with the class and ensure it ain't boring. (Grade is based off 4 Exam, Research paper, and rest participation which is free points.) Test is about 30 questions and 3-4 essay questions. (If you studychill)

Richard is an amazing instructor. His tests are very simple. Half MC and half essay question. The MC is straight from the power points. Before tests he gives you a paper with 6 possible essay questions and chooses 3 random ones. In other words, just plan out what you would write and you will ace it. A lot of memorization, but not hard at all.

He's an absolutely amazing instructure who genuinely cares about his students. He's really understanding (I was like a point or two away from my letter grade and he bumped me up) but his lectures are heavy. It's mostly 4 heavy tests with like one or two essays. Small extra credit here and there, but very lecture heavy. Great guy.

Probably my favorite professor ever. His class is pretty difficult but it is very enjoyable. I loved going to that class. He's hilarious but brilliant. I got a C in the class but I deserved it because I thought that because he was chill the material would be easy. Very understanding though. Usually doesn't take roll but very lecture heavy.

Can't believe this course ends in like two weeks :( I wish I could take more classes with him. Made me love sociology so much that I recommended all my friends to take a socio class. Sociology used to be one of my worst subjects but be made me fall in love with sociology. Very caring. It was such a pleasure to have him as a professor. The only con of this class would be that it was a 9am class (Im not an early bird). Other than that, it was the ideal type of a perfect class.

One of the best teachers here at GCC. He has great lectures which may seem to go by quick so do get the book and do read the book because it is helpful. I took his class Spring 2018. You will have no homework or quizzes. You will only have 4 exams and 2 papers. Very accommodating. Responds to email in a timely manner. Would really help you out with the papers and lectures if you do not understand. Also he gives study guides for his essay so you know the essay questions beforehand.

I just took Mr. Kamei last Spring, I've taken Sociology at a different college and none of them were as up to date about the world and passionate about the subject as he was. He loves participation. Took his SOC101 class and I absolutely loved it. Highly recommend even if you aren't a SOC major. Reading is important and respectful participation encouraged. I took this as a fast track class but I wish I would have waited until fall because he had to cut out some content to make everything fit. Will def take classes with Prof. Kamei again!

Waited until the night before to start studying for the exams (during summer) and got As on all exams. Kamei is an AMAZING, HILARIOUS professor who never stops smiling.

I truly enjoyed this class. He is such a cool guy and a wonderful proffesor. It was an easy A for me because I took good notes. He also gives hints on what some of the test questions are. He is super chill and funny. He gives little extra credit but the points are enough. I almost never say this, but I will definitely miss this class.

Honestly, chillest teacher out there. Took him in summer, all his test were based on his lecture notes. Just copy everything on his slides and Bam! A+. The tests have few multiple choice questions and 2-3 paragraph questions (all in his study guide). Very Organized and Hilarious. He has interesting stories that are worth taking this class.

I took Professor Kamei's class my first semester back in school after dropping out for 6 years and I loved it. In this class it is very important to study. If you have no idea how to study, just read and memorize your notes from class very carefully. There are 4 exams and 2 written assignments. This class is not an easy A but totally passable.

He is the best, if you have an opportunity to take his soc 101 course I highly recommend it. Soc 101 can be hard for some people, but he is super accessible and makes the concepts fun and easy for everyone. If you have a problem he is very available outside of class. Professor Kamei seems to actually care about what he is doing and always trys to engage the class. Very easy to get feedback outside of class and via email. Funny in a very corny way. Only downside is regular exams but theyre multiply choice and some written, usually based on notes and some book. Book is provided free on canvas!

Amazing professor! He tells you every due date you need to know at the start of the quarter, his exam are mostly multiple choice with 2 essay questions. Take good notes during lecture(helps for the exam). I went to the SI sessions & we would work on the essay questions together which helped A LOT. Very understanding and easy going professor!

Probably the most professional and chillest professor I have encountered at GCC. His class is a little hard, but there is no homework, just 4 exams and 3 papers. If you want an A you have to study and pay close attention to his short response questions. He is a tough grader on the essay questions in the exams, but is lenient on the papers!

Professor Kamei was a really solid teacher during this pandemic. He knows how difficult it has been during these times and empathizes. There are three major assignments and four tests in total. If you pay attention and take notes during his lectures and use the study guides he gives you, you are guaranteed to pass these tests.

Prof Kamei is truly one of the most caring professors I know. He only gives 3 assignments which are essays and 4 exams. You must attend the lectures in order to good on the tests. Amazing Professor! His lectures are fantastic. His class has changed me from the inside. Besides that, I couldn't even imagine that I would write challenging sociology topic essays so easily, but I wrote them smoothly due to his clear explanation.

Amazing professor!! He really loves the subject. He can sidetrack but will give out a study guide so you can know what's going to be on the exam. He also gives on the essay portion 6 questions which he will question 2-3 on that list. You will be good as long as you study beforehand. He gave 3 assignment papers and 4 exams total for the course.

I unexpectedly lost my mom three months into the semester and he walked with me every step of the way to STILL make sure I get a good grade despite my state. Truly incredible at what he does. Professor Kamei's lectures are very information heavy but will help you understand need-to-know concepts. I advise reading the book as it gives a deeper understanding of what is asked on exams. Exams consist of 2 SAQs and multiple choice. The class consists of very few assignments that are papers/exams. *Difficult if you are taking lots of courses.

AMAZING HUMAN. At first glance, the class can be daunting. There are only around 6 assignments for the entire course, so your grade for all those matters is. Professor Kamei is such a kind man with a good heart. He made me fall in love with the subject of sociology. If you are taking sociology 102 take it with him!

I love him! He cares about sociology and has a lot of knowledge. Tests are open-book/notes and online, plus he posts study guides ahead of time. He does have 1 research paper but he is willing to walk you through it. CON: As interesting as his tangents are, he often speeds through his lectures due to them (his slides aren't good on their own).

He is very passionate about Sociology. Winter session flew by, 3 Papers, 4 Tests, read the textbook and don't miss class, you will miss A LOT of info if you skill class. Professor Kammer was amazing and so kind. He truly wants you to do your best. Exams are open book along with open notes. He does sometimes go off track and rushes through subjects, but I didn't mind. Gives good feedback and is so understanding especially if life gets in the way. Would definitely recommend to take him.

I'm so glad I took this class. Prof K is a great teacher & truly cares about his students & what he's teaching. Take notes during class & you will do great. Seriously, the exams are open notes/ textbook and he gives you the essay topics for the test weeks before. All you have to do is put in the effort and show that you care! Thank you, Professor!

Professor Kamei is so sweet and approachable. The tests were a little hard, so you definitely have to read and understand the material. It is an open note and open book tests though, for Soc 101.

He's a fantastic professor, his lectures are very engaging and he's always happy to be there. I don't think I've ever seen him not smiling. The work is easy to understand and he's always there to help the students. A great teacher to choose when first starting college.

Professor Kamei is a cool teacher. Cares a lot. Take him! And try to participate. It helps the lectures run smoother.

Instructors like Professor Kamei are few and far between. He is unbelievably sweet but, like all professors, requires you to put in the effort. The exams are, however, all open notes, so passing/getting an A shouldn't be difficult as long as you write down everything in the lecture slides. Take him!

Extremely sweet and cares for his students. His class is always so fun and easy to participate in. Essays are graded easily but tests are a bit hard. The essay questions on the tests will boost your grade up so its not to bad. I've already sent multiple people to take his class.

He is a sorta tough grader but he's really funny.

Tests are kinda tough but you are allowed 1 page of notes which is more than enough to do well. You should definitely take him if you have the opportunity.
