This guy is a Kook. Psychology sucks, it is a psuedo-science, but this guy never teaches you psych anyway. He talks about his wife, kid and chocolate as he bebops around the class. He's a nice guy though.

Kandus rocks. He's funny and caring, and an all-around nice guy. He actually cares about the students learning and respects them as adults, not as high school kids. Highly recommended.

Cool teacher, good guy. Makes the class fun. Even though he sometimes gets off track, beacuse of that, be prepared to do a lot of reading. The tests are a breeze.

Coolest teacher around by far. He is from Northern Cal, where people are more mellow and actually still care about people, unlike most people who are so selfish and only out for themselves. He is an artist too and seems to have many cool interests.

If you can't pass this class...quit school. This man does everything for you. Entire class graded on curve. Multiple choice questions from book can be tricky but ask him during the exam and he'll guide you. Some extra credit available, but the curve helps, too! Took Abnomal and Develop. I love Professor Kandus' class! He's so funny! His lectures aren't boring at all and he makes concepts easier to understand. Really great psych teacher, make sure you read the chapters and ask what terms you need to know. I am currently taking Richard's abnormal psychology class, I love it.He covers most of the material in class, however you should read the chapters to do well on the tests.There is no actual homework. He creates a very fun and easy going atmosphere, and engages with us. Even if you aren't that interested in psych, I bet you'd still love the class.

I've never before or since seen an instructor with such a loyal following- a great many of us took more Psych credits than needed simply to spend one more semester in his classroom. His presence at MSJ would draw me there if I were to return to school.

Awesome teacher. You only have to do a couple articles and four tests, which you get a full page cheat sheet. If you want an A you need to read the book, but the in-class lectures cover a lot of what it on the tests.

Great teacher. I am now a cognitive science major at UCSD, their program is crem de la crem, and Kandus would easily fit in with the professors here. He is one of my favorite 2 professors at msjc. He knos the material well and introduces you to current research where he can. definately take this class

Professor Kandus is simply AMAZING! He is very friendly, kind, helpful and makes learning fun. He is not boring and is informative while giving lectures. Kandus is seriously the greatest teacher I've ever had in my entire life. Teaching is the guy's passion and he got me even more interested in psychology . He'll answer any questions you may have and has no problem staying after class to talk. If you read your book and participate, you'll pass. 10/10, will take more of his classes.

Hmm, there is nothing inspiring about this professor. He let 6+ students stay in the class at the start of the semester leaving students w/o chairs and desks (even during exam.) Nothing is hardly covered in class. I spend more time studying for this class than my 5 credit calc class. This class is only 3 credits... You have been warned.

Attendance isn't necessary for passing, but it's definitely better to be there for the lectures. All of the powerpoints are put on blackboard, and as long as you review the chapters and make a good cheat sheet, the tests are easy to pass. He genuinely enjoys teaching and answering questions, and he's always available during his office hours.

I've taken his class a few times. Every semester has been awesome and I would recommend taking his classes

Professor Kandus is amazing! His lectures are always entertaining and interesting. He gets the class involved and allows you to be apart of the lecture rather than just being an audience. He really has a passion for psychology which comes through within every lecture. He truly cares about his students and offers any additional help if needed.

Great person, great professor. There's no way you can dislike this man, even if you don't like his class or psychology in general. If you ever need help with anything ever (even not class related) he will be there for you. The tests are VERY difficult, and pretty much make up your entire grade, but he lets you have a study guide. Would recommend.

I went into this class already hating psychology. But, Mr. Kandus oozes (in a good way) with passion for this subject. The lectures are interesting and he is a wonderful person. After this class, I'm wishing my ed plan called for another psyc. class just so I can see Mr. Kandus. If you have the opportunity then you must take this teacher!

Kandus is an incredible teacher and a good man. He genuinely cares for his students well being. His lectures are top notch. The more you participate, the more you will get out of this class. Read. The. Book! Tests are tough, but if you read the book and participate in class, you will succeed. Highly recommend this class!

Richard Kandus is by far the best teacher I have ever had at Msjc. He is a very genuine person and he makes his lectures very interesting. The tests are difficult but he lets you use cheat sheets on his tests. I have taken all of his psychology classes he teaches and definitely anyone needing to take a psychology class I recommend taking his.

Kandus was the best teacher I've ever had. His lectures are so clear and understanding! Love his cheat sheet method for tests, because they can be challenging. However, as long as you read the chapters and soak in the material you'll do fine! He gets back to all emails quick and keeps grades up to date. Highly recommend :)

I have had two of his classes, 101 and 108beautiful person, detailed and interactive lectures, more than willing to help anyone with anything during breaks and after class. READ. THE. BOOK. He does allow cheat sheets on tests but they only help if you MAKE THEM DETAILED. His tests are very difficult. I HIGHLY recommend him for any Psych class.

Had him for PSY 101 and PSY 108. By far my favorite professor! He really cares about what he is teaching and his students. I always found his lectures entertaining and interesting. He is a fair grader and attendance is a must. If your going to take a psych class definitely take his!

Professor Kandus is a fantastic teacher. You will need to work for your grade but he is very fair and happy to answer any questions you may have. He often brings in guest speakers to help you better understand the subject. He is a great human being and an even better teacher! I would definitely recommend him!

It's professors like him that makes learning fun and enjoyable. Funny guy, story teller, and overall a pleasure to be taught by him. Just make sure you do more than take notes in class. Read, read, read is all I have to say. Extra credit is an option.

Richard by far was the best psych. professor I have ever taken! he's very open and always eager to help and listen to students. he's very friendly and is always available through email. He allows one page of notes into tests and drops your lowest test score. I would hands down take him again! Be ready to study for quizzes and tests, best teach ever

I got a B without reading the book from just paying attention to his lectures which are alway interesting and entertaining.

Kandus is awesome! He allows notes on tests but you really have to read because the tests are a little rough. There might have been three assignments due the entire semester so you really have to do well on the tests and quizzes to maintain your grade.

Loved the class it inspired me to change my major. His tests are hard but just make sure to do the reading (from the free online textbook) and youll be fine. All around great class and great professor. He cared about his students and made the class interesting 10/10

First of all, why is his overall rating a 4.8, it should be a straight 5.0 that's not even enough to prove how awesome of a teacher he is. Seriously take his class, I didn't think I was ever gonna find another cool teacher. It's not an easy A, but it's worth putting in the effort for a teacher like him. One of my favorite professors and I will be hopefully taking him again for PSYCH 103. Amazing lectures and he does love to talk about his daughter so be prepared! I was really close to receiving a B for my final grade but my last test score messed it up. Great teacher overall and I always looked forward to attending his class.

He did require reading from the textbook a good bit, but he allowed cheat sheets on tests so they're not too hard. Liked to tell stories from time to time. I enjoyed this class quite a bit. He is really fair and kind with his grades, which I really appreciate. He's also one of those teachers that doesn't try to keep any secrets from his students or hold out certain information that we could use, which is a really great quality. If you can get a class with him, you should totally take it.

Nice professor. He is very kind and helpful, made it a fun course to cover. However, he tends to get side tracked and lets other students tell stories a lot, which takes up so much class time, which made me think it'd be better to just read the book instead of showing up. Nonetheless, still a hard, but fun class. He lets you have cheat sheets too!

He's really passionate about what he does and his class is structured so that we really get a grasp on how the subject matter relates to so many things outside of the classroom. I have Professor Kandus for Abnormal Psychology at MSJC and also took his Intro to Psych class during the 2020 spring semester. He's super approachable and is willing to work with his students. His classes are pretty lecture heavy and you will get most of your points from tests. However, he makes topics easily digestable!

Professor Kandus is such an amazing teacher and person. Ive had him 2 times here at MSJC. He is very flexible and understanding with anything personal you have going on as long as you communicate to him. He relies heavily on the book, so make sure you actually read and take notes. If you do that youll get an A in his class no problem.

I took as an eight week class, be prepared to read if you want to do well. You'll watch videos, attend lectures, respond on discussion boards and do two projects. Tests are on the hard side, MUST read the chapters!

Professor Kandus is my all time favorite professor. I took him for psychology 101 and abnormal psychology, I absolutely loved him. He does offer extra credit, although if you just do the work you wont need it. He was recommended to me by a friend and Im so happy I had the chance to be in his classes.

It was a very easy course. I took it in high school and it was one of the easiest classes I took if YOU STAY ON TOP OF IT. Theres a few big assignments but he gives you a great amount of time to complete it. There is one report and a final. Do study for it, it will make ur life easier.
