This guy really loves teaching, however that doesnt make him a good one. He relies very very heavily on powerpoint slides that he doesnt even make up, his class can very boring since you are just watching him read over something you have in front of you.
respects hard workers a lot, trys hard to improve the students level of understanding. extremely intelligent guy, brought in at least 10 guest speakers which was cool. he makes you work, but if you put in effort he makes sure it will pay off
Looking back hes a good guy who def cares about your success...u need to do the hw to do well, hes def quirky but overall not a bad class
Picture Al Franken but even more of a tool. I really wanted to learn a lot in this class but all he talked about was WalMart and how great it is-his love for them also shown by his wardrobe. Hes more concerned that your hw is short so his lazy ass doesn't have to read too much than if it makes sense
quirky guy, loves the bowties lol. as long as you do the hwk ?s and make them concise (use bold, italics, bullets, tables heLOVES that) and come to class (even though its kind of a joke) you'll do well. 2-3 tests, open book open note. lots of guest speakers. pretty easy class.
Has a structured teaching style but very effective. I found this class to be easy. Everything is laid out for you. DO go to class though because he knows. Just do your work and do your best and you'll get a A. It's not a hard class at all.
great guy, do your homework and youll get an A. tests are challengin but dont carry that much weight in your grade.
he is a great guy! the nicest and way easy. follow his format, hand in work on time and you'll be straight
HW assignments 1-2x/week, but very easy to do. 1-2 pages of tables/bulleted lists. Tests are openbook/notes, but are HARD. Never exactly sure what he wants for answer, but there are only 3 of them and a case for final. Lots of extra credit though. Attendence/participation worth a lot - easy points if you show & pay attn.
Just do the HW and find someone who has taken him before. All the tests are the same from the previous semester. Extra credit is a must and you will easily pass!
Professor Kesner is a nerd. If you are not a nerd, you will find him annoying. His tests can be difficult, but if you know someone who has taken the class before, they can probably help you out. Do all of the homeworks and NEVER write anything in a narrative... he hates that.
Pretty good professor. Knows what he is talking about , but the tests are a bit confusing. Homework and final project are out of the book, but tests require more than just bookwork. Tests are based on knowledge of the subject as a whole .. so its pretty hard
Hardest class ever- but one of the best. A huge group project was our only grade- no tests or exams. If your interested in whatever the class is about, and your willing to do the work, you'll enjoy the class. If your not determined and want to slack off, he'll call you on it and fail you. Otherwise, you can learn alot from this guy.
one of my favorite professors, he is straightforward, learned alot about the role of information systems in general. make sure you do homeworks to his liking. (also tests) he could careless about the answers, but if it is according to his format, you'll get a good grade.
I thought he was a ok teacher but not very clear with grading. My friend and I would but the same answer on a test and he'll give us a different grade lol. I think you'll be fine if you take this class but just know that he's a strange guy.
Sticks to the rules. If you follow the guidelines he provides for you, then you will do fine. Quizzes are difficult but not impossible. Make sure you do the homework in the format he requests or you won't get credit. He is really strict on that.
Terrible professor. The class is his own personal ego trip. He offers little to no help if you go see him. If you turn in the exact same work as someone else, the grades could differ immensely. Heavily weights class participation and tends to be unfair.
Constantly at his wit's end - at least this is a really short journey for Kesner. I checked with other class mates & they concur - he makes what should be a straightforward class very dificult. The classroom is this little Napoleon's chance of an ego trip. He is unhelpful and blatantly unfair. He treats his students with contempt & sends rude email
He does for IT teaching what Adolf Hitler did for study of German Culture.

If you do the homework and follow the guidelines, you will automatically get 100%. If you dont do the assignments you'll get 0%. Test are open book. Hes a very nice man, and you can see he really has real-world experience. He always brings guest speakers from cool companies. He is always helpful during office hours. Go Kesner!!
Not a hard professor, I don't get why people complain. All his HW are from slides or the book, and the final is take home. No presentation. You can get an easy A if you pay attention and read the slides.
Doosh Bigalo. Impossible to reason with. When there is more than one right answer, his is the only one that counts. I have gotten one grade lower than a B+ in school, his was it, a B-.
Horrible professor.. very biased to the students he likes. If he don't like you - drop his class - you will do very bad
It's boring material and he doesn't do a good job of making it any more exciting. He's not particularly pleasant nor does he have a sense of humor. But I really advise going to class and taking notes on EVERYHING he says since quizes are open-book. Not helpful, but this isn't rocket science. PARTICIPATE. And do the homework.
Participation is all that matters. This guy hated me. tests are the same year to year, even with the tests he gave me bad grades (copied and improved answers in my notebook) but how can I argue that. Had a C went to his office with about 3 weeks left, he told me to participate, so i asked stupid questions for 3 weeks and got a B. wont learn a bit.
Everyone I know dreaded going to this class. The material is boring to begin with, and Kesner isn't really a pleasant guy. Participation is heavily weighted: The kids who constantly ask stupid questions and make borderline-irrelevant comments get the As, while everyone else gets the Bs and Cs.
This class is easy to do well in, just do the homework and print out all the slides and case studies and bring them to the test (open book/note). You don't learn anything and he sends creepy emails 24/7 with smiley faces which is weird. I'm sure he means well, but hes comes off creepy and weird. Bring your computer to class, otherwise you'll sleep.
He makes class painfully boring. The class was very easy but the weekly cases were time consuming and useless. He sends at least 5 emails to the class per week, and each email contains typos/grammatical errors, which makes the directions he is trying to convey very difficult to comprehend. He is a nice guy, but lacks in the teaching department.
whats with the bowties? class was most difficult i have experienced. hw i got 100 on tests are impossible even tho they are open book. participation and attendance counts. i missed 4 classes late to one and he sluaghtered my grade from an expected B to a C. gave me a 3 out of 10 for att/part, and i talked every class, thanks kesner!.
Kesner was awful. He turned a class requirement into HELL. The tests were insane--he wants you to think "out of the box". He's boring and grades like a crazy person. AVOID AVOID AVOID.
I do not understand why this class is a requirement for business but other than that say far away from this teacher. In my years at NEU I have never had such a useless class or teacher. He doesn't teach well or effectively at all and gives you massive amounts of homework. If you are forced to have class with him GOOD LUCK.
I don't know why everyone hates Kesner that much. He isn't really that bad. Yes, he's a terrible teacher. Yes, he can't seem to write papers that everyone can fully comprehend, but, there in itself is the education. His papers are ridiculously tough, but they're open book. Do your homework, do your case studies, and READ the material. You'll be fin
Terrible teacher. So unclear, tests are a shot in the dark- you have the review AFTER the tests. Homework content is discussed AFTER it is due. Worst class by far at NU.
Has homework every night. Homework is somewhat hard, however easy grader on homework. Goes over it every day and it is very helpful for you to write down what he says. It will be on the quiz. The book is needed for the online quizzes. A helpful hint for class is to talk a lot for the participation grade. Say something even if you think it's stupid.
requires a lot of work. tough grader. have to try really hard to get a good participation grade which is a big part of your grade. you have homework every class and if you can't read his mind you won't get it right. it takes a lot of effort to get a good grade. its an awful class no matter what but be ready to try with him
Northeastern is wondering why nobody is majoring in MIS, they should watch how kesner is in class, No wonder nobody wants to major in it. he is a dictator, he doesn't tell you what he wants in hw, but gives you super low grades if you can't read his mind and do his homework in the specific form he wants you to. don't even ask him questions.
Compared to what I heard about other MIS teachers, Kesner is actually not THAT bad. At least he is able to answer/tackle any concern students might have quite effectively. It is true that his grading is terrible and that he expects a lot from everyone, but do your best to do well and you might actually do well.
Unclear much of the time, doesn't understand how to use Exce/Access but expects us to.
Worst class I have ever taken takes joy in seeing students fail impossible to do well do not take this class
YOUR WILL BE FINE ON ASSIGNMENT IF YOU FOLLOW HIS "RULE", OTHERWISE..IN TERMS OF THE QUIZ, HARD THAN OTHER SECTION THAT I've know. TEXTBOOK ONLY USE For online multiple choice "quiz". He is looking for every student participate in his class. i won't take this class if i were you.
Hardest teacher i have ever had, unclear in what he wants and takes points off no matter what, does not want students to do well, not sympathetic to anything, you dont learn anything all he does is go over the previous nights case
Hes a good guy and he is passionate about the subject - the key to success is writing exactly what you think he wants to hear and you will get a good grade. participation and good standing is key
He is an interesting human being. Most of the time, he expects you to read his mind like an open book, which will turn out to be nearly impossible if you never had some exposure to the subject. Globally, the assignments are not too hard, but his grading methods are beyond ridiculous. He is able to be nice, but he's mostly weird, like his tests.
Unfortunately this is the type of professor who thinks everything revolves around his specific subject. Since this is required, you can't get out of this class not to mention he is the only one who teaches it. Not only is he meticulous about everything, but tries to teach us about things like team work and which is something we already know.
Not a good professor for me. He knows his thing just that he has no idea how to explain it. You pretty much have to guess what he has in mind for quizzes and homework. Not helpful when you ask him questions. Make sure you participate a lot in class and take notes.
He is tough, but expect the best out of you.
I received a low grade on my first quiz, which shook me, but I was able by the end of the course to get an A. The most important thing is to review the answer keys, after you've taken the quiz and tailor your responses around it going forward. Also, I wrote a lot to make sure I covered absolutely everything.
If you can read his mind, you will be fine. Otherwise take anybody else. Grading is ridiculous. Quizzes are ridiculous. The participation grade is ridiculous. He has no problem being condescending and rude to students. Most unhelpful professor I've had. Difficult to get a B. DONT EVER TAKE
This is the worst professor I have ever had. Rude, unhelpful, and can only pass if you think like him. Unfortunately, this is the only professor that teaches this course, so there is no way around it. I just don't understand how the college can continue hiring such a terrible professor, and only be the one who teaches this course!
Kesner is very unclear about what he wants on his homework assignments. You end up having to teach yourself access if you dont know it. If you can avoid, do!
He is one of the worst professor I've had. He worked in the industry when computers were not even around. I copied his direct notes for the test and he marked it wrong. A class of 26, 0 got A's, 4 people got B's and 6 got C's. He is awful! When I asked for help he said we went over this in class and I should understand it. Not helpful at all!
Don't do it.
Kesner is by far the worst professor you could have for MIS. He wrote the entire course so he's pretty much full of himself so prepare to have your ideas shot down. He's condescending and expects you to know everything. Participation is a ridiculous amount of your grade so you'd better raise your hand every class or it'll really bring it down.
Worst Professor I have ever had. Absolutely no clarity in his teaching. Way too abstract and expects just too much. If you write 40 pages for a 1 paragraph answer he will still have negative remarks and NEVER give full credit. Hard work can be a waste in this class. Highly suggest to never take him!
This guy is the worst professor I've had at NU, and this is the last of 34 courses I've taken there. He is controlling, argumentative, rarely clear, and expects us to read his mind. I have never seen a professor be so nit-picky; he simply expects a regurgitation of the cases that he wrote 20+ years ago and will severely punish you if you don't.
If you are looking for an awful semester, take this class. Being an "executive professor", he may have held many important positions in the industry - but that does not transfer to teaching ability. He is pompous and arrogant. The most feedback you'll receive is "ok" or "no". No office hours. Cases are logical, but his followup questions are not
What a shame he made this class. MIS is very interesting, but this man is so rude and condescending. I did not feel that he wanted students to succeed. He was so paticular about things in a field where there are multiple answers. MIS is a growing field, but it is so small at NEU probably because he discourages students in the intro class.
tough tough grader. don't take him. he expect you to learn ALL by yourself. he expect soooooo much participation in class, office hour and email. he does not answer questions. he throw them back to you. no textbook, he have articles for you
For 3403 you will need to dedicate at least 20 hours a week (not including class) with your group if you want to get a B with Access assignments. Expectation are not clear because "Customers don't give you clear expectations." I did learn a lot, but grades in other classes suffered due to this one. Check his grading he tends to miss things.
Harsh grader. Homework is due before he even teaches the subject. Expects a lot of participation. Not helpful when you ask questions, and is quite frankly kind of rude. Would not reccomend this professor for any subject ever. Sad that he has made this class so unenjoyable when the subject could have been a lot more interesting/
To quote Kesner's own email to the class regarding our 2nd exam: "Overall, the outcomes are pretty much like last time's... disappointing but there you have it." Avoid this class at all costs! Kesner is egotistical, stubborn, and downright rude. I was excited to take MIS, he ruined that. Don't know how he's still teaching at Northeastern.
Destroys any confidence you may have coming into this class. Has his own rule where he apparently doesn't give out A's, even if he's pleased with your work so seriously do not expect one. He seems to think he's the expert on all things and has no respect for students at all. The person who wrote below me is correct, and yes he actually sent that.
He has extremely specific answers in mind for his questions which will never be clearly explained. His feedback is terrible and long winded without addressing your actual work. He often takes off "half a point" as partial credit, but that is out of 2 points total on 4 questions. He also gets extremely defensive about his teaching style.
If you study hard, you will get the score you want. Don't take his class if you want an easy A. Participation grade is up to 10%, try to raise your hand twice each class, you will get a full participation grade(Not hard because there would be lots of questions he will ask in class). Go to his office hour if you have time, he is willing to answer.
Kesner is he hardest and most unreasonable Professor I have ever taken at NEU. Ridiculous amount of work and he does not take criticism well. If you take other courses and work, forget it you will most likely not make it through this course with a decent grade. Unclear expectations, 16-20 Hrs weekly workload and egotistical Professor-- AVOID!
This is the absolute worst course I took at NEU. Kesner is an autocrat with a big ego and teaching IT material that is 20 years outdated. He is rude, unreasonable and egotistical. He gives 15+ hrs/wk in busy-work homework. This is supposed to be a basic MIS course but its actually one of the hardest. He tests trick questions found nowhere.
He gives unnecessary amounts of work that are based on his own materials because he's so high on his horse he doesn't need a standard text book. His grading is unclear, he's rude in his responses and nothing is learned from him as a teacher. It's sad, really.
He can only score good on his course.
Teaches based on his own personal written "book" - no textbook. You'll never get the answers right no matter how many hours you work. He tells you he doesn't give A's - even if your work is perfect and he is not kidding. You have to record your group project sessions and he DOES watch them. Not sure how he's still allowed to be "teaching". RUN.
PART 1: Professor Kesner is the worst professor I have encountered so far at my time here at Northeastern. I initially enjoyed the content that we were learning in class, but as time progressed and as I became more and more familiar with his teaching style, I realized it was nearly impossible to do well in his class. He expects you to think........
PART 2: creatively, yet he's looking for very specific answers that basically require you to read his mind in order to be correct. He also assigns the homework BEFORE the class in which he teaches the content required to complete the homework, so as a result, homework was sometimes difficult to score well in. In addition, his grading system is.....
PART 3: extremely unfair, and the class average for each exam is usually a 50% or lower. On top of all of this, his personality isn't great either. Although this is less important than other factors to consider when selecting a professor for a course, it is significant enough to mention. He can sometimes be rude and dismissive to students, and is..
PART 4: often patronizing and arrogant. It is unfortunate that my experience taking this course with Professor Kesner was so awful because my second concentration is in Management Information Systems, and he makes me not want to pursue it anymore. For future students who are looking to take this course, avoid taking it with Professor Kesner........
PART 5: AT ALL COSTS. If you care about your GPA at all, you would take this review into consideration. Last but not least, I understand that this review is coming from one student, myself, but I regret to say that I have heard other students in my class share the same sentiment as me in terms of our view of Professor Kesner.
Don't take his class if you want an easy A. Take his class if you want to learn. Even you might feel you don't have the correct answer to his question in class, he still knows that you have tried your best if you raise your hand. Love his class
MISM was literally the least useful class I took at Northeastern and this professor is on my list of least helpful professors I've ever had. He gives completely unhelpful feedback on all of his homework assignments, which end up just being busy work. I'm glad I took the class online and didn't have to deal with him in person.
this class had the potential to be made interesting and relevant but instead there is busy work every night and the comments received on them are generic and thrown together in an unorganized paragraph. the case studies and readings are full of glaring grammatical errors. he also sends rude emails filled with attitude and condescending remarks.
The WORST professor ever. DO NOT take this professor. Give every student the same comments but different grade. I would give a zero if I can. Exams don't cover the materials he gave. The grading is unclear. Worst course ever take. Would give a zero if I can for him.
Only good thing about this class is that it is online .. nothing else
The professor is literally so condescending and pompous. he makes it so difficult to even barely enjoy this class. many people take it online during co-op for more flexibility, but this class is more rigid and has more deadlines than in in-person class. he has no respect or care for the students or any understanding that many are working full time
Such a bad professor!!! Do not take him...
AWFUL. PERIOD.
Professor Kesner provided me with the worst experience I have had in my academic career. Grading system that aims to take away points more frequently than they're given, long and illegible pieces of generic feedback on every assignment, and endlessly unpleasant condescending remarks. Avoid MISM2301 with Kesner at all costs. I didn't learn anything.
Worst professor I have ever had. Extremely rude to students, most ridiculous grader ever (average 50% grade on group assignments....) and does not teach anything only demands knowledge. Stay away....
This was the worst professor I had. The ridiculous group assignments require you to record working sessions which is extremely difficult for online students when many work full-time with varying schedules and have families. There was no book and his provided materials gave no insight into the answers he was looking for.
Literally, he is the worst professor in the universe. Under no circumstances take his class if you care about your GPA, the best you can hope for is C. No one from my team got higher than D on his tests. No matter how well-written the test is he won't give you even 50%. Very disappointed that I took his class and killed my nerves. - 100 out of 5
By and far the worst class I've had. Has an absurd amount of homework, forces you to learn useless information that I can guarantee I will never use in my lifetime . Worst of all is that he is a hypocrite, requires students to write in a concise format but is unable to do so himself. Comments are confusing and unhelpful Only take him if you have to
This is by far the worst class I have ever taken here. If you need to take MISM for your major, RUN AWAY FROM THIS PROFESSOR. I thought that by having it online it would be some what easier than taking an actual in class course, but oh was I wrong. LITERALLY JUST RUN IT IS NOT WORTH IT
Totally agree the common posted below mine. I'm taking the online course with professor Richard. I need to spend more than 8 hours a week to finish the case study and quiz, and it was so exhausted for student who have co-op. I take his class because he is my last choice of graduate, so AVOID his class as long as you have other option.
Absolutely NO empathy for students! Gives out homework like student's life is empty. REFUSED to let me take exam because I clicked 'Proceed' on the online exam page and accidentally lost the link to the exam paper. Promptly emailed Prof. Kesner for a backup link WITHOUT asking for extra time and received back: "Sorry, No."
SOOO much homework. I think Prof. Kesner thinks this is the only class his students take. NO respect for student's time and completely inflexible. AVOID at all costs. Take a different class if this is the only professor available (there is a reason for that)
AVOID AT ALL COSTS ! ! ! It is better to pay FULL TUITION to take only THREE courses than it is to take his class and do poorly in all four courses. I was failing all my classes until I dropped his class. Prof. Kesner has no respect for students. The amount of work and deadlines is inexcusable. He demands knowledge but is unwilling to teach.
I was apprehensive to take this course given all of the negative comments, but he's actually a really great professor to learn from. Definitely not an easy A, but it's achievable if you work hard, keep frequent communication, and take his feedback seriously. If you don't do the readings or case studies as if your life depends on it, good luck.
I have never felt the need to write on a website like this one until now; all of my professors were pretty good. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He is rude and won't help you. Full of incredibly annoying case studies. and only one useless online class a week. If you care about the huge amount of money invested in you education please do not take his class.
Unreasonable grader. Insecure and passive aggressive. Bombards students with rambling, incoherent emails nitpicking over minor course logistics. Need the Dewey Decimal system to locate any relevant course material in a maze of Blackboard folders and sub-folders. Out of touch. Enjoy retirement, Richard.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!
VERY EVIL MAN THAN ENJOYED TORTURING STUDENTS.
WORST PERSON ON PLANET EARTH. Used the class as a weapon to hurt students.
He really bullied students and in his eyes students are expandables.
