Good sense of humor, fair grader
He's funny and makes what would normally be a boring and stressful class interesting.
He's hot. He's sporty. He's leisurely. He's da bomb!
Awesome teacher. He makes the lectures interesting and fun to go to. Great sense of humor.
While the lectures were interesting and entertaining, I found the book to be poorly written and the tests to be abominably difficult, even after laborious and extensive study. There was a great deal of busywork.
This was a very difficult class, but he made it a fun to take.
Great lectures, but the tests are killer. Lots of busy work in labs.
Class was rewarding. It is a very hard class and really helps one dig deep into the Heritage of America. Proffesor Kimball's enthusiasm helps students get excited about the subject. The class is dang hard though no matter who you take it from.
This class was ridiculous. The lectures were interesting but the busywork assigned was atrocious. The tests were more trivial and the grading procedures were unfair. Avoid this course and take the Econ Poly Sci option. The TA's are horrible for the course
He made the lectures fun and interesting so i never wanted to fall asleep. on the downside the test were very hard i always felt like no matter how hard i studied it never helped. i didn't think the book was any help at all, just kept you busy.
Really hard class. Kimball makes a boring subject kind of fun. I learned a lot, studied at least 10 hours for each test, and only made a B. This class is really hard.
The work for this class was ridiculous. He was not a very interesting teacher. He would often poke fun and tease the students. If I am in class, I am there to learn, not be bothered by a dumb teacher. He was definately not a great teacher. His tests were terrible. I do not recommend him at all!!!
Great Professor. His lectures are great. The class is hard. The key is to take really good notes in class. I noticed that lectures were key. Also:study in groups. This is key.If you can get together in a small group and discuss the material, it makes it easier. This helped my roommate and I get A's.
Killer tests. Amazing lectures!!! Fun teacher, makes history interesting. Mark Patterson was the BEST TA ever! I learned a lot from Prof. Kimball- but he'll be the first to admit its a very demanding class and should be a 400 level.
Awesome teacher. Very Funny and you learn a lot too. You need to study, but nothing on the test is unexpected.
It's a shame that all of you people had to have Kimball for AHtg; large lectures and defined curriculum really are not his thing. I had him for a small history class on something he really loves and he's about the best you'll find at BYU or anywhere else, for that matter.
Excelent teacher. He knows his topic and makes it interesting. You will have to work in his class, but it is well worth it. I would highly recomend him for American Heritage or U.S. History
Kimball is one of my favorite teachers ever.He has a passion for what he does. I love the video clips he shows, because it really does help everyone understand better. And he is Hilarious!! I love his dry humor!! All of this makes him strikingly attractive, in a very Governmental Agent way (with the shaved head and dark rimmed glasses) Love him!!
The subjuct is just a hard subject no matter what, yet Kimball does a good job in presenting the material and does cover everything that he puts on the test. The class is hard, but kimball is a fair and good teacher. His classes are very enjoyable, just be ready to study.
I really enjoyed this class... he made is so personal and fun.. i would recommend him for any history class!
Prof. Kimball is such a great teacher. He makes the lectures so interesting. This class has been my favorite class, and I think a lot of it has to do with the way he teaches. The tests are hard, but just study a lot and you should be fine. My favorite class of all time!
Professor Kimball makes history come alive, with his dry humor, insightful video clips, and interesting lectures. His class is now one of my favorites!
He is a really good teacher. He cares that we all do well in the infamous American Heritage class. I love going to lecture because of his witty comments and humor. He knows his stuff.
Professor Kimball really makes boring stuff become interesting, and he relates it to our time with video clips and stuff, and i love that. funny guy too. great class
Kimball is AMAZING! If you need to take American Heritage... take it from no one else! He makes the class enjoyable and entertaining, yet so insightful!
Awesome teacher, didn't think I would like this class but I did. Definitely need to study though, to do well.
Awesome, awesome professor. Lectures were great and inspiring. Very smart and funny. As with most classes, if you study you'll do well.
Dr.Kimball is awesome. i loved his lectures, very entertaining and interesting.i loved learning from him. the class is very reading intensiveand has 4-5 essays and service..study hard and you'll do ok.don't let the ta s scare you..good luck!
Captivating and inspiring lectures. It's all powerpoint with many movie clips to demonstrate his points. GREAT class...study, go to lab, read the book and you will do fine. His LECTURES are amazing and I found myself leaving inspired as a better, more loyal person! he is also REALLY HILARIOUS! Sold 12 doughnuts to a class of 800...that was funny!
Everybody has to take A Htg, so take it from Dr. Kimball. Lectures are amazing! But be warned, tests are hard. Make sure you understand the concept behind the definitions. Go to lecture, lab, and stay on top of the reading. Make sure you understand the general concept of all his major points.
This was a great Class! The tests were hard, but luckly they are graded on a curve. Doctor Kimball is a great teacher and really knows how to teach. Great class. However, if you get a bad TA, transfer to a different section as a bad TA can make the lab experience miserable.
This class sucked. The first two tests were pretty hard, but the final was ridiculously impossible. My TA was horrible. She didn't know how to teach if her life depended on it. The lectures were ok, but overall... a horrible class. I learned a lot though. Don't take this class if you can help it. Take Poly Sci or something else instead.
This a killer class!! The lectures are enjoyable and the labs are easy points, but the tests are tricky and hard! If you are going to take the class be ready for extremely hard tests! Dr. Kimball is a nice guy with a great sense of humor. He makes the lectures fun!
Dr. Kimball was as good as I would expect an American Heritage professor to be. The class wasn't amazing, but I really enjoyed it. I wouldn't see any reason to avoid Dr. Kimball in any way.
Professor Kimball was probably the best Professor I've had. He is way awesome...hard class, but well worth it.
Great teacher. Teaches well, funny, and makes class interesting. You do have to work though.
Dr. Kimball is funny and smart, and his lectures are very good. However, American Heritage is just plain hard! The tests are difficult, but grades are on a curve. Go to labs-it's easy points. If you're going to take American Heritage I'd highly recommend Dr. Kimball.
Dr. Kimball was great. The lectures were interesting and worth attending. He is a funny and intelligent guy and is interested in your success. However, the class is difficult and the tests are hard. The final was pretty intense, but not impossible. This was a great class.
Prof. Kimball is a great lecturer, but this class is very difficult. I always enjoyed the class, but the tests were extremly difficult. Don't expect an A in this class.
Kimball was a fun guy. He made the class really interesting, but his tests are tricky. Multiple choice wasn't too bad, but the essays and ID questions require you to state every tiny little detail with exactness about every little thing or you get no points. Labs were ok, my TA wasn't the greatest. I'm pretty happy with my B.
If anyone watches Smallville and has a crush on Lex Luther, take Am. Heritage from Kimball! He not only looks very much like Lex, (especially at the distance which you'll be seeing him from) but he sounds a ton like him as he speaks too! He is way interesting and seems very smart. The tests were way hard, but I passed them, so they're doable.
Prof. Kimball is a great lecturer! I loved going to class. Be prepared to take a lot of notes. The tests are hard- the multiple choice isn't too bad, but the essays and identification questions are killer. My TA was ok, the class was ok, but Professor Kimball and his lectures were great! I ended up with a B-. Not too bad.
Dr kimball is a smart guy but that is all. his tests ask alot of opinionated questions that dont make sense. his essays are knickpicked to have to include every little detail. im just glad i passed the class and will never have to take it again. i suggest taking the alternative to having to take american heritage with him
The best lecturer I have had. Very funny; utilizes a lot of video clips to explain things; interesting material. I couldn't have hoped for better in professors. The key to getting a good grade in the class is simply being a good student; many do not do well because they are unprepared freshman. It will require effort!
I enjoyed the class and the lectures. Do your reading, go to your labs, set up study groups and you'll do fine. Dr. Kimball is funny, spiritual, helpful, always willing to answer your questions, and able to make hard concepts easy to understand. Take American Heritage from him and you'll be better off then others. It takes work, but this IS college after all.
American Heritage sucks, there is no doubt about it but since it's a GE there is no way out of it. However Prof. Kimball made it really enjoyable. His lectures were great, he's so funny and he kept me awake. The tests are hard, and really require a lot of work, it's also really helpful if you get a good TA. I feel like I learned a lot in his class
Dr. Kimball rocks my world! I loved this class SO much. His lectures are totally interesting, entertaining, and inspiring. I could not wait for lecture every week. He makes you want to learn. I changed my major to history because of him. Take A Htg and take it from Dr. Kimball. Do the reading, take good notes, go to TA reviews, and you'll be fine.
Hist 200 is a sucky class, but Kimball is great. I wouldn't take it from anyone else. He is really willing to help you in any way he can. He knows the class is hard, so he does his very best to help you survive and still get the skills you need. He is way funny and helps make the class less stressful.
The tests are hard, but I really always looked forward to coming to that class. He is very knowledgable and passionate about our history. I would definately recommend Dr. Kimball to anyone.
I hate history but Kimball made this class one of the best experiences i've had at BYU! I looked forward to every lecture and still apply what I learned in class. Definitely worth taking!
Dr. Kimball is an amazing teacher! He's a way funny guy and his classes are quite entertaining. If you need to take 200, he's one of the best. Not the easiest prof that I've ever had, but he definitely wants you to do well and does everything he can to help you.
Very tough class, with very tough grading of writing, but that is what the class is about. This class taken from any professor would easily have been very boring, but the readings that he chooses are very well written, and Professor Kimball is very entertaining. I went to talk to him several times and he was by far the most helpful professor.
This was an interesting class. The writing assignments were graded a little strictly but that's what the class is for. The readings were great! Never a dull moment in class. Great discussions!
Is Professor Kimball a commie? I swear the guy is out to convince his students that the USA isn't the greatest country in the world. This is BYU. We believe in God and Country. Not the propaganda of liberal profesors.
good teacher, tries to lighten up the class. Plays the devil's advocate a little too much, leaving the impression that somehow socialism and communism are superior ideologies than liberty and capitalism.
The class was somewhat of a disappointment for me. Dr. Kimball is very funny, but the class left me unsatisfied in learning. The midterm and final were both 95% based on the textbook; class time was almost a waste. The chapters in the book are too long to read completely, so use a study group before tests. First midterm timed. No long papers.
He is a very interesting teacher and is great to listen to for lecture. The textbook is necessary, especially when studying for tests but he gives you a study guide that really helps if you're willing to put in a little time.
The lectures were fun, but the tests were ridiculous. If year after year students average a score of 60%, it is not a well-written test. Also, my TA was terrible. A good TA can make all the difference!
Dr. Kimball is the best professor I have had at BYU. His lectures are interesting, he tries to keep the readings interesting, and he encourages questions and discussion. He is extremely helpful if you go to his office. Sports history was different than I expected, but definitely worth it.
SUPER hard class, study time for tests run about 5 hours. No joke. He's pretty entertaining as a lecturer, but my TA graded really hard on the essays and the average test score was about a 60%. This class is insanely hard. Unrealistically so.
excellent teacher. lectures were always interesting, tests were very fair. TA was helpful, but I think I would have just as fine with a crappy one. some people think this class is really hard. it's not. if you do the reading and take good notes in lecture, an A is very possible. previous experience with the material helps, ex. ap gov and ap econ
Kimball was an awesome professor. Just go to class and take good notes and study and you will do fine in his class.
He's very entertaining. The tests suck and don't truly show your comprehensive understanding of the course but lectures were fun.
way hilarious. way smart. and sometimes even inspirint :)
Bro Kimball is very entertaining and his lectures are interesting and clear. His tests are pretty difficult however...you MUST know the material thoroughly to do well on them. If you can handle a challenge, then Kimball's a good choice.
I did not miss a single lecture all semester. Funny thing is I didn't learn a thing from him. All he did for his lectures was go through a PowerPoint during which there were a lot of awkward silences. Thinks he is pretty funny, but he's really not if you think about it. Tests are TOUGH with averages around 55-60%. Try someone else.
Lecture is fun and you learn a lot. But I'll be honest. I am not a freshman, and I am on scholarship-I am not an idiot. But this course was the bane of my existence. I studied for hours and got 50% scores on tests...and that was above average. It's a 100 level class! I think there is a problem with the course. But the teacher and TAs are great!
this class is sooooo hard! if you think you're ready for the test, you're not. start studying way ahead of time and make sure to do the readings for the quiz, also a good TA can make a big difference!
This is a tough class but not impossible. If you take notes and do all the reading you will be fine. The review room is also available, I didn't need it but it was there to help. Dr Kimball keeps his lectures upbeat, a lot of video clips keep it interesting. Not a real heavy work load just weekly reading and a couple essays. Tests are challenging.
This class is pretty difficult. Tests are incredibly hard, but they get a little easier throughout the semester. Grades are based on a curve,so your 58 on a test will probably end up being a B. Read before lecture, and take lots of notes on the lectures and you should be able to pull at least a B.
I never read the textbook, but attended all the labs and lectures. The quizzes at the labs are easy if you read the textbook. The tests are tricky and I love history, but when the answer choices go up to j that's a bit ridiculous. It's a GE.
Dr. Kimball has very interesting lectures and I felt that I learned a lot from the class. However, his tests are ridiculously subjective. On most questions you have to think, "What does Dr. Kimball want me to think that he's thinking that I'm thinking that he's thinking?". The verbiage on the tests will trip you up.
Kimball is a great professor. He makes the class very interesting and enjoyable...take lots and lots of notes and pay attention, and you'll be good to go! You have to take the class, so take it from Kimball
Professor Kimball is very good. His jokes and media clips break up the monotony of lecture. He knows his history. The tests are not bad AS LONG AS YOU STUDY, but have a few subjective questions each. Some lame lazy people complain about the class and how hard it is but they don't study. Weekly quizzes come straight from the readings. Take Kimball.
Class was interesting and he was a nice guy. Moderate politically which was refreshing. Tests were hard but the curve straightened out grades. I would recommend him.
I took almost every class Dr. Kimball teaches because he made everything interesting, applicable, and yes--enjoyable. He does not give an easy A, but he does make striving for one as interesting and fun as possible. He brings out the best in students, and we love him for it.
It was a relief to have a teacher who was more moderate than conservative. The class was interesting overall. Kimball's lectures were funny. The TA lab was good, depending on your TA. The tests were hard and tricky though. Studying is mandatory.
Kimball's classes are interesting and fun to attend; he makes a lot of jokes. I do have a roommate that hates that, so if you're not into that, don't take him. He makes the information relatable with good examples and media clips. By the nature of the class, the tests are hard but if you take good notes from the book and lecture, you should be fine
Dr. Kimball is awesome! He is so funny, and he makes sure to explain everything really well. I enjoyed his class a lot, even though the tests were hard. He makes sure to explain every concept thoroughly and he's very open to questions. Great class, I would definitely recommend him as a teacher.
The lectures were entertaining. He does a good job of keeping you interested. The tests are impossible. But I think you will find that with all the American Heritage classes. I'd take it from him just so you can survive the lectures.
Ridiculous. his lectures were weird, and sometimes a little offensive. He wasted time trying to be funny and it was really hard comprehending anything that came out of his mouth. his tests are stupid. they are so hard. I only learned from the review sessions. i just did not think he was very good at teaching...
Dr. Kimball is HILARIOUS! I loved his class! He's easy to follow and he makes class interesting :).
The rumors are true; American Heritage is in no way an "easy" class. You must understand the concepts taught in class, but Professor Kimball teaches them in a way that students can understand. He uses object lessons, and he encourages questions. You must study outside of class to do good. Also, having a good TA can make all the difference.
horrible...he tried too hard to be funny and failed completely...his teaching style might be relevant for some but it put me to sleep because we accomplished virtually nothing in class. DO NOT take from him. a good TA is pretty much the only hope you have of succeeding
My favorite professor of the semester! Dr. Kimball is really funny, and I found his lectures extremely helpful. I would (and do) tell anyone to take American Heritage from him if they can. He is hilarious, but class was still extremely productive. This class isn't easy, but if you study and keep up on the reading you'll do fine.
Kimball is a great teacher, although he is a little intimidating. American Heritage is not as bad as everyone says. Just make sure you listen, take good notes, study hard and read the text. The review room is very helpful. I got an A. Those who complain how hard it is are those who put off reading, don't listen or freak themselves out about tests.
Great teacher, loved him. Very articulate and was always available for the students. The tests were really rough.
Horrible class. If you can think logically, you won't like this class. Tests are ridiculously hard and questions are biased. When reviewing your test all the TAs will tell you, "You should infer that from the textbook." When you read through your textbook, it is nowhere close to what was on the test. Professor is VERY liberal and pushes his agenda
Amazing class. His choice in books was excellent. Tough tests, but I learned a ton!
My favorite professor at BYU so far! Let me point out that I am a very average student, I'm not stupid, but no one would ever call me a genius. He was super clear to me and has fabulous video clips every lecture that really helped me get the point. As long as you go to any review your TA has and put in a decent amount of study time you'll be fine.
Powerpoints were not clear. He doesn't put enough details into his powerpoints and he doesn't post powerpoints online so dont miss class. Had to get help from TA's a LOT! Tests were INSANELY HARD! In my opinion the tests were unfair because he plays the "two answers are right, but one is better" game. To be honest, it's my least favorite class...
Prof. Kimball is a great lecturer. He has a unique sense of humor that is very fun. His tests are all MC and he teaches from the book. Go to TA lab and you'll be fine.
Dr. Kimball is a great teacher! He is interesting and engaging in his lectures. He does several object lessons in class that are really helpful. My advice: go to the American Heritage Review Room on a weekly basis! It is extremely helpful. Go to class and study. Test and quizzes challenge you but aren't impossible. Dr. Kimball is the best choice.
This class is pretty simple. Read the book and it will all be well. I never used the review room (except to get papers looked at) and I did really well.
Dr. Kimball is a really good professor as long as you read the book. Weekly quizzes in lab and 3 tests which are mostly lecture material. A couple of papers that aren't too bad but otherwise, a pretty easy class!
Professor Kimball is really funny. His lectures are pretty interesting. There are quizzes every week in lab that aren't bad as long as you do the reading. There are three papers that are pretty easy. The tests are impossible, so study hard even though you probably wont do that good. Go to class, do well on the quizzes and papers, and you'll be fine
okay here's the deal. You will learn a lot of interesting stuff, stuff that will never be on your tests. I could never figure out how to study for this class. Quizzes are fine, just read. Essays are fine too. Tests are a totally different story. I still got a B, but how I did is still unknown. Buena Suerte my good fellow students.
Professor Kimball is hilarious and brilliant. He always made class interesting, but lectures are mandatory if you want to do well on the tests. Book reading is pretty much optional..but I found that it helps a lot with the quizzes. I loved Kimball though!
Kimball is awesome! It is true that the material that you cover and read is not really what the tests are about. The class is brutal, but Kimball makes the lectures fun and entertaining.
Not as difficult as everyone makes it out to be. I got an A in this class. to do well on those "impossible" tests just study your notes along side your book. Great lectures and really knows his stuff. The tests are relatively fair, but the final was difficult. Use the review room if you suck at history
Loved going to class. I felt like the tests weren't what he said they'd be though. He said they would be mostly conceptual but I found that the second test had a lot of random facts that didn't seem important. Overall I liked the class and Dr. Kimball is awesome.
He's a good teacher and nice, but the class is pretty hard. Easier compared to the other AHTG classes though. Go to the Review Room.
American Heritage is going to be hard no matter who you take it from. That said, Kimball is a great professor, and his lectures are genuinely interesting. The only points in the class come from weekly quizzes, a couple essays, and the tests. Not easy to get an A in.
Professor Kimball keeps the class interesting and ties in some jokes here an there. By talking to other students, I've found that he has less reading assignments than other ahtg professors. You still learn a ton, and the tests are hard. I still would recommend him over the other professors because you learn so much but don't have quite as much hw.
This class is terrible, the TA's were useless. BUT! Kimball is the best American Heritage professor. I actually enjoyed lectures, he was interesting and hilarious. He is a good guy who is really pretty funny.
i found the lectures really interesting, hard tests though, go to the review room, it really helps!! Luckily i had the best TA though, sadly he this was his last semester so good luck! All the TA's are really helpful in the review room, if you go there every other day for the short overview of the lecture and ask questions you'll be fine :D
This class is hard, no matter who you take it from. Kimball makes lectures fun, interesting, and helpful. He is very willing to help you outside of class. The tests were not extremely difficult, except for the final which was terrible.
I. Freakin. Hated. This. Class. I passed... barely. He was probably the best professor, from what I heard. The class is just a killer though, no matter who you take it from. Unless you're a history freak. Lectures made sense, but the midterms were waaay ridiculous and difficult. Not just memorization. Go to the lab, TAs are willing to help. Blah.
Lectures were fun and interesting. Pay attention to video clips, which will have a couple questions on tests. Make sure you do the reading and you will be fine. TA reviews were helpful. It's really not as bad as everyone says if you do the reading and study.
This class was hard BUT Professor Kimball was very entertaining & he explained things well. Loved his class, Hated his tests! Going to Review sessions with TA's & doing well on reading quizes are important to pass the class. Books not really needed. but packet is a must.
I thought Dr. Kimball was kinda funny, although most did not. He is a good teacher, but the class is flawed from the start. I was getting As and Bs all year for the class but then got a D on the final. nothing prepares you for that. He didnt teach me anything i didnt learn in high school, but he is the better American Heritage teacher of the two
Kimball isn't the best professor, but he does try. His lectures are boring and easy to fall asleep in, but he does add dry humour here and there in an attempt to make things more interesting. On the papers, if you write in a view contrary to his, he will not give you a grade higher than 80%. Reading is also required, especially for essays
I thought Dr. Kimball was great. His lectures are funny and entertaining and usually pretty clear. His tests are easy if you prepare well for them. The class is interesting and you can tell he cares about his students and the subject.
By far your best bet for a great experience. This class isn't easy, but he definitely makes it enjoyable. Reflective paragragh on reading every class, and a HUGE paper. His grading is VERY fair, just make sure you take each assignment seriously and follow the guidelines he gives you. Great teacher that doesn't destroy your GPA
Worst professor ever! If you do the work, you can get a B, but it is absolutely impossible to get an A, as his philosophy is that there is always room for improvement. Even when I went into him and the TA I wouldn't get an A on a paper. Crazy guy.
A ton of work is involved in this class with hardly any pay off. It's impossible to get an A. But with that being said, his lectures are extremely interesting and I learned a lot.
Yes this class may be difficult. I heard how bad this class is but people give it a bad rep. If you go in with a good attitude you'll be fine. You have to apply what you learn so its more that just memorizing. Easiest was to study is to connect the lectures with your lab and also with the TA review lab then look at the book.
Professor Kimball's lectures were very good! I didn't mind his lectures, but the grading of assignments and the whole set up of American Heritage is horrible. Because you have to take American Heritage, hope you get Professor Kimball.
Great lectures. Dr. Kimball is funny and interesting and I really felt liked I learned in his class.
I am not a huge history person but I loved this class!! Attend lectures because everything is test material and go to the review room weekly. I had an awesome TA which helped. Read the text book because this is more than just memorizing. Hilarious man who is willing to help!! Definitely take Kimball for this GE.
He's a HILARIOUS teacher. Such interesting lectures. Reading the book will help when it comes to quizzes (these depend only on your TA, not on him). TA's are really the key to whether or not you have a good grade and that's just luck, but for a professor who only does lectures, he's the BEST. A boring topic but a captivating teacher. TAKE HIM.
American Heritage gets a really bad rap for being an impossible GE, and I have no idea why. If you do the reading (30 pages of easy textbook reading tops each week) the weekly quizzes are a breeze. Kimball's definitely a funny, entertaining guy and he makes the class interesting. Do your work and it's a fun and pretty easy GE!
Dr. Kimball is a good professor. Lectures are broken up by his sense of humor. He is a nice professor, and does a good job explaining things to us. I didn't like my TA though. He graded things really harshly. But the professor is a really great guy, and a decent teacher.
Phenomenal professor. The TAs grade everything, not him, but he prepares you very well for the essays, quizzes, and tests. His lectures are consistently engaging, though you won't necessarily care about the material after the course is over. Overall highly recommend him for American Heritage.
I really liked Dr. Kimball! Class is interesting and has variety. The tests were difficult so take advantage of the review room!
First of all, that picture of Dr. Kimball is hilarious, doesn't really look like him. Second of all, he is a very fun lecturer. He has the voice of Kronk mixed with Jim Gaffigan. This class was really easy, just do the readings and study your notes and you will ace the tests. The TAs are also very helpful in the review room.
I dunno why American Heritage gets such a bad rep...Maybe it's just Kimball who made it bearable! His lectures are very clear, just not terribly exciting at times. Do the readings and pay attention and this class is a breeze.
Dr Kimball's lectures are pretty entertaining and good and all that, but sometimes it seems like he is trying too hard to be funny. His powerpoints are worded vaguely which bugged me. His tests are pretty subjective but I heard every American Heritage class is like that. We only had to do two essays and then 10 service hours. Two midterms and final
Whoever gets Kimball when he teaches this class again is lucky! I had heard horror stories about this class, but Kimball made it as enjoyable and easy to understand as possible. Our class did MUCH better than the other class- he's a good teacher- but study and pay attention and you'll be fine! He generally cares about his students too.
Kimball is very funny and interesting to listen to. The textbook is used extensively, and reading is mandatory for quizzes and tests. The review room is free and proved to be very helpful for me. I've heard that Pope's class had to do way more reading than we did...
Kimball is an okay test. His lectures are kind of boring, especially because he tries so hard to be funny. He's not the most clear prof, but the class is okay. It really just depends on which TA you get - you need an easy one to get an A. I probably won't take from him again.
Grading in this class is a little tough, they expect a lot out of their students. However Dr Kimbal really does care about how his students do. There are MANY resources available just make sure you use them. He tries to make them interesting so pay attention and show up and you should do fine. Not a simple course but a good one and he's great!
It's a difficult class no matter who you take it from. Kimball's lectures are pretty entertaining. To do well you NEED to do all the readings. He also requires 10 hours of service.
Loved Dr. Kimball. His lectures were entertaining and it was easy to take notes. Study the lecture notes and key terms from the book for the tests. The essays sucked though and it was almost always impossible to make an argument within the word limit. Not hard to get an A though because the class is curved in the end (not sure by how much though).
This class was kind of a joke. Class is just dry lecture and discussion. You could almost learn everything we talked about in class from Wikipedia. Some of the books were interesting, but overall there is a ton of unnecessary reading. I enjoy sports, but the structure of the class make it a chore.
The lectures were presented well and for the most part I enjoyed going to class. Everything depends on who your TA is. They grade the papers and administer the quizzes. My TA wasn't great but the class was manageable, not as bad as its reputation.
The material covered in lecture is not enough, it must be supplemented by good reading of the textbook.
Professor Kimball was one of the least interesting professors I have ever had. His lectures were very boring and not clear AT ALL. It was very unclear what we had to learn for the tests, which were basically just memorizing random things he said in class one time. Do not take this class if you aren't willing to literally spend ALL of your time.
Professor Kimball's lectures are very straightforward and easy to understand. If you've ever taken any sort of US History class before, this class is a breeze as long as you do the readings.
I was terrified to take this class, but I loved it. Kimball was awesome, I loved his humor and his lectures are extremely straightforward. If you do your best, your guaranteed at least to pass. Fair and helpful teacher. I had a great experience. I'm glad I took it with Kimball.
Lectures with Dr. Kimball were fairly entertaining and insightful, however, the grading criteria was very vague. No study guides or grading rubrics for essays. I felt like I kind of had to guess how to get a good grade most of the time. Questions from Dr. Kimball can be very specific to lecture. If you don't take good notes, don't take this class!
Very knowledgeable and passionate about literature and the humanities. Helps you relate to "classic" literature more than you would otherwise by helping you determine where you stand on controversial issues and world politics.
So he did require a lot of reading (about 100 pages a week) for class, but honestly, I got an A by literally just paying attention to the lectures. I wasn't the most excited for this class, but he brought up some interesting questions and was very passionate.
I was nervous to take American Heritage, but it's my favorite class so far. Kimball's lectures are great; he includes movie clips to keep you interested and help you remember concepts. He's funny, too. Make sure you read the textbook or you won't do well on quizzes.
This class was not as bad as I have heard but everything was vague on grading and the tests were also very vague. You definitely need to read the textbook or there really is no way to do well. Doctor Kimball's lectures also sometimes goes over random things on the test so take good notes. Overall, I would have honestly preferred another professor.
I loved this class. It is not as hard as everyone says if you work for it. Kimball is great. He's funny and the lectures are amazing. It has been one of my favorites. You must come to class and read the textbook. He will test you on anything that he says. There are two short essays. There is some reading, but not a ton. Take this from Kimball.
I cannot recommend taking AH from Dr Kimball anymore! I was terrified to take this class and it was just fine with him. You LITERALLY have about 1/5 of the reading of most AH classes. He makes lectures easy, you have very few assignments, his tests are the easiest. The rest depends on your TA's grading style. TAKE IT FROM KIMBALL, I PROMISE!!
If you like dry humor, this is your guy. Absolutely hilarious. I can totally see why its not some people's thing. But for me, I am constantly chuckling in class. Tons of reading but its frontloaded. Intellectually engaging. Would recommend to any upper-level history major.
I had Kimball for my history of sports class and it has been my favorite class ever at BYU. The lectures were engaging and fascinating. There is a lot of reading, but the readings were actually interesting! Honestly, he's a great professor who really loves the subject matter (also, he's hilarious). 10/10 would recommend this class from him.
You know exactly what is expected in class, so there are no surprises. His tests and essays are reasonable. You will have to read a good 3 books front to back in his class, but they are really interesting. Dr. Kimball is hilarious, and he loves helping students outside of class. Pretty relaxed, low key style of lecture because of small class size.
Dr. Kimball is one of the best History professors I have ever taken. Although you mainly talk to the TAs, he cares about his students. To do well in this class you need to take notes in lecture and need to read the textbook. The review lab in the library is also very helpful. Don't be scared of ATHG, there is so many rescources! Take from Kimball!!
I LOVE prof. Kimball. He is so funny and makes America Heritage enjoyable. I have heard from others that he is better than the other A.H teachers. I actually enjoyed the class because he showed videos and had good lectures and threw in bits of humor. 10/10 recommend taking American Heritage from him!
I really enjoyed taking AHeritage from Dr. Kimball. The course is super interesting and different form any other USHist class I had taken before. The assignments are straightforward and super important. The weekly quizzes were always harder than I expected and you really need to study for tests. Know the material inside and out! Take Dr. Kimball!
Dr. Kimball was really great at teaching and making lectures interesting. I really recommend him for an overall AHTG course, but the rest of it really depends on your TA. The tests are hard and you really have to know your stuff, there's a ton of readings, and the lab quizzes aren't that easy either. This course is just unnecessarily difficult.
This is a very reading-heavy class. Make sure to do the readings and study a lot otherwise you won't get the grade that you want. Professor Kimball is wonderful and very interesting in lecture.
This course gets alot of flack, but I would 100% recommend it from Professor Kimball. You have weekly TA labs, so your TA determines alot of your experience too, but Professor Kimball did a great job of being engaging and tackling political and historical content sensitively. His lectures are actually pretty engaging.
I loved Professor Kimball as a person but I feel like he was intentionally making the class harder than it needed to be. The content is really interesting and I liked most of the readings but the tests were significantly harder than the quizzes or anything. Definitely do all the readings and show up to class. Also pay close attention to film clips.
Kimball is great but the exams were horrible. I would spend hours going to the review room, attend all lectures, study the readings every week and take notes, go to the lab, and still fail the exam. This class ruined my mental health since I stay up for hours every night studying and putting in so much effort for it not to reflect on my grade..
Lectures can be a bit boring but he explains concepts well, has the least amount of HW from the A HTG professors to my knowledge, and looks like Thanos. Definitely take it from Kimball if you can.
If you have to take American Heritage, take it from Dr. Kimball. He has good lectures, and as long as you do ALL the readings and study, you can do fine in this class. Doing the readings and studying for tests is VITAL.
Dont let this class scare you! I did it on top of a heavy course load and did well, just make time to have study groups and GO TO THE REVIEW ROOM AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE! lectures are great, make sure to take notes on his side comments because theyll show up on exams. Its really truly not as bad as everyone says.
I adored Prof. Kimball. I loved his class, it was so interesting and I looked forward to each lecture. It was very challenging come midterms and finals, and if you want a good grade you'll need to do some hardcore study-grinding. However, it was also my favorite class this semester, and I'd definitely recommend Kimball to anyone taking AHTG 100.
This was such a hard class mostly I think because you have to read so much, and you don't have very many assignments, so small quizzes and such are heavily weighted in my opinion. Super funny teacher tho! Just read the materials and STUDY GROUPS!
American Heritage gets a ton of smack talk, but Dr. Kimball was extremely organized, clear, and usually entertaining to listen to. I never felt confused, and if I did there were many resources to help. I enjoyed every one of his lectures. Exams are TOUGH, and nobody gets full credit on essays either. But if you can take AHTG from him, do it.
Though my grade wasn't great it could have been worse. Take this from Kimball because I heard the other professor requires you to write more essays. For the daily reading quizzes take notes of your readings and study them before attending lab. It's a tough class. The material covered is actually really cool and interesting. Be prepared the class.
Professor Kimball is a really good teacher. He keeps class entertaining by applicable examples and stories and kept us laughing all the time. Tests are really hard, but there is a sizable curve at the end of the semester. Doing the readings is pretty important. Go to TA review room!! Makes all the difference.
AHTG100 is a tough class, but Dr. Kimball makes it fun. He tries to make jokes which are sometimes a bit awkward, but it makes lecture interesting. He's not great at understanding questions posed to him by students. Very organized and clear in his teaching, and the 5 question weekly quizzes aren't terrible if you read + pay attention in lecture
Kimball was a pretty good professor. The problems with American Heritage all come from AHTG department. Class material is actually, I dare say, interesting. More philosophy than history. But the way the class is structured, graded, and tested is ridiculous. Way too much work, too strict, and unrealistic expectations. But that's not Kimball's fault.
I loved how Dr. Kimball taught this class. I don't like history, but I really liked this class! I learned so much. The tests werent easy, but I managed to get a B each time from skimming notes and what my TA said I should study. And the curve is really nice! Kimball doesn't give a lot of reading too, and honestly that just made the class
I would take American Heritage again just to be in this class! I loved Kimball and found class super interesting and engaging. Tests are typical to other professors so just take Kimball. Lectures were interesting and he loves to include movie clips to get his point across. Pay attention in lecture, ask questions in lab, study, and you'll do good.
Reading in this class is spread very unevenly. The tests covered irrelevant material. The content is interesting and important, but the tests are discouraging. No matter how hard you study, you are going to struggle. The quizzes are okay as long as you do the reading, but some TA's make them unnecessarily difficult.
This class was extremely hard. Three 600 word essays, 10 hours community service, readings for each class, quizzes each week in lab (not too hard if you do the reading), tests are all multiple choice but very difficult and heavily effect grade. Pay attention in class b/c things he says will be on test. Go to the Review Room. Kimball > Pope.
Everyone says American Heritage is crazy hard but it isn't too bad with Dr. Kimball! He's a really great lecturer and explains ideas clearly. Not too much homework but doing the all of the readings will go a long way. Weekly quizzes (not too hard). The TA's are super helpful! The review room pretty much guarantees an A. I learned a ton!
Dr. Kimball is a solid choice. Of course the class is hard, but so are all the classes at BYU. Just study and read the textbook. The other professor, Pope gives way more homework but I think Kimballs tests may be slightly easier. Kimball curved the class heavily, so you should be fine. Dont stress, American Heritage is not as hard as ppl say.
The grading on the essays was a little harsh-but those were graded by TA's. The class was also curved at the end.
I don't have anything against Professor Kimball. He was great! I just strongly dislike how difficult BYU makes American Heritage. I had two scholarships and nearly lost them both purely because of this class, so I withdrew. Quizzes and tests are so specific. If you don't intensely study every single reading and lecture, you likely won't succeed.
He has some of the lectures I have ever been to, super funny and super engaging. He is super passionate about what he was teaching. The tests were super hard, but they grade on a curve, which can be helpful. It was a super large class, but the recitation labs made it bit better. Overall, really solid professor.
Would highly recommend this class. AH isn't as hard as people work it up to be, Professor Kimball didn't have me stressing about too much. Just make sure you attend class, read for essays, and do a study review for an exam, then its an easy A. Kimball himself is rather odd in a good way and his lectures were always interesting.
Professor Kimball is the best lecture professor for american heritage. The class wasn't as much of a bear that I thought it would be. Just go to the review room everyday, rewrite your notes, read the articles and just be a good student that wants to learn. Your Ta will make or break the class if you don't go to the review room. It is so helpful!
All AHTG classes are structured similarly, but I don't think you'll find a better professor to take it from than Kimball. He's super funny, has engaging lectures, and has content that feels really important outside of the class. I only bought the CH textbook and was able to find most of the other readings on course reserve/online for free.
I personally hated this class but Professor Kimball was very nice. He gave interesting lectures and was easy to follow. American Heritage is annoying no matter what, but that's not his fault.
I really liked Professor Kimball. He was a great teacher and had very engaging lectures. I know a lot of people hated American Heritage but he made the class enjoyable. I would definitely recommend taking it from him. I also would recommend going to the American Heritage Review Room. It is super beneficial and helps to solidify your understanding.
Kimball was a great professor. His lectures were interesting and easy to follow. American Heritage has a bad reputation but with Kimball it was a lot better than I was expecting. He made a difficult class more enjoyable.
Great Professor! Loved the class
Kimball had good lectures and was hilarious but this class is ridiculous for it to be a GE. The TAs even told us that only 20% of students end up with an A in the class. No matter how hard you study, you never know if you're prepared for the tests. TAs also make or break the class/review rooms, so if you get a bad one, good luck.
Kimball was fun, but I felt that his exams were very subjective and unfair. Go to the review room to understand how they want you to think about the concepts. It isn't a very straightforward class. There were random grades assigned to the essays with little to no feedback.
Professor Kimball gave engaging lectures and I feel like the essays and readings were a reasonable amount of out-of-class work. If you're taking this class, definitely make time to go to the TA reviews, they hold multiple every day in the library.
Dr. Kimball is a great teacher and good at explaining the concepts, although it is a tough class. Weekly quizzes on the readings (LOTS of readings), 3 short essays, and exams are very difficult. The material is interesting but I had to study a lot! TA's are very helpful, and I was grateful for the curve at the end of class.
I went in expecting the class to be super hard, but it wasn't too bad. Make sure to keep up with assigned readings and pay attention to lectures. The only homework we had was the readings and a few papers that weren't super long. Only negative was that he would ask some questions on the test about specific details from videos we watched in class.
Professor Kimball was amazing! This was my favorite lecture to attend. The weekly reading quizzes were the class's most difficult part, at least for me. A few of your quiz scores get dropped though. The papers are short but require reading. If you work hard, study, take notes, and use the TAs you'll be just fine! TAKE KIMBALL!
I really liked Kimball, his lectures were engaging and organized. He's kind of funny too. But, his tests were unreasonably hard. I thought I did great on everyone but failed everyone. The curve saved my grade. Tips: Go to review rooms, study A LOT, do the readings(and understand them) and pray for a good TA. AHTG is hard though so Good Luck!
I LOVED PROFESSOR KIMBALL. I always heard that American Heritage was a BEAST, but I loved it, and I think it was all thanks to Kimball. He was kind, funny, and always had captivating lectures. He is incredibly smart and is able to explain complicated concepts in an understandable way - and he's hilarious. I would take American Heritage again.
Terrible class. Good Person. He is a nice funny guy but this class made me hate learning about American history. I love history and passed the AP US history test but couldn't figure out this class. I never missed a lecture did every bit of reading and studied alone and in study groups, but I never was able to get a test score over 70%.
Obviously AHTG is a hard course at BYU, but he assures you that you will leave with at least a C. The TA access is amazing and helped so much. I think he is the easiest AHTG professor you can get, basically memorize the lectures and go to the TA reviews and you are set. 11/10 would suggest.
I had a great experience with AHTG, Professor Kimball was great! Hilarious lectures, 5-point quizzes every week in lab. The three essays and the tests comprised most of the grade. Study hard and set aside time for the readings, but if you take advantage of the TA lab throughout the semester as well as before the tests, you should be set.
Professor Kimball does an excellent job of making class engaging and funny, especially knowing that no one really wants to take American Heritage. There is a lot of reading - that won't change based on the professor, and he does put a lot of questions on the tests from the videos he shows. If you go to TA Review room then you'll be set.
Love the lectures for this class. They are pretty entertaining and he's a funny guy. The readings can be a bit strenuous with two different textbooks but if you get behind on them it doesn't really matter as long as you do them before quizzes and tests. The tests are pretty difficult but the going to the TA lab definitely helps.
% of grade: Exams-65%, Essays-22%, Weekly Quizzes-13%. Requirements of the 3 essays, 500 words: 10hrs of service, read 12 different articles, read Frederick Douglass. 2 required Textbooks, lots of reading. No study guides for exams, basically expected to know everything. There are TAs & a Review Room to help, but I prefer not to be there 24/7
I mean... it's American Heritage. Terrible class. But Professor Kimball was funny and the lectures weren't complete torture. He was respectful and overall a good guy.
Honestly, I have been very afraid of this class and have put it off to my Junior year. It was not as bad as I expected it to be, however, if you do not have a significant amount of time allotted for studying, I would advise taking it a different semester. Tests are tricky and so are the quizzes taken in lab each week.
Kimball was pretty interesting but the class itself isn't too bad...every lab you take a 5 point quiz and there are 3 short papers. The tests are definitely difficult and there aren't a lot of resources- no study guides and TA's are usually unavailable or just don't explain concepts well. Overall participate and read the textbook and you'll pass
As an international student, American Heritage is way too hard for a GE. And if I am being honest, neither of the lectures or the TAs were helpful at all. Also, the readings are SO long it usually takes me hours and hours trying to get through & understand it. There are two midterm exams and a final exam, and they are all too hard and unnecessary.
I love Kimball with my whole heart!!! Nicest and funniest professor I've ever had, he is so sweet but this class is HARD. Lots of reading and very vague tests and little resources. Pope's class is 100% more difficult, without a doubt take it from Kimball!!!
Take this class from Dr. Kimball!! I absolutely loved this class and Dr. Kimball's lectures are really good. Prepping for midterms and finals was a little hard but as long as you take advantage of the TA lab you'll do fine! Make sure you do the readings since there are weekly quizzes in lab and you are curved against those with the same TA as you.
Phenomenal professor and amazing course! American Heritage is rumored to be difficult, but I promise it is worth the time. I didn't find the content itself particularly difficult, just the work load for those who are unmotivated. Professor Kimball was hilarious in lecture while making sure we get down all of the most important concepts.
American Heritage is a very difficult class, but compared to the other professors, you want Kimball! He was very entertaining and you can tell he is passionate about what he does. Missing lectures is hard but they aren't boring. The papers are graded by your TA and none of them were long. If you go to the review room you will do well on the tests.
Dr. Kimball made me look forward to every lecture. He made the material entertaining and engaging. American Heritage is not as hard as people say if you attend the T.A. reviews two or three times a week. When combined with a strong understanding of the reading, these can almost guarantee your success in the class.
Professor Kimball is AMAZING! His lectures were entertaining and you can tell he is passionate about what he is teaching. The tests were really hard, but there are TA review rooms that can help. I didn't do a lot of the readings, but if you do the assigned readings you should be fine on the quizzes and tests. I loved this class!
Dr. Kimball is awesome. His lectures are very engaging and really focus on valuable content, despite this class material being very broad. The TA reviews are VERY helpful, and studying lots for the test is necessary to succeed, but this class is certainly doable. It is graded on a curve, so only the top 10% or so in your lab get an A.
Such a good professor! Lectures are interesting, engaging, and fun. The midterms/final are hard, and even harder to prepare for, but take good notes and do the reading and you'll leave the class feeling fulfilled!
Dr Kimball was a good professor for this subject, but American Heritage is notoriously hard and his tests and assignments are harder than they needed to be. He grades on a curve so there are only so many good grades he'll give out. If you want to do well with him, stay up on the reading and go to the Review Room as often as possible.
This is probably one of the best professors I have ever had. Dr. Kimball manages to make his classes intriguing, informative, and make you want to learn more. Whether you're fond of history or not, you will find his lectures interesting. The class is difficult, yes, but the curve is super helpful. He's a great guy and I'm sad to leave his class.
best american herritage teacher. the readings are brutal and weekly quiz was impossible. tests werent too bad as long as you pay attention in class. be ready to take good notes in lecture and come every time. only two big papers that were short. he was so funny, lectures were almost always engaging even though its a boring subject.
Kimball was fine, lectures were ok but the tests were ridiculous. I did really well on all of my quizzes and assignments... they were actually pretty easy but the grade is so heavily based on the impossible exams that it is hard to actually succeed.
Our TA told us in the first lab we would be "competing against each other." Took this class as a junior and it made me lose my 4.0 (I'm a pre-med/STEM major). Kimball was nice and his lectures were interesting but there were no study helps for exams and the amount of irrelevant readings was ridiculous. BYU needs to figure this whole AHTG thing out.
Great lectures, always had a good time. Reading is so important and the tests are wordy and hard to understand. But, overall it was a good class.
Dr. Kimball's lectures are awesome. He's hilarious while also getting the concepts across. The class is curved between all the students in your TA's labs. There is a lot of reading in this class, but actually doing the readings and going to the TA reviews as much as possible will help so much.
Kimball was funny and lectures were entertaining. If you have to suffer through american heritage, definitely take it from Kimball. Overall the class was interesting and just lots of reading, but the tests were crazy hard. In labs TA's tend to say "this answer is right but there is a better one" so tests were hard to get good at.
If you take this class from Kimball, it will be one of the best classes you take at BYU. I never understood why AHTG gets such a bad wrap; his lectures were really entertaining and well explained, and I was always aware of the expectations. Sure, it's a lot of work and study, but I honestly enjoyed most of it.
Kimball is the professor you want for American Heritage. Yes, American Heritage is hard, but only because of the tests. The curve will help. I got 78, 72, and 79 on the exams, and I ended with a B+. There are a lot of readings that are important for tests. Kimball is hilarious. Study groups will save you. Only 3 papers: less than 600 words.
Professor Kimball is the one you want to take American Heritage from. I dreaded taking this class and took it my senior year and it wasn't bad at all. Kimball is engaging in his lectures and is a really kind guy. The only thing to note is that TAs make a big difference so hopefully you get a great one!
I took American Heritage my freshman year (unfortunately), But I am so glad I took it from Kimball! All essays only need to be 500 words and his lectures were surprisingly entertaining. TA's can be really hit or miss so taking really good notes is very beneficial in the long run. Overall great class.
The class was not hard--the grading was hard. AH was one of my favorite classes I've taken, and Kimball was an entertaining and phenomenal teacher. Most people's grievances come with how hard things are graded, which is true. But if you really try on your essays and ask for feedback before turning in, go to test reviews, you can get an A.
Professor Kimball is the best. I've never liked history, but I thoroughly enjoyed his lectures. That being said, the class is hard! I went to every TA review, throughly did the readings, studied for hours, and was still not able to get an A. I wouldn't recommend taking this as a freshman, but when you do take it, take it from Kimball and work hard!
Dr. Kimball is one of my favorite professors overall and really makes the class worth taking. My roommates had Pope, and while they had only complaints for AHTG, I found myself sad when the class was ending. Just stay on top of the readings and go to a TA lab when you don't understand something, and enjoy the lectures, cause Kimball's hilarious.
I absolutely LOVED this course with Professor Kimball! He is ridiculously entertaining but clearly knows his stuff. While there were a ton of readings, they are totally doable if you don't push them off. Go to the TA for extra review and you will be good. Take from Kimball!!
ATHG is a lot of memorization and not necessarily in a fun way. I didn't do a single reading but attended every lecture and took good notes. Go to the TA reviews for the tests and do not procrastinate on studying or the essays and you will be fine. Would definitely take from Kimball though (but maybe not freshman year like I did)!
The class is too hard for a GE. While people have complained that AHTG is conservative propaganda, I felt like he was a fair professor who didn't attempt to make excuses for slavery like some might. But, the class is horrible. Hours of reading. The amount of times in test review when they said "this answer is correct but not what he's looking for"
Professor Kimball's AHTG100 is challenging but rewarding. His engaging lectures, TA support, and unstuckstudy AI made the workload manageable. While the grading is strict, staying on top of readings and study sessions can lead to a great grade.
I thought this class was super fun and that Prof Kimball was great. He's a pretty nice guy and once you understand his style of humor, you realize he is hilarious. As long as you do the readings and come to class, it isn't that difficult. He isn't a tough grader but there are multiple long readings in this class.
Loved this class! He is extremely funny and really loves sport history. 10/10 would recommend. You read three books and the tests are reasonable.
Exams worth more than 65% of your grade is diabolical. Been here five years, this is easily one of the worst three classes I've ever taken
Insanely test-heavy!!!!!
Dr. Kimball was hilarious and entertaining in a really dry way. There is a mountain of reading, which is really good to do but just attending lecture he basically tells you everything he wants you to know. Doing really well with taking notes in lecture will get you a decent enough grade. Really not too bad of a class.
A HTG gets a bad rap, but honestly it's overstated. It's not that bad with Dr. Kimball, you can definitely get by only by going to lecture and doing zero readings, it's just that the tests are a little hard and heavily weighted. Anyone claiming this class is right wing propaganda is just plain wrong, quite the opposite. A few essays, weekly quizzes
I think anyone that has anything bad to say about Professor Kimball probably just has an animosity against American Heritage. Professor Kimball was super funny and made lectures super interesting and engaging. This class isn't super demanding assignment-wise, do the readings and go to lecture. The exams are the hard part, get ready to study hard.
Professor Kimball made American Heritage bearable. He's super funny and I found it easy to pay attention to him. There is a lot of reading though… like a lot. But as long as you don't procrastinate you should do fine
Listen up everyone! If you're going to take A HTG, take it with this man! I'm an international student and had to learn 90% of this stuff for the first time, but Dr. Kimball made the lectures entertaining and fun and I enjoyed learning because of him. Sure, the readings are alot, but that's why you have review rooms to help you understand them
As a junior, I found Kimball's class to be manageable. If you want to do well in this class though, you really need to do the readings, go to lecture, and take good notes. (Expect about 2-3 hours of reading per week.) We had weekly quizzes on the readings in lab, two required films, and three papers. We also had to do 10 hours of community service.
Professor Kimball was amazing! His lectures were engaging, and he obviously loves American History. I absolutely loved taking this class from him and felt so engaged and connected to the past. The essays were tough, but if you do the readings for them, you will be okay. Focus on understanding major concepts, and you'll be alright!
Get prepared for lots of reading and taking dense notes during lectures. The TAs and review rooms are the saving grace of this class, if you want a good grade you HAVE to attend those to really understand the material. The exams are test heavy but with lots of studying and understanding what he's looking for they are doable. Def recommend Kimball!!
Explains concepts in a way that really makes sense. There's a LOT of reading, three papers (including a semester-long service project), two midterms, and a final. He wants you to succeed. My TA at least was great, and so were the TA labs, so I think he teaches them well. Study early and with a group. Participate in lectures - it makes his day.
I was scared for this class but it was actually great. Loved what I learned. It requires a lot of work, but it never felt too overwhelming. Pay attention to lectures, both what he says and the slides. Pay attention to the readings. Take good notes. Go to review room!! I did all that and studied and ended with an A. Dr. Kimball is great and fun.
Dr Kimball is a nice guy. He's always willing to take questions on lecture and discuss test questions on his office hours. If you're an international student, register for the International only session. TA lab attendance is a must, the quizzes aren't enough to prepare you test. Ask ChatGPT to make practice tests with the content, trust me.
If you are taking the history capstone and are interested in sports, Professor Kimball is the guy to take it from. There is always a lot of participation in class and time to listen to not only each other, but advice other students have for you. He loves what he does and makes sure to always leave good feedback to help your success!
