FASCINATING. never looked at my watch in class, except the time i had to tinkle.
Not what the philosophers say. What HE SAYS the philosophers say. Bad grader.
Not at all stuffy. A real guy. Entertaining.
Do not take him for Ethics, it is more work than it is worth, grades hard
good teacher, study and you should get an A
He's on my favorite man list. Uses great, humorous examples when lecturing. His lectures are enjoyable.

Not as hard as everyone says. You just have to memorize the notes.
fun classes, especially if you like to talk about the stuff in class. tests can be hard, or easy, depends on how much you like to memorize notes. but if you have problems go talk to him. he's cool
People who are not into Philosophy might find him way too challenging, but if you are interested in the subject, you will never find a more knowledgeable, insightful, and humorous teacher. He seriously is one of the smartest people I know.
quite simply, the best professor i have ever had in either undergraduate or graduate school. you have not lived unless you have taken political philosophy.
Fun class if you can get into it, he makes it really clear what is going on and encourages arguments against the ideas being expressed.

The best prof. i've ever had! he makes class challenging and interesting no matter what the topic, while managing to keep you laughing at the smae time. i've taken him twice and plan on taking him again. his tests are tough, but it's worth it.
Dr. K is awesome! Very helpful and approachable and very fair.
Even if you understand every concept, you'll do badly if you can't memorize everything. Many a retarded hilighter-wielding Ed major have gotten A's where those who understand the material were left with C's. Take him for good lecture, but audit his class

Such a nice guy. Very challenging, you have to memorize notes for the test. Encourages class discussion, has a great sense of humor. Very helpful, wants to see us do well. Great teacher, very knowledgeable, take him.
Dr. Klonoski is the man. One of my favorite professors. Ethics was an excellent course. Class was great. Test were short answer/essay. Memorization is important for tests. Class material is enlightening, especially epicurus and epictetus.
Tests are NOTHING like the course material, expect to talk about concepts in class and have fantastic discussions and then take unbelievably detailed tests that have absolutely nothing to do with what was actually covered in class.
He Sucks..
Even though he hooked me up major on my final grade...even if i got a C I still would give him a great rating. YES he's incredibly hard, but you learn so much from the man, if he knows you're trying, he'll do his best to help you. Great professor
He is very nice. Very intense over intersession. Unfair grader.
will do anything to help you!
Awesome professor. Tests require a lot of preparation and lectures go pretty in depth, but if you put some effort into it, his class is very rewarding. I loved it, his sense of humor is great and he's always willing to help you. Take him if you can!
One of the best people I've ever met in my life. This guy is a great professor who challenges his students rather than just listening to himself talk. A very rare find in these parts...
Great professor and class. Tests are hard, but if you take good notes and study well, you should do fine on the tests. You'll learn and think a lot in his class. Not the professor to take for an easy A, but worth it if you want to learn something.
Dr. Klonoski is awesome- one of if not the best teachers I've had hear, devoted to students and interested in their development, and really knows his stuff. He's really down to earth and really funny, one of my favorite professors to talk to.
A real teacher. Not at all easy. Real students won't at all mind though. Seems to be a guy who walks the walk.
Best teacher I've ever had. He's amazing! He really knows the material and makes it so interesting. You can tell he really cares about his students. His tests are difficult, but if you take good notes and do the reading, you'll be fine.
Dr. Klonoski is AMAZING. I had him in 2001 - my senior year - and I still relate my life to his class. I learned more from him than any other SJLA professor. His class is very relevant and he is always there with an open door to help you.
i agree, great professor, take him
Examples are disturbing at times. is very funny and casual, tests are HARD, approachable, easy to talk to, very bad grade scale.
Apologies to FRON, but I think Dr. K is the BEST prof in the SJLA program! Helpful, entertaining, and informative: his class has it all. Can't wait to take his class again!
Very nice and funny guy. Very good teacher. Delivers and explains the information well. Great class until you take the tests. They are SOOOO HARD!!! If you are worried about GPA don't take him.
The best teacher I have ever had. Extremely clear with what he expects and the subject matter. Very hard if you don't want to pay attention. Put effort into the class and he will change your life.
The best teacher I have ever had. I love his class. You need to pay attention in his class and you'll be fine. He made the material very understandable. Tests are not hard. Definitely take him, he is the best.
As someone who didn't like philosophy before, I found this class amazing! He is a great teacher who is very informative and really knows the material. I will take the lessons I've learned from this class with me wherever I go! Definitely worth taking, I highly recommend! You won't be sorry!
Rick is the man. He tells you flat out what you need to do with every assignment to get through it. IF you prepare for every class and for the tests they are pretty easy. He gives the essays beforehand so you can always get the answer first.
Class is hard to pay attention in, Tests are extremely difficult--study hard. Do not, I repeat do not ever talk in his class unless spoken to by him--he is the only prof. to ever kick out an SJLA student for talking. Be careful, take good notes...B to B+ is normal (he has a bad grading scale)
Klonoski is the man. Excellent teacher in the true sense of the word. This is my 2nd semester taking him and I have learned so much from him to take into the world with me. What a dude! I want to be him...

great class for seniors only...a teacher who cares. enough said.
Ethics...loved it, needed to take another...took friendship, phenominal teacher, related to every one in the class, cute dumb girls, jocks, nerds...awesome guys like me!! Awesome family, love his daughter, he let us study in his house...didn't make me feel weird at all...felt totally comfortable in a teachers house...how cool is that.Loved your daughter Dr K...but I had too much respect for ur teaching style, to ask her out...I knew you had an agenda when u were teaching me ethics!! Ur awesome, man thanks
I had absolutely no interest in taking this class, but he made it easy to handle.
Dr. Klonoski is among the best professors I've had so far. He is funny and interesting, and genuine. He seems like he actually lives what he teaches. I enjoyed him a lot and would recommend to anyone that they take him.
I personally was not into the class. He grades very hard (Don't be surprised to end with a C+). His tests are like 17 essay questions, and your hand will fall off after the test. It was an experience, and I learned a few things, but i doubt that i would take him again.
I took him back in the day for ethics and he was a great teacher. Very smart, interesting class, wrote great recommendation letter for med school, and he was one of the hottest profs at Scranton!!!
i absolutely love him. he's so funny and interesting. need to study to do well on his tests, but if you take good notes you'll be fine. highly recommended
Dr. kolonski is very nice and he is funny in class. it is extremely important that you go to class. if you take good notes and study them very well you will do great on his tests. the tests are all essay and your had is ready to fall off when you're done but i enjoyed his class alot! i would recommend him!
Dr. Klonoski is great. He mixes serious discussion and (usually relevant) humor so well, and he's great at both. He makes sometimes boring material really interesting, and his tests are somewhat predictable, albeit involving a ton of writing. Really personable guy.
Fantastic
Most enjoyable class I've ever taken, and by far my favorite teacher. Take him to feel as if you've learned and grown more in one class than all your others combined. Reasonable grader, very wise, and yet very down to earth.
Dr. Klonoski engages the class in meaningful discussion. Most students seemed to enjoy the lectures. Be prepared to know every single detail for the exams, which are all essays. His grading scale is a bit messed up. But overall, he's a solid professor and the class is great. Take him if you have the opportunity.
I love him! The classes are interesting but make sure you do the reading. Know everything for his all essay tests and you'll do fine. The grading scale's a little screwy, but if you read, pay attention, and take amazing notes you'll be just fine. He hints at/emphasizes what's on the test during class so pay attention!
This was a community outreach class for adult non-phil majors. Prof. Klonoski kept discussion moving and on target. I even found a new philosopher whose writings I like.
Possibly the best teacher at this university (which is saying a lot). He leads meaningful discussions and is a great contemporary connector while also engaging the philosophical tradition through a careful review of primary sources. He is a true philosopher and outstanding professor. I also recommend him for Ethics and Philosophy of Friendship.
I thought Klonoski was an amazing teacher. Hes a great guy who always keeps class interesting. I absolutely love the class and im hoping to take him again for ethics next semester. definitely recommend.
I had Dr. Klonoski 30 years ago. It's great to see that students still love him. He was fun, interesting, fair and caring then and seems to be now. Also, back then, he was hot. I've earned 2 master's degrees and a D.Ed. and he was one of the best.
He was good but not as good as what I was told.
Tough grader.
I had Dr. Klonoski for Intro to Philosophy! I didn't want to take it being it is a requirement and I am a science major, but I absolutely loved his course! He made it so interesting and by the end I was understanding the readings better than on day one. I always looked forward to his class. Great, great professor. Probably the best at the U.
I worked really hard studying for the tests and couldn't get anything higher than a C. He's interesting and the class isn't too bad he's just a really tough grader.
he's a really nice guy, he's just a really tough grader he's the only one that teaches SJLA ethics and it shows because he treated my regular ethics class like an SJLA one. he isn't much help either because he just says that everything is in his readings or the lecture which it is but it might was well be in greek but it makes no sense
This class was SO hard. he's a really nice guy, and is incredibly smart, but can't help you if you dont understand it. I worked so hard for every test, and didn't do well on most of them. There are only 4 or 5 tests in the whole class and they get harder as you go. Don't take him unless your extremely interested in the subject
Dr. K is one of my favorite teachers ever. Granted his class isn't very easy and he is a bit of a tough grader, he will teach you some amazing stuff. Highly recommended to anyone with a good work ethic. If you prepare for the tests a good amount you should do fine.
Took him for intersession. Really simplifies things for you and makes it clear what is important. Tests were very easy if you just study the notes and readings. Nice guy if you get to know him as well.
I LOVED HIS CLASS! He explains everything in ways that I would have never understood them. He is extremely intelligent and puts really hard subjects into its simplest terms. His tests can be challenging, however if you re-read the text and take good class notes you will do well. He makes philosophy extremely interesting and fun.
TAKE THIS GUY! Dr. Klonoski is the best teacher I've ever had and he's extremely relateable. He breaks down even the most difficult topics so that you can understand them. I'm a science major and he really made me enjoy philosophy. His tests can be diffcult, however if you prepare ahead of time you'll do great! I really loved his class.
I completely enjoyed this class. I loved the discussions. I learned a lot. He is one of the most interesting, funny, and brilliant teachers I have ever encountered. I loved every class and would actually get out of bed even while I was sick to attend because it made me happy to be there. He is a tough grader but I still sing his praises.
Klonoski is a lovely man, he just wants an insane amount of details in your response on the exams.
I took this class during the shortened summer so its a lot of material in short time. So many notes, talks really fast and its a memorization. If you aren't a memorizer (I am not) than this is not the teacher for you. I studied for days but couldn't get more than a c on tests. No quizzes no papers no presentations. He also can't/won't use techn
I enjoyed this class and learned a lot, however, the tests were just too hard. Although he's a great teacher and he'll thoroughly teach you everything about the subject, his tests are all essay and he wants a crazy amount of detail. Impossible A, tough B, easy C.
Very good philosophy teacher but a very tough grader. Grading scale is very funny (92 is a A-) so he makes you work for your grade. As long as you attend class and take notes you will do fine!
I was speaking with my nephews yesterday who have taken phl 120 w/ Dr. Klonoski. I took his class in 1981 (his first year at Scranton). Just wanted to say he is one of the best professors I ever had. As testament I can still recall nearly all I learned from him- Sophocles, Plato, Descartes, Sartre- he made it all so relevant. Wonderful! Take it!!
Dr. Klonoski is the best philosophy test at the University of Scranton. Coming to class matters. Missing one class could result is so much information missed. No matter bring the book or materials you are reading to class he hates when your not prepared. Pay attention and write till you can't write anymore! He also makes you work for your grade!
Klonoski is a great guy. He's real chill and doesn't take himself too seriously. No work besides tests, which are on the hard side (all short answer, sometimes essay), but he mostly only tests you on what he covers in class. Take DETAILED notes and DON'T skip. If you want the A, you have to work for it, but either way it's a fun time :)
Ethics is a difficult class and he is very tough. Tests are all essay questions but he is very helpful and will try and help you out.
The class is challenging at first, but over time it was easy to get used to Klonoski's style of teaching. Make sure you take detailed notes! 90% of the time if he repeats something more than once it's going to be on the test. It's a tough class but do not give up, it was the best class of my freshman year
This was honestly my favorite class taken freshman year. He makes you work incredibly hard for an A, but it is doable with copious amounts of studying. You MUST take detailed notes, and if you skip class even once you will miss so much material. His lectures are amazing, and they keep you engaged the entire time.
Dr. Klonoski is great. I took him for SJLA and the reputation is correct: He is very specific with what he wants in responses on tests. However, he will repeat things numerous times indicating that they are important. Write down everything he says and make a study group to pool notes. Begin test preparations early because its a lot of memorizing
Dr. Klonoski is one of the best professors I've ever had. I am not a philosophy major and genuinely enjoyed his lectures. You have to write down everything he says and memorize it, but if you can do that, there will be no surprises. He is always willing to clarify and loves questions. There's only 5 tests, take home final, no papers.
One of the funniest, most engaging and insightful professors I have taken so far. It's very doable to get an A in SJLA Ethics - everyone will tell you that you have to write down literally everything he says - and you do :) - but the tests are very straightforward, nothing you wouldn't expect. Loves handball and flannel shirts. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Hands down the best professor I have ever taken at the U. Read, follow along in the lecture, write down everything he says and follow along in the book and you will excel in this course. Readings are relatively short and very interesting. You will learn so much about yourself! If you get the opportunity, take this course with Klonoski. Loved!
Klonoski will come off a little weird at first. His class might seem hard, but if you take good notes and listen to everything he says in lecture, you'll be fine. For the honors course, his tests are fair but brutal. You literally have to know everything. Fair grader. Charming personality once you get to know him.
An absolute champion among men. He is incredibly smart, incredibly funny, and is a fantastic teacher. Probably one of, if not my favorite ever. His class is hard, but the subjects aren't slacker subjects. He's tough, but absolutely fair. He treats the subjects, and the students with the utmost respect.
Great guy, easy one of my favorite classes I have taken at the U. He has a great personality that shows in his lectures. Exams are LOTS of writing and are quite difficult, but if you pay attention and engage with the material and class, it makes it much easier. GO TO CLASS, exams are purely from material talked about in lecture, take good notes.
I have never worked so hard in a class. Klonoski is a great guy but I would not recommend taking if you do not want to work your butt off by always doing the readings and annotating everything in advance. 4 tests that are short answer heavy and one final. Make sure you are able to explain each concept for every topic covered. don't do the bare min
This class is one big run on sentence filled with corny jokes that no one understands... but, I would take a class with him again! Super nice professor and I learned a lot.
Dr. Klonoski is a great guy. He seems a little rough at first because he doesn't learn names and lectures on the first day but he has strong dad vibes and you come to like him over time. His exams are rough because they are just open ended questions on the readings. He spends a lot of time going over readings in class too!
He's tough, but you warm up to him thought the semester. Don't trust the syllabus to tell you the amount of tests/essays he'll probably change his mind. Tests are hard and completely short answer. Take notes on everything he says with emphasis on things he repeats or definitions and you'll be okay. Strong dad vibes, wants the best for his students.
Klonoski runs a very ordered class and he seems tough at first. His tests are open ended and somewhat difficult, but the essays boost your grade. The key to success is to read ahead, take good notes, and study with a group. The content of the class is eye opening and Klonoski is a good man who cares about his students
Dr. Klonoski is a very difficult teacher to take do not get me wrong. But his class was nevertheless very enjoyable. Only fill in the blank questions on the exams which makes him difficult but once you got it down pat its not that bad.Examples can be quite outlandish which can make you wake up real quick.
No PowerPoints so if you don't write down exactly what he says, you will lose points. Very lecture heavy and the tests are pretty difficult. His examples were funny but I wish the class was more engaging and allowed more class discussion. One on one, he is a nice guy and friendly. Use study groups and go to office hours to get a decent grade.
VERY VERY heavy on lecturing. will talk for entirety of class ad expect u to write everything down. heavy on no phones and technology.. so good luck! overall, he's super engaging.. I've honestly never felt bored in his class. office hours will help!! be ready for T and F exams and lots of essays on exams.
Dr. Klonoski is such a nice guy! He's really funny and is so good at teaching. The class is all lectures, so note-taking is a must. The only grades are usually the exams (which are tough), so studying is also essential. He is not easy but helps you enjoy philosophy! Highly recommend!
Klonoski was probably one of the best professors I've had. Took him for 120 and 210. His class is all lecture-based, with no real discussions, projects, or homework at all. Some papers but they were extremely manageable and meant to bring up your grade. Just take really good notes and you'll be fine. He is such a sweet and down-to-earth guy!!!
He is a really nice guy, but very hard tests which were mostly open response and some t/f. Boring lectures but super understanding with issues and will try his best to help you.
Klonoski's lectures are very lecture-heavy and slow, making them boring. He's a tough grader, and I wish there were PowerPoint slides to help follow along. His handwriting is hard to read, so taking notes is difficult, and his tests are really challenging. He's a nice guy, but overall not my favorite teacher.
I don't want to hate on Klonoski because he's an awesome person, however his teaching style was just not my favorite. Class is just heavy lectures which makes it incredibly boring. He's strict on no technology so get ready to write down lots of notes. Wish there was a PowerPoint or other material to help follow along. Tests are super difficult.
He is probably the hardestprofessor/teacher I have ever had. He challenges the class by introducing the new topics as they are. He rarely dumbs down the material, which makes you think. His class structure consists of standing up front of the class and talking for the majority of the time and stopping to answer questions and explain. take notes!!!!
Honestly, Dr. Klonoski is a nice guy, but it's a difficult class. Tests are hard. They're mainly short answer and essays, so make sure to do the readings. True or false questions will DEFINITELY get you. His handwriting is difficult to understand. VERY lecture heavy, but gives examples on what is being talked about to grasp a better understanding.
Dr. Klonoski is very nice. I joke that this class is just thoughts I had at the age of 16... The class itself can be boring but Klonoski tries to make it interesting by talking and giving anecdotes and whatnot. Klonoski does NOT allow any electronics and is VERY strict about this so get ready to take notes, based off his lecture, no slides.
Klonoski's class is challenging but rewarding. Take detailed notes, read the textbook, and use study groups - they're essential to succeed. unstuck study was a huge help for exam prep, alongside other resources like ChatGPT. Overall, a tough but worthwhile course.
HORRIBLE class. He's an okay guy but his teaching style is awful. He comes in and lectures for the entire class. No slides or textbooks so make sure you writing down what he says. No assignments. Tell tests, a midterm, and the final. There is absolutely nothing to go off of or follow along with besides his lectures. No electronics so bring notebook
He'd be a nice person to sit down and have a conversation with. However, he is the worst professor or teacher I've had in my life! No PowerPoint, no electronics, no study guides. Bro talks for entire class. I went to every class and studied and still did horrible on exams. Be ready to have an exam every time you come back from a break.
Certainly a challenging class that will require hard work from you, but overall I found him to be very interesting and informative. He is definitely a very knowledgeable and accomplished man in his field, and he really managed to make philosophy interesting to me as someone who never paid much attention to the subject that much.
