He gives us homework without explanation then wants it done.

He never explains anything, and can be very rude at times.

He offers no help. Assignments given are given without instructions or help on how to do them. If you don't already know what you're doing, don't expect that he will do his job and actually teach you. Find people that understand what is going on and work with them.

Tons of homework. Awful teacher. Didn't learn anything. I went to every class and actively participated but he just doesn't teach. Take any other professor and it'll be so much easier. He even admitted that all of his assignments are harder than in other sections.

The class itself is a hard class anyways but having him made it tougher. He assigned a lot of extra assignments that other 111 profs didn't assign. His tests are a lot harder than the other sections as well. He isn't a bad guy just not the best person to teach this class as it doesn't seem he knows the material very well and is unorganized.

Like people say ENG 111 is a hard course no matter who the professor is. At the end of the day Kurwits won't fail you unless your robot never works. I had bad test grades but robot always did what is was suppose to and I ended up with a B. Also you really have to teach yourself everything for this class.

He gave more homework assignments than other professors, and these were very difficult homework assignments. He does like cats and wears cool socks, but also seems to enjoy watching students struggle through his difficult assignments and quizzes.

He's a really nice guy, but he gives so much more homework than the other profs and doesn't go over all of the material in enough depth. Although it feels like I am failing everything we I still have a high B in the class so the course itself is hard to fail. I would not take him again just because of the amount of homework.

Cable Kurwitz gives ample amounts of homework that no other class has. His lectures do not always pertain to class day to day. He is a good professor during office hours, but is not good to talk to in class.

This guy loves to add to the homework. ENGR 111 has a certain amount of homework that almost all professors give out. He will give out that and then create 4-5 new problems. He does not explain anything in class, and would much rather tell you an irrelevant story about his personal life than actually correctly explain the material.

Easily one of the worst profs for ENGR 111. Gives unnecessary HW that adds nothing to the course . The tests are incredibly easy so this class is an easy A with pretty much any professor. But Kurwitz just piles on unnecessary amounts of work. Overall a trash prof.

Doesn't really teach at all, so learning to code is up to you, by reading the online book. He's not very clear with instructions and expects way more than any other prof at this level of Engr. He gives a lot of homework, and is nice if you know what you're doing, otherwise he's rude and won't really answer your questions effectively.

While I am Sure he is a proficient( Possibly Excellent) member of his professional field, his skills as a professor of introductory engineering is less than lack luster. He would expect students to fully understand all material before hand, and would answer questions with a tinge of disdain. Loads of homework with little to no relation to tests.

He gives out an INSANE amount of work. He also has crazy strict grading requirements he probably won't even tell you about till day of. He constantly goes off topic to tell personal stories and fails to cover most any of the required course material. You will have to self teach MATLAB coding and God help you if you don't have a solid foundation.

He refuses to teach you any coding but gives a huge month long project do all outside of class. He fails to tell you the grading rubric but grades very harshly anyways. His lectures are next to useless and filled with pop quizzes and graded understanding checks. Good luck getting even a B in this class. By far the heaviest workload I've ever had :(

Kurwitz is one of those really rude and entitled professors who try to make life more difficult for students. For example, he told us that the online textbook was not required, but then he put it in as a grade on the last day of the semester. That being said he's not that hard.

No doubt Kurwitz knows what he's talking about when it comes to coding. But he barely taught us the material and expected you to master everything and didn't really seem to are if you didn't understand. He is very passive aggressive. Gave my class a final project, even though other ENGR102 classes didn't have one.

Very entitled and inconsiderate prof. Was not helpful at all during office hours and can have a very selfish attitude. Terrible at grading, didn't return most of our papers and projects until the very end of the semester and the TA he has was awful too, left no comment on any homework assignment. I knew no coding language going into the class and still don't. When he grades homework and weekly teamwork, he doesn't actually check your programs/codes. He doesn't care if it works, he just gives you a 100. Exams are handwritten. Why? IDK. That's the one time he grades correctly because his assistants help. I somehow still passed, how? IDK!

Kurwitz is one of the worst professors I've ever had, and I went to Community College for 2 years. He gives you an online textbook, and a boat load of labs and quizzes and expects you to completely understand coding just by reading the power point and doing Zybook. Doesn't explain stuff in class either, so that's fun.

Kurwitz is a horrible professor. Grades hard while teaching nothing (and by he grades, I mean his TAs grade everything and do a bad job). Little to no feedback on any grades and even people in my class that had prior coding experience get bad grades. His instructions are unclear and if you ask him a question be ready to get called lazy and dumb.

Your GPA honestly hangs in the balance here. I know it's recommended you take Rate my professor with a grain of salt, but read my lips: he is completely different than every other ENGR 102 professor. He doesn't do any of the grading, but they do have to grade by his rubric, which is unique to just his class. You will do more work than anyone else.

Hardest freshman engineering class for no reason. I came in knowing how to program but there is up to 10 assignments that have multiple parts for homework every week. This does not include group work which is about the same work load every week. This class hinders you from being successful in your core classes and drops GPA. Made people drop engr.

Good luck if you got him. Even people who knew a good amount of coding before hand struggled with the length and difficulty of the homework. All my friends who did not have this professor had less than half the amount of assignments I did. Try to switch out if you can.

Please please please take any other professor. You will do significantly more hwk than any other class, and you have a huge project at the end of the year that no one else has. Avoid at all costs

Lots of talking but mediocre to bad explanations. Only one of the four peer teachers was really helpful. WAY too much homework and the assignments had poorly written instructions. From what I'm told he makes the peer teachers make the rubrics and doesn't actually do any of the grading himself. Avoid if possible!

This course is supposed to be run by the department but cable takes lots of liberties. If you take him you will have more and harder homework than any other class. He never lecture he makes you read the text book and lecture slides on your own. If you don't know how to code in python DO NOT take this class.

Coming into the first day of class, I was very motivated to learn Python, however, over the course, my motivation disappeared. Not only is a lot of homework assigned, but lectures are also useless. He also did not prepare students for many questions given on the final, so prepare to self-study for that. Overall, not hard to get an A in the course.

If you hate group projects and extra hw, DROP THIS PROF! He gives extra hw and labs for no reason. While I was working on Sunday night trying to carry an entire team's load of hw, my friends were out partying and having a good time. If you enjoy wasting your time and learning absolutely nothing, then take Kurwitz.

As I'm sure you've already seen reading the other reviews, do NOT take Kurwitz under any circumstance. I have at least twice as much work as my friends in other 102 classes, not to mention double the quizzes, harder grader, and a much harder midterm. He talks about random things in class and does easy code in class but the work is impossible.

He's the worst ENGR102 professor. You'll get way too much homework and labs and not enough time to do them.

If you have Kurwitz, you will 3x more work than with any other professor. My roommate and I took ENGR102 but had different professors. My roommate wrote on average 3 programs a week while I wrote 8-12 programs. Grades online textbook work. Gives tons of work and extra quizzes. Ex: I am doing a huge semester project while my roommate is in Disney

Dr. Kurwitz assigns the MOST homework out of any professor and expected us to complete them in a week-long period. The homework was never ending, requiring code that was way too difficult for a beginner (seeing as this is an entry level class). The ONLY reason why I survived this class was because of my amazing TA. Do NOT take Kurwitz!

Don't get me wrong, Dr. Kurwitz is a nice guy, but he's probably the worst professor you can take for this class. His lectures often go over his allotted time and they're unhelpful anyway. He assigns way more labs and homework than any other professor that teaches this class. If you haven't coded in Python before, this class is not for you.

Do not take this class if you value your mental health. The amount of homework that is assigned in this class adds up to 15-20 hours a week depending on how experienced you are in programming before taking this class. The time I spent working on these assignments negatively affected my grades in other classes. Not something you want to deal with.

He definitely gives the most work out of all the ENGR102 professors, about 10-15 hours a week will be spent on labs and the homework, and the amount of time spent on this class leaves you with little time for other classes that are probably worth more than the 2 hours this class is worth. I would not recommend taking him.

I would rather drag sensitive parts of my body through 3 miles of broken glass covered in salt than take Richard Kurwitz again. He assigns considerably more work than any other professor in the department for no reason, doesn't explain very well, and often goes on tangents in lectures. This 2-hour class had more work than my 4-hour classes.

Kurwitz gives no input on the information needed to complete homework and labs. His lectures are useless and did not help with any work. His TA's do most of the work and be prepared to hear about his son's sports team. Overall, find another prof if you have no background in python coding. Also, was very disrespectful toward the class.

It's a two credit hour class, but takes more time out of my week than my 4 credit hour calc 2 class. The topics in this class are completely random and difficult. Don't get me wrong, Professor Kurwitz is a great guy. However, he is an absolutely awful teacher for this class. He always talks about how simple lecture topics are like we should know how to do everything already. Also, his lecture PowerPoints are long walls of words that mean nothing if you've never studied the material before. Don't take him.

His lectures arent lectures and are instead him standing there showing us what he knows about python and reading from a slide. You will spend all of your time on this class. He comes off condescending and gives more work than any other 102 prof. Literally take any other prof. Only good thing Ill give him is he is good one on one in office hours.

I got more work in one week than all of my classes for the whole semester combined. If you take this guy just pray that there are open spots for other profs. I took this class willing to learn, but Professor Kurwitz completely shoved all my enthusiasm and passion out the window. Its not worth coming to class since you'll leave more confused. I find it a better use of my time to instead self learning how to make bots on this website and make it create fake users just to drive his rating lower.

Took his REGULAR course & did HONORS work because he didn't want to grade different assignments, including the final project, which was 11 pages of simulations instead of a game like everyone else. Kurwitz is the worse. Took him in spring 21 .Just hearing him make me go to sleep. I was a new transfer ready to learn but Kurwitz shoved all my enthusiasm and passion out the window. I hated my experience with Kurwitz, respectfully. First day of class, he said we'd be fine with no coding experience, by the next class we were already expected to code advanced programs. He gave the most labs and homework out of all the ENGR 102 professors. His "lectures" consist of flying through 100s slides. The TA's were a lot of help.

The assignments each weak are longer and harder than the ones from other professors. The quizzes are based off of things that you dont need to realistically know off the top of your head in the real world. The final project given was 10x harder and more time consuming than other professors. Even with python experience, do NOT take him. Awful prof

This guys is retarded. Worse professor in Texas A&M. Just got all the grades and man screwed everyone over. Gave everyone a different final project than all the other professors and it was so much harder. Average was a 60. No curves no extra credits. Tough hw and no lectures. Useless. I had the terrible luck of getting this professor my first year at TAMU. I was lucky that I had previous knowledge of coding cause if I didn't I would've been destroyed. This man teaches nothing and expects you to learn everything from powerpoints. For a 2 credit hour class, there's so much work. Lengthy and much harder assignments than other profs

Attendance isnt exactly mandatory but you have to show up to class to get the code for quizzes. The TAs do everything. Grading was done at the last minute and the final wasnt graded until the evening grades were due to the registrar.

horrible class. The professor was not fully fluent in Python, or any coding language from what I was able to gather. He was not helpful and challenged us with problems that were impossible for "beginner" coding students. His workload is also INSANE. He gave us more difficult and many more labs than any other ENGR professor.

Kurwitz is the boogeyman for engineering students. You will hear whispers about his class, the people who it made cry, and the students that would normally do good, drop out. I only have 160 more characters to describe this professor, and it still wouldn't be enough. Don't take his class. The Ta's are good though. go to them for help.

He gives too much homework for the content of the class, in my opinion. In addition, he spends lecture times simply reading off of long-worded power-point slides, but at the same time he doesn't give students enough time to copy the required information from said slides, moving on immediately after finishing a sentence.

If you are going to take Engineering 102 with Kurwitz and have little to no coding experience I strongly suggest that you choose a different professor. His 102 class is not beginner-friendly and he assigns more problems to the homework than any other professor. He is a nice man, but I found his class to be much more difficult than it needed to be.

Kurwitz is horrible. I learned absolutely nothing. He shows up to class 20mins late and assigns impossible homework. He reads verbatim off of a slideshow and doesn't explain or work out any problems. The only test is a final and most people fail miserably. try your best to get someone else but if you cant, do well on the labs to boost your grade.

Kurwitz is ineffably bad, please avoid him! Only the TAs and my group mates helped me. He was often unclear about directions. He didn't care about the class, often showing up 30 minutes late. He took weeks to grade both of our exams and the final project. He rounds down the final grade, there are no curves for the final exam or the class overall.

If you do not have previous coding experience you really have no hope in this class. Everything is done on your own and from what I have heard from students in other classes one of the hardest professors. While other classes had partial credit and practice quizzes and extra credit etc this class had none of that.

This man doesn't do a thing in lecture. Yes, majority of work is team labs and he is nice. But as someone with no prior experience in coding, being taught in lecture was important and this didn't happen. Asking questions? Expect passive aggressive/unhelpful answers. I barely got feedback and couldn't access prior quizzes unless I met with him.

First I must mention that I had no coding experience whatsoever prior to ENGR102. The entire structure of the course makes it a weed-out class and it is clear that he lectures only because it is required of him, not because he has any desire for anyone to learn the material he is required to talk about. He makes the class harder than it already is.

The amount of work this professor gives is more than that of all other sections combined. Not only that, he makes you do many things that aren't even required (this class does not require Python, but he made us write a 200-line long code for homework). Should be considered a 4 hour class with the amount of work he gives.
