GREAT TEACHER!
He is a great teacher but his tutorials suck because it is like another lecture.

the best prof i've had so far
If it wasn't for Prof. Lalonde, my academic career in Psychology would have been a write-off! His tutelage during my thesis year has led to my current academic success. Thank you, Prof. Lalonde.

Seems like a wonderful person, but don't make the mistake of asking him to be your adviser in any capacity. As an adviser he is abysmal. No motivation, no direction, no inspiration.
BEST TEACHER EVER!
Really good teacher! He makes psych very easy to understand, and makes his lectures fun
I found his lectures very interesting and informative, as I'm very intrigued with the discipline of psychology. Very easy to catch up if you miss a class, and very compassionate.
Best prof ever! If only the lectures weren't so early :( Tests were very relevant, no treaky cr@p. If u read the text u r set! Oh and watch the movies, he puts the questions related to the movies sometimes. Definately will try to get another class with him! Very interesting and inspiring!
not too hard. pay attention to the movies, the questions will end up on the exams. just read the txtbook, and generally pay attention in class and its pretty easy to get a good mark. he usually ends the class early and lets u go. seems like a really nice guy, funny at times.
without his powerpoint he know nothing; he has to read every thing from his power point. he is so proud that he cannot pronounce some words in English properly.
Amazing teacher...he makes the class so interesting. The tests are very fair, read the text and you are set to go.
The class is really interesting and the prof definitely knows what he's talking about. If you study the book and the lecture notes you are sure to do well.
Great prof! Makes lectures interesting, knows his material really well, and exams are straight-forward and related to material taught. Plus he always gives a bonus question for attending class. I would take another course with him!
Professor Lalonde is a fantastic prof! He starts every morning off with music and makes lectures fun and interesting. He often involves the class in small activities that bring the material to light. His personal anecdotes are hilarious, he's easy to approach and he seems like a genuinely nice guy. This guy knows his stuff!
His lectures make lots of sense and are funny, interesting, and it's difficult to day dream during Pr. Lalonde's classes. I love psych, but after taking this class I decided to take it as my major! I will never forget all the fun I had in this course.
He was always willing to assist you in any way you can. The exams were fair and straightforward, and you'll do well so long as you read the text & study the given concepts. The class always had a positive energy. I'd definitely take one of his classes again, if possible!
Amazing professor. He's very funny and explains concepts clearly. He always answers any questions and is approachable. Read the book, attend his lectures, and you'll do great.
Great Prof. Enjoyed lectures. Read the textbook and you should do well. Exams are pretty fair.
He's an amazing prof, I actually LOVE going to his lectures. He's funny and entertaining and I learn a lot in his class. As a first year Psychology major, I hope I get another one of his classes in the future!
Very enthusiastic, which makes you pay attention. Keeps it interesting by using a variety of teaching ways (movies, experiments, etc.) Course itself is kinda hard, but i dont think thats his fault. He's pretty fair.
Amazing professor. Never missed a class (keep in mind that it was a 9 AM class too)
I didn't miss a single class and it's a 9:00 AM lecture! That's how much I liked Lalonde's class. The course requires A LOT of reading and the tests are impossible, but Lalonde's lectures are worth it. He's funny, the content is interesting, he uses a wide range of media and modern examples to explain concepts... It was fun.
fantastic prof, very clear, very interesting. favorite prof so far
Keep up on the readings! Attendance isn't mandatory but he makes a 9AM lecture worth the travel. He's very engaging, clear, fair... and kinda funny
He is a great prof but the year I took his course, some of the marking I received were not justified but he corrected it. I wish I did not have to chase him over 2-5%, but it can make a huge difference. He is a very stimulating prof and I do recommend him if your into psychology!
His lectures are very interesting. Keeps you awake even through an 8:30 AM lecture. The breakdown is 2 exams and 1 essay. The exams were fair but the essay was marked quite hard. Overall, the class was very interesting and he's a great professor. Definitely recommend him.
Professor Lalonde is a great teacher! He's definitely worth waking up early. Even though I nearly slept through every class, I still came because it was very interesting. I'd take any class he taught. Just make sure to do the readings.
amazing, engaging prof!
Absolutely amazing teacher. Definitely knows how to host a lecture and hold the attention of students. Wouldn't ever want anyone else teaching me Psych.
He was very help and very entertaining. Just keep up with the readings and you'll be fine.
I had this prof for Intro to Pysch and I must say he made me want to change my major. he did a great job, really clear with the information and seemed to really enjoy his job. Overall I would definitely take a class taught by him again, just make sure you stay on top of readings.
Great lecturer, readings were long. The Exam is mostly based on the textbook although he does put some lecture multiple choice questions on there. There's usually one or two bonus questions and 5 or 6 short answer questions.
Professor Lalonde is very engaged during his lectures and uses anecdotes to gain the interest of students. Reading the chapters are mandatory in order to pass, but his tests are very basic and his expectations are clear.
AMAZING! Didn't really care for psych but he is an amazing prof, really articulate and funny. Makes waking up early worth it!
Good professor. Make 9am lectures interesting!
recommend taking this, not too heavy
Professor Lalonde is one of the better profs I've ever had. His lectures were very interesting and inspirational, he is a great public speaker and you cannot help but pay attention when he's lecturing. His tests and assignments are very fair; there are no trick questions or surprises. Study hard and you'll do well.
One word: Awesome. He's an excellent, engaging lecturer. He knows how to capture students' attention and his enthusiasm is evident. Material is super interesting. Exams are good if you read the textbook & go to lectures. His TAs are really sweet and help make the paper seem less daunting. Also - he gives bonus marks if you participate in studies!
Prof Lalonde is one of the best at York! I throughly enjoyed his 3hr lectures, he keeps things interesting with his stories and videos. The course consisted of 1 midterm, 1 mini assignment, research proposal, and 1 final. He's really understanding and sympathetic to students and is genuinely there to help!
Lectures are always fun
He's a great proff, really passionate about the subject and very approachable. I loved his teaching skills and how prepared he came to class. He tried to incorporate as many visuals as possible to teach.
Very knowledgeable in his field, makes learning this course fun! Keeps you interested and engaged in 3 hour lectures and he makes the information easy to grasp students !
If you read the textbook & know your stuff, you should be fine.
Mark is based on 4 exams, mostly multiple choice. Dates are not important, only a few names are important but they are big names for theories etc.
Richard Lalonde is an amazing professor. His lectures are engaging, and he uses a number of materials to teach: videos, slides, demonstrations, etc. The class is graded upon four exams, all of which are very passable if you study your material and read the textbook. As well, you have an opportunity to gain an extra 2% if you participate in studies,
Lalonde makes material understandable, and uses lots of examples in class. Fantastic lecturer and speaker, PPTs have a good mix of images/videos/text. Really knowable. Exams are very fair, mostly MC with a handful of short answer with some choice. One 5 page paper with a proposal to make sure you're on the right track. Clear expectations.
Very well spoken, does his job well, keeps lectures engaging (even at 9:00am). Tests are hard if you are not good at memorizing. Everyone leave his class saying they like him as a teacher. Beware the multiple-choice tests, though.
Fantastic Professor. His 9am lectures are always very interesting, and are even worth the early morning wake up. There's lots of material covered in the course, so it's important to up keep up with the textbook readings. Overall, highly recommend this course and prof.
Great prof! His lectures are super interesting and cover a lot of the text so if you go to class its like you already read the reasdings. Also he is cute.
He is an inspiring prof! Very interesting lectures (though very long) He answers all questions with respected manners and knows his materials very well. His tests aren't tricky as long as you do the readings. BUT the textbook assigned is hell Very long chapters and articles. But prof and course is amazing so do the readings and expect a good grade
He brings the material to life, and there's a lot as it is a survey class. Reading the textbook is a must, but it's a good one, with lots of online tools. You need to attend class, as he will present some info that is not in the textbook, but might be on the test. Tests are straight-forward, no trick questions. If you do the work, you'll do well.
looking back I'm glad i took this class. I learned a lot of interesting things. the readings are killer tho. 60 pages per chapter. Richard explains concepts very clearly and goes over his studies (each one has 1 or 2 mc on the exam) very well. put in the work and you'll do well. Not the easiest psych class tho/
This was my favourite prof that i've ever had!! Although this class is only offered Wednesdays at 9am, Richard always knew how to keep things interesting. He starts the class off with a song every morning, doesn't bother anyone for attendance but at the same time expects a lot from you. Tests are hard but there are only 4. TAKE THIS CLASS
Professor Lalonde is the best Psych prof I've ever had. His passion for cultural psychology has rubbed off on me. He is the most engaging prof I've ever had to date. His teaching style was just so effective for me. This course has really changed my life and I don't think it would have had the same effect had I taken it with another prof.
For a 9 am class, prof Lalonde made things interesting and definitely knew what he was teaching. There are no surprises in his exams, as long as you either show up to class or read the textbook. He also responds to his email, which is nice!
He seems like he likes what he is doing... Attendance is not mandatory but its for your benefit to be in class.. He is great but exams can be a little tricky. as long as you know ur stuff and good at memorizing you should be fine..
Overall good prof. He is an amazing lecturer and is clear and concise. His test are multiple choice and short answer and his multiple choice are dominated by the studies he does during lecture and can be quite tricky. The essay was confusing and can be marked quite hard. The readings are a lot every week and usually of 60-70 pages weekly.
He's a great prof and makes the class enjoyable! Attendance is not mandatory, but it's for your own benefit. Course outline is as followed: 4 exams and 2% optional from participating in studies. Make sure to do the readings and study in advance or you won't do well on the exams.
Amazing caring prof that really know what he's teaching, well prepared for his lectures!
He is and amazing prof. class attendance is Not mandatory but its for your own good. he seemed like he liked what he was doing and knew his stuff. Test were a bit hard thou. humble and caring (he handled well the strike time).. I would defiantly take another class with this prof.
I do kind of not like that he made my expectations of profs so high; he's such a passionate professor. A 9am lecture was actually fun. Not even going into cultural psych but I'm gonna take it only cause he's teaching it
Great professor, passionate about the course and has very interactive lectures prepared every time and there are no surprises on the exams. Be prepared to put in time at home to learn the material, He is not an easy A.
Amazing professor! Very articulate, enjoyable and funny. Explains the concepts very clearly. He plays songs before the lecture which really wake you up. Essay and 2 tests (mc + short answer). Overall, very engaging prof. I highly recommend this course. Just make sure to attend the lectures.
Very enjoyable and cares tremendously about the topic and wanting the students to learn. Explains everything clearly. The course is a bit hard especially with only two exams each 6-8 chapters especially if you are trying to balance 4 other courses (keep that in mind). The textbook is also extremely clear. Very caring and kind professor
The MC on the test have more than one correct answer sometimes 3 out of 4 possible answers would be right and very similar and we'd have to chose "the most correct one". The essay grade was not given till right after the final exam which seems like it was done on purpose to not give students a chance to drop the course before the final.
He is a very passionate and friendly professor. His lectures often overlap with important topics in the textbook, but you still need to read the textbook and other assigned readings to do well (there is a lot of reading). There is a paper which can also work as a mask booster, and his tests have MC and SA, so an A is achievable in this course
lectures are kinda boring but he's really solid. talks a lot about research in class but pay attention bc he asks questions on exams about it... essay wasn't too hard
Such a pleasant prof. Always available to answer questions and guides you if you are having difficulty in class. Very approachable, inspiring and overall knowledgeable. Would recommend him to anyone who wants to take cultural psychology.
Dr. Lalonde is an amazing prof who genuinely cares about his students! He's super friendly and approachable and he's clearly passionate about what he teaches. He's always available outside of class to answer questions and help guide you if you are having difficulty with the course content. I can't wait to take cultural psych with him in 3rd year!!!
Lalonde wasn't a horrible prof, he just didn't care about his students that much. Also had him back when there was a strike and I had asked him a question about an assignment and he literally smerked and shrugged his shoulders at me. The mock thesis paper is a pain. Readings are heavy. Honestly wouldn't take this class again lol.
It was an absolute pleasure having Dr. Lalonde as my research mentor! He gave me a hands-on introduction into the world of research, allowing me to decide if this would be something I would want to pursue in my career. I am extremely grateful for the invaluable research skills and experience that I acquired while working as his research assistant.
He was very interactive in his lectures. There was reading every week but the lectures were interesting and went over the reading and there was lots of visual learning in the lectures ( videos etc)
Lots of work but he really does his best and always welcomes students to his office hours. Very inspirational and would take another class with him. He actually helped me write a respectful and constructive email to a French prof I was having issues with. He didn't have to help out with that but that just shows how awesome he is! Knows a lot Psych
Professor Lalonde was such a great professor to have! His lectures were always so informational and the synchronized zoom calls that happened every week were always nice. Lalonde is not monotonous either, which makes listening to the prerecorded lectures a lot easier. Overall, I loved the class and definitely recommend it!
In comparison to most of the professor at York this prof is decent. Being that we are still in a pandemic he could have made the class way more challenging. His class consisted of 2 tests and a research paper. The research paper can be tricky so make sure to clarify with the prof what are his expectations for the paper.
Dr. Lalonde is a very nice guy but the final exam was brutal and this course overall was very demanding! He could have gone lighter on us since it is the pandemic and we are also dealing with lockdown and coronavirus as well! I studied so much for the final exam and I was really disappointed!
I liked Cultural Psychology with Lalonde. The studies he mentioned in his lectures and the videos he assigned us were really interesting to listen to. When I took it there were two exams, one assignment and a mini survey/syllabus quiz worth 2%. His exams were not hard in my opinion. The MCs were largely from the textbook and SA mainly from lecture.
Good class content, but you are responsible for so much class content it's impossible to keep up. There's only 2 tests and 1 essay to get marks from along with 2 "quizzes" worth %1. The lectures i personally did not find useful and taught this course to myself.
I really enjoyed the material in this course and Professor Lalonde taught the course really well. There was a lot of reading for this course and a lot of videos to watch. The videos were really interesting and I learned a lot. He is a really nice guy and I would definitely recommend him
He gave 2 exams and 1 paper. Was very nice and polite to his online students. He was anxious about giving exams online during the covid pandemic, so he did make the exams a bit harder. His TAs mark the comprehension questions on the exams harder along with the paper --due to the pandemic. So, asking questions and seeking clarification is needed.
Hes a great prof! Hes very engaged and always has something fun planned for his courses. The course I took was pretty much all reliant on textbook readings in order to succeed, so the course was content heavy. Put in the time and you will do great! If I had put in more time I probably could have gotten an A, my bad :/ but overall hes a cool prof
This was one of the least enjoyable classes I have taken at York. The term paper was easy. Realized that the prof does not care about students. Made tests harder because did not want cheating online. I would not take a class with him again. I was mislead by the other reviews lol and I am an A student.
Decent prof but a lot of content on the final
He is wonderful. Really helpful, considerate and hilarious. Loved having discussions in his classes. Definitely take his class!
I took him a few years ago, but the fact that I'm coming back should speak volumes. We only had 4 exams and he gave lectures every week and held like q&a sessions before the exam if we had questions. I did intro in highschool so it was easy but the exams were multiple choice, he had a lot of enthusiasm and clearly wanted to teach.
He's a nice person, but very monotone and incorporates a TON of outside sources in addition to lecture+textbook material. Be prepared for a LOT of content to study. Only got an A cuz I wasn't taking a full course load. However, the course content itself is very interesting, just a lot to study.
An amazing teacher; always kind and caring for his students. I totally recommend!
