you don't buy his study guide, you're screwed.
TAKE HIM, will seem hard until second test, curves AT LEAST 30 points each test
Mumbles, hard to understand, not helpful at all. Annoying.
If you do hwk prob, go to class (quizzes), visit office, you will do fine.
If you do not do HWK, your screwed, makes you feel stupid to ask questions
speech is unintelligible
BUY THE STUDY GUIDE..if you go get help u will pass
Just do the work and you will do fine...don't do the work and you will fail!
Satan. Expect big curves. Do all homework and visit his office. Good luck!
Do hw assigned straight on the quiz, test multiple choice, go to his office,

You will get out of this course what you put into it.GO TO HIS OFFICE
hard all year...gives a huge curve so don't feak

Learned alot. Go to his office. BIG Curve. Know nominclature. Study Deff. Make sure he knows you want to pass. Go to SI that is very helpful. If your major is Chem take him. He will cover a lot of material. Do your homework Walkin tables in the arcc will.
Langley is the worst. He doesn't explain anything, and even if he tries to, you can't understand him. Best advice, just suffer through the class. Take it during the summer so you only have to see him for 5 weeks.
It is hard to believe this teacher still has a job. He is notorious for inappropriate behavior with his female students. You will learn in his class but will pull your hair out in the meantime. If possible, take another prof with integrity.

I just took him. He has got to be one of the worst teachers at SFA. If you go to him and get help he'll either talk about alcohol, try some discusting move on you if you're a girl, or luagh at you about one of you're problems.
He is one of the hardest proffessors at SFA no doubt. But you learn A LOT sereously you have a lot better of a time laiter on in chem if you take from him. He is really scarcastic and kinda quiz/test happy but he also has the most office hours at SFA.
very hard and can't read his handwriting on the board nor understand what he says. Everyone says to go to his office but when you do all he does is make fun of you for getting the wrong answer, tests are impossible. DO NOT TAKE LANGLEY!
He's very helpful...you might be scared of him at first, but just get to know him and you'll like him. Yes, he's very hard, however, he curves REALLY big, and his class and the way he teaches is extremely helpful. You'll be glad you took him.
This man cannot teach! Avoid him at all costs! His tests are impossible and I did not learn a thing. I had a hard time taking the MCAT because I had no general chem background thanks to him.
An **** professor who lives up to his reputation...avoid at all costs.
Langley is incredibly hard. If you don't have to take him, don't! You feel very dumb in his class and you might go insane having him!
This is the worst teacher i have every had. i took him my freshmen year and failed! he will make you feel stupid if you dont know the answer. take any other professor is possible!! you will not like him at all!!!
Yes, you have to study, but if you do this class is not as bad as everyone says. He curves after every test, which helps your grade a lot. He is happy to answer any questions you have. After reading past ratings on here I almost didn't take him, but I'm glad I did.
easy if you pay attention but if something is not clear you can go to his office and he is always willing to help you and you get one point everytime you go to his office and he gives big grade curves and use SI because it really helps also
Dr. Langley is a very difficult professor, and is sarcastic at times but you WILL learn the material if you try. He gives 20pt. curves, re-tests, and statistically more people get A's in his class than any other grade. There is a lot of homework, but if you really want to learn, I recommend Langley.
This is a very fast pace course. Stay on top of the homework. There is more to do outside the classroom than in the classroom. Be prepared to study. He teaches very fast, but it is word for word in his study guide. Don't be afraid of him. Ask for help if you need it. Read the syllabus thoroughly.
This teacher is horrible! He will help but he comes off as annoyed while doing it. If you need chemistry TRY to get someone else!!
his class is very very hard. unless you have plently of time to spend in his office weekly don't take this class. you will not do well unless you are prepared to focus only on chemistry and spend a lot of time in his office. he makes me very uncomfortable.
Extremely hard prof. If you are pursuing a degree in chemistry you will take him for both inorganics. if not AVOID him, Tests are from the homework and there is a curve, act like you are failing and you will pass the class. If you want an impossible challenge he is the hardest.
Langley's class is hard as hell. It is so fast pace and he is very unclear, he expects you to know a lot of the chemistry. So for those who don't have a long, good chemistry background you are in trouble. And if you visit his office he is very brief when helping. DON'T TAKE!!!!!!!
He wasn't as bad as I had heard. The class is very fast paced, but he doesn't have a choice in that. Definitely wasn't easy, and I don't recommend him for anyone not majoring in science or mathematics unless you really know your chem. Don't take it when you have other hard classes too. DO HOMEWORK!
Dr. Langley is hard but you learn so much from him..I loved his sarcasm...he is actually a great teacher.i highly reccommend taking him...but u know..if u really want a good GPA then...think twice...but i guess i made an A...and i thought i was struggling...so..well..he helps out a lot..and gives lots of extra pts..but u should be willing to work..
I was dreading taking this class after my experience with a horrible teacher for 133..Langley is a bit off but he's alot better than I thought. Alot of memorization, but whenever you go to his office, he gives you extra points! I enjoyed taking him!
He is a very hard teacher. Take him when the rest of your schedule is a light workload. His tests are hard, but if you do the homework, go to his office, buy his study guide, go to SI, and work in a study group you will do fine. You will not understand the material if you dont do at least half of these things. Doing these things i made an A.
Boring
I made an F with the same grades as a friend that sat next to me. She received an A. No joke- if you are a female that doesn't mind studying in his office every afternoon go for it. He's a horrible teacher and will fail you without blinking. I was a science major making a solid B in a senior level Geochem class while I was "failing" his 101 class.
I'm taking Bio 133 as well this semester & all the memorization drives me crazy! I heard he was the hardest prof for this class & on the tests I can take wat i thougth I made & divide it by at least 2 due to points off for ridiculous things! His handwriting isn't the easiest to read which is only so bad due to the fact that he has a lisp & is hard
Well I sometimes cant understand a word he says and he also embarassed me in his office in front of other students yeah i wasnt happy

He is a hard professor. Don't get me wrong I learned a lot and I am taking him for 134 next semester, but it is a hard class. If you go to the SI groups, study, do your homework problems and get help, you should be fine. I did well on most of the material in his class and he gives extra points for going into his office. GOOD LUCK!!
He is tough. Very tough. But he will help you if you need it. he will come to his office for you not durring his office hours, and will explain everything till you get it. just show him that you are trying and it will help.
He takes a hard class and makes it about 100 times more difficult for those that aren't good in chemistry. Only good part is he curves tests by 20 points and gives bonus points for attendance and going to his office. He's a very smart man but the tests are killer. Expects you to remember everything from 133.
I am now a chemistry teacher in high school. I love chemistry that much. I love showing the students how to do thing and understand things like the periodic table and balancing equations. Langley is a pompous fool that is everything wrong with college learning. You'll read that everyone learns in his office, thats because he can't teach.
Dr. Langley is a great teacher and a smart man. He loves for students to come to his office when they need help, he is always willing to help you on homework. His tests are hard if you don't do the homework and don't study but this is college and every class should be like that. Assigns alot of homework but there is SI and he curves tests.
Langley is one of the most sarcastic men I've ever met! If I didn't have a great chemistry background I would have been in trouble. To pass his class do the assingments, take the retest if you made below a 50, go to his office for help(he gives bonus pts. for that), and VISIT HIS WEBSITE!! He doesn't tell u about it, but it's in the syllabus.
dr. langley is a VERY nice guy, but a VERY hard teacher, chemistry is HARD period, but if you go to his office he is willing to help you! but no one... i repeat... NO ONE understands anything in class... so its a MUST that you go to his office, but most likely you're still gonna fail, only 5 people out of ALLLLL his students made an A...
He is an extremely hard teacher. I went to his office regularly and I still made a C in the class. The tests are overly difficult, and his extremely sarcastic and patronizing nature doesn't help things.
hint: Read all of syllabus immediately!
DO NOT TAKE. unless you are a girl and dont mind showing it,and then only if you can stand "Dragon Breath". The class is waste your time hard. I struggled with his class and smart mouth even after his class as it seems he followed me to work(bartender) I Am now a second year medical student with a "B" average, so just keep ACC in mind.

As many have stated, he makes this class too hard for no reason. He has a speedch impediment and the test are insanely hard. He is a nomenclature stickler. And girls usually have the best shot at making a good grade in any of his classes.
i do NOT recommend Langley for this course, if you can get someone else... if you dont understand and ask a question, he makes his answer a question and make you feel stupid, and does not answer your original question. HE DOES NOT HELP YOU AT ALL. UNLESS YOU GO TO HIS OFFICE AND ASK HIM, BUT STILL HE DONT FYI, READ SYLLABUS AS SOON AS YOU GET IT!!!
Dr. Langley is a very, very hard teacher, but he is also extremely helpful. If you go to his office to get help, he will explain everything. He wants you to pass, you just have to show that you want to pass as well. He's a very nice man! (Just a bit sarcastic)
I have a 3.8 gpa and P*rvert Langley was the worst intructor I have had.He is unwilling to help unless your a blonde girl his office stinks and he can barely speack due to lack of motor skills. HE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE HIM. unless your willing to "take him" so you can get a better grade.
I wont lie, Langley is very hard but he does this for your own benefit. You come out of the class well prepared for the next level of chemistry. The material is not handed to you on a platter, you have to work at it but he very helpful if you go to his office and ask questions. He wants his students to pass, but dont expect him to cater to slackers
Langley requires a lot of work from you. Depending on how dedicated you are to your studies will directly affect your grade in this class. Go to his office as often as possible to ask questions and start the assigned problems immediatley. he really cares about you and grade as long as you care about you and your grade. I took him for 134 and 133

This class was extremely difficult. He is hard to understand and doesn't explain things in great detail. His class has a TON of homework. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone unless you have a very good knowlegde of chemistry coming into the class. Requires you to talk to him if you fail a test, but just repeats what you did wrong. DO NOT TAKE
I'm seeing a lot of negative comments. Tsk tsk. Well, I'm not blonde, and I'm not a girl, and I got an A in his class. Why? Because I tried, and tried hard. This is college. This is college Chemistry and Chemistry is an intricate subject. Langley won't spoon feed you if he doesn't see you making any effort. You have to take initiative to succeed.
his talking is hard to understand at times and his test are extremely hard but the grading scale is 70=A etc.
Don't believe the negative comments! They were written by lazy people who wanted an A in the class without having to put out any effort. I went to class, took notes, and did the homework problems like Langley said, and I easily made an A. I recommend going to his office for extra help and also going to SI. I am looking forward to having him again!
Dr. Langley is good teacher. unlike other classes, you actually learn something in his. He might be very difficult to understant at time. His test are very hard. If go to class regularly, go to his office for help and correct our mistakes, then you should be fine. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. But be ready to so wome serious work.
The only students who hated taking Langley were the LAZY ones who did not do their homework. I took him for 2 chemistry classes and made an A in both! Just do the homework, you'll do great! The test questions are from the homework! He's in his office if you need help, he will answer and of the homework questions if you ask. Go to SI also!
omg...worst teacher ever... it was horrible... the class is boring, he's not enthusiastic... and he doesnt really help you alot... seriously... i was a genius in highschool... and sciences are my thing!!! but langleys science is not earth science... its alien outer space science.... really scary!!!
Always in the office and ready to help
READ YOUR SYLLABUS! He'll give it to you the first day of class and I strongly suggest you read it before the next class. At the top it lists his website, GO TO IT! Print the lecture guide, assigned problems and Nomeclature practice. Don't get behind. Attend every class, even if you're sick. Go to office hours, SI and get a tutor if you need one!
he actually told me "i dont expect you to learn form my class, its up to you to learn the material on your own time"
He is an extremely hard professor but he does cover what most do not. He loves to be sarcastic and he does prefer female students.....Do the work and youll be fine, somewhat...
Worst teacher EVER! I had him for both 133 and 134 and he hated my guts. He doesn't teach the material. yes i recommend doing the homework but then again it doesn't help due to the fact he won't answer questions and all he does is yell at you ... Do not take! I am an excellent student, but this class ... God bless everyones soul.
Worst possible teacher in the history of teachers, not only does he have a lisp/accent, but he has terrible handwriting and is not clear at all. He also is very pedantic when talking to students and could not care less about the students. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
This class is hard. Do not come to college chemistry and expect it to be easy. Trust me I feel your pain, I am not a naturally intelligent student. I work for every grade I get. And that is exactly what his class requires. You will find it pays off BIG TIME. Especially when you already know whats going on in lab. STUDY STUDY. He is there to help.
I've had him for both 133 and 134, he is a tough professor but if your respectful and show up to class he'll do anything he can to help you succeed in his class. He's super sarcastic and can come off as an ass in class but go to his office hours and ask questions, this will save you in his class. DO THE HOMEWORK
Langley can be your best friend or worst enemy. If you don't read the syllabus you will find yourself questioning his teaching. Don't be dumb, lazy, or try to blame him. DO THE HOMEWORK.GO TO SI TO CHECK ANSWERS. MEMORIZE DEFINITIONS WORD FOR WORD AS HE SAYS THEM OR YOU WILL BE WRONG. Pace yourself during tests. Do all the work first then go back and do answers. TRUST ME. Then answer is only two points. And you only have one hour. Go to his office for help. If you do all of that your fine.
Appreciate him challenging you.
Very hard professor, would not recommend taking him for any class unless you have a lot of free time to be spending in his office.
Definitely the hardest course I've ever taken in my life! However, Dr. Langley offers A LOT of outside resources to help you. The tests consist of homework problems or problems similar to the homework assigned. He offers retests and gives 20 point curves on ALL his exams. He's a challenge, but I would still recommend him.
Very tough and time consuming class. He expects you to memorize many things that you need to begin memorizing as soon as you learn them. You cannot put off the homework and you need to do a little bit every day. It is difficult to get help from him because he will just simply write out the problem. Tests are VERY hard and are not multiple choice.
Dr. Langley is notorious for having students drop after the first test. I was one of them! He is VERY specific when it comes to his definitions on his tests. You need to do the homework to understand anything in class. Every question you ask is always a stupid question to him. He is an overall ass. If you like the challenge take him with caution!
He did not enjoy teaching this course and did not enjoy answering questions. I went to every class and took really good notes but the amount of memorization he requires is staggering. I would prefer not to take him again.
Dr. Langley is completely disrespectful to students. Three years ago I told my brother that I was transferring to SFA (He is Alumni) and the first thing he told me "Don't take Dr. Langley". Unfortunately I had to take him for lab and he is a horrible professor. I am an A student, I made A's on every lecture exam and failed lab with Langley. ???
Dr. Langley challenged the hell out of me, but in the end I learned so much from him than I've learned from any other prof. Study study study. He wants serious students. That's how you'll earn his respect. Go to office hours. He is an ass, but deal with it and he'll respect you and help you. I got an A... toughest A I've ever earned. Good luck!
If you want to pass, you will. At first I didn't like the way he taught ,but I went to his office and he will spend all his free time helping you understand. He was so helpful I switched my advisor to him. Do the homework!
Inspirational, respectful, easy going. Dr. Langley is none of these things. Whenever I or any of the other students would ask a question, he would respond with a sarcastic response that did not answer the question and made me feel less of myself. Any wrong answer on a test did not just get an X, but an insult along with it for some reason.
He was not helpful when I asked questions, and is unnecessarily rude with his responses to questions and in his grading on tests. He did not seem like he enjoyed his job and me and everyone else in the class suffered for it. I would not recommend him because he is pompous jerk who seems to have unrealistic expectations for students.
Dr. Langley is quite the prof. He is the hardest to take in Gen Chem, but i would do it all over again. Tough grader, but offers tons of help. If you want to pass, do the homework, MUST go to office hours! Tests are short, but hard, everything based off HW. This class is a challenge, but you WILL learn. Great class, would take him again!
This class was a real challenge, but if you put in the effort you can pass. He loves his red pen and grades hard, but a 70% on an exam is an A. Go to the SI, she is extremely helpful! Your grade is based off of 5 exams, no graded homework or graded quizzes. Chem 133 is hard no matter who teaches it, so you must study. This class was my favorite.
When asked a question he doesn't seem to wat to explain, and when you ask him for ways to improve your grade all he says is that different things work for different people. I always do better on the retake exams because he explains them an hour or two before the retake so I have a better idea of what's going on.
Worst professor I have ever had. He makes the class and all of his tests unnecessarily hard. Unrealistic expectations. Avoid him at all costs.
Dr. Langley is one of the toughest professors at the university. He is unclear and will make you feel stupid on purpose. He doesn't care whether you pass or fail, and he isn't very helpful at all. He wants you to know the material on his level, and makes every effort to be as unfair as possible.
Dr. Langley was a great professor! I went into his class thinking it was going to be really challenging and no surprise... it was definitely a challenge. You must do your assigned homework problems or you will fail his tests. His tests are difficult, but he does give lots of partial credit. His class was my favorite and I would take him again.
Dr. Richard Langley (Doc) was by far my favorite professor during my time at SFA. I credit his toughness and straight forward mentality for giving me the tools to earn my degree. He comes off as a tough, no nonsense guy and he is, but he also truly cares about each of his students. I am very glad that I had him as a professor.
