He's a bit condescending, but will kinda help if you ask. His test are the main problem. The practice he gives you is not like the test. His grading is rough. He finds any reason to deduct points. If you do take him, take my advice: always write the units and read the chapter because he only covers the bare minimum in lecture and goes really fast.

Taking Dr. Lavelle' s class s my biggest regret. I worked really hard, but nothing helped. His tests are super hard and the problems are nothing that you do in class. He rushes through the lecture and does the easiest problems on the board. Don't take this class unless you have a good foundation. There were barely any students left by the 5th week!

Avoid taking his class by any cost, he is very condescending with all students, If you ask a question he will refuse to answer it, or he will answer you in a very sarcastic way, He always will find and excuse to take points away from your work, He is very lazy also, he will give you a handout instead of doing his work which is teaching.

His lectures are deceptively simple and easy to understand. You'll feel like you understand the lecture, have no questions, and fail anyway. Uses an "arbitrary" grading scale (in his own words!), takes away more points than questions are stated to be worth, marks correct answers "wrong" if he doesn't like your approach. Avoid if possible.

Professor Lavallee's classes are tough, and he can sometimes be a bit hard on students. But you will gain a solid ground for chem if you just can keep up with him. Solve all of the practice problems, and attend office hours! He will help you a lot if you just reach out to him. He is great for people who are a bit of an overachiever/loves challenges

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FOR CHEM 10! He is a horrible and rude teacher. He goes way too fast during lectures and confuses you even more if youre already confused. He gives way too much work and he is super extra. All he tells his students is that you wont pass this class. DO NOT TAKE FIND A BETTER PROFESSOR !

This teacher is horrible. He doesnt teach at all and instead, he tells us to watch his recorded lectures that arent possible to follow bc the audio isnt in sync. He doesnt care for his students success. Pls do not choose his class.

If you want to teach yourself chemistry, this is the professor for you. He is a nice person, but as a teacher, not so much. You get prerecorded lectures which are confusing, and office hours twice a week. Quizzes every week and hard, and I swear he makes up reasons to knock off points. Brags about how MOST people fail his class or withdraw.

You will fail exams if you don't do the extra practice he provides. Watch ALL the lectures and take notes. My best advice is to attend office hours and do all the extra practice. This professor gives no extra credit but he will drop the lowest exam, lab and 3 HWs. If you are not willing to put in some effort, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

On the first day of class, Dr. Lavallee made it clear that this class would require between 20-5 hours a week to do well in this self-paced class. It's a large workload of learning the material, doing 80 or so questions a week, and taking the occasional exam. I was able to communicate with the professor and ask any question via email.

He kindly answers students' questions. The lecture is not difficult, and if u do ur homework and tests carefully, u can get A. He checks only the highest HW and Lab, and also he gives three chances to do HW!!

Keeping it simple. Chemistry is hard.. This class is hard.. But if you actually put in some work and do his homework assignments, and his practice problems which are all online, with answer keys. You will honestly do fine. I havent taken classes in 10 years. Coming back to this course was scary.. but because of him i actually understand chemistry.

I dropped this class less than 2 weeks into the semester. His homework is nothing like his lectures, and he grades based off how many answers you get right. Takes off points for unnecessary things, such as not stapling your paper. Also takes off points in labs for small things. DO NOT TAKE HIM.

I LOVE this class. If you're going to take Chem 10 as just a requirement, then I probably wouldn't take him because this class is difficult. On the other hand, if you are going to pursue chemistry, then I couldn't imagine a better professor to take. I feel so prepared for my future in chemistry because I took this class.
