He is extremely cool, his grading was so easy and he gave away lots of free points that everybody could not realize that, during the quater i got a C in the class, but if you study hard and get a good "cheat note", i guarantee to you that you will get at least a B in the class
Prof. Lopez is really great. he explains everything clearly and gives tests based on what he lectures. the tests aren't very easy but u can definitely get A on all of them if you do the homeworks. he is extremely helpful during office hours. the only down side is he talks kindda fast so if ur not a native speaker it could be a little challenging.
Mr.Lopez is a great teacher overall even though I failed his class. His test are fairly easy, and he gives you a lot of quiz(sometimes group quiz, which is a grade booster). He grades hw, and he is always willing to help(as long as you ask). I wouldent say he is a to good of a teacher but if you dont have any idea who to take. Lopez is a good.
This isnt gunna be a broken English "lopez is suck" rating. And its going to help you out.I had the guy for trig. And can only evaluate him from a 1/4.Always had a smile, helpful, insightfull, kinda funny(so he thinks),teaching method is A+.Wants you to learn and tells you what to learn(test&quiz).Learn what he prescribes-use it-get an A.He teach calc?
Lopez is a great teacher, very willing to help, very friendly, goes over test material well, lets you have notes for exams... I have a very hard time with math but got through 114 with him. I recommend him 100%. Don't fall behind on the homework & don't miss lectures!
he is my FAVORITE math teacher of all time! his notes are awesome and he just knows how to explain hard concepts clearly. very nice and willing to help those who struggle, i definitely recommend him!
One of the best teachers I've ever had--and I am definitely NOT a fan of math.
The mostly on-line course that i took with him, i didnt crack that textbook once. The only reason you had to pay $117 for it was to get some stupid code on the inside cover to get the online homework done that was worth like 20% of your grade.
Lopez is the easiest, the best Math instructor I've had in DAC. I took 1C with him, got perfect quizes,hw plus all strong A testes (the lowest one was 94... lol... time to show off). Final is extremely easy (I think). Overall, BEst Best Best one.Highly recommended. He is also handsome. hheheheheheeh.
R Lopez is a man with a kind heart. Without a doubt he is the best teacher I ever had at DA for a long time. He is extremely kind that some students ridiculously take advantage of it. Shame to these students. Anyway, I highly reccomend R Lopez for your math classes especially if your not a fan of math but you need to take one to fulfill your GE REQ
he's really nice, but his tests are kinda hard, especially if u do not understand what he's teaching in class for at least 90%. To get a B is of course easy, but an A is questionable.
He is awsome, he really cares if you learn and he loves teaching math!(blah)
Let me make a brief comment. His exams are extremely hard. So if you dont want to put an effort studying, dont waste your time nor his time. You will not pass this class by just doing a last minute studying. Get the picture!
Highly recomended. must attend classes or you will fall behind. Take good notes. He loves teaching and he makes "math" fun...
Topics in math 1c are not easy, but he makes it fun and easy. I really enjoy his class. Quizzes and exams are easy, most of them just from homework. HOWEVER, he said he would not drop the lowest exam.
He's the best teacher I've ever had at De Anza! He simplifies difficult concepts into easily digestable pieces and makes every effort to instill in his students understanding of basic calculus fundamentals that'll prepare them for the higher math classes; he also tries to make real-word connections too. He does a Killer Job!
I am so grateful to get into Mr. Lopez's class. I've tried Math 114 twice and just couldn't understand the concept. Mr. Lopez enjoys teaching, and you can tell this everyday he walks into the class. He seriously wants you to learn and be sucessful. THANK YOU MR LOPEZ!!
he is an awesome teacher. he makes even had things easy to understand. He's probably one of the best math teachers at de anza
Do you think how old is he? I think he's hot, Is he married? because it seems like teaching is just his life. His teaching is excellent and fun. I wish I could take his class again. he is very patience and fair.
He's a extremely helpful, super nice, hot teacher with a great sense of humor. His tests are ok, just study for them. He changed my mind about math because I use to hate math so much, but now I like it. If you don't understand something don't be shy to ask him, he's always glad to help out his students. Too bad he doesn't teach MATH 10 anymore, I'd
Mr. Lopez is BY FAR the best teacher I have had at De Anza. His class is independant yet he is willing to run over to you if you raise your hand for help. He has T.A's that help his out too who really know what they are doing. He is unconsciensly funny! I honestly sucked in math, I never passed a math class until I had him! TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
If you hate math, take Mr. Lopez. After a horrible 112 teacher( prof.Moise) I was terrified of math. He is so easy to understand, puts up fantastic notes, gives easy quizzes and tests, and doesnt give too much homework, although it is nightly.I only wish I could take him for stats. If you have any worries, leave them at the door. I got an A.
Mr. Lopez is an extremely effective Algebra teacher. Having not passed a math class since middle school, I took his class and got an A. His explanations are very clear. 11 homework assignments, he only counts ten. He gave us reviews before tests for five extra points that he adds to our test scores. Take notes and do homework!Show upfor classdaily!
Hes such a good teacher and he explains things clearly..after taking another teacher Doli i feel like he is much much more easiler, too bad he's not in DeAnza next year!!!i can't take his class in Math1b...he is a very nice guy!!!midterms a not too hard..and go straight from wat he teach in class and textbook example
Although he is a good instructor, be aware that half his class is at lab working on Enable Math online. This makes his lectures rushed and the Enable Math program is pain because of the way it works, you have to have your answers "fit" what the computer can read and many times it gets confusing and wastes times. Stay away from enable math classes!
Hilarious guy. Easy class but good preparation for trig/precal. I like how he wrinkles his forehead and his eyebrows look funny while he's lecturing, as if in deep thought even everything is so easy to him. Overall I hope this guy gets lots of hot women because he is totally awesome at teaching and life in general.
Great teacher. The course I took was an enable math course which is a love or hate experience. half of the class took place in the lab and the rest was lecture. The Syllabus makes him seem unforgiving and mean but he is very nice. Although there was alot of computer work, he isn't what one would call tech savvy in any way so beware. Recommended.
Great teacher! He really cares about each of his students. Used Enable Math so you either like it or you don't. If you ask for help in lab, he goes over the problem with you until you understand. He is very funny and hot! This was my favorite course all year. His class fills up quickly.
Lopez is a GREAT teacher! He explains really well and gives a lot of examples.I took his class for summer and it was mainly EnableMath and no textbook. The EnableMath program sucks, but he knows it too lol.He is very understanding and patient and he's even more helpful when you come during office hours for extra help.He makes math easy and bearable!
well, hes a great teacher I hated math until i took his class, just whatever you do, dont text in his class he get a little cranky about that but about everything else hes a fantastic teacher and hes hott!! if he was teaching an earnier 114 class next quarter id for sure take him.
Extremely compassionate, fair teacher. His office hours are extremely useful and he helps out a lot if needed. If you take some kind of initiative, he will do everything in his power to make sure you do well. Just an very nice guy who will help those who care.
he will make u clear, interested on his class.talk him. And he is handsome.
he's a really good teacher I suggest taking him..The tests and quizzes are similar to the homework problems so you know what that means...get on it.
Clearly, the math1A reviews are from students who are mad that they didn't pass the class by slacking off. He does grade hard, but the problems are from the homework, but with different numbers. So don't bash the teacher just because you slacked off or ditched so many times. Be grateful that Lopez is one of the few good math teachers at De Anza
great teacher! just dont be lazy and slack off! test/exams can be difficult! just study study
Best teaching method. He do problems by showing you step by step. He collects hw. which push u to do them (it's for ur own good, pratice make perfect!) Tests are tricky if you don't know how to do hw. Make sure you do ur hw and know the concept instead of trying to memorize the step to do it. Strongly recommend!!
He is just a great instructor .He will make you understand each concept in a easy and detailed way telling some history behind it .
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE HIM! Really though, he is a sweetheart! You can tell teaching is his life and he is here to help his students. I struggled in the class, (DO NOT TAKE DURING SUMMER) but I still enjoyed his lectures and his personality overall.
umm.. how can i say.. it seems not a hard class.. but it is a lot of hw.. too much.. if you want to take his class.. you have to prepare to do hard in his class
Do the practice test, do your homework, turn in projects & lab. Study & utilize his office hours & utilize tutors. You will succeed in his class. He does give tons of homework, be prepared. You will succeed in his class. Bottom line, @ the end of the quarter, the grade you earn is dependent upon the effort & work you invested in the class. Don't blame on the teacher.
I took Mr.Lopez for math 212 and he is the best teacher that ive ever had. He explains everything clearly and is very helpful. The homework is not worth too much but definatly helps on tests and quizzes. I wish he was teaching 114 so I could take him again. TAKE HIM FOR MATH 212!!
ONE OF THE BEST! I just love the way he explains and teaches ! But I have to admit, earning an A is tough.
He is one of the best professor's out there. Goes out of the way to help his students!
He is by far the best math teacher i have ever had! he knows what hes doing and he is so helpful and understanding of everyone. Homework everyday but not overwhelming. Has a good sense of humor and is always happy to be teaching, hes an adorable nerd
He will help you out when you need help and you can tell that he really cares about his students. The only problem is that this quarter he is grading on a curve which benefits the students at the bottom and not the students at the top. Students that should be getting a B are getting a C and students who should be getting As are getting Bs.
He is a really good teacher. But now my 4.0 that I have had over 2 years is gone because of his curve. If you want to keep you GPA high, don't take this teacher.
Hes just alright. dont talk too much he doesnt like speaking in class, unless ur a boy. i coulda done better, i just didnt like him, do all ur hw. tests are very close to hw
He is a decent teacher. He's a nice guy, but , he isn't good at judging how long his tests should take. At our final about 80% of the students didn't get to complete the test!! There's something wrong with that...Do the homework and buy a stopwatch...you better be FAST!!
Best math teacher ive had...ever. clear and extremely helpful, not to mention his enthusiasm of math helps keeps the students alive and well too. he loves what he does and i would highly recommend him to any friend. will be taking future math classes with him.....btw his grading is really NOT that hard
His handout is very useful. His lecture is very clear and I don't need to read textbook if i have full attendance. He is a great teacher.
LOPEZ IS THE BEST!!!! Handouts are clear as crystal. Material quizzes are great b/c their group work. Tests are out of 100. He lectures on the back of his handouts and it feels like khan academy. He has a loud and clear voice. He's one of the best. You are lucky enough to get him as a professor... he is da bomb!!! Better than all the math teachers!
Great teacher. Like others have said he's extremely clear and really goes out of his way to make sure that you understand the material. I definitely recommend him!
The coolest teacher I've met! He is really understanding and lenient. I've arive late almost every day and he doesn't mind. He is a super nice guy and always going around helping people and answering every question.
I love his way of teaching, extremely helpful. He answers everyone's questions. I highly recommend his class. One of the best teachers at De Anza.
He is the best out of the best. very easygoing and helpful professor!! math is not my thing but i still managed to pass his class with a B. so :)
He is a very good, clear straight forward teacher. He works hard to grade hw/quiz/test in a timely manner. If you need help he sets aside time at the beginning of each class. If you show up, do hw and study you will get a good grade. He also gives a study pre quiz/test for each /quiz/test except the final.
why is his easiness rating so low? I took his math 114 class in the summer, and although the class moved at a very fast pace, i think everyone in the class passed. he is very clear and helpful and makes arrangements if anyone falls behind. quite a bit of work, but if you do it and study, you will get an A. there are no surprises in this class
He's pretty chill and helpful. Attendance is for our benefit
I've taken math at De Anza since 114, and got an A in every class until now, where I got a D. Lopez is a good professor for sure, so I think it's my fault for taking calc along with other hard classes. I was ~C for the whole quarter, but the final was really hard for me. :( Don't take too many hard classes at once is my message to you all I guess.
Richard Lopez is a very experienced Professor. I always appreciate every minute in his class. Mr. Lopez is a bit of a comedic, but at the same time he is very serious about his work and does not cut corners when teaching to his students. I recommend taking Mr. Lopez's class if you want to learn something and have fun doing it. A+.. Fast Shipping.
He is Awesome! He gives MidTerm Preview before every midterm, and they are easy. Just make sure you do your homework and revision, and you will be fine! He gives 10 pt extra credits before Final. The Final is also very easy, they are pretty same as the midterms and quizs. I finally got an A in this class.
He is extremely clear and so exceptionally thorough that you'll hardly have any questions to ask him if you've paid attention--he's also genuinely friendly and eager to help if you seek any additional advice! If you pay attention/do the homework/briefly study lecture notes and study guides before tests, you'll definitely ace it. He's adorable too!
I'm taking MATH114 during the Summer right now, and I would recommend taking his class. He's very easy going and explains math concepts clearly. I hate that it's a requirement to do EnableMath(a really stupid math program) but he's very lenient about it. DON'T GET THE TEXTBOOK. He'll take attendance on the first week, doesn't care after that.
Mr. Lopez is a great teacher. He answers all the questions you might have and he changed the final because we didn't want to do part of it without a calculator. He's very encouraging and doesn't assign too much homework. Make sure you register because there are people out the door trying to add even past the wait list!
Currently taking MR. Lopez, summer is moving fast, there is a lot of work, but what do you expect during summer session? He is very helpful, i've had other math teachers and by far he is the best! I would highly recommend him. Also, do not buy the textbook.
Take him! I just love this professor. He is so nice. Quizes, Midterms, and Final Exam are easy. Just pay attention and enjoy his relaxing Math class. Recommend!!
easy A! just make sure you register his class AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, since his classes are always full... classes are so enjoyable with easy midterms and exams :)
One of the best, most helpful professors I have taken in a really long time, super easy going and clear.
He's a teacher that obviously know whats he doing and is very clear. He is always willing to help you and answer your questions and you can ask him questions in class and he will respond to them. A great teacher overall highly recommended.
He is very clear with what he does, obviously knowing what he knows. He uses very interesting methods to show us and helps us understand. Although, he should be a little bit more advance and he sometimes goes slow so don't you worry, it has a good cause.
Mr. Lopez was the best teacher I've ever had. He is an easy grader and gives you extra credit. He explains everything really well and I definitely recommend him!
He's my top 2 favorite professor. He cares for his students and explains everything clearly step by step. He's a wonderful professor, there's homework due and his midterms are okay if you study. He's not boring and really good to look at. I only wish he r Taught in higher math levels.
Please please please, join his class... Very enjoyable, although for some people like me, it would be too too too too easy, yet I still enjoyed it.
Coming from someone who hates math in general, Professor Lopez teaches a math class extremely well. He is lenient on a few due dates but you always have the motivation to want to finish the homework. Goes over test material, helps you work on homework, reviews quizzes, and gives you easy concepts to study from. Easily one of the best instructors.
My Math 44 experience is ruined thanks to a guy named Andrew who is sitting in front of the class. How could Mr. Lopez let this guy on a distraction rampage is beyond me. On the other hand, Mr. Lopez is really helpful, and clear with the materials most of the time.
Lopez definitely cares about getting his students ahead. He'll always make time for any and all questions. He's also very engaging. If you need a teacher who will care about you, he's your guy.
Professor Lopez really cares that you do well. He gives ton of opportunities to do well in his class and extremely helpful. Provides his office hour help and if you do your homework, can't get lower than B. Very nice person in general. I would take him again in heartbeat. Best Teacher!
Very clear professor. Will take the whole class to answer your homework questions if you want. Class structured as review hw, lecture, break, lecture cont. Quizzes aren't too bad and he takes problems from the homework/quiz to use on the test. Probably my favorite math professor at De Anza, he has some cheesy jokes that crack me up.
He goes over theorems to explain how equations are derived. For Trig he helps you set a solid foundation. He does however require you to not use calculators for some parts or have formulas with you for tests. You will learn a lot from his class but might do poorly grade-wise because Trigonometry is a tough subject. Lopez is highly recommended!
I truly wish I can have him for all of my math classes. He is SO king to student and really wants them to learn and do well. He'll answer any problems you have and he writes down all the steps. He is also very lenient on due dates.
He explains everything thoroughly and wants students to do well. He is somewhat funny, and also lenient on due dates.
Professor Lopez is one of the sweetest guys I've ever met! He's always willing to go over hw problems in class and he also lists all the steps (no matter how long/ridiculous the problem is). His tests & quizzes are questions from the hw so study the hw and you should be fine!
Professor Lopez is such a sweet and caring professor. He wants his students to succeed and helps in doing this. He is very understanding and makes the math material seem easier. I would definitely recommend taking him for any math course. His class is clear cut, do the HW and show up to class and you'll be fine. One of the best math professors.
He is the most sweetest professor EVER! He really wants all his students to pass and you can always go to him for help! He always explains each problem step by step which made problems easier to understand. If you do all the homework you will definitely pass his quizzes and test. Take him!
He taught class is ok, but he is a really difficult teacher, and he never care about students grade, I think that's why he never had any eye contact with students, and also that's in my class most of the student "NO PASS" , if your math super well, then take it. I will never take his class again.
Took his class Just wasted my time. If you took his class, you will be no pass. And also don't believe him through his appearance, he is not a good teacher, and also like someone said, I hate a teacher even without eye contact with us. Such disrespect students. If you take it, you will regret it.
After 2 years haven't taken Math, 1A seems pretty challenging for me. Professor Lopez is super nice and sweet. Lectures are really interesting. But If you want to an A, be ready to spend a lot of time outside of the class. There are only around 7-8 people get an A from his class and the average of the class is 70% which is barely pass. Take him!
I had Mr. Lopez 212 in the fall and 114 in the winter. Unfortunately, Mr. Lopez is not teaching either 41 or 10 in the spring quarter or else I would continue to take him again. I didn't miss any of his classes, so if you want an A grade, don't miss his class too. With his teaching and lecture, it helps me to prepare for my next math classes.
DO NOT TAKE. I was a 4.0 student and I struggled a lot in this class. He is nice and easy to talk to, but he is a super tough grader. He goes over the easy examples in class and puts hard problems on the exams. Get ready to spend hours outside of class studying. Unless you have taken math 1a before, i do not recommend him. His class avg is 70%...
His lecture is clear and he is willing to answer all questions. I enjoyed having his class. BUT his tests are HARD and he is a tough grader. He will give free extra credit if the entire class did bad on tests. Actually every test he gave 5 points free for us, cause most of us got 60 out of 100. If you are super clever, take him.
TOUGH grader!!!
Hard Grader. I have to thank you for ruining my GPA! he does the simple problems in class, and puts the hardest problems on the final exam. FYI!!
Even though his average class is 60%-70%, he does not curve the class. he is there to ruin your GPA.
Tough grader!! He will surprise you on the final exam. our average class was 60%-70%, and he didnt curve, therefore either students failed or their gpa went down.
There are no A students in his dictionary. Trust me. This guy is interested in ruining students' GPA. An excellent student will still be evaluated as BCDF student with the standard of M.r Lopez. Come on, lower your standard before teaching!
He is an incredibly tough grader. He barely gave any partial credit. The average on exams was always a 60% He ruined my GPA and a lot of other students GPAs too. Don't fall into the trap. Avoid him. People who say he is good were just the teachers pets who like him more as a person than a teacher
Best math teacher I've ever had. Bad at math? Don't bother taking him. Math takes practice, if you don't put in the work you won't learn anything. Anyone who whines about him being a overly hard grader obviously just wants an easy A. That being said, tests are long and hard, so be prepared. Doesn't collect hw so tests+quizzes count as all the grade
If you want to get a good grade, do not skip his office hours; You will know the exact questions on the test. His tests are hard, and he wont give any partial credit. Dont waste your time.
Worst math class ever. He does not have a control over the class. Everybody is chatting while he is lecturing, he does not say anything. Sorry for him.
He expects you to know everything in math before walking to his class. His appearence is completely different than what he actually is. He is there to RUIN your GPA. I will never take his class again.
Took his class for the second time last quarter and decided to be the last class with him. I was not expecting him to be ridiculously a tough grader. You should avoid him.
I regret taking his class last quarter. He doesn't make eye contact with any student and his lecture is not clear. So, I wouldn't recommend him to you.
Do NOT take Lopez. You will regret a lot. He drops students' GPA down and really enjoys that. No matter how excellent a student is, there is NO WAY to get a good grade from him. Kick him out from your consideration when register fo the classes. If you want to transfer successfully, get out from him.
Great teacher. He will prepare you for 1B.
Absolutely Horrible. He ruins your gpa without any hesitation. no matter how hard you try, Lopez is gonna get you!
He will prepare you for 1B with a grade of F or C. Good luck if you take him.
He's a very thorough teacher who can get concepts thru crystal clear. He is a tough grader, but I do believe he's fair. He obviously made some students mad by giving low grades, but with the right level of effort there's no reason you should get below a B. I'm not sure I'll find another math teacher that prepares you so well for the next level!
He is absolutely tough grader. I have to say, I am a Chinese. I believe everyone knows Chinese people are good at Math, I always get A in my math classes. but Lopez didn't. He ruined every students GPA and even did not care about. Don't take his class , even you're Chinese.
Extremely difficult to get a good grade. Don't register his math1A. You will regret ALOT
Math212 is not hard but if leave it to Lopez, it becomes super hard then. Don't take him. Absolutely tough grader. No doubt ever.
His class is so difficult. He doesn't want to understand his students, assigns super low grades all the time. I am pretty sure that Lopez feels thrilled when his students get upset. terrible teacher
Im an A student in math, but i found his class to be really hard to pass. I had to drop his class because he does not care about your GPA. i have no idea why i took his class among the other 1A classes, won't make this mistake again.
Do not register his class. He was the best math instructor but maybe he decided to ruin his students' GPA. He ruined not just one student, what he did is he assigned CCCC DFDF. Please go ask some 4.0 students, their GPA was dropped down either by Lopez. Good luck if you take him
SOOOOOOO HARD.! Do not take him. He is a ridiculously tough grader for sure. No homework points, no partial credits, no extra credits offered, plus HARD tests and quizzes. Take him if you want F. Good luck
He is one of the worst math instructors in de anza. He doesnt understand that math could be difficult to students. DONT TAKE HIM
don't take him. he is a Horrible Teacher. he does not care about students.
Do Not Take Him if you care about your gpa. Thats all i can say about him. Other than that, he is a nice guy who doesn't look at you in the eyes when he talks. Good luck to y'all.
He is a super tough grader. don't take him
He's the best math teacher I've ever had. Don't listen to the haters, he's not that hard. He puts questions that were on the hw on the test. Unless you're terrible with math you will do fine.
Take Lopez. He is EXCELLENT. If you are not good at math, he is your guy because his lectures are super clear and he explains all materials extremely specific and clear. He is NOT a tough grader. The point here is students didn't put effort and all they did is blame on their instructor. Lopez is the best out of the best
M.r Lopez is a really sweet instructor. He tries his best to convey how does trig work. He also put those different trig examples and explains step by step with much patience. Just do your homework and understand the concepts. You will get an A easily. Take him if u can
I have taken him all the way up to math1A and the most impressive one is math 42. He should be awarded as a teacher who can explain math way much easier ans more clear than itself. Go take him. He is perfect
Mr lopez does not know what he is talling about in class. Avoid him
please take this professor. He is wonderful . You will learn a lot from his math 42 class which is very helpful to your math 1A in the future. awesome instructor and easy tests. absolutely straightforward
Mr Lopez is the best math teacher in De An za. Go take him and you will be surprise with how organized and clear he is. Quizzes and tests are super easy as long as you put a little bit effort on study. I will take his math 43 and 1A if he teaches those . Highly recommended
His class is awesome and he is not as horrible as other hates commented. He is quite generous on grading and it's impossible for you to mess up those tests because his lectures are super clear, so we can do pretty well on quizzes and tests. Trust me. Go try him and you will realize what I mean
Oh. We all love this professor. He assigns extra credits, gives super clear and simple lectures. His tests are not hard at all because it's all from our homework. He doesn't collect homework though, so you need to kinda control yourself and do all homework. the most helpful instructor who I have ever taken. Low grades are your problem, not his
We all love him in this class. I enjoyed math42 and I just feel that I am so lucky to have Lopez as my math instructor. Perfect class ever.
Take Lopez. You will enjoy his class like I did. I will take his math 1B
I am so happy that I am taking Mr Lopez's class. He is humorous, super clear about the concepts and he gave us very easy tests. I will take him with pre calculus. Highly recommended.
The best teacher in De An za. Struggling with math? He is your guy then. Go register his class, you won't regret it. Recommend!!!!!
This professor is Super tough. I do not recommend him
I had him with math 42 and math 1A. His 42 is excellent. It's just extremely clear and easy to follow, but his 1A is tricky though. Take him if you need 42, but avoid him with math 1A
Take him with math 42. You will enjoy it from very beginning to the end. students do not like him is all because of his math 1A class, NOT math 42. Easy A class for sure
He is the best teacher ever for math 42 which is trig. He will le you step by step about how to get those formulas eventually. Easy tests and quizzes and he also assigns some extra credits and bonus problems, but those are hard. Overall, recommend a lot. I will take his math 43
For people who say he is the best professor, wait untill you take the final exam and you will change your mind surely.
Amazing instructor. He is nice and generous. I really enjoyed my 1A with him. Take him and see how it is actually.
Nice class! His class is interesting and clear. If you want an instructor who gives clear lectures. Take Lopez
Recommend him. He will help you always and his class is organized, clear and interesting. He has amazing sense of humor. Take him
I had his 1A last quarter and I learned alot. This instructor is pretty fair and clear. He knows what he teaches. His tests and quizzes are not hard as long as you finish your homework. The point here is students rarely do their homework because he doesn't collect it. That's why their grade went down and LOPEZ becomes a tough grader.
Lopez is the best teacher out of the best. really clear, so I do recommend him for any levels math.
the best math class in De An za. Take him.
His class is awesome. Take him in the afternoon, the early evening class is much better because the in first one, he always let us go home earlier in order to help those students who are in his second class. take 6pm 7 pm would be perfect.
Perfect instructor
Take him. His class is amazing
Mr. Lopez is hands down the best math teacher I've ever had. His lectures are a little on the fast side but he will stop class at any time to answer questions, but he's super clear and will stop class to explain it until you understand. Super helpful during office hours, genuinely a nice guy, I STRONGLY recommend!
Students who can get an A or A- from him are all genius!. Amazing lectures, nice personality, willing to help, BUT! He is a tough grader for sure
His final exam was hard and didn't look anything like we had done on midterms. Avoid him
The best math teacher definitely. Doing ALL homework is the key point to get straight "A" in his class
Excellent teacher. Lopez is the best math instructor for sure. I am taking his math1A and I enjoy sooooo much. No pop quizzes ever, super clear lectures and he does answer all questions during the class. Assigns extra credits, homework won't be collected, but if you understand all HW problems, A+ will be guaranteed. Take him
His lectures and notes are really easy, the tests and quizzes aren't hard,. He gives homework every week and he goes into great review of what you're learning the day before a quiz/test. He is open to students asking questions if they're having trouble.
3 midterms 6 quizzes 2 are group quizzes and drops the lowest quiz score. Homework isn't graded. His lectures are crystal clear and he is always there for you when you need help. He doesn't get annoyed when students ask even basic questions. His tests are quite difficult. Don't underestimate even if you do well on the homework and quizzes.
The best teacher at De An za. Extremely helpful and nice. He can make many jokes to make the whole class to be relaxing. If I can get a chance to rank professors, Lopez would be the number one there. Go take him
I'm absolutely terrible at math, but Richard has actually allowed me to actually enjoy math. He lays everything out for you and the homework is actually easier harder than his tests and quizzes. His tests are basically the quizzes put all in one. Homework isn't too bad either. He's a really great teacher! I'm taking his Math 114 class next quarter
I took Calculus in High School and got an A. But, I am doing relatively bad in this class. I did all of his homework problems. He put so many proofs on his tests. It's crazy. He doesn't realise this class this class is Math 1A and not Real Analysis.
The best math class I have never imagined that calculus could be sooooo easy. Take this instructor. you will get an A
He is very humorous and nice. I am so glad that I am taking calculus class with him. Highly recommended
Professor talks really fast and doesn't really explain well. Tests and quizzes are tough even if you study. You pretty self teach yourself. Do not take this professor.
Lopez is the best teacher in my life. Very clear lectures and easy tests. He talks kinda fast but you can stop him any time and ask him. He will answer it clearly with patience. His quizzes are easy and tests are just ok. People who say he is because they don't do HW and understand it since Lopez doesn't collect HW. Test problems are all from HW
Mr Lopez is the best out of the best definitely.
The best teacher that I have ever known. Super helpful and kinda humorous too . Highly recommend.
He is an excellent teacher. He is very helpful, cooperative as well as knowledgeable. You do have to do homework if you want to pass the exam or to pass the class because questions are similar to homework problems. Also, review the questions that he went over lectures because some of those appears in exam too. I recommend taking him.
Take him. His class is awesome
This professor is excellent but he talks sooooooo FAST which is too tough for most students especially international one to understand. Slow down the speed please. Other than that, best out of the best
Loved his class. Even though I hate math with a burning passion, Mr. Lopez made me understand the subject so much better than any other math teacher!
The best math teacher ever. Lopez doesn't give any pop quizzes. Super clear lectures and easy quizzes. Quizzes are from homework but he does not collect homework. He even gave us extra credit points on group quizzes and put" if your group can get perfect on this problem, extra credits will be granted" Tests are ok and very easy to get A. Recommend
I took his statistics class long time ago and I think he is a really patient and nice guy. You will enjoy his class a lot
To start off, like any math class, YOU HAVE TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK. No teacher will be able to help you if you slack off. With that said, Professor Lopez is probably one of the best Math 1A teachers. In a way where his tests are appropriate level of difficulty and not so easy that you'll fail 1B. He is very friendly and helpful. Also great lectures!
Hw not graded but u need to do it to pass. He moves really fast but his tests are pretty reasonable. He expects you to get all the details tho so be prepared! He spends too much time saying how 1B is harder or it gets worse lol. Pretty good probably one of the strongest at de anza for calc Would take him! Good luck!
He is probably one of the best De Anza teachers. He really tries to make you understand.
way too much hw, rushes through materials, exams are somewhat doable except the final, which is very cumulative and basically everything covered from day 1. That said, it could screw you at the end. offers a few extra credits.
tests heavily on the word problems such as related rates etc. tough grader.
exams are kind of easy at first, then they get progressively harder. I was an solid A before the final, but I ended up with a B. pretty fast lecturer, must keep up with his speed and learn solo
6 quizzes, 3 exams and 1 final, a piece of work. if you have the drive to self study everyday for 3-4 hours including doing the hws, you should be fine. hws are long and tedious. AND he said he was thinking about adding 1 more exam, which makes it a total of 4 exams, undroppable. so Good Luck!
Lopez is a very good instructor for calculus class. I took his math42 and math1A and he never gives us more than 3 exams and does not collect HW. He is a wonderful lecturer but seems kinda lazy though, so if you like someone does not push you to turn in assignments, he is your guy
His class will be the easiest out of the bunch, BUT it is still calculus so you HAVE TO WORK FOR AN A. There wont be an EASY A. It will just be easier than other teachers only because he can explain the material very well. Show him that you genuinely care it will go a long way. He is a really cool guy. Go to office hours!
I genuinely hated math and put off taking it for a while but oh man i'm so glad I took it with Mr. lopez. The lectures are super clear and he's very good at explaining. For the first time i actually understood what was going on in my math class and knew what I was doing. We need more professors like him!!
Realy Amazing Teacher!! Loves his job and is very good at explaining. The best math teacher i have had at DE ANZA
I took this class during the summer which correlated to why I chose the "4" rating on difficulty. Richard cares about his student's success. He set aside 15 minutes during his summer schedule to help me with problems. If he made a mistake to his grading he'll apologize and change the grade right away. Awesome professor!
Took him for math 42 in the summer. this man loves trig and it shows. Really clear teaching, but FAST. ended with an A- just because of one poor performance on the second exam. That being said, I learned more than any other math professor I've ever had and plan on taking him again for calc.
I took his class in summer. Although it was fast, but he made clear points to explain everything. Do not need to hand in homework, but it is definitely gonna help you with tests and quizzes. Two memories quizzes, 5 quizzes can use calculator, and three exams. There were similar questions in former test in final. So, it's pretty easy.
He's probably one of the best professors! He goes through lecture super fast but make sure you copy everything so you can understand it at home. his quizzes are okay, but test are long. You can tell that he really loves teaching. Strongly recommend him!
He's fair but tough. Assigns a lot of hw per day and you have to do it to prepare for the tests but he doesn't collect it. Goes over hw questions during the class, lectures are good and clear if not fast. POINT SYSTEM. Without hw in the grade there is no room for error if you're aiming for an A. 6 quizzes (drop 1), 3 tests, 1 final 550 pts total.
what he teaches at class is way too different than what he tested you on. he goes over materials so fast. he never answer your email. at exams and quizzes, each question has 5 to 10 point. so, missing a question means missing 10 points. There is no extra credit at his class and there is no point for doing homework. i do not recommend him!
Extremely passionate about Math. Wants to make sure everyone passes. Tests are long and tough. If you're the type of person that needs to learn Math in a very SLOW pace, don't take this class. He goes through everything really fast. Our class is 2 hours long and we're out of there in an hour. Grades extremely TOUGH. Extremely caring and respected
Lopez is a great professor! Very approachable. He really cares about his students and is passionate about math. He lectures at a fast pace so beware of that. 6 quizzes, 3 tests, 1 final. Study well for each test, 1A is not an easy class. Go to his office hours when u can, and always come to class. He can be lenient. Highly recommend taking him!
Kind man, quizzes and tests were ok. Had a hard time learning in his class bc he never gave a practice prob/ ex for us to try to do on our own after teaching the content. Hmwrk isn't collected, but is a must to understand the work. Some quizzes are given in a group (thankfully), and he offers tons of e/c. Handouts allowed on quiz, test, and final!
Lopez is an amazing, fun, caring Math professor who makes himself available to students who find themselves struggling in class and his personality makes it easy to ask questions. After taking seven years off school I thought I was gonna struggle but in his class I got an easy A by just doing all the work on time. Do the work and you will get an A.
Lopez was a decent instructor at De Anza.I like how hes easy to catch up, if I ever did fall behind. I dislike how he speeds through lessons and wants to end class early. Sometimes its cool, but sometimes I actually got screwed over in the lesson. Tests were decent, never scored lower than a B. I did all my homework and showed up to class and got A
The most humble and down to earth Professor at De Anza. Has a great personality and a cool temperament . I wish I could take Professor Lopez for Math 41 but he usually teaches Math 42 and 43. If he sees a student putting in effort he will definitely reward you with a good grade. Thank you Professor...
Test are everything in here. He doesn't collect HW, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't do it. He does show you step by step on how to solve a problem. Don't fall behind on assignments or it will pile up to quickly for you to catch up. He is very clear in processes on how to solve an equation though, one of the best math teachers at De Anza.
Worst professor i've ever had! Wost out of the worst! He doesn't know anything about math. I went to his office hour ask question and he didn't know the answer.
Easy A, i only went to his class during midterms and final. Still got A cuz i've already know the material. You definitely learn nth from him. If you just start doing calc, not recommend him. Take his 1A will screw your high level classes like 1B, 1C etc.
Stay away from Lopez. His class is hard and he is not a good person at all. Doubting too much
Whatever he teaches don't match exam. And doubt too much
I read the reviews before taking the class, and was frightened about him being and incompetent fool who would drop impossible tests. Now I just took his 1A after the 42 class, and I believe he is leagues better than every math teacher in De Anza. Clear about the problems he will put on the test, or pulls them from the homework or in class problems.
Felt like 1+1 in class, 1+3x4 on homework, and "Lim x-- 0 f(2x+5)/x " on exams. He collects hw, worth 5 pts per packet, allows you to turn them in late. Exams were crazy difficult, must think hard like jimmy neutron. Overall, he was a nice guy, easy going, but gave hard exams. Offers some extra credit. Gives partial credit if you wrote something.
He is really rude and impatient! i won't take him again. Too much homework.
He is ok but HARD
Excellent instructor. He explains concepts well and gives extra credit. Nice guy too.
Lopez goes through material very quickly, but explains concepts fairly well and clearly. I found the exams to be very difficult and not like the examples from class or homework. More of the curveball questions. There are 3 midterms, multiple quizzes, and 1 final with two parts (with calculator and without). He occasionally offers extra credit too.
I don't understand why people are saying his exams are hard? If you did the homework or even looked back at your quiz, you could clearly see the questions were very similar (many were the exact same). He always asks you what homework problems you need to go over. Lenient grader! E.C.! Memorize the unit circle and you're good (gives cheat sheet)
nice class. Lopez is a very caring professor. doable home work, easy quizzes but tests are hard. very enjoyable class overall
Do NOT TAKE him! Worst teacher ive ever had! If you dont want to get a D or F, then AVOID him!
Took his 42 before, bored class, for things he doesnt kn he just quickly rush through it. I DO NOT recommend him. Worst math teacher in De Anza. AVOID!
honestly wth he is the best professor ever if you put a bit of effort in your work you can easily get an A. i was getting an A- for the class but he bombed a hard ass midterm that i didnt study at all for and i fked it up (regretting it so much)so it went to a B LMAO kms but yes i would 10/10 take him again. he is soooo amazing lmao.
The professor is nice. Take him.
One of the nicest professors ever. He goes over stuff after class if you ask him to, he's really helpful during his office hours too. Plus, he also offers a ton of extra credit. Tests and Midterms may be tricky if you don't study.
I have taken Richard Lopez twice. For 41, & Calc 1A. The reviews that say his exams were really hard probably didn't study. Many students come onto here, and want an easy class (I have). I think he is a very good teacher. I enjoyed his lectures, & he will answer ANY questions you have. If you're consistent with hw & study, you should be fine!
Lectures are dull, boring, and robotic.
Hes a good professor! He knows how to make lectures interesting, and isnt dull. Heavy on homework, but it is helpful. He is understanding if you dont always get the homework done on time. Pay attention in class, do the homework, and you should be able to get an A. He is better than the negative feedback he received on here.
I had a full time job while doing 12 credits and I got an A from only attending class. He gives clear example in class, corrects homework at the beginning of class, go 1-1 to explain what you did wrong in the quiz, very good professor. Take him if you want to work in class only and still have a good grade
Awesome teacher. He knew what he was teaching and didn't get mad when he did a problem wrong. He was super nice about everything and it helped a lot. I hate math and his class was very helpful
Unlike other Math teachers, he teaches the concept and application of every topic. He assigns a lot of homeworks, but it is worth though as long as his exams are straight from the HW questions. No brainer needed to take his class... Good luck!
Richard Lopez is a definitely a great teacher as he always goes over the basics and proofs before he begins his lecture, homework is not mandatory but very helpful if you want to do well on the exam as some of the questions are on exams. He is a very caring professor never seen him belittle anyone if they need help. VERY HELPFUL TEACHER! TAKE HIM
oh classic
Taking his class was a challenging, but rewarding experience. He may assign a lot of homework but if you mange the time, youll be fine. His exams were pretty difficult, but office hours he will help you. He may throw curveballs, but a majority of them come from the book. I am satisfied with my grade because I am prepared for 1Bs expectations.
I took his 1A class several quarters ago and I'm taking 1C right now, he is one of the best profs I've ever had. He is really organized and clear with his lecture and schedule, cares a lot for the students and try to help by any means.
He's great. I hated math before his class, but he was super clear! He's totally willing to work with you, and he's a nice person. If you aren't that great at math, take his MPS class! I recommend him.
One of my favorite teachers in the math department! His teaching style is very clear and he is super helpful. He makes concepts easy to understand and spends a lot of time answering homework questions compared to other professors. His grading is very lenient; offering partial credit on quizzes and exams. An overall great professor!
Mr. Lopez was my favorite professors. He explains the concept well and will take his time explaining the material if the class doesn't understand it. Just remember to go to his office hours if you need help. Overall great and caring teacher.
A monotone voice makes the lectures feel heavy. It's ironic because we were studying waves. Although he is a good teacher, it was hard to stay focused because it felt like a Catholic church. lol
Great teacher. I took him for MPS Math 41. He really makes sure you understand the concept before continuing. I really appreciate how he cared for the class. Just do your homework ,go to office hours or tutoring. There is so much help at De Anza, so don't slack off. Just don't skip any classes because you'll miss a lot.
Lopez is a tough grader. His lectures are boring but long. Hard tests. Avoid him to save your money and time
At De Anza, he is the best math professor who really cares his students. His lectures are well organized and very clear. He explains everything in a professional manner. If you want to get a good grade and the best knowledge of math, he is the one. It is highly recommended to take his classes.
I really liked Mr. Lopez. I took him all year for precalc. His office hours are super helpful, I've always struggled with math and I learned so much in his class! Not going to lie, the tests are difficult and you have to study, but if you go to class and ask him when you're confused you can get a good grade.
Richard Lopez is the most horrible teacher I ever had. Lectures are boring bonded with hard tests. avoid him for your own sake.
It's very hard to find laid-back math teachers, lectures gave an overview but as with any math class, the learning responsibility is placed on you. It is still very much appreciated to have a chill professor.
I took him over the summer 2 years ago for precalc 2. He was very straight forward and clear what quizzes and tests would be. Overall nice and passionate dude. If you do the homework the exams are straight forward. Not an easy A but def an easy B at least.
Richard Lopez has clear notes and reviews past material needed for everyday's lecture. Quizzes are based on homework questions and tests are based on quizzes. Homework is graded but I believe he doesn't look at them that closely but you should do it since it helps a lot. Gives out notes for each lecture and allows for some notes for tests.
Quarantine Zoom Edition! 10/10 WOULD TAKE PROF LOPEZ AGAIN. Prof Lopez is such a patient, approachable, and caring professor who's always willing to help his students. As someone who has severe math anxiety, he makes concepts surprisingly very easy to understand. 4 tests, 7 quizzes (5 material - lowest will be dropped - & 2 memory), 1 final.
Professor Lopez genuinely cares about his students' success and is more than willing to help his students succeed in Calculus. He explains concepts clearly in his lectures. As long as you really study, do and understand the homework, you should do fine in his exams. Take Lopez if you want to build a great foundation in Math.
He is a very good professor. Very approachable after class. If you have any test questions you want him to go over he will solve it on his notepad and give it to you so you can look at what you did wrong. He also let's you use 2-3 lecture sheets on exams.
I took Prof Lopez for both MATH 42 & 1A thru Zoom and I really really appreciate this man. He's very approachable, patient & understanding when explaining concepts & answering q's - 10/10 would recommend for people who are afraid of math. He records lectures, 6 quizzes (lowest dropped), 3 exams, 1 final (all open note). I wish he taught 1B next qtr
Easily the best math professor at De Anza, not too hard, but hard enough. Funny and a great teacher. If you take him for fall quarter you will get extra credit for wearing a costume to class.
His class with very clear examples, and easy to understand. If you have questions do not be shy to ask him. He will help!! I will take his class again if he teach the next level. Do the homework or review the lecture lead you easy to pass tests and quiz!
Like this professor!! His lectures has very clear examples, and he made Math easy to understand!! Do the homework and ask questions will help students do well on tests!!
The best professor at De Anza.
The study, study study. Or you will not pass the Finals, which is very hard. But as for me, I will welcome you into the A student club once you have persevered.
Professor Lopez is a very good professor that explains concepts in the simplest way for you to understand. If you have trouble with math I recommend you take him. 100% would take a class with him again.
Take the tests seriously. Lopez live proctors and answers questions for the tests. Most of the lectures focus on doing example problems.
Took this course over the summer hoping to knock out my Pre-Calc before fall quarter (Nope). The tests and quizzes are your entire grade & if your motivation to do homework is incentive based like mine, you will struggle. I can not recommend this class over the summer, it's too much information at once with a system of teaching I do not jibe with.
Lopez teaches well. clear lectures, easy tests, take hime
Although his lectures are long, Professor Lopez explains the concepts well and answers all questions during lectures. You can always ask him to clarify concepts and is good at cracking jokes. I would love to take him for Math 1b, but he does not teach that class for Winter 2022.
Amazing Lecture! Explain all the concepts very well.4 tests, 4 quizzes, 2 memory quiz and 1 final. However, quizzes and tests are based on homework and problem solved during the lectures. Take good notes and you'll be fine. Very kind and always feel respected. Extra Credit and bonus ques in tests.
There are 5 quizzes, 2 memory quizzes, and 4 tests in total. He will drop the quiz with the lowest mark. They are fairly easy, just pay attention in class and you'll pass! Homework is not mandatory but do them if you can. Professor Lopez is funny sometimes and he is very understanding. Arrangements are flexible if you talk to him about it.
no homework, ez quiz(ans can be found in exercise), ez exam(ans can be found in quiz), will ans all question u ask
Very good lectures and will answer any question you have.
Prof. Lopez is great! He gives partial credit when grading and is super nice. He explains everything really well and there are no surprises on tests and quizzes. He's approachable and cares about students. Take him!
Mr. Lopez is by far the best professor I have had for math. He gives his full attention to students if they struggle to understand material. If you want to pass the class make sure to pay attention to lectures, do homework even though it is not mandatory because it will help 100% in exams, & attend office hours. By far the best class environment.
He's really nice. I never do his HWs (even once) and just pay attention to his lectures and take notes. He gives handouts a.k.a formula sheet b4 hand. His exams and quizzes r open book and literally just like what he explained with diff numbers.
Hes a real gem. AMAZING!!!
Can't say enough good things. I'm horrible at math and he was super patient and was willing to meet me in office hours a lot, plus his lectures are very clear and understandable. Overall, a truly amazing professor and one of the best at De Anza. Pretty standard workload. If you have to take math, take Mr. Lopez!!!
The best, the most patient, and the most inspiring professor. He had changed my attitude to math from hate to love.
He's a GEM. And he explains the problems so clearly that I don't need to rewatch his videos. He is the best. I would like to take every Math class with him.
I liked him, but yeah his lectures are dull, but more in the dorky makes jokes that are funny because they aren't funny type of way. I recommend you go over tests with him, he almost always gives points back, I think it matters that you attend office hours if you do you will do well, otherwise won't recommend it. But I liked him alot.
I had a lot of anxiety in the start of the class due to the grade being based only on quizzes and tests. But things turned out good because the homework was the content on the tests. I recommend Organic Chemistry Tutor on YouTube and any other precalc channel on YouTube to study. His lectures are awesome as well he is a great and kind teacher!
Professor Lopez makes Calculus so fun and easy - or I should just say all his classes are so enjoyable! He is a very caring and hilarious teacher. Just come to class regularly and you will pass easily, and do your home works (which we don't need to submit and aren't graded), you will get an A. Always dreaded Calculus, but hey, I am loving it now.
Absolutely awesome professor and charismatic. His class is like one long youtube video about a math subject with a whiteboard where he writes everything out and talks about it in a nice and simple way. Easy to follow along, easy to ask questions, easy to pass(if you practice).
The best one! Although it was a virtual class, he explains every chapter by writing on paper, not with PowerPoint. He explains the concepts very well & clearly. caring and understanding, approachable. There will be 7 quizzes, 3 tests, 1 final exam. I guarantee that you will not regret taking him.
Richard is a skilled math teacher. His lectures are detailed and he's very kind & caring towards his students. He always answers & acknowledges all of our questions. His quizzes & exams are reasonable & in fact easy if you study and do the homework. No homework is collected but assigned. Grades are based off exams and quizzes. Take him, he's great!
Pretty much a self-study teacher. This is an old fashion teacher as the test has to be handwritten. Points marked off a test, but won't tell me which question I got wrong. He is a really lazy grader. His lessons consist of useless pre-recordings from years ago.
Amazing teacher! His lectures are amazing to understand as long as you listen to them. He's hilarious, tells a lot of stories, and gives out extra credit. He's also a lenient grader. Take him if you want to succeed.
Professor doesn't tell you which question you got wrong on the test. He just gives you a score and you just have to deal with it. Its hard to learn from your mistakes if you didn't know what question you got wrong in the first place.
Despite having learnt most, if not all of the material in this class when I was in high school, I still found Mr Lopez's lectures very interesting and not boring, as his style of teaching is incredibly good. As long as you pay attention to his classes and review the quizzes he gives, you should be able to score very well in his tests.
Very very very cool guy. 7 quizzes total, and 3 midterms and a final. Pretty easy (although I knew about the stuff beforehand). I took his class asynchronous, and it was a breeze.
Professor reuses his lectures. He does pop quizzes. Not a bad teacher, but would be a lot better if they weren't pop quizzes because this is supposed to be a TBA class
Professor Lopez is a good teacher, I had two quarters with him. He provides extra credits and asks students if they have any questions at any time of the class.
One of the best teaching professors I have met. Asynchronous course, his video lectures are detailed, and he always appears enthusiastic and patient. But quiz and exams are difficult to me, you need to ensure that the results are correct to get points. And the loss points are invisible, which means you have to ask him every time.
The test is way harder than the homework questions. I need more time to finish the test. Otherwise a good professor. Also, the test are assigned at random times. sometimes 6pm sometimes 4 pm
His lectures are amazing and he is always willing to explain if you don't understand anything that he taught. Overall a great teacher.
The test is on some random math questions that he never taught. He makes this class difficult for no reason. He forgot to post the final exam and worried our whole class. What kind of professor forgets to post the final?
Professor is friendly, but the homework covered is way harder than what he teaches. He also doesn't give any answers for the homework he provides. Tests are harder than what the lesson covers, even though he says otherwise. His lectures are understood generally most of the time but the materials in the tests and quizzes are not easy.
Very good at teaching. I had already learnt the majority of this course's material in highschool, but Professor Lopez's teaching style wad very engaging so I wasn't bored.
Chill dude, easy-to-understand lectures, and lenient. Let me submit a quiz a week after it was due because I forgot about it. Tests were okay, quizzes were short and easy. He takes forever to reply to emails so I would recommend office hours.
Hw is not graded, but optional (a few are extra credit) so you're only graded on tests and quizzes. His lectures are somewhat easy to understand 85% of the time, but the hw problems he assigns are somewhat harder than what his lesson covers. Tests also has some very similar problems to the hw, but they're often hard to solve.
Overall, pretty good! There was very little direct communication since it was online async, but Prof. Lopez assigned a reasonable amount of homework and was available for office hours support. The tests and quizzes (especially later on) are notably more difficult than what's assigned for homework, so some may need extra support.
6 quizzes (can drop 1) & 3 tests. quizzes are based off hw and are 4 questions long. tests have abt 8 questions. he let us use 2 sheets of paper as a cheat sheet for the final. handouts can be used during tests/quizzes. test questions can be hard. not a fan of his teaching style but he's nice and helpful, he also offers xtra credit
kind professor
Great Professor! His Math 32 course was so easy. Your grades are based on quizzes and tests, but he prepares you well. He provides note taking pdfs to go with the lecture videos which help with the homework. Homework is not graded but if you do the homework, you basically pass the quizzes and tests.
Prof Lopez is the best math teacher I have ever had! He cares so much that his students succeed, and he really sets you up for success. He is so funny and engaging in class. The first half of the quarter, he will give you practice quizzes that accurately reflect what the quiz and test will be life. He drops the lowest quiz, and has extra credit.
Lectures are long but very straight. Homework is online and is not too much. He gives a lot of extra point and you can easily get your points back if you to office hours. Quizzes every sunday due at 11:56! Exams may repeats questions and everything can usually be done on your calculator. Made stats pretty enjoyable! Final 1 question from each chp!
Professor Lopez is a great professor, his lectures are very engaging and you can tell he is passionate about teaching. He does move a little fast (at least for me). This class is very homework heavy, however the homework really prepares you for the tests/quizzes. There is usually a quiz one week and a test the next.
If you miss one class it is incredibly hard to catch up. There was little you could do if you were confused and classes are fully lectures, you never talk to the people around you which is difficult as there is no sense of community. Mr. Lopez is kind though and funny.
Currently, a student at a four-year taking this class for credit. Definitely one of the best Math teachers I've ever had. Lectures are slightly fast-paced, but is very clear, and has no problems clarifying or going more in depth on each question. Also makes class entertaining with jokes here and there. Would take him again any day.
Professor Lopez is the best Math teacher I met as a high school student at De Anza college in Fall 2023. He teaches Math10 very clear with extra credits. His office hours is super popular. He is very nice and caring. He even used his spare time to guide me if my AP Calculus BC overlap with DA's Cal C. Lucky to have him as my first DA Math Teacher!
By far the best math professor I have had. He is amazing at teaching, he makes it easy to understand and always makes a big effort to encourage any questions you might have. Super sweet guy, and it's formatted in a way that makes it pretty easy for a Calc class. Take him if you can.
DON'T TAKE AS AN ONLINE COURSE, I've heard he's great in person but I did not like this class as an online course. The lectures are less engrossing and the work is more tedious this way. In person, he is more accessible. A warning for people that are on edge between choosing online and in person for this class.
Professor Lopez was a good professor. He just lectures, but usually let us out early. All the homework, tests, and quizzes were on Cengage. Quizzes opened after class, tests were proctored in person but still taken online. He's happy to help and a decent lecturer, but you'll do better teaching yourself from the homework and textbook.
Professor Lopez is an amazing math teacher who makes the material easy to understand. His lectures are engaging, and he's always willing to clarify any questions. While the homework can be challenging, using resources like unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook can really help with study prep.
I took the online class that meets on Zoom. He did an outstanding job keeping up and responding to any questions or comments in the chat. You can tell he has a passion for teaching and truly cares about his students, always having a positive attitude and cracking jokes. This was my first college class ever and he made it very manageable.

goated prof i think him async but im sure he's good for sync too because his lectures were very helpful. hw tests quizzes all on webassign
Professor Lopez is the best. I took him for MATH 1A in Fall 2024. Everything is through Webassign, including midterms and final exam (plus 2 attempts for each question); also not proctored. He explains concepts well and usually from the basics. I'm surprised he doesn't have a higher rating. (speaking for 1A only)
I thought professor Lopez was so funny. He made the class really entertaining. All concepts were explained nice and simple. Everything is done on webassign (homework, tests, quizzes), except for extra credit (two opportunities). On homework you get 5 attempts and tests/quizzes you get 2.
You can't find a more wonderful math professor. He turns lectures from meaningless formulas into easy-to-understand material. Not only explains, but also shows a lot of practical examples. There are many exams, but they are based on your homework. The professor has a passion for his subject and infects his students with this passion.
Mandatory attendance. Honestly don't think he cares after the 1st week (still rec attending all lectures, they aren't posted online unless he couldn't make it). Always finishes class early & hw problems are ALMOST always harder than tests. $60 Cengage for hw & exams. Exams have 2 tries for e/problem. A bit hard to email, but helpful after class.
I am still taking his class; however, I know I'm going to end with an A. He used a website called WebAssign, which has all assignments and HW. I would say don't because things build up on themselves fast. His lectures were so kinda boring, I went and just recorded them. Just self-study, I used Professor Lenord on YT.
Really nice professor. Homework load is reasonable and the exams aren't too hard — questions are straight from the homework. The final had plenty of time to finish. Overall, a good experience.
His lectures were very good and not boring. He explains the core concepts and how they work. I suggest attending because it's useful info. Multiple tries of hw and 2 tries per question on tests. Memory quizzes, too. Organized, and has note sheets for lessons that are allowed on tests and stuff.
