easy to understand, very good at teaching, but his exams are tough and long.
He lectures really well!, but his tests are hard, take him if u want a challenge
don't take him, his tests are too difficult and the final is more difficult
take his class if you are ready to fail coz his tests are freaking hard
Stay away from him unless you like to fail
His Tests are very difficult!!!
He sucks!Extremely difficult tests.2/3 of class failed.No curve.No empathy.
he palys with syudentscareer fails most of them no curving
Only about 5 people passed this semester.
His midterms and finals' problem are complex and time consuming.
yeah.. exactly.. only about 7 or 8 ppl passed
Lectures are coherent, midterms and final are extremely difficult, they are designed to fail students
Answers questions, always available; but late in returning papers and quizes are mess. Strange way of grading.
can use notecards but they DO NOT HELP AT ALL! midterms are soooo hard
Lectures are very clear but tests are extremely hard. 80% of the students failed. Beware.
if you care about your gpa and future in engineering...don't take this professor. Sucking up doesn't help at all.
Don't take with him,,,,, Believe me u will fail.
His teaching is ok, but not sufficient enough to help you pass his tests. His class is designed to fail you. He himself will tell you that you that if you get a C in his class, that C in another instructor's class would be an A or a B.
Horrible teacher. Run while you still can. There is no way to pass. Is a horrible class, and I was in GE Math . Tests are so hard and not at all really about what was covered.
he seems like a good teacher just teaching easy examples, but believe me those easy examples will be showed up no more than 30% of over all test problems, and the rest of the problems are horrible some of them even may include uncovered stuffs.
Hard class!!! Don't take this class if you want a good grade. Good teacher but tough grader. Tests are super hard.
I still think that I know all the materials. And I do. If I was to retake this class I would get an A. But his tests have nothing to do with the things discussed in the class. He says that tests are more "involved" and "deep," but the
Umm... He is ok. If you are good in math, you like math, and you listen in class, you will do ok. Keep asking questions because that is very helpful. Tests are very hard but passable. Do your homework and ask questions and you will do fine. I got B+
MAN, THIS GUY HAS SOME HARD TESTS THAT INVOLVE UP TO 5 STEPS AND 20 MINS PER PROBLEM. fAIR , BUT A TOUGH AS HELL GRADER. TAKE THIS CLASS ELSEWHERE TO GET A BETTER GRADE
God! He is the worst one I've ever had!!! He could be OK, but his tests have nothing to do with homework assignments and examples in class, so how the hell can you prepare for them? He is also very vague and unclear on his requirements.
easy examples... true... but that has NOTHING to do with his tests! do not take him if possible.
Has a power trip! Loves to fail students
Horrible teacher! Does kindergarden problems on the board, and then gives PhD questions on the test. Almost my whole class failed. GOOD LUCK!
People! Even if I hated you the most, I would never recommend him! AVOID him if you can!!! I know everything from the class, I still got very very shi**y grade! Grad school? GPA? Not after Low!
This is for all the student in Dr. Low Math 31 Class for Spring of 2003. For all that took his Exam, they should double check their final grades because the exam was graded out of 100 pts, which is incorrect. Number 9 on the exam was not omitted like he s
This the a continuation of the previous message. Although he said to omit number 9 on the final, he graded it. This means that your chance of getting a better grade is possible. Check your grade and dispute it because he has gone back on his word.
its true. the problems he does on the board are really simple, but the problems on the final are much more complicated. he doesnt check hw and doesnt give points, so its really easy not to do the hw. change teachers asap.
"Horrible teacher! Does kindergarden problems on the board, and then gives PhD questions on the test." AHhAh yea that is very true. Most people from my class did not pass. He is the best math teacher I have ever had! Awesome.

This guy pretty much goes out of his way to come up with some of the most difficult exam questions in existance. Despite being a very tough professor, I'd still have to say out of my good conscience that he is a good teacher.
Pepople, DO NOT TAKE Low! Guy is bad, does good job teaching, but asks you 10 times harder on exam: "You whould expect more involving problems on the exam." I almost started hating math after I took him. AVOID PLEASE!!!
Knows subject very well. Interesting "crystal clear" lectures with occassional mathematics history :). Best math teacher i've every had. Helped me develop a greater interest for mathematics. Extremely hard tests. Welled earned A- in class.
This guy sucks and blows. His testing and grading methods made him the devil, do not take this guy!!! IF YOU'RE ENROLLED IN HIS CLASS, YOU'RE ON A KAMIKAZE MISSON!
he has to be the worst teacher the school has to offer. there's no way someone could be worse.
I think that this prof is getting a bad rap...He is hard, but because he wants you to push yourself. I really learned alot from the class. Alot of these negative posts sounds like sour grapes, if you ask me.
This guy is outta his mind. His extremely tough and unfair grading method will kill you. He is extra hard and rough for no validated reason. Thinks hes doing a good thing. "Some day you will thank me for this"......yea.......thanks.....for the failing grades that we all didnt deserve!
This guy is hard, I thought i was good at math till i took this class. I did the hw and still got confused by his tests, hes just not a good teacher. Hes like a PHD level teacher teaching undergrads. That guy below that uses "lvl", you can tell he is a nerd, don't listen to him
He tries so hard to get his point across but he can't. He gives out easy hw and easy examples on the board but no matter how hard you study for the tests and quizzes YOU WILL FAIL! Nice guy, but he should be teaching a higher level of math.
he's a nice guy. he tries to teach everything clearly but sometimes messes things up worse. if you raise your hand and ask questions it should be no problem. he's a cool guy and an easy grader (this semester at least). he grades individually and not with the class which is nice.
he's the top of the list who should be kicked out from the school.Extremely HARD tests. He enjoys seeing students fail the class. AVOID ^1000. For those of you think he's the best teacher, feels sorry, there are lots of other Math teachers 100 times better than him and give fair tests (i.e Prof. Ng)
ALL OF HIS TEST ARE HARD. HE IS VERY HELPFULL AND YOU CAN ALWAYS ASK FOR HELP IN HIS OFFICE HOURS. YOU HAVE TO WORK REALLY HARD YO EARN AN 'A'. SO IF YOU DON'T LIKE TO WORK, YOU SHOULDN'T TAKE THIS CLASS. IF YOU HAVE TO TAKE THIS CLASS WORK REALLY HARD ON YOUR HOMEWORK AND BE PREPARE FOR THE TEST.
This professor is very friendly and passionate about math. He assigns easy homework problems and examples in class, but his exams and quizes are just unbelievably hard. Even though I study hard, review my notes, and do every assigned homework, I still do bad on tests. I donot recommend this teacher.
I took his class over a year ago. And the lowest grade in SJSU is from his class. And you can't say i didn't work hard. I have a 3.6 GPA in Electrical engineering and I am a senior. I don't understand where he gets exam problems from since it is never covered in class.
This is THE HARDEST teacher in the school. and NOT for good reason. He does not prepare you for what you will see on his exams. If you can do 100% of the book problems, you STILL wont know how to do some of the test problems. This class is almost impossible to get an A or B in.
horrible in everyway
This professor is the last one on everyone's list because even though he is nice, he gives extremely hard midterms and finals. It does not matter how hard you study or how many hours you spend in this class, your grade will be shocking !!!
I took this guy a few years ago and regret it. The material wasn't hard, I thought it was fun. I found out from him that about 75% of the class failed with an average grade of a D-. Pretty sad since I have a GPA of 3.0 failing one class thanks to that clown Low.
this teacher is really nice, but his teaching isn't as clear. He assigns hw problems but never collects them, so basically no hw for that class at all... zero. His teaching is kinda boring, i mean i get sleepy in that class and there's alot of students who skip this class too, esp on thurday's. His exams are really hard, very short but hard. The
I don't know WHY people rate Low so bad. I basically failed Cong-Huyen's class because she assigned way more homework than I could do. I kicked ass in Low's class for both Math 19 and Math 30P and I'd have taken him again for Math 31 if he was teaching it.
Helpful
Unclear, ridiculously difficult (ie. skims over difficult material then makes half an exam about it.), goes over the easiest material over and over, VERY boring, and quite rude toward students.
Really bad professor. Skims over difficult material, often chooses to elaborate the simple material more than the difficult material. Really hard grader.
Extremely good professor. Always willing to help and make you understand the content. Very fair grader! The final serves as an "emergency parachute"!!! Can you get any more fair than that??
This teacher is ridiculously hard to follow. He assigns homework pretty much ever class, but only collects ones here and there, so its frustrating to do all the homework he assigns for no credit.
dr. low is a very helpful teacher especially during office hours but sometimes he is doing somethng else during office hours so sometimes you cant get the extra help our looking for. his class is based on the quizes, midterms, and final. hw is somewhat use less because the assigned homework problems are way harder than the ones found in the midterm
Professor Low isn't a bad teacher and not such a great one either. His lectures seem to take forever and it felt it there was no energy at all. I even fell asleep in his class a few times!! But if you don't procrastinate and do all your work and study then there shouldn't be any problem.
Haha take him if your desperate. Otherwise stay away because his lectures really don't help for the tests. be prepared to study your a** off if you take math 19. be warned there are no quiz's there are just the midterms and the final
One of the best professors I've had this year. Although he may stray away from the subject at times, he really does try to make his class interesting, and he tries his best to make sure everyone understands the material. His test are easy if the homework is done. Not a class to slack off in, but he is very lenient about attendance.
Mr. Low is one of the best teachers, I have met so far. He has a Pep talk in the beginning of the Semester and is always there to help. He follows the book. In the first few minutes in the class, he usually sumarizes last lecture in the class. He is not a strict teacher. Even if students flunk in mid term and do well in Final, he gives them a grade
I would highly recommend not taking him. For one, he makes you buy a $150 text book that I've never opened. And then he makes you pay for this online thing to do your homework. Another $30 down the drain. And on top of that, he only assigned homework probably about 6 or 7 times the semester. Lecture was also dead boring and no one showed up.
The class is extremely boring, & people hardly show up. The book is very expensive, and we've never used it. The homework is online, and he gives you a lot of time to do. You can also change your answer each time until you get a perfect score because it tells you the score you get every time you submit BUT you have to pay for it. just dont take it
Low is very clear and easy to understand. His class is based on his lectures. All homework is online, so DO NOT buy the text book. We never used it or even opened it. The homework is easy. His midterms/Final is not too hard, if you go over notes ... it's basically the same thing. I'd take for an easy GE math class.
NOTE: WE DID NOT USE THE TEXTBOOK AT ALL. This class should be mostly review if you attended high school, so most of it should be a cakewalk. However, Low throws in the most absurdly unrelated questions about the history of random mathematicians. He's a nice guy, but has a subtle accent that bugs me when he says things like "calculate."
He makes me laugh. He was funny and a super nice guy. The class was super easy, high school material. The tests were even easier. But you have to go to the class to get the notes, or else you will fail.
Low is a good man. If you go to his office hours, he will provide you with lots of help, even let's you just sit and do homework and helps if you get stuck. Cares about students who are trying hard. People who do bad in his class seem to be the ones who don't show any effort. He does curve, which can be helpful. Tests are tricky, just do your best.
He is really helpful in all ways possible.Kind of teacher that all he cares is that you learn and his energy is always high.
He's a great teacher. Clear and emphasizes main points. Responsive to students and their questions; he genuinely cares and wants them to succeed. He spent more time on the harder stuff to really help us get it. I enjoyed his class. :)
Great professor! Had him for Calc 2 and he made this class a lot easier. He spends more time with the harder stuff and doesn't give too much hw. I highly recommend him.
Professor Low is a great calculus teacher, he explains the concept thoroughly and make sure you understand it. Going to his office hours is highly recommended. His tests are a bit hard though, but his final overall grading is very generous.
One of the best teachers I have had at SJSU. He comes to class with high energy, and is interactive with students (which is no longer common in college) every day. He isn't represented well by the average rating here on ratemyprofessor.
2 Midterms (25% each) and 1 Final (25%) which he grades extremely generously and allows notecards on all. Online homework (25%) which is very easy to get an A. He is very clear and the tests are easier versions of the homework so no surprises. Really cares for his students. I've taken Anna Strong, and Richard is way easier and much more helpful.
This professor is awesome. You will learn a lot from this class. This class is challenging but he helps you a lot. He allows notes for the midterms and the final. A few quizzes and not that much homework. Very helpful.
Wonderful Professor! He honestly really cares about the students and goes out of his way to go the distance and make sure that the students truly understand the concept as oppose to just leaving them to figuring out the concept through homework. He elaborates the concept extremely well! Highly recommend this professor, you won't regret it!
He's actually very interesting and prepared in lecture. He explains things fairly thoroughly. I would take him so long as you're good at conceptual math and like to take notes. Knowing how to proof things is necessary for his class. He's very responsive to student questions as well. Would take him again had I been good at conceptual math.
Took Math32 spring of 2014. Great professor. Hard class if you don't try, but he makes everything very clear and it's passable if you do your homework. Really likes students to be engaged during class. Go to lab and do all the work you're given and you will get through fine.
He has a good voice that keeps you active. If you have an incorrect answer you will only get 1-310 We didn't cover much in class compared to other classes. A word of advice, find some online notes because the textbook provided is very bad.
Super nice guy and makes sure you really understand the concepts. Explains things well and is very approachable for questions or concerns. Allows notecards on the test which help a lot and he gives a ton of partial credit even if you don't get the correct answer. Also gives you a boost if you do poorly on the midterms but well on the final.
Low's a great lecturer and very passionate about his material. His exams can be a little bit tricky sometimes. Our final was easier than our midterms to be honest. The first midterm was okay, but the 2nd midterm was pretty difficult. If you're taking 42 for Low, go over and understand counting!!! The other material he taught was pretty easy.
Low was a great math professor. Very organized and knowledgeable. Lectures are pretty interesting and never feels long. He gets you engaged.
Terrible professor does not explain concepts clearly and is not helpful during office hours. Questions on the last 2 exams were unrelated to the style of homework and lecture problems. He grades really hard on the exams, taking off 4 or 5 points from a 10 point problem for minor errors. Work really hard on homework problems or you will not pass.
In lecture, this dude teaches good stuff that will be helpful to conceptualize in future CS classes. Take all the notes in his class because they help during HW and, sometimes, in exams. First exam was pretty chill, second exam and final were challenging. Understand his game of grading, notes, and do all the HW to pass his class with decent grade.
Course Grade: 2 pop quizzes 10 %; 4 Homework 10%; 2 exams 50%; and final 30%. The exams and final were challenged. You have to work hard on your homework because he would grade your homework. I worked so hard and learned a lot, but the grading policy was bad. It was very challenge to get an A or B. Overall, the he was inspirational.
Professor Low was a very entertaining lecturer. He was always energetic and loud so paying close attention was not an issue. I would retake his class for sure. To do well on his tests I redid all of my HW and rewrote all lecture notes. In other words, attendance is mandatory. Some prob from lecture and hw were on tests so write down Everything.
There's a wide range of different math level kids in his class, from Pre-calc -Calc 3, etc., & classmates of all different math levels struggle in his class (When we pass the quizzes around I see lots of 3/10, 4/10's..), so I'd say just study a lot. VERY doable nonetheless! (: Class material can make you think outside the box (use office hours:)..
Low came late into class a lot. He's very disorganized excluding his lectures. He did not cover all of the material for Discrete Math, namely Logic. He rambles about philosophy and history of math. He procrastinated in the end with big O, Omega, and Theta induction. I heard his office hours were a waste of time. I learned nothing (took PHIL 57). :(
The good thing about his class is the extra credit homework he gives and the fact card that can be used on exam (both sides). The second exam and the final was impossible to pass AT ALL! Half of the exam was given to me on finals week and i had to come another day to take the other half.
Throughout this class, professor Low INSISTS the class is not "proofs-heavy." Well, the only non-"proof-heavy" parts are his lectures and homework. The tests are absolutely proof heavy, with a third of the questions containing some abstract proof. The best way to practice is to do every proof problem in the textbook (which he sadly never assigns).
He insists that test problems would be exactly from the book, but questions were a lot harder. I don't know how to explain it like in lectures, practice problems were exactly from the book yet questions on the test would be extremely conceptual. Also very unreliable outside of class, even office hours didn't help.
Best professor for Math71. Lectures are clear and he does the work on the board (so you MUST show up or you will be lost). He does everything to help you pass but the subject itself is difficult, so don't expect an easy A. Big portion of the grade was online homework (unlimited attempts), two midterms and a final (notecard for all). Curves at end.
Professor Low is by far my favorite teacher at SJSU. His lectures are really interesting and you can tell he cares about the subject. Tests and quiz problems are straight from the notes. Two midterms and a final with a one notecard each. I would definitely take his class again. I would recommend this class for anyone with a mind for math.
The class was abstract algebra 2 (undergrad). Dr. Low was hand-wavey for the topic, preferred to state theorems without proof and do numerous (sometimes redundant) examples. The class is intended for senior math majors who are comfortable with proving things. Anyway just be ready to study/do the proofs on your own time to know whats going on.
Professor Low makes it manageable to understand calculus and writes everything on the board for students to follow. He does everything to help students succeed. Homework was unlimited tries, notecards for every exam, and curves as the end. Attendance is mandatory if you want to pass this class because the material is difficult. Dont miss a day.
4 quizzes total based on class lectures. Each quiz is free response and 5 questions (some with many parts). Generous partial credit is given on equizzes but, story problems are difficult. Homework is online thru webassign/cengage. We had 13 assignments across a semester each w/ 20 questions. You have 1 week or more until the HW is due.
Imo he's good at teaching, but the second midterm is much harder/more abstract than the first. I got an A on the first midterm by attending class and practicing the homework + extra problems. Did the same thing for the second midterm but got an F. Studied hard for the final but got a C+ on it. Basically, one mess-up will really screw you over.
He is an amazing professor since he is really responsible and respected to students' study. The homework is not heavy compared to other professors. However, the tests are a little bit tricky. But, if you study hard and practice more, you will get an easy A. Don't trust the comments above. Richard Low is a good prof.
He gets the job done. My only qualm would be that he's a bit slow and teaches you like you've never seen the topic before. There's pop quizzes every now and then and he assigns and collects the homework randomly. He doesn't collect some homework assignments but you should do it anyway cause you don't know which one. Besides that, he's alright.
Due to my learning disability, it is difficult for me to get good grades with my professors. I have failed Math 42 about 4 times, and on my 5th try I was just about to give up. But Richard Low is different; he took pity on me and really inspired me to barely pass the class with a 69.42%. Everyone should hug this man if they see him in the street.
Great professor that is very helpful out of class. Great personality and is always willing to explain concepts!
Terrible teacher. Pretty much self taught myself
During the shelter in place until the end of the semester, he did not teach the classes so I had to teach myself with his khan academy videos and homework to practice. To do well, just redo homework and review the notes. Also, have some classmates to study with because the class has some hard concepts you will most likely get stuck on.
Dr. Low is a great lecturer and gives us learning tasks A LOT. But hes more of a 4 than a 5 because his online tests seem to be more difficult than my Precalc lab tests. Also he assigns lots of homework and expects detailed class notes.
Super caring professor, he gave an inspirational speech the first day of class and has an outstanding policy to discourage students from giving up if they struggle in the beginning of his class and fail the midterms. Great professor for Calc 3.
When classes moved online he completely stopped teaching. He wasn't a bad professor before that, and the class was still passable with an A. He has policy in place to allow students to pass even if they don't do fantastic on the first exam which I appreciate.
Cares much more about cheating than teaching his class. Started off the online semester with no lectures at all and had to teach myself, although it was probably better because I wouldnt learn from his lectures anyway. Gives off a very selfish vibe and is quick to fail students who break his rules.
Pros: Very clear about what he expects from students, will answer any questions you ask during class, provides students with a lot of supplementary youtube videos in addition to his lectures Cons: Hard exams, extremely vindictive about cheating, will use a lot of class time to threaten you for cheating.
Dr. Low would have been a more amazing lecturer if he wasnt more serious about cheating than learning and if the tests werent hard. I understand precalculus a lot but Dr. Low seems to make it a little harder. Especially when midterms and finals make up 70% of the grade. I dont know my grade yet because of apparent cheating from another class.
Nice prof, but not a lot of class participation (mostly because everyone is quiet on Zoom). So its kind of him just talking a lot. But if you ask questions on voice or in the chat he is super helpful. Heavy emphasis on handwritten class notes, midterms and hw are on Webassign. Overall, would recommend.
Since I was added to his class later into the semester, I missed a few(maybe 4-7) homework and hw quiz assignments. I tried to talk to him about it but he listed them all as zeros causing me to fail the class later on. Even though I did well/decent in other categories, I still failed because my hw grade was an F. DO NOT SWITCH INTO HIS CLASS LATE.
Never checks his email, only gives 2 quizzes the whole semester and gives no midterms leaving little motivation to study up until the final, a poor communicator, an unreasonable grader, and is very forgetful.
Class is basically graded with two tests and the final, worth 80% of your grade. The rest 20% is homework, which is really easy to do. The tests are fairly easy as long as you attend the lectures. Additionally, you also get a flashcard front and back for the tests.
Professor Low is a good teacher. He explains concepts well, but this class is just so damn difficult to pass. It's as if it's made so that you fail. There are only two 50-minute tests that makeup 50% of your grade which is insane. And then there's the massive final which everyone failed.I understood every concept and did well on hw and still failed
Lectures are often long and boring, but notes are clear. HW is graded but you have unlimited tries. 2 midterms, one final, and 2 easy take-home quizzes. Prof is nice and clearly loves the subject, answers questions. Class is okay, depends on the person, easy for some harder for others. Midterms get a cheat sheet so you dont need to memorize much.
He is good at lecturing and explains concepts well but gives a lot of homework and a majority of the grade is based on two tests so make sure to study well for those. Homework is pretty easy as you get unlimited tries but tests are somewhat difficult. Make sure to understand all the concepts and do lots of practice questions if possible.
Professor Low's class was always fun to learn in his lectures. He teaches in understandable ways and gives certain methods to solve problems quicker. He also talks about random stories so it's always fun having his humor. Homework is collected at random which makes your anxiety spike up but makes you do your homework. Exams are not too difficult.
Tbh I screwed up my grade by cramming for the first two exams. But overall low is a very good teacher. He answers questions and does his best to explain the topic to you. Also his lectures are worth listening to and he doesn't just read off of notes. Attendance is not "mandatory", but his homework collection is random so always try to attend.
Prof. Low is a decent lecturer and explains concepts fairly well. He takes everyone's questions seriously. He's also very enthusiastic about the subjects he teaches. Unfortunately, discrete math is a very hard subject. Attendance is not mandatory, but he collects homework (which is on paper) at random times.
The professor is great, the actual material isn't. Discrete math is a tough course and he tries his best to teach the concepts and give examples within the lecture time. The ramp in difficulty from the lectures to the midterms is really high. All I can say is stay on top of the homework/quizzes and do your best on the exams, get in study groups too
MATH 31 is hard. Professor Low goes too fast sometimes, but he isn't a bad professor. He's very enthusiastic about math, which makes his lectures tolerable to listen to even when you have literally no clue what is going on.
Doesn't teach at the level he expects on tests
Professor Low is a little disorganized. However, Low is extremely kind when you get to know him in his office hours. Discrete Math is hard subject which is why I'm not mad for failing his class. Attendance is mandatory to turn in homework that is done on paper. If you ask a question in class and his office hours, he is willing to answer nicely.
He made his tests much more difficult than his examples and almost everyone did bad on them. Didn't hold true to some of the things he said and way too many people failed his class. If you can take another professor or at a community college.
Probably won't pass calc 2, its really hard. If you take him, find someone who passed his class the year prior to help. Midterms are nothing like hw and lectures. good luck. At least he's entertaining.
Great guy ! The tests are a bit heavy and he grades strictly but other than that he is a good professor.
very easy course if you just pay attention in class, his lectures are pretty entertaining. however, he collects the homework randomly so make sure you do it within the week, sometimes he announces that he will collect an assignment the next day but just make sure to show up with the homework.
I've heard he's quite good for more theoretical subjects! That's not the case for his Calc III course. We were constantly many sections behind, and his covering of the first third of the material was very unsatisfactory. I found him far more boring and less informative than many far-lower rated professors here.
He's a good guy, but bro really said, "I did not teach you everything, make a valiant effort to get partial credit" on the common department final. Asher Roberts is your friend.
Gives fairly hard tests, caring professor but hard to pay attention to. I barely passed the class, the final was impossible to prepare for but I think the curve was huge as most people did terrible on it. If I took the class again I would enroll in the workshop and study adequately for midterms.
Nice dude, tests aren't horrible, but you cannot simply grind out homework problems to study. You must understand the geometry of what you are doing in 3D space to do well in the course. 20% of your grade is homework, which is a nice boost.
He told us he would curved "don't worry about your grade, do your best I will curved." In fact, Nothing is curved. The final exam is very very hard. Homework on Websign, and it is not helpful for preparing exam at all. Lecture is not clear, basically I self taught everything.
The prof is passionate but his lectures can be boring. The class was chronically behind for most of the semester. While the tests are not necessarily hard his lectures do not fully prepare you, especially the 1st midterm. He's a very strict grader. When asking for help, his reasons can be lackluster. Ask for help or find other sources to support.
Took this class during COVID. The professor stopped teaching and started linking patrickJMT videos instead of teaching
GREAT! Has genuine care for Students. Lectures are paced at a moderate speed and explain things beyond the textbook that help people understand the concepts more. Tests are basic problems and not too different from the material he gives. Allowed calculator and note card on tests! Take him BUT ALSO APPLY YOURSELF, with this combination you can pass!
Prof. Low for MATH 42 was okay, he may have rushed the lecture content in the end making it hard to prepare for the final. Midterms were difficult as expected but he wants us all to pass the class. Not knowing grade too much for this puts me in a panic attack for this class. Collects homework randomly so show up in case work gets collected.
Do not take this professor I could write an essay on why you shouldn't. He claims not to be tricky but thats all he is,he doesn't tell you which HW he's going to collect and when. He doesn't give you a proper study guide like the other discrete classes he just gives a useless Review sheet that just has the names of the chapters. AVOID, he's useless
Do not take his class!!!. He never responded to my email and we weren't able to see our class score until the scores were released last week.
Do not take, all his test averages were around 50% which isn't enough to pass. He told me I would pass but failed me after I had my best exam score on the final. I was less than 1% away from passing and he refused to regrade an exam question that wasn't graded fairly which would've made the difference.
Nothing is curved. You pay to do HW on WebAssign. Exams are a majority of your grade, but about half the questions don't resemble the notes or the HW. You are given a list of subjects to study before each exam, a worded doc of everything you learned leading up to the exam. Only way to possibly save your grade is to get 85% or better on final.
Prof. Low is a really great guy overall and teaches the concepts really well. YOU NEED TO COME TO CLASS AND PAY ATTENTION. You must remember coming to class and doing the Edfinity assignments is not enough though. I highly recommend taking the workshop class along-side as calc 2 is harder than calc 1 or calc 3.
The professor has a specific teaching style, but engaging with it can pay off. Tests are challenging, so using resources like unstuckstudy, the free textbook, and study sessions is key to succeeding. Attendance is mandatory, so be prepared to participate.
Though I appreciate him teaching me vector Calculus lectures, these overwhelming tests and the final were just too much for me to handle in this class.
Professor Low explains the material very clearly which makes it easy to learn. The class itself is hard, and most of your grade is dependent on exam grades, but that's not Professor Low's fault, this is the department's choice. He is a good professor who is receptive to questions and he grades his exams very fairly. I would recommend professor Low.
If you are taking this class with any teacher, be prepared to study! It was a hard class because of the material, not the teacher. There are 3 tests, so make sure you study at the best of your abilities. You'll be fine if you study and attend all of his lectures as he is very enthusiastic about what he is teaching.
Test are out of 40 points however, he is a very strict grader, isn't very forgiving even though he offers regrades. Doesn't give study guides before test. Exam reviews useless because he goes over two problems. Claims test are “basic” which is not right. does not replace final or any exams!! Enthusiastical professor but very lazy.
Teaches well but his tests are a big factor in your grade. Doesn't provide study guide and the topics review list is useless and in class review is useless too. Does too many easy examples in class while the tests are a bit harder I would suggest asking friends in other calc 2 classes for a study guide or doing textbook problems.
Only 4-5 questions per 50min test so messing up 1 ques eats up your grade. NO PRACTICE TESTS, but his tests are easier than other professors, not saying its ez tho. Make sure you study your lecture notes & practice w/ yt! Ex problems are too easy for final exams. He also skips over some things that was given on the final such as calc errors.
Though I appreciate him teaching me vector Calculus lectures, I won't even bother taking any of his classes at this rate. The exams are lavish of each student's grade in this Math 112.
I found Mr. Low harder to recommend. I didn't feel the lectures set me up for success, instead making me do all the learning. Looking back now, I wish this class was longer, went at a faster pace, and at greater depth. I loved the notecards and generous pacing for the 3 exams, but Calc 2 is really hard, so make sure to show up and work hard.
Dr.Richard Low PhD., is a super chill lecturer often using 'funny language' to describe concepts. His examples are on the easier side of things which makes it easier to get and often matches the difficulty of his 3 exams (45% of grade). "NO TRICKS"!!!!! If you want harder examples and problems, I would recommend textbook and YouTube.
peak, super chill, tries his best to let students have a higher score, the course itself is extremely difficult but he makes everything somewhat easy to digest, SO BE PREPARED SO SHOW UP. Gives out no minuses, 88% and above scores you an A, 83-88 gives you a B plus, 80-83 B, and so on, 3 midterms in total, 45%, HW 20% and Finals 35%
I probably made it out with a B or something. He's very passionate about mathematics, bit quirky (in a good way). Okay at lecturing, just make sure to do a lot of practice problems and the HW. Forgiving when it comes to grading exams (3 + 1 final). HW done online using Edfinity and practically graded for completion (100 attempts per problem)
If you want to just barely pass this class, He's an alright professor. But if you want to get better grades, I don't recommend him. His tests are as hard as other profs while giving no extra credits (others do). His lectures are confusing cus of unecsessary information instead of straight to the formulas and how to solve the problems.
Average math professor, you don't have to attend and participate because it's not mandatory. Lecture heavy and homework will be online.
Personality wise he's nice. Tests are okay if you study enough. Does "regrades" for tests. Don't take if you aren't okay with just passing.
