I really enjoyed his natural disasters class. He was goofy and fun to be around. We got to watch movies that were really interesting and eye opening.
seriously....all his tests were nothing on what he lectured on..it was so dumb...his mom wrote the tests for goodness sakes! save yourself and run!
his tests were taken from the lectures and reading material. very good instructor...i learned a lot. his mom does not write his tests.
he's not a bad teacher, it's just the test/quizes kill you. you don't even take tests, just weekly quizes which are rarely on topics he covers in class. he's very unclear on a lot of things and it in turns screws up your grade. i wouldn't take him again.
HIS JOKES ARE THE BEST! Mostly his mom jokes. He makes the class so fun and easy to understand. His quizzes are so easy and they help keep you up on his lectures. To know your grade you have to talk to him.
It's a kinda of hard class but overall pretty easy. Just do the work assigned and study before each test and it shouldn't be that hard to get an A or B.
This class is cake and Rick's jokes may be bad but they are still kinda funny.
His notes could of been clearer but overall it's an easy class. Easy A for a class you won't even give a second thought once your done.
GEOLOGY is extremely boring. His tests were a bit difficult (mostly difficult to study for). But he gives out a bunch of extra credit. I got a B, it was pretty hard.
His tests pretty much go with the notes that he gives. I really think he favors though and for me he took away points when i deserved them. LAB Is BORING. takes up so much time. the book is pretty much pointless to have too.
This professor ROCKS! His classes are fun and you learn a lot too. I don't know about you, but I think his jokes are funny. He is one of the best professors I've had at Fullerton College.
Test were somewhat difficult... probably because his mommy put them together (really though... that's what he told my class)... lol... overall he is a good teaher and gives a lot of extra credit which helped me out in the end... I snabbed an A... I don't know how?
I found this class to be easy, but all my friends had a very hard time. He doesn't always explain things very well and doesnt really prepare you for the test. If I didn't know about most of the material prior from taking the class, I wouldn't have done as good as I did.

HE IS A NICE TEACHER WHO KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. HE WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH WITH SOME OF HIS JOKES EVEN IF SOME ARE STUPID YOU HAVE TO LAUGH. HE DOES AN OKAY JOB IN HIS LECTURES. YOU WILL LEARN SOMETHING FROM THE CLASS. HIS TEST ARE REALLY HARD TO DO SO STUDY OR FAIL THEM. YOUR CALL WHETHER YOU WILL TAKE HIM OR NOT.
Rick was probably the worst teacher i have had at Fullerton. His tests are impossible. Our class average for the first test was in the low 40% range, and it went up to 54% by the 4th test. He has lame jokes, he is anal about you being tardy, and the subject is boring. He claimed that "Rocks are my friends". Enough said. DO NOT TAKE RICK!
Field trip: beaches and Anza-Borrego HOT HANDSOME sadly, married. Easy-going FUNNY jokes bring a tape-recorder! Though hiking was difficult for me he wasn't mean but waited Good pack lunch provided for A-B, fun trip. Bring heavy sleeping bag and food as you might not like his choice Final is group report EASY But TAKE NOTES during hikes and photos

He loves knowing more than everyone and does not try very hard to help you. It seems like he makes things more difficult on purpose.
He is the worst teacher I've ever had. He doesn't care that 90% of his class fails his tests. It's almost like he doesn't want you to succeed so he makes himself feel better. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!
Field / camping course- I am surprised by some of the ratings. I learned a lot, & found he was very knowledgeable. It was pouring rain on us and still we kept on going. That's dedication! Good natured (we threw snowballs at him) & I am very glad I tok his course. Can't wait to take more classes with him. Grade was based on a group write up report.
Overall a good professor. I took his summer course, which is probally harder than a fall/spring semester, due to the material being compacted. Most of the test material is covered in the lecture, so attendance is very important. I enjoyed the field trips. If you listen and take good notes you can pull off an A or B.
He was the worst teacher i have EVER had. the class itself would not be so bad except that he teaches very dry and boring. the Tests are IMPOSSIBLE are class averages were usually around 40% to 50% he is no help to you and just says well did you read the book or did you meet with the geology tutor.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. ALMOST PUT ME TO SLEEP EVERYTIME. MUST TAKE NOTES & THERE ARE A TON. TESTS ARE HARD BUT I NEVER READ THE BOOK & HARDLY STUDIED. I PASSED WITH A C BARELY. DO THE EC ITS EASY AND IT WILL HELP OUT. HE SEEMS NICE & WILLING TO HELP BUT THE CLASS IS SO DRY AND HIS JOKES ARE SO LAME YOU HAVE TO LAUGH.
I took Esc 100 with another teacher who I learned a lot from, and got an A. Next semester I took the lab with Lozinksy and it was horrible. He doesn't explain well, will try to make you feel dumb if you ask for help, and his tests are incredibly hard. Almost everyone failed. I studied very hard and managed a B, but it was the hardest class I've tak
I'm no science major, so I thought this class would be straight-forward. Wrong. His tests are incredibly hard if you don't memorize the book. He expects everyone to love rocks as much as he does. Don't bother asking questions, he'll just tell you to figure it out yourself. The class average on tests is 50% on all the tests. Don't take this class.
This teacher sucks! He tells you to buy one book and then it turns out that book only has a portion of what is actually taught in class then you have to go out and buy another book or you're screwed! The worst class ever! Seriously!
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!! His lectures are very unclear, exams are a nightmare (most people failed), and he's very unhelpful. Outside of class he's a nice guy, but inside class or lab, he's horrid! BEWARE: STAY AWAY from LOZINSKY!! you will have bad memories w/ this class!
this class is very difficult, boring, teidous, and his jokes are lame. his overhead projector notes are hard to read, half the class sleeps and most end up dropping. his tests are hard. dont take this class.
he is so nice. people dont like him cause he has cheesy jokes and has a lot of notes. if you actually try and take thorough notes, its not that hard. he's very helpful as well. great class.
You know what, I don't get people who say Lozinksy is bad teacher and that his class sucks. He's a very kind, intelligent teacher. His jokes lighten up the lecture, he's willing to help anyone and his tests aren't THAT hard if you pay attention in lecture. I don't blame him for yelling at kids who FALL ASLEEP in class or text all period.
Good luck with Lozinsky. His tests are horrific! He'll ask you a.~ b.~ c.~ d.a&b e.b&c You'll know it's b... but cout it be a or c as well? You have to know this crap inside and out! I got a D and was suprised I got a D. I never could have been more excited for a D in my life! This now means I'll never have to take this class ever again! Good luck
Worst professor ever that I have to write a comment. I'm always falling sleeping or just flat out sleeping in his class. He used freaken overhead sheets that are like 3 years ago and the words on it are either you cant read the handwriting or smeared right out. Worst part is that he wont let you retake or take his exam if you are a few mins late.
Professor Lozinsky can be frustrating at times. It can be hard to earn a good grade, even if you try very hard. He isn't helpful and can be too hard on students because he expects us to absorb things quickly. Overall, he's great teacher, but he's not a mean person. However, if you have a low tolerance for frustration, don't take his class.
He is not too helpful, he does have favorites but you just got to make sure your one of his favorites. fortunately i was! tests are not too hard if you study he does leave some stuff out tho. jokes are cheesy. overall hes not as bad as below
I wouldn't have a problem with him had I met him outside of class, but he is not a good professor. And here's why. He doesn't answer your questions. If you need him to clarify a topic, his response is "You're the geologist, figure it out." That's not an answer, that's laziness. If you have a general interest in earth science, I'm sure he's great.
Quiz at the begining of every lab, 2 exams, both tough, also you will be memorizing about 50 rocks/minerals
HARD EXAMS! Class average for the most recent was 54 out of 100 pts. I studied for 12 hours the day before and got a 76. Lectures are dry as dust. Do ALL the extra credit, you'll need it!
he is a nice professor outside of class, but he is a pretty bad professor in class, he doesnt help you when you have a question... his tests are impossible... i got a D, and the highest grade was a C! his lab is impossible, you have to ask a million questions before you finally get it to a certain point, but still not enough to understand on a test
cool teacher
My friend said he was easy; he's not. I took notes like mad, and got a D on the first exam. Lectures boring as hell. Assignments boring and hard. Entire class had to redo first assignment for more points. Overhead notes are old, hard to read, and misspelled! He WILL drop you for absence, too. Do not take unless you want a challenge.
Great professor, and knows his science, i learned a lot from taking him 3 times. First time i dropped cuz i was not getting it, second time i failed cuz i just didn't do good, third time i passed cuz i realized that his test never changed, si i used the answers to pass his tests. Over all i got to connect with him well.
He was really funny, and made the topics interesting, but the material was really difficult to remember. The overhead notes are hard to read and the tests are impossible.
excellent teacher! he is very easy as long as you pay attention to his lectures. he only gives 3 tests(including final)and he lets you drop one. HW is easy (only 2 assignments)and ec is available. hes funny, and very approachable and easy to talk to. overall it was a fun, easy class and you learn alot b/c he is a good teacher
Great teacher. Make sure to take his tests seriously because they're basically the only things that he bases your grade on. be prepared to learn as many cool facts about geology as rock puns, of which, apparently, there is no shortage.
He's standard science, loves his rocks and has a wealth of poor puns to go with it. If you do need his help, he's always there. He does teach science, tho, and science does get technical and specific. Pay attention and you can get your requirements in easy here. Double your lab same semester and you'll be better off learning the material.
I've never had such a boring professor in my almost 3 years of attending this college. He keeps the same monotone voice the entire class time. He locked me out of class for being 1 minute "late" and class is consisted of about 20 slides of material. Very hard to stay focused in this class. I would recommend to take Hobbs for any science class!
Good teacher but the tests are super hard. he makes you sighn into each class so find a friend who can sign u in if ur absent
The WORST teacher I have ever taken in my life! He has favorites and will NOT help you if he does not like you. He complains that it is the student's fault that we are not passing when EVERYONE in the class is failing!!!!! Seriously, the worst teacher ever, DO NOT take him!!!!!
The most boring and quite possible the worst teacher in the whole school. speaks in same monotone voice the whole semester, puts you to sleep, it feels worse than high school history in his class. I don't recommend him to anyone, worst mistake of my life in college so far. Seriously, he's a terrible teacher.
he totally picks favorites, my friend and i would ask questions& for help and he wouldn't help us bt would help others. study his dumb notes because that's what the tests are on!i would not take him,he's horrible!!
That picture of him is awesome! so outdate lol this class takes a lot of concentration. not an easy class at all. Only two tests and two HW assignments, which doesn't give much room for failure. HW is straight forward, tests are not! study everything!!!! maybe taking the lab will make it easier. get a general earth schience textbook as well as his
Tough, tough class. Three exams, lowest dropped. Take advantage of the extra credit. Don't bother buying a supplemental textbook; everything you need to cover is in his notes. FLASHCARD UNTIL YOU GO BLUE IN THE FACE. Good sense of humor for a science professor.
Nice guy but not the best teacher. I took his lecture class and his lab class. Both are extremely hard.Expects you to live on the subject and assumes his class is the only one you are taking. Not an easy class. Take someone else if you are looking for a reasonable class.
Don't bother buying a textbook.
very difficult.study guide useless almost.be prepared .i felt as though he was thinking we are Professors and not students.
He has a sense of humor, but no sense that the huge amount of info goes over almost all the students' heads. You really don't need the textbook but absolutely do ALL the extra credit. Tests are very tricky, like he's deliberately trying to confuse you. I would avoid if possible.
I don't understand how red flags are not raised to the school about this teacher when he announces that the average grade of his first test of the semester is usually an F. And he seems almost proud when he says this! Unbelievable
This Class requires commitment. If you can not discipline yourself to listen during his lecture, apply concepts, and earnestly learn the subject, this class is not for you. This man has such a passion for what he does. You will receive your money's worth.
if you visit his office hours and do the extra credit, show effort then you can pass. the tests are very hard and detailed so you definitely have to study. he's also very strict on attendance and tardiness. you're not welcome if you only just a couple min late. and if you miss 2 or three class hell drop you. boring lectures and hard class.
He's not funny but tries to joke anyway which makes him kind of funny. He emails notes so you don't need the book. It is the most boring thing I've put myself through and that's why I got a D. It was my fault.
This class was probably the most boring class I have ever taken in my whole life. He practically reads the powerpoints so that is what you would have to study. And his test have nothing to do with what he lectures about. BEWARE.
I have a BA in Env Sci & took this class after graduating. This guy does not accurately teach about natural disasters, he doesn't seem to know 1/2 the material, reads slides& mumbles thru the 1s that dont make sense. worst part is that lecture materials are all from 1995 & earlier. If you want to be in the sciences, this class will NOT help you.
I can see why people would hate his class. He's a pretty hard teacher. Only 2 tests the whole semester which is A LOT to memorize and comprehend. He did offer a fair amount of extra credit though (DO IT!) to make up for low test scores. Also drops lowest test, show up for class too or you will be dropped!
Hardest class I've ever taken!! I absolutely hate this class! There are only 3 tests the entire semester and 4 hw assign., he does drop one test but they are impossibly hard and they have nothing to do with the study questions he gives and are in far more detail than his ppt lect. Too much material to learn in b/w tests!Dont take this class!!
Just read off PowerPoint, had to use of textbook for extra information and understanding. Didn't answer questions or give a lot of clarification in or out of class. Very easy if you learn that way--but if you get confused you'll stay confused. I'd only take this class if you know and like the topic already.
He is a really chill teacher. He will always help you if you have any questions. The only bad thing about the lecture class is it's extremely boring and hard. The lab class is much better and goes by pretty quickly but still hard.
I would definitely recommend taking the lab with class. The tests are sometimes more detailed than the lecture notes he gives, so make sure you take good notes if you are not in the lab! He is a good lecturer who doesn't just read off the slides, and he obviously knows his stuff. I enjoyed the class much more than I thought I would!
Doesn't care for he's students, spends class time harassing students for being late. Doesn't he realize people have lives outside of school. Teaches like we already know the information. Doesn't even follow he's own syllabus. You will learn more watching NetGeo for 1 hour then siting through he's 1 and a half hour lecture.
This teacher is useless. Very rude. Lectures all day long every single day then boom exam. Taught me nothing just a terribly boring man. Gives notes not in order of syllabus. You have to print 9-10 pages for every class just for him to talk about everything you read on the paper he is no help and all my class mates agree. He should probably retire.
Hardest class EVER!!! He lectures too fast when the material is like a 2nd language to begin with, you don't need the book even though he says you do and he kicks you out of the class if your 1 MINUTE late!!! When taking this class you have to be self-taught!!! I strongly recommend not taking this class!!!
Because of the speed he speaks at, this is an extremely hard class. It is very fast, so, if you can't handle fast classes, don't take it. ALWAYS study. Every night, read the book and prepare. This is the classic lecture class where there is no constant interaction with the professor which would have been nice. The book he uses is his own.
The topic has always been of interest to me. I didn't know how to speak with the instructor regarding the point system. Since grades aren't periodically posted on mygateway/blackboard, it becomes increasingly difficult to be on top of all assignments, especially when you have a hard time in math, or its your 1st yr in college, etc.
Even if you study both his notes and the book, it's still not enough. Tutoring does not even help much. The notes and book don't give all the information you need to pass the test. You have to research the topics on your own on Google. Don't even think about taking this class. Just don't. Unless you want to ruin your GPA, go for it.
Super monotone & WAY too proud of his "textbook" he requires u to buy. (Which we only used once) he presents information & that's about the end of it. Memorize what is taught in class & you can probably pass.
People forget that Professor Lozinsky has a Doctorate in his field. The only way you can fail is if you pay NO attention at all to the material and just show up and fail every exam. He gave extra credit which can make the difference between a D+ and a solid C. It was hard work, but I passed. Thankful for this class.
Very tough class considering it is only a beginner course at earth science. I would strongly advice to pay close attention to the study guides, handouts, and lectures. His tests are very tricky and tough. Do not expect the study guide to be of much help. You will just have to pay close attention to his lectures. All the answers are in his lectures
Great teacher, easy to listen to and understand. Yes the tests are difficult but this is why you get a book and he tends to email you notes. Generally has a intermission for fifteen minutes as well which really seems to helps the overall morale of the class. I enjoyed this class from beginning to end because it provided a challenge.
He taught way to much info for a summer session, didn't condense anything. His study guides were useless and the only time I used the book was for one required assignment. Nothing from his lectures or study guides are on his exams. I would avoid taking his class if at all possible!
Don't take the class if you don't love geologyscience. Lectures pretty dry w some rock jokes. 80% of book's usefulness is for 1 project. He loves the subject but could make it more of an intro class for those who don't. 2tests, 1 optional final (can replace a test if you do better on it)+6study guides. Offers extra credit. He'll help jst ask.
His tests are super hard, and usually don't relate to the notes at all. Hes very knowledgeable, but its kind of hard to understand a lot of the time. You only really use the textbook once. Would not recommend if you are looking for an easy A. It was a really tough class.
I took professor Lozinsky for physical geology over the summer. He was a pretty cool teacher for what the subject was. He gives pretty good lectures and is understanding when it comes to grading. He also tells jokes and lets the classes out early usually. All and all as a geology professor I guess you could say he's a pretty... down to earth guy.
Took his lecture and lab course over the summer. Lecture course was straightforward and all of the tests were based on lecture notes. Lab was more challenging because he was not very helpful when explaining how to conduct the lab exercises and also was not helpful when you asked him questions to clarify or help you during the lab.
Professor Lozinsky is good professor, and I don't have anything awful to say about him. I would advise you go to class everyday, study your notes, and go to tutoring. That's what saved me his quizzes are hard so having someone else explain to you what he taught in class is VERY helpful.
Professor Lozinsky loves his subject. He is always up to date with any Geological news. For his class, if you show up, take decent notes and do the extra credit, you should pull an A fairly easily. The Extra Credit he offered was a large percentage bump. Lab is not bad either. Show up and do the work. His T Shirts are awesome. Great Proffesor
I liked Professor Lozinski. He was extremely knowledgeable and I learned a lot in his class. This class was tough, but my class asked for extra credit assignments and he gave us options to get extra points. Tests are very hard, there is a lot of tricky terminology.
Would NOT recommend. He was super challenging. I studied so much for every quiz/test, but sometimes the notes didn't correspond to the questions. For lab he was not helpful. He quickly talked about what we would do that day, and then walk around/go to his office.
I tried taking Professor Lozinsky's class during the spring and couldn't put forth enough time to study. This class is term-hell. Get ready to study notes (and take good ones), watch his videos on your own time, and put forth a lot of extra work if you expect to pass. He offers 2 tests +optional final (to replace other test). NOT an easy class.
I put effort into this class and showed up everyday and got a C. He is a cool guy and very passionate about geology, but his teaching methods honestly suck. He needs to be more clear in his notes, powerpoints are not good enough. He also needs to give students at least some type of study guides. Studying for his tests was stressful.
A lot of people, like me, will register for Physical Geology and the lab counterpart because it seems like an easy class. It's not. There's a big dichotomy in grades between those who study and those who don't. There's a lot of material to review. The average test grade for my class was hovering around a D/F. He's nice and able to help though!
He is a cool guy, his class was a lot harder than i thought it would be tho. His class is usually all lecture on PP, make sure to print them out prior to class and add on, then make sure to keep up on reading or else you will struggle on tests. I got a C then a B on tests but did good on HW and EC and came out with an A. Study Read do HW and do EC.
Has a dry sense of humor and doesn't really help you on the tests in any way. His only "study guides" come from the notes you take in class. Therefore, you have to read the book if you want an A. The tests are hard if you don't read the book/notes. I managed to get a B only through extra credit so make sure you do all the extra credit offered.
Dont take this "professor".Ihave never had the most inconsiderate ignorant professor in this school. Hes the worst! He locks students out at exactly 7:00am when class started. His study guide questions are no help at all! And he makes the tests difficult and its not what he "lectures" on he just reads off his boring powerpoints. And tough grader!
He's quirky. You need to listen to lectures to do well on the exams. Make sure you do all the work and extra credit because there aren't many assignments. He is pretty strict, but follow what he says and you'll be fine. Most importantly, on the day of the final exam, I dropped my pencil on the way out and he told me. I really like that pencil. ty.
There are 2 exams and the final exam. the tests are hard if you do not study or read. you can drop 1 test. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! it could bump your grade up if you do it right. He lectures off of a powerpoint so print them before and know your terms.
Very pedantic grader, he loves to mark you off based on criteria that is not mentioned. Its almost impossible to get an A. Literally every assignment is marked down and impossible to receive full points. His jokes are old and annoying, and he goes wayyyyy too fast in lectures that are uploaded in word... worst professor so far in my life.
Dr. Lozinsky is pretty solid instructor. He makes you work but I learned a lot. Good Class
Hilarious and interesting. Professor Lozinsky is inspiring, and you can see his enthusiasm for geology shining through when he lectures. His ESC classes have as much homework as is expected for any physical science. Don't expect to take this or any physical science course, without putting in the effort. Don't skip, don't fall behind. Recommended!
You will have lot's of homework in the lab, and a quiz every week. As long as you don't slack off and skip, you'll be fine. Lozinsky is hilarious, and I enjoy every geology class that I take of his. He is enthusiastic about geology, and he loves when students are interested and engaged in the subject. Don't skip or procrastinate. Memorize the info!
Very clear cut and to the point. One of the most professional instructors at Fullerton. He knows what he's doing even though sometimes he looks like he just rolled out of bed lol. Definitely don't procrastinate, like many people are saying, and you will get a good grade. Do all the offered extra credit.
Professor Lozinsky is very well-informed and shares his passion with his students. I found his humor to be one of the best parts of the class. Yes, the exams are difficult. I recommend reading the book and reviewing your notes. With the extra credit he offers, it's definitely possible to bump your grade up. Listen in class, and you'll do great.
Unrealistic expectations. Not too clear on the subject and advances through material to quickly. He says that he's taught for 30 years at Fullerton college but clearly doesn't have an effective way to convey his subject material. Would not recommend this professor.
Nice guy, cringy jokes, but prepares you for harder course you might take in the future. Manage to make the subject INSANELY difficult. DO ALL EXTRA CREDIT even if it's 5 points, you'll need it. Trust me. Drops one exam but ALWAYS take the final. SI meetings HELP. Lets you out 20-30 minutes early almost every time, but be on time! He locks the door
Read the book because his lectures are nothing like the tests. Go to SI because that is the only way you can get a good grade in the class. Attend class and BE EARLY because he locks the door exactly at 8:35 am. The day of the exams he doesn't give you all of the class period, you have to be done by 9:30.
Lectures are incredibly long and boring. There's no other in-class activities besides taking notes on lectures. All lectures are done through PowerPoint. Reading the Text book is a must! He has corny jokes and has a monotone voice which makes his class extremely boring.
Worst prof ever, never put in grades, tests had nothing to what we learned. Super long tests, never failed a test before but failed his. Super disappointed in teaching and I should have dropped. BUT HE DOESNT PUT UP GRADES
Teaching method is nonexistent. Expects you to learn labs yourself before class and gives quizzes before actually doing the lab. He lets you use finished labs on midterm and final. Final was timed and still very challenging, many in my class could not finish. Materials needed if class taken, he will not let you borrow for final
His teaching style is PowerPoint only. He literally reads off of each slide. Test are somewhat difficult but he doesn't give out any type of study guide material. Print out all of PowerPoint slides to add more notes onto during his lecture.
I can understand the bad ratings, but I honestly didn't find this class unpleasant at all. He lectured off powerpoints and we were graded on 3 exams and the worse score gets dropped. Had like two hw assignments and that was it. If you takes notes, study them, and memorize the terminology, you should be fine. The tests were pretty straightforward.
All lectures are basically PowerPoints. Thats not the bad thing but he reads them word by word. If you do bad on exams that will basically be your grade. He gets cocky and will not let anyone in zoom in you are late( i can understand) but if you get kicked you are on your own, he will complain how he will not accept you in.
He is a good professor. Just don't slack off, be respectful, and he will take care of you. Online learning is tough even for teachers. In this class, you get what grade you deserve. If you do not pay attention or study, you will not get an easy A. However, he gives all the resources you need, and his tutor is extremely helpfuly too
Very fun. Too bad he's retired.
