nice teacher, smart guy, encouraging, visit him during office hours, very helpfu
The best teacher I haveever had.
The smartest, most wonderful teacher I have ever had. The classes are hard but he is so knowledgeable about the subjects that they seem easy!!
His death course in just A BUNCh of writing and reading. Interesting course though! Good teacher, bad breath, can't see him with kids...to weird.
Hard class,Teacher is very knowledgeable but alot of reading and sometime hard to understand the things being taught.
Took him online for world religions. It was a great class, but there was a lot of reading and writing. He is a good teacher.
This class I took online. It was not hard at all. However there was a lot of stinking reading. This class had excelent dialogue all the time kind of a mellow class again great topics.
Be prepared to READ in his class, then read some more. Usually quizzes the class on the previous nights reading. Great discussions, this man knows his subject. He makes himself available during office hours, take advantage of that.
this is the best teacher I've had my entire college career. This professor is interesting, fun and most of all fair. No busy work, but a lot of reading, great class. Don't leave RCC without taking one of his classes, you won't regret it.
Great teacher. Very knowledgable and is willing to help. Class goes by quick cause he always goes off on tangents.
Didn't like him or the class. I guess you'd do good if you were a guy, I think he swings that way.
I took his class online. He is profound and makes you think deeply. There's a lot of reading involved and you have to be on top of it. If you want to learn, take Mr. Mahon's class. A very fair teacher, he gives feedback on students' works. Communicates very well.
I had Prof. Mahon for Hum-9, 10, 15, and 18, and as you can see, he was easily my favorite professor during my five years at RCC. He makes you think, and makes you read...but his classes helped me to become both a better reader and a better writer, along with teaching me a few things. ^_~
Great teacher, a little tough grading on essays, but he makes the class very interesting. I took the class online and would take him again if I needed to!
He is a great teacher. Not an easy class, but it was good to be challenged. Dr. Mahon was very helpful. I would definitely take another class with him.
i took him for world religions and had absolutely no knowledge of any form of religious anything before this class. he doesn't preach or favor one religion more than another. i love structure and this class had plenty. due dates are clear, reading is lengthy but interesting. great teacher.
I originally just took this class to satisfy my Humanities requirement, but if I would have known that Mr. Mahon's classes are this good, I would have taken this class as an elective, even though it has nothing to do with my major. I came into this class not knowing much about any other religion except my own, and I walked out VERY knowledgeable.
Response to assignments were timely and very thourough (sp?). Great class!
Fantastic instruction buffered by plentiful reading. My sole complaint lies in the structure / grading of the essays he assigns (guidelines aren't terribly clear and grading is slightly harsh); otherwise, a terrific class (provided the student can match the steady pace it sets).
Took the class and loved it. All the information was very interesting and easily applicable to life. I loved the way he didn't favor one religion over another. Be prepared to READ.
i did horribly in his class but i did learn so much......he is a truly great teacher and im taking his class again for world religions......he makes things interesting
Religion can usually be a hotbed topic, and yet this teacher puts everyone at ease, doesn't get into the dubious sides of any of the religions and focus's only on its spirit, GREAT TEACHER!
I am in my 3rd class with this professor. His classes are awesome. Be prepared to read, but most of what you read will be interesting. An all around great guy
he rocks!
One of the coolest Professors I've had. He is clear and understanding. Once I lost all my books for class and he let me use his (now that's just sweet). He doesn't care too much about grammar (because his pretty much sucks too). His essays and reading are interesting and I learned a lot. If I needed another Hum class I would totally take him again.

Dr. Mahon is the best instructor for any Humanities course. He makes the class interesting and beneficial. Be prepared to read, but don't get discouraged. Overall, excellent guy and wonderful class! Thanks Dr. Mahon!
I loved him as a teacher, he really does a swell job at communicating the important points
Great guy. I had almost every class he taught.
I really enjoyed going to class because he is so eager to teach. He goes off on alot of tangents but they are always interesting so it did not bother me. He is always willing to explain anything if you ask. Overall a great professor.
Dr. Mahon is the best teacher I have ever had. His weekly quizzes force you to do the reading, and his class discussions further clarify the texts. Awesome teacher. The reading in his class is extensive, but in the long run, this class with serve you better than anyone religions class.
Mr. Mahon is very open minded and tries to keep the class interesting which I especially appreciated because it was an online course and would have otherwise been easy to blow off. He acknowledges good work and corrects mistakes that people make without being condescending. I appreciate his honesty, intelligence, and open mindedness.
Considering this course was online, Professor Mahon handles the lectures and course outlines very well. I feel like all of the students learned a lot from the course, which may have been unexpected.
Mr. Mahon was a very organized and efficient instructor. Class was enjoyable.
Online course - great content and communication! Not what I expected from an online course but he made it interesting and enjoyable despite the 13 required books!
Mr. Mahon was a fantastic instructor. He discussed issues that were interesting and educational. The reading was not overwhelming, most of the material was available online. Conversation was easy as well as enjoyable to generate. Mr. Mahon was the best instructor that I have had at RCC.
Awesome, HELPFUL professor!
The class itself is pretty blah. The way he teaches is pretty boring, you want to fall asleep while he is talking. He seems like a "play by the rules" type of guy. And that goes for your grade too! Not the type that will give extra credit. Don't expect to get an A.
Taking a class about world religions was something I was not looking forward to but I am sooooo glad I took it with this instructor. He is helpful, answers emails, willing to help and the syllabus is straight forward and easy to follow. Does require a lot of reading and writing which is expected.
You earn the grade that you get. Hard class, but I benifited from it. Can't BS. Was just there to get credits and ended up learning a lot. You have to write a lot though. Maybe too much to get a good grade. He reads everything you write, making him one of the few teachers who does more work than the students. Great class if you want to learn.
Hands down the BEST professor I have ever had. He is very responsive, easy to understand, and very passionate about his subject. His approach to American culture will make you see the world differently, and more critically. His teaching influenced me to change my major.
Don't bother bringing paper to class because he says nothing worth taking down. A master of random, distracting tangents about his personal life, I felt I learned more by simply contemplating the ants that infest Lovekin.
Great guy - great professor. He is understanding and will take all the extra time in the world with you to help you grasp a concept. Two of my books were stolen and he let me use his. A lot of reading and medium writing, but it is all interesting and he's open minded. Highly recommended!
Great teacher, will explain everything in great detail. Sometimes too much, but a fun class to take, not much note taking, pay attention and join in the conversation even if you don't know what you're talking about and he will politely give you the answer. Essays are a little tough, but if you've taken an english class you'll be fine.
I took the winter online class...class is hard and a lot of work...the professor is easy to talk to and promt to answer questions. Late work is not permitted. There are two weekly quizzes, a weekly post (250 words), as well as two 5 page papers in the 6 week period of class. If you work hard and read you will do just fine in this class...I did
Online couse of World religions. MUST DO ALL THE READING to pass the class. If you just simply follow the directions to the point, you will pass with no problem.
Classic teacher! Very helpful and easy. Quizzes are based on his lectures and home works. Will help you for papers and will let you revise if you request him. Very humble and understanding. Definitely recommended
Mahon is the best online instructor I've had. There is alot of work in the short-term class, but he is very helpful, responds promptly to e-mails and provides much feedback on quizzes and assignments. He adds videos and pictures to help make the online class more interesting. Don't procrastinate. Do the work and you will get a good grade.
took him online and he was the best online teacher I have ever had. Grades everything extremely fast and is every helpful. A LOT of reading and writing but he rewards good students with good grades. You get the great you deserve.
Professor Mahon is also one of the best online instructors I have ever had.He makes the material interesting and the structure is very easy to follow. There is a lot of reading and writing but once you get the hang of things,it's simple.Plus,he is very helpful so if you get lost along the way, he's there. I highly recommend!
The most well organized and clear online class ever! You know what to do, when to do it and the correct format. Professor Mahon grades work extremely quickly so you know if you are on track. Instruction was insightful and interesting. Above all, Professor Mahon is amazing because he is a just a nice person which is a rare commodity generally, b
Mr. Mahon's class is easy if you just do the ready and do the work. Everything is done in essay format. Quizes, reflect posts, and there are 2 essays. He's very helpfull and fair. I recomend him!
The absolute best college class I've ever taken! I took the world religions online winter course and there were tons of reading assignments but he is very helpful and will grade promptly and offer lots of feedback to help you in areas of concern. He also fills his lessons with media and audio lectures to correspond with the readings.perfect teacher
He was the bext professor I have ever taken!! So easy to understand. Has a demanding course load, but it's college we are expected to work hard for our grades. I received an A and you can too, because he makes that a possibility by providing feedback and a good structure... TAKE HIM!
I took his class last summer for HUM10. the 1st day, his student are 60 students but in the 2nd week only 25 students. more than 50% drop out. just guess why? He is good only in Online class but do not take it on regular class, please.
His online class is set up quite well, it is very easy to get into the routine of the class. This class required lots of reading, however they were all interesting and as long as you do this you should be perfectly fine in the class. Be prepared to write quite a bit, you receive comments on your work that help you improve throughout the course.
Dr. Mahon is the greatest professor I have ever taken. Many years after taking his class, I still observe things I learned in his class all the time. He made me understand why I was in college, and take my education seriously
he is an excellent teacher. he was very clear and informative. I took his online World Religions class. The assignments that we had were interesting, but they still challenged the mind. I would highly recommend taking him as a professor.
Good teacher, a little too difficult in the grading of the essays for the course but still earned and A and he was very helpful and gracious the whole way through.
Pretty easy class and friendly professor, although he tends to run off on tangents a lot, all you have to do is show up and listen. There are no multiple choice tests just 4 five page essays that you have plenty of time to write and a short answer quiz for each day of class.
Alot of reading is required for the class inorder to do the four essays. There are no test just quizzes every class meeting and the class is mainly lecture based. Class is very easy but professor can go off topic at times.
Dr. Mahon is a really interesting person. This class title is what caught me (Death) and it turned out to be really informative. He does tend to go on tangents, but thats the beauty of it. There are no tests, just 4 essays and the weekly quizzes (on the reading assigned from the previous class) and DO THE READING!!! This class is really fun.
he was very into his teaching of world religions. he doesnt go into too much detail on the textbook. i suggest reading ALOT and do good on the midterms. (reading will be very beneficial)
The online World Religions course I took was very enriching. As an atheist, I found the study of the different religions fascinating due to the way Dr. Mahon presented the information, and with the text books he has selected for use with the course.
Good teacher. He really cares about his students. But be prepared, this class is a lot of reading and time consuming but so worth it!!
Are you American? Take this class. Not an American? Take this class. He shows how we developed socially and artistically as a nation. It's like a history, art and lit. class all rolled into one. Best class ever; best prof. ever! Lot of reading and writing. If you can make it past the 2nd week, you can finish with flying colors.
Prof. Mahon is a very nice and helpful teacher. He assigns a lot of reading. If you keep up on the reading, you'll be fine. There is work assigned on a weekly basis and essays. He does not give any exams. He communicates well with the students and he responds to emails in a timely manner. I recommend Prof. Mahon!
Cool professor who responds in a timely fashion and give TONS of helpful feedback. There is a TON of reading for this online class, so timewise it felt like it was taking more than 3 units. Subject matter was interesting, but I like humanites. No exams, but there are weekly essay quizzes timed for 30 min. & weekly writing assignments.
I took his online humanities course. We had to read a few short stories and one novel for this course, in addition to his written lectures. He's a very nice professor, and puts in plenty of effort on his end. I didn't put in enough effort and earned my D. I recommend this instructor.
Online class was alot of work but easy work. No exams, but weekly quizzes where you get four questions and write 125 words on two of the four. Very easy. Don't need any of the books, as he posts ALL the works online. Easy if you keep up! 2 essys that are also very easy and even fun!
This class was hard at first until I started actually doing the reading. It's difficult to get if you don't read any of the voorst or smith book. I took it over the summer and it was hard with all of the reading. The two essays were pretty easy though
I really enjoyed this class. I just recommendou don't miss class and do the reading before each class because he gives quizzes also when you write essays try to write about how we can use the eachings in the 21st century
Dr. Mahon is a very nice and sweet professor. He loves his job and he is very helpful and clear. His tests are easy but will be difficult if you do not read the assigned readings. He respects everyone and their opinions. Highly recommend him for all his courses. A+
He is a very sweet and respectful teacher. He respects all opinions and Religions. He does not judge. He is very clear and understandable. I recommend him for all his courses. Very cool, dude.
Professor Mahon gives a lot of work, but it is to be expected since it was an online class. Keep up with the readings and you will receive a good grade. He responds to emails in a timely manor.
Mr. Mahon is a great professor. The best I have ever had in my RCC experience. He is nice and always answers any questions and comments you have in a very timely manner. I really enjoyed him, I wish other professors would follow his example.
The class is interesting but this guy is a creep. Be careful with him. He is unsavory at best.
Dr. Mahon does a fantastic job incorporating art, religion, ethnicity, and sex in the lesson. The class is a bit challenging if you are not disciplined to read the works and thoroughly analyze them. The class is straightforward. The same assignments are due on the same day at the same time each week. The professor really cares about his students.
Mahon's class is like any other online class with work load. If you have any questions or help he is always helpful. Every week there is a quiz, a discussion post and a post responding to someone else. There is an essay in the middle of the semester and at the end. Just do all the work, do not skip out on assignments and you should get a good grade
Professor Mahon puts a lot of effort into his class, you can tell just by the way the online lecture on blackboard is setup, he tries really hard to give his students all they need to succeed and doesn't leave you out on the dust to "figure it out on your own". The class has a lot of work to it (especially reading) but he makes it very passable.
Professor Mahon is someone I hope everyone takes in their college experience. I took his online World Religions. He integrated so much information about religion with art, music, films, it was really interesting and I found myself researching even outside of the course. It's a good amount of work on your end but he puts in just as much effort.
I don't think the "ease" of the class should be a factor but whatever. Mr Mahon did a wonderful job of interacting with us even though it was an entirely online course. The material was thought provoking and he was always eager to assist with any questions we had. I wish more professors structured their online courses like his. A+ guy
Great teacher with a very fun, enjoyable online class! He gives great feedback and is always on top o the game! Very organized professor and class!
Makes you read heavily in two long books simultaneously. One that isn't easily readable. Not great at giving direction on essays which will knock your grade down. Take someone else that is more clear and grades fairly. I think it is nearly impossible to get an A in his class.
Professor Mahon is great at engaging with students, he provides a lot of historical context with an in-depth look into arts. It's really interesting ideas, it's easy to be involved in class. He does require a lot of reading & writing but I think you'll end up leaving the class feeling like it provided insight & improved your own thinking.
Professor Mahon made HUM 10 as fun of a class as it can be online. I thoroughly enjoyed the videos, music and extra websites he put out as tools for his students. He was very friendly, gave a lot of tips on how to write good essays, and earn better quiz scores. There is a lot of reading and writing in the class, but the work can be done.
Professor Mahon is a great professor. He made good feedback and replied every email you sent. He explained everthing clear. I took HUM10 online in summer, and the reading was pretty hard. There were two textbooks to read. However, if you put effort on it, it is doable. Really good professor!
Dr. Mahon is a great professor, but the course can be very challenging at times. We had to read two books with pretty dense verbiage, one describing the religion and one about the scripture. Overall though, keep up on readings and writings (at least two written quizzes per week) and you will be successful! I learned so much from this course!!
I had Mr. Mahon for Philosophy 121 Online and he is extremely well organized on canvas. He gives great feedback on class discussions. If you are taking the summer course, be warned it is VERY fast paced with 2 quizzes and 1 discussion per week with 2 essays. He grades fairly as long as you give it your best effort.
I am a high school student and took his class at my local CC. Professor Mahon gives really good feedback and makes an effort to give clear criteria and is always looking for ways to help his students and make sure they succeed. Be ready to read though, one book is harder but still class is very enjoyable and easy as long as you do the work.
