Very interesting, Great professor, Very upbeat mood and plenty of movies to grasp further understanding.
Organized Crime & Drugs is an excellent course to take with Professor Mangan (retired DEA agent). Very helpful, has clear objectives, and a friendly personality.
Good teacher and fair tests
He cares about teaching, and his students, and has a great sense of humor
Great teacher, interesting class. Highly recommended.
great class...awesome teacher...i recommend anyone to take it...even if ur not a criminal justice major
Professor Managan is great. He is always well prepared, organized, and caring about students. He’s got great experience both as an academician and a DEA agent. Highly recommended.
A great professor. He was always willing to give a story about something he had done in the past that pertained to the class.
This professor has great information. Great life experiences to add to the course. Sit in the front if you use a tape recorder. This is a rambling professor from the moment he walks in to the moment class is over. Test from notes not book.Don't miss class. Get a study group fast and you can pass!
Has great information and tests are on the material that is actually covered in class or can found in the book. Interesting stories also given during lectures.
Great teacher; interesting lectures. Has experience in DEA + other agencies, so he can relate it back to the class.
all around awesome prof. hope to have him for future courses

Prof. Mangan is the man. Former cop and DEA agent. Awsome stories, genuine interest in students. No attendance policy, but dont miss a lot of classes. I had him for 5 classes while at FAU, awsome teacher. Willing to hook you up with internships. Great guy. Wait till he tells the story on how to make cocaine. That's a good one.
ex dea agent, IF you have good attendence will do well on test and MUST take great notes, write down everything he says, also gives review on what is in book for test.
He's one of the best FAU can offer. He has the knowledge and experiences required for the subject matter.
Excellant professor. Teaches well and has alot of relative expierecne in the field. One of the best professors i have had bar none.
The best professor I've ever known. Unlike the rest of the college professors listed here, he has experience in the field as an Ex- DEA Special Agent and relates the material back to his interesting old work stories. Take this professor for every class possible!
Lots of guest speakers (FBI, DEA, Secret Service, Diplomatic Security, ATF, DOJ, ICE, Fed. Air Marshals etc). A lot like a semester long career fair. Very interesting!! Must go to class and take good notes but if you do, easy A. I used to be a bio major before taking one of Prof. Mangan's clases. By far, the best professor at FAU.
Very good teacher! Probably one of the best in the dept. He is always looking out for students in terms of internships and jobs. He has a great knowledge of CJ. Tests aren't too bad and you only have to look up answers in the text book for the exam, not read it! Just go to class and you'll be fine.
Interesting professor, lots of expertise tests are relatively easy if you study your notes and read the book
Prof. Mangan is one of the best teachers for CJ at FAU. He's interesting, funny, and an expert at what he teaches. He always through in personal stories that were relevant to the material. Take him for every class you can! He's great!
****, ****, ****, but he is a former DEA agent
Nothing to brag about. Way too over-rated!
One of the best teachers I have had at FAU. He knows what he is talking about, and is in a good mood everyday. He has a great sense of humor, and will tell awesome stories about his experiences in the criminal justice field.
Great teacher. If you can take this guy for at least one class! His tests can be hard but he gives extra points throughout the semester if you answer questions in class correctly so my advice is just raise your hand regardless of if you know the answer because you'll eventually get one right. The extra pts. help!
He is the best criminal justice teacher at FAU. Go to his class, take notes, study a little and you have an A. He is very interested in teaching and knows what he's talking about. He has a good sense of humor and can keep the class entertaining.
Great professor. Makes classes interesting. He is one of the best. His Organized Crime class is awesome !! Just take a good notes. He gives a pretty detailed review the tests.
Great professor who was in the DEA for decades. Textbook is very boring, burns well.
I didn't like him at all. I don't know what every one thinks is so great about him. All you do is take notes from what he says, there is no structure and it's impossible to take down everything he says. He quizes you on the videos he shows
by far the smartest criminal justice teacher here. always willing to help and shares his personal DEA experiences. take as many crim. classes with him as you can
I took 2 classes with Mangan. The classes are always good and entertaining, but the exams are NOT easy. He tests on a LOT of minutia. When you watch a video write down EVERYTHING. One exam question I has asked what town a video was taped in. Who writes down the town??? So just take VERY detailed notes.
He's okay, but very anal about you being late to his class.
THE BEST AT FAU. had 3 courses with him--anyone complaining is someone too lazy to study or attend class.
I just finished this course last week--the best course I have ever taken at FAU. Prof brought in guest speakers from every CJ agency you could think of--incredible group of speakers. Plus, he alwasy shared info on jobs and internships. Great prof!
Professor Mangan was awesome. I'm not a CJ major and was totally interested in everything we learned. He keeps it interesting and has good stories from when he was in the DEA. Pay attention to every movie he shows in class and write down info for every mobster for the second test. He doesn't trick you and is very straightforward.
Amazing professor. He teaches what he had experience in, so the work is put to you on an understanding level. Mangan is the type of professor you want to take just to take a class with him. Lecture is clear and thorough and exams are a perfect reflection!!!
I cant understand why students like this guy. He is completely smug and rude and has bad days where you should stay away. His grading is completely arbitrary. I didn't do well in his class, obviously, despite the fact that I took meticulous notes and only missed 1 class. Not a nice man at all!! Hard Tests!!
Very good Teacher. I have taken him for 2 classes and would highly recommend.
this dude is for real, hw a former dea agent so he has a lot of stories from the field. he always gives reviews on what the test will be on and he presents the material seriously but funny.class is never boring.
The BEST prof at FAU. If you don't get the humor or can't do well in the class despite good attendance--then you shouldn't be in college. Go back to community college.
He is by far the most interesting, dedicated teacher there is here in fau!His class in never boring, many stories from his days in the DEA! Exams reflect 90% of his notes. I wish he would teach more c.j. courses. His class is not easy showing up to class and taking lots of notes is required to do good but like I said before it is never boring.
i took fundamentals of criminal investigation in the summer. he teaches exactly whats on the test, n gives you a review of Exactly whats on the test, and what chapters and exactly what in those chapters u need to know. Easy A. class, then a break, then a movie on whatever the class was about.
DO NOT TAKE CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR!! I don't know why he has so many positive ratings. I really think he fills them out himself. He like to consider himself popular with the students. He's a complete up tight square, everything must be done his way, students must kiss butt, tests have trick questions, if he doesn't like you you're screwed!
Sounds like somebody didn't study and got a bad grade--LOL-sour grapes are easy to spot. Mangan does not even teach what ever course they listed there--i checked. This prof is EXCELLENT
Great teacher...you will learn alot in his class and he practically spoon feeds the exams
Best class I have taken in CJ--he brings in guest speakers for all kinds of agencies--he tells you about available jobs,internships--he cares and most of them don't. Who ever wrote "if he doesn't like you you're screwed" is crazy. There are 3 exams--add em up, divide by 3 and it is your grade--and u can go over them in his office.
He gives a review sheet for all the information in the book (which is never much) and then all you have to know are the class notes. Put a bit of effort in and it's an easy A, not to mention it's awesome information just to know. Good "cocktail party" stuff. This goes for his policing in america and investigation class as well.
He is very passionate about class since he used to be in DEA. He gives study giude an class notes but your expected to go above a beyond in order to get an A on test. At times he can be rude when you ask to clarify something. Not a bad teacher just needs to give more opportunitys to get extra credit.
Mangan is an awesome professor and knows what he is talking about, being a former member of the DEA. Tests aren't too hard if you study your notes. Attendence is not mandatory. He gives you a study guide for all of the tests and gives out extra credit points for answering questions in class.
Your scantron MUST be completely straight. No bends, no wrinkles or he won't accept your exam.
Had him for Criminal Investigation and Org. Drug business. Overall, I believe both classes were fair. Had him for Field Experiment he was the internship coordinator, my internship was difficult to set up he was not helpful and even though I did well he was very unclear through out the whole process. Be prepared to be given a hard time.
To the dope that wrote about the scantron sheet--IT IS THE TESTING CENTER that won't accept wrinkled up scantrons--that's why Mangan won't take them. Get a grip. He's a great, interesting, caring prof!
He makes class so interesting. He is a must take professor if you really want to understand Investigations and being involved in the CJ system. His tests are not hard provided you study for them (welcome to college). If you can't do well in his class save yourself some money and drop out of College.
Had Mangan for criminal investigation, Organized crime and International Criminal justice systems. Very good professor. Very clear and concise and makes the class interesting. Also, gives out extra credit for answering questions. However you need to attend class. As long as you attend class, do the study guide and study you should get at least a B
This guy ROCKS! Former DEA Agents so he knows his stuff. 75 multiple choice and 25 true or false about 15 of those ?s are from the movies we watch in class. he gives review and his test is straight from the review. You have to put efforts into failing his course. I love his his classes!
This guys sucks!! If you have a chance to take another professor, do it!! His tests are hard and he doesn't review or if he does, it's 5 minutes. Take someone else trust me
great teacher. makes class fun. He gives notes in class but doesnt use the book. BUY THE BOOK!!!! The teast are made up of notes in class PLUS the book. If you dont read you will fail. Go to class and read before the test and you will pass.
Always drawn to his courses. I think I've taken all of his courses. Some are tougher than others. They all cover a lot of material. Very detailed presentation of the materials. Shares stories to keep the class interesting. Very good professor! All this despite the fact that he was with DEA. No ones perfect! lol
This organized crime class was the best class I have ever taken sooooo interesting I actually looked forward to go to class. You must have the book! Before the exam you will get a review sheet if you cover everything on the review sheet and the names sheet you will get an easy A on the test and in the class if you can't pay attention to this interesting material then you should either take 20 adderols before any class or just drop out of college. Mangan is the man and did I mention retired DEA
mr mangan by far is one of the best professors at FAU. He knows what he is talking about because he worked in the field for over 25 years he is amazing and informs you on everything you will need to know. If you need any helphe welcomes you into his office
By far one of the best Criminal Justice teachers at FAU. 3 tests all multiple choice and he gives out extra credit through out the semester. Just go to every class, take good notes && you'll be straight. Book isn't really needed.
Class was pretty easy. Mangan is a great professor.
one of the best professors I have had by far, definitely a nice guy. Took him for organized crime and the business of drugs and it was the best class I have had so far. take him!!!!
Amazing professor. You learn a LOT in his class of Criminal Investigation. As long as you do the exam review you will get a good grade. Gives extra points if you answer a question right.
Mangan is honestly the best teacher I have taken so far. Yes you are going to have to take notes and come to class in order to get a good grade if you do not come to class you are going to fail without a doubt. His tests are not that bad just study what he tells you to and the lowest you will get is a B. This is college so you will have to work.
Professor Mangan is an AMAZING professor his classes are so interesting! He uses movies and lectures and his study guides are extremely helpful. LOVE HIM!
Professor Mangan had one of the best lectures I have ever taken. He made class very interesting. The entire grade is based off of 3 exams so make sure to study hard for all of them. Though you can prpbably get away without using the book if you are knowledgeable of the class already, I would recomend it because half of the study guides come from it
Fantastic professor. Attendance is a must if you want to do well on all of your exams! Keep up with the reading assignments because he incorporates a lot into his exams.
He gives you a review but it's only like 1/4 of the test. Everything else on the test is a surprise it's not even in the book. If you take him good luck
If you want to know EVERY LITTLE DETAIL about the Mafia, then take Professor Mangan. He's a good professor, but his exams are not reflective AT ALL of his study guides. Also, he gives a list of about 40 names of different mobsters to learn about on the exam, but doesn't tell you WHAT to study. If you decide to take this class, good luck.
I was excited for this class thinking it would be mostly about drugs but just about the first two weeks are. Exams are brutal and the study guides he gives covers about 1/3. some things on the exam are nothing he's ever mentioned before. lectures are boring. hard class, wouldn't take him again.
If you go to class and take notes with the reviews he gives for every test you will be good to go! I loved his class and would take any class from him. You have to want to learn to do good in his classes but it is worth it,
Professor Mangan, has great knowledge on the topic of Organized Crime & Drugs. He was an ex DEA agent for 25 years and has some really cool stories about his career. No reason you can't get a passing grade. His class lectures reflect exactly what the tests are about including a separate study guide he provides you with.
Professor Mangan is simply great. Although sometimes a bit rapid, and you better keep up with taking notes. The content of the class is great and he knows what he is talking about and the full class is interesting. Very professional, i enjoyed taking his course and would definitely take him again.
Great Professor, Former DEA Agent for like 25 yrs. he goes a bit fast on his material and its not an easy grade but you will learn a lot in his class. to pass his exam you need to read the book, take good notes, and pay attention to all the videos he plays, he is a bit old school. no power point notes so u need to take good notes. Fun class. STUDY

Prof Mangan is an amazing professor despite what some may think. He is a former DEA and will go into some flashbacks sometimes. Straightforward with notes. Exams can be passed w/o book but if you want a 100, get the book! You can manage with someone else's notes but it's better to hear him lecture yourself. 3 tests, extra credit in class.
I'll start out with this, Prof Mangan is an amazing professor and he knows his stuff really well and knows how to lecture effectively. With that said, I found his tests pretty hard even after studying. Only about 10% of the class got A's on tests (he shows the number of students to the letter grade). His class was fun & i did learn but he is tough.
He is an amazing Professor very professional. If you want to learn take him explains the material very well. I do not think the tests are hard, but they are not easy either, you just need to study his notes, and read the book.
May need the book to help you study. Some material from the test do come from the book. If you study you should do fine. Also, some of material on study guide may not be on test, so don't rely on study guide too much. Study mostly from notes. He is a one funny character, I should say. Have to go to class to get notes, but not mandatory He's okay ..
Best professor. You will learn alot. Professor is extremely experienced and knowledge. He actually uses real life events as examples and real situations that happened during his career. Gives 3 tests. If you get a 100% on the 1st or 2nd test he gives you an A on the final. 80% of material comes from in class lectures rest is from book.
Don't see how he has so many good ratings. He's not a bad professor but he's not the best either. This class is not an "easy A or B" if u DON'T read the book. He even tells u that u WILL need the book in order to do well. He does give study guides but they are not that helpful. Have to study mainly from notes & book. He can be rude at times also..
Professor Mangan is not on top of you about your work. You have to be responsible enough to turn in your work on time. As long as you follow the syllabus rules there is no way you can fail. I would take him again.
I love this professor! He made the class interesting with stories of his DEA history. All tests were based on specific lecture notes and he gave a precise study review for each one. If you studied hard using his guide it is easy to ace the exams. Doesn't mark attendance but he shows videos in class which are on the exam! Would take him again.
This professor is great! He does not do attendance, no homework, no online assignments, no quizzes, no assignments. Only three tests. And for the three tests he gives you the study guide, but it only covers half the test. You will need the powerpoint notes he shows in class. And he shows A LOT of videos. I never went to class and I got an easy A.
This class was average. Your final grade is based on only 3 tests so you must do well on them. The material is not difficult, you have to write the notes from the powerpoints and study them. Attendance is important because he shows videos that contain questions needed for the exam. Take him!
Professor Mangan is a great teacher! Go to class, take notes, pay attention to the videos he shows and you'll pass. Only 3 exams and he gives a clear study guide so you know exactly what to expect. Gives funny stories about his days as a DEA agent, would take him again!
Great professor! I took him for Criminal investigation and Organized crime. Go to class, pay attention and take notes! The majority of his tests are taken from the notes! He gives study guides but you need to study! You get what you put in.
3 exams and you have to study in order to pass but still very easy. He did McGraw hill and their were a few quizzes on that site. All notes were on powerpoints, so you have to take them yourself because he doesn't post them online. Very easy class though, and would take him again!
Very experienced in subject matter. Relies heavily on videos. Three tests that's it. If you want an experience other than dry delivering of information, then maybe this class isn't the best choice. With that being said it isn't like the information isn't in itself interesting.
Professor Mangan is awesome! He's well-versed in the subject area and has a lot of good stories. As long as you pay attention to his lectures and study for exams, you'll do great. All of his lectures are very interesting, especially regarding mobsters. Pay attention to the videos and take notes. Clear study guides, so you know what to expect.
I loved professor Mangan, he is awesome !! His lectures are powerpoints and he does not post them online so you have to go to class. Study all of his lectures and you will pass no problem ! this is a higher level course so its not super easy but it is very interesting. I would take him again. He is a ex DEA Agent so his stories are very cool.
