Prof. Mannion has a passion for history that shows in the way he lectures. He offers excellent recommendations for outside reading materials as well as videos that are relevant to the era being discussed. Class is never boring and he is very laid back. Go to class...it is definitely worth the time. He is a gem and KSU is lucky to have him!
Wonderful professor who loves what he's teaching. Shows great movie clips and brings in book selections from his personal library. Easy to take good notes from his well organized lectures. Tests are from notes and a special essay project. You'll gain an appreciation for history from this prof.
Great professor. Loves teaching and knows his stuff. Test are easy and class is very interesting. Shows a lot of material
Good class. If you read the text and attend class you can get a good grade. Highlights some of the quiz and test materials while lecturing.
Fantastic teacher, utilizes great techniques as far as making class fun! All quizzes are from notes and final from notes and quizzes. Again, just a great class!
Great class! Be prepared to take LOTS of notes, no PowerPoint available; all quizzes and tests come from lecture and book. Be sure to read carefully and study notes. Interesting material. Extra credit available but have to work for it.
This Professor should not be teaching. He does not want to help you! He is the worse teacher ever at KSU. Do not take him for history, i repeat, do not take him!!!
He is a funny and helpful teacher. I loved his class. But be prepared to take a lot of notes.
Great Prof. Easy to understand and lectures well. If you want an A go to every lecture, listen, and take notes. He tells you what will be on the quizes during lecture.
What a great class! If you show up to every class, take notes, and listen you will make an A. He will help you if you don't understand something. He gives optional extra credit for those who need it. I recommend him for History!! Great guy!
Professor Mannion, is an awesome teacher!! If you want an "A" you have to attend class. He tells you want you neeed to know for quizzes. Great Professor!!!!
Great, great teacher. Made the 3 hour lectures interesting. Made late-20th century history personal. Go to class, take notes, and you're set for an A - and he has a very generous grading policy
TAKE THIS CLASS. Cannot give enough praise for this prof, he is so enthusiastic about the subject that you actually want to listen to his 3 hour lecture. Alot of information but all you have to do is show up for class and learn the work. Grades are six quizzes, mid, final, extra credit. I got a 98, did not know a stitch about Amer hist prior to.
My first C ever, but not the professors fault. He was an AWESOME professor. Extremely nice and made it interesting.I would definitely take his class again.
Prof. Mannion is a great prof. He is passionate about history and has some great stories as well. If you come to class to listen and take notes, you will do well in this class. He is helpful and wants you to to well
This guy is okay for an 8am Saturday class teacher... The problem is, half of what he said conflicted with what I learned in high school, or what people who went throuh the history have told me... so I was very lost the entire time.
Great Teacher....as long as you come to class he tells you exactly what will be on the quizzes and exams. Attendance is not mandatory but it is key to a good grade. His lectures are very interesting, especially for a Sat 8am class. I would take him again.
He is the worse Prof I have EVER had!!!! He failed me bc I was in the hospital and missed 2 of the quizzes!! Would not allow me to make them up, said it wasn't his fault I was sick with the flu! and yes, I had the Dr's notes to prove to him! Doesn't care about his students at all! First time in my life that I've made anything below an A! HORRIBLE!1
Great class. Professor Mannion is quite knowledgable of the material, and very passionate and engaging. His tone, cadence, and excitement create a powerful learning atmosphere.
Professor Mannion is a great teacher. Make sure that you show up for class because a good portion of what he lectures about will be on your quizzes and test. If you study and show up to class you should get a passing grade. Make sure that on quiz days you get to class on time since the quizzes are timed. Overall I really enjoyed his class!
I really enjoyed this class. Professor Mannion is really creative and intriguing and he definitely made it worth getting up for class on a Saturday at 8 am. The tests and quizzes are straight from the notes. Attendance is not mandatory but necessary to make a good grade. He drops your two lowest quiz grades, so there is no way you can fail from tha
He is a nice prof. i made a decent grade in his class even though i never showed up for some.Lots of extra credit work to make up for lost points. Awesome prof!!!
Great Professor. I never paid attention in a History class until now. If you come to class quizzes and tests are easy. Take this professor, you won't regret it.
Awesome teacher. Great humor and planning of the class period beforehand allowed my once-free Saturday morning now taken up by an almost 3-hour history course to pass by extremely smoothly. Very punctual, he arrives on time everyday. Plenty of personal stories pertaining to class add humor and help take the edge off in the mornings. Take his class.
I might have done better if I had put more time into his class but he is a great professor. His Saturday class is worth going to because he makes it fun. He has a great sense of humor & very down to earth. Quiz, test, & bonus q's are right to the point & clear. There's plenty of opportunity 4 extra credit points. You won't go wrong w/this professor
Excellent professor! If you've never considered taking a saturday morning class, this would be the time. What an enjoyable experience. I actually couldn't wait to get to class each week. I am now sad that the semester is over. Dr. Mannion has a passion for history and it comes through in his lectures (which aren't really lectures). Great and fun us
Dr. Mannion is very excited about history and it shines through with his teaching. The class was not difficult, he told you exactly what to expect on the quizzes/tests. You must come to class and pay attention to do well. I would definitely recommend him.
TAKE THIS CLASS. I know it is saturday morning but you will not go wrong with him. He is funny and a brillant teacher.
Great professor. Ontime evey class, a true educator, has a passion for what he does. If you come to class you will pass, the class is setup with bonus and extra credit. If you miss class you will miss opportunities to improve your grade. Make sure you stick around until the end of class, most extra credit came as we were walking out the door.
LOVE HIM! LOVE THIS CLASS! Very straight forward. Come to class each week and you will learn and ace his multiple choice quizzes and exams. Best class I have ever taken!
Loved this professor, very funny! Keeps you interested, even though it's such an early class.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! The fact that it is at 8am on a Saturday shouldnt dissuade anyone from taking Dr. Mannion. He is a gift to KSU. Take notes good, study them and you should do well. Quizes are not the easiest in the world but with a little effort acing them is not out of reach. Would definitely take Mannion again!
Asset to KSU. I have never been so intersted in History until I took his class. I really could not wait to go to class every week. It is an 8AM Saturday class, but it really didn't bother me. Quizes are not difficult and he is very willing to help you out. Take this class!
Easy A.Interesting class come he'll tell you everything to expect on the qizzes & mid& fin.Extra is given in class.Bring your recorder it's a lot of material in 2&45 mins so you'll need one.Dosen't like class participation so don't bother.Be on time for test and quiz they are timed & if your late to bad.Drops lowest 2 quizzes.Take yur own notes.
This class was a nightmare. There are a total of 6 quizzes every other week in the class and two exams:Midterm and a Final. His notes are very vague class is sooo boring the test and quizzes are misleading, you never know what to expect. I would avoid this History class. His quizzes are time 25 minutes, not enough time to finish smh!
Fantastic class. I think he is the greatest history teacher on the face of the planet. He vividly brings American History to life. Even if you don't like history, if you go to class, take notes and ask question you will enjoy this class.
Great teacher. He uses alot of movies and personal stories to help make class go by quicker. You will take alot of tests (8 total) but if you actually went to all the classes, you shouldn't need to study for any of them. The book is only used for extra credit so don't bother.
Mr. Mannion is very nice & interesting & I learned alot in his class. He will have lots of quizzes. 1 just about every other week. So for me it was kind of hard to keep up with. There is lots material so i strongly suggest a recorder. He gives extra credit questions & an optional extra credit paper. So it's obvious he wants his students to succeed.
Mr. Mannion is an GREAT teacher.I was not a lover of history but once he teaches and explains everything,I had a differnet outlook on the class. You must be there to take notes.Test are on notes took about in class.Don't need text book but only for extra credit. Easy A if you come to class.
He's a great teacher shows enthusiasm in what he teaches. Easy A.
Great guy. Uses videos to keep interesting. Very good teacher. Just take notes. Don't need the book.
Obviously wants his students to succeed. Such a nice person. Made this class so interesting.
He is awesome!I really like his teaching style. Makes jokes, keeps things interesting. You don't need to buy the textbook unless you intend on answering the extra credit questions. I would definitely recommend him!
This was an 8am class, and if it had not have been for his vibrant personality and excited teaching approach, I would have struggled! He did an impeccable job keeping the classes attention and focus! He is very knowledgeable about history and you can tell he really has a passion for teaching it! Amazing, interesting, & pretty easy class! Take him!
He is the one who narrate the history in very interesting way.In class you automatically you get involved in the class and take notes. Conduct 6 quizzes. Questions in quiz will be tricky. Need through understanding of the subject from notes and book. Mid term will be fair. If you study - you can get A for sure. No attendance needed.
Dr. Mannion's lectures were always intriguing, genuine, and consistent! He displayed great interpersonal skills which encouraged students to develop a rapport with him. In addition,he'd share videos and seasoned literature eg.) LIFE magazines circa'60s and '70s pertinent to his lectures!Overall, an advocate for con't education !
This teacher makes History very difficult! He makes it as if your taking forensic science. Fun class, but he is too serious about History as if it's your Major. He twist all the quiz/test question so that you're TOTALLY confused! I spent countless hours studying and could never pass any quiz. I will not recomment him to NO ONE!
Professor Mannion made Am History interesting even for Saturday morning. Quizzes and tests given at the beginning of class so be on time. pay attention to videos, some questions on tests/quizzes. overall good experience in his class.
BEST HISTORY CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN! GREAT GUY AND ENJOYS HIS SUBJECT. TAKE GOOD NOTES AND READ THE MATERIAL AND YOU WILL DO WELL.
Quizzes every other week in this class. The quizzes are mainly based on his lectures. The lectures include videos, powerpoints, books, and guest speakers. Does give extra credit opportunity.
You genuinely walk in and want to like him and learn. The highest grade on a quiz I received was because I read the book on my own prior to the first class. He enjoys talking about himself and where he was at every point in history. His opinion is the only one that counts. If you take this class anyway study and be cautious of "this'll b on quiz"
Best history class I ever had. Plenty of opportunity for extra credit. Mannion knows his stuff and keeps class interesting. Do a presentation for easy extra credit. Good videos and guest speaker.
Overall an okay class. Very clear grading. Quiz every other week and you grade it in class- but helps you learn the material. 6 quizzes, a midterm, and a final. Handful of extra credit opportunities- DO them! If you miss a quiz- you get a 0- but he will drop your lowest quiz grade. If you come to class, study, and take notes- you should be fine.
He's a fantastic professor that really loves the subjects that he teaches. He tells you exactly whats going to be on the tests during his lectures, so make sure you come to class. Take good notes and that will be exactly what you see on the exam. Gives extra credit for coming to class. Reading the textbook isn't necessary. Would take him again.
He is a simple teacher. Regular quizzes and tests. No surprises, except for random bonus questions sometimes. He gives extra credit, not alot but some. He keeps his grades averaging about 80 so if people start doing better he makes quizzes and tests harder. I average about an 80 and dont really study at all. Overall good teacher.
The only reason I say tests are tough is because there is only a midterm and final, so a lot is packed into the two tests. He switched over to D2L quizzes and tests though so they got easier. He gives extra credit randomly, and it's really easy. Plus you can teach a topic to the class for extra credit. Kind of dull at times but really likes history
Professor Mannion is amazing! His class is interesting and the quizes aren't too difficult! If you go to class and pay attention you'll do well in the class. I hear other students complain about their teacher for this class, but honestly I look forward to coming to this class! TAKE HIS CLASS!
this professor has very passion in his subject , attandence is mandatory but if you want to do it well yo have to go to class
Pretty straightforward professor. No book necessary. Simply show up (mandatory), take some decent notes, enjoy the storieslecture, and you'll make a pretty good grade. I found it to be an easy A.
He knows what he's talking about. I enjoy learning about history so I liked coming to class even though it was early in the morning. Gives online assignments sometimes instead of going to class. Dry factual lectures. A respectable man.
His tests are nothing like the notes he goes over in class. You only get 26 minutes to take a 25 question test. The questions are very in depth. I would not recommend taking this teacher for this class.
The tests in this class are insanely difficult, notes won't help very much. 25 minutes for a 25 question test is just not enough time. He really enjoys the subject and that's obvious, he just doesn't give us the information required to do well in his class. This is my first review and I'm only doing it to help!
I took thorough notes and showed up to every class and have done really well on the tests. Very easy if you're willing to read and show up to every class. He tells you if something will likely be on the test.
He shows movies the whole semester and then goes over the exact questions that will be on the test. Tests are online and he RECOMMENDS that you use your notes that you went over in class about the movie.
I took him for history and tried my best to pass the class. His tests are extremely hard and online. There are 25 questions with only 25 minutes to do them. I studied hard and also looked up some of the questions and still came barely close to passing.
Great class. Prof Mannion is very helpful and very passionate about history. Take good notes and you will do well. I used the book only for extra credit.
Bad reviews come from people who don't show up, pay attention, study or do not take good notes. Prof Mannion is awesome and gives really great lectures! I was so interested in his class. All you've gotta do is be familiar with his lecture notes in order to do well on the tests. 26 minutes for 25 questions online is plenty if you know the material
Dr. Mannion is a great professor. Very passionate about history, and one of the most knowledgeable professors I've had for any subject here. Tests are online, and are not easy. You have 26 minutes to take a 25 question test. You have to come to class, and take good notes. If you take good notes, you should be fine.
Awesome professor, upfront and knowledgeable. 4 test, a midterm and a final, drops the lowest test grade. Gives a few opportunities for stupid easy ec points. If you come to class and take notes you should be fine. Gives guided notes to the chapters for those who are poor with attendance. 40 seat size has test in person, bigger classes online test.
Fantastic professor, very knowledgeable. I enjoyed this class, his lectures, and videos. Tests were tricky and he does grade tough.
Really great teacher! His lectures are always really interesting and normally whatever is on his power points are always on our quizzes so you don't have to really read the book.
I really enjoyed this class. His lectures were always interesting and broken up by lots of cool videos. All test questions come straight from the notes he has on the board. As long as you take good notes from each class (recommend typing them because he goes through a lot) you can easily get an A. Gives multiple chances for extra credit.
Great lecturer, easy class to pass. Gives out extra credit by offering you to do presentations and by giving out bonus questions at the end of some classes, extra credit points will go to your total average. All tests are online and easy as long as you show up to class and take good notes. Highly recommend.
Mannion's class is VERY lecture heavy but the lectures are very important and moderately interesting. Your grade will rely on the ONLINE tests and the INCLASS final. He does extra credit dependent on inclass attendance. EASY A if you show up and take good notes.
VERY VERY nice guy. Lecture HEAVY, but he makes it as interesting as possible. 4 online tests based solely from his lectures so notes have to be specific. 25 min to take 25 question online tests. Final is in class and consists of essay question and a multiple choice section. Go to class and take notes and you can easily get an A/B
Definitely my favorite professor this semester. Gives very good lectures and tests are all online except for the final exam. They're (25 Qs, 25 mins) based solely on the lectures, so you need to come to class and take good notes. It will help to look over notes before taking the tests so the time constraints won't be an issue.
his lectures were disorganized, they had nothing to do with the quiz. A bunch of quizzes. never even read the book. He would lecture about material for NEXT quiz on the day that you have a quiz. I am not a sorry student and I am struggling to pass. He's a nice man but that's it. His power points we half typed. Just take another professor.
Hes a great guy and good teacher. Gotta take notes. All "test" online except the final. I liked him alot. There's an EC ppt oppurtunity.
HE'S SO FUNNY. Great guy, lectures can be boring but you're almost always let out early. Attendance non mandatory. Only grades in class are the 4 tests and those are all online, so super easy. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
His test are not online do not be fooled that is a different class. He is a really nice professor but nice don't mean he's good. His test had NOTHING to do with anything he said in his lectures NOTHING. He does not put the slides up so you can review them for the test. He does not even spell all the words out completely on the PowerPoint's.
All the people who are raving about his online test probably used the internet to find the answers that's why its so easy, the last test is in class and if you do not pass that test he see that as an indicator that you probably cheated. He's funny, but that's it, there's better profs at Kennesaw, because his test had NOTHING to do with the lecture.
Awesome professor. Great guy and very helpful. Knows his stuff. Easy extra credit points.
Great teacher, super funny and sarcastic. 10/10 recommend. He was amazing
He does powerpoint lectures in class and shows videos occasionally that he will test you on but he doesn't post the notes to D2L, just an outline of the chapters. Optional extra credit presentation. Tests are pretty easy, 25 questions but on test day he lectures first and will leave the last 30 minutes for you to take it which I hated.
You have 4 online tests and a final in class. Its all lecture but he tries to make it interesting and shows videos. If you pay attention youll do well. The people who complain on here arent right hes great. Attendance isnt mandatory but most days hell pick a random handful of names and theres extra credit. Textbook isnt really needed.
He is a great professor. He tries to make his lectures interesting, and shows videos. He occasionally gives you extra credit if you're in class. there are online tests and an in class (non cumulative) final. Just take notes in class and pay attention and you'll get an A or B.
Really good professor. Lecture heavy, if you show up to class and take good notes then you'll do really well. Tests are online. Gives extra credit. Would definitely take again. Cool guy too
2112 was a large class size*. Great guy, lecture heavy, usually lets you out early, offers extra credit. 4 all online tests, drops the lowest test score, no papers/projects, tests were difficult because they were randomized and specific questions. If you show up every day and take good notes, you'll do fine. I rented the textbook and never used it
There are 4 online tests and a final that is NOT cumulative. He drops lowest test grade from the 4 online, and the final counts for 2 and is in class. Tests are pretty much straight out of the lecture, so go to class. He offers extra credit and is really easy going. Lectures aren't bad and sometimes class gets out early.
4 online tests, can use your notes. Drops the lowest, final in class. Pretty simple class (taking notes then test) and pretty funny guy.
There were 4 tests and a final. All tests were online, but with a lockdown browser. The final is in class and counts for 40% of you're grade. He drops your lowest test grade.
There were 3 online tests, and 2 in class test. The final is in class, and counts for almost half of your grade. He drops your lowest online test grade. He offers some extra credit. Tests come straight from the lecture, so go to class. Very to the point with lectures. He will let you out 15-20 minutes early most of the time.
This class was great because I learned a lot about History without being tested like a History major. Since it is a Georgia required class for all majors, you should not have to be a history buff to get a good grade. Professor Mannion will teach you everything you need to know for the tests and he is also very inspirational and funny.
You have to go to class, take notes during the lectures, and read the book in order to do well on his tests. He doesn't put any notes on D2L and the questions on his tests can be tricky so make sure to read them carefully
Attendance is mandatory in order to get the notes. He doesnt post the notes on D2l. Tests are directly from the lecture. There are 3 online tests and 2 in class and he drops the lowest online test. Offers extra credit that very easy to receive. Never used the textbook. Just go to class everyday, take good notes, and youll be okay.
Great guy, and he's funny. But this class is pretty tough. He doesn't post his powerpoints online, and he goes through them super fast in his lectures. There are essentially no resources to help you study. Just listen to the lectures and cross your fingers. I bet there are definitely easier American History classes out there.
He's hilarious, and shows many videos. We always. leave 10-15 minutes before we are supposed to on regular days, but on quiz days it's usually 30-45 minutes before we are supposed to. He is hilarious and has many stories. He knows how to keep class interesting and follows the syllabus very closely. Many opportunities for extra credit.
Dont take this professor. The class is solely based on his lectures which he flies through. So quick to the point that you cant write the info fast enough on your paper. His powerpoints are only simple bulleted points so good luck having to study from notes that have no real information on it. This teacher sucks. 25 min for 25 question tests.
This professor makes this class so hard. Nice guy, but tests are on lockdown browser with webcam recording. Only took this class because a friend that said she had him, said she was able to use her notes bc the tests had no webcam. Guess he recently just changed it. Tests are so difficult, and theres answer choices a,b,c,d,e. Do not take this class
This class is TERRIBLE. He is so fast and boring in his lectures. All of his slides are bullets with no substantial information, and all of his quizzes are based solely on the slides. I havent missed a class but I have failed to make above a 72 along with most of the class. Web Cam recorded quizzes, with 25 mins for 25 questions, super detailed.
Not easy but a great guy. Come to class and take good notes and you'll do well. Very helpful, gives tons of extra credit.
Pretty easy class if you study hard. Does use lockdown browsers, and tests can be sometimes confusing. But he drops the worst test grade, and really chill class. I recommend to take him.
Lecture and videos. Take good notes and you'll do fine. Really good guy, funny, helpful. Lots of extra credit.
Prof Mannion is a great guy. He is very nice, willing to help you out, and is always welcome to meet up and go over things. BUT, you will struggle in this class if you're not good at history. The tests are lockdown browser w/ webcam and you can not use notes or books. Every answer choice seems like there are two correct answers.
If you have common sense, you will steer clear of this class. I got All As this semester in all of my classes (including organic chem) EXCEPT this one. This is not an easy A and i was like a point away from a C. Hes a nice guy but the tests are just so difficult. I even attended lectures every week and still barely pulled through
This professor is great. I usually hate U.S. history because it's boring, but he makes the lectures interesting. One thing I'd recommend is that you use his chapter outlines!! They are all you need to know for the quizzes and the final. I didn't get an A on any of the quizzes, but I got an A on the final and got an A in the class.
decent guy. Really knows what hes teaching however his PowerPoint slides are atrocious and you really gotta pay attention to what he talks about as well as writing what is on the powerpoints. USE THE CHAPTER OUTLINES. It took me 3 tests to finally give them a chance and I did good on the test when I used them. Theres also a lot of extra credit
Hes Very nice. But his class is impossible to pass. He tells you to follow his outlines but he doesnt elaborate on the topics in depth like his tests require. The wording on his tests are really unusual and difficult. Almost every question has 2 right answers but he will only except the answer he thinks is right. Chapters are 28 pages long.
Take Professor Mannion if you can! 4 tests (25 questions each) on lockdown unfortunately, but he gives you chapter note outlines that are word for word the tests!!! Also gives extra credit! If you put in the effort, he literally will not fail you. He told our class that word for word. Just download the outlines and your golden!
He is nice but his tests are super difficult for no reason! He says to use the outline notes but it barely helps. It is hard to understand his ideas and it seems he doesn't complete any thought. He gives extra credit which is good. I have attended every single class and I am not doing well still. Even after meeting with him, it still didnt help me
Not going to lie this was a really hard class. The 4 tests are very difficult. He is nice and gives extra credit. He definitely makes you work for your grade I ended up getting a B barely. The final counts twice so be sure to put a lot of effort into that. Its a difficult class but he will bump you if you do extra credit
Nice guy, keeps his lectures interesting and shows videos when he can. Graded off of 4 quizzes (online) and a final with an essay (in person). You need to either come to class or get good notes from someone. Provides extra credit opportunities. Don't bother getting the book because the chapters are very long and not helpful on the quizzes.
Lots of extra credit opportunities! Make sure you snag a presentation or two! He was nice enough and lectures were ok just boring at times. Make sure you go to class and take good notes or get them from someone. 4 quizzes in a lock down browser and an in class final
Attendance is mandatory since he doesnt post his slides online. Lectures are either the whole class or we leave 15 min early (sometimes sooner). He gives extra credit out w/ presentations or showing up and turning in something at the end. Tests are on lockdown but EASY if you just take notes and study. Not a bad guy & accessible. EC got me my A
Great lectures. Puts chapter outlines online that give a good basis for a study guide. He makes powerpoint but doesn't put them online so if you don't come to class you won't get any of the information. There's a textbook, but I almost never used it. Overall, if you go to the classes and take good notes (maybe record the lectures) you'll do fine
Loved this class! Material comes from lectures which are very interesting. Tests are webcam but aren't that difficult if you listen and take notes in class. He gives extra credit throughout the semester. I did so well on my tests that I exempted the final and made an A in the class. Textbook isn't necessary use outlines to study. Overall great guy!
Real nice guy. Gives a few writing assignments, but they are short and straightforward. Tests, including the midterm and final, are not that hard either. He does have fill in the blank on his tests so be wary of that if you want to take him, and he doesn't allow cellphones out either. That can be bypassed by sitting in the back though cause he old.
Professor Mannion is undoubtedly the worst professor i've had at Kennesaw State. He is so caught up in his own ideals that he lets that cloud how he presents things. His quizzes are meant to trick you so be prepared for that. He should not be teaching history subjectively.
Professor Mannion is hilarious and makes history a fun class. He gives easy extra credit points and gives you outlines for each test with each topic you need to study. Attendance is not mandatory but if you want extra credit then I suggest showing up to every class because he chooses randomly. Follow the note outlines and you will do well.
Dr. Mannion is a super sweet guy and does not want to fail any of his students. He basically suggests that it is nearly impossible for him to fail you. That being said, this is a college course so show up to class, and STUDY THE OUTLINES! His tests are literally the outline so take advantage of that and use them. I read text, but not mandatory.
Professor Mannion is fantastic! His lectures are clear and he provides chapter note outlines to fill out before exams/tests. He wants his students to pass and gives extra credit as well as curves the grades as needed. I hate taking history classes but he made my experience in this one fantastic. One of my favorite professors so far.
This class is good as long as you put the time in. You have to go to class and take good notes but he offers chapter outlines that go along with what will be on the test. There are only 3 tests, a midterm, and a final and he drops your lowest test grade of the 3. The tests aren't super easy, you do have to study. He is super caring.
This professor is a real gem hes adorable. He has personal connections to the Vietnam war so when that comes up, its really interesting to hear from his perspective. A guy who is clearly in it to help us and loves what he does. 5 tests, but one is dropped and he gives outlines for all notes used for tests.
If you dont show up to class you wont pass. Tests are worded horribly, there are always 2 correct answers on the test and you have to decide which is the better one. If you dont study, you will fail. Very sweet professor just not a very good one
You have to show up to EVERY class or you wont pass because he doesn't post his lectures or powerpoints online. you also have to listen to what he says because he simplifies his powerpoints and uses it as a guide for him to explain further. he provides chapter outline notes to help but only gives test w/ no homework for cushion so you have to study
Dr. Mannion is a good professor, but you MUST show up to every class and you MUST listen to him very carefully. He doesn't post any of his PowerPoints, but he does give you a chapter note outline, which helped me. The tests are straightforward and there's no homework. I recommend reading the textbook and making quizlets to help you study.
You will not pass if you just show up to the lectures. You have to take detailed notes and listen attentively. Studying is required to pass. Drops lowest test grade. Tests are lockdown browser. Really hard class but he is super knowledgeable. He explains events very well and I would enjoy the lectures. But you must study if you even want to pass.
Take anyone but him. He goes through PowerPoints and talks at the same time so you have to be listening, reading and writing all at once and he doesnt post the PowerPoints. If you dont go to every class you will fail and you cant procrastinate, you have to study far in advance if you want a good grade.
I don't think professor Manion is a poor professor, as he is very knowledgeable but this class was not easy at all. Tests are lockdown w/webcam and you're not given enough time to think more than 10 seconds per question. There are also no other grades other than the tests so if you do poorly on even one of them you're going to be in hot water.
this class is HARD. you have to work in work and a half to do solid. you cannot miss class or youll miss a lot. you have to be able to listen and write and quick pace. he drops your lowest test of three and then you have a midterm and final. USE THE NOTE OUTLINES AND DONT BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP!!!
Professor Mannion reads off a PowerPoint and only gives an outline to look at. The professor only gives in notes class, so if you miss a class you would have to ask others for the notes. A lot of information to remember and very boring and not engaging. the test he won't let you go back to review your answer, but he drops one of your lowest test.
If you show up to the lecture, you will pass. The notes are not posted online so the only way that you can get them is if you go to class. If you study the chapter note outlines and pay attention in class, you will be fine. BUT YOU HAVE TO STUDY. This is not an easy A class.
Make sure to go to class because it is very lecture heavy, he doesn't post any of the power points online so if you miss class, you have to get the notes from someone. He randomly takes attendance. The class is based off 3 tests, a midterm, and a final. He does drop the lowest test grade. This is not an easy A class.
He's an okay professor. Some of the reviews are a little misleading. don't take this class if you're a bad test taker. There are 5 tests. I repeat do NOT take this class if you are not a good test taker. No quizzes, extra assignment, or homework and very little extra credit. The notes aren't posted so you cant miss class
ATTEND HIS LECTURES and TAKE NOTES. He explains so good during his lectures that you don't even have to go back to the textbook. I, personally never used the textbook.
Mannion is a great professor who takes a boring subject and makes it interesting. He often adds in his own personal stories which are usually funny. He also does a great job of never picking one political side or another, even when questions are asked that may cause a lean to one side.
Professor Manion is by far the worst professor to take for HIST2112. There are 3 tests with the lowest getting dropped and a midterm and final. He bores you to death and goes too fast during lectures. I would highly recommend not taking him for HIST2112 and would advise taking literaly any other professor.
Professor Mannion is very passionate about what he teaches, and it makes his lecture interesting. The only grades are tests, but they are very similar to the PowerPoints. They do include short answer responses, but they are easy if you memorize the powerpoint. He's a very good professor if you are willing to put in the work.
Test are super hard. I'm someone who is a history wiz and it has been my strongest subject for forever but this class was hard. I studied studied and studied and nothing. I do not recommend taking this class
Great professor, 3 tests(drops lowest)(40%),mid(25%),and final(35%) are only grades. If you attend the lectures and take notes you will get an A. tells some great personal accounts of topics; has a textbook but I never once opened it. most tests have essay questions but he is not a harsh grader. Lets you know what topics to review before exams. 5/5
He assigns no hw whatsoever. Take notes on everything during class though because he doesn't post powerpoints on d2l and if you ask he'll tell you to get the notes from a friend. Everything on the pp will be on the tests. He's pretty chill though, hes an older teacher and you can tell he really enjoys history.
Took him because his reviews were so high, but he is not all that. Simply reads off the powerpoints, and does not post the powerpoints on d2l so it is not easy to catch up on missed material. 3 tests, a midterm, and final and lowest test is dropped. He says textbook is mandatory, I never bought it and we never used it.
No homework, just 3 tests, midterm, and final. He drops the lowest test and he literally gives you a sheet that explains what you should remember for the tests. Class was extremely easy. All you have to do is show up and just take notes on that exact sheet I mentioned earlier. He hates failing students and tries to get his students to succeed.
very passionate about what he teaches. make sure to show up to lectures because he tells you what material is going to be on the test. nice guy and pretty interesting lectures.
Overall, great. He's a decent lecturer and you can tell he really likes what he teaches. He posts chapter note outlines which you fill in as he goes over his ppt (that he doesnt post on d2l so if you miss a class ask someone for their notes) which are CRUCIAL for tests. If you know the outlines, you're good. No essays except on midterm and final.
Unhappy if you go to the bathroom during class. He is passionate about history but not an effective teacher. He reads from the PowerPoint (which he does not post on D2L), gives us tests, and that is about all. The only primary sources we look at are political cartoons. We never use the textbook. Don't take it unless you are a great test-taker.
Professor Mannion is very passionate about history and makes all his lectures very engaging. Class consists of 3 tests (20% each, drops the lowest one), a mid term (25%), and a final (35%). All his questions come from the Chapter Note Outlines he creates so if you study it before the test, it will be an easy A. requires lockdown browser + webcam
Dr. Mannion just reads off of PowerPoint (that will not be posted online) so attendance is mandatory in a sense. I never had to use the required textbook for the class. The tests are long and come from direct material from class
This class is an easy A as long as you take good notes. Only grades are tests but they are easy and most questions come directly from the chapter note outlines that he gives you to take notes during the lectures. He doesn't take attendance but does not post the powerpoints online so that's why attendance is mandatory.
Professor Mannion was a nice guy but his class was just meh. The only grades are the tests but he drops the lowest one. He reads off a slide show and gives you note outlines to fill out while he lectures. He doesn't post the slide shows though so you have to be in class. If you take good notes and study them you'll do fine.
I loved this class, Professor Mannion is older so it was interesting when he would share his personal experiences related to whatever historical event we were learning about in class. Grades are only based on tests, so just study hard on those tests and you'll thrive.
This class appears easy and the reviews are good but BE WARNED. He does not advocate for students and he does the absolute bare minimum a professor does. He reads off of slides that are never posted and if you have to miss class for some excused reason there isnt a way to get the lectures. Test questions are bizarre and multiple answers could be it
Did the job.
Professor Mannion's lectures were very interesting easy to understand. he has 3 exams, a midterm, and a final where your lowest exam grade will be dropped. exams are very easy if you show up to class for the lectures.
He was a great professor and a really down-to-earth guy. Not sure if he will continue teaching next semester but I appreciate how clear he was in the criteria and lectures.
