I'm not a fan of Chemistry, but I loved going to this class. He was so helpful, patient and down to earth. He's very available to get help, and he just explains things very clearly. Go to class! He gives major hints about the midterms and final almost every class and you'll waste your time studying useless things otherwise.

Best prof EVER. He's only been teaching for a year but he does it better than half of the other profs at UW! I used to get 50-60's on my midterms and then I decided to switch into his class, ended up doing really well on my exam and had a really good mark overall :) definitely best chem prof, this man deserves an award.

If you get a chance to stick with this prof, do so! One of the best teachers i've ever been taught by. Amazing prof! Very young as well so when you are talking to him it is much more comfortable, as if you are talking to a friend. He is extremely helpful so make sure you go find him in his office for help if you are stuck. Midterms and final exam is very fair, as long as you put in the effort to study. A professor that truly goes the extra mile for his students. When students wanting to attend his lecture filled the hall over capacity, he started recording all his lectures on video and posting them online. He treats all students with great respect and creates an environment safe for asking questions about the material. Very engaging prof!

As a math student who took chem out of interest I didn't expect to do well in the course. However Professor Marta is undeniably one of the best instructors I have had throughout my educational career, and it was difficult not to excel under his guidance. Aside from being an exceptional teacher, Professor Marta is also a wonderful person.

Great prof. Problem is if you are already good at chemistry the class gets REALLY boring and slow. He tends to simplify concepts that aren't that difficult and that wastes time. Don't get me wrong, this is awesome if you have trouble in chemistry or the content is hard. He still is a really great prof. He does online lectures to now (bonus!)

Best teacher I've ever had!

Being a Computer Science student, I took this class for giggles. While experiencing the giggles, I realized he is the best professor/educator I have EVER had in my life. He is simply amazing. I received a 93 in the class, but I want to take it again just because he is such a brilliant teacher.

Attendance kinda not mandatory only because the lec was so popular that ppl couldn't get a seat, thus they were recorded and made available online. FANTASTIC prof! I had a bad term but still chem was my only 90+ class. It was also the only class that I reviewed with joy as I went through the lec videos before final =D He makes class enjoyable!

He is the best professor in terms of clarity, help and consistency. What you do on tests/exams are what he directly expects you to do. He tests what he says and he walks the talk. He is not here to waste your time and although I didn't use his help, I can tell that this professor is passionate and good at his job.

Probably THE best prof I've had so far. I've had the pleasure of being in his class for both CHEM 120, 123, 266L, and 267L next term. No regrets! Marta provides the greatest amount of resources over other profs. 6hr x 3 study sessions, 1.5hr prof-instruction out-of-class on-his-time lecture. video reviews. weekly quizzes. mapleta assignments. video lectures. needless to say over 90 for me. honestly if other profs stop being so "hide your quiz answers, never record lecture"...

I normally don't write reviews but I think Marta definitely deserves the best. I wasn't in his section, but I still listened to all of his online lectures and the tricks and the tips he provided were extremely clear which made chemistry that much more understandable. Highly recommended.

Best prof ever. Seriously if you are taking chem make sure you are in his section or at least go to his lectures. Slacked off the whole term and only realized how stupid I was 2 weeks before the exam. Tried hard and still ended with a 90. All because of how well Marta taught me and how helpful his notes are. Posts his lectures online but you'll want to show up to class anyways because he's great! Very helpful with questions, replies to emails and requests immediately. Genuinely cares about students and wants all of us to succeed. Posts extra lectures for certain subjects as well, very down-to-earth, awesome guy! He makes it clear that he loves his job!

Although he posts all of his lectures online, it's so much better just to attend the lectures since he's so enthusiastic. This is suppose to be a little difficult compared to 120 but he explains so well that you will have minimal troubleconfusion and will feel totally optimistic when it comes to the midtermsexams.

This teacher not only reads off lecture notes, but adds his own thoughts, comments, and tips for everyone to better understand and follow along. This teacher also records his lectures, allowing people from other sections or those who were absent due to illness to review his lectures outside of class/lecture for more clarity and understanding.

I have never had him as a prof for either CHEM 120/123, but all I know is that I have passed the courses because of his lecture videos. From the videos you can tell that he makes the course easier and gives the student a different perspective of what it is about. Definitely the best prof!

Marta makes going to organic chemistry labs fun. Allows us to show up early and get set up beforehand (which gets you finished earlier), and is quick, animated, and to-the-point for the pre-lab talks. Very helpful outside of lab times. Easy to talk to. An all-around great lab instructor.

Probably the most amazing prof ever. I can't imagine anyone better than him. He's so nice, helpful, caring and such a great teacher. Made chemistry fun and an enjoyable class to go to. He also knows how to help relax students during stressful times. If you have a chance to take a class with him I definetly suggest you do!

I've had him for both first year chem and the second year lab. In honesty his voice and lectures carried me through first year chem, and continue to do so in second year. Recently he was a substitute teacher for Chem 209 spectroscopy, and he saved me on the assignment by carefully explaining each step of the question. Truly amazing professor.

Amazing prof! Had him for chem 120, 123 and chem 266l. He really knows his stuff and is great at explaining. For chem 266L, the lab environment is super chill and labs never take the full 3 hours plus no lab final.

His voice is nice, and posts lectures online

Marta was definitely the best first-year prof I had. His classes are unreal and he's great at explaining tough material. Go to his office hours if you don't understand something and he'll make sure you do. Great guy, wish him the best.

I only watched his online videos and got a 100%, even if you aren't in his section his videos are available. Do all the practice questions in the course notebook and don't worry too much about assignments (understand them and do them as they are worth 10%) but his tests do not exhibit the difficulty of the assignments. Best prof at UW.

Great professor! So helpful, does a really good job of making sure things are clear in lecture. He posts lecture videos, annotated notes, and practice quiz answers, lots of resources to help you do well.

He honestly seems like he loves teaching

Rick Marta is by far my favourite prof in my undergrad career. For some, chemistry is not an appealing subject but Rick Marta makes an effort to get you excited about learning through his passion for chemistry. This course is difficult if you don't keep up with lectures but Rick records all his lectures so you never miss a thing. Great guy.

Wasn't even in his section, but watching his lecture videos got me a 90. Seems to genuinely care about the success of his students. Amazing guy.
