Awful, just awful. there are no other words. please by all means take ANYONE elses class. 4 exams that you are graded on and the format of the tests are timed two minute stations per two quesitons. he has no sympathy for sickness and will not reschedule an exam. attendance mandatory.

Not at all accessible. Bases exam grades on a format that gives little to no time to complete, let alone do well. Does not listen to students when we tell him we are not prepared for exams. Take ANYONE else!

Richard Mccain's class is absolutely FOUL. I have never in my whole school career done so poorly in a class, especially an anatomy class. His exams are TERRIBLE. All fill in the blank with no word bank/hints. He does not explain one bit of the material, just reads off a power point and expects you to memorize it. TAKE LITERALLY ANYONE ELSE!

It is nearly impossible to do well in this class. Everything from the way he reads directly from the slides to the way his exams are structures. Literally take anyone else.

I have never done so bad in a class in my life. He teaches horribly and just reads off the slides. I have gone to him multiple times and asked for help and he pretty much told me to study harder. Do yourself a favor and get any other teacher besides him. You have barely any grades in the class so your exams are the only grades. Worst class ever.

I don't know what I can possibly say that has not been said yet but this is the first class I have ever struggled this hard with. He reads off the slides and gives you no tips to help you remember anything and when you ask for pointers he says study harder. This is one of the worst classes I have taken please take any other professor!!!!

McCain is terrible. I have never done so bad in a class. He made me want to drop out or change my major. Do not take him. He is so bad. The information taught in class does not appear on the exams. It seems impossible to get a good grade on any of his tests, even after studying for endless hours a day. He is not willing to help the students get their grades up and does not offer any extra credit. He doesn't seem to care that the entire class is failing. He is a terrible professor.

DO NOT TAKE HIM! half of my class dropped him halfway through the semester and we studied together every night, for hours. Grading is ridiculous, as he took 23 points off my exam for spelling where he could understand the terms just fine. He is unpleasant to work with in general. 0/10 experience, i repeat do not take him!!!

Only reads off of powerpoint, he doesnt go into details about what hes teaching, he takes off points if you misspelled a word, and he doesnt do word banks on his exams. He also expect you to learn everything he teaches in a short amount of time. Youre only graded on attendance and exams, he dont provide extra credit and he dont do quizzes.

Please do not take Professor McCain for any class. He does not know how to teach and his exams do not match his lectures at all. I study so much for this class and work double the amount and everyone is failing. More than half our class dropped. The course itself is not terrible, it is the Professor. Many of my other friends succeed with others.

Of the lab classes I have taken, this one has been the hardest. I am the opposite of a procrastinator and study over a week in advance and still did not meet my expectations on the test. Not to mention, he only counts exams and attendance toward our overall grade, so if you do not do well on one lab, it will be very difficult to get it back up

if you have the option, do not take mccain. The class only consists of 4 exams and attendance as a grade. He is an extremely tough grader and does not give feedback. He reads straight off his powerpoint, but does not clarify what exactly to be on the exam. He also is not understandable if you need to miss class even due to an illness.

He is honestly the worst professor ever. I had him for both lecture and lab and it was absolute torture. I had to drop his lecture class because I was failing. He only reads off slides and even when questions are asked he will just re read the slide. Even when you asl for help he just says "study harder". Whatever you do don't take him!!!!!!

i had him for lab AND lecture! he barely teaches and just reads dully off slides, he gives no assignments besides exams and attendance, plus all his exams were unnecessarily harder than other professors in the same course and he gives you no resources to study with. whenever people challenged him on this in class he got annoyed

DO NOT take this professor! He does not provide you with the right tools. He reads off slides that can be read at home. When you ask for help or clarification he just repeats the question or finds his way around it. His exams are 50 fill in the blank questions and if you are more than a letter off then you will get the question wrong.

I would NOT recommend this for anyone. All you are graded on is 4 exams that you are graded on spelling as well, so if you are not a good test taker this class is not for you. His exams are extremely difficult and cover a lot of information. There is also no extra credit given. There were multiple students to have breakdowns during his exams.

Dr. McCain has no desire to see his students succeed. He doesn't provide answers when students ask clarifying questions, he just restates what is on the slides. He also seems to find it funny when students get questions wrong on tests and ask for an explanation. I would avoid taking his class if at all possible.

Worst professor I've ever had. Genuinely wonder how he is still employed. His whole class fails his exams and he does not care at ALL. The classes are miserable and he teaches his material in the worst way. I recommend ANY ANOTHER professor. I ended with an A in 243 Lab last semester, and put in more work now and am still failing.

DONT take. I had to drop his class and retake 243 because I was failing. Now that I'm retaking with a different professor, I have a 92 in the class. He doesn't offer quizzes or study guides even though the other professors do, and barely even knows the material himself. He does not care how his students do on exams or what their feedback is.

Tries his best to be funny but I would rather him actually try and use a different method of teaching than just reading off the slides. Reads right off the slides and grades on 4 tests and 4 homeworks. The final is optional but can replace one of your tests. If you are a more hands on and visual learner this isnt the professor for you.

He seemed very smart in his field but did not teach the material well. It is all PowerPoint so you have to spend lots of time preparing for the exams, spelling counts so if you spell a word wrong you get it wrong. Attendance is also mandatory, so you have to show up. However, you do not learn anything by showing up.

For lecture, I could not be more excited that this class is over. There is way too much material chunked into each unit and all he does is read off the slides, so if you don't get it you're screwed. I could not tell you the amount of times respondus was watching me have a breakdown during exams.

Unlike other professors, you're only graded on 4 exams and 4 homework grades that do nothing for your grade. Offers a cumulative exam at the end, but it was impossible to study for as I had 300+ terms for exam 4 and the cumulative a day later. Would always say the exam went well when more than half of the class failed.

Literally avoid at all costs. It will tank your GPA. -every class is a lecture -he goes so fast, SO MANY POWERPOINTS ON EACH TEST (all multiple choice but SO HARD) -each test is worth so much of your grade -no extra credit -no quizzes to help your grade either -the homework does not really help your grade at all.

I would suggest you not take this class, and I will give reasons. With as many slides that he has in his power points he is not very good at explaining them and his lab exams are severally difficult. I think he might be a good person out of the classroom, but he is not a good professor, and I would never recommend someone take his class.

Take any other teacher. He is very nice and is very accessible but it doesn't even matter. Unless you can memorize every slide show you will not do great on the exams. Oh! Don't memorize too much though because if you use what you memorized on the homework and it is too much like the slide show you will get in trouble for cheating.

DO NOT TAKE HIM! He will ruin your GPA. He is the most inconsiderate person I've ever met and I swear he wants his students to fail. His exams are full of trick questions and everyone does poorly on them. I attended every lecture and studied often and I still could not get higher than an 80 on any of the exams (this was above the class average).

He is one of the worst professors. He only grades on the tests (80% of grade); they are extremely hard, and you will need to know everything and more on the slides. Homework and attendance can boost your grade but don't rely on it. I would not recommend taking him if you want to succeed in the class. He does not give any extra point opportunities.

I am in BIO243 currently and have tried many studying habits but with this professor its hard to comprehend all the information he gives during lecture. We go through 50+ slides every lecture and he speeds through them with little explanation or time to write notes. He does not give extra credit opportunities and lots of people struggle.

Please do not take this professor if you can help it. For lab he's completely fine as long as you put in ALL of the work. Still recommend others for lab because they put in more assignments and provide extra credit. Back to lecture, it is HORRIBLE. Speeds through with no explanation. He's the reason I can't apply to upper division this semester.

Moves way too fast with very little explanation of topics, to be fair gives us a little to ask questions but he moves entirely too fast to even have your thoughts together by the time he asks.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Attendance is required even though the lecture is not beneficial at all. He reports you for cheating & plagiarism on homework if your words match even SLIGHTLY similar to his powerpoint. If you are a nursing major DO NOT take him. His class will tank your gpa and make it extremely hard for you to get into upper division.

Terrible professor. Reads off of 50 slide slideshows and thats it. That is his entire way of teaching. Grades homework super particularly. Does not help very well if you ask for it, it seems like he's frustrated that you don't know the material. You get 4 homework grades and 4 tests. Overall people do much worse with him than other anatomy courses.

Do not take him if you are a nursing student! His class is way more difficult than other professors for the same course. He provides little resources for studying other than the powerpoints he reads off of. He does not believe in curving grades or extra credit. What you get for your grades is just what you have to settle with.

He is the worst professor and all he does is read straight from the slides. DO NOT copy any definition from the power point on homework or he will say you plagiarized. Exams are extremely difficult and no matter how much you study, you are still not going to know the answers because of how he words them. I would never recommend him to anyone.

He is quite possibly the WORST professor to ever exist. His exams are nearly impossible and it is evident that he could not care less about his students and wants them to fail. He expects them to memorize every word on his 40 slide powerpoints but then accuses them of cheating when they use the words he had evidently claimed as his own. BAD MAN.

Prof. McCain is a good man and funny, but this was a horrible class. He reads off the slides with little to no explanations. Be sure to reread homework answers 10x so you don't get caught for plagiarism. Does reviews on day of exam, but honestly aren't helpful. I asked for study tips and he copy and pasted what he had on syllabus.

He gives homework that is worth 10% of your grade, he grades it incredibly strictly. Attendance is required but he just reads off the slides. Directly reads off every slide. The lecture was beyond boring. Awful grader, and always go above and beyond to get any credit.

This class was harder then any of my other classes. This class is only one credit hour but yet I was spending hours on it. He is the only teacher to go off PowerPoint slides for lab and not use the websites that the department uses. Our power points are more in depth compared to other professors. Stickers placement is not good, very confusing.

Exams are worth 80% of your grade, and are very difficult. He reads off the powerpoints for “lectures” and seems to take pride in his class being the most unrewarding and frustrating course offered. Avoid his class at all costs if you don't want to suffer and know only sorrow.

The only good thing I can say about this man is he's a fast grader but that's probably because he has nothing else to do besides play dungeons and dragons. Would NOT recommend taking him unless you want the lore or wanna fail.

The tests are very hard, especially when you are having to learn all of the information on your own. I am usually a straight A student, but I ended with C's in his lecture and lab classes.

McCain is awful. He reads from long slideshows with so much information on each slide. You are expected to memorize up to 400 slides worth of information (each slide is crammed with material) for 4 unit tests that are basically your entire grade. DO NOT TAKE HIM.

This class is full of lecture slides per unit and when the test comes there is no guidance of any material that will be on the test. You have to choose what you feel is most important of over 400 slides per unit. Overall grade is solely based on test grades. The amount of slides is overwhelming leading me to do bad on his test. DO NOT TAKE HIM.

Lectures are monotoned and reads directly off the slides.When time for exams there is no key objects so you end up having to memorizes all the information crammed onto 7+ slides with 30 slides.Exams are filled with trick questions and after he goes over the results which average is a C with a huge standard deviation and says the grades are "fair".

Do not take him, literally just reads off the slides and expects you to memorize every little specific thing. Tough grader on homework which is literally nothing of your grade. Exams are extremely difficult and are majority of your grade ranging from 80 questions work almost 3 points each. Take someone who actually teaches you and cares about you.

Where shall I even begin. This man requires you to memorize 10 powerpoint slides each with 30+ slides. If you want extra credit, don't get your hopes up, you're not getting none. Get ready to come to class, and feel like you are wasting your money. Its apart of your grade! I think I am going to need therapy now. Gives me no motivation to study after a listening to a WALL-E sound alike for an hour and a half. This professor does not care about mental health and requires you to know a excessive amount of information!

Dr.McCain gave me a hard first semester. I felt like I was always studying and never benefited from it. The homework's saved me in this class. Try NOT to take him. I felt I had to work so much harder than other 243 classes because of how difficult and hard he was. He wasn't helpful and the tests were impossible and so much longer than other classes

He made my semester feel extremely long. I felt like britney after her 12 hour shift trying to study for his class. The amount of information he requires his students to memorize was honestly just unkind. you will have to know every slide (which could be up to 400) for each exam to be safe! He will pick out the tinest details #AWFUL

He is actually going to be the death of you, genuinely get out of that class if you want to enjoy your life because he makes it awful, you study hours on end and can not get higher than a c, he will accuse you of plagiarism for homework when there's only so many ways to answer anatomy questions. Do everything in your power to not take him.

Do not take his class unless you have to! His class single handedly prevented me from getting into upper division. While I think he's pretty intelligent, he goes extremely fast expecting everyone to already know the material. HE WILL TANK YOUR GPA! his grading policy has zero room for error and he's not very flexible.

Please take any other anatomy teacher than him. Had McCain for anatomy 1 but I have another teacher for anatomy 2 and he is 10x easier than McCain. McCain had 100-200 slides per exam and read off each slide and was way too much information to learn. Also tries to get you for plagiarism for copying 4 words in a row from slides unless you admit to it

He is not a awful person, but he is an awful teacher, and that matters when this class is analyzed for getting into upperdivison for nursing. Anatomy is supposed to be hard, yes, it but THIS CLASS should not be the reason you want to change your major. I rethought daily. At the end of the day your grade wont define how good of a nurse you are

Do. Not. Take. This. Professor. I loved nursing, until I took his class. Im now a Retail major and have lost my love for this nursing program. I put so so so many hours into this class and got NOTHING in return.

His lectures are far too content heavy and has no clinical application like all other Biology professors do. You put so much for and effort in and still the out of the entire class hardly 5 people get an A on exams, and he doesn't see an issue with that. He has office hours but there is no SI sessions.

Took him last semester and had the same issue, do not know why he is still hired here, not worth your time to take this class it literally is 400 slides of PowerPoints in one exam and goes through 40 each class. Save yourself from this.

TERRIBLE. Seriously hope he gets fired to save the sanity of any more students who have to deal with this professor. I spent my life in the library. Only good thing that came from this class is that I learned how to teach myself.

He thought a day with 25 slides was generous, considering you get 30-45 slides of notes per class three days a week. You get no key concepts because you need to know every single slide. There is a question bank that has questions from each slide, so you need to know every detail to be safe. I do not have him this semester, praise god! AVOID!!!!

Gives you 9-12, 40 slide power points and expects you to memorize the entire thing. Provides literally no help to his students, reads off the power point slides yet makes attendance mandatory, and only has 2 types of grades (HW and exams). DO NOT TAKE HIM! This Professor is atrocious. I am honestly saddened that I got stuck with him. He made my freshman spring semester a complete living torture house. I didn't smile once during the semester. I took him for BIO 244 Lecture and Lab and worst mistake I could make. He teaches entirely to fast and expects you to remember all 50 slides. DO NOT TAKE HIM.

The actual worst. He made my first semester so horrible and stressful I actually lost hair. He was very hard to listen to and very sarcastic (& slightly creepy) He told our class that some of us plagerized him on an assignment and he'd report if we didn't fess up, he had the entire class saying they cheated when they didn't just bc we were scared.

This professor just doesn't explain anything. The class is pretty much teach yourself and you must MEMORIZE each and every single small detail on each slide for the exams and even if you do that hell still find a way to pull something out of nowhere. DO NOT TAKE if you want to save your GPA and grades. FIRE HIM

No extra credit, tests are not hard if you have the time to study every single powerpoint slide, but because there are so many slides thats what makes this class and the tests so hard. Never had to study so hard for a class. Draining to say the least. Not sure how he is still teaching...prevents so many people from upper division.

He is horrible. Don't take him if you don't have to, the exams are incredibly difficult and there's no coming back from it. Literally worried I won't get into upper division because of him.

Don't take him. Not sure why USC hasn't fired him considering the constant complaints about him. He seems to take joy in making students miserable and preventing nursing students from upper division. Also enjoys reporting half the class for "plagiarism" on homework for being too similar to his powerpoints. Take literally ANYONE else.

He's smart, but he thinks we're as smart as him. Too much lectures to know for 50-60 questions. 30+ slides to know in only under an hour. I have him for lab, it's just an extra class for him to teach, not an actual 'lab'. I've never been so uncertain about my love for biology until now. I'm switching majors because of him. Never take him.

Hes a very bad professor. The class average for the first lab exam was a 54%. That should tell you something. He gives no extra credit and his lectures are insanely long and boring. I dropped after the first exam.

So hard to pay attention to lectures especially with his voice and it goes on for so long.

Do NOT, under ANY circumstances, take McCain if you're a nursing major. I don't know why USC gives him nursing sections. He is actively lowering the quality of education of future nurses. Completely unfair for the freshmen who are assigned to him (me). Your class average will be in the 70s, while your other peers will be making 100+ on their exams.

Your grade is 350 questions. Written-response, no word bank, spelling matters. No study guides. No extra credit. No corrections. No practice. Lab is just a 2-hour "lecture" where he reads the structures to you off the board. If you are nursing, you will not pass with an A unless you devote HOURS to repetitive studying and rewriting of structures.

I wish I could give him a zero. If you value your free time do not take him. Super boring (mandatory) lectures, reads off the slides, but you have to reteach yourself everything. 100+ slides per exam and ALL material is fair game for test questions. Nursing students pls switch out of his class if possible. USC needs to get rid of this man.

I'm here to give some people some hope about this class. ITS HARD. But its very possible to do well if you work hard. I studied every. single. day. and it paid off. If you have to take him like I did, its not the end of the world I promise. Remember, IT IS UP TO YOU to memorize the content, you can't just hear it once and magically understand it.

Terrible. Don't do it
