He is funny. He is very hilarious guy and tells really great jokes. He seems like a great guy. Lopez,Evin
Best history teacher I ever had. It's not an easy class but if you study you'll do good. He makes History very fun and interesting. He doesn't do roll call but a lot of questions in the test comes from his lectures that are not in the book so YOU SHOULD ATTEND CLASS!!
I read these high ratings, took his class, but HE IS HORRIBLE!! I am an honors student and struggled to pass the class! Brags about students failing, says on the first day of class the rule #4 is "I DON'T CARE" and he means it! Arrogant and tests are almost impossible. Tells random, useless stories about himself in class then puts that on his test!
I had him for spring semester 09! He was awesome. One of the best professor at Pierce hands down! He is HILARIUS. If he doesn't make you laugh you got serious issues. He is a sweet man. His test are difficult and expects you to study. But this is college people grow up! I got a B and I happy. :)
He's a wonderful teacher.Totally knows what he's talking about. He's knowledgeable & HILARIOUS.He works hard & expects the same from u.If you think u can just sit in class & txt ur friends u better go back to high school. He's strict but fair and he doesn't jst talk about history,he takes u to that era by the way he explains things.God bless u sir:-)
He is great!!!!! fun and knowgeble, professor McMillan created in me the necessity to learn more and more History. I learned that it is important for the everyday life. I took his class Hist. 11 during the summer and it was hard but he is very helpful and fair so if you read and take notes you will be fine! I highly recomend him!!!
this is the best Prof dude at lapc! I had this dude back in 2001! BIG DODGERS FAN! so if are from SF do not take! but if you love dodgers blue he will love you! back in 2001. you most study for the test
If you can't pass his class then you need to check your pulse!! His class is so much fun, interesting, and easy!! All you have to do is show up to class, laugh at his jokes (there really funny) and READ THE BOOK!! it's seriously easy!! If anyone complains about this teacher it's because they were probably to Lazy to put forth any effort! TAKE HI
This professor is great! I liked his History 11 class so much, I am taking his History 12 class. Don't get me wrong, it's A LOT of reading! His lectures make you want to take notes due to his weaving of life stories into those of History. Take him and you won't regret it!
I took him for History 12 and he is super easy! If you study a little before the test, you are guaranteed to get at least a B on the exam and then if you just do the homework, you will get an A in the class. I got an A in his class with just a little studying. Not the easiest A but still he makes it pretty easy to get an A. He is Passionate! Take!
He is the best Professor and super easy. All you have to do is do the work which are the tests. The tests are fairly easy if you study. He really has a passion for the subject! Trust Me! You won't regret taking his class.
Mr McMillan is and awsome techer. He is not hard as long as you listen to his lecturs and read the book. He coovers everythink from the book and also adds his own experence. he makes learning Fun and interesting as well.
He keeps his class simple and if you want to succeed in history 12, which is a hard subject take him. You have to read, but not too bad. If you take down notes for sure you will pass with at least (at least) a B. I am getting a B and I have not even purchased hte books and barely study. Hopefully, I can get an A because he is very helpful. Good Man
I loved his class a lot, had a great time, and got an A. I did not like his helpfulness because it seemed that he did not want to help but he was really easy and organized. Really clear and loved teaching the material so you really did not need any extra help. Read the lecture notes because that will get you the grade desire. Take good notes.Easy A
I had history Professors before him and I must say that he is amazing at what he does. He will really help you out if you ask him too. Also, he does not assign that much work. I got an "A" so it is doable if you put in your part. Thanks!!!
Professor McMillan is awesome!!! No questions asked. Just be lucky enough to get a seat in his class. =]
Great professor. Hilarious and knows his stuff. You can ask him anything and he'll have an answer! This class is easy if you read and take notes. 5 multiple choice tests determine your grade. you drop 1 test out of 4. cant drop the final. Anyway! great teacher! OH! "You got the facts straight, but you came to the wrong conclusion!" Ask about that.
He is amazing. His stories are hilarious and they are about the topic he is speaking on. He makes learning fun and interesting. If you don't come to class he doesn't care but your getting a D on the test. His tests are based on lectures and partially on the book.
Funny, tells a lot of jokes. pretty good class, you need to read the book and come to class for notes cuz majority of the tests come from notes. If you do this, you can get any grade you want.Really fun class and tells lots of funny personal stories that relate to the material.
This guy is a gangsta! Definitely, the most EASIEST A I HAVE GOTTEN AT PIERCE! I took History with Walsh and got a C and took it with this man and got an A with relative ease. Just show up to class (TAKE DETAILED NOTES). I studied the notes 1-2 hours before the exam at Freudian and ended up with an A. EASY A FOR SURE! Book is for clarity!GREATCLASS
Not for history majors.A helluva guy. A little too much of his story, not enough of the other stuff.
I took this class spring semester 2010 and must say i always looked forward to this class. He does use his own personal stories but i found them informative and entertaining. The story he used for Salutary Neglect was amazing, the entire class applauded him. You read about 3 ch. for each test and I felt they were fair exams. Got a B in the class.
Just took the final yesterday HIST 11. Got a B in the class. Right before he handed us the final the entire class applauded him. 4 exams, plus the final. He drops your lowest test score. Do the reading, go to lectures, take notes and you'll get a B. Do the reading twice and bring a tape recorder for an A. Take this class, you won't regret it.
Fantastic teacher! I've never absorbed so much from a history class. All multiple choice tests of 50 questions. You need to read and attend lectures to pass but, they are enjoyable, to say the least. Do yourself a favor and take a class with him. You'll need to work to get an A but, you'll retain the knowledge. Thank you professor!
I loved his class! Here's the key to a good grade and a fun, rewarding time: Listen to EVERYTHING he says (like his fave town in the south or his wife's name), take great notes (even on really obscure info), go to the library and copy the study guide for each exam, & really just get to know the guy. He's so hilarious and caring. Take him!!
DO NOT PURCHASE THE BOOK ONLINE! If you do and take him for a short term course then you are so screwed! Literally uses the book as guidance for everything he says and if you do not have the book on the second day of class you will most likely end up failing. LISTEN TO HIS LECTURES TO THE MAX. He is a great guy and you must retain all info he says!
Very nice Professor! HIS COURSE IS SO PACKED, ALWAYS! I took him for History 011 Summer 2009 and am still trying to add his History 012 course and it is always full! Best History Professor at Pierce College and when I took him he dropped the lowest exam score and was always helpful and even let us out early. He is such a warm hearted man.Very Nice
Professor McMillian is the best History teacher I have ever had,and hands down best teacher at Pierce College. He involves personal accounts in his lectures, as well information off the book. His class is easy if you take notes, listen to lectures, and read the study guide from the library, some of the questions are on the exams. Overall great guy.
Awesome Prof! He is very passionate about what he teaches. He gives 4 test not including the final and drops the lowest grade out of the 4 test. He is very fun. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
He inspired me to be more aware of history in general. For someone that's hated the subject, that's a big deal.
Simply the BEST...
McMillan is a great great teacher. He may tell you he doesn't care, and play the hard ass role sometimes, but he's really a nice guy and if you need help and actually try to do well he can be extremely helpful. Plus he's pretty damn hilarious too. I highly recommend taking a class with him.
A BIG guy with a BIG heart. LOL, and that is what you will do when you take his class.
Take this professor for History 11, 12, 13 class. As someone said, this guy is funny, and simply the best. Enough said.
I am currently enrolled in his class and have got A's on the last two exams. Just make sure to read the book, listen to his lectures and jokes, write on note cards, and memorize them. McMilan is not only an awesome professor, but a comedian as well. I highly recommend him to people who want to learn, and laugh. Best professor I've had yet. K.P
TAKE HIM!!! His lectures are like stories and each class leaves you riveted the entire time & ends with a cliffhanger. Its the only class I LOVE attending. His tests are multiple choice and mostly based on lectures. (Read book and pay attention to his jokes, he uses them in his tests to make sure ur paying attention to his lectures!)
HIS CLASS IS AWESOME, VERY INFORMATIVE, AND HILARIOUS. PAY ATTENTION TO THE LECTURES AND TAKE GOOD NOTES, THE EXAMS ARE BASED ON LECTURES, SO IF YOU MISS CLASS, ITS CRUCIAL. STUDY, STUDY FOR THE EXAMS, SINCE THE EXAMS ARE GOING TO DETERMINE YOUR GRADE. OH, ALSO PAY ATTENTION TO HIS JOKES AND STORIES(THEY WILL BE ON THE EXAMS).TAKE HIS CLASS!! :)
At the beginning of the semester i thought he was kind of callous and didn't like him. Over the semester I came to respect him and enjoy the class. Attendance isn't mandatory but the tests have a lot of material right out of the lectures so if you want a good grade just go to class, do the reading, and use the study guide on reserve @ the library.
INCREDIBLE Professor! He will make you love History, even if you hate it. Must go to class and read the book to do well in the class. Lectures are interesting and I loved going to his class. Not an "easy A," but this is college. Go to class, read the book, study and enjoy. One of the best Professors at Pierce!
BEST PROFESSOR at pierce!!!!his class is like a movie. I used to hate history and now I love it.
This is a true college class, it's up to you to attend although it is crucial you do for the tests, he is incredibly smart and a great lecturer I loved this class you just have to read a lot. You determine your grade!
Excessive yelling if you do something, just to be the "tough" professor. Rude and isn't funny. If he says "butt" the class would crack up.. A lot of reading and notes to even stand a chance. Bragged that his tests are so hard that he wouldn't be able to pass it, class average on every test was about 40%. Maybe that reflects on him as a teacher.
Fall 2010 was my second semester with him, and hands down the best history professor at Pierce. You have to attend class because most of the exam questions come from the lecture, also use the study guide at the library its a big help. He gives you 4 exams and a final, drops the lowest exam score, and makes history fun to learn, definetly take him.
This professor is very funny and makes class time interesting and fun. However, It's hard to get an A, recieved a B. READ the book, DON'T miss class (not even one!), and take as many NOTES as possible. Good luck!
He's very funny but if you don't like crude humor you won't like his style. His test are on both the lecture and book, so you'll want to read it, you should also pay attention to his stories because they are connected to the lesson, plus they're entertaining.
McMillan is extremely passionate about what he teaches. He can be crude, so if you don't like that kind of humor either don't take this class or don't talk back to him if you do take it because he will answer back to your comment. No essays. Interesting class. Multiple choice exams. If you want an A use his study guide and read the book.
Great teacher. He's an entertainer - his class is his act and we're the audience. It's amazing and I love his classes and now I love history.
LOVE LOVE LOVE his History 11 class. This was the first class I took after a long break from school and he made it super fun. His lectures are hilarious! I recommend going to class because ANYTHING said in his lecture can and will be on the test, not just what is in the book. Would take more of his courses if I needed them!
He is a GREAT teacher. Loves what teaches, Liston to his stories they are on his test.. Love his class, and I love History now.. Take him
He is an amazing teacher. I wish he would teach all of my classes because he is very straight forward and conveys the information in a very interesting fun way. He is also funny and entertaining. I would take all of his classes if I wasn't transferring in the fall. I am not a history major but I definitely found an appreciate for history.
Great Teacher. If you take good notes, attend class, and read the book, you will do well in his class. He has test questions that are not covered in the book. He does not require you to attend lectures, but you should if you want a decent grade.
Wow he has almost 250 reviews from various students. Anyways, he was funny guy and makes history more interesting. This is most fun class ever taken in pierce so far. To get a good grades, take good notes, review study guide from library, read the text carefully, listen to his jokes cause his jokes can be on the exam. By the way, I enjoyed his lect
I had History 11 and 12 with prof McMillan and hes funny as hell. He makes the subject very fun but don't be fooled, you have to read and study. And that's coming from someone that never reads or studies. A is definitely possible but you have to put in the effort.
DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XO MCMILLAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE BEST TEACHER EVERRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how can he not have a 5.0!?!?!?1? SHHHHAAAMMMMEE ONNNN YOUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By far he is the most entertaining&informative professor. I came in disliking history & accidently thinking I needed History5(his Latin Am. course)&after that class I took 3 more of his classes. So here's advice: 1.READ the assigned material 2.Be in class when you have to 3.Laugh at his jokes(not that it counts but it just means you're listening).
Simply the best, if you enjoy someone who loves what they teach, add this mans class. He is truly one of my favorite professors at pierce. Just remember that texting on your phone during his lecture is RUDE, and he will acknowledge that.
Passionate about the subject; an entertaining and knowledgeable lecturer. You must pay attention and take notes on everything (the jokes & stories are usually relevant, but only if you're smart enough to get it). Hypersensitive about anything he perceives as disrespect. I got an A but it wasn't easy.
SIMPLY THE BEST History teacher on the planet. He makes students excited to go to class, that's how much fun he makes his lectures. I received a C without even trying, but i wouldn't recommend it because I BARELY read the book haha. GET the study guide, his tests are very straight forward, at least 10 or more questions straight from the study guide
Do NOT miss a class. This will hurt your grade dramatically. Whenever I didn't understand part of the notes, I would go to office hours for clarification, he was very helpful. Hard to get an A, but he makes class interesting. Deff read the book and pay attention to his ties, he'll deff test you on that, haha.
Best history proffesor ever just go to class and read the book
Awesome teacher. Dont believe what people tell you or even what he says the first day in class. Just read the pgs. he tells you to, take notes and enjoy the class. I can honestly say he is one of the best teachers ive had. Just know he acts sarcastic at times, but just have fun cause i did. And if he gives you extra credit to do just do it.
I loved this class! There were some really interesting lectures and I found myself actually enjoying history. Although attendance isn't mandatory, don't miss class because McMillan will form test questions out of literally anything that he says during a lecture. Take lots of notes and read the book!
I have been on and off school for 4 years. McMillan made me realize why I love school in the first place. BEST teacher I've ever had, he keeps class interesting! He is extremely witty and sarcastic but in a hilarious way that will keep you coming back semester after semester. Pay attention, DO the readings, Tested on ANYTHING he says..literally. A+
His lectures are interesting and enlightening. Know what to study, pay attention because he makes some questions on exams from lectures. B in this class prevented me from a 4.0, but I couldn't be any happier with the knowledge I took from his class.
He's an amazing professor. His instruction is extremely clear but attendance is a MUST; the tests are 90% based on lecture. He's also funny but if you're just there to screw around- he has no patience for you wasting his time and the other students time and money. Also, IF he offers extra credit- it's a MUST!
He seems hard at first but if you try and read the book you will get at least a c. I got a B i only needed 3 more points to get the A. No HW, no quizes, and no essays. Great class. 5 test lowest is dropped.
He is such an amazing teacher! SO much fun.He is very insightful and his lectures are interesting. Test can be a tad tricky ,mostly because he asks some almost unreasonable question i.e. a question about a dogs name . STUDY GUIDES ARE A MUST! and being in class really helps!
You will enjoy any of his classes. Read the book and attend every class. It's obvious he loves teaching and knows his stuff. NO HOMEWORK is nice, but you will have to read. Four tests AND final, lowest TEST is dropped. You will find yourself signing up for another class with him when you're done.
He's a great lecturer. There were 5 tests total with the lowest score being dropped. Tests were somewhat difficult. (Tests were 50 multi-choice Q's using a scantron and we only had 40 minutes to complete it). BOOK IS NEEDED. (Tests were about 60% lecture notes and 40% from the book) I got a B. Class grade average was about 71%
Excellent teacher. Passionate and knowledgeable about his subject. Puts history into context. Very valuable. Primarily lecture based but you MUST at least skim the textbook too if you want to pass the tests. DO NOT MISS CLASS LECTURES. No assignments other than the tests and he drops the lowest score. Overall best history professor. Will take again
Probably the best professor I've ever had! I actually looked forward to coming to his class everyday. He makes the subject interesting and makes you want to learn. He is not an easy professor, but if you come to class, read the book and study for the tests you'll get a good grade! Totally recommend him, he's pretty awesome!
THE BEST HISTORY PROFESSOR EVER! Read the book, record his lectures, study from the study guide(About 10 qs for each exam comes from this). I am going to take him even after graduating if I can JUST FOR FUN because he is that awesome! He makes you love history or if you already love it he makes you want to love it even more if that is possible.
The best professor I've ever had!!! Do not leave Pierce without taking his class! Imagine your favorite movie, now multiply that by 10, that's this class, every class!
I love him great teacher fun class :)
GREAT Professor, Cares about the class even though he says he doesn't! Best lecturer I've ever seen.....take detailed notes and make sure to ask him about grandpa andy stories
Well, you'l hear lot if different things about this professor. His class is super fun. Exams are pretty straight forward. Just read every single word in the text book, you'll be just fine. If you love reading and history, its a easy A for u. If hates reading, don't take his class. I just studied 4 straight hours before the test and got A's so far
Great professor! Lectures are mandatory, gives 5 exams but drops your lowest one, final is not culmilative, does not seem to mind if you are somewhat late to class.
A class you won't dread going to! Easy to pay attention. He is VERY clear on the first day how to get the grade. Four exams (drop lowest), no HW, and Final (not cumulative). Be an adult, do the reading and show up. I got an A.
Great teacher! scary at times!
This was my favorite class this past semester. Prof. McMillan presents his material in a very enthusiastic and entertaining manner which makes learning enjoyable. Getting an A is easy if you show up to class & take notes, and do all of the reading. I would definitely recommend prof. McMillan to anyone.
I took both History 5 and History 11 with McMillan; his lectures put the "story" in history! Lofty historical figures become relatable human beings, drab dates and facts come to life in riveting retellings. Do the reading, show up to class and take notes, one of the most enjoyable classes you'll ever take!
Great Teacher
Amazing lectures!!! He makes history story telling fun like it should it. If these ratings had a ten he would surpass them. Greatest teacher ever.
BEST professor i have ever had. hands down. I HATE learning American history, but he actually made it interesting and bearable. He has awesome stories and you will learn so much as long as you just attend EVERY class. He offers extra credit Q's based on in class lectures!! If you need to fulfill your history requirement, he's the guy to take!!!
I will admit I hate history I fall asleep just hearing the word history. but this teacher is ab awesome storie teller I love his lectures I have never missed a class that is how good his lectures are ( better than my novelas ) the reading part I don't really like but his lectures are great.
This teacher is really fun. I love how he lectures to the class because it's really enjoyable to hear. Overall, the class is hard. You have to read so many pages out of your textbook and review notes for the tests. What I hate about him is, he doesn't write notes down! All he does is talk which I find hard. He has great personality as well. :)
Excellent teacher. Lectures are entertaining and engaging. There is a lot of reading involved, but if you were to check out his study guide in the library, you'll do great on the tests. Make sure you read, take notes, and record his lectures. I would instantly recommend him to anyone taking History. Class consists of only tests and lectures.
If you go to Pierce and don't take McMillan, you're missing out. He should get an award for what he does. Hands down the greatest professor and story teller I've ever had the privilege of hearing. So long, see ya later, and Go Dodgers.
He is the COOLEST prof. ever! :D RECOMMEND study guide in the library. Very clear & hilarious, makes class interesting. He's intimidating at first but he's just laid back. I got a 'B' & I didn't even read, just went by lectures & study guide.
Absolutely loved this class- he's very passionate about what he teaches but also teaches in a way that makes you want to learn. Very funny, a storyteller, and very nice and doesn't BS around. He also always wants us to learn in more diverse ways! So long, see ya later, and Go Dodgers.
Great Professor! Lectures are super interesting! I never thought I would love my history class but I did with him. If you read the book and take good notes, its possible to ace the class. He can seem intimidating at first, but really he's a great teacher! The study guide in the library is super helpful!
Great professor! His lectures are never boring and the tests are easy if you take good notes.
One of the Best History teacher ever !!! makes the class fun and interesting.
I can honestly say that Professor Richard McMillan is a life changer! His words "Be political, but not personal" will forever stay with me. I am grateful to have had such an amazing history teacher who can really reveal both sides of every story. I recommend him to everyone - his lectures are masterpieces.
Amazing!
When I found out I had to take history I was dreading it! Then I took this class and realized I could like history. He makes it like a story so you remember almost everything. He is so funny, but sometimes I felt like the only person that got his jokes. If you're not crazy about history I would most definitely recommend him.
Excellent professor. Doesn't care if you show up late. Took all his history classes. Highly recommended.
He is the greatest professor/story teller ever at Pierce College, if you go to class, take great notes and do the reading. There is no way you can fail his class. He is a jokester, but respectful to his students. Class based on exams and drops the lowest one. Take him you won't regret it. Ends class by saying, So long farewell and Go Dodgers!!!
This guy is what separates teachers from educators. He makes history very clear and is almost like a comedian. Highly recommended. If I could I would take the class over again the man is a genius.
One of my favorite professors! Super interesting guy and his tests are super easy. Everyone needs to take him!
He's a great professor who will make lectures feel pretty exciting instead of them being boring. I highly recommend him for anyone taking history. I was not at all interested in history until I walked into his classroom :)
Professor McMillan's lectures/stories were always interesting, funny, and never boring. He is very knowledgeable in his subject and I learned a lot from his class. Classwork consists of 4 tests(the lowest score dropped), and a non cumulative final. No homework! I definitely recommend Professor McMillan to all.
Professor McMillan is an incredible teacher. He is entertaining when he lectures about subjects he obviously loves. He will make you love History. His sense of humor makes him appealing in every way. Your grade is based on your exam scores.
Homework is reading. No extra credit. The teacher is VERY interesting and makes the class worth attending.Gives tests from book and lecture so make sure you read!
Took him during a winter course. LOVED his class. Never found history interesting til he made it seem like a great movie! The class is a bit hard but as long as u pay attention, study, & take notes u should be fine. He cares about his topic and students very much. Pierce is VERY lucky to have him as a teacher. Don't miss out on taking his class!
Prof McMillan is amazing! I honestly hated history before taking him, and he just has a way of making it interesting. If you pay attention in class (it's easy to pay attention) and read the book and study guide, you will do great in this class. Highly recommended!
Ok there's actually two things to this man. I liked his class because his lectures were really interesting and he has some really good stories. I highly recommend checking out his study guide at the library because without it I wouldn't have passed. If you're not good with lectures, then he's not one to take. Other than that quizzes are relevant.
Such an amazing proffessor. He is so interesting and funny that even students who don't like history leave his class learning a lot and loving it. His tests are both lecture and reading based so make sure you attend and read. He is also very strict with his grading system. I got an 89.7% in his class but he still gave me the B. Take his class!!!
This guy is awesome. I was not looking forward to taking history, but this class has become my favorite this semester. Extremely knowledgeable. Go to class, read the book, pay attention and you'll do fine. Highly recommend.
Professor McMillan is so awesome! He's a fun and interesting professor. He makes a lot of jokes!! You do have to read the book!Grades are what they are. If you get a 89.9%, you'l still get a B. Tests are fairly easy, and he always wears a neck tie that matches with his lectures. READ THE BOOK and you should be fine. He is cool! Recommend his class!
Professor Richard McMillan is great! I highly recommend him to everyone even if you don't like history and politics at all- because he will change your mind. He makes the class interesting, funny and full of life. I didn't just pass the class, I've learned a lot! Just attend all his lecture, take good notes and read the book.
Great Prof. Great sense of humor also gives great lectures, which is literally 90% of what the class is. Gives out tests based on the lectures and the textbook, so just read and listen and you get a guaranteed B+. 10/10 would take again.
Extremely clear. This professor knows the material very well
Great professor. Really easy. Great sense of humor. Just show up to class and take notes on his lectures. Tests are pretty much based off his lectures. One or two questions on the tests will be from the book(50 questions). Would definitely take another one of his classes.
Yes, he is a tough teacher but you can pass. He says that the book is required but I only opened it twice. I never read all I did was study the notes. He makes his class exciting and he gets really into his lectures. He will make it so that you can remember what he talked about by making a joke of it. Would definitely take him again.
Great storyteller. Tests are based on lectures and chapters. Drops the lowest graded test. One of the most nicest professor I've ever had.
Amazing teacher! He's so funny and nice; however, the material was pretty tough to memorize. He doesn't assign homework, but there are stuff to read for tests.
Nice professor. 5 tests, drops the lowest. MUST TAKE NOTES DURING LECTURES AND READ THE BOOK. However i did not read the book at all and just by attending and taking good notes passed the class! He acts like he doesnt care about his students but he truly does. He surprised us with 15 points extra credit on the final. His lectures are interesting!
He is literally the best teacher I have had. He makes his classes extremely interesting, and easy to learn. As long as you show up willing to learn, take notes, and study from the book, you should have absolutely no reason not to get an A in any of his classes.
He is AMAZING. when he starts lecturing you do not want him stop!!!!! he is great speaker and historian.
You can really tell McMillan cares about what he teaches. He makes the subject matter really interesting if it isn't your thing and will typically make everyone laugh every lecture. Tests are pretty easy, take good notes and the book won't be all that necessary.
He can be very funny during his lectures. You have to read the book to pass his class. His test were a bit hard, but not impossible. He is a very nice teacher !
McMillan is a great professor if you can remember stuff well or take good notes. He never assigns homework but he does give a bit of extra credit. His tests usually have 1 or 250 questions from the book. His questions are usually worded exactly how he explained it in class.
What an amazing teacher he is , I was amazed by this knowledge and inspired me to learn more about US history, Pierce should feel proud to have him Attend his class take exams and listen to his lectures, He tells you story and it reminds you the answer of questions in exam, Use your common sense and pay attention to his lecture you will get an A
i thought this history class was going to be dreading but honestly mcmillan made it super interesting and fun! his stories are so funny and the way he does lecture is cool. be prepared to read chapters and pay attention to lecture. recording his lectures helps out. tests were good but tricky.
Easiest class EVER! I got an A and barely cracked the book open. I never missed class, got to know him, and got an easy A. TAKE HIM, HE'S NICE AND COOL AND FUNNY!
McMillan is the type of teacher to not give homework, not give pops, and just straight test. My class had 5 test, one a week, with 50 ?s on each. Straight forward and using examples of his history as well as relatives to teach the class, although not relate-able, very enthusiastic and EXTREMELY hilarious. Best professor I've had, hands down. YF
I'm a person that's not into history so much but the fact that he was able to make history interesting enough for me to pay attention says a lot. He's funny and shares some of his own family history. Hands down, the best professor I've had all semester.
Semi easy A if you try. Make sure to not skip class because there were questions on every test about things he specifically only talked about in class. This guy is most definitely self absorbed and tends to go on rants about his life which can get annoying but as easy as it is to zone out, don't. THERE WILL BE A QUESTION ON THE TEST ABOUT IT.
One of the best teachers I've had at Pierce. He's funny and his lectures are interesting. He encourages his students to record his lectures, which I would recommend doing since it helps you to study for his tests. He provides study guides which can be found in the library. Read the book if you can. Drops one test and offers extra credit. Take him.
I took Mcmillan in the Fall, which changed my life, I hate history! But I loved him!. I always failed history in high school, but being in his class made me want to learn more! I passed with an A. Now im taking the winter session excited to learn more. He really makes history exciting and not boring at all.
Take him!! Seriously!! I wish every teacher would teach like him. He doesn't give homework. All you do is take 5 testsand he drops the lowest 1!! He does offer extra credit at the end of the semester. Show up every day and take notes and you'll be good. Oh and he also let's you record his lectures which is helpful because you can hear them over!!!
Meh he was arrogant and went too slow in lectures, kinda funny though
He's awesome super straightforward class , first time i actually cared about history
His lectures aren't always comprehensive, but his lecture style allows one to develop interest and intuition that guides one's frame of mind while reading the text. Only reading assignments given; 5 MC exams. Completing the reading is necessary for getting a good grade. Very creative and caring, but a rather cheeky fellow.
Uncle Richie is honestly one of the most caring Professors you you'll ever have, even though he emphasises on the fact he doesn't, don't believe him thats bull... His lectures are are VERY interesting and his stories are funny.. Time is never on his side which sucks because there are always more stories to tell and more info. to give..
OMG. He is the best. I love the way he was talking. He vitalized characters. I took him in winter. 5 tests including final, dropped the lowest score reading the book mandatory in order to pass the class with A. His study guide in library are very helpful.
If you skip his lectures, you won't pass the class. He is probably the best history professor in Pierce. very respected by students :))
Great professor; a gifted story teller and a bona fide scholar. Straightforward MC exams with the lowest score dropped. My scoring exams averaged higher than 49/50 so take it from me: you need to do the reading to get an A.
He is a great teacher. He doesn't use the textbook to teach he knows it well. Easy lectures, super funny guy, is beyond helpful but take notes lots of them and read the book in your spare time. Study, study, study and you'll do great.
An amazing history professor! He's very kind and funny. If you study and show up to his classes you will definitely pass. He is also a great story teller which helps to bring the lectures come to life. I wish he could teach all of the history classes at Pierce. I also highly recommend using some kind of recording device to record lectures :)
Lectures every class, even after exams, but his lectures are amazing! He makes jokes and connects his stories to the history we're learning about. Truly makes it enjoyable to learn about Latin American Gods, aside from trying to learn their names. Love him! Super chill and fun. You must read the assigned readings!! You wont get higher than a C. 3
Professor Mcmillan is a great teacher! He is really funny and is a die hard Dodgers fan! The class is mainly lectures because how else do you learn history? He is not boring at all! his lectures are always interesting. there are 4 tests and a final. just study your notes and read the assigned book pages and your good! Easy!
Mcmillan is a fair teacher, but why is this class harder than my Physics and Chem class? Go to the library and get the study guide. I read through the book several times and it didn't help much. There was this one time where some of the questions on the exam were from the wrong chapter. He makes up for it in the final, and that helped a little, no.
Wut can I say that hasn't been said... he is just an amazing teacher! He does give extra credit. Class consisted on 4 MC tests and one MC final. Plus he gives amazing lectures that will have second guessing not showing up for class.
He's a good professor but unfortunately I don't do well with his style. Lecture heavy (students record it) and a lot of assigned reading. A student asked how they should study for the test, he read the book as if you were reading your favorite novel and to know it all for the test. The test was different from what I knew and blew it. Good luck
Amazing professor. My experience with professors has no been that great until I met Richard. He's a chill guy and will make you love history. If your lazy like me and sometimes zone out in class just make sure to record him. Read the assigned pages which is usually 3 chapters a test and you'll pass.
He's HILARIOUS! He makes history not sound like a bore. All you have to do is do the reading but you can even skip that if you pay well enough to his lectures. No homework and all tests but there is an extra credit opportunity before the final, although you probably won't even need it. He's like a cool grandpa with awesome stories. Recommended!
Professor McMillan is someone that changed my view of history. When he lectures, it's as if you are watching a movie. He has so many stories and behind the scenes significances in history that makes you want to go to every lecture. His tests include things from lectures and the book so you can't miss lectures, but you won't want to miss a lecture.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! And that says a lot coming from a person who HATED taking any History classes. This man gives life to History. He talks about Presidents like they're his old pals and his lectures are as if you're just listening to a grandparent's life story. There's no other professor better to take History with than this man.
This man is genuinely the best professor I've had and absolutely the best professor Pierce College has. He cares about his students' success and it shows. He loves what he does and that makes his class interesting and fun. I wish I could take him for every subject.
SO good. He's lecture-heavy, so don't expect much discussion or debate, but his lectures are like engaging & funny stories. Missing class is fine as long as you get the notes. Tests are multiple choice and everything is fair game: lectures, reading, tangents he went on in class. Not your ordinary history class, in the best way. Take him.
Without a doubt, the best professor I've had at Pierce. He's hilarious, charismatic, and makes his lectures very entertaining. If you attend lectures and read the assigned chapters, his tests shouldn't be a problem. There's an extra credit opportunity that'll help as well. I seriously wish more professors here were as great as him.
Great professor but his tests are very difficult. Read the book and go to the library and ask for his study guides. Great lectures, he's really funny.
Professor McMillan is awesome and I very much recommend him. He is very lecture heavy but his lectures are almost like story time, he teaches history like he was there living it. You must show up and pay attention and READ or you will have a difficult time. His class ia not difficult at all, just not meant for lazy people. I would take him again.
I really enjoyed taking professor McMillan, his lectures are entertaining and he makes history fun. You will most definitely need to read the book as he sometimes doesn't go over material in it before the exam. If you stay on top of the reading you are sure to pass and the best part is he allows you to record his lectures.
One of the best history professors I've ever taken at Pierce. He loves to teach and loves talking about his life. His stories are funny and enjoyable and relate to the course
I would definitely recommend this instructor to anyone who wants to take history. He is very knowledgeable. His lecture is like story telling, interesting, & he is funny! You must take good notes. He has a study guide book in the library that is helpful! It helps to go through the study guide before reading the chapter to know what to focus on more
He is excellent, woukd take his class again of I could
His lectures are very important. He does not require attendance but it you want to pass the exams you need to be there. Reading the book is also important as he doesn't cover all the material during lectures. I took him for winter semester so it went by quick. Tests are fairly easy if you pay attention to lectures and do the reading. He's funny too
The most interesting lectures ever. He is hilarious, so all of the info he talks is easy to memorize. I was not really good with reading because of my English skills, but I still passed with B and I loved the class. No homework whatsoever. Almost 70% of the test is from lectures so be prepared.
Great professor. His lectures are so interesting.
One of the best professors I've had.
Really good professor and great guy.
McMillan is one of the best professors I've had at Pierce. His lectures are interesting, funny, and informative. Be sure to read the book outside of class and pay attention to his lectures because it's all fair game for the tests. If I had time for another history class, I'd definitely take him again.
He single best history teacher I have ever had! He has made history into a fun, but still challenging course. I highly recommend him!
The class is hard if you don't keep up but it's very straight forward and he gives great lectures. It's all tests so if you get the study guide from the library and study it you can do good. Some questions on the study guide are on the tests. It's important to read the text book too because he doesn't lecture on everything that's on the test.
His lectures are really one of a kind and he is very straight forward and smart. Also likes to crack a joke here and there which made it a fun class and easy if you take detailed notes during the lectures and take advantage of the study guide! Highly recommend!
Professor gave good lectures. Make sure you take notes because some of the lecture are on the test questions. Can be very funny during lectures and explains things deeply. Is very passionate about his lectures and history.
He is honestly the best teacher with great lectures who really doesn't care about anything. There are four tests, he drops the lowest , and a fifth test, the final . You must use his study guide and read the book. This class may be an easy B but not an easy A unless you work for it. you Will pass no doubt but getting an A is kind of hard. fun guy
Decent Professor. Lectures are boring but he does his best to make them interesting. 4 exams & drops the lowest score. Then the final. Gave 2 easy extra credit assgts. Takes stuff from lecture, book, & study guide to put on the exam. Got a B because I missed most lectures and didn't get the book. So easy A if you at least get the book.
Took McMillan for history 11, I really enjoyed his class. He doesn't care if your late, leave early, or don't show up it's up to you if you mis a lecture because he never does. His class is based on lectures and reading the textbook there are no assignments besides the test. Easy class if you read and take notes, use study guide as well, great class
I took Prof. McMillan in Spring 2017 and get an A. He is a very good professor because he made history into many funny stories for you to understand. The class graded on 4 non-finals, 1 finals; he will drop the lowest one and all are MC. Study the textbook, lectures, and take good notes too.
best professor I ever, he doesn't care if you show up to class or not. Do everything he says and you'll pass. go over the study guid and read the book. Tests are not hard and some questions are about jokes he tells in class.
His lectures are engaging and funny. He grades only on the tests, and it's all based on the textbook and lectures. He lectures on information not in the book, so you can theoretically *pass* by only reading, but to get the most out of the class and do well, go to the lectures. I've taken 11 and 12 and I'm taking 13 with him next semester.
Prof mac is great at lecturing. As long as your there and do the readings, you should do well. Hes funny and a nice guy. Hard tests but if you prepare youll be fine. Would take again if I could have
His lectures are amazing and he is truly the best professor at Pierce.
Richard McMillan is a very punctual teacher, he will give tests back the next day and he gave us our final back within minutes. His tests consist of lecture and historically relevant content in the book, and you cannot get an A if you neglect either. He has a very pleasant demeanor and makes class fun each day, and I would take him again for sure.
I told him I'd give him a pepper. Professor R. McMillan was one of the best history professors I had, I took him for History 12,5 & 6. Though one thing is that you have to read, some people will say that you don't as long as you follow his lecture. But it's up to you. Do you want an A or C? His exams are lecture heavy with questions from the book.
best professor ever! I was lucky to take his class:) follow his lecture and read the book, and you'll guarantee an easy A!! I took him for history 13 in summer and I enjoyed his class :)
Best professor ever! He's super hilarious. I love his lecture; he makes history easy to remember. Read the book and take note in class and you will pass. Highly reccomend!
Professor McMillan is one of my favorite professors. He is funny and knowledgeable. His lectures are very interesting. His exams are all multiple choice questions. If you want to get an A on the exams study your notes and the study guide he suggests you to get from the library.
By far the best professor anyone can ask for! He's the funniest professor I've taken. Makes every lecture exciting and really cares for his students. He's also very passionate about what he is teaching. I've never really been into history until mcmills. I strongly recommend taking him. No hw, read the book, and you should pass with an A.
Wonderful Professor! Though McMillan has a conservative bent, his lectures are substantive and are of great historical depth (Unlike Chartrand who just spouts off his opinions). As a history major, I was always excited to attend McMillan's class. He has a gift for engaging students and delivering cinematic-like lectures. Hope to take again!
Took him for Hist 5 & 6... Excellent lecturer, very good sense of humor, don't use the book much but you'll learn a lot from him!
Prof McMillan is by far one of the best educators I've come across! His classes are clear - if you listen to his lectures, read the book AND his study guide in the library, you'll get an A! He drops the lowest test score. I never thought I'd enjoy a history class until I met this prof. He is hilarious and amazing. He deserves a pepper! Thank you!
Funniest professor I've had! His lectures will keep you entertained and awake! Makes history fun and interesting!
Great teacher for history. The class is not boring and he makes you laugh, and understand the material and history of the US. grading is based on the 4 test out of five test and he drops the lowest grade(not final) recording his lecture will help you a lot. pay attention to what he says even personal stories since he uses them on the tests.
His lectures are unnecessarily prolonged and extremely boring; filled with blabbering, rubbish, and jokes that usually fall flat. His testing method lures you into listening to his lectures, because some of his personal stories may or may not end up as questions on his tests. Worst of all, he abuses his tenure by limiting our breaks to 5 minutes
Professor McMillan is by far one of the best teachers on campus. He combines witty and funny humor to his lecture. To pass his class you do need to put in some effort. There are four test and a final . Also he's quite handsome, words can't describe his handsomeness but numbers can 11/10.
This guy is a god. He is so funny and always makes the lesson fun and understanding. There's lots of reading, it's History. Take lots of notes. I've taken him for 2 semesters in a row now, I'm planning on taking his other classes. There's never any homework. Sometimes there's extra credit (depending on which class it is).
great guy and awesome teacher. imagine someone who can make history interesting. clear testing criteria and no homework.
A "must take" professor! Professor McMillan's lectures are interesting and unique. He inserts examples that expand on the material. His tests include questions that are only given in his lectures - so don't miss class!
best history teacher ever. simple rule, be in class and listen, you will pass
Taken him 3 different times. Hands down one of the best professors. Record the lectures and you will defiantly pass.
He's awesome! Best history professor in the district! I would recommend him to everyone that needs to take history. He's easy, just read and attend class and get the study guide at the library. He made me doubt my major because he made me fall in love with history.
I only took this class to fulfill my general requirements and I'm so happy I did! McMillan made history fun and interesting. His lectures are engaging, funny and he has information you won't get from a textbook. Attend class and pay attention, he tells stuff in a way that's easy to retain. I learned a LOT and would take him again just for fun.
Amazing professor! His classes are so easy to pass, yet you learn a lot.
Show up to Class , make sure to take notes and pay attention to his jokes. (RECORD lectures) Exams are straight from the book so read your chapters. Do yourself the favor and check out the study guide. Maybe he'll give you extra credit depends on his mood haha.
Wonderful professor made history fun and interesting. Highly recommend, make sure you show up to class, take notes, study and you'll get an A no problem. Tons of extra credit offered.
Amazing teacher. His lectures are very important so dont miss class. Test is based out of lecture and reading materials. Study guide is very useful. He has a good sense of humor so lecture doesnt get boring. One of the best!
Great lecturer. I am grateful from taking this class. Really changed my life.
Best professor I've had ever!!!! He's super funny and makes all his lectures funny, there's never a boring class. I've had him three times now. If you want to pass you need to listen to the lectures, he lets you record him. Take as many notes as possible, there's some hard reading, yet his lectures cover the reading. Buy the study guide.
Took his summer class for History 11, Weekly testing but extremely easy tests. I'll be honest I didn't even crack the book once but i recommend doing the readings to get the A. The class actually inspired me to change my major to History! I'll definitely be taking him again!
A midterm and a final and a paper is all your grade consists of. Sometimes an occasional in class extra credit. Midterm was online and you had 2 days to complete it. Questions were word for word out of the textbook. Very time consuming. Lectures aren't very interesting, but he's a nice guy.
Professor McMillan is honestly one of the best teachers I have ever had. The tests are hard and you need to work for your grade but I have never had a teacher that cares so much for his students and teaches in the manner he does. He really is an excellent professor and his wisdom is off the charts. If you like learning, this is the class for you!
Very enjoyable lectures, great storyteller, doesn't just regurgitate the text. You will pass the tests if you read the book and USE THE STUDY GUIDE.
Number 4. An amazing professor with great lectures which makes the information easier to remember once the test comes. Read the text book and use the study guides as well as attend class and you should pass the class!
Damn fine professor, intend to take again! Grade is based on 4 tests and the final. The final had approx. 30% extra credit on it too!
such an amazing, fun class. materials are a lot to go over and not a very easy A class. you gotta work for it, but so fun. the lectures are amazingly full of jokes and stories. he makes fun of everything and the stories about history sit in your mind forever. extra credits will be given as well.
If you're not a great auditory learner, McMillan's lectures will be eye-opening. He's funny as hell and knows his stuff. Best word to describe him is "effective." Don't miss class, don't skimp on studying, and do the readings. You'll pass this class and enjoy doing it.
He doesnt take roll at all. Theres 1 extra credit opportunity at the end of class and he drops your lowest test score. Theres only 4 tests in the whole class, hes pretty funny.... but if youre lazy you dont gotta show up.
HES THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER TAKEN , but if you are a history major he may be for you he made it very clear at the beginning of the semester he could care less if you came to class, he is the worst prof. he could care less if yoU PASS, or not outr of 3 tests so far the first average score 20 out of 50 2nd test average 20/50 and the third 30
He wasn't organized all semester he was rushing his lectures, some test questions contradict what he says in class, more than half the class was failing
Professor McMillan is the funniest professor I have ever taken. His lectures are amazing and you learn a lot through his stories. As long as you show up to the lectures you will pass. Highly recommend!!
Prof McMillan has great lectures. He makes them interesting and keeps you engaged. However, his tests are rather difficult. On nearly every test, almost half the class failed every time. He does offer extra credit which is nice. Do not expect to pass if you do not do the reading. Overall a solid dude with difficult tests.
I have so much respect for this professor. I took his history 13 class and absolutely LOVED it. His lectures are interesting and he is funny. Always enjoyed his class but BEWARE he only bases grades by tests and the final about a total of 5 tests. If you don't study, read the textbook or have test anxiety like me you probably won't pass.
interesting and definitely worth taking. Yes he has only test but oh well study, if you study its a easy A. learn to not be so sensitive to what he says .He does care about his students someone below said he doesnt, he spent half of class explaining ways how to be safe on campus and gave the right info. Just listen and record lectures.
History just isn't my thing. This professor put me to sleep for almost every single lecture. He's a really funny and nice guy, but this class was boring
He is a Good guy but not a good professor Heavy test Disorganized Lots of reading
Brilliant professor. Lectures are hilarious and enjoyable, only homework assignment is reading the assigned chapters (YOU WILL NOT PASS WITHOUT READING SOME OF THE BOOK) and only five tests including the final. No study guides but someone made a quizlet for the class. Overall great professor!
easy final
The lectures are amazing. You won't get bored. There is no homework except for the reading of the book which you must do to be able to pass the test. Getting the study guide really helps. He sounds very tough, but if you do the work, show up to every class and participate you'll be fine.
Prof. McMillan is such a great professor. His tests are mostly on the selected chapters of the book, with some questions about his personal life. I highly recommend recording his lectures and listen to it on your free time. His lectures are great; he tells you things that you wouldn't even believe, but that's the beauty of history. Great man...
His lectures were always interesting. Says the book isn't mandatory but buy it anyway if you want to pass. 5 tests but he drops the lowest grade. He only grades you based on your tests which sucks for those who arent good test takers. He also doesnt like to hear other people speak or their opinions so stay quiet. 1 10pt e.c. and 15pts e.c. on final
prof mcmillan is very clear as to what he needs you to do to succeed. he really tries to make the class entertaining and for the most part he managed to keep me awake for 5 weeks and I reallllyyyyy hate history. there is A LOT of reading. you will not do well in the class if you dont get the book. i recommend recording his lectures.
I wish I could take more classes with him. By far the most inspiring professor I ever met. The class is easy as long as you pay attention and read the book. No trick questions, just straight up what we've learned in class. Makes history so much fun!
One of the best professors I've ever had. He's super funny and great history teacher. Lots of history lovers would agree with me, when I say his classes are the best. He doesn't assign homework, but he's got 5 tests (final included), and his grading criteria is simple. Come to class, take notes. He assigns extra credit, which is always a bonus.
I wish I had taken him sooner, I wouldve taken him for all my history classes. He is one of the funniest professors and performs each lecture with pure passion. He doesnt assign homeworks, but you MUST pay attention to every lecture, as well as read the book once in awhile. Take this professor; hes a teacher you will never forget.
Very nice guy, awful teacher just was unorganized we didnt use canvas and I was very disappointed upon reading good reviews.
Yes, Professor McMillan is unorganized and likes to ramble off-topic sometimes but nevertheless his class is not difficult. I recommend that you pay attention to his lectures, take notes and read the book. There were 4 exams (drops the lowest score) and a final.
Almost all his classes are structured the same. Lecture based, 4 tests + final. Drops the lowest test score. No textbook for his courses. Tests are based on lecture only. He's very clear about what you're expected to know (hint: if he spells a word its on the test). An easy straightforward class with a really caring and sweet professor.
I feel like he is a tough professor; no joke. Thinks he is the best (literally says I am the best professor). He gives a book of so much to read and you also take like 5 pages of notes in every class. And the information in the book and what he says don't always match. Very unorganized and doesn't know how to do online teaching; completely lost.
Throughly enjoyed his lectures! Grades based on 4 tests (Drops the lowest test score) + a final. He usually does not give extra credit, but on some occasions he will. This class can be hard for individuals that have learning disabilities or those who have test anxiety. Make an outline, read the book, take notes, & pay attention to personal stories!
This guy is the literally the GOAT. First day of online lecture. He said attendance not mandatory guys. I know the virus is really messing everyone up and I dont want to add to your problems or stress in your life so NO HOMEWORK. One test per MONTH. Any questions contact me. Every kid in class was jumping for joy! Hes super great!
he writes his tests kind of weird but he always drops the lowest of the test scores you have so its easy to get used to.
I've taken all of his history classes and he is honestly the best professor I have ever had. His lectures are funny and accurate does go off-topic at times. His class is based off 4 tests and a final, he drops your lowest test score. If he assigns a book it is best to get the notes in the lecture and read the chapters assigned. best professor
Long lectures, lets u record but gives so much info to remember. Wants you to remember his jokes, will be included in the test. Attendance is mandatory bc if u miss a lecture you wont pass. You need to read that fat book. He once told an autistic guy to stfu, he apologized afterwards but its not right. Took him 2 years ago & Im still not over it
I've wanted to take McMillan since my first semester at Pierce. I heard he was great and he exceeded my expectations by FAR! His tests are straightforward (but he does expect you to remember his opinions and some jokes) and you need to do the reading for History 12. Overall, he was funny and great. I can't wait to take another class with him!
After a week in History 12 I decided to add History 5 with McMillan because he is AWESOME! He doesn't use a textbook for 5/6 so the tests are simpler than History 12 because he only tests on materials he tells you directly. I'm so glad I took two classes with him, he is my favorite professor.
Attendance for zooms is not mandatory, recorder lectures are posted. I suggest attending all of them in case the recording gets lost, the test is based on the lectures. You can get a passing grade with just the lectures but you will get great test scores if you do the reading as well. An amazing fun professor with a lot of knowledge. No hw, 5 tests
Took this course over the summer of 2020. The hardest part was reading the textbook as a supplement to his lectures, but his recordings are very fascinating.
By far the MOST AMAZING PROFESSOR I have encountered. If you do the work (because that's what school is about) you will pass this course. He has a unique and effective way of lecturing course material to keep his students engaged and interested. I would absolutely take his class again and I recommend to all my classmates. Thanks Professor McMillan
This class was very informative and entertaining but the lectures get a little boring sometimes. There aren't many graded assignments so pay attention in lectures and read the textbook carefully for the tests. Otherwise, he made me laugh a lot and he gave a lot of random interesting facts that are great to have in the back of your pocket at parties
Professor McMillan is just great. His lectures are fun and interesting, and you actually learn about things that you wouldn't normally hear about. 4 exams, 1 final (not accumulative). You want an easy A? This is as close as you'll get, however you do need to pay attention to the lectures. Other than that, you'll do fine. Also he gives no Homework!
I adored Prof McMillan! He was a genuine guy who really cares about teaching and imparting his knowledge! He tries to make the history as interesting and relatable as possible, and tells a lot of stories during class. He always adds something he's talked about in lecture on his tests, so make sure you attend! I highly recommend him!
A great professor, had him online for Hist 5. No textbook, this means that the class is lecture only, but he records them so if you can re watch them. Take as much notes as possible as anything he says can be on the test. There's only a few tests but they are easy if you payed attention / studied you're gonna be good. Great class
Professor McMillans class was an absolute joy to attend, his energy and attitude really translates to the students. He sets up clear criteria for grades, and as long as you do the reading, show up to class, and take notes you should do well.
By far the best GE professor I've taken in the LACCD, if you hate writing papers and doing group discussions, with assigned homework, this is the professor for you. You will have to read the book because some of the exam questions come from it, couldn't tell you how much but it's a good compromise for a light and easy workload.
Really straightforward class. Take detailed lecture notes, and don't zone out too much when it sounds like he's going on tangents in class. He will put questions on the test about them. Teaches history through an extremely white straight male lens, but he doesn't ask too much of you, and if you do it you'll pass.
Prof McMillan is excellent. His lectures are hilarious, entertaining, and will keep interest. Lectures are akin to him telling a story. The exams are multiple choice and aren't to hard. Take heavy notes on what is said in lectures and tangents they will be on the test. People's names appear on tests alot. One of the most interesting classes.
Great Lecturer and keeps your attention the whole time.
I LOVED HIS CLASS!! He's lectures felt so easy to understand and keep up with his lectures were also very interesting and intertaing and inspirational. It was funny and he is caring, his work is really easy to do and get gone wasn't very heavy ln the work load which is good if you work part time or full time etc.
Such a good teacher. If you're taking history I'd recommend him. Easy class and easy tests as long as you listen in class.
Mr. McMillan Is both funny and educational with a hint of sass. Just pay attention to the lectures and his jokes and you should easily pass the tests.
I suggest that you jot down every single details he says, even his unnecessary jokes. He doesn't give any discussion he only base your grades on your quizzes which only contains 5 quizzes. His funny professor but the quizzes are the only issue because he gave tricky questions and you only have very limited time. Expect the unexpected questions.
Professor McMillan is a good professor. You will enjoy his class. There are 5 exams overall and your grades will based on those exams so be prepared to take them. Most important thing when you attend his class is pay full attention when he talks about the lectures specially to the small details. He includes them on the exam.
Hands down the best professor I've ever had. Class consists of Prof. McMillan giving a lecture...and that's it. The lectures are actually very entertaining. McMillan is a very high energy and positive professor, and he always tries to make the class laugh. Pay attention to the lecture even when it seems off topic. The reviews don't lie, take him!
He is a storyteller! I dislike history but every time I came into his class, I felt like I was listening to a historical drama or tv show! His lectures felt like stories from the past, not boring textbook memorization notes. He is very knowledgeable about life in general and gives great advice. He is witty, knowledgeable, and welcoming.
Wonderful professor, exams online on Sunday. Make sure to take note on his lectures for the tests will have questions based on what is said in class, along with details from the text. Allows computers FOR note taking. Laugh at his jokes.
I can't believe the other reviews on here. In the first lecture, McMillan delivered a number of offensive "jokes" in such rapid succession it should genuinely be recorded for Ripley's. This man is clearly a fan of lecturing to people, but fails to recognize how unbelievably harmful his "jokes" and "advice" can be. Avoid.
the best professor on pierce campus. He is the most hilarious. He is a story teller and you will be amazed by his teaching skills.
the best professor on campus period. super easy class for history.
Great History teacher that tells stories like no other. He keeps you well engaged and, as long as you take notes during is lectures and do what little reading his assigns, you'll pass the class. He allows audio recording. His humor is a little old and advice dated, but he means well. No homework, only 5 exams including Final.
McMillan is an amazing professor. He makes history interesting and his lectures are so funny, entertaining, and educational. If you are debating on taking his class I highly suggest you do. There are a total of 5 exams that are mostly about his lectures but include questions about the reading as well. As long as you put in the work you will be fine
Macmillan was really a fantastic professor. Very caring. Pay attention to his lectures. His exams are fairly straightforward. fifty multiple choice questions. Read the text, and again, PAY ATTENTION while he is lecturing!!!! Great professor, overall. I would take him, in a heartbeat!
Best professor I ever have!!!!!!!! pay attention to his story. He gave so much detail and fact about history! I used to hate history as a subject but he completely changed my mind. I didn't know history could be that interesting until I've take his class!!!!
NEVER GIVES HOMEWORK! Everything is based on the class lectures. They do not feel like "boring" history lectures. He is an AMAZING storyteller who knows the subject and real world. Amazing, understanding, and hilarious professor!
Prof McMillan is such a great lecturer. I was never bored and I always left class having learned something. There is no homework, but make sure to read the assigned chapters before the exams!
I took his class during the Fall semester. He does not give any homework, and the grade is based solely on his tests; the lowest grade from a test is dropped at the end of the semester. His lectures are entertaining; pay attention to his personal stories, as they are used to supplement the lesson from the lecture and they are also on the test.
So easy to learn with him, lectures feels like when a friend of yours tells you a story, except he has a textbook to back it up. Just show up to class, and take as many notes as you possibly can, and do your reading and you'll be just fine. (Some of his remarks/terms are dated, though, but the rest of his jokes are funny!)
Prof McMillian is a one in a million kind of person. He genuinely cares about history and possesses the rare talent of being a true storyteller. He only gives 5 or 6 quizzes and then a final. All you have to do is show up to class and take notes and You can pass this class easy. He enjoys teaching and it shows in his lectures. He's an 11/10!
This class is highly entertaining and you learn so much about history. He is an older guy so some of his jokes may go over your head, but he cares about his students and does his best to have fun and informative lectures. definitely need to attend otherwise you will miss out on info for the tests.
Very fun and knowledgable!!! Breaks the education norms and is committed to the subject but also guiding the next young generation. You will learn a lot from his class. He keeps things interesting and class literally feels like he's telling a story. TAKE HIM!!!!!
Do not take this professor for any class. It is all about him and give very little opportunity to share your perspective. Pushes his political agenda.
I LOVE THIS PROF!! if you need to take a graduation requirement like His013 then i really recommend prof. McMillan. There is no HW but about 4 tests and they're roughly 50 questions and they're really easy on top of that. Just attend class and take brief notes on what he says and you'll pass with a high grade definitely. Take notes on everything.
There are 4 quizzes and a final. Each quiz and the final has 50 multiple choice questions, with the final having 1 essay question. His lectures consist of him telling stories from his past and making jokes which are mostly irrelevant to the material, but nevertheless keep the class entertaining. His jokes either made me laugh out loud or cringe.
This professor is very kind but his lectures can be difficult to understand and I wish that he would clarify the materials better. There are a lot of details in his lectures, so take good notes, read the pages of the textbook, and attend the class. The quiz questions can be confusing, he tells a lot of side-stories. I struggled with understanding.
I think Professor McMillan is a good professor who engages with his class, but I wouldn't take this class again due to the lecture structure. It's 70% side-stories and 30% actual content, making the three-hour class feel unproductive. Overall, this is an easy A.
Is able to grab students attention on either the m
Professor McMillan is an engaging storyteller who brings the material to life. While his lectures can veer off-topic at times, paying attention pays off. To succeed, use the free textbook, focus in class, and try unstuckstudy AI for efficient study prep.
Professor McMillian is the first professor to make history feel interesting to me. You are graded by 4 quizzes plus a final. All you have to do is pay attention to his lectures and do the required readings. But what makes him stand out is his wonderful storytelling. Hilarious, insightful, very engaging, and sometimes "R-rated" as he says. 10/10.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Insanely fun and interesting lectures that make history feel like the best movie ever
Great Prof, friendly funny and meaningful lectures. Ties in life stories (which are great and interesting) into the lecture. By far one of the best professors I've had 10/10 would recommend. Just pay attention and you'll be fine.
Professor McMillan makes his lectures very engaging and interesting to learn from, as well as incorporating jokes and humor into his lessons. Although I do wish he graded us on other things besides exams so it can help redeem my grade. You're graded on 4 quizzes and a final including an essay question, your lowest quiz score is dropped.
His style of teaching feels less like a lecture, and more so like an engaging storytelling, which was VERY useful in making historical events feel like REAL tangible things to me, rather than words in a textbook.
A great professor and genius. Very funny as well, 100% would recommend his classes to anyone.
Prof McMillan constructed the easiest class to pass, and even non-history majors love him. I took him for THREE classes, and he was my easy class. He does base the quizzes off of his lectures, but the quizzes are your only grade, and he drops the lowest for you. If you miss a class, get the notes.
Do not take this class, I honestly can't believe how he twists American History. He can't go 5 minutes without making some offensive joke that has nothing to do with the lecture. He doesn't care if you learn he just wants to push his own political ideas. Avoid his class; you're better off reading a book.
I've never met anyone so openly sexist. He only talks about women if they are fat or ugly, and he is always talking about strippers and young women. Today in class, he actually said the n-word with the hard r, and I honestly can't believe he's still a professor here. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
I'm going to miss Professor McMillan's lectures. He's such a funny man and a great storyteller; he definitely captures your attention. No homework—all you need to do is show up, listen to the lectures, and take notes. Pay attention to his lectures because you will be tested on them. You're graded on 4 quizzes and your final. Best professor ever!
okay, so professor mcmillan talks A LOT, which is expected for a lecture-based class, but you won't be ready for it at first. once you get used to his side-tangents and sort-of dry humor, he becomes funny and interesting. he loves engagement and really tries to be accommodating and there for his students.
No hw and tests answers are extremely findable. Frequently 5-10 minutes late to class, wastes time at the top of every class and runs out of time and crams in the last few minutes of his lecture. I'll add on to another review that he did say the N-word with a hard R in class for absolutely no reason along with other slightly racist/sexist comments
This professor is great. He knows his history in extreme detail. He makes the lessons very easy to understand and to remember. If you actually decide to pay attention you'll enjoy his class and actually learn.
Professor McMillan is a great professor! He really teaches history well and teaches students how to look at an issue from all the sides, whether you agree with someone's interpretation or not, which is how students should be learning. Definitely take his class!
I had him for fall 2017 in history 11 and history 12 in spring 2018. He's a happy teacher and tells funny words.
Professor McMillan is a pretty cool guy. He has his lectures memorized fairly well and also has a book of notes to read off of when needed. He's pretty funny too, sometimes, he'll come to class wearing a random hat or make subtle jokes. If you're interested in history or just need to take it for credit, I'd recommend taking McMillan's classes.
This professor is one of the best professors at Pierce college! I graduated in 2019 but if I had the chance to take a class with him again I would because of him I finally realized I had dyslexia. This professor experience and knowledge is unmatched to any other history professor. Thank you, Professor!!
super republican and pushes his beliefs heavily during class. light workload, just graded on five exams, but constantly making offensive comments. understandable lectures, he does make an effort to be engaging
I picked this professor because of the negative reviews, which have now been removed, that depicted him as being extremely racist and misogynistic. I was profoundly disappointed. He's a boomer "conservative" who gives classically liberal talking points occasionally. Still the best history prof at Pierce, but don't expect a fully legitimate history.
