Totally cool guy, more like a football coach than a professor. But, don't let his relaxed attitude and humor fool you he is one of the smartest professors out there. All notes are in Powerpoint and posted on Blackboard which is a big help.
He is a really hard professor, and does not give many assignments. He is kind of intimidating at first, but if you show that you are trying hard, he will pass you.
This guy is pretty cool and laid back. The tests are challenging, but he makes the material really easy to understand. He's one of the best profs i've had. He is loaded with info related to the course and is happy to share his knowledge.
I looooove Melloni!

tries to make the class simple although the subject is somewhat complicated. good teacher, wants everyone to understand.
Makes everything sound so simple. His tests are hard, but if you learn the material, it isn't so bad. He uses powerpoint but explains it in full in class, constantly asking if anyone has any questions. The powerpoint was a classpak, the only reading.
Melloni knows his *hit... but he is a bit arrogant and I was not treated with respect in his class. Also, if you're a neuroscience major and have alot of psych people in your class.. get ready to learn all about action potentials..
I think Melloni is awesome. He really knows his material well and is great and making it seem down to earth. He presesnts the material in common terms that everyone can understand. I really recommend taking at least one of his classes!
Good class...Melloni is a really good teacher, and this class covers of material but if you go to lectures and study the way he tells you to, you will be fine...I got my first 99 on a college exam in this class
Challenging tests, but an awesome professor! Great info and very humorous.
Let me just say that I hate science, which is why I'm a psych major. The course is really challenging, but just as long as you study and pay attention in class, it's not that bad... though the tests he gives have been known to give it's takers migraines.
Melloni is beyond cool. Knows his material to each and every point. Likes to answer questions and is very willing to help those in need of it. The tests are moderate but they do require a fair amount of reading over and over. No book. A powerpoint packet which has EVERYTHING that will be on the test
One of the best teachers I've had at NU. Knows the material inside out and has a passion for the field. Also has the ability to make information that can be boring interesting. His skill is readily apparent when the TA teaches and there is such a deviation in quality.
my favorite class so far. difficult at times but if you pay attention and read the packet which has everything! that will be on the test you'll be fine. his passion is very apparent, he knows his sh*t and he loves it. absolutely amazing class, i'm almost sad it's over
Good class. Does good job though he can be confusing. Would be better if he was a bit less arrogant.
Probably one of my favorite classes. He is an awesome professor and is very knowledgable and understandable in his teaching. I would recommend this class to anyone interested. Some of his test are a little hard, but I feel that I've learned so much!

enjoyed both psychopharm and psychobio very much, tests can be difficult, but he usually gives u all his lecture notes so that makes it a lot easier.
Prof Melloni is an excellent teacher IN CLASS. However, it's almost impossible to contact him outside of class (at least was my experience.) This class is really interesting, and I learned a lot. But when it comes to getting extra help or really anythin
Have had him both for Psychobio and psychpharm. Although I enjoyed both classes, I felt I could have learned much more. He frequently canceled classes and let class out early by 30 mins every time. If thats something you like, then go for it, but I am actually interested in subject material and we didn't cover a lot of what he said we would. He's also very arrogant and don't ask him for a recommendation because he won't remember to send it.
He is very smart and states everything clearly. Very interesting class. I learned a lot. The tests can be hard but there are no tricky questions. Every question will be laid out in the book.
Allows you to be exempt from finals if you have an A (94) NOTHING LESS. Don't try w/a 93.5. Won't happen. But I never took a final in either of the 2 classes I had with him. Very knowledgable. Never had to find him outside of class but I hear he is a ghost. Wouldn't doubt it. But I would take him if he taught other higher courses....
Prof. Melloni was very straightforward, funny, and well spoken in psychobiology. I took the class as a freshman and it was still very manageable because the notes are written by him and he allows you ask any questions, etc. Also, his assistant who comes in to teach is very knowledgable in the field and offers tutoring to students who need help.
awesome class! SO interesting. potentially a difficult subject, but prof melloni is such an effective teacher it was a breeze. the assistant teacher that comes in a lot, lesley, is also cool. both very knowledgable and pretty funny. highly recommended!
This man is the love of my life hehhee but seriously... The class is great.
Really intelligent guy, he def knows what he's talking about and his lectures keep you awake. The material itself isn't that easy but it's still really interesting, and he makes everything easy to understand. Easy grade if you study!
This class was team-taught with Lesley Ricci, and they were both great. Very interesting, gives lots of examples. I had zero bio background, so it was the most difficult class I have taken at NU, and he made it much easier to understand. I heard that students with bio background found it easy, though.
This is a great class and I found dr melloni to be very clear, although some students think he goes fast. His powerpoints have everything you need to know already on them.
With a science background, easy A. Very interesting and fun. 3 exams. Can skip final if ave of first 2 is 95. Melloni is impossible to get a hold of outside of class
Professor is a great teacher and really funny. He'll keep you paying attention to the entire lecture, he's not boring at all. He gives you the notes, there is no textbook. You just have to understand/memorize them. His test questions are straight from the text. They are mostly multiple choice questions and a few matching. He's AWESOME!GO TO CLASS!
all slides used in class are available online...tough class, but if you put in the study time you can pull off a good grade. dont need extensive background in biology
I don't have a good background in Bio which made this class challenging, but I also have never been this interested in going to class. I'm going to take all the classes he teaches.
he is okay, he makes everything really clear and is a good teacher. he is also a very busy man, who is doing tons of research so you won't get a lot of one on one time with him. his tests aren't easy but there are not surprises just make sure you know EVERYTHING on the slides
Really enjoyed going to this class and found it very interesting. Its not the easiest class, but its worth it. My piece of advice would be to go online and by the text book that the class is based on, it costs $2 and explains everything with color pictures.
Dr. Melloni is amazing. The class is really interesting, exams are a little challenging, but if you average a 94 on the first 2, you can skip the final. He is super ridiculously smart - pretty much knows everything about everything, except what happens when you eat a jalapeno..hah. There's no textbook, class only meets 2x a week, and fun lectures!
He's an awesome, funny guy and he's on top of his game. He's a BIG **** if you seek help outside of class, or ask dumb questions. Essentially if you do your part, he'll do his. Don't look for an easy way out. The class is a joke if you're a BNS student. The exams are legitimately right from the slides.
Really interesting class. It's straight forward and pure memorization. I loved having no text book. Melloni knows a lot about neuroscience and makes it very evident. He's a good guy, I envy his knowledge. Memorize the slides and the exams will be a breeze.
One of my favorite classes at Northeastern! Professor Melloni knows just about everything about Psychobiology but he can be a little condesending if you ask stupid questions, don't come to class, or aren't paying attention. I loved his teaching style, no textbook and the students print out his slides to bring to class and take notes on.
He is very passionate about what he teaches and definitely knows his stuff. There's no textbook, so you need to show up to class. I tend to fall asleep when he goes off on a tangent because someone asked irrelevant questions, but the information is very interesting, so it's great most of the time.
Easy class. I skipped most of the lectures and did very well. You just need to memorize the slides he asks you to print out. Don't ask dumb questions. He's also very hard to get a hold of so if you have a question ask him after class.
Great class, the information is interesting and Melloni is engaging when he teachers, made me want to go to class. He clearly knows what he's talking about. Highly recommend!
Very interesting class although the first sections can be boring. One thing I found is that although this class is HUGE at 200+ students, Melloni manages it very well and engages the entire class with a conversation-style lecture. Exams could be a bit tough but are manageable and he's very helpful if you need any sort of clarification.
He is a great professor! He doesn't use a textbook, so you have to go to class to get the notes. He makes his powerpoints available online so you can print them out. He answers all questions very clearly and makes sure that people are understanding the material as class goes on. He lets you out early most of the time, too! :)
LOVED THIS CLASS! If anyone is really interested in the biology part of psychology take this class. Professor Melloni is an amazing professor and makes the class extremely interesting. HIGHLY recommend this class.
Loved the class. Interesting material. Easy tests. Eliminates questions no one gets right. No book. Explains everything in depth. I would take another class with him in a second.
Great teacher! Really enthusiastic and knowledgeable. He really gets the class involved and tries to make lectures engaging. He doesn't use a textbook and everything from the slides are on the tests. I would highly recommend him!
Amazing professor and a great guy. Fascinating material. He always made the extra effort to answer someone's question and made sure the class understood. His tests were straightforward.
Your entire grade is based off 3 exams, but then he drops the lowest grade so it's really 2 EXAMS... 50% each. That's just insane. I feel bad for all the other people like me who get test anxiety and don't perform well that way. Hardest class, but coolest material. Fascinating! I suggest getting a tutor... don't expect ANY help from him at ALL.
Really interesting and engaging lectures. He's super smart. Tests are straight forward, all materials from the slides. Provides slides with great notes. Fun class.
VERY difficult class. Dr. Melloni is not available for help, and not interested. He goes over an INSANE amount of material, and doesn't have much patience for questions. No book; material is entirely based off his PowerPoints. 3 tests per semester, and he drops the lowest score, so each of the two remaining tests 50% of your grade. NEVER AGAIN!!!
Each lecture throws a lot of information at you, but it is presented clearly. There is a lot to learn, but Professor Melloni will answer your questions. The tests are pretty tough, you definitely have to study, but it is nothing he hasn't covered in lecture. The PowerPoints are comprehensive and the lecture notes are essential.
The tests are not very fair. He sometimes writes questions that are clearly not covered in the slides. Also, he rounds down: if you have a 89.7 on a test, that becomes a 89. It makes a difference in the final grade.
He will bend over backwards for a student. People saying he wont help outside of class are too timid to get the help. He treats students with the same respect that the student give to him, very much like a real world boss. go to him with specific questions and he wont let you leave his office until you 100% understand. BNS/psych: TAKE HIS CLASSES!!
His tests are not very fair, sometimes they are on very minor details he skimmed in class, and he rounds down. However, I did learn a lot and I don't regret taking the class. If you study hard (AKA memorize the slides and read the book) then you will be fine.
Professor Melloni is by far my most favorite teacher that I've taken. His powerpoint lectures are very straight forward and clear, and the discussions in class are very knowledgable. He's pretty funny, and as long as you go to class, you should at least get a B or higher. His tests are straightforward with no trick questions, but still hard.
Professor Melloni was great. Tests won't trick you if you are prepared (read the book to clarify power points) and is fair about giving points back if most of the class struggled on a question or two. He drops the lowest exam grade which wasn't on the syllabus. Overall, I would take a class with him again and recommend him to others.
Had Spring 2020, so half online. Only graded by tests, which are 65 multiple choice questions and included info from the textbook as well. Overall vibe: good guy, wants you to succeed, has some favorites but u can go unnoticed if u want, jokes around, has a lab & teaches medical students. A LOT of information. Have a good note-taking system.
Professor melloni is such a great lecturer, makes sure we understand the material and willing to go in depth with any questions we had Goes over clinical applications of everything (he taught medical students) Passionate about the course material Tests are fair and he boosts your final grade if you participate a lot
professor melloni's class was super fun. grade is determined by 4 exams. exams are all multiple choice and not hard as long as you go to class and take notes. he does offer extra credit for participation, so make sure to ask questions during class
professor melloni is one of the most compassionate and considerate professors i have had. he makes sure that everyone understands each topic before moving on. he opens a for students to then critique his test/teaching format to make sure we are getting the most out of the class. 5 exams, MC, online, open note, but timed so study b4. flashcards help
I really enjoyed taking this class with Professor Melloni. He is very passionate during his lectures and takes the time to answer questions. This class covers a lot to find what you are passionate about in psych. The only thing is your entire grade is based off of 5 exams, but you definitely feel prepared for all of them.
Super passionate about what he's teaching and also very understanding. I definitely enjoyed the class
- 5 tests in all: all are online and you do not have to be in the room during the test - he makes the toughest topics seem so easy - his grading is fair: if you mess up, then it is entirely your fault - he is reasonable with his test dates: a week after the content is done (btw it is not cumulative) - I highly recommend him
Dr. Melloni does an excellent job of simplifying complex topics and makes lectures interesting, however he isn't very responsive and there were somme errors on ever test.
Dr. Melloni is very caring and simplifies complex anatomy for the undergrad level, however is pretty unresponsive and there are errors are many tests.
This class is difficult so it's important you go to all of the lectures, but Professor Melloni is truly one of the kindest, most accommodating professors I have had. Great teacher and person
Super interesting lectures + course material. Cares a lot about what he's teaching. Very funny + engaging. Questions on tests are sometimes confusing, but he goes back and gives pts back for problems a lot of ppl got wrong. Tests were all online - even final. Ends class early a lot
I had Melloni for 3 classes, clinical neuro, biopsych, and psychopharm. I loved him for every one of these classes. He's such a funny guy, and will answer any question with enthusiasm. For all these classes, he had around 4-5 tests through the semester, either open note or open note + take home. No cumulative midterm or final.
Psychopharmacology: 4 online exams (open note + book). Some questions are from textbook readings, not in lectures. 50-60 question exams in a little over an hour (but final was 2 hours).
Good lectures and nice guy. Four online tests about 40-60 questions each. Exams had some tricker questions but overall not bad. The content was very interesting
Melloni is the man!! Genuinely a GOOD lecturer. Grades are entirely the average of five multiple-choice exams on Canvas, and the final is just the 5th exam. Would give points back if he felt an exam question wasn't fair. Likes to end classes early too. Take his class if you actually want to learn something and also get an A without too much effort!
Professor Melloni is a great lecturer! He explains neuro in detail and goes over and over challenging topics. Great at answering questions. Lectures almost always end early bc some of the material is heavy. 5 exams including the final that's not cumulative. Ended up dropping the lowest grade. All exams are mc, online, open note but time-limited.
Dr. Melloni is one of the best professors I've ever had, his lectures are very interesting and he perfectly breaks concepts down so that they're better understood. Your grade is entirely dependent on 5 take home open note tests and he is likely to drop your lowest of the 5, plus your "final" isn't cumulative its simply the last test.
Attendance is mandatory if you want to do well, he is a phenomenal professor and I have learned so much from him! He is hilarious, interesting, and engaging. His exams can be scary but you just have to study hard and write questions for him as you review, because he will answer them very thoroughly and always help you when you need it!
TAKE THIS CLASS best teacher i've ever had the lectures are so interesting he knows EVERYTHING about neuroscience and the content we do is really interesting. theres 4 or 5 exams over the semester that are only on the recent topic you did (not cumulative) and they are online. the exam average is usually a 90. TAKE THIS CLASS ITS THE BEST THING EVER
TAKE HIM!!!
Melloni is the goat. All tests online, take-home, and if you go to class you'll do just fine. He does a great job breaking down the hardest units into simple terms. And he teaches the big 3- Neuro, Psychopharm, and Biopsych.
Prof Melloni honestly made me even more passionate about neuroscience and medicine than before. He taught in medical school and is amazing at simplifying complex neuroanatomy topics. 5 exams all taken online/open note but they can be difficult--final is not cumulative. He really cares about his students and almost everyone loves his classes. 10/10
Best professor in the psych department and it's not even close. If you're a pre-med major you need to take his class. He teaches all 3 major BNS courses - biopsych, psychopharm, and neuroanatomy. Great lectures, actually cares about the students, and tests are online take home (still difficult though). Makes even the hardest topics make sense. Goat
actually the goat. he simplified neuroanatomy down so well, which is def not an easy task. attendance isn't mandatory and he does post zoom recordings of his lectures, but i would still go to class or watch the recordings because the lectures are super helpful. grade is made up of 5 exams, he ended up dropping the lowest exam score!
You can tell he really likes the subject when he's teaching and he explains complicated concepts in a really clear way!! Your grade just depends on how well you do on your exams but your exams are all online AND multiple choice/matching!
Really interesting class. The only thing is that you are graded by only exams--no other assignments. This means if you do badly on one, you're cooked (happened to me :( ). I also found one or two of the exams pretty difficult. Overall, would recommend, just lock in and don't neglect studying!
Melloni was great for neuroanatomy. Our tests were take-home, which saves you for this class, because it would have been so much harder otherwise. Exams weren't too bad (the spinal cord one was the worst), he posts almost all the lectures on Canvas, and I think he ended up dropping the lowest exam grade. Grade is made up of only 5 exams.
Amazing amazing prof and person. Lectures were interesting and engaging. Your grade is made up of 5 open-note online tests. Is flexible and understanding, open to rounding grades. Take him!!!
