I dreaded doing a speech class but he made it pretty interesting. He will help you figure out a speech topic if you ask. his quizzes are easy,all you have to do is study the flashcards and multiple choice quastions online. I highly recommend him. great teacher

He was Great! Makes sure to let you know exactly what you need to know. Quizzes each week, but that is helpful with studying for the final & averaging out the grade. He has a lot of knowledge & makes the class interesting. Thumbs Up!

He is super nice and makes class fun. I'm upset that he doesn't teach much else that I can take. I'd totally reccomend him.

The class was easy. Giving speeches sucks though, but since it is a communication class you have to give them. There wasn't much to it. Very easy if you have other classes!

He's a very good teacher. The work load depends on you though, if you prepare you'll do good but if you put it off he can tell. Other than that his quizzes are easy and come from practice quizzes online. I'd say take him, he made speech a little more bearable.

Nobody likes to give speeches. But Mercadante helped make it a little bit more manageable. He grades very fairly and does not overload you with work. If you have to take speech, he is a good teacher for it. Good luck!

Good, straight-forward teacher. He conducts the class in a manner that encourages his students to give their best effort. Gives some extra credit along the way which is a help because he doesn't cut you much slack on the speeches. Overall, a good man with a decent sense of humor. Would recommend to anybody.

Great teacher! Everyone dreads this class and he made it alot of fun! Not near as bad as I thought it would be. Really knows what he is talking about and by the end of the class public speaking was no big things.

He is very helpful. Gives you instruction of how to have good speeches and he always gives an example speech. You will use your text - there is a quiz every class unless you have a speech due. Great Teacher!!!

good teacher, fun class tests werent very hard but he graded the speeches with perfection i never got higher then a C on any speeches and they were good speeches he made speech easier then i thought it would be

This professor is great. Is is clear about what he wants and he is also very entertaining. Even though you have to get up in front of the class to speak, thats what the class is. Hes great.

he is very clear about what the expectations are. He makes it fun and I have actually used what I learned in his class in my BSN classes and it has helped tremendously. He is a fair teacher, just do what he expects and you will do well. Oh HINT....take the online quizes and you will do well on his quizes!!

This guy is GREAT! He is def one of the best professors I have ever had. Mercadante always has an open door(literally) and is always available for questions and advice. His quizes are easy and if you study from the textbook website like he suggests there is no reason not to get 100% on all. He def has his students best interest at heart!

Mr. Mercandante is the BEST speech teacher! All that is required is Active Listing skills. He spells everything out on his sylabus, and is extremely organized. Mr.Mercadante is a great professor! He's very clear on what he has to say and follows the syllabus. If you attend class regularly, do your speeches and practice, you will do fine! Take the practice quizzes online and you will do fine on the tests! 11 mult choice always!

i took him for public speaking and he is a super hard teacher. his quizes are easy but are only worth like 10 or 20 percent of your grade. he is a hard grader and hardly gives A's. i would not recommend him especially if you have stagefright

What a terrific teacher! Grades speeches well, just make sure to practice a lot. Every component is worth ten percent and he offers makeup speeches too. Helped me become a better public speaker. Funny and approachable, I totally recommend him!

This guy is a great teacher to take for SPC1600. The class is a pretty easy A if you are not a total moron. With every assignment, he spells it out exactly how he wants it and if you follow his directions you'll get an A. The three speeches are difficult to get A's on, but they are only worth 10% of your grade each. I would take his class again.

Mr. Mercadante is a great teacher and above all a GREAT GUY! He's approachable, willing to help, and very funny. There are 4 speeches as long as you genuinely try your best, you'll do great. Critique essays for each speech which are a breeze. The quizzes are very easy and straight from the book's website (USE IT!)GREAT CLASS & GREAT TEACHER!!!

Very straight forward professor. Do the speeches, get good grades. A little hint as well, don't use a note card during your speech and you will get a hundred for that section. Very great guy!

Great Professor!!! Extremely organized. No surprises--sticks to the syllabus, which he reviews each week. Clear instruction, quizzes are open book, tests have a website study guide. Very helpful when you need advice. Very friendly and he seems to actually enjoy teaching the class. Made Public Speaking bearable. Highly Recommended!!

I love him! He is an excellent speaker and makes his lectures interesting. He uses powerpoints, so it is easy to take notes. Easy grader and very nice.

He is my favorite! He is very organized, easily connects with his students and is always quick to respond. He makes the class fun and his lectures are to the point. He can be a little harsh on grading, but I highly recommend him!

Mr M is great!!!! I was so nervous about this class and i have to take it but he makes it easy. I would recommend taking over the summer so its only 8 weeks long not 16. YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS or you will fail but other than that hes great. Blended class is fun. Quizzes are tricky but essay are easy just follow his guidelines and you will do good

this class is scary but Mr M makes it easier. He gives you every opportunity to do well. Quizzes are tricky, essay are simple and there is 8 extra credit points available. Take him over the 8 weeks not 16 its much easier.

Mr. Mercadante is AWESOME! He is hilarious and makes class fun! He knows his stuff down to a T. If you ask him to give a impromptu speech with 3min to prepare, he will blow everyone else's speeches out of the water!! Take him, so worth it!

Mercadante is the best prof. ever he is very helpful in all ways possible. Make sure that you dress professionally while giving a speech he will mark you down for that! He is a tough grader when it comes to speeches but everything else is cake.

I was a really nervous speaker when i began this class and started off with low B speeches but by the end improved to be an A speaker! He puts you at ease.funny guy. take the blended, it's easy. Make sure to dress well for speeches because he'll mark you off if you don't. write the full 2 pages for the critiques and you should get A's on them.

He is awesome. Easy class with clear assignments. He really gives you awesome feedback on your speeches. Show up, speak and do the work and you will be fine.

I took SPCHonors and got an A. I have hated public speaking my whole life, but thanks to Mr. Mercadante I now like doing it and know how to accurately present in front of others. There are 4 speeches all 3-5 min and you are allowed a powerpoint pres. and one notecard. They are a breeze. If you take this class you will learn so much!

I had him as an IDS professor for two semesters so it was speech and philosophy combined. The class itself is a lot of work but he is always clear with assignments and is very willing to help you.

Great instructor! I was very distressed at having to take a speech class but Mr. Mercadante made it pretty painless. You do have to take weekly quizes and write a few papers but they are relatively easy and he spells out directly what he wants. I would definitely recomend takine this instructor! :)

Very clear and specific on what he wants and expects. The hardest part is making your speech long enough to last required time so talk slow. And dont forget to dress professionally, not even black jeans or fancy flip flops. He expects excitement and preparedness and expects improvement. I got a "b" so you will B fine.

His directions are very clear as he familiarizes you with what he expects. This was not an easy course though, he is very specific while grading you when you present and takes points off for seemingly little things. Class average on the speeches was consistently at a low D or F. If you're looking for an easy grade, would NOT recommend this teacher.

don't say "um" more than twice or he takes off points. he wants you to talk to the class like their your bffs. and he expects you to memorize your speech to some degree. use visual aids during speeches they help. quizzes/essays are easy.

The professor is professional!:) Gives plenty of opportunity to get extra points (read the additional books and they help you to get extra 2% each on final). He forgives 1 worse online quiz and let you to redo 1 speech. But BE on time with your homework! Dont wait till its due!

He teaches professionally and well and expects you to be a college level student. This is a vital class (Speech) and one should get a lot out of this class that is helpful in life IF you put yourself into the work. I improved dramatically as a result of this class and promptly landed a job paying me 25% more weekly thanks to his keen observation.

Awesome teacher. I don't know anyone that doesn't like this guy. Extremely intelligent and very amicable. He does expect you to be at a college level-his grading on speeches, as well as the book content, definitely refelct that. However,grading is very fair and he gives you great exam review sheet.

He is a great guy, but he is inconsistent with angel. The assignments were never online like he said they would be. He wouldn't email them out when he said he would. We had assignments get pushed back because he didn't open something on angel. And email? Forget it. I loved him in class and he's a great guy, but not computer literate at all.

Took a blended class of his. He is rather fair in his grading and helpful when it comes to questions. You have to do three speeches in the class, the first is always the most difficult but if you take what he says you'll improve greatly. There were online quiz's but none were all that hard.

This was my first Blended class. I really enjoyed the class and felt that Dr. Mercandante did a great job teaching the class. He was very informative and it was easy to understand everything.

This professor is very fair in grading papers and speeches. He really is an excellent teacher. I found him very helpful and always responded to me when I reached out for help.

I took both IDS 1101 and 1102 and absolutely loved the professors. In both courses, professor Mercadante gave great lectures and had very helpful study guides for his tests. They're all multiple choice but he does try to trick his students. As long as you listen well and read the text, it's a breeze. He's always very helpful and kind.

He's tough, but fair. I was in his honors class. I thoroughly enjoyed his lectures. I didn't always agree with his point of view, but he certainly made me look at things differently. He also made time for me and gave me great advice and feedback on my speeches and papers. I have great respect for Professor Mercadante.

Dr. Mercadante was a fabulous teacher and I personally believe that my public speaking skills increased tenfold from his class. Dr. Mercadante had very clear expectations for the entire speech and gave amazing feedback. You are graded on a number of areas which are totaled at the end for your speech grade. Even the impromptu speech was a blast!

I took Intro to Speech with Mr. Mercadante. While he certainly knows his stuff, I feel he took the class way too seriously and graded far too hard. This is a prereq type class and no one really WANTS to take speech. I think he could go easier on student speeches since most are not communication majors but simply doing it for a required credit.

I took him for Honors Cornerstone, so your experience may differ wildly depending on what you take him for. The class is so damn easy. There are three short papers and a presentation. There were five other students in my class and the environment was friendly. The professor is very smart, friendly, and open-minded. It is a seminar, so participate.

Great class for honors geniuses. Prof. mentors you through honors program, life goals, and success in college. Great opportunity to develop many skills. Class tough but seems EZ as he works with you, real gentleman and philosopher. Take notes, participate! End up with great post-class reading, contacts.

Cornerstone was an easy and laid back class. I think Dr. Mercadante is odd but most people like him. Sometimes I couldn't tell if he was is in a good mood or bad. Just do it.

I really enjoyed Professor Mercadante's class! I took blended speech over the summer with him and the class really helped me get though public speaking. He has very interesting lectures and excellent viewpoints on Power Points. I would highly recommend taking his class!

Professor Mercadante is without a doubt one of my favorite professors. He's a kind and caring person who's reasonable when it comes to grading. If something happens in your life that makes everything ( both academic and non-academic) difficult, he's incredibly understanding and works with you to make sure you still do well in the class.

This professor is one of my favorite professors I have ever had. Speech is such a scary class but he makes it so much easier. He is very interactive with the class. Offers extra credit and is there if you need help. I took a blended (1/2 in class and 1/2 online) class which was easy. Highly recommended professor.

This is like a philosophy class on applied ethics--self-reflection, life goals, etc. along with getting the basics down to be an Honors student. Prof. Mercadante is a brilliant man, and much of that is getting you in tune anew with your own strengths. Useful reflection papers, practical info, fabulous class participation. Take all his classes! MG

Maybe the best lecturer in Florida. I had him for 2 semesters and he persuasively argued for every philosopher from the pre-socratics to phenomenologist. Also after having him critique my speeches and papers, every following one has been easy.

Loved this speech class. Professor Mercadante was passionate about his topic, so his class was very interesting. He gave great feedback for speeches and was always quick to respond to emails. Very much enjoyed this class. Would take again.

I took him half online and half in class so speeches were in class but 1 weekly quiz was due Monday nights online and gives awesome feedback on speeches and gives a chance to redo your worst speech at the end of the semester and drops lowest quiz grade. would forsure take him again

Professor Mercadante was fair if you put in the effort to write and perform a decent speech. It was easy enough because you just have to submit a recording of you performing your speech while just doing exactly what he clearly states he will grade you on.

Dr. Mercadante was nothing less than respectful and caring towards his students in and outside of lectures. The grading criteria was always clear and he was always available outside of class to clarify the few miscommunications that occurred. Definitely recommend taking him for Public Speaking and I will personally be taking him again soon!

While he is very nice and understanding when it comes to class work and helping you understand what is going on, I think he is a little harsh on grading speeches. A lot of people are only taking this course because it is required, like I am doing. There are 3 speeches, 3 essays, and a quiz on each chapter. Overall, he is a great teacher just harsh.

This class is heavy on work, 3 speeches, 3critiques essays, you have to read an entire textbook with multiple chapter tests every week & 100 question final over the textbook at the end of term. He grades hard & never gives 100% when grading, even when he has only positive feedback , so it leaves you wondering what you could have done to get 100%

VERY tough grader. I have learned but, despite killing myself and creating and delivering REALLY good speeches, he will NOT by any means give me an A, no matter how har I try! (I am a straight A student in every other class). Im sorry, students should get rewarded for their good work.

I enjoyed Professor Mercadantes class. This was my first Honors course. Which made me nervous. He made the class more comfortable with amazing tips and advice. I thought he was going to be super strict and uptight, but I thought wrong. He made the class seem more relaxed but still had high expectations as would any college professor would.

Lectures are very useful and while a text book is referenced in the class it's not really necessary. Three speeches throughout the semester: informative, epideictic, and persuasive. Nearly impossible to get a 100, but with practice a 95+ is easily attainable. Provides amazing feedback for each speech on different components. Provides time cards.

Dr. Mercadante was a wonderful teacher with a warm, inviting approach to what can be an anxiety inducing subject. His use of PowerPoint to punctuate lecture topics was informative and often hilarious. Public speaking is an important tool and Dr. M gives you all the tools you need to feel confident in your ability to speak to a crowd.

I loved this professor so much. I wish I could take his public speaking class 1000 times over. There are 3 speeches and 3 papers. He offers speech make up days and has quite a few classes with optional attendance. I was so scared to get up in from of the class and speak initially but I left the class loving to do it. This class benighted my life.

For my first ever college class, this was an awesome that I would retake 1000%. Great teacher, obviously loves his job & is passionate abt the subject. 3 speeches + 3 critique essays (1 after each speech). Criteria is super clear, speeches are graded on a rubric that you're given after your speech with notes of improvement/strong areas. 10/10

His feedback on the speeches you'll give to the class is very detailed and easy to understand. This isn't a hard class, just follow his instructions and you'll easily get above a 90.

I loved this professor, he really made sure you were comfortable presenting a speech. We had three speeches throughout the semester, and he offers a LOT of optional classes for one-on-one help with your speech. As long as you participate and keep up with the due dates and quizzes, he's AMAZING! He also has an amazing personality.

I loved taking this class! Professor Mercadante was so nice and caring! He is very understanding, and the material is easy to follow along with and understand. He grades very quickly and fairly. As long as you do the assignments and keep up with it all, this class is incredibley easy to pass.
