Horrible teacher! You will sit in class and listen to him lecture...there are never any discussions. This is my least favorite class that I have taken here and I am a senior, so thats pretty bad. Boring.
Class is boring, but really easy. I'm pretty sure 90% of our class got A's...someone even got 100 because his tests are cake if you go to class. He comes off as kind of a ****bag at first, but after a while you see he's not so bad. And if you have questions about material we'll spend entire class periods clarifying things.
He is pretty fair and he really likes to hash things out rather than go through the textbook
i came into this class expecting a lot more than i have been given. i haven't understood a single word he has said all semester, yet i still have an A in the class. i just wouldn't take him if i could do this over again.
he swore a lot in class. but i think the stuff he taught was more interesting than learning about all these popes and bishops and stuff. his tests and stuff are pretty easy, and really easy grader. but his class can get pretty boring, very easy to fall asleep in.
Lectures most days. Assigns 5 papers, each of which is an easy A (summarizing text and opinion papers). First 3 tests are pretty straight forward; questions come directly from the notes/powerpoints. The final is an essay that requires a lot of memorization. Overall, this class won't interest many, but he was an easy A in my opinion.
really fun class i loved it. he knows his stuff, and if u try to put ur opinion out there with no backup he'll make u feel really stupid. tests r super easy, and hes a really easy grader on the papers
Miller is such a good guy. I had never taken a Theology class in my life before his, and I have really liked it. He doesnt teach "real" theology, he takes a hard core philosophical approach. His class is really boring, but you never ever have homework and the tests are the easiest things in the world. I would take his class again in a heartbeat
at first i was sooo confused but if you give it just a little effort.. what he teaches is REALLY interesting. i was expecting to read the bible and talk about it but this class was the opposite of that and i that's why i loved it! really easy to get an A.

I loved him! He takes a really advaced approach to theology but he really explains it really well. He tells you exactly what is going to be on the tests and if you fail the test, you are an idiot. If you listen to the lectures and ask questions, you will do great! Take him, i loved him!
The class seems more philosophical than religious, but if you listen in class it is actually relatively easy.
Interesting lectures, lively class discussions. He offers many extra credit opportunities. The final requires a lot of memorization, but he lays out exactly what's on it. Easy A if you don't sleep in class or fall behind. Take him for THL 100
Very easy if you pay attention and take time to study, if not it can be hard because some tests are strictly essay tests. He gives you the tests beforehand, so you just have to memorize the study guide to do well. The class is probably the best upper level theology class that fills the core requirement.
Treats the class like freshmen - in high school. Attendance is mandatory but no laptops! He explains simple concepts well beyond what is necessary. I've actually enjoyed theology classes in the past, but this is definitely the worst I've taken. He's arrogant, uninteresting and terribly unfunny. AVOID!
Super educated man, knows a lot about what he teaches. He is really nice but kind of spacey. Make sure you go to class and are prepared and you will do well in the class.
I love this theology class. My previous theology and I got C's in both even though I worked my ass off. But I love this class, he makes it so intriguing and interesting. He said the essay tests are the toughest and most difficult but I got an A on both of them, he grades really easy. I recommend him to those who hate taking theology.
The first day of class he seemed to be hard, but actually he was one of the easiest A's Ive earned up at Creighton. Don't really use the textbooks that much he just gives you handouts which he goes over. He repeats things in class a lot so it's easy to remember on the test. 5 papers 2 pages long.
I took this class because i thought it would be easy, nope! his tests the questions have so many words it's so hard to figure out what he's really asking. the 5 2 pg papers are extremely easy, attendance mandatory, i would not take him again. he's sweet if you ask for help, but the tests are hard.
miller is a great guy. easy grader. got 5 two page papers. tests are straight forward. easy multiple choice. nothing tricky. lectures are dry, but very easy class. i literally slept during class and still got an A. i'd rather take him again than endure another professor. as long as you do what you are suppose to do, it is easy to get a B+ or an A.
Dr. Miller is a very interesting teacher. He cusses, loves debates and questions, and looks like a typical professor. I learned alot in his class. He encourages students to think for themselves. If you pay attention in class it's easy. Oh and ask questions because he LOVES questions!
Very good prof! When he tells you what to study and when, do it! It will make your life easier. Not too difficult of a class, but I have learned more in this theology class than in any theology class I've ever taken. I thought most of the lectures were interesting. He makes a funny every now and then, but he doesnt try to be funny. he just is :P
Excellent professor. Lays out exactly what is on each test. He is constantly reviewing the material being presented. Very nice and willing to help students. Can be funny at times, but class is boring. Overall, it is an easy class but you learn the material.
this is the best theology class i have ever taken. you have to go to class but i found the discussion fun and helpful. i would go into the class with a very pessimistic confused mind and by the end of his lecture i was happy and had everything figured out. he is so down to earth, nice and brings the material to a level students can enjoy! take him!
Boring but easy. Argue about whatever random topic he's talking about and he'll like you.
Tests are pretty simple if you memorize class notes and power points. There are 5 papers, all of which are pretty simple and he seems to give a hundred just for doing. Attendance is required, and class is extremely dry. He pushes his views quite a bit and does not seem to be open to others.
This class is extremely easy if you memorize the basic ideas about each topic that he teaches. I never had theology of any kind prior to this class so I found it interesting, but some classes were really dry. Tests were easy if you put in effort, and participation in discussions is not really required.
Dr. Miller's theology class is extremely easy - even for someone who had never taken theology before. He's a funny, eccentric guy, and he explains things very clearly. The class may have been really easy, but it still teaches a lot and isn't complete torture to sit through. It does kind of suck, though, that you can't bring computers to class.
Really easy class. Test are fair. Very repetitive so it is easy to remember things. I brought my laptop to class so i dont know what everyone else is talking about. Couple essays but you get 100% on all of them. Excellent teacher!
Amazing professor! Probably my favorite class in all of college. The material and discussions are interesting and thought-provoking. I honestly didn't want the semester to end with him! Easy grader on the papers and tests aren't bad at all. Couldn't ask for a better teacher
The class is almost completely lecture-based and he doesn't teach anything from the book. His lectures get a little long, but he really tries to keep them interesting. 5 simple papers that he grades really easily and simple true-false tests. Easy A if you study the notes/powerpoints and pay attention in class.
Easy A if you memorize the powerpoints and take notes on his lectures. The 5 writing assignments are easy and he pretty much gives you 100 for just doing them. Tests are true or false except for the final which includes an essay (he may make it a take-home). Too much text readings that only matter on 2nd test and final test.
Class is very boring to start off with, but gets better during the semester. Helped me think deeply about myself and my faith. Caring professor, eccentric and interesting. Try to speak up in class! I recommend him.
Very nice guy, keeps discussion fairly interesting for such a boring topic, definetly one of the better theology teachers you can take at creighton the rest are AWFUL. The workload is super light at first and gets really bad at the end so start early and you'll do fine. I'd recommend him to a friend
Very boring class. So hard to stay awake but really easy. If you pay attention in class, you shouldn't need to study for tests. However, I found his teaching a terrible approach to theology. Completely de-personalizes faith. Didn't help with my relationship with God at all. Barely even associate the class and my faith.
Dr. Miller's class is pretty laid back. 5 papers, attendance, and 4 tests- that's it! Go to class, pay attention in class, do the papers, and you're assured at least a "B" without even doing the nightly reading assignments. if you want an "A", you must read for each class and study notes a few times a week. Take him! p.s. he's also very funny!
Semi-easy class, but here's the kicker: he's nice enough, but admits to being an "ex"-atheist and doesnâ??t believe the Bible is the actual WORD of GOD. He has an obsession with man-made global warming too. We had to watch a 3-hour lecture about it. And write a paper. So, if you want an easy class, go for it. If you want to learn theology, stay away.
Pretty easy class. 6 written assignments, 4 tests, and attendance is mandatory. The only thing is that he is pretty focused on global warming, and I'm still not sure how it related to theology. So if you want an easy class, take him. But if you want a real theology class, try finding a different professor
His tests were really easy - I'd suggest not reading those articles he posts up as they definitely won't be on the tests at all. Do be prepared to talk about global warming in his class - he actually takes class periods to address the issue to the class, which is pretty weird considering that this is a religion class.
He's a decent professor. Class is mandatory, but really easy. Easy if you put the work in.
I am pre-med so I don't plan on studying theology in great depth. However, I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Miller's class! As long as you go to class and take notes/study the powerpoints you are guaranteed an A. There are about 6 written assignments throughout the semester but they are manageable. Tests are very straightforward. No homework. Take him!!!
I don't know why people say he is easy. He is not easy. The lectures are confusing and long with as much material crammed in them as possible. Tests are true and false only. Papers are easy 100s but don't count for much of the overall grade. I worked very hard for my A.
Professor is obsessed with global warming; even if your course does not pertain to global warming he will find a way to bring it into lecture. Dr. Miller expects you to do an impossible amount of reading to do for a lecture. This class will kill you even if it is a entry 100 level course. Stay away from Miller if you care about your GPA.
Tests and quizzes are easy, multiple choice and truefalse, questions show up over and over. Lots of reading but it's easy to skim and get away with it. He is very understanding and nice and willing to work with students. Easy grader. Funny guy with interesting lectures. Must go to class and participate or you will be downgraded.
Lots of reading, a major presentation, and fifteen page paper at the end of the semester. Did not feel like a 100 level course for freshman at all. Professor Miller is also extremely boring and his classes typically consist of long-winded, dull lectures. He is very disorganized and does not help his students much. Not easy and would not recommend!
Professor Miller is obsessed with global warming and will do his best to influence you into the same. He expects you to read five books and quizzes you in class over the material. The class consisted of 3 quizzes, 2 tests, and an 8 page paper, so you must do well on everything to get a good grade. Very hard for an entry level class.
Super passionate about the subject but totally unclear (he changed the syllabus 7 times, sometimes he'll start sentences that go nowhere). He expects you to recite the reading before you go over it, and expects you to memorize like 50 stats for the tests. He seems to be a little distrustful of his students. Don't take him.
He is very helpful !! If you want easy A, choose him!!
Dr. Miller is very passionate about climate change and theology, and he certainly knows everything he talks about. He doesn't have many huge tests or quizzes However, he does expect a ton from his students and assigns at least 2 hours of homework every class period. Overall, a really great man and teacher.
This class should be called anxiety 175. He has random oral recall exercises where he will call on people to talk, in detail, about the readings. The tests were annoying because they were a lot of true false questions with minute details changed. If you love the Earth, though, this is a great class for you.
Favorite teacher, knowledgeable with subject.
Miller is a pretty interesting guy and the content of the course is pretty interesting too relative to other theology classes. Tests are multiple choice and true/false and those aren't that hard. The hard part of the class is the reading and daily quizzes and recall exercises in the 2nd half of the course.
Richard Miller is an excellent professor who is very interested in his field of study. I took him for Human Induced Climate Change and had a wonderful experience.
Dr. Miller is incredibly knowledgeable and interesting, however, his teaching style takes some getting used to and can be very challenging. Get ready for lots of readings, pop oral quizzes, and true-or-false test questions. By the end of the semester, I genuinely enjoyed the class, despite the stress and frustration it sometimes caused.
Dr. Miller is certainly a brilliant man. From the very first class, every student in the class had their mind blown. He teaches to various learning types, from audio to visual. He cares about the students in his class, and he will help you get your grade up if you need it, although his class is not that (academically) difficult. He makes you think.
Dr. Miller is very passionate about his field of study in climate change. There are pop quizzes and reading evaluations over the readings so you have to actually read. The tests all build from the quiz questions and previous tests, so study your past answers. Com 101 is paired with the class so you will have to give a speech, big part of your grade
Good teacher that is knowledgeable in theology, but he also pretends like this course is a climate change awareness class. Lots of writing assignments, but if you put some effort in, not too bad. Tests are almost always T/F. Only problem with this prof is that he brings politics into the class, and tends to rip on a certain political position.
Yes, climate change is important, but for most people taking this class, it was because it's a core class. BUT he thinks this is the most important class you're taking and gives a ton of work. He is hardly ever on time. He was literally late to every single class, then expects you to stay past the class time (which is due to HIM being late.
This class requires more effort than you would normally expect of a freshman class, but it thoroughly prepares you for other challenging courses you may take. He is such a passionate professor and the sheer amount of facts he knows just blows my mind. It can be stressful, but only because you want to do well. It's one of my favorite classes ever.
He means well but honestly the guy requires SO MUCH READING and theyre not easy reads_The content is interesting but the amount of work he requires from you is uncalled for and absurd_Quizzes are very frequent too_Its as if he expects us to ONLY study for his class and ignore the others. TL;DR: So much studying and homework for just one class.
Dr. Miller is extremely passionate about the class, and it shows. It is a lot of work for a critical issues course, but it is well worth it. You walk out of class a better and more informed person. Much harder in the second quarter than the first - be prepared for lots of reading. Try to read ahead.
Dr. Miller is a good guy with good intentions. However, the class has a ridiculous amount of reading, and Dr. Miller is very partisan. This class drags along and is monotonous for the most part. Also beware of his many very good friends that he introduces to Warren Buffet that could win a Nobel Prize.
There is A LOT of reading (3ish hours per night), but the class is very interesting. Dr. Miller is very knowledgeable about climate change. If you pay attention and do the reading, it should be fairly easy though.
Dr. Miller is probably one of the most inspiring profs at Creighton. You will learn a TON if you take his class and probably become passionate about something that you weren't before. Pay attention in class and study the day before tests/quizzes and you will get an A. Prof wants you to get an A and also learn about his subject.
Dr. Miller is very passionate about climate change, which makes the class very interesting and easy to take seriously. If you are looking for an easy A don't take this class, but if you seriously want to learn about climate change definitely take it. There is a large amount of lecturing but the slides are all online to access whenever.
If you have the chance, TAKE DR. MILLER! He gives amazing lectures and is passionate about what he teaches his students. HW is only 1-2 hr of reading/ week, gives 4-5 tests about his readings and his lectures (they build on each other and are made to prep you for the following tests and the final), and a presentation about an assigned book section.
I absolutely love Dr. Miller. His lectures are incredibly insightful and often abstract, so they get you thinking. His passionate about the topics he teaches on are inspiring and often move many students to action. If you go to class, listen during lectures, and do the short readings you'll do fine on the tests. I fully plan on taking him again.
If you don't have a strong foundation about Christianity you're screwed. He's passionate about what's he's teaching so his lectures are heavy. You'll either love them or pass out during class. He doesn't care much about how the students are doing in his class. His multiple-choice tests are super tricky. Not accessible outside class at all.
Do not take this course! Miller is passionate about climate change but it is the most boring class I have ever taken at Creighton. You have to study from a 200+ pages powerpoint. He will trick you on every question with dates and percentages. He thinks his class is a high priority so the reading assigned every day is the heaviest I ever received.
Dr. Miller's lectures can often times be very boring but it's easy to understand the material that will be on the test. He repeats the important information like three times before moving on. He has 6 writing assignments that if you put time in you get a 100. His tests aren't too bad if you pay attention in class
If you're looking for an easy A this is not at all the class to take. Miller is a smart guy for sure, but sometimes the things he says just go over everyones head. The guy is liberal to the bone and is obsessed with climate change. Half of the lectures were all about climate change and had nothing to do with the course. You will lose your 4.0 here
Reading wasn't too bad, the course was mostly about the lectures. He was definitely very passionate but at times I was highly confused about what he was talking about. Lots of slides does help and his exams were not bad--mostly true/false. There were 6 writing assignments and I got 100/100 on all by writing a lot and answering the prompt well-ish.
He's a nice guy who is really passionate about his career. Lectures go the full 75 minutes but he gives you a 2 minute break in class. Tests (mostly T/F) make up 80% of your grade so you better prepare. If you do not have a strong foundation in Christianity this class will be hard. I was unexposed to Christianity and lost my 4.0 in this class.
Lectures could get to be pretty boring. Really big final.
He's pretty dry as a lecturer but its not hard to take good notes since he repeats main points several times. Textbook(s) are necessary for class. He was alright I guess, he seems more passionate about the environment than about Theology so consider taking his Environmental class instead.
Lectures are rather boring and hard to maintain attention in. Miller is super passionate about what he does however and talks a lot about the environment which I liked personally. The class was mostly weighted on tests and you will have to use the textbooks and rewatch lectures to study. Overall not super hard but you will need to work for an A.
Dr Miller is passionate about the subject, but seems to be more interested in ranting about it rather than actually teaching about it. The lectures are not engaging and most of your grade consists of 4 quizzes, mostly true/false. Lots of reading, especially in the 2nd half of the course. Doesn't really follow his own syllabus. He's late every day.
Great person, TERRIBLE as a teacher. He makes you do the most for a class that definitely should not be this hard. I had 6 essays on top of a final that was ridiculously long (4-6 paper essay, mc test, and written questions). Does not go along with the class description AT ALL. don't take him
Miller is a wonderful guy, however, a horrible theology teacher. He rants rather than teaches and just assumes the class already knows what he knows. The tests were super hard to follow and worded in a way to make you fail. The Final was extremely hard with so much content, mc,a 5-6 page long written, and a take-home essay. Not really his fault tho
Professor Miller made the class way harder than it needed to be. He had incredibly long powerpoints and made us write about six papers (final not included). As someone whos not religious, I had no idea what I was learning about and it was really hard for me to understand some things, because he expected you to have some background knowledge.
Dr. Miller is a good professor. He is passionate about theology. His final was egregiously long, however. It was a 3-part final that had a 80 question MC, 7 Short essays, and a 6 page take home essay. All 3 parts of the exam were over completely different things (a book we were required to read and the textbook -- both not talked about in class).
Long lecture class with a long and redundant slideshow. Very passionate about what he is teaching but doesn't teach it in a way that makes students learn. Tests and quizzes are very hard and worded very poorly.
Professor Miller is a caring person but not a good teacher. He cares more about climate change than anything else. The lectures will make you fall asleep and the tests are all true or false with at least only 5 multiple choice. We had to write 6 papers during the semester.
Lots of essays and lecture heavy!
I really don't like this guy, as a teacher or professor. his class is just an hour long rant with around 50 pages to read a night (for the second half of the course). He has no problem making rude comments to you, the class is technology free- so be ready to get scolded if you're on your phone or laptop.
Professor Miller is the Grinch.
Dr. Miller is very passionate about his job, but there a much easier theology classes you could be taking. He says a lot in class that you should want to be challenged when spending this much on an education. He is being very lenient in my class by giving everyone a big percentage boost to their grade at the end of the semester, but not to easy
While he may not be the most tech-savvy or the most friendly, he is one hell of a professor. He teaches well, and he makes things very clear. You can tell he is very passionate about the issues he is discussing and he ultimately wants us to make a difference in this world and he is giving us the power to do so.
His class is interesting which helped with some of the difficult readings he assigned. He has high expectations for you to understand complex theological/philosophical concepts, but will answer questions if you somehow find time to ask him during his lectures. His lectures are more like rambles sometimes, but interesting.
Extremely passionate, and lectures are interesting but dense. Gets into theology for the last bit of the class, so be prepared for lectures and very detailed info. He can ramble (sometimes interesting, sometimes existential), but he really does have students' interests in mind and will work with you (EC, tests, review sessions)
Professor Miller is obviously passionate about what he teaches. Please listen to him, and you will succeed in this class. Take very detailed notes. The content is generally interesting, but be prepared to think about your own place in this world. Look at the PowerPoints closely. Read the diving providence readings twice before coming to class.
My firm belief for this class is that you need to come into it willing to accept influence. This is an excellent class if you are dissatisfied with the state of world affairs (pertaining to the climate) as I was - a class I left feeling angry, and motivated. This was a class for contemplation, and for reconciling science with the metaphysical.
This was quite a good class. The first section of the class was big on learning about facts and the science behind the topic and the second half was more about the ethicals. I would highly recommend this class, it definitely changes your perspective. I will warn you that your grade will reflect how hard you work, so be willing to put in effort.
God bless this man, he is so smart but teaching is not his gift. we read so much, lots of essays too. The only redeeming thing was the test, 90 Qs all T/F. the lectures were always all over the place. you definitely wont take much from lectures but show up cause you will lose points if you don't. Don't take him unless its the last option.
He is not tech-savvy and his recorded lectures are all over the place. The good thing about taking it over a break is that he cuts out most of the work, and for extra credit, you have to watch a movie and write about it. The written assignments done over break are easy, but the tests were difficult.
This was a crit issues class, so it was a little different than regular theology. That said, it was a ton of lecturing about statistics about the climate and climate change issues, then quizzes (3) and exams (2) were a ton of multiple choice questions about the random facts he presented. Super passionate about what he taught, just difficult exams.
Don't take Dr. Miller if you can avoid him. He went off topic so many times that it was difficult to follow. Also made us read a textbook that he never taught. Church history at the back half of the semester. I had a lot of Church history background from high school and I still struggled. Avoid at all costs.
He seems like a great guy but his lectures are incredibly boring. Tests are mc/true false but he lies about how many questions there are. The written assignements are the only reason anyone is able to get by in his class because nothing he says in his lectures actually pertain to the test. Try to take someone else if you can
Class was interesting and I got a lot out of it that I did not expect from an entry level theology. However, the tests are scary all multiple choice and true false. In fairness I think I could have done better on some of the tests but Dr. Miller was out of the country for two weeks prior to a test which made it even more difficult.Thl 114Section D
Dr. Miller is a tough professor, but if you want to actually learn something I recommend this course. I wouldn't recommend the two and a half hour section because the content can start to drag. Impelling/interesting content. I recommend if you like the philosophy behind desire, sin, and pushing towards God (THL 114 N).
Good course overall. Not much homework and he gives plenty of time to do it. Tests are somewhat difficult but are passable if you pay attention to the lecture and take notes.
Dr. Miller is extremely intelligent in his field. His classes are very lecture-heavy, and the tests are long and only true/false. The class is graded by 4 exams and 4 papers, which are all very difficult. There are tons of readings to do each week, which is very time-consuming. He was absent a lot this semester, which made it difficult. (THL 114 N)
Great professor, knows what he's talking about and is passionate about his lectures and work. the course is pretty easy, light on the homework - mainly just readings, videos, and four essays that are somewhat a grade-booster. Offers lots of extra credit for those who need it. Exams are mainly T/F, which are easy and multiple choice.
Dr. Miller is a great professor and passionate about what he teaches. The content is straightforward but you have to study for the exams. There are very few things in the grade book. It's all lecture so don't take the evening class if you can't focus for 2.5 hours. Attendance is MANDATORY. Very understanding guy and there's a lot of extra credit.
Dr. Miller is a great professor and passionate about what he teaches. The content is straightforward but you have to study for the exams. There are very few things in the grade book. It's all lecture so don't take the evening class if you can't focus that long. Attendance is MANDATORY. Very understanding guy, a lot of extra credit. THL 114N
Dr. Miller cares a lot about his students and the world we are living in. You will have to put effort in to do well in this class, but you will get out what you put in. It's a difficult class but for this being my first theology class, I learned A TON. He is very passionate about climate change, so if that is important to you definitely reach out!
Professor Miller is very knowledgeable, and very confident in his knowledge. He lectures the whole class and it can get boring and hard to follow at times. He is always 2-3 minutes late and will always keep you for an extra 2-3 minutes after class. section D THL 114
The lectures get long and a little out of order. The good thing is that they are recorded and rewatching them is a very helpful way to study. The exams are all multiple choice/true false but about 90% true false which sometimes is not such a good thing. The written assignments, if completed correctly, you should get full points for.
Mr. Richard Miller is very intelligent!
Most of Dr. Miller's class time was spent by going over the PowerPoints and taking notes on his lecture. His tests are either half MC half T/F, or almost entirely True/False which were often questions with most of the Q right with one part wrong. Test averages: 84, 73, and 80. Grading: 4 tests (75%) 4 written assignments (18%) participation (7%)
Dr. Miller knows a lot about theology but the lectures can get long. The tests can be really long and a lot to know but he is always clear about what is expected. If you follow directions on the writing assignments you should get full points.
Dr. Miller is very intelligent and shows great care for what he talks about. Attendance is expected, and if you show up, ask questions, put in the work, and show respect to him, you will be just fine. If you show up unprepared, you will struggle. His class can sometimes be challenging, but you will be fine if you ask questions and engage. Section D
If you come to class, do extra credits, skim the readings, study the reviews, and write the papers on time, you will do fine. This class has clarified many religious questions I had, and it opened my eyes to the climate crisis; if you are the person that likes to learn more than you want an easy A, I would highly recommend Dr. Millers' course. 114A
Dr. Miller is a great professor who is extremely lecture heavy and also employs some outside reading. There are some written assignments throughout the year that are pretty easy to handle, and the tests are entirely multiple choice but still pretty difficult. I especially recommend taking Dr. Miller if you want to challenge yourself.
Section B: Dr. Miller is deeply passionate about his class and wants his students to learn. He pushes you with readings, T/F tests, and written assignments during the year. He gives many opportunities for extra credit and will help you with a topic. He is very lecture heavy and can sometimes get carried away and is slightly disorganized.
He's a really great teacher and has a good sense of humor but the class is mostly lectures and reading. You need to pay attention and ask questions. I strongly recommend following the syllabus provided to help you maneuver in accordance to the course. it wasn't to bad, Mr. Miller tends to get off track when discussing in lecture but he's great!
If you enjoy the topic of the class you take, you will love his lectures. He really knows what he is talking about and that is beyond evident when he talks. Section D
Section D: He is a lecture heavy professor so be ready for that. He does record lectures for if anyone misses classes so they can go back and watch it on their own time. He cares for his students futures making sure we are prepared for the world. Course is tough.
This class is very lecture heavy and there are a lot of readings. The tests are multiple choice and true/false which can be difficult but you are always prepared with what is expected. Dr. Miller is very passionate about the class topics and is willing to help students. Extra credit opportunities are available. THL114 N
Dr. Miller is a really good guy with the interest of his students at the forefront of his instruction. The class is lecture heavy, points for grades aren't just handed out and there will be some things on the exams that you definitely won't remember going over in class, but he does grade pretty fairly. Uses the word "stunning" to a stunning extent.
Dr. Miller is a good guy with the interest of his students at the forefront of his instruction. The class is lecture heavy, points for grades aren't just handed out and there will be some things on the exams that you definitely won't remember going over in class. He does grade pretty fairly. Uses the word "stunning" to a stunning extent. THL114-D
Dr. Miller is really a good professor. He explains everything very well, but most of the work is dependent on you because you have to read and write a lot for this class. Cramming for the exams will just make you fail the class, so you better study after classes every week
I would highly recommend Professor Miller if you are a beginner in Theology! He made the course material easy to understand and also interesting to learn. Attendance is NOT mandatory and the lectures are very intriguing. He is also very understanding if you need to miss class. 10/10
Dr. Miller will assign a significant amount of reading/video materials over the course of THL 114, which is something you should be prepared for. However, his lectures are insightful and help students understand some of the course's more complicated topics. Overall, Dr. Miller is a skilled professor who is very passionate about his fields of study.
Sec. A- This professor goes on tangents for lectures, making it hard to understand. People who took him in the fall didn't like him, but he reduced the work. He's test heavy and if you dont do well on tests you do poorly in the class. The written assignments have no weight and you work hard on them. He expects his class to be the most important.
Section D This class was SO MUCH WORK. RUN AWAY WHILE U STILL CAN. Be prepared to have a ridiculous amount of reading every night and 12+ page study guides. This professor does not understand that we have other classes outside of this one and is always late to his own class. You will struggle if you don't have basic understanding of religion.
A lot of reading outside of class. The tests are pretty hard too, but he's a smart guy.
Not a bad professor. He gives very long tests and isn't the most accessible outside of class. Often I would need to email multiple times and maybe receive a response. Put some effort into class and show up, and you'll be fine.
He's very lecture-heavy and goes off on confusing tangents. Despite being a very smart individual, he is very busy and difficult to contact. He records lectures, but his exams are tough, and tangents make it hard to rewatch lectures. His material is interesting, and he is a knowledgeable professor but can be difficult to understand.
9 grades: 4 written assignments (18%), 4 exams (75%), and participation (7%). Tests are majority T/F, but still very difficult.
Do not take this class and do not let all of the positive reviews fool you. Richard Miller gives out extra credit at the end of the semester if more than 90% of the class leave a review on his Rate My Professor. Be prepared to read every single night and be prepared to stress over a 14+ page study guide. The lectures are awfully boring. DON'T TAKE!
Tests were 90+ questions with 14 page study guides over the history of Christianity. Lots of reading required. Loves to talk about climate change, which is cool, but not what class I'm taking. Felt like this should've counted for more credits or requirements. Definitely more difficult than the other theology classes. Don't recommend.
This was a difficult class. There is a lot of reading, long tests where you have to know very specific data, and long lectures that are very content heavy. The material itself is pretty interesting and Miller is not a bad teacher as he is very smart and passionate about the content. The biggest thing about this class is the workload.
This is an information-packed class, so it's somewhat difficult, but he is clear with his expectations and does what he can to ensure that you do well. There are six papers, a few tests, and a few quizzes throughout. He warns you of these ahead of time and prepares you for what will be on them. He offers extra credit. He is a passionate professor.
There were many times when the professor went off track. Even though the information had relevance to the course, it ultimately caused the class to fall behind on specific dates mentioned in the syllabus. There is also a lot of reading that needs to be done. It was nice of the professor to inform the students exactly what is on quizzes and exams.
Great, caring professor with detailed study guides, class recordings, and open to questions. Heavy outside readings and videos; not ideal for a heavy course load. Keep up with outside assignments and pay attention in class for desired grades.
The material is engaging but for a magis core class, there is a lot of material to read out of class. If you want an easy A with low work don't take the class but if you are interested and want to really learn what's going on in climate then take the class.
Great teacher and person with lots of knowledge on many topics. I personally enjoyed the tangents he would go on to inform us on real world events and topics. I would only recommend if you are prepared to listen and really absorb the material.
Dr. Miller is a good professor. I would not take a class of his again. However, he is a good teacher and kind. Unfortunately, he is also aloof. Watch out for that side.
He is honestly one of the most interesting teachers at Creighton. His test's are almost all true false which I appreciated.
Very passionate about what he does. Fair amount of writing required but usually graded not too difficult. Quizzes can be hard, but as class goes on you see many of the same questions.
Dr. Miller is very passionate about what he does and prioritizes the students' education. Even though this is a theology class, he would often throw in political tangents that were, in my opinion, unnecessary. I did learn a lot about Church history. If you are willing to put in the work and read the required readings, you will do fine.
Dr. Miller is incredibly intelligent, but it can be hard to keep up with him during lecture. He will cover a wide variety of topics all in one class, but all his lectures are recorded so go back and watch them when needed. His tests can be hard, especially with how he words the questions, but reviewing slides helps. Take advantage of Extra Credit!!
If you have a little bit extra time on your hands, this class is for you. If you have a busy schedule, the amount of readings and hours studying that come with this class becomes overwhelming quickly. Overall, Dr. Miller is very knowledgeable about his field and great at explaining difficult topics. Tests were also long, so be ready for those.
Long lectures that many times do not get finished and go into the next class. This leads to being behind on the schedule from the syllabus. Very long study guides he gives before the test, covers all the material for the test, but a lot he has not taught in class or lectured on. Very long true/false tests upwards of 90 questions.
Dr. Miller is a very intelligent and passionate professor. This class consists of long lectures and a lot of out-of-class work that requires a lot of time. During lectures, he also goes on long tangents based on the questions asked, which could get confusing if you don't follow along. But if you enjoy theology, this is a great class for you.
Dr. Miller gives extra credit for RMP reviews, so beware of the positive ones. The readings rarely had anything to do with the lectures. He spent a ton of time talking about politics & climate change. He gave long study guides to cover everything on the exams, but they contained info that wasn't lectured on. The exams were T/F over 90 questions.
I took Professor Miller for THL 175, the class was interesting, and I learned a lot about the climate crisis. The class has inspired me to take more action regarding climate change. There is a lot of reading to do later on in the semester, and short papers to write, but I would recommend taking this class.
If you are looking for an easy A this is not the class. Miller has very heavy lecture classes about new and important things. There are lots of readings that you need to do. The quizzes tend to be a bit harder. Only two big tests however 70 T/F questions. Found it very hard to study as he asks for very specific data on the tests.
I took THL 175 and found the course topics Interesting and engaging. But the amount of outside classwork was overwhelming at times. The first semester had a very relaxed pace with less readings to do, but the second semester I was reading everyday, and you write a lot of papers summarizing the reading in the second semesters.
Dr. Miller was very knowledgeable on the content of the class, and was very open for discussion. Asking questions was the best way to understand the content. There is a significant amount of outside reading. If you can navigate the important stuff and make sure to get ahead on the Written assignments, you will do well in the class.
Doctor Miller is a very knowledgable professor with engaging lectures. Keep up with the readings in the syllabus schedule and the class should be no problem at all. He's always happy to take questions about concepts and enjoys engaging with his students.
A very intelligent person, you will learn a lot about essential questions regarding your existence. He challenges you to think. He is very lecture heavy, do all of the hw, do not miss class, do all of the readings and study for his tests. He sets you up for success however, you HAVE to do the work for yourself. If you do the work you will do well.
This was definitely my favorite class all year! Dr. Miller is an incredible professor who gives a lot of insight and is always happy to deep dive questions after class! Make sure you keep track of the syllabus and stay on top of the homework and readings. (If you stay a little ahead of schedule, the class will be a breeze.) Lots of great lectures!
Dr. Miller is an eloquent speaker who is exceptionally passionate about his work. He will delve into and explain anything asked of him using historical examples and applicable statistics to accentuate the truths behind the subject. He speaks meaningfully on very harsh subjects while staying attentive to the emotions of his students.
Dr. Miller's class was very enjoyable. There is readings for almost every class, but nothing crazy. As long as you pay attention in the lectures you should be able to do well.
Dr. Miller is very knowledgeable and it shows in his lectures. His tests are long and you put too much effort into a MAGIS core class that doesn't need that much effort.
There is a lot of readings outside of class, but nothing too bad if you keep up with it. Dr. Miller is very passionate about what he teaches and makes sure the students understand what is going on. Focus during lecture and you will be fine.
He's an easy grader on essay's however turning them in on time is key to getting a good grade. His lectures are informational, and he has a sense of humor. It is lecture heavy but going to the lectures and listening will help you do well on the exams! He is very kind and respectful I would love to have him as a professor again.
The papers are long and there is a lot of reading, but neither are difficult to do. Show up for lectures and the class will go smoothly for you. Lectures are detailed, and walk you through content at a good pace, while always circling back to previous ideas. Everything is easy to understand, and professor spends adequate time on a topics.
Class has a lecture section and a historical section you read a book/watch 7ish hours of videos outside of class. 3 tests worth 48%,5 Essays worth 25%,Final with 22% and Participation/attendance worth 5%. Passionate but I did not sign up for a class about climate change and rants about politics. Talks a lot about human fulfillment and philosophy.
He cares about what he talks about in class and wants you to learn and engage in class. At the beginning of the semester, it was more lecture-heavy, and a few quizzes. But second part of the semester you had a lot of reading and writing assignments. The exams are made up of questions you have already seen. Keep up and pay attention u will be fine.
I would not recommend him for a theology class. If you grew up in church and have some background then you might do okay but otherwise AVOID THIS CLASS. The good reviews are all lies because he gives extra credit for these posts. Very long + boring lectures and the exams have LONG study guides.
Good.
Can't even cap dudes got motion. Tons of written assignments and exams, but they're chill. Took the climate change class, and learned a bunch about the climate.
He gives extra credit for reviews, but not just positive ones. They're anonymous. The class is very difficult. He pushes students to do their best and "does no favors by giving an easy A". He's a fantastic teacher and absolutely hilarious. If you engage with him and the material then this class will be much more fulfilling and you can learn a lot.
pros: funny, gives extra credit cons: very difficult class overall: take him if you are interested in theology, otherwise avoid because this class is not easy. says "easy As don't do you favors", I disagree. theology is a requirement for graduation and a lot of students with difficult classes(pre med, pre dental) rely on magis core for GPA boosts
Miller is very passionate. Class requires you to put in work = Get more out of it. Few homework assignments. Exams are straightforward, multiple-choice, and based on PowerPoint lectures. Entertaining lectures, but sometimes hard to follow. Offers extra credit. Buy or rent the books for class because you will use all of them. Hope that helps :)
I would say that I overall really enjoyed Miller. He is super cool but he also is very lecture heavy. It was definitely a skill that I had to acquire to sit and listen for so long. It's not very student involved during class but this course is definitely easy if you pay attention to Miller in the lectures and do the assigned work out of class.
Section 114 B: He is a funny guy and does care about his students. But the tests are difficult with long study guides that are difficult to do. There is a lot of reading outside of class and the classes are pretty long and boring a lot of the time. Overall he's a nice guy and knows what he is talking about but don't recommend if no interest.
Dr. Miller is incredibly passionate about what he teaches and makes sure students understand the importance of the issues discussed. The class is very lecture heavy and the exams kind of difficult but he does provide study guides for exams but they can be tricky to follow so definitely pay attention in class.
Dr. Miller is very passionate about what he is teaching but the class is a lot of work. There is lots of reading outside of class and lectures are often hard to follow. He gives study guides for exams but are often lengthy and hard to follow and his exams are tricky. This class takes up a lot of time and is a lot of work for a magis core class.
He grades easy on writing assignments as long as you write them correctly. Lectures go full-time and can become quite boring. Exams are true false with some multiple choice mixed in.
Dr. Miller is a great professor and you can tell that he is vey passionate about the climate crisis. You have 6 written assignments (short papers), 2 exams, and a final paper. If you turn in your assignments on time, and you study a bit, you should be able to pass the class. Overall, I really liked and would take again.
Good professor, very knowledgeable. Difficult without a background in Theology.
Professor Miller is very good at tying his material together. Class has a good flow, and he is very open to questions if you get lost. Yes, there is a decent amount of work to do, but it all either ties directly into the material to help deepen your understanding, or is material that will be on an exam. He does not teach extraneous material.
Dr. Miller is very passionate about the main topic in this class, climate change. He is very knowledgable and open to questions. He expects you to attend lecture, has 6 written assignments, two exams and a final paper. The class flows well and subjects tie together nicely.
Dr. Miller's class is certainly harder than your average core curriculum theology class, but it is a worthwhile class. He tackles big ideas with interesting perspectives and it is clear what he wants you to learn in the class. You will learn a lot. He often makes pretty funny jokes in class as well.
He cares about the subject and provides good information. The quizzes and exams build on each other, which is nice and helpful for learning. There is just a ton of information in each lecture. The Written Assignments are the only taxing work.
The class was overall very interesting especially when speaking about climate change. Dr. Miller was very passionate, which made the class more interesting. The 6 assigned papers were pretty simple as long as you read the assigned reading. The quizzes and tests were straight forward and he always prepared the class on what to expect for them.
Very passionate about the subject, teaches a challenging course
He is very passionate about what he teaches and there is a lot of information being taught each class, so it makes it difficult, but overall the class was very interesting.
Very passionate about the material, I learned a lot. 6 written assignments that were graded on completion and four quizzes. Format of tests mainly true/false with multiple choice and some questions are exact same as quiz. Sometimes lectures can get long and a little hard to follow but he records so you can go back to watch what you miss. Funny guy!
as long as you pay close attention to lecture and ask questions when you are lost, this course can be easy. The papers are graded on completion and help students engage in the course material. The exams are true false and some multiple choice. Interesting course
He is very intelligent, and good at answering questions and explaining the big picture. There is a lot of reading that is required to keep up with the class. He does give a lot of extra credit options. There are writing assignments, 3 exams, a final exam, and a final essay. He is a fun person in class and makes the material interesting.
He's honestly the best theology professor to take if you want to learn. Dr. Miller is really passionate about what he teaches, so you'll learn a lot. I enjoyed taking his class even though I struggled a lot. His class is tough, so be prepared for it. If you just want your theology credit to be an easy A, I would suggest taking someone else.
Writing assignments for sure. I did 6 total ranging from 1k-3k words. Takes up all class for lecture. very funny and understanding, if he sees you trying extra browny points for you!
Takes up all lecture time and tests are true false with all the questions pretty much being from lecture. he's not tricky. some professors seem tricky but he's very clear what will be on there and he wants you to succeed. You need this guy trust me
Dr. Miller is passionate and engaging, but his course is no easy A. Lots of reading, writing assignments, and challenging exams. Definitely take this if you want to learn, but Unstuck study and regular study sessions are a must.
Dr. Miller is so knowledgable about Theology and climate change. He encourages students to think critically about important questions. Funny, cracks jokes and really cares about what he is teaching. Written assignments are time consuming but easy to get 100%, tests are multiple choice or T/F-great prof, definitely take if you want to learn!!!
This class was very interesting and eye-opening, but you do much more work than other classes. There are difficult tests and many papers that other magis core theology classes do not have. Overall, Dr. Miller is a great professor, but you will need to do work in the class.
Dr. Miller's THL 114 course is a great first-year theology course. He focuses on the philosophy behind the theology and how it proves different theological ideas; the course also delves into the issue of human happiness and provides lots of food for thought. His lectures are very informative if you can stay focused for the whole class.
He has 6 papers that are grouped into 2 groups. The first 3 are due withing the first 3 weeks of class, the other three are due within 2 weeks of each other. His tests are difficult and true false making it hard to know if it is meant to trick you. Uses a very philosophical take on Christianity. Very opinionated and intelligent.
Dr. Miller is a super passionate, intelligent professor. The class wasn't difficult but there was a decent amount of assigned reading. The arguments can be tricky to follow, but that's often how theology is! There are 6 writing assignments, 3 exams, and the final is both an essay and a written test. Lots of easy extra credit opportunities too!
Dr. Miller really does care about his students, thats very apparent. I do not like theology and he at times made it more confusing. Fair grader, very lecture heavy, attendance is mandatory. He tries to explain concepts in more detail if you ask about them but it doesn't always help. Lots of self taught material on exams. (Julia Romero Section A)
You really dive deep into the faith and learn about who God is and who Jesus is. Very interesting. Be prepared for lots of information to learn.
I really liked Professor Miller. He was passionate about the subject and knew the material well. If you are looking for an east THL this class however is not for you. There are lengthy tests and you have to understand what is happening in class to do well on them. There are also a lot of homework that he gives out but he does offer extra credit.
Dr. Miller is very passionate about what he teaches, and makes that extremely clear in his lectures. He enjoys having his students ask questions, because he wants students to be involved in the climate change movement. He is a tough grader, and assigns a lot of reading and papers, but I truly learned a lot from him!
Dr. Miller encourages class discussions and questions, in a way that helped me learn a lot. He assigns a lot of papers, but we discuss each one and understand what we have learned from them. I enjoyed his lectures because he does his best to make sure we understand he is describing.
Dr. Miller's class was very engaging and I got a lot out of it. I appreciated that he gave very interesting perspectives and is very passionate. Funny guy, there is definitely work but I didn't find it too heavy. Exams are T/F and overall he is straightforward and clear with expectations.
Dr. Miller was a good teacher and very passionate about what he was teaching. There is a lot of work however, and if you are willing to put in the time and effort then you will get a decent grade. Towards the end of the semester, there were LOTS of essays, and a lot of reading to do.
Dr. Miller is a very knowledgeable and extremely passionate professor. You must know the material in depth. The exams can have some tricky true or false questions but they are doable if you know the material. Overall, this class had some great lectures and Dr. Miller is very helpful during his office hours and is willing to talk about anything.
Dr. Miller was one of the best professors I have had. I had him for THL 114 B, which was a lot of reading but if you do that then the class should be no problem. He really knows his stuff, and made me interested in the topics. He has sparked a new interest in religion for me, and for that I am grateful.
Dr. Miller is a nice guy, and you can tell he really cares about what he is teaching. However, for a magis core critical issues class, there was a ton of work. The tests are very specific with certain years, percents, and people. Also, there were 6 essays and a lot of readings. That being said, I did learn a lot about a large issue our world faces.
Dr. Miller is a good, but challenging, theology teacher who wants his students to succeed. There is some outside of class work and readings in the book which get tested on. His study guides cover most of the things you need to know for exams. He does a good job at walking through the great questions and goes into depth on his explanations.
So grateful I took this class. Funny lecturer and makes topics easier to understand. Dry humor but it makes class enjoyable. The written assignments are genuinely graded on effort, and if you work hard in his class, you will be perfectly fine. Tests can be difficult and are all multiple choice or true or false, but good grades are achievable.
Dr. Miller is a great professor and I really appreciated his passion for the class. The topic is interesting, and the material is not too complicated. There is a lot of work involved with the class compared to other critical issues classes.
Great professor and the material isn't too complicated. Lots of work though.
It's a lot of out of class work and lots of long detailed lectures, but the content covered is very interesting and important to know, so take the difficulty of the course with a grain of salt.
Dr. Miller is very knowledgable and passionate about his teaching. Lectures are interesting and make you think, while managing to be pretty funny. There are multiple long papers, but if you put effort in you'll get a good grade and get a lot out of them. I won't say the tests are easy, but they are straightforward - T/F - read the study guides.
I think that this class isn't as terrible as others say but would agree that it can get heavy in terms of lectures and essays. I think the workload I had this year wasn't well balanced since we had to do 3 essays in two weeks, requiring reading about 50 pages for each.
He's intelligent and passionate about what he teaches. I can tell he cares about students bc of how much effort he puts into concepts. He makes sure we understand the world before we are set free to be the next generation of adults. Dr. Miller has a complex way of thinking and explaining concepts that can sometimes be difficult to understand.
He is very knowledgeable about the subject and really does care. However, it is a very lecture heavy class, and you have to pay attention in class. The workload can be unbalanced, and you can write multiple papers per week but the tests really arent that bad.
Professor Miller really cares about the subject as well as the students. But the assignments and readings are a lot because you will have to read 50 pages and write an essay. If you are not willing to put in a lot of time for a Magis class than I would recommend taking something else.
Dr. Miller is very passionate about his work as a climate change activist. However, for the 2nd half of the semester, you have to write a paper almost every week. Out of other Critical Issues classes that I've heard about, this class is the most work. But, I learned so much from this class and the topic is very important to be educated on.
You can tell that Dr. Miller is very passionate about what he teaches but it can make him seem unapproachable. Theres a lot of reading assigned per night and his quizzes and tests can be challenging. You will be quizzed on the smallest details of the reading. He also does not let you take back your quizzes so you cant study what you got wrong.
Dr. Miller is very passionate about his work, and you can clearly see that through lectures and assignments. If you enjoy heavy topics and lectures about those topics, then you'll enjoy this class. He is a great person, but the amount of work for this class was intense, especially for a critical issues class.
Dr. Miller is very passionate about his work and it is clear how much he cares about his students. He is a relatively easy essay grader and outlines pretty clearly in class what will be on each test and is genuinely so sweet! However, if you are looking for an easy A this is not the class for you, there is a lot of writing and reading.
Dr. Miller is a great teacher! He's very passionate and you'll learn a lot in his class. He is an easy essay grader and tells you exactly what will be on each test. He offers a lot of extra credit. However towards the end of the course there started to be a lot of readings and homework. It's not an easy A but I definitely recommend!
Professor Miller's class has a lot of reading. He also has you do so many writing assignments, which are only 1500 words, yet it still feels like a lot of work. He also does this thing where you're supposed to read 50 pages, then cold calls on you and expects you to remember what a random chapter is about.
This guy would be a good professor if you weren't assigned a grade in the class. As someone who actually cares about the environment, it was incredibly discouraging to have this class be more difficult than any other class as a biology major. Overall, it was doable, but I would not recommend if you don't want to work hard for a good grade.
This class is mostly lecture-based, which can be interesting, and many classes were engaging. However, there are many essays (which aren't too difficult but are time-consuming), and there is a lot of reading outside of class. His approach to the course is interesting, and overall, he is very nice.
He gives long lectures, often going off on useless side tangents, and taking all class time or longer. There are six papers, and the tests are mainly true/false which can be difficult. My biggest complaint was the lack of communication overall. He is not good at responding to emails, which can be frustrating.
This professor is really good at repeating main points during a lecture. Sometimes he throws too much vague information in one slide. Almost always before class, we had to do readings. I love the extra credit opportunities. He is a harsh grader for the writing assignments, but he'll let you make corrects to make up points! This was a hard class.
Dr. Miller was a great guy and awesome professor, but he is definitely a very harsh grader. He also has many deliberately difficult questions on his exams that confuse the test taker. If his tests were a bit clearer, it would be the perfect class. He's really funny and passionate.
Miller is very passionate and is super lecture-heavy. Be prepared
Dr. Miller is a very passionate and knowledgeable professor. He is very reasonable with grading and provides more than enough extra credit opportunities, enabling his students to reflect deeper on the material instead of straight memorization. This class has given me a different outlook on not just Christianity, but also happiness.
I enjoyed having him as a professor. We always had great theological discussions. I can truly say I have grown in knowledge in who God is and in turn grown closer to God. There are some writing assignments and the tests are history heavy which can be difficult. I just personally believe the merits from the class outweighed the academic part.
I was in Professor Miller's THL 114 A, he is unexpectedly funny and actually cares about students well being. however, his classes feel extremely long at times because he tends to ramble on and his tests while ,true/false/multiple choice, tend to be somewhat difficult. Although his class can be tough, He does care about his students so its worth it
Dr. Miller is very passionate about what he teaches so that makes class a little interesting but if you just need a theology credit for magis, I wouldn't take him.
Dr. Miller is very passionate and knowledgeable about what he teaches and helps students apply the ideas to their life. While he was hard to reach by email and some of the readings can get long, I thoroughly appreciated all the lessons that I can take away from this class, and feel that I have grown much closer to God.
In Dr. Miller's class, you get to play either Dorthy or ToTo in your own live action reality Wizard of Oz TV show! With him playing Oz! No question is great or small for Dr. Miller, and if you really want to experience the world in a spiritually significant manner, take his class! Did I mention that he helped me find Jesus through his lectures??
Possibly the most annoying class I had to take. He just talks until he is talking about something completely unrelated, and then shifts back to the question after 10 minutes. Most exams are 90ish questions. He tries to push his political ideas onto you and tries recruiting students to start a protest. Talks about Trump and Musk all the time.
He is a great guy and loves what he does. However, his tests are 90+ true false and tough questions at that. To make up for it, he gives you plenty of extra credit and 100 on every paper. Would not recommend if you have never really studied religion before. overall not bad just a lot.
Dr. Miller is a very intelligent professor but at times it is hard to interpret the point he is trying to get across. There are many writing assignments to complete but they are meant to help our grade. He cares about our learning and our overall grade but it is a very difficult course.
The class is easy enough, you get what you put into it. It's an easy B but a hard A in my opinion. The tests can be tricky, but the written assignments help weight your grade. I don' t think you need any religious experience to take this class honestly….
He is fine. Not good, not terrible. He cares about his students and wants us to succeed, but it is also hard when he goes off on tangents that don't make sense. With that being said, I don't know how he compares to other theology professors. You will have 7 writing assignments and a 3000 word final essay along with 4 tests.
Dr. Miller is a very well educated professor, and knows what he is talking about. In this class we didn't use the bible all that much which seemed odd for a THL class. With that being said the information we learned was extremely deep and detailed. It helped to learn a lot about life and the deepest meaning of it.
Very lecture heavy class. The exams were hyper specific and consisted of paragraph format.
The class wasn't terrible but required a decent amount of outside work. We had 7 long essays and 4 tests, and the tests were kind of hard because they weren't always over things he'd lectured about in class and they were almost all true/false questions. He cares about his students, but goes off on tangents a lot and his lectures are really long.
Very well-rounded curriculum-wise. Enjoyed the material, but the course is very lecture heavy so be ready to listen. Take notes in class or off of the recorded lectures, the slideshows alone will not give you everything you need. Communicate any accommodations or needs very clearly with Dr. Miller.
Dr. Miller is extremely knowledgable in theology and the class was very insightful and interesting. However he is extremely anti-computer and the class was extremely lecture heavy so if you don't already have interest in the topic you might die of boredom. Around half of the grade is based on roughly biweekly essays which are graded for completion.
Dr. Miller has a structured course with every class and assignment laid out in the syllabus. He is very passionate about what he teaches but gets side tracked often, leading to classes running late. Lectures are mandatory but somewhat interesting. He does not allow phone usage. While Dr. Miller comes across as strict, he does care for his students.
I would not recommend this course unless you are interested in a theology major or minor. It was interesting to learn about, and the way Dr. Miller taught was interesting, however, it is frustrating to put in so much work for a class that is not in your major and do worse in a major core class than your major-specific classes.
Nice professor but his tests are extremely hard and strict on attendance.
This class really helped me personally.  It teaches Christian theology with a focus on human happiness.  It helped me to reflect on what I really want to do with my life and how I want to live my life.  I found the workload manageable.  Dr. Miller tells you exactly what will be on the tests and the way he weighs the grades to helps your grades.
This was the best class I have taken at Creighton so far.  Dr. Miller really showed how the course content was relevant to our lives.  He got me to think more deeply about my life.  I struggle with anxiety and the spiritual practices he introduced us to really helped with my anxiety. defenitly take this class if you can.
This course seems scary, but in reality, this professor is just trying to educate you on the catholic teaching and climate change. He respects his students, their time, and knowledge, and wants to challenge that. If you are lookingrse, don't take this one, but if you want a challenge and to lea for an easy courn something, take it.
Dr. Miller is a great guy and he's passionate about what he teaches. The tests are monotonous and mostly true false with very vague questions. He goes off topic quite a bit in his lectures.
The teaching style is very lecture-heavy heavy but he tells you exactly what is on all of the quizzes and tests. He is very specific with the information he is looking for.
THL 175 B Professor Miller is very passionate, and clearly cares a lot about his students. I ended up learning a lot from his "Human Induced Climate Crisis: Origins and Solutions", but I would note for future students that it is a time commitment outside of class. In other words, do not take this class if you are looking for an easy A.
I was part of THL175 B. I got thrown into this class because it was the last available course but I'm glad I took it. His class was very interesting and I learned a lot. The first have of the semester is kind of light but get ready to read second semester. He does offer extra credit which is nice and you need to take advantage of that.
I was in THL 175 B. Professor Miller is very passionate about this topic and makes sure that his students know all about the current climate crisis. He spends most of class time lecturing and does not allow computer or phone use. During the second half of the semester, there are a lot of outside class readings so be prepared for that.
Happy I selected this class for my critical issues credit. Dr. Miller can seem intimidating at first but he is a very caring professor. The goal of the class is to motivate students to take action and learn about our current world state. Tests and essays aren't bad but definitely more work that most critical issues classes 2nd half of semester.
This class is important. You'll learn a lot about climate change and different ways to look at the ways at the problem. He emphasizes the importance of the problem on us and future generations and enlightens us on how to deal with the problem. It is test and essay heavy, and the second semester work load increases due to the amount of reading.
THL 175-B This is a really great course!! LOTS of reading and writing. Pretty heavy workload for a 100 level THL class in my opinion but a super important topic!
THL175B Great Guy. You can tell he really cares about what he is teaching about. Lots of reading, but that's college. His grading is very fair. As long as you do the work and read he isn't too harsh on grading. There is just a lot of information so that can seem overwhelming. But overall wonderful teacher.
Dr. Miller will challenge you like your life depends on it. Personally the course is not for me but I can appreciate the passion and stance Dr. Miller takes especially with Jesuit values, Catholic Social Teaching, and implementing them into climate change. Attendance mandatory, HEAVY READINGS (A LOT), and a 10 min presentation with cumulative tests
Dr. Miller is clearly a knowledgable professor with plenty of experience in his field of study. His lecture material is interesting, but at times it can be overwhelming if you do not at leat preview the slides ahead of time because so much information is being mixed to prove one point at a time.
Dr. Miller is very passionate about what he teaches, making class interesting which I can appreciate. However that being said, there is a ton of work and receiving a grade of choice takes work. If you are signing up for this class because you have to for magis core wouldn't reccomend. If you're interested you'll probably like it.
