Best Professor I've ever had
Wow! Take his class if you can get in!
How could such a nice guy be so smart!
Doc is his nickname, he is the best prof at Metro, he lets class out 15 min earl
Doc is the BOMB! He is stimulating, clever, intelligent and gifted
Great professor, not tightly wound up like some idiots at Metro !.
Great!
Easy Class. You can go off on a tangent while taking his class and write about just about anything that relates to the question. Great Professor.
What a joke! All he talked about was his doctor wife and how conservative he is. Easy A but didn't learn a thing.
opposite of meranto which is needed in any department; didn't agree with his conservative views but anyone intelligent enough can read between the lines; allows liberals to speak their mind, which is noble; a balance is always good
I took this class and it was an easy A but I didn't feel like I learned anything.
Great teacher. Took him years ago...he's only a year or two older than me everyone was younger. He did a good job. Pretty easy class if you read the book and take good notes!
Sign up for his class if you want to hear all about the renovations to his house.
Great teacher, funny and makes class worth going to
Most I've learned in a Political Science course, besides the one Hazan taught. Awesome teacher :D
NEVER shuts you down. He plays both sides of issues and even has students do most of the debating on controversial topics. He highlights both sides of each issue. His jokes are weak so don't take him if you hate dumb jokes. But, DO take him if you want a diverse approach to politics. His Model UN is awesome!
Very interesting. Props for being a conservative, but not shoving it down your throat. Very fair. Keeps the class light. Always cracking jokes. Knows his stuff. Highly recommend.
Never in his office, very inaccessable. Chili pepper? I don't think so!!!!!!!
Dr. Moeller is the best professor in the poli sci department. His classes are really fun and he is a great teacher. His tests are kind of ridiculous but the rest of the class makes up for it.
His classes are fun. His knowledge of some of the subject matter did not always inspire confidence, but he tested on broader concepts. I learned a lot despite the holes in his knowledge and definitely understand European politics much more intimately.
very knowledgable about the subject, enthusiastic and always willing to work with the students
He is smart and funny.Sometimes he can make some comments that are a bit discriminating, but for the most part he is a good professor. His tests are not hard, but to long and hard to finish on time. Take good notes, and u will receive a good grade
The best professor at Metro!! He manages to make every class interesting.
Amazing professor. Easily the best at Metro.
He came unprepared to class each day and spent most of the class off topic. When he was on topic he just read from internet sites, something I could have easily done on my own. He's very picky about length on his essay tests, like Goldilocks. Can't be too short, can't be too long, has to be just right. Grades more on length than content.
Took his Politics in the Media and Intro to International Relations. Both great classes. He is very passionate and plays both sides of the fence well. He is conservative but very fair and never bashes on any one side like other Metro professors. Overall my favorite professor at Metro, very interesting classes.
I am a senior now with a Behavioral Science major and an emphasis in Political Science. He was my absolute favorite teacher. His teaching style is lectures, but not boring lectures. I took every class that he offered because I like his style. Essays can make or break you, there is always three and yes page length matters. Anyway he was amazing!
Moeller is one of the last great PSC professors at Metro. Awesome teacher, very interesting, respectful and cool. He gives the students a lot of power and his classes are fun and interactive. Take him if you have a chance. You will learn a bunch and you won't have to endure misery. Fun and upbeat guy.
Dr. Moeller is awesome, his classes are lecture based but very interesting and informative. Discussion is encouraged. He really knows his stuff! The tests are essay format and as long as you have thoughtful essays you will do well! Essays mean you actually learn something and retain the information, unlike multiple choice tests! I'm a fan!
Great Professor, interesting class with fair grading
AMAZING!!!! It's not hard but you learn a lot! I love his classes and he is really fun and really smart!!!
Take this guy. You will learn a bunch because class is not hard but he makes it super fun. He is one of the best professors at Metro and you next to never use the book. So don't buy it.
I feel that this professor is very biased. He talks about his conservative political views openly in class, and class can feel very one sided. All tests are essay and the way he grades is not very clear. I think he grades to his political ideology. If you want a real education in IR, don't take this guy. Plus he talks about movies way too much.
1st, his European Politics class should have been a European history class. Very little political relevance. 2nd,TAKE GOOD NOTES and expect to write fast to keep up.He wont write notes on the board.3rd his testing format is a joke. More of a race against the clock than a test. Very unclear how he grades. Decisive conservative slant to his classes.
Fantastic teacher. Highly intelligent with a strong passion for the subject. Extremely clear on what will be on test AND gives a 80% of the test review day the class before the test. If you fail this class it will be because you were asleep during class.
Outstanding and personable professor. He teaches what you need to know and makes classes fun to attend. Professor Moeller integrates a country's history into lectures to show the impact the country has on the current political landscape in Europe and its relationship to the US. Course grade is based two midterms and a final, so take good notes.
Moeller is AWESOME!!! His class is all lecture, but you learn the information if you take notes and he goes over everything on the test the class before. His test questions make you think, but that's college. I would take another class with him in a heart beat.
Professor Moeller was great ! I didn't need to buy the textbook. All of his lectures were in depth and provided enough information to pass the exams with ease. He may be a little bit conservative, but it's a refreshing chane compared to other professors.
really interesting prof. Really good at putting things in context, struggles to stay focused. his lectures can go way off topic and never make it back, good lectures but way off topic. whatever you do don't miss test prep days
Fantastic and Interesting
Teacher lectures nonstop and doesn't stay on topic. His grading is a joke. There are no parameters and he tries to be your friend instead of prof. Doesn't remember a single student and doesn't try. Feels as if he's there for a paycheck.
The guy is funny, knowledgeable, and makes things interesting. Yes, it's all lecture, but it's interesting. And what else is class supposed to be? He tells you EXACTLY what's on the exams. It's all essay-green book style but you have a lot of material you can pull from. It was my favorite class this semester!
Great teacher to learn from. Test are off of his notes and the book is a good term reference but not usually on the test. Great lectures but more like discussions. A lot of class involvement
If you're taking this class and it pertains to your major, I do not suggest taking this course with him. My class had a lot of older and higher division students who directed discussions. Those of us who are taking this as our first PSC class were totally lost and Moeller never tried to control that. Take this course with someone who cares.
Dr. Moeller's a good guy, and for the most part, a great prof. His lectures can get off topic sometimes, but he always keeps them interesting and entertaining. The only issue are his tests. While he prepares you well, it feels like a race against the clock to answer all the questions. Overall, though, I would recommend him!
Dr. Moeller is a funny guy, he made class enjoyable. He does have political bias which can get annoying. His exams are not easy in the sense of doing them. The subject matter on the exams are easy, but they are essay exams. Get ready to WRITE a minimum of 8 pages for his exams!!!! Overall a fun class.
He's my favorite professor I've had at metro. I've taken his classes multiple times and always enjoy them. As long as you show up and participate, there's no reason why you shouldn't pass. Also, we spend a lot of time talking about movies as a class.
Best prof ever!!
He is a pretty good teacher! SUPER German and talks about that a lot, but he tells you what will be on the test, no book ever needed until the end project, but if you are not in class you will not pass.
dudes the man and his class is the easiest class i have ever taken. i suggest taking this class, he funny and smart and he tries not to show his bias. best teacher i had in a while and i will be taking his pcs 1030 class too next semester
I am not that great at political science courses, but Moeller really made the subject understandable. There is a textbook and he bases his lectures off of it, so if you attend class and read the textbook you should do well on the tests. He has a review day before every test, which makes getting an A on the tests even easier.
Very knowledgable. Tests are essay based and very hard to finish in time. Make sure you have a clear idea of what you want to say in your essays before. There is no time for critical thinking. the tests are challenging but you will find that you really learn the material.
Opinionated fart. Weird. If you think logically about politics, you don't need to attend but he gets really upset if people skip. "What is democracy?" stupid questions and same jokes over and over again. Lets you out early. Some of the answers to his questions are really his opinions.
Lecture heavy, but smart. He is not a tough grader but at least know what you're talking about. Don't bother reading the textbook too heavily, his test questions are 90% from lecture. Participation is favored but he does not grade based on attendance - but be cool. He's very accessible and very willing to meet. No group/big projects.
Richard is extremely knowledgeable and makes the material very interesting with his great lectures which make up 90% of the class.
Moeller's class was very lecture heavy, and I never used the textbook. He said that test questions wouldn't include info that wasn't gone over in class, but there were a few questions that he didn't talk about at all. Regardless, the class was relatively easy. I would take him again!
Moeller is one of those teachers who is more concerned with being liked, and being your "friend," than he is about being a good teacher, or giving students a good education. His expectations for assignments are NOT clearly stated ANYWHERE, and he is rarely available to his students. Doesnt reply to emails. Doesnt explain or justify grades given.
Great professor. Can get off topic at times.
Dr. Moeller is an amazing professor, I know so many people including myself that have taken multiple classes with him. pay attention in lectures because he will quote himself on the tests. His written exams are very doable, he likes to know his students viewpoints on them. He does talk a lot and does show bias sometimes but be open minded.
This professor is great, he knows his stuff and gives easy assignments. He does ramble on sometimes but it's interesting. Easy online exams, small group presentation and a final, he usually is an easy grader. He doesn't take attendance but if you always show up to class he will bump your grade up from a B to A
If you're a non-PoliSci major, I actually really do recommend taking one of Moeller's General Studies classes. He has amazing lectures, and makes sure that anyone will be able to input. I start to take issue, however, in the fact that Moeller isn't shy about voicing his opinions. He isn't impartial enough to be able to teach a PoliSci class.
If you have a chance to take him, dont think twice. Hes the best professor Ive ever had, easy. He has a doctorate from one of the best universities in the word yet he is unbelievably approachable and really cares about his students. Hes the reason I stayed at MSU instead of transferring. Best lectures. I cant say enough good things about him
I learned a bit in his class, he never states exactly what he's looking for us to do but is an easy grader. His tests were BS because some of it was on his opinions, so if you weren't in class for that you're screwed. My biggest issue with the class was the last two months he stopped teaching and instead we had to learn about topics from classmtes
Probably the best professor at Metro, definitely the best Ive had. I would highly recommend taking him if you have the opportunity. He isnt petty about stuff some profs are, he just cares about you learning and having success. Super interesting lectures. Just an overall great human being, in my opinion.
Ive taken a few of Moellers classes and hes the man! Best prof ever! And an awesome guy. He has the most interesting lectures Ive ever heard. Tells you all you need to know then tells you things you want to know and that you can talk to your friends about. He works with you if youre late on a paper or anything like that. Definitely recommended
I cant recommend him enough. Genuinely cares about his students having academic success and thats so rare - from my experience. Extremely knowledgeable and has the most interesting lectures. The guy is like a walking encyclopedia. Hes relatively easy because he doesnt get caught up in petty stuff like some profs yet you still learn a ton.
I really like Dr. Moeller. He is very smart, and I feel like I've learned a lot from him. I would definitely recommend him.
Would not recommend. He is all over the place during lectures, it's super hard to figure out where he's going. Gets off topic a lot, which makes it worse. He says that everything on the test will be covered in class, but there were so many questions on the test that I didn't know, and I never skip class. And puts his opinion on tests, which is poor
An incredible prof gave my favorite lectures I've attended in college thus far. While he's not scared to voice his opinion he's also not scared to hear yours which makes his classes great for open discussions and debates as poly sci should be. Really cares about his class and students and clearly wants you to succeed. Go to class, you'll pass!
My grade consisted of 4 tests and a single paper. Screw up one or two of the tests, you were screwed for a grade. He did not help me gain access to the test reviews that were not required and happened while most of the class was at work. He was rude when providing feedback and offered no help on how to improve this.
My grade consisted of 4 tests and that was it. The reviews for these were held while a large portion of the class was at work and they were not recorded by the teacher and provided for these students. It was inaccessible and some of the questions on the tests were only covered in the reviews.
Moeller is a fairly easy teacher. I took his class online and the only grades were 4 different tests. There were times where we did have to meet online just to study. He also posts very informative lectures. He is a republican so that brings an interesting dynamic to his classes. He is very opinionated, but funny. Does not respond to emails.
Professor Moellers class consist of only for tests which was good. However his test were based on his lectures that he would post every week. In those lectures he would talk so much and would often ramble about other things that were unrelated to the test which often was very wasteful and not necessary at all.
I honestly really enjoyed his class. I took it online so it consisted of a couple of lectures followed by a test after an optional review meeting. While the other reviews here are right that he does put his opinion into a few (and I do mean FEW) test questions, if you listen to a word he says, you will get those questions easy. 10/10
Horrible professor. always goes off topic for lectures. never gives clear instructions and mia
Professor Moeller is fantastic. He gives really great lectures that don't feel like lectures at all. The class is graded based on the 4 tests through the semester and a paper, but honestly anything more than that feels like busy work. He also takes questions really well and is not afraid to give his two cents on the topics of the day.
If you go to class and take notes, this class is fairly easy. He does go on rants that take him off topic occasionally, but they're usually pretty entertaining.
Moeller is by far one of the easiest professors I have ever taken. He wants everyone to succeed and truly wants to make an impact on students. His political leanings are very clear and while he likes to debate, he often doesn't consider other opinions. His exams are very easy and his commentary is very funny.
Dr. Richard Moeller is a fantastic educator who takes pride in his fields of expertise. While he can go off topic, his various side-bars are hilarious and interesting. Moeller's grading relies heavily on tests, and although attendance isn't mandatory, I recommend not missing class, and certainly never missing test reviews.
I had Moeller as the Model UN advisor and he was a hoot. Taught our group so much history, and we all had a great time on the trip. If you want to travel somewhere and be in the model un, talk to him! It was one of the best decisions I made in undergrad.
I really liked this class. Dr. Moeller's lectures were great and covered the material really well. The class consisted of four quizzes and one paper. If you pay close attention to the recorded lectures and take good notes, you'll do fine. Outside of class, Dr. Moeller was friendly and accommodating. I'd absolutely take another class from him.
Dr. Moeller is a very lovely professor but I don't like how he teaches. He has no PowerPoint slides, and all he does is talk the whole time. Me personally I can't learn that way because it's not very engaging. I always feel like I'm about to fall asleep because all I'm doing is listening. But, like I said very nice person got the job done.
Moeller is a controversial prof, you either love him or hate him. He truly cares about student success, however he has opinions on most things and will share them. He loves music, his wife, and criticizing the status quo and communism. His exams are easy so long as you attend the review day. He will help you succeed, if you show up for him.
he really likes student input and would definitely recommend taking him. he does actives and most grading are exams but nothing to worry about as long as you take notes and engage.
