If you imagine an **** teacher who doesnt listen...this is your guy.
Simply a terrible teacher
a really good teacher, but be ready to learn. the grade will not be handed to you, do the work and get the grade. do not take if you are lazy or not willing to work, because you will not pass the class. which, that is almost 70% of all other students.
Horrible Teacher! Rips the students apart
This professor is awful. He claims that all negative opinions of him are unfounded. Additionally he is right about everything even when he is wrong and supporting evidence is given. His favorite way to avoid a point that he doesn't agree with is to say "I don't want to talk about that yet, we will get back to it"....
Nothing against him personally, but as a teacher...Meh. I hate the fact he doesn't allow homework to be sent to him via email if you can't make it in and his attendance policy is beyond outrageous. Seriously, what if you have like a parent die? Either way, you STILL miss credit even when you have a valid excuse!
A good professor overall, just don't get on his bad side and don't slack off!
Besides being a jerk, he is a horrible teacher. He wants you to do everything exactly his way but not everyone learns like that. He thinks all students are alike and does not appreciate learning differences. He is rude and as someone else said, rips students apart. He's a teacher who doesn't teach, but just expect you to be perfect w/o help.
First of all Dr. Morris is very rude and seems to feel that his oppinion is the only one that matters. He will often dismiss or criticize students who say something he doesn't agree with. Also if you prove him wrong he will simply not acknowledge your point.
Awesome teacher. My favorite.
Be prepared to use your brain. He doesn't deal with nonsense and if you do what you are asked you will find that he is actually an excellent professor.
You have to actually have a lot of writing talent to do well in this class. Don't come to class unprepared. A B in this class is great. As are nearly unheard of. BUT if you listen to him, he does know what he's talking about.
I had Dr. Morris a few years ago and I learned more in his class than most of my other classes combined - and I am currently a history teacher. He is very difficult, and starting off with him was a challenge. However, once I adapted and started following his direction, I did well in his class and really enjoyed his teaching in the process.
Extremely difficult instructor, wasn't helpful at all, was rude, and expected perfection - even though he is far from being perfect. Any confidence I had about my skills before taking his class were shattered.
Not very helpful when I asked him questions, replayed " read the directions". Basically, you have to read and do what he wants PERFECTLY or he will rip your paper apart. You are warned.
Not only one the worst teachers I've ever had, but a truly vile and arrogant human being. He harasses students who want his help, talks about himself to no end, has no clear grading system, and bears grudges that carry into how he judges papers. Don't take his class!
I have mixed feelings about him. He was very rude and unsympathetic. I was upset almost very day after class and honestly, he scared me a little bit. But he was nicer to me than to other people in the class but I made it a point that I was interested in the class so as long as you do that you'll be fine. He was also very helpful with papers.
I am very disappointed with this class. I am a capable writer and actually enjoy it - serious student. He does not know how to teach, just how to criticize. I don't mind getting one bad grade, even if I work hard, if it means he's helping me improve...NEVER the case. He doesn't want to teach, just wants to play God. Find a different section!
Worst professor I have ever had. He is very rude and disrespectful to his student. Makes students feel as if they are nothing. I went to him for help after failing my papers, he was NO HELP! He has no true concept in what he actually wants from you and your papers. I would highly recommend NEVER taking his class.
Honestly the most discouraging teacher I've had in my life. He's very sarcastic and rude. No way you will pass this class because he wants his assignments exactly how he expects but doesn't clarify. Would never recommend taking any class with him. Worst experience of my life, I cannot make this up.
Dr. Morris is tough, but many reviews here seem much more negative than what I experienced. He's sarcastic and makes jokes sometimes, but c'mon. Laugh it off and move on. This was my attitude toward him, and he seemed to like me which made my life a lot easier. Certainly has strict guidelines, but did allow us students to drop our lowest grade.
literally the worst teacher I have EVER had in my life.( and trust me I have had some bad ones) tough grader, when he grades papers he will always tell you what you did wrong but will never tell you how to fix it. I couldn't tell you what an " A" paper looks like in his class if it was sitting in my face. please get any other teacher but him
Worst teacher. Never take the class. Horrible person. Assignments are never fully explained and expects more than he teaches.
Dr. Morris' class was by no means easy. However, after I finished the class I can honestly say that he made me a better student. He pushed you to do the absolute best that you can do; he just does not give you an easy grade. You definitely have to work for your grade in his class, but he will help you and it does push you to do your best.
He is a very difficult professor to work with. He is an extremely hard grader and what is more frustrating is when he would return your papers, he would tell you what you did wrong but he would not tell you how to fix it. Whenever you asked him for help he would give you a very short answer and not fully answer your question.
Class was online so I can't comment on his demeanor. But, his attitude can come off snobby. Just look past it. He offers help and will give it to you of you ask good questions. That being said a couple times his help wasn't very clear. Also, the instructions were very specific and you had to follow them to a T. Also, grading seemed arbitrary.
He is a fairly tough grader, but I didn't find anything unexpected in his grading comments (besides their snobby undertones). I got an A in the class, but I can honestly say that he did not make me a better writer. Disappointing to go through all his nonsensically specific assignment requirements to not be any better off than when I started.
The worst teacher I have ever taken. He is very rude and swears is class to try to be cool. He is a very tough grader and even if you do everything he ask you'll probably still get a bad grade. Please Avoid!
Very tough grader and a lot of papers to write, but he is very clear in what he wants in the papers (IM's). This is a tough class, if you follow what he wants and ask questions you will do well. I took this online, but he was available by email or office hours to answer questions. I would take a course from him again.
Elitist, opinionated, pushes his agenda, if you don't agree with his opinion, you're wrong, very disrespectful, pedantic, presumptuous, pretentious, hypocritical. I caught him in a lie, claiming he read my revised paper when he actually did not.
Dr. Morris was very fair and consistent in his grading and always ended each assignment and announcement with encouragement. He deserves a higher rating than the overall rating he has here. I'm glad I ignored it and took his class.
I turned in a rough draft of my final late so he decided to take that out on my final paper, giving me a 46%. His comments were that the quality of my writing was not up to his standard. Let it be known that I did receive an A on every other paper in his class. Recommend to stay away from this teacher.
This is by far the worst professor I've ever had. He is so rude, in all of his feedback and even the syllabus. To say he's a tough grader is an understatement. I would not wish this class on my worst enemy. He has made me feel stupid from the first day and I'm an A student.
He is a very rude and disrespectful teacher. Very tough grader and does not help you at all. Talks down to students. PLEASE GO TO ANY OTHER ENG102 TEACHER. People like him should not be working with students. Teachers should try to help students. He does the opposite.
He is by far the worst professor I've ever had to take a class under and I had Dr. Redmon for COM103 and he wasn't nearly as bad as Dr. Morris. He does not respect his students yet demands respect from them. He's a stuck up professor who believes he is God's gift to the world and you better bow down and kiss the top of his shoes lest he scuff them.
Make sure to call him Dr. Morris or he will be offended. He wastes huge amounts of paper by making students print out their paper each time they change it.
Although he may seem pompous or arrogant, he does mean well. He seems to start your grade based on how much he thinks he likes you. He does expect his students to already know the basics of grammar. I called him Dr. Dich. You will meet folks like this in life that you need to learn to deal with in order to move on to the next stage,It's a Challenge
I put my foot and back into the papers I wrote for the class and all of them received D's and F's. I changed my work vigorously through his feedback and recieved worse grades. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS TEACHER!!!!!! You will highly regret it. He's super rude too!
If you do not write exactly how this man wants you to write you will receive an F in this class.; and his tone through his feedback makes you afraid to even meet up with him in office hours. This class was made way more difficult than it needed to be. I am an A and B student and I'm really upset I am going to end up with a D in the class.
Dropped the class after he made me sit outside to reread and annotate an article becuase my annotations and notes weren't good enough for him. Wish I would've read the reviews here first becuase they're all true. He truly made me feel like I was in high school again with all of his expectations.
There are criteria he wants you to follow because it's his method of showing you how to understand anything that's thrown at you in printed format. The final I turned in wasn't great, and he was disappointed at my lack of focus after the hard work I put in. Not that I knew him that well, esp. online, but he cared and wanted me to succeed.
The problem with Dr. Morris is that he will fail you for the entire course if you fail to turn in 1 single assignment no matter how small it is. Once you miss a turn in date after 7 days he will fail you for the semester. 0/10 do not recommend!!
I went to Parkland before I transferred to U of I. Can say in all my years, Ive never had such a BAD professor at either college. Listen to everyone here this guy is AWFUL. I dropped his class as soon as he made me and other students sit in hallway during class because we didnt take good enough notes. Why is he even still at Parkland anyway?
Dr. Morris is probably the funniest professor I have ever had. Very cutthroat, but truly wants his students to succeed!
This was a very difficult class. The grading criteria is unclear at the beginning, but he does give feedback after assignments are submitted.
You are now adult and will be treated like an adult. He isn't cuddly and will give constructed criticism. This is by no means a blow off class and you will work very very hard to obtain a descent grade. I think people give him a bad "grade" because he grades like a professor not a friend. I was ready to quit this class, glad I didn't. Cheers!
Dr. Richard Morris was absolutely horrible and very rude to me. I will never recommend him to anyone.
Do NOT select his English course. Choose anyone else. I took his online 102 course this year and it made my first semester so much more stressful. I have never been so scared to turn things in because he is so mean and in his critiques he would point out formatting problems that werent even there. This man is stuck up.
Very rude professor. Asked for help, made me feel incredibly stupid. The only class I've ever withdrawal from because he's such a rude guy. DONT TAKE HIS CLASSES IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO
One of the most worthless classes I have taken. Says to email him for help, but his help is just telling you to read the instructions again. His feedback is him just flaming your assignment you just spent the past 2.5 weeks working on. No constructive criticism here. Not a nice guy either, save you some brain cells and avoid this professor.
Difficult to work with.
YOU WILL RECEIVE AN F IN THE COURSE FOR NOT COMPLETING ONE ASSIGNMENT NO MATTER HOW LITTLE IT CHANGES YOUR GRADE. I didnt do one assignment and my grade went down to an 89, he will fail you if you make the same mistake. Lost my shot to transfer to UIUC. Tried to reason with him and explain my circumstances and he did not show any concern.
This was the most difficult class I have ever taken. The IM's have to be exactly what he is thinking or you will lose significant points. He warns you that he isn't cuddly, but in all reality he will pick your papers apart and shame you for your "bad" writing. He says he will help if you are confused, but will tell you to reread 99% of the time.
Wouldn't recommend this professor to anyone. He was the worst professor I have ever had. He has you turn in topic sentences to only respond with "Too broad." and to "Reread." He makes rude comments and makes assumptions that you haven't put in any work or tried with the assignment when you have spent weeks on it. Take anyone else's LAS course.
Writing skills should be extremely strong to take this class. The only reason I got a B was because I was late turning an assignment in & it bumped me down. The very few assignments for this class are worth large chunks of points, so turning everything in on time and in completion is key. He is helpful, but in a roundabout, sort of arrogant way.
Richard Morris is rude, condescending, and just plain mean. He does not teach. He does not give the correct type of feedback. I wrote just a rough draft paper and was informed it was the worst rough draft he had ever seen. I was informed I would be fired on the spot if I ever wrote anything like that for a company.
Really good teacher from experience, he was tough and teaching you that what you need to know to improve your writing. really helpful and he explained to me how to change my writing skills. I think he comments are a a little over top but don't really take it personal.
Overall comes across as rude and mean. Doesn't help much at all, student examples will be your best friend. Really tough grader for the type of class. Will never suggest him to others.
It was a pretty awful class and he was not good with explaining what he wanted in his papers. Upon emailing him he was not elaborate. He failed me after the first paper was not what he expected so I just withdrew from the course because I was not going to pass.
His will say that he could have taught at a famous University, but choose Parkland college as an "honor to pass on his teachings". With how much he brings up his old university + superiority complex in front of college students + lack of teaching skills, he probly got rejected, and is projecting in his classes. DONT waste your money and time.
Honors taught class without the proper credit. Gives you loaded assignments that have to be formated EXACTLY as his examples. Do anything outside the writing templet, letter grade drop immediately. Will be very critical on papers without giving proper feedback. Gives attitude of 'the bell doesn't dissmiss you, I dismiss you'.
This is not professor that should teach a 101 class. Anyone who struggles with research and needs help writing with papers, good luck. Will tell you your paper is ok, then proceed to give you a C- for not understand it. Work cited must be done manually, and if not will give automatic zero on sourcing. Has probly never given an A. Your welcome
He writes in the syllabus that he is "warm demander," but there is nothing warm about him. The nicest criticism I've gotten is "this is ok" while telling me what I've done wrong without explaining what about it is wrong. Gives lots of feedback to the tune of "your citations are off, if your final draft looks like this, you will fail the paper."
Dr. Morris has very high expectations. I took LAS188 with him and the class size began around 25 and ended at 11. Most probably don't prefer how brash he can be. There is a new style of writing (IMS) that you will need to master to do well in his courses. If you follow his instructions and do everything on time you will do fine.
This is one of the worst teachers I had. I highly recommend not taking this class if you do not need to. He is very rude and claims to be a "non-fuzzy" grader but he is just straight-up rude. He treats this class like it is some scholarly course at Harvard or something yet can not even teach what he preaches so. All the teaching is put upon you.
This was my last semester here at parkland, because of a late rough draft I was docked 95% off my final draft grade leaving me a 5% chance of passing the class, even though this was our first assignment. His rules are so confusing and complicated. No professionalism whatsoever when communicating with him. I would not recommend at all.
I would not recommend taking this professor. For a General Education Requirement, he is an extremely strict grader. After reviewing the feedback of each of my IMs and trying my absolute hardest on the next IM, I still received consistently low grades. This class brought my morale down.
By far the worst teacher I have ever had. This was my last class at Parkland before graduating and now I will have to retake the class
You need to take this class seriously as a difficult class and prepare yourself well if you're not a good writer or reader; he is a tough grader, and you need to listen and read his comments if you want to succeed. Basically, don't be lazy if you want to pass this class, I took the summer online class option, and it was tough enough for me.
Stay Away at all costs. If you want to lower your GPA this is the class to take. How is he still employed with a 1.9 rating. He degrades students.
Not worth your time. Very condescending and disrespectful. Don't even bother making a complaint either because you'll just get told that's just how he is. Will make you feel like a failure and that you are a horrible student. Cannot make any mistakes or your grade will drop overnight. Drop the class. Not worth it!
HORRIBLE! is the best way i can describe this teacher. i have followed his student samples and he is still telling me i messed up. i've done everything he explains, and when i ask him questions it's like he gets annoyed you even ask him for help. just gives you the assignments and it's all up to you to figure things out. NOT A REAL TEACHER!!!
i was failed because i got a D+ on one paper. i would have passed the class with a C but this teacher decided to tell me that no matter what i do i would not pass this class and it was better to just drop the class. i would also like to note the class started with 20 students and when i left there were 8 left.
My experience with this teacher has been horrible and the class just started. Not only did he make negative remarks about someone experiencing racism, but he also belittles his students, grades unfairly, and is unhelpful. I followed the example paper, got an F, & got told I don't try hard enough. He depleted my mental health and my self confidence.
I am studying to be a teacher because I want to educate & help my students. He does NOT do this. I work hard but he made me feel stupid, small, and incapable. He is incredibly rude and does not give any constructive criticism. I don't know why he's allowed to teach.
Ooh Mama Mia. Submit your first paper following the outline? "This is just awful." Use the feedback to write your second "Just reread it." and that's before him disappearing - but your excuses can go in the trash. I dread to think of how many students are left in my class. Avoid it and get your credit literally anywhere else.
Mr Morris is the rudest teacher I have ever met! Not only is he mean, but he also is a terrible grader. He has very few assignments and doesn't give critiques or grades for them until the end of the semester. He also doesn't give constructive criticism or teach at all.
Don't even bother with this teacher. You can follow all the directions and outlines to a T and he will still say “you don't work hard enough” or literally anything he can to demean you. I have never been in such a bad state mentally as I have after taking his class.
Slow with grading and even then his grading is just to call your paper trash. Conveniently waited a week after deadline to give feedback for paper #1 that should have been used to do paper #2, and feedback this time was "this is even worse." Save yourself a headache and avoid, drop, or make sure you refer to him as DOCTOR or he WILL correct you.
Professor Morris is not a teacher. I genuinely think he enjoys being rude. He has typos in his instructions (crazy for an English/LAS teacher) and doesn't teach or help. He takes months to grade and respond, & told me he clearly stated something in the directions that wasn't there (and took points off). He has made my college experience horrible.
Don't take any classes with this teacher! I enjoy writing papers, but I hate this class. He constantly tells me I'm not following instructions (even though I follow his) and that I don't work hard enough. I had a relative with a PHD & MD proofread my paper, and the teacher still gave me an F. He's impossible and contradictory.
Slowest grader ever. He graded a paper due at the end of September in November! His comments are rude & even if you follow his directions he will say you didn't. He's a harsh grader & completely unfair. There are numerous typos in his instructions. He enjoys tearing people down & now I won't graduate this semester because he wants to be difficult.
He's very rude and disrespectful and don't explain nothing right wouldn't take him as a teacher again
He is very difficult to understand, changes his structures offtne session not compheand, very much intimidating with his responses and approach, got anxiety every time I walked in his class. Also not in date with his grading and not likable to communicate with his students does not respond to emails. Terrible proffesor 10/10 fkn no he a -1000000
Awful Professor. I have had bad ones; he is a top 2 worst professor I've had. All papers are about race; if that's your thing, go for it; I wanted a greater diversity (no pun intended) of topics, personally. He was late on grading everything, gave insufficient or vague feedback on all major assignments, and showed no mercy in grading whatsoever.
