hilarious! awesome prof.!
Take this class and you will hate your others

Made me cry. Makes it look like getting a teachers degree at BSU is cakewalk.

Um. He was really really wierd.
I loved this class! Great professor!
Lets just put it this way, he missed class one day to go to a Stones concert.
biker dude. Weird, interesting and easy.
AWESOME prof, very funny, types the notes for you
The easiest HIST 150 proff at BSU, plus just a really cool proff. Great personality. Tests are over exactly what is covered in class.
He was TOO easy...could have been a little more challenging. Also Dr. NEEL is the spelling of his name!
Awesome Prof. for history!!!
Dr. NEEL is amazing! His nonconformism is a breath of fresh air in the BSU atmosphere. With that said, he isn't the *best*...just better than average. Everyone should take his class once.
easiest class at ball state. he's got plenty of funny hippie stories, too.
Great sense of humor, loves to teach
Great prof! I learned a lot. We got to read an awesome book about war, his tests were pretty easy, and we got to hear a lot of four letter words, which I didn't like. Others did however. I would take another class from him if i needed another hist class
He is HOT.
THE STONE'S ROCK!
I had Dr. Neel for 150 and 198 he is an Excellent Professor, very interesting, puts a new perspective on the past. Recommend to anyone to take one of his classes.
Dr. Neel is amazingly funny and has some great stories and seemingly manages to relate all of human history to a rock band from the sixties. His tests are easy and I only read a few pages of the book. If you have a choice Dr. Neel is the way to go!!
Very interesting man with a lot of good stories. Tests come straight from a study guide...one book report at the end, but no big deal. Good, easy course, which is great if you're just wanting to get a core class out of the way.

....I'll give him good stories and decent hardness, granted I failed, but that is because i did not understand the tests
He loves essays and grades them like an English teacher would!
Good teacher... very entertaining to see a guy that looks like him teaching the class the way he does and speaking in certain ways. The venere of that wears off though and his grading can be frustrating. Sometimes I wonder if he has his kids do it or som

Not a bad class at all. Tests come straight from study guides and one paper over a book at the end but nothing to worry about. Great core to take to get it out of the way
One of the easiest classes I've ever had. I didn't even buy the textbook, and I got a B+ in the class. Show up for the review days in class, and you're fine. No matter how awake I was going in to the class, I always fell asleep about 15 minutes into it. Boring class, but nice GPA booster.
From what I've heard about the other History professors he is one of the best! I'm happy I had him! You don't have to know any dates for the tests except a few that he tells you will be on there!
Hope you don't mind listening, because he will lecture up to the point you are walking out the door. Loves the subject of the Vietnam War, and I don't understand how he grades hes book reports; after turning in a decent report, I barely passed.
Dr. Neel is very helpful and cracks a lot of good jokes to make class interesting. He is very approachable and you can tell he truly cares about you succeeding.
it was interesting
Great professor. Keeps the class interesting. Make sure you go to class - he took attendance.
Really cool guy.. nice.. but tests were hard
Dr. Neal is amazing. His lectures are simple and straight to the point. Your grades are based off three exams and one paper. I haven't turned my paper in yet, but it wasn't too difficult to write and I'm expecting a good grade. He is a huge rock fan and manages to connect The Rolling Stones to every lecture. His class is easy class and enjoyable.
Easy A. He types you the notes, you go over them in class and elaborate. His tests have no surprise material, and I barely had to skim the chapters, if at all. The book report was easy, and so what if he grades the paper for proper grammar and spelling. We are in college people! It is an intro class and he will help you. You learn lots!
Amazing Prof. Loved his class - if you go to the "last call" study sessions he goes over WHAT IS ON THE TEST. If you know what he mentions at that you will get an A. Honestly, if you can't get in A in this class you're doing something wrong.Want to take more classes from him - sadly he doesnt teach much else.
Dr. Neel is seriously the easiest teacher I ever. The tests are no surprise they come straight from the printed notes. He even has a study session in class the day before the test. Go to the last minute study session b/c he gives you test questions & extra credit for going. The only thing he grades hard is the book report but it isn't challenging.
was very nice, a little hard to understand and his notes on the board do not make any sense at all. his study guides are not very helpful.. they list a lot of what is going to be on the test, but you have to find all of the info yourself
Barely attended class because his lectures were incomprehensible. He is a nice guy, but his class is a waste of time. I was able to get a high grade and actually pass the class thanks to the TA's study sessions.
awesome guy.
Best professor ever, really easy to understand, notes are what you need to study, the book was barely used. He passes out handouts with the notes on it later in the semester, highlight what he talks about and your golden for the tests. Attend class, and you get credit. If you go on Fruesday he gives extra credit. Study his test reviews. Great guy.
Haven't even had a test yet, and I already consider him one of the worst profs I've had. Class may be extremely easy, but he only has a vague understanding of the material. He makes blatantly false statements on a daily basis. Today he told us that America was "approaching its 200 year anniversary." What a joke. Great example of how not to teach.
I was an avid history lover before this class; however, I find attending class annoying. He's a good guy, but his lectures aren't really worthwhile. He gets off on tangents and tries to make them apply to the topic at hand, but they just don't.
He was an awesome teacher. I loved this class and if I ever needed help he was always there to assist me!
Takes frequent random attendance, but paying attention isn't necessary because he likes to go on tangents. If you have the study guide, notes, and attend his study sessions you will most likely get an A. In the study sessions he goes over everything that is on the test. Funny guy too, love his leather pants!!
While he doesn't take attendance everyday, this class was a HUGE waste of time. you cannot understand anything he says because he strings words together that don't make any sense. if you get him, take your laptop to class because its useless listening. go to the study sessions before the test!
Super Easy, he gives you the answers -all of the answers- the day before the test, just write them down. Bring your laptop to class, or you'll fall asleep.
Pretty easy teacher, but can get a little bit boring, so bring your laptop. He practically gives away the answers to the tests during study sessions, so make sure you go! He also takes random attendance so try to go.
Awesome professor! Wears the same clothes everyday. Very cool and is an old hippie. Test are cake! Go to his review sessions the night before test and you will be fine.
By far my favorite professor I've had this semester. He's a very kind and understanding person and very much a hippie. He wears his leather pants everyday and his beard is like a bib. He has in class study sessions for tests and gives out study guides ahead of time. As long as you know what's on the study guide, you'll do fine.
The class is really easy and if you go to his study sessions you're fine. You don't need to buy the main textbook, but you need the "Thinking through the Past" book. He says "in all actuality" about 15 times each class. He repeats himself a lot. You don't really have to go to class, but I always did. Overall, good professor.
He is my favorite professor I have had so far. He is down to earth and knows the material and makes it available to do well on the tests. Go to the study sessions if you want to do well on the tests. He is a BALLER
Don't buy the book I didn't use it at all. Well we had 2 books and the small one we used once but you could just borrow a friends. He goes over everything you need for the test and gives you a study guide and if you take notes you will be fine but you have to study the tests are not the easiest.
He is definitely one of my favorite professors! He is a cool, laid-back guy. I went to all of the review sessions and filled out my study guides and I got an A in the class. His review sessions are VERY HELPFUL- he goes over just about every question on the exam. Overall, great guy and professor for HIST 101. :D
GREAT PROFESSOR. I have an A in the class and I dont read the book because I attend class every day and take notes and attend one study session. I make flashcards for the test and I do well in the class. If you don't do well in the class then you must be really dense because he makes his expectations so clear in class.BEST PROF HANDS DOWN!
Dr. Neel is a great teacher! Even though sometimes it can be hard to understand, he always hosts an outside study session before each test, and this year he has teacher's assistants that also help by offering study sessions before the test. Generally there are 6 within the week before the test; how can you not pass?
He's funny and interesting as a person, but as a teacher he's not all that clear. He rambles about the material for about 20 minutes, then goes off on a personal rant for the remainder of class. Go to the study guide sessions!! That is your best bet for passing the tests. You basically have to teach yourself.
Professor Neel gives you plenty of opportunities to understand and learn the material. While at times he can rant and go on a tangent you can learn about history from him. I have a strong grade in his course and I have yet to read the book. I have also missed a few classes. If you go to the study sessions you WILL pass this course!!
He is so witty and smart! He really teaches history how it SHOULD be taught - no lies! He's a rebel and makes everyone laugh. Go to the SI study sessions for all the test answers and you'll be fine. Overall easy class.
Makes class fun. Very comical guy. His appearance everyday is worth coming to class for. Take this class.
Professor Neel was a very good teacher. Attendance is not mandatory but you should go since it is a major part of your grade. Go to the study sessions and pay attention.
I have always hated history but he made history interesting but you do have to put fort some effort. He is the best history professor that I have ever had.
Dr. Neel is the man! One of the best teachers I've ever had. He is hilarious and has plenty of fun stories to tell every day during class. Go to the study sessions and pay attention to what he says. This is a good class for the average student. Highly recommended.
I honestly hated this class. You couldn't understand him at all about what he was actually talking about. He was VERYYYY boring too!! His tests are super hard and you have to go to the TA sessions to even think about passing for it. Hope you get use to hard core studying if you take him. Don't take him. I only did from these comments on here.
Awesome man! Attend class, sit up front and pay attention. He hints at test and essay questions during lectures. Make note! Don't wait until test time to work on study guide. Keep up with it. Attend test study session. With this and his lecture hints, you are given most of the test and essay questions. He makes it nearly impossible to fail.
The class itself is boring, but he is a really nice guy and will work with your schedules and try to help as much as possible. There are MANY study sessions, and I HIGHLY suggest going to the ones the week before tests. They are VERY useful!
AWESOME! one of the coolest and best professors on campus! He is a hippie biker. his tests are OK, go to a study session and youll get an A or at least a B.
Professor Neel is a funny guy. He's really boring, lectures the whole class. You don't need to take notes. Go to the study sessions and they give you the answers to the entire test. As long as you study the study guide you're golden. Randomly takes attendance for 60 points.
Very easy class if you listen to him during lecture. Sit towards front so that you can hear him. Use study guides and go to study sessions they help overall a pretty easy class!!
His tests are hard because his lectures make no sense half of the time. He will get off topic a lot and go out of order. He is a very nice and understanding guy and wants the best for his students. Takes random attendance. The study sessions are very helpful.
Easy teacher. Fun class. Go to study sessions!!!!!
Go to the TA and SI study sessions and you will get an A. as far as Dr. Neel goes he is a nice guy and knows history but he lectures for about 20 minutes and then goes off topic and rants about politics, religion, and about hippies. Class is easy if you go to TA or SI sessions.
Cool teacher but goes off topic way too much. You have to attend the study sessions to pass this class because its almost impossible to take notes on his lectures. his beard is pretty wicked though
Down to earth biker dude, that has cool stories. Tells you whats on the test multiple times and supplies multiple study guides and study sessions. Easiest history class I have ever taken.
Dr. Neel is a great guy with lots of funny stories and interesting ideas. There are only a few tests, so they contain a whole lot of information which can be difficult. Be sure to study. Overall good class!
Great man! Down to earth and quite amusing during class. He always made sure we had the notes we needed and would work with you if you needed it. Tests -are- difficult and I would advise making it to at least one study session. Does not take hours to study so you should be fine
Thank goodness for TA's. Without them, I would have no idea what to study for. Class is awful, because he rambles the whole time, but go for attendance. Don't buy the book, just go to the study sessions and you'll be fine.
Cool guy, but his lectures were long and boring. He does post the notes online but the real help is from the SI sessions. If you go to the SI sessions once or twice a week it helps a lot. He also drops the lowest test score. Don't bring your laptop or you'll just end up on Facebook or playing games.
So the online class pretty much consists of paraphrasing the entire textbook. He is pretty flexible with grading, especially if you made an obvious effort.
This class is extremely easy. My recommendation would be to go to study sessions. He uses the same terminology every year so your study guide leader should be able to tell you exactly what's on the test. The book is pretty much useless, just make sure to have a basic knowledge of the terms from the book and you'll get an A on the test.
I take this class in Fall 2013. He has less HW, less project. Don't buy textbook, you can take notes or not. If you you want to get A, just go to study session, you will get all exam question keys from these nice lovely SI assistant. Take this class, don;t buy book, don;t take notes then go to SI-memorize everything-well done with Exams~

Really funny guy, and always willing to help. But the textbook is useless and it's hard to take notes in his lectures. Without the SI sessions I'd be lost. I recommend going to every study&SI session.
If I was just talking to him and not in his class I would love listening to him. However, he rambles a lot and doesn't lecture very clearly. READ the book. It's the best way to pass his test. He tells you what to study right before the test. He is a wonderful person but not a great teacher.
Greatest professor I've ever had! He always makes class interesting and extremely funny
Dr. Neel is a funny guy, but his lectures can drag on. Before every exam, he has a study guide that he goes over with you so taking notes isn't a necessity. I never opened the book. We had three assignments the entire semester, and three exams including the final. So you don't have many opportunities to make up points you missed.
The only grades in the class are the three tests you take. If you show up to class and take notes the tests are CAKE. He and his TAs always have study session and he tells you EVERYTHING that is going to be on the test during the study session which he holds the class before the test. He is interesting and pretty funny. Sometimes opinionated.
I really like this class. His class is 90% lecture and 10% doodle-notes, which some people don't like. It's important to go to class and take good notes, but it's not hard. Study sessions are really really helpful! He's a really nice, funny guy that will answer your questions.
The tests are incredibly easy.
Dr. Neel is the type of teacher you love, or can't stand. His tests are straightforward, and if you attend the study sessions he and his TAs hold, the tests are SUPER easy. Really nice guy, and does occasionally add some opinions into his lecture, but he doesn't try to be persuasive about it either, besides that I generally agreed with him anyway.
I tend to use his class as a study hall- I do other homework and don't pay attention. He is interesting if you listen, but he tends to be very boring and confusing. As long as you go to the study sessions outside of class you will easily get A's on the tests! No homeworkpapers. Only 2 tests and a midterm! He will drop your lowest grade
He wears leather pants and is awesome
Lectures are very old school, he doesn't use any technology at all. His class can be fairly boring, but he does post his notes online. The only way to get an A in this class is to attend the supplemental instructions offered by the learning center. Attendance is taken 20 times and is mandatory. Only three tests and attendance, lowest one dropped.
Not a fan of History classes but his was by far the easiest I have taken. Lectures were boring but he took attendance so you had to show up. Didn't need the book and very rarely gave assignments. His exams were so easy if you did the study guide and went to the 'Study Session' that the TA held before every exam. Super easy, no textbook needed
Dr. Neel is a really great professor. Although, his class is not necessarily easy to pass he does want his students to succeed. There are only 3 tests and attendance is part of your grade. He randomly takes attendance so be sure to attend class. You DO NOT need to buy the textbook. All around a good class. Dr. Neel is awesome!
Dr. Neel was a great history professor. He only gave three tests (including the final) and only took attendance a total of 20 times. He provides notes after the first week or so and offers review sessions around the date of the test. Everything needed for the exams is reviewed just before in his sessions as well as the SI and TA sessions.
Dr. Neel is an old-fashioned professor. He doesn't use any technology in his lectures, which mean that it can get pretty boring. He takes attendance, but you don't have to go to get an A. Make sure you study for exams though, cause they are pretty tough. There are some questions from the textbook on exams, but you won't need to buy it.
He's really entertaining in class. There are only a few tests and no homework, so he takes attendance every few days for points. There are study sessions before the tests where they go over the study guide and tell you EXACTLY what to know, and Dr. Neel gives extra credit if you go to his study session. I went and got 100% on the first test.
He is an amazing professor. He is funny and connects well with students as well as being helpful person. He clearly gives lectures off of notes that he posts to blackboard so you can follow along and makes notes. Has many study sessions to give you the best opportunity to pass his class. He is willing to help you and always answers questions.
Doc Neel is great! If you go to the review sessions before the tests, you'll do great. Attendance is a big part of the grade, so make sure to get to class!
Great professor. Last year teaching but he will be missed! Great guy and funny as hell!
I Loved having him as my Professor, I'm really sad I can't have another class with him. His lectures do get kind of boring but he's entertaining enough to make it worth going. He's totally cool too. Test are easy if you study. Go to the study Sessions Especially Clair's. SO HELPFUL. P.s. all notes are posted online!
He is an amazing prof!! I would love to be able to take him again but he is retiring. You don't need the book at all he goes over the reading material in class and all the notes for what he lectures over are posted online. He is one of the coolest and most laid back people i've met! Enjoy class with him he is amazing!!!!!!!
Overall, he was a really cool teacher. He tends to go on long rants about topics that don't seem relevant to what we are learning, and he tries to be funny. He is very kind, but rarely gets back to students via email or the otherwise. The class had 3 tests, including the final, and they weren't too bad, having studied.
Funny and great guy! But he's lectures are too long and confusing. The only grades he gives are test, so if your horrible at test I would pass on him.
HES AN AWESOME GUY, but class is super boring. Tests are pretty tough because he gets off topic easily in class but go to his SI's study sessions and his study sessions and you will get extra credit and are guaranteed to pass.
