Professor Neufeld is a perfect teacher. He has so useful lecture.
Lenient grader when it comes to paper. He doesn't penalize you very hard for getting answers slightly off. Gives very good lectures and is very good at making the material clear. Tests are fairly difficult but should be manageable.
Though I got a B, I can safely say it was my fault. He's a fair professor who is a lenient grader and almost never picks difficult questions for his tests. Do his assigned homework, pay attention in class, and you will have a great chance for an A. The only heads up I would give, especially for calc, is that he doesn't curve or give extra credit.
Professor Neufeld explains his lectures very throughly, however, his grading is VERY picky and concise with what he wants when it comes to quizzes and exams. He does not have any wiggle room and will not round your grade up by any means. Also super difficult to get an A, but a B is manageable if you do the problems on his study guides.
Hes great at explaining the material. Thats his only positive attribute. We have weekly quizzes, which tend to do more harm than good. Tests are few questions, so one problem wrong and you just lose 15%. He gives some partial credit if you made a small mistake. There is just no way to earn points in this class besides tests and quizzes. Hes picky
Richard is awesome and great at explaining concepts, put in the work and you will definitely be walking away amazed and having amassed considerable knowledge in stats. At the end of the day it is a math class, and you reap what you sow.
I was scared going into Stats, but this professor is the best. Whatever he teaches will be exactly on the test. He makes you use the calculator for everything, so not that much written equations. He explains really clear, and will clarify if you don't understand. I highly encourage you to take him, one of the best professors in the math department.
Everything he teaches in the lectures is exactly whats on the tests. The only thing I hated in this class was the quizzes every Monday, I'm sorry but nobody is going to study every weekend for a quiz. Other than that his test are very clear and easy if you studied the notes. No homework, and don't really need a textbook
Mr. Neufeld is the best calculus teacher in GCC math department. He likes and knows math very well. Professor Neufeld is a very fair grader and respects students. He explains difficult stuff in detail and makes sure everyone understands. He never screams when someone asks a question, instead, he patiently answers. I strongly recommend him.
His lectures were very clear. Anything he says goes on the board. Tests are pretty straight-forward, based on the lecture. He assigns homework but doesn't collect it. A fair grader and gives partial credit. There are quizzes every week but he drops the lowest one. He made calculus seem easier than it sounds. Loved it!
The best professor, that I have ever seen. He is amazing and knows how to help the student to easily overcome the math issues and quickly learn the skills and be prepared for future difficulties. Gives the extra credits that help the students to get a good grade at the end. The best one!!!
Im terrible at math but he made the class somewhat understandable. The tests aren't difficult bc he lets you know what you need to study, but he gives quizzes every single week and on Mondays too, it brought my grade down a lot. Homework is not mandatory but helps. If you really enjoy math you will do great, if you're not a fan you will still pass
4 exams+final, quiz every Monday, homework isn't collected. Hes the best math professor I've ever had. He isn't easy, but hes amazing at teaching. He can teach calculus to anyone. He'll teach you so well that you'll think the class is easy. Now, you still have to put in A LOT of work, you wont pass if you're lazy. But he makes an "A" very doable.
Neufeld is something else. He'll teach you and keep going even if your lost and behind. When you ask for clarification he'll explain the same way. You had to learn the formulas and later know how to plug it into your calculator, which is pointless. He had office hours which didn't help clarify. He is a math guy.
When enrolling in this class I was scared of having the same horrible experience as in 103, but was fortunate enough to have Richard Neufeld as my professor. You can see how much work he puts in organizing his notes and transferring it to his students. Very passionate and respectful. He asks exactly what he teaches in a fair manner! Take him!
there's a dark side to calc that he will not walk you into, totally recommended.
Neufeld is a gem. I'm taking him for stats right now and am basically acing the class. He's very clear in his explanations. One thing that kinda sucks is there's a quiz every Monday. But other than that as long as you show up and pay attention, you'll do pretty well in the class.
He lectures and teaches fine and hes approachable and explains well 1 on 1 but the problem is he lectures too long on each example in class and doesnt do enough so when it comes to HW a lot of the stuff is unclear which sucks because his study guide is literally the hw and if most of the HW is unclear then the test becomes difficult.
Intelligent man. It's a math class, what can you expect? Do the homework, watch videos on Youtube if you get stuck, and pay attention in class. Tests and quizzes are straightforward. He wants you to pass, but you have to put in the work.
Probably one of the best math teachers at GCC. Take him. If you're a math, physics, or engineering major, he is solid for you. He is passionate about the subject, which is nice. Calculus 2 is a tough class, but if you put in the work, it is doable. He goes by the book in his lectures, but he does a great job simplifying it.
Professor Neufeld is the best math professor I have had at GCC. Calc 2 is not an easy subject, so it is your responsibility to put the time in studying. Class was 4 tests, weekly quizzes, and a final. Make sure to study for quizzes and studying for the tests will be a breeze. Use his study guides and get extra help if you need it. Very fair teacher
I took him for cal2, does an okay job for notes, however when it comes to doing his own hw around chapter 7 sec 7.5, he freezes and wastes the review day and he wont even answer the question. Words he will say in class will be "um, oops, teaching technique" you will get annoyed. Also ask him a question and he will run in circles and wont answer it.
Take Richard! GCC has terrible math teachers and this is an actual good one. I'm an English major who sucks at math and I still got an A with moderate effort. Just write everything he puts on the board down and study that. I never opened the book or did an ounce of homework. Make sure you know his in-class examples like the back of your hand.
I had him for both calc 1 and 2. Hes easily my favorite professor I've had while at gcc. Hes really good at breaking down the material in his lectures. He just makes the the concepts make sense unlike many of my other math professors. Hes a pretty chill guy and really helpful in office hours.
The behavior that this man exhibited was iconic. The legend jumped out, and then it jumped back in. I really hate math but he is the only professor who has made it tolerable for me. Quizzes and tests are like homework, so get on that homework. No tricks also no extra credit but you wont even need it if you do your job. He deserves a raise, periodT
He made Calc 3 so easy and fun! He is very nice and friendly, and answers all your questions. He puts the time and effort for his students and wants everyone to do well. He really is passionate about what he teaches and that had an affect on me as well! He is very organized too. His tests are fare and similar to the hw. I will miss this class! :(
I have come to realize that GCC needs more math professors like Prof. Richard Neufeld. He is the best math professor who actually knows mathematics very well. I think he is a great mathematician who explains deep concepts in an excellent manner. I have taken others but none can compete with Richard Neufeld. He is simply excellent. Take him def.
His class relies more on lecture notes, than the actual book. I say that because, majority of the material is straight forward and right out of the text book, but the actual difficult material is taken from his notes. Just to give you an example, he assigns odds as homework, but the question on the test was an even, and tutors could barely solve it
Professor Neufeld has a reputation for being an easy teacher, but I wouldn't say that's it. He's really good when it comes to lecture, and he really ingrains the important concepts of math you need to know. His tests and quizzes are solid reflections of what you learned, having a decent mix of easy, medium, and a few hard problems. He's great!
I dont know him that well i had him for a short period of time, but i like him so much. He is approachable and is willing to help you out to do well. If i had to take math or any calc course i will definitely take it with him.
He is a very good teacher. His notes are extremely helpful and amazing, and hes always willing to answer any questions. There are 4 midterms and the final, plus a quiz every week. All the quizzes together count as a midterm grade. I really enjoyed his class.
This is my second math class with him and I think he's overall a wonderful mathematician. Don't miss out on the homework. Odds and evens. All the quizzes/exams come directly from there.
One of the best if not the best math teacher Ive ever had. Took him for math 136 and his lectures were amazing and the tests and quizzes were straight from the homework. Very straight forward class and most of the class is done with a graphing calculator.
Neufeld is a great mathematics teacher. His lectures are interesting, and he is clearly passionate about the subject. Homework is given but it's not graded, so it's your responsibility to keep up with the class. His tests are straightforward, basically picking certain questions from homework. Only negative was the scheduling for the class
Professor Neufeld was amazing. He set out the guidelines clear and simple and set you up for Calculus if you were in his Precalculus class. Very informative and gives you partial credit on tests and can understand and work with students who are putting in the effort. My grade was purely due to my laziness, so you could easily get that A!
Richard Neufeld knows how to teach the given subject material very well. He is extremely patient and quite willing to help anyone who is unsure or confused. You can easily tell he is passionate about math. Having a professor like him just makes going to class more enjoyable. I highly recommend!
Prof. Neufeld was by far the best math professor I have had. His class is fairly simple and the best way to study is to do all the hw and attend lectures. We had quizzes every week (drops lowest quiz) which were basically hw problems and our exams were also all hw problems. He was super nice and very caring. Highly highly recommend for statistics.
I had him for multivariable calc during a 5-week semester. He is a good person and the first few weeks of his class were pretty good. However, the class will start to increase in intensity during week four. You have to stay current with your homework or else you will do poorly despite doing well in the first few weeks of the course.
Took him for Calc III over the winter and Calc I a while back. Couldn't have asked for a better professor in the 5 weeks. Very patient and his explanation of the material is clear and concise. Quizzes are frequent but carbon copy of the HW. Tests are also near identical to homework so just do and understand all odds and evens and you're golden.
Im taking richard rn and i already know ima get an A not only is he nice asf but at the end of the day he teaches the material very well. Test are based off the hw. Would recommend 100% he is a fat boost for stats.
BEST TEACHER IVE EVER TAKEN AT GCC! I was so worried since Id heard that gcc math teachers aren't that good but thankfully I chose Richard for Stats and Im so happy with my grades right now! He is so caring and uploads all the lectures online with his notes so if you missed class, you're ok! He gives quizzes once a week which help boost your grade!
If you didn't take Neufeld at gcc, did you really experience math class?
He's a good teacher in actual class but over zoom, he is not as good when it comes to answering emails, questions, or replying in general. He changed his whole format after we went online and everything got 100x harder. Def would not take if it's a remote course. He doesnt even tell you what you did wrong on the tests and just gives a grade. Drop!
Professor Neufeld is your best choice for any calculus course at gcc. The material is difficult, but he does an excellent job breaking it down for you. He is like the Ghirardelli of candy while other professors at gcc are straight up candy corn. He is great!
Professor Neufeld was one of the most memorable professors that I ever had from GCC. I thought Id always hated math, but his Calc 2 class showed me how math can be beautiful and interesting. His class was not about homework and problems, but about understanding the concepts behind it all. Best math prof Ive ever had, I still remember his lectures
Richard made stats very straightforward. He is not outdated and doesn't require a lot of hand calculations. Whenver possible, he asks you to use statcrunch. The exams are very fair and based on material he teaches. I liked how attendence (on zoom) wasn't mandatory and he didn't require turning on your camera. You will have a easy quiz every week.
Richard Neufeld is a true gem at Glendale Community College. He is a pure mathematician with great knowledge of mathematics. His lectures are just perfect for those who want to learn math. The lecture notes are sometimes better than the textbook. DE is a hard class but he makes the concepts easier to grasp and apply. Take him for sure!
This is my second semester with professor Neufeld, he is caring and he loves when you ask questions during the class, he as office hours literally everyday, so your questions won't be left unanswered. His lectures are short and interesting linear algebra and calc3 are not easy, so your home activity and the time you set each week must be enough
Not much to say other than you will have fun learning in this class, makes math really easy to understand. Homework can be long If you don't do it everyday, quizzes are heavily focused on your homework.
Honestly just don't procrastinate on the hw and listen to his lectures because that's the best way you'll get an A in this class. I'm not too crazy about Stats but he literally explained everything so well and the tests were manageable. I promise if you keep up on the HW, do his study guides, and listen to his lectures you're chillin
2 hours is unfortunately not enough time to finish an exam for a student with average math skills. Quizzes do not help your grade, it is solely based on how well you do on the 5 exams. He's a nice guy but I do not recommend him.
He's nice and kind. When it comes to his tests, it is super hard even after studying for so long. Gives study guides but it's the homework problems to do, none of it is on the test. I really did not know what to study to pass. Very hard wouldn't recommend especially in-person tests.
I had to drop this class due to very poor exam scores. I studied a lot, did all of the hw and aced all of the take home quizzes. What killed my grade were the exams. He gives 7-8 questions on exams, with parts a-d sometimes, and on top of the problems being difficult, we were only given 1 hr for the exam. Very unfair/stressful testing style.
Legendary.
He's not a bad guy, he's quite nice but his exams are difficult. He gives 1 quiz each week that SOMEWHAT prepares you for the exams and he allowed us to coordinate with the class on quizzes . Exams are solely hit or miss and do EXTREMELY well on the first exam as the rest are way more difficult compared to the first. Btw he does not record on zoom.
This class is very interesting. While Statistics is not too easy for Maths' non-majors, you can get an A if you listen to lectures and do homework. Professor Neufeld gives 1 quiz for each week that mostly comes from the homework problems. Exams are also very similar to homework questions. Professor is very kind, grades as high as it is possible.
Best stats teacher at GCC. Look no further. His class is very test heavy and you won't really pass if you don;t do the homework, but he's a great professor.
Professor Neufeld is by far the absolute worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life.He is a poor excuse for a mathematics teacher. He does not even know how to spell correctly. He has to redo the same problem about four times so he can get it correct, the students correct him and are the ones that actually guide him through the problem.DONT TAKE
He's nice and cool. But When it comes to his tests, it is super hard even after studying for hours. He Gives study guides but it's the homework problems to do and none of it shows up on the test. Very hard Grader. tons of quizzes but if you don't do well on the tests you're done out.
I honestly can not tell you where he got his degree from. He cant even solve his own problems and students guide him through it. It's so sad seeing how a math professor with a degree is incapable of teaching a subject he went to school for. He also has a very hard time spelling, I also can not tell you where he learned how to spell.
Professor Nuefeld is a very kind, caring professor but unfortunately, I had to drop from the class. He only grades quizzes and tests, which make it difficult to score higher. I have a 4.00 and had to drop for the sake of my GPA as I had a 40% in the class. I would recommend steering clear if math is not your strong suit.
I took him spring 2022 semester for 110B in person. His tests are a bit hard but if you do the homework consistently then you will get an A on them. Just be consistent with homework and do every question, the tests are literally all hw questions.
Great prof. Exams aren't too difficult and all the problems are from the textbook, make sure you review the study guide. He really loves math and does a great job explaining the topics thoroughly. Quizzes are actually homework almost every weekend and easy points. Gives a lot of partial points on exams for incorrect answers if you show work.
Professor Neufeld is one of the few good math teachers at GCC and I mean that, he is one of the best when it comes to getting the students to absorb the information. His lectures are broken down in a way where he explains the methods of how to prove and solve every example he gives His tests are also straight out of the book. Take His Class!!!
The professor himself was nice, but his class was ridiculously hard.He gives a ton of Hw and quizzes but considering the subject that part is not so bad. However, they don't match the exams and it feels like no matter how much you study, you just cant be prepared enough for them. Also, he never gives enough time to finish the exams and its stressful
I took this professor for precalc and I'm glad I did so. His lectures are great and he makes even the most complex material simple to understand. A lot of your grade is based on 4 midterm exams and a final exam. But as long as you take the time to study out of class, it isn't that big of a worry. I would 100% take his class again if I could.
Took years ago, finished my degree in STEM. He was the toughest prof I had. Strict with schedule, had an emergency on campus during review day and he didn't want to push back the exam day, Inflexible. Stingy grader, had to go to office hours to get points back. If u aren't studying at least 8 hours a week, ur toast. He's a smart guy but a tough prof
Professor Neufeld is super nice and helpful, so don't be scared to ask any questions in and outside of class! Workwise, as long as you spend time and know how to solve the homework problems from the textbook, you'll do extremely well on the exams. Plus, a lot of the concepts you'll learn in this class are connected. Overall I enjoyed this class!
not good. Do to take unless willing to sped 7 hours a day on doing homework in a spring semester not winter. Started off great, very good lectures and slowly got worse and worse. Rn when he teaches, its as if he's talking to an empty classroom, people stopped taking notes.
This guy assigned so much homework I could wipe my tooshie with it. Get ready to do your average 400 homework problems before each exam!
Yeah no
Amazing teacher, clearly knows almost if not everything he teaches. You can tell he truly enjoys what he does, or at least how he comes off as. Amazing lectures, he starts on the dot and ends on the dot. Never canceled class, his exams were super reasonable and fair. He helps a lot in office hours. He is a tough grader so be neat and organized.
Prof Neufeld's course is so fun and informative. His lectures are perfectly seasoned with math humor and historical facts. He is a young enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructor who reminded me how beautiful Math can be. He gives weekly problem sets from the week's lecture material. Office hours can get busy. Be attentive to all info abt exams!
A terrific professor with the best and most useful lectures. The lectures are engaging, and he is prepared to take the time to answer student questions in a helpful manner. Test questions are very fair and he often gave us a heads-up as to specific topics to expect. He gives partial credit as long as you show some work and knowledge.
Worst experience I had in college.
pros - He communicates well. If You're late on an assignment or something like that, just talk to him. Accessible outside class. cons - I genuinely would fall asleep during the lectures, just because of how slow paced he was. I learned most of the stuff by reading the textbook. You're better off if You just take Jacob Love.
Avoid this professor. Despite maintaining a 4.0 GPA, his class ruined it. He promised easier quizzes, but instead chose extremely difficult problems. When I asked for help, all he said was "try your best." Now, my grade is a major setback for my transfer, and this class is jeopardizing my academic future.
Professor Nuefeld is a great professor and is very generous with partial credit. He makes sure you know what is on the exams or quizzes before you take them and teaches very well. You can tell he actually knows what he's talking about. I dropped because of my own mistakes, not his. Would definitely take him again given the opportunity.
do the additional problems and your good
Professor Neufeld is possibly the best math professor at the college. One of the few to understand that he is the one with the masters in mathematics, and that students are just trying to get by. Regrettably failed the course of my own error but will happily take again next semester. Take good notes, make use of his practice exams, and office hours
Professor Neufeld is an amazing professor who genuinely cares about mathematics and helping every student. He spends a lot of time explaining concepts to those who get confused during lectures. His office hours are great, and he grades very fairly, if you get something wrong, it's on you. I would definitely recommend taking his class.
His lectures and notes are incredibly organized and thorough. He explains what is gonna be on each test and posts the exams he gave from the previous semester (which tend to be pretty similar). Homework is very little but there is optional homework to help you study for the exams which are super useful.
Took him over winter during the fires. He's a really good professor, but tests are very hard and he didn't make things any easier despite the situation. 7-8 units in 4 weeks was ridiculous. This class beat the life out of me. All of that for a B+ that I'm salty about. Would take him again under normal circumstances. I learned very well from him.
The legend himself. The GOAT.
He does not know how to grade anything. He will read half the answer and grade it based off that half and not the full thing. Terrible grader
Professor Neufeld is the best!!! I took three classes with him and would take many more if I had the opportunity. His lectures are consistently of excellent quality. The testing and grading criteria are very fair. He is kind, funny, and always ready to explain if you have questions.
Neufeld is quite literally one of the best math professors at GCC. He really cares about his students succeeding and he's one of the best lecturers I've ever had. Tests and quizzes are very fair if you study and do the problems he assigns.
Course was difficult lots of ppl dropped. The lectures he gives are him solving basic questions and the tests and homework are nothing like the examples he gives. You get a quiz every Monday with 3 questions, and they count at the same percentage as the tests. He gives partial points, but that didn't help. You need to put in LOTS of time to study.
Professor Neufeld is very sweet and his lectures are amazing. He's very open to questions and will take time to solve any problem you don't understand. However, his grades are only based on tests which are difficult and the majority of the class dropped. There are no extra credit opportunities.
All the credit fotr the class comes from exam grades so be ready for that.
Professor Neufeld is genuinely one of the best professors I have had. His lectures are very organized, easily accessible, and are easy to follow. The class is heavily based on exams and quizzes, with weekly quizzes on Mondays which are not too difficult. As long as you do the recommended practice problems from the textbook you will do well.
