Great teacher! Explains well. No homework, just test and lectures. He uses great examples to explain the material and he always answers his emails.

Dr. Newtson is a great professor. He is entertaining and adds a lot of "real world" appeal to his class. Do the extra credit assignments and reading and you should be able to make an A in this class...just put a little time into studying and read the book.

Internet class is great if you do all the reading AND attend review classes. He lectures great. Must read all the material and will do ok. Gives every chance to get a good grade. JUST ASK and you can do extra credit.

Great teacher! I had him for Intro to Soc and loved it so I decided to take his ITDS course on Asian religions! It was great! Most of the class was spent talking about Buddhism, but we also spent time studying Shinto. The movies were great and a good way to help learn the material.

Take any class he teaches if you have a chance. One of the best teachers at CSU. He encourages discussion and respects your opinion. He wants students to do well in his class and sets the syllabus up so that if you come to class and participate in the online discussions, pay attention in class and do the reading you should make an A.

I had him for the short Maymester course and loved it! He is great at keeping students interested and he is fair in the way he treats students. I would encourage all students at CSU to take one of his courses!

Great professor. Easy-going. Very interesting. Goes out of his way to try and help students learn the material...even if that means leading optional study sessions on Sundays before tests! Like someone else wrote, I don't understand why he's at CSU.

He definately knows his stuff when it comes to sociology and makes it easy for all students to learn. Has extra credit and the test aren't too bad.

One of my all time favorite teachers. His class is very interactive and it's easy to pay attention. His exams are fair and ask the most important questions, as well as some amusing ones.

Well, I took an online class for Maymester and though this is a feat in itself he made it easy on WebCT because he has Powerpoint slides for notes which is the majority of the test material. He also has video of him lecturing and that really clariies things. He definitely calls you back when you need it. Loved his class, even if it was online!!

If you are taking a class with Dr. Newtson be prepared for a totally different experience. He's energetic, helpful, and cares about his students. He encourages discussion which makes his classes very interesting. Take a class with him if you have a chance, he'll change your perspective on Sociology.

Very cool professor. I took his class at 8 am and he kept me awake and interested all semester. Lots of fun, great sense of humor. Makes it very clear what you need to do to make a good grade. Need to be in class regularly though..lots of notes. Offers a Sunday study session to help students before tests. Cares about students & he is hot too !

By far my favorite teacher. This man is so cool and so easy. I loved this class and I can't wait to take him again. Study the power point a little and listen when he talks. Attend his review sessions. He only gives four tests so that's four Sunday's during the semester that you will have to come to school and you will make an "A".

Dr. Newtson was an outstanding professor; I still quote some of the things I learned in his class (and I had him a year-and-a-half ago). Even though he was very liberal--and made it known to the class that he was--I still LOVED him. Has a wonderful sense of humor and a unique style of teaching that's unforgetable.

Awesome teacher. The best I have ever had, actually. The book is hardly used. Study his slides and show up for study sessions. Dr. N is very passionate about the material, And he is 110% hot, so I never fell asleep during his 8 am class.

I took his online class and he was very helpful. His power points and clips helped to explain the material. At first, the class seemed hard but he gives a lot of extra credit, which can make a letter grade difference. There are three tests and the final and he drops your lowest test grade (but it can't be the final).

Good teacher and fun class, but be sure to check everything he does. I witnessed a student go from an F to an A because he forgot to add up the grades for her. Sometimes shows up to class unprepared. Overall a good teacher though, just needs someone to come behind him and double check his work.

Dr. Newtson is great. He's funny, smart, entertaining, and a graet professor. He is always willing to talk and help outside class. His SOCI classes are great and his ITDS Asian Religion class was freakin sweet. Of course I like that stuff so that one is your call. Sign up for his classes whenever you can!

Awesome teacher makes sociology really interesting. Just don't take a morning class, attendance was not mandatory so I barely went which is the only reason I made a B.

I took this class online. You have to read the book, and go over the powerpoints. If you don't read for classes that you take in person, I advise not taking this class. Professor Newtson was available if I ever had a question or needed help.

Has interesting lectures. Kind of tricky on his tests. Four tests total. Not everything in his lecture pertains to the test.

Dr. Newtson's class was wonderful. Even though I took this class online instead of in person, I could tell he was very organized and precise when teaching the class - we always had a powerpoint presentation and an audio file with his lectures at the tips of our fingers. Make sure you read the text and listen to the audio!

Thoroughly enjoyed this course . . mostly because of Dr. Newtson. excellent professor! He made the subject matter interesting. I took the online section of this course. he includes recorded lecture with his powerpoint for each chapter . . . gives you the feeling that you are actually in the classroom. Very knowledgeable! A+ for Dr. Newtson!!

I love Dr. Newtson. I've only had him online, which will be changing soon. I've taken 3 classes with him so far, and have only gotten A's. Not hard at all to pass. He can be a little disorganized at times, and when he messes up a deadline he'll make up some bogus reason (The FBI came to his house to interrogate him) but it's really just funny.

This class was one the best classes. I really enjoyed and learned from this class. Dr. Newtson is the great professor who concerns about students, too. I would take his class as much as possible.

Took his class online and it was the easiest class i've taken so far at CSU. Consists of weekly quizzes (which you can use the book for) and 4 discussions and 4 labs. VERY easy. Dr. Newtson is really helpful and understanding. Definitely recommend :)

This class was my first online class and it was an awesome experience. He makes things very clear and he sends reminders on due dates. He is a great professor overall.

Please if you get a chance take him. He bends over backwards to make sure that everyone understands,and passes his classses. I went into Research Methods scared. I don't really care for any type of math, and SPSS was no joke. He gave plenty of labs, and online quizzes that really helped. I came out of this class with a "B". Just take him....

Class was online. Gives you alot of material to study for the weekly tests. Tests are 30 questions each and all of the answers are in your textbook. The final is not mandatory and will only give you extra credit. 1 test and 1 discussion post each wk. 2 Lab assignments that require you to watch cartoons and visit a store that are easy. I loved this class. He was very easy to listen to; not those teacher who talk just to talk. He took pride in his class and in sociology. Prepares you for tests well and they are NOT hard.

I took online, was very easy. Weekly discussions along with weekly quizzes (25 questions each). There are also 2 labs and 2 exercises. They are all extremely easy. I didn't use the book, just googled questions when taking the quizzes and made a high B. You can take each quiz twice and the final is optional.

Everything is laid out in the beginning of the semester so you're able to finish it all in a week or so. I made an A in the class.

Dr. Newtson is fantastic, everything is laid out for you at the beginning of the semster, all you need to do is go through the material at your own pace. Plenty of time give for everything, and it may seem like loads of work at the beginning but it's actually pretty easy.

GREAT! This was an excellent class and was guided by an excellent professor. He was very organized and spaced the information out to allow time to absorb it. Very well presented. Newtson's class is easy and super interesting. All your test and quizzes are online. You do need the book cause that's what the quizzes are on, but you can get the it cheap on a kindle app. His exams are on his lecture so you should go to class, but he doesn't take role. I loved his class especially the discussion days. Would recommend.

Professor Newtson is an amazing teacher. He is very good at responding to emails and helping you on assignments if you truly do not understand them. He lays everything out for you and what to expect for the semester which is great. I would recommend his class to anyone.

The best professor I've had so far and this is my 2nd year at Columbus State. He lets you know from the beginning how his class is going to be. Even though I took him online I still learned a lot

His lectures are really awesome. Really funny and relatable. However, if you read the book, do all the activities, and go to the extra credit sociology tutoring, you really don't have to go to class and you will still do fine on the test. Make sure to take thorough notes and if you do go to class, take notes on the major points he goes over.

Class lectures are fun and interesting. The textbook wasn't really necessary for me, it was an easy class.

Newtson is a great professor. You don't need a textbook, but you do need to go to his lectures. A lot of the test material are stories he's told in class. He gives out lots of extra credit opportunities, so you can easily make an A. All quizzes and test are online.

He is an enthusiastic person and he will tell lots of stories. His tests were all online which made it nice. Make sure you get the glossary. Gives lots of extra credit points if you take the trip to the tuskegee institute.

Professor Newtson was by far my favorite professor this semester and his class was nothing but interesting. I see a lot of people saying you don't need the book, but he will not grade your first test(it's the only in class and will not drop this test) if you don't bring/have it. I have taken multiple classes of his because I am a Sociology major. He always makes the classes interesting. If you have his online classes, you wont really need your book because he posts all you need to know on cougarview.

Take the class, it should be an easy A. You need both books, and you really do have to go to lecture and listen, most of his material is from his anecdotes and the books! All of his tests and quizzes are online, and he gives extra credit. My only complaint is his quizzes are all 25 questions, so if you miss 4, you have a B.

I probably would have done better if I took this class in person, but Dr. Newtson is very organized with his lesson and very helpful with those confused. One thing I didn't like was buying two textbooks, one of which was near impossible to find.

I found his class so interesting. Hes does very good about keeping it entertaining. Hes funny. Two books are required but the best part of his class is that EVERY test is online. It makes it SO much better. You get in an easy routine and he provides SO MANY resources. 10/10 recommend this class.

his lectures are always interesting and fun. gets off topic easily but posts his powerpoints. print them out to take notes on. chapter quizzes are for you to do at home. they can be tough just make sure to read the chapter. always go the day after the quiz, if little people are there he does a question on the quiz about it. offers extra credit

One of the best professors in the Sociology department; my absolute favorite. Everything is so clearly outlined and organized. He makes taking his classes stress free. You'll have a health amount of reading to do, but the way the course is laid out makes it seem easy.

He gives interesting lectures and gives out online test so you can use your notes. Class is not required but he did give out wacky questions like What color is it with answers like red on the test as a hat up to those to attended class and got that extra portion. Yes, there are some movies and books required but the test on them were easy.

He was a great teacher. He does lecture 24/7, but he is very easy to understand. He is one of the best teachers in the Sociology department. Taking his classes are most definitely stress-free. He makes it easy to learn.

This is the first class I have had with him that is not in sociology but still the same outline as them. All material is online, quizzes, papers, discussions. He is very clear on instructions for all of his classes, in almost 3 years at CSU I have took 7 classes with him and he does not disappoint in any of them. Best teacher you could have.

I love this professor. I originally started as a marketing major and took general sociology just to fulfill the requirements, the first day of his class I knew I would love this professor. He's very chill and knowledgable in the field. I actually ended up changing my major because he inspired me that much in his classes.

Did not expect to enjoy this class as much as I did, very knowledgeable and truly cares about his students and is passionate.

all grades are (unlocked) online quizzes that you need to buy the textbook (that he co-authored) in order to access, which kind of sucks. regardless, it's an incredibly easy class. you don't need to show up to class but he does offer extra credit to those that do. he's obviously very worldly and is a very engaging storyteller.

Dr. Newtson loves his job. You can tell he has a passion for what he does, and his lectures were all so engaging. The one downside to his class is you have to pay 100+ for one of his online textbooks. You can't use a free online substitute because the tests are online in the textbook. Read and participate and you will succeed.

His class was a bit hard but would crack some jokes or funny memories so we could understand I did fall behind a bit with the quizzes I'd take his class again because he's sweet but the work no no no

Professor Newtson is an engaging lecturer with a passion for the subject. The class does require purchasing the textbook he co-authored, but the online quizzes and resources make it manageable. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for my study prep.
